Preparations For a Body That Will Accept Anything
At the 3-story leather bar, I was took with the passing memory of the woman at the suburban street art fair who sold prints of her digital collages which mostly layered closeups of leaves with washed out details of a shiny face or medium shot of a nude body, turned away.  “These are all digital collages made with my original images” she explained.  A lily pad leaf with holes and computerized discoloration was placed over the muscled ass and lower back of a blonde man with his profile clipped in atmospheric glow filters.  I completed the perimeter of her booth, which stood out from the woodworking/practical crafts and cityscape photos on wraparound canvas that dominate these kinds of events. In her space, a nymph-like quality and color palette you might associate with the lives of nymphs predominated, communicating the highest rigor of a paganistic fashion shoot.  She turned to a woman approaching her booth and said “these are all digital collages made with my original images.”
The 3-story leather bar had its own approach to nature.  Importantly, it was named after an animal, and the animal most critical to the identity of the United States.  Conventional urinals were replaced with a long trough, bringing to mind rustic farm life and the day to day experience of domesticated animals.  High on the priority list of the men filling the space was the task of infinite looking around.  Evaluating a face and body in a swarm of people and occasionally speaking to the face and body evaluated.  This was prime nature: silent looking, but not silent in fact as usually a mouth accentuated the other direction of an eye.  A man approached me leading with his lit phone, “has anyone ever told you you look like him?,” the image of a famous and often arrested young actor on his screen.  “Yes, a few times.”  Being spoken to is obviously less interesting than silent looking in a place like this.  Humans enjoy staring at animals, at vistas, at trees, I won’t accept they abuse with curiosity alone, ahahaha, nature’s voyeur, “I’m gay” I thought, as an older man attempted to place his hand in my pee stream before it reached the piss trough.  Our eyes didn’t meet before I said “no” in the tone of disciplining a pet and jerked my cock away.  I did not want his hand in my pee stream and did not even give myself a chance to think about it.
When I was able to observe it, I observed that my neighbor Rob went out a lot.  I usually preferred to stay in and experienced going out by not moving and then by watching people move for me.  Some part-memorized quote on the longevity of the action movie guided this habit of mine, that action movies remain popular because they convince a viewer’s mind that they themselves are catapulting their bodies then holding a gun sideways, punching a face that deserves it until its new form is noticeable, screaming at an approaching animal villain or rock.  The action movie takes our bodies back to a primeval routine of violent exercise and the bodies react by pretending we did something crucial. My experience of watching men reveal both their well-exercised and freely ignored bodies through a sexual broadcast was equivalent to being in the same room as a TV showing the poorly received 9th season of a popular police drama watched by a cousin I hadn’t seen in 6 years, its audio annihilating the interesting chirps of two sparrows outside the window, that I turn and look at directly only once before I decide it’s time to leave the room.  But in some cases such broadcasts were enough surreptitious movement for my body to feel a moment free from the control of my memory and mind. I noticed Rob coming back at various times: 2:33, 1:02, 1:35, 4:21, always in the AM, 1:56, 3:22, 3:06, 5:10, 2:09.  The men coughed, rotated, considered viewers “weak little faggots who need my cock,” 3:46, 12:47, some laid on their sides for several hours, shirtless but not totally sexual in their presentation, some kinda hesitation in their eyes as if testing the world to see if the world thought them attractive.  I felt shanked by what I interpreted as hints of stapled longing in their faces, all of my senses indicated that I was living in the Koyaanisqatsi of porn.  Keeping secrets in the era of social media is an aggressive method of remaining unshared. Yet the spills from certain years stay sticky and even sometimes find a way to tower over me.  Until they are presented to other people, the gore associated with those lost frenzies remains uncleared, yes, freedom fries mist in freezers past like Chrysippus' ass, who made him laugh to death, mhmm.
Since there had to be an afterimage to the disappearance of an old life, it had to be this: relaxed by the hands off finesse of fate, I lazily controlled myself to decide there wasn’t any other choice but fate.  Always available to the world was my face, to just hide it with a mask or veil would only bring more charged glances or wild guesses.  To be conceived of as sexy was blood-curdling.  I looked up the plastic surgeon with the lowest cumulative online rating, it was Gabe Jenkins and I called the office.  After hearing a high octave off-phone grunt, a voice said
“Dr Jenkins office?”
“Hi do you” I experienced a brisk intake, “Do you do all kinds of” here I laughed like I was trying to encourage someone I thought of as insecure after they made a difficult-to-react-to joke during a conversation “plastic surgery?”
“Yes we offer a number of options,” they responded without interest.
My lack of response gave the woman some go ahead to list the procedures, “breast enhancement, fillers, nose reconstruction, face lift, buttocks enhancement, some men like the calf implants, pec implants, jaw reshaping.  What are you looking for exactly?”
“I have some — a few ideas.  I” I looked at a long strand of black hair that hung from the stationary ceiling fan and was not mine “want to…look like — is it possible to make my face look older? I specifically would like forehead lines and crow’s feet.  And if there is a way to get my neck to sag lower than it is now that would be great. I am 27, I would like to look at least 78 if possible, hello?”
