Nature makes the best mulch…we give up a lot of diversity in our lawns and gardens when we rake or blow our leaves into piles we pack away in plastic bags. Use nature’s mulch in your gardens and save some cool critters when you do so! #capecod #capecodfall #capecodgardens #mulch #leavetheleaves #nature #getoutside https://www.instagram.com/p/Ck3HAMdul1o/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
Today’s garden treasure: a pair of Isabella tiger moth caterpillars aka wooly bears. They are now all tucked in for hibernation! #woolybear #isabellatigermoth #caterpillar #gardenfriends #gardentreasures #leavetheleaves https://www.instagram.com/p/CiJQK6uuY6s/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
A great campaign from the Xerces Society to remind us not to clean up our yards too much in the fall. Make your yard a haven for local wildlife! Spreading the word on social media using these graphics is super helpful #leavetheleaves
I also gently hugged the new arrivals. #nativeplants #nativeplanttok #bayberry #staghornsumac #carolinaallspice #americancranberry #nannyberry #leavetheleaves #homegrownnationalpark
My garden is done for the season. I'm still outside just doing cleanup but remember to leave the leaves and the seeds too. Your local wildlife will be better for it. #garden #gardenphotography #fallgarden #leavetheleaves
I first encountered the #leavetheleaves hashtag a couple of years ago through the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation, and I’m pleased to see that it–and awareness about fallen leaves’ ecological role–has spread in popularity since then. I’ve tried to share some of the most convincing reasons to not rake or blow your leaves in autumn, from protecting wildlife to saving money to having one less chore to deal with. If your HOA, household members or other entities put pressure on you, at least see if you can just make a leaf pile in the corner of the yard instead of sending all those nutrients to the landfill in plastic yard bags.
Species portrayed: Sugar maple (Acer saccharum), red maple (Acer rubrum), silver maple (Acer sacchinarium), white oak (Quercus alba), fork-tailed bush katydid (Scudderia furcata), rough-skinned newt (Taricha granulosa), golden-mantled ground squirrel (Callospermophilus lateralis), isabella tiger moth (Pyrrharctica isabella)
🍂🍁LEAVE THE LEAVES🍁🍂 Fallen leaves add natural nutrients to your lawn and provide food and shelter for wildlife—especially as nature’s food supply diminishes going into winter. I could go into it in more detail, but that’s basically it! It pays to be lazy and put the rake away! 🙂👍 Only take the leaves into a pile you’re going to jump into! 🍁🍂🐛🐝🦋 #leavetheleaves #protectthepollinators #autumn #fall #october #leaves #autumnleaves #environmentalconservation (at Madison, Wisconsin) https://www.instagram.com/p/B4Cc0-DnW2l/?igshid=8k65jshhpi51
They forgot the most important thing which is that your clover lawn will be covered with bees and other pollinators 🐝 I so love my clover lawn ! #pollinators #organic #sustainable #honeybee #xercessociety #cloverlawn #flowerymeadow #leavetheleaves #pollinatorplants (at The Herban Inn) https://www.instagram.com/p/CbTdrz7ppWd/?utm_medium=tumblr
Leave the leaves until 12 degrees!!! (Celsius) for minimum 3 days. Tidy up your edges, rake them into a single area if you want but let the little dudes time to wake up and get out of the free mulch provided by our arboreal friends. Trees don’t just help us breathe, they also help us eat. . #arborealOverlords #leaveTheLeaves #pollinators #gardening #coexist #jardinage #landscaping #community #newAesthetic #naturalBeauty https://www.instagram.com/p/CaK6wNZPjiN/?utm_medium=tumblr
