my personal atsv hobie brown hc is that this boy can build a watch that enables the wearer to travel to any dimension they want to, made entirely out of cobbled up parts he "finds"
but anytime anyone brings up AI or algorithms or social media he pretends to be 100 years old
hobie: what's a bloody "snapchat"? fuckin 'ell those effects are nightmarish, mate
miles, exasperated: hobie, you BUILD TECH that astrophysicists in my dimension can't even replicate. how are filters on a phone trippin you up?
hobie: dunno, everyone's got their strengths n weaknesses, i 'spose... 🙄😒

Okay I'm a little afraid to post this because of how ridiculous the discourse is right now, but I figured I'd ask anyway.
I am NOT looking to discuss politics or current events on this post.
Can anyone recommend to me reputable, fact-based resources (ideally books, articles, or websites) that can help me learn more about Palestinian history and culture? Pretty much everything I have ever learned about the Palestinian people has been in the context of the conflict with Jews and with Israel, and I would really love to know what is unique to their culture and who they are separate and apart from the conflict. When I've gone looking for this myself I've found: (1) lots of materials that define them as one half of a conflict and only discussing them in those terms, (2) lots of materials that function as Zionist propaganda that erases their history, connection to the land, and unique culture, and (3) lots of materials that function as Anti-Zionist propaganda that demonize Israelis and/or totally erase Jewish history and delegitimize Jewish connections to the land.
I just want to know more about, idk, if they have a specific dialect of Arabic, or the history of their beautiful textile art, their naming culture, music trends, or their olive orchard cultivation. Idk, anything that doesn't involve explosives and bloodshed.
I refuse to accept a political narrative that erases the humanity of Palestinians or their neighbors, but I don't know enough about Palestinians as people and want to fix that.

So, based on the thought that Adam has to change jobs every few weeks because Michael explodes whenever someone is even slightly rude to him. That would mean Adam is between jobs more than in jobs, right. Which means his pay isn't going to be good.
So Michael, thinking he's being sneaky, makes sure that they still always have enough money in their account, by multiplying the payments from jobs, or making the bank pay them astronomical amounts of 'interest'. Surely, Adam won't notice. He always glosses over the fact that those amounts are too high.
Joke's oh him, because Adam does notice, and more precisely, he knows that it's Michael. He's not going to call him out though, because while he would never admit it, Adam knows that they wouldn't be able to live comfortably with just the money from his jobs.
Besides, Michael is always glowing with pride when he thinks his master plan is working because Adam once again only expressed mild surprise about the payments they got. It makes Michael feel needed, and who is Adam to deny him that?

When I find it hard to do certain things, I like to pretend I am a neanderthal living in a cave with my clan, and I must do The Thing in order to survive.
So, when I'm doing cardio at the gym, I'm actually chasing and tracking a mammoth, and when I need to cook, well, I'm not cooking on a stove top, I am hurdled over the first fire and watching the fat of our kill drip down onto the burning wood. And when I find it hard to crochet, I pretend that the first winter storm is coming and our clan needs me to make blankets to hurdle under and that I must contribute.
I hope whatever you do to do The Things will help. It is a uniquely personable trait to motivate yourself through pretend and stories. That's what makes this life interesting - that's what makes you feel larger than yourself 💛

Though I personally view him as being more tech-savvy than people take him for, I refuse to think that Jonathan Crane would use social media without being dragged kicking and screaming. Peepaw doesn't know what memes are and refuses to learn. That being said, I think he'd absolutely go nuts with ARGs if he found out they existed and I'd absolutely kill for a storyline involving him and Riddler collabing on the world's most horrifying ARG. Imagine having a grand old time investigating the newest ARG and then getting slammed in the face by Jonny Crane's Happy Funtime Torture Livestream.

This, among other things, explains our boy's weird monologues in Labyrinth Warriors.
He recites the ideals of his martial tradition, beliefs he learned and decided to follow, not something he came up with himself.
Also what he says sounds incredibly similar to the Korean version of the trope, and I wonder if trope savvy players were supposed to recognise that.

I made a baldis basics oc :-) I haven’t decided on a name yet tho. He basically just drinks but bc his body is pretty much run by alcohol, he will throw up when given b-soda. Idk what he will do to the player, probably ask them dumb questions, get all mushy-parental, or hella aggressive out of no where. Oh yeah and he likes the principle bc why not?

everyone on twitter is redesigning the hazbin characters and i have only seen one design that is even close to capturing original alastors bastardity. you fools trying to make him follow design principles when his original design sends the message that he eats principles for breakfast.