The voice had interest in it, “please don’t call here again if you are going to waste our time.”
“I am being very serious.  I would like plastic surgery to look older,” and there was silence.
I considered what I could say to make it real. “Please, I would like the procedures done as soon as possible, there is a big gala I will be attending in Singapore next month” but I fear-laughed and the woman exited.
I had no thoughts to live for, and then suddenly in a breakthrough moment I discovered that, after many many months, I had a thought: I should slowly begin to get plastic surgery to look older.  Now I needed money to make this happen.  Because then my disappearance would appear more accurate.  With the jowls of a 92 yr old man I would feel liberated.  But that wasn’t enough — I wanted more than anything to reproduce the appearance of a man well over 100.  In fact my thought revealed to me that I was a futurist because I would only settle for looking as old as someone whose life expectancy extended to at least 173.  I wanted to be old in a way no one had yet even imagined.  This would involve a lot of planning, sketching, file-saving and interviewing, and would likely be the type of initiative that lasts an entire life, and I would start with forehead lines.  An ease-in for the body and for the eyes of those that recognized me, and achievable with a budget eyebrow pencil for now.  Keeping costs down was a second thought that entered exactly behind the first thought that appeared after many months.  The eyebrow pencil could also be used for crow’s feet, frown lines, liver spots; but the application of frail sag on my neck, the indistinct recognition of the world suggested by the droop of eyes, the tint play of bald spots under white hair that is shiny and limp, the lowered vocal octave and general bodily slackening were all protruding costs. If I could not formulate, participate in or witness a revolution then I would elect to suffer a much more minor revolution that you might try to call a celebrolution.  As, though the actions and voices that built up the center of what we celebrate as a ‘political climate’ had shifted in an obvious external pivot towards a ‘something totally else,’ it still stood despite the panic that the country needed to focus on the opinions and physical movements of celebrities, and actually not ‘despite’ but ‘because of.’  And plastic surgery was often used by celebrities to command and maintain the public’s focus by recreating a version of themselves they believed responsible for their entry point into wealth and unhinged visibility. Since I was not known for anything and in fact could even be summarized as a loser or more accurately lost, and that I could barely string a sentence together and sometimes ate peanut butter sandwiches and then looked at my hands to discover I had actually eaten an entire pen — this meant my use of plastic surgery could be a revolution in my opportunities. That is, the opportunities that trickle down from achieving grotesque notoriety.  A celebrolution to solve a chunky lil personal puzzle.
I knew the lines in my palms very well, and so I looked forward to the inevitable submission of lines all over my face because I wanted to know those lines just as well.  I wanted to know them as well as I knew the tone of no worries found in the whoosh sound effect that separates two segments of an entertainment news TV show.  It became a sound I carried with me everywhere, I’ve looked at birds fly past me and heard the sound, communicating that something is leaving.  It gave me a short leak of light, in a moment, and then I could not wait to see what came next.  It was a sound I would need as a score for the before/after of my first forehead-aging and chest droop surgery.  I can definitely say that I’ve had a bird fly past me before.  I simply wanted more free time to formulate a plan for my future appearances, it filled my thoughts all day long. Monetarily I was forsaken, choked out and in need of unbound frondescence.  I never stopped thinking I had some level of luck, I had two lamps, but then there was the job which was just about all I could handle, and, full-time-as-part-time to its core, it tossed me about, took time away from my obsessions, and so I repressed and regularly said ‘yes’ to survive.  At work there was Rachel, who had been entranced by Tom Hiddleston and who first introduced the word ‘clopening’ to me, and Gifford, whose name I could not disassociate from Gabrielle Giffords, and Steven, whose quick rescuing reaction to an elderly customer’s near dive over an uninhibited bag of packing peanuts resulted in the customer’s maximum level of comfort and safety, considering the stakes.  That lack of hesitation in making a decision, and in making the right decision, the most helpful and societally selfless decision, caused me to immediately respect Steven.  So when he found the time to comment on something to me, I tried very hard to engage.  As he explained to me during a lunch break, “The USA does not exist. The White House does not exist. They are using holograms to deceive everyone. God destroyed Earth by fire. And these demon parasites knew it and fled and hid from God and God’s army. Well, they lost. God rules and is in control. Stop watching media. They are lying to everyone. The media all sold their soul to Illuminati demons and are no more. There is nothing more than demons and clones using holograms to run deception. Better wake up. The Heavenly Bodies are right above your head.”  And then he would laugh like he didn’t care if it was true.

Amazing Instagram Promotion Tactics You Can Use To Get Real Results
Hey there folks, today we are going to talk about your much-loved Instagram. Popularly known as Insta this website uploads keeps and shares the photos and information of your loved ones. Beautiful, as it looks, Instagram has several prearranged efforts behind its marketing strategy. It is actually a domicile for Business خرید فالوور اینستاگرام.
We all understand that a smooth social network needs value-added services and just as Rome was not built in a day; Instagram too improvised and made new and important changes in a specific period. It made the network so famous that the year 2017 witnessed a whopping 600 million of users (monthly) and daily users exceeding over 400 million. In the past few months, another 2--million insta lovers was added making a remarkable progress in its publicity.
