All these posts about "whenever a friend confides in me I end up talking about myself but it's just because I'm trying to show that I relate + my mental illness!" Well. From someone who also has a mental illness. Usually when a friend tells you something devastating they're not looking to be "related to". They want to release the words they've kept trapped inside and reveal their pain to you. They want their words to reach another person because there's comfort in having another person just KNOW. You don't have to say anything. You can simply take their hand and listen. And maybe say thank you for confiding in me, it took a lot of strength to share that, etc. It's THAT simple. Goddamn.

What's understood, doesn't need to be explained. If you can innerstand something, or hear with your heart... explanations are just words really. Inner knowing of truth

"But if college was free, then people would abuse that and get useless degrees" hell yeah I would! If I could go to college without debt I would make it my job to get a degree in every little thing that interested me. I'd get a doctorate in film studies. I'd have a bachelor's degree for every science I like. I'd try to learn at least 5 languages with varying results. I would learn something "useful" like coding and then follow it up with a ""useless"" degree like art history. I'd be the world record speed run holder for getting every degree possible.
But I can't afford college without going into massive debt, so instead I spent the last 5 years trying to figure out what I am passionate enough about to consider going into debt over, because unfortunately being passionate about everything is extremely expensive to pursue.

If you don't think that Zionist spaces--even and especially liberal uwu smol bean Zionist spaces--are absolutely rife with anti-Arabism and Islamophobia,
please consider that might be because anti-Arabism and Islamophobia have been normalized for you all your life to the point where you don't even notice them.
Please listen to Arabs and Muslims who point it out.

since a ton of people are getting into music as gaeilge because of hozier, can i recommend my fave artist, róisín seoighe? she's a native irish speaker and language ambassador whose lyrics often involve the preservation of irish culture and deep rage against colonization. níl mé marbh ("i'm not dead") makes me cry like a baby and sin do lamh ("reach out") makes me want to burn all of colonialism down. she's also done several collabs with imlé, another EXCELLENT irish language band that does modern-feeling rock and dance music! my fave of their collabs right now is ÉAD ("jealous").
both artists have less than 1,700 monthly listeners on spotify simply because they sing in irish & they deserve more bc their music Really Is Excellent. translations of many songs are google-able & when there Aren't english translations, it's really good practice for people learning irish!

Im really curious how people know about Esperanto. Since its a relatively recent language (from the 1880s), its obviously not going to be as widely spoken in the world as other languages (altho apparently it is the most widely spoken constructed language). I assume most people are introduced to it later in some way?
If u know what Esperanto is, feel free 2 reblog this and say how you learned about it in the tags.

this post reminded me of this ~scenario~ that happens to me and other fat folks quite often! thin folks that are our friends, support fat folks, but haven’t quite had the time or chance or willingness to unlearn fatphobic ideas in relation to themselves. we know you still think of fatness as inherently unhealthy and unattractive, work on it ♥