A Routine Self-Care / Healing Thing I Do
(And have done for a while. I'm mostly sharing it because I was thinking about it and its relation to other values and thoughts I have and felt like sharing it)
Temporarily denying access to a main coping tool
It sounds counter intuitive, but every so often - either when I want to develop myself more or when I feel like I am stuck for no particular reason and thus feeling as though my life has grown dull and empty - I look at what I spend most of my time doing, particularly to relax, and I say "hey for the next week, we aren't going to do that. Its still there, but that action is off limits" and I choose to limit the usage of whatever I usually spend my time doing
It can cause some stress and so I don't push myself to abide by it 100%, but I try to stick to it when I can, because I often find that when a dominating coping mechanism and time sink is removed, there opens up a vacuum and that vacuum serves to provide a lot of opportunity to introduce new habits, new skills, and see life in a more creative and open manner.
It causes a mild amount of adjustment stress, but so long as the coping mechanism is still there to return to (and you let yourself dabble if it ever gets too stressful with the interest of still minimizing usage) that adjustment stress is a small payment for experiencing new things and being able to expand the things that you can self sooth with.
Not only is this helpful for having diversified coping strategies and introducing healthier habits, but it also practices and helps reinforce to the emotional / trauma brain that sometimes when things that we love and are used to regularly using to sooth aren't available, that we are okay and able to manage with other coping tools - including ones we haven't acquired. It reinforces the idea that even without our familiar coping tools, the world has a lot of things out there that can fill the role as something soothing.
And when you practice the unavailability of preferred coping tools in a space where they aren't ACTUALLY 100% unavailable, you can practice and develop the tolerance to that lack of access in a space where you still have control how much you can tolerate
Then, when life makes it so that something you prefer to cope with is unavailable, you have built up a better relationship with yourself, the world, and coping to feel a little more safe waiting until your preferred coping is available again; because you do this regularly when the access is in your hands. You've survived it multiple times, because its just part of your daily life and practice. Sometimes you don't have what you usually use to meet your needs, and that's okay. There's plenty in the world out there.

I am like 110% certain that James T. Kirk is afraid of aging.
I'm reading the novel the Pandora Principle and while it is Spock and Saavik centric the moments between Kirk and Spock (and the rest) are interesting.
He gets frustrated when he forgets that things that had to be manual have changed since when he first captained the Enterprise. He becomes angry and frustrated at the fact Starfleet Admiralty wants him "back behind a desk"
That is 100% not the behaviour of a man content with living his life and aging with it. He seems to be a bit frustrated with the concept of aging and the world moving forward and trying to string him along.
Cause he's content with captaining the Enterprise for as long as he can but can't since he's getting older and Starfleet only gave him back his ship was cause he was the only solution to a problem.
Anyways! I just realized that Kirk hates the concept of getting older. Also the fact he forgets that modern tech exists and does a fair bit of the work he had to when he was younger is quite funny.

This is niche (maybe) but please share more about ice and mav at Oshkosh!! Do they go yearly? Or just the one time? Are they part of any aviation enthusiast communities???
yes yes yes!!! going to air shows is 100% a date for both of them. i feel like: a couple things:
- they’ve both probably seen the blue angels so many times it’s not super exciting anymore, and until they retire & become private citizens it’s also too big of a Thing for them to go, so they try to go to civilian/private air shows if they can
- one exception is fleet week for obvious rzns. They both probably have to do shit for fleet week on the reg. Ice especially
- i do keep thinking it would be funny for mav to do like a two year tour with the BAs at some point but there wasn’t room for that in the narrative so it’s Schrödinger’s headcanon
- before they retire their schedules are super crazy packed & don’t always line up, even if they request certain dates (like each other’s birthdays, Xmas, thanksgiving, Oshkosh etc) off in advance, so Oshkosh specifically doesn’t become yearly until after they retire. But after they retire they do annually fly in to Oshkosh in their p-51. lots of picnic lunch breaks in Reno/Omaha/Boise etc
- theyve been to the big international air shows (farnborough, Paris, NOT dubai for security/gay people issues, etc) together a couple times when they can swing it. (Me looking for any excuse to send them back to europe on vacation) but before they retire it’s also probably a Thing. So Thing-ness (public & Navy engagement etc) has to be accounted for when they’re planning their trip. they do have a responsibility to rep the Navy as best as they can etc etc
- Thing-ness also has to be accounted for when joining aviation enthusiast groups… after they retire & get married hell yes!!! they probably have a ton of civilian aviation friends & are pretty involved. not before their marriage though. It takes a while for them to come out of the hidden little shell they’ve been living in for thirty years & make friends as a real couple. but they do eventually.