It was successful in dethroning the ever-popular face-book who ruled the search engines since 2004. Its level of engagement is 52 times more than F.B. and 127 times higher than Twitter. Instagram made striking changes last year and it attracted the huge attention of aspiring and ruling business populace who made millions by advertising their products on this website.
I decided to find its intellectual aspect along with entertainment so four months ago, I plunged into its depth and discovered a method to break Insta's algorithm and spread virally to have potential followers. I carried out the process and found that I had gained 5k followers around 6 days. It was very convincing.
Okay so now we are down to Business.
Instagram is a great step to advertise and explode your business into million. There are carousel ads, photo ads and video ads that can open up your business areas and capture a precise audience to promote the product.
CAROUSEL ADS: Just like the photo ads, the carousel feature shows multiple pictures a user can leaf through.
VIDEO ADS: -- With patronized label on top, this feature looks like a beautiful video post that can instantly grab a users attention.
PHOTO ADS:- With the advice of learning more button on the top of the post this feature is a regular photo post that can visually appeal the audience and make them see your product in detail.
A HASHTAG BUSINESS. ##
By means of hashtags your business or brand promotion would create miracles for your profit margin Cool impressive and relevant hashtags will not only popularise your profile but also expand the promotions across the virtual geographical boundaries. Take for example this logo of your services #FitnessAndTraining this works as a hashtag, but #Fitness&Training does not. Users can search for hashtags and if they find it relevant, they click on it and browse for few moments. Therefore, it is mandatory that you use effective hashtags to be an eye candy for users.
Real and non-filtered pictures and selfies grab the highest attention from the virtual crowd. If you are a newbie or an aspiring entrepreneur, then look at the well-established products and famous personal bloggers from your industry and develop the idea for your brand. It would give you a clear idea of using a sound method for hashtag.
Remember, using more than 30 hashtags for your brand can create confusion for the customers. They should be unique, creative artistic and fewer in numbers. It will help you to grab genuine people who would not just interact but would buy or promote your product.
BACKSTAGE PROCESS FOR BRAND EMPOWERMENT:
A selfie video about your product would turn heads. It is behind the scene process, where you ask your audience about your services, your food items, or the post pictures of your most popular product. Create a demo video of the machinery, if it is connected with automobile field or show the exquisite restaurant, kitchen, or saloon whatever you are running. Create a shout-out video, post it, and see how amazing your feedbacks are.
Employees- The Backbone
Personalize your brand with your people. Knowing the most personal values and secrets would build an aura of trust in their minds. Include a video or collage of your employees who work earnestly to make you shine through the platform. Let them know your organisation is not just a place to work but also a fun-filled place to discover your hidden abilities.
Mirror Your Brand Through Handles.
Putting an instant handle and customized hashtags on your services and products would urge your customers to tag you whenever they share something from your enterprise. It can be a product, a service, or a tourist place where you take people to their destinations. It is beneficial for you and other users who would want to know about you and can find you easily
Being a leader of your brand, you must also be responsible to comment like and mention the names of the customers who mirror your brand by giving positive feedbacks.
Exclusive Deals & Coupons
Excite your customers by posting exclusive discount offers and coupon codes as an incentive of following you. You can share an image or create a coupon code under the item that they are to buy. Other way is you can generate an alternative of asking them to follow you if they wish to buy. It would make them feel embellished and important. Next time you would see their friends of friends and relatives buying the same thing and making positive marks on your business.

Anotha One (List of Activities that are C19 Safe!)
I can count on both hands, and some toes, the number of COVID19 emails and articles I’ve seen talking about all the things to do during our current global situation. Their lists (yes, from the marketing people) have been:
- subscribe to this new service ($$$)
- shop our online sale! ($$$)
- sign up for this service to read articles for “free” ($$$)
And I was pretty disappointed by most of the emails I was reading...but there were a few that warmed my heart a little.
- free delivery and no service fee when you order from local restaurants
- all proceeds of ____ sale are going toward helping homeless or those in poverty receive the supplies that are currently unavailable to them
and so on, and so forth. These are the companies and groups that I was happy to see in my inbox, knowing that someone was doing something to help the world.
But, we’re human, and we can only do so much for our community and our global family. That’s just reality. And that’s okay!! If you spend the whole time giving, and no time taking care of yourself, then you’ll have nothing left to give.
So, with that in mind: here are some ideas for social distancing and quarantine activities!
At Home Activities:
- Photography! The majority of us have a smart phone and it’s got one (or two, shoutout 11 pro peeps) cameras on it — use that sucker!! Take silly photos with your family (fuzzy or otherwise), snap pics of your plants or collections of things, or even take photos of random stuff in your house (I know you’re bored enough to).
- Editing these photos is also a good pastime, with lots of free apps on smartphones, and online editing software like PicMonkey and similar — have fun playing with filters and stickers and all kinds of creative adjustments
- Online, Virtual Tours! This is such a cool resource that has been taking root in the last few years as accessibility and outreach have been gaining prominence! Many museums and national parks have posted online tours (similar to Google Street View) of their amazing spaces for online viewers around to globe to interact with. Get out there (online), and explore some amazing works of art and nature, alone or with the whole family through a TV!
- Share the love online and talk about the new things you’re discovering to encourage others to take advantage of these great online-passes to some of the worlds best views (on walls or outdoors).
- Read - yep, the easy one. Whether its new blogs from people online, the book that’s collecting dust on your “to read” shelf, or something like Audible where you can listen to a book and still get something else done - feed your brain!
- A good follow-up to reading is writing! Head online for good writing prompts, or even silly games where you can write a story with the help of the whole family, sentence by sentence!
- Online Concerts! Many artists are doing online tours, and you can enjoy some “live”music from the comfort of your own couch!
- I personally love Tessa Violet, and she has created her “Something to Look Forward To” Tour, where she plays her music, and has dance breaks to engage her audience and take polls of what song she should play next
- ReThink a Space: this one’s a little more broad, but if you have an area of your home or outdoor space that feels as stale as the air you’re breathing while staying inside all the time, REDO IT! Now is the time to start that obnoxious project that takes too long! Some of the most obvious spots are:
- Bedroom/bedroom closet - change out winter for spring!
- Guest room closets (because who knows what’s lost in there)
- Office spaces/playrooms (equally busy, equally disorganized!)
- Bookshelves/display areas
- Crafting: now, I know we can’t all run out to a Michelle’s or a Hobby Lobby, but I can almost guarantee that most of us have some form of markers/pens, and maybe a printer (but if not, have faith!)
- Checkout online tutorials for drawing or calligraphy, and get those hands moving! There are plenty of studies about how calming coloring is, and stimulating the brain with simple things like learning calligraphy are perfect for indoor or outdoor activities solo, or with family
- Pictionary! Or the like. There are online prompts if you don’t have the physical game in your house, and websites like Jackbox have online versions so you can play with your friends, without being in the same room!
- Collaging/crafting with outdoor objects: take a hint from the children that keep wanting to bring home spikey balls or a pretty leaf! Sometimes those objects are silly but can create a fun craft! Using some thread or string, and a stick or two from outside, make a hanging wall decor piece or mobile with the things you are collecting on your walks!
- Video games!! Although it’s not an option for everyone, video games are a great time to have some competitive fun between members of the household, and also help to connect online with other friends who are also playing the game
- Steam and Origin are the two main gaming platforms I know of, and The Sims, and other games, are on sale right now to help offer entertainment and connect people digitally!
- Cleaning, which I’m sure we’ve all done a bit of at this point (not judging if you haven’t but here’s your list of ideas!)
- Starting from top to bottom, now is a great time to get that deep “Spring Clean” that everyone talks about this time of year! Dust of the tops of things that you forget about, like picture frames or door frames, and go down from there, wiping down surfaces, cleaning that gross space between your window pane and the screen (it’s disgusting but if the windows are open, you get to breath all that funk), and continue on to dusting baseboards and sweeping/vacuuming/mopping floors
- And disclaimer: I have not done all these things, but I’m still on the “Rethink a Space” part, so there’s stuff all over the things I want to clean...
- Don’t forget to Clorox those popular surfaces we forget about, like light switches, cabinet knobs/handles, and the power buttons for things like a Keurig or other small tech
- write snail mail for family and friends you’re unable to see at the moment! Yeah, technology exists, but there is always something special about hand-writing some fun messages to send to your loved ones!
- If you think ahead, you can make some fun art, and send that along with your letters, as a bit of cheer to spread along to others!
- Find something to research: whether it’s how video games are made, how to grow new plants, the sound in space, or what that cool movie you just watched mentioned! There’s a million resources online, and even in your local library (using Libby, an online library source for e-books, and more!
- Checkout online resources for your everyday habits: gym or yoga studio’s facebook or YouTube, university resources for free classes/access to databases, educational resources for children (often found on library sites)
You may notice that cooking is missing from this list. I realize that grocery shopping is difficult at this time, so I’ve tried to think of ideas that involve resources you already have in your homes/yards. If cooking is your thing, or you’d like to take it up during this time, please, do so!! It’s such a great way to feed your brain and your body at the same time! Checkout online channels like “Binging with Babish” and other food related YouTubers or Bloggers to find new recipes or content. If you need to go out and grocery shop, just remember to be courteous of other’s and take hand sanitizer or Clorox mini-wipes to get those surfaces like cart handles and self-checkout/checkout screens and surfaces.
My brain is tapped out for ideas at this point, as I’m mainly doing the things mentioned above because they fit with my personal lifestyle and interested, but if you guys have thought of or done some things that might interest others, please list them below!! And those with kids: PLEASE, link a Pinterest board of ideas, educational (and FUN) websites you’ve found, or even just some good games/crafts/activities you’ve been trying out! I heard a coworker talking about a scavenger hunt they created that involves the kids texting/collaborating online to complete the outdoor hunt!
Get creative, do the most mundane thing in a new way, and hang in there! And if anyone wants a FT date, or more help researching things, please, let me know! I’m happy to dive deeper or even chat in general to help alleviate some of the adjustments and isolations going on right now - please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Tag Game
Tag Game
I was tagged by @clownfuckery
Tag people you’d like to know!!!
Height: 5,5″
Eyes: Green/blue
Hair: Naturally blond but right now I am a red head. Naturally wavy and right now it goes a little past my shoulders.
Body: Normal boarding on over weight. I still haven’t got back by before baby body. Baby is 4 now.
Personality:
I’m a pretty outgoing person. I like talking to strange people, and in my line of work you kind of have to. But don’t get me wrong, I am not a social butterfly I love to hide away from everyone. A lot of people are not quite sure what to make of me when we meet. I have been told I am strange, or odd, or eccentric. I simply say “No, I am just a well rounded geek”
Ability:
I have life experience. I went to collage twice. First time as a law clerk, I am not good at this. I got anxiety from working in the field so bad that for two years after a quit I would not answer a ringing phone. I did retail work, enough said. I worked in craft and food services at a university for a number of years where I picked up lots and lots if cool skills. That job and the students I met led me to my current career. I am a PSW (second time in college) and for the majority of it, I love it! Now I got some medical skills!
Hobbies:
I am a gamer, I love to write stories…when I get time. I read lots of fiction and science fiction. I watch movies, Netflix, occasionally TV. For a While when my son was still watching a lot of tree house my hubby and I would make up the true stories behind the nonsense shows he watched. We are sure that the paw patrol are a gov’t experiment that is being field tested right now by agent Rider. You don’t even want to know the terrifying true that we discovered about Team Umi Zoomi.
Experiences:
I was a little girl in an ordinary world, then my dad introduced me to Star Trek Next Gen and it was all down hill from there.
I knew I was smart when I was little but when everyone in your 3rd grade class tells you to stop using such big words you tend to try and be average.
I was bullied for most of my public school career. High school was the first time I found actual friends. But High school was also where I met FanFiction.
I had a few boyfriends in my early twenties. The last guy I dated I also ended up marrying. I knew he was a keeper because the first time we had sex I came! That’s big, because I usually can’t when I am with someone new. Yes ladies and gents I was a faker.
I found out I was pregnant on new years eve a few years ago. Thank goodness it was early in the morning so no drinky drink for me. I had to wait for Hubby to call me then I told him to sit down. once he was I told him. He said thank you for making me sit.
I Had a baby! that was something.I am told not to wait around so long if I have another otherwise I will give birth the parking lot.
I didn’t instantly bond with my baby. That took a couple of weeks. I mean they put him in my arms and the first thing a say is. “Well, I guess I am your mom now?” I felt like I was baby sitting.
My life:
It’s gotten so much better over the years. I am much happier in in some ways then I was in my younger years. I some times wish It was just my hubby and me again. And sometimes I wish it was just me again. But when I look at my life now I am very happy. I have a nerdy hubby who doesn’t care that I run off and write fanfiction before work. We are bringing up are kid in the same nerdy ass traditions that we were. I can hear them down stairs now playing Mario together.

15 tips for beautiful candid portraits that stand out
12 women, all wearing hats, hair blowing in the wind. 12 explorers venturing into the depths of an ice cave. 12 hands, each holding a maple leaf. These are just three of the collages you’ll find on Insta Repeat, an Instagram account run by an anonymous filmmaker.
The premise is simple: the @insta_repeat feed includes screenshots of photos pulled from a huge variety of accounts. Once they’re organized in a grid, they serve to highlight the, sometimes, crushing homogeneity of the social platform and modern media in general. The account currently has well over 300K followers.
At a time when it feels everyone wants to look the same, there’s another movement brewing. A rising generation of photographers is calling for diversity and authenticity. When it comes to candid portraits, individuality is everything. Here’s how to get the most out of your shoot.
The Dos
Stay active. The best way to get people to “forget” about the camera is to photograph them in the middle of an activity. Observe your subjects at work, or plan to do something you know they love, whether it’s swimming in a local lake or playing a game of pool.
Take photos back-to-back. Often, the most interesting facial expressions are the ones we don’t anticipate. Turn on your camera’s burst mode to capture some of those in-between moments you didn’t see coming. You could surprise yourself and your subject.
Incorporate the environment. The setting itself can reveal as much about a person as their facial expression. Photographing your subjects on their own turf does two things. First, it helps put them at ease, resulting in natural pictures. Second, it gives you the opportunity to include the things that help define them: a favorite room, an old bookshelf, or in this case, a fun selection of pool floats.
Master available light. There’s nothing like a bright flash to interrupt a quiet, introspective moment. Artificial light can be a wonderful tool, but regardless of the equipment you choose, you need to understand how natural light works.
For soft, warm light, aim for the golden hours around sunrise and sunset, or choose twilight if you prefer those cooler tones. You can also incorporate street lights and ambient lights. The American photojournalist W. Eugene Smith famously said, “Available light is any damn light that is available.” Use all of it!
Take a risk. Portraits often stand out because they have one extraordinary element. Spend time with your subject to discover what that detail will be. Maybe it’s a tapestry of freckles, a one-of-a-kind birthmark, or even a distinctive scar. Perhaps it’s a melancholy expression or a faraway glance. You can also create these elements yourself by introducing various types of jewelry, makeup, or wardrobe. Use light and shadow to illuminate the face in unexpected ways.
Engage. While the fly-on-the-wall approach is appropriate in some situations, it’s not always possible to fade into the background. Talk to your subject about their lives and experiences and share some of your own stories too.
Empathize. A well-known artist once told us that he never photographs strangers. Every person he photographs is a friend, even if he’s just met them on the street and never sees them again. The best portraits are unique, but they’re also universal. Find common ground with your subject, and that connection will shine through in the photos.
Take a portrait every day. You won’t love every photo you take, but that’s not the point. The goal of this simple assignment is to get comfortable photographing people. Start with your family and friends. The French photographer Nadar made some of his greatest portraits while working with those closest to him. “The portrait I do best is of the person I know best,” he once said.
The easiest way to get over shyness is to approach as many people as possible. The more you shoot, the better you’ll get at reading expressions and spotting those unforgettable moments. Self-portraits count too, so use that shutter release, self-timer, or mirror to your advantage.
The Don’ts
Don’t over-direct. Telling someone to pose or smile usually results in an unrealistic, canned photo. Instead, give your subjects room to express themselves without any pressure. Keep the atmosphere light and spontaneous, and be ready to click that shutter at the right time.
Don’t mess with your Setting. Fiddling with your camera is a surefire way to bring your subject out of the moment and call attention to yourself. Get to know your camera well enough that you can adjust your Settings without thinking about it. Practice at home first if you need to. If you anticipate needing different lenses, consider bringing multiple bodies so you don’t need to switch them.
Avoid checking the screen on the back of your camera. Constantly looking at your LCD is just as bad as taking forever to fix your Settings. Portraiture is about the relationship between the photographer and the subject. A camera is just a tool, and it doesn’t deserve more attention than your model.
You can look at the photos later—use the time you have with your subject to focus on building your connection. You don’t want to miss the perfect photo because you’re staring at the last one you took! If you find that you can’t stop yourself from automatically checking the LCD, try using (or renting) a film camera for a few days to train yourself out of it.
Don’t weigh yourself down. Keeping your gear minimal will help you stay light on your toes. If a sunbeam appears during an outdoor shoot, you’ll need to be mobile and adjust your position. You’ll also want to move your subject around in order to capture the different ways the light hits their face, and dealing with a heavy camera and tripod will only slow you down.
Plus, too much gear can be distracting for any model. Working with a small camera, even if it’s your phone or a point-and-shoot, is less intrusive, especially when it comes to capturing those unplanned moments.
Avoid giving everything away. Great portraits have an air of mystery. They inspire curiosity and make us ask questions. Reveal some details and clues to your subject’s personality, but don’t be afraid to hold something back.
Don’t go crazy with the edits. Often, it’s the so-called “flaws” or “blemishes” that end up telling a person’s story. Avoid heavy retouching, and stay true to the subject.
Don’t be disrespectful. Great portraits can be complicated and even painful, but they’re never cruel. Taking a photo of someone else is a privilege. Represent them with integrity.
Never leave your camera at home. Opportunities for portraits are everywhere. You might find an interesting character on the way to the grocery store or while waiting at a salon, so keep your camera with you at all times.
Embrace the truly candid moments. If you’ve arranged a more formal photoshoot, don’t forget those “outtake” moments. Photograph your subject during breaks and in-between shots. While you’re packing up, keep a small camera out of your bag just in case. The best photo of the day could end up being an accident, caught on a whim as you were getting ready to leave.

Learning Through Play: 101 Ways To Keep Young Minds Occupied At Home
Parents, right off the bat, let me say that there is no right way to be feeling about the current situation. Relief, anxiety, excitement, dread are all normal. We’re all figuring this out as we go along and doing the best we can. Virtual high-five!
This is not a homeschooling post per se. This is about the importance of play as learning, and letting our kids play to restore some balance we don’t always manage in our typical over-scheduled lives.
Here’s the good news if you’re stressed about making sure your kids are still learning why they are at home: they are. I recently attended a workshop with a local homeschool coordinator. The biggest thing I took away was a reminder that all play is learning.
Why Kids Need to Play
Play is how kids learn about the world. Theoretical and Applied Playworker Bob Hughes (awesome title!) lists 16 different types of play that are central to physical, mental, emotional, and social development. By manipulating objects and trying things out (“I wonder what will happen if I give the dog a haircut?”), using their imaginations to role play different scenarios, and moving and challenging their bodies, kids play to learn:
How their bodies work
Laws of physics
Laws of nature
How to interact with other people, and the consequences of breaking social norms
How to follow rules, and the consequences of breaking those, too
Play builds neural connections and motor skills. Through play, kids get to act out adulting (as in playing house), tap into their creativity, and discover their passions.
Importance of Play
Play is not optional. There is a reason that it’s Primal Blueprint Law #7 and Mark has written about it frequently here. (I’ll put some links at the bottom.) Yet, we all know that kids don’t play today like they used to for a variety of reasons. If this time at home offers one thing, it’s time for playing. This means getting free play, movement time, social time, music and arts time, and family time—checking a bunch of Primal boxes.
I’m not just talking about the kids, by the way. I’m talking about the adults in your house too. How much do YOU play in your normal life? I’m guessing not enough. A lot of the ideas here are fun for the whole family.
Play to Learn: Indoor and Outdoor Activities for Kids
For obvious reasons, I’m not listing things that involve going to parks or other public places. If you can still go for bike rides or kick the soccer ball around outside, great! You can do these inside or in your yard if you have one. I also didn’t list too many options that might necessitate shopping for materials. Pick the ideas that work for you given the ages of your kids, what stuff you already have at home, and how much space you have.
Before You Begin…
If you’re like us, you have a stash of art supplies, board games, boxes of legos and blocks, and sports equipment stuck on shelves and in closets. Dig it out and take inventory. What do you already have in your home that your kids can play with? Even bigger kids enjoy revisiting things like blocks and playdough, especially when they’re stuck at home.
Creativity Stations
I have a friend who, when her kids were little, would put out a craft or art project every night. When her boys woke up in the morning, it was waiting for them to explore at their leisure. It made for a lot of fun and peaceful mornings in their house. (Yes, she’s a supermom.)
I’m adapting this idea by designating a “creativity station.” Realistically, you might as well call this the “mess station.” Maybe it’s a card table in a corner of the living room, on the deck, or in the garage. I’m just giving up my kitchen table for now. Lay out a bunch of supplies and let them have at it. These stay out for several days at my house, then we clean it up and get out something else. Here are some ideas:
Art labs
Coloring/painting
Supplies: paper, coloring books, crayons, markers, paint, stamps, stickers—whatever you have!
Ideas: Encourage kids to explore textures by using different types of objects as stamps: sponges, cookie cutters, leafs and sticks from the yard, legos, etc. Make footprints with action figures. Keep a bowl on hand that they can put dirty stuff in to wash. Also keep a pile of rags nearby for wiping dirty hands before they touch the wall.
Collage
Supplies: Paper; old magazines, newspapers, circulars, coupon mailers; glue; safety scissors
Ideas: Give kids a theme (e.g., food, their favorite person) or just let them make whatever they want.
Mosaic
Supplies: Construction and tissue paper in different colors; glue; scissors (optional); bowls to keep colored confetti separated (optional)
Ideas: Have kids cut or tear colored paper into small pieces like confetti, then use the pieces to create mosaic art. You can use coloring book pages as a “pattern,” or they can draw their own or make it free-form.
Science lab
Supplies: Plate or baking sheet; plastic table cloth or drop cloth (optional); containers of different sizes for mixing and pouring; water; food coloring; baking soda; pipettes, medicine droppers, etc. (raid the medicine cabinet); measuring spoons; baking soda; vinegar in a spray bottle; dish soap
Ideas: Let kids make “potions” and practice pouring from one container to another. Sprinkle baking soda on a plate, “decorate” with drops of food coloring, then spray with vinegar.
There are a ton of ideas for easy and fun science experiments online, too. Check out this lemon volcano and these 10 experiments you can do with water.
3-D creations
Supplies: Clay, playdough, tape, toothpicks, chopsticks, straws, rubber bands, paper clips, corks, pipe cleaners, anything else you can find around
Ideas: This is fun for free play, or you can challenge your kids to build something specific, like a bridge that will actually hold a small weight.
Make your own playdough recipes here and here. (Yes, these are not Primal recipes!)
Archeological dig
Supplies: Plastic tub with moon sand, kinetic sand, or dirt; small toys (e.g., plastic animals, blocks, marbles, plastic eggs filled with “treasure”); spoons, paint brushes
Ideas: Bury objects for your kids to “excavate.” Have them build ancient ruins.
Make your own moon sand recipes here and here.
Family Time
Family dance party
Let older kids create a custom playlist
Freeze dance: Let someone control the pause button; when the music stops, freeze and hold the position
Minute to win it games (check Pinterest for ideas)
Family book club
Sing-alongs
Card games
Board games
Dice games
Have a “campout” in your backyard. Make a campfire in a fire pit, place a bunch of candles in a circle, or have your kid make a pretend fire out of sticks and paper.
Make a family tree (including genealogy research if you want)
Go on a family vacation without leaving the house! There are so many ways to “travel” online. Here are some ideas to get you started:
Visit the Tembe Elephant Park in South Africa
Watch the Northern Lights live (best viewing hours are 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. EDT.)

Touch boxes: same as above, but you have to reach in and feel the object without looking
Learn to tie knots
Make a solar oven
Learn how to build a fire (supervised, obviously)
Make a sundial
Learn how to use a compass

Play 20 questions
Play I spy
Make a word chain
Dig out the old point-and-shoot camera and learn to take pictures
Cloud watching
Build towers and knock them down
Yard scavenger hunt
Find something in the house for every letter of the alphabet
Make a yarn spider web
Juggle
Speak pig latin
Learn a new language
Use a magnifying glass to explore objects up close
Freeze little plastic toys, marbles, etc. in bowls of water, then test ways to free the toys most quickly. Try different techniques like rubbing, spraying with warm water, or sprinkling with salt.
Blow bubbles; make your own bubble solution and bubble makers
Bring some flashlights in a dark room or closet and make shadow puppets
Balloon “hockey” with balloons and brooms
In the snow: fill spray bottles with water and food coloring and “paint” the snow
Give the Kids — AND YOURSELF — A Break
The idea isn’t to keep your kids occupied every minute of the day. It’s ok if they complain about being bored every once in a while. If they are like most modern kids, they aren’t used to having a ton of time on their hands. Present them with options, but let them figure it out on their own if they are old enough.
Your house might be messy and chaotic right now. Your kids might be too. They are certainly not immune to the stress and anxiety in the world, especially your older kids. It’s ok if you don’t have a schedule with neat blocks of school time, movement time, snack time, and chore time, and if your kids haven’t gotten out of their pajamas in a week. Your kids are going to be fine no matter what.
This is not nearly an all-inclusive list. What else has your family been doing to have fun while #stayinghome?

5 Social Media Innovations That Are Changing the Retail Industry
By Kaylynn Chong
More than 84 percent of smartphone users in the U.S. go online to look up products before purchasing. E-commerce is slowly taking over the consumer world with sales reaching $394.9 billion in 2016, up nearly 16 percent from the previous year.
To stay on top, it makes sense that go where their audience is—meshing the worlds of retail and social media.
Here are five e-commerce tools that are changing the retail industry.
Bonus: Download a free guide that teaches you how to turn Facebook traffic into sales in four simple steps using Hootsuite.
1. Pinterest Lens
Pinterest Lens is to consumer items as Shazam is to music.
The discovery tool shows you related goods based on whatever your camera points at—food, clothing, furniture, recipes, and more.
For example, if you took a picture of an avocado, the app might give you a guacamole recipe. You can even snap a picture of a shoe and Pinterest Lens will show you similar styles or different outfits to pair them with.
This feature promotes the search and discovery aspect of Pinterest—taking collecting and building Pin boards to another level of searchability. Soon you’ll be able to capture an image of just about anything and Pinterest Lens will be there to offer you a lineup of related content.
2. Like to Know It
Ever wonder where a fashion blogger’s outfit of the day or #ootd came from? Like to Know It helps you find out and offers you the chance to buy the look yourself.
The app is integrated with Instagram, allowing users to take and upload screenshots of clothing they discover in their feeds. From there, Like to Know It users can make purchases directly from the app.

Like to Know It makes it easy for brands, bloggers, and influencers to market clothing and accessories on Instagram.
This also speaks to how more users are consuming media on social media. It makes sense to deliver content to them directly.
3. Instagram’s shoppable photo tags
Instagram has rolled out with a new shopping feature—shoppable tags. In the same way you can tag people, businesses can tag products in their photos.
Instagram has been testing the feature with brands like Kate Spade New York and Warby Parker by adding product information and links to their Instagram posts.
To find out more about a product, users press a “tap to view products” button—revealing prices, description, additional photos, and a “shop now” button to for purchase.
Because so many people use the platform as a form of online window shopping, Instagram took the next logical step and made it possible to make purchases directly from the app.
With this feature, brands can make better use of Instagram for business. Instead using ads and retail landing pages, brands can use Instagram as a discovery, marketing, and sales tool.
The photo-sharing app is also developing a way to measure how many users have tapped to see more product details or clicked on the “shop now” button.
4. Polyvore
Polyvore bills itself as a community style site. The social media platform is best used for creating sets—collages that are made up of products from different online retail stores.
These products—apparel, jewelry, and accessories—can be mixed and matched with Polyvore’s creation tool. When hovered over, details of the product, as well as a link to purchase, will appear.
After you’ve created a set, the collage can be shared on other social media networks and is discoverable by other users through the Polyvore app.
Polyvore has become one of the most effective social platforms for ecommerce sites to drive traffic and sales from. Much of its success comes from the fact that it’s used as a discovery tool by people looking to find new styles and trends. By providing access to different retail brands, Polyvore’s outfit-making tool makes curating, sharing, and searching for fashion items a fun and engaging experience.
5. The MasterPass Facebook Messenger bots
MasterCard and Facebook Messenger have joined forces to give you a new kind of consumer experience—a world where bots not only look up restaurants for you, but help place your food order.
MasterPass is a digital wallet service that lets users complete transactions over Facebook Messenger.
With a few clicks, users can place an order, arrange for pick-up or delivery, and complete payment.
This innovation is an example of the new ways consumers are interacting with businesses. While customers were previously encouraged to download a company’s app to use its services, bots are quicker and easier to use. They also don’t require download or take up space on your smartphone.
Use Hootsuite to monitor all of your social media activity—interactions, engagements, and insights—all in one place. With Hootsuite, you’ll never miss an opportunity to join the conversation. Try it today.
