ok finally put my hands in the air and sat down to compile the team 7 sensei rin au timeline. subject to change but like. for now here it is ^_^

-obito doesn't push kakashi out of the way of the boulder. MINDNUMBING GUILT FOR THIS CHILD!!!! rin cares about as much as she did when obito was the one to die (not at all lmao)

-important side quest! minato's favorite was kakashi and when he dies he is sad. this sadness makes him sloppy and he ends up getting captured by iwa and killed for all of the war crimes. he deserved it <3

-obito: devistated rin: eh

-with minato and kakashi gone, the team is kind of... less important... obito and rin stop going on missions outside of the village as much and without the spotlight of Politics pushing rin to become a mednin in order to copy previous succesful team setups she starts persuing other interests which.

-rin: yay now i can do what i want!!! i am free to choose any path i want!! i don't have to be a medic if i dont want to be!! i can finally follow my dreams of-

rin: *remembers that she only dislikes being a mednin because she didnt choose it. and doesnt know what she Actually wants to do*

rin: ah

-she waffles around a bit. a lot. she never actually really settles on anything, and just sort of ends up becoming a very well-rounded guy.

-anyways meanwhile in grampy madara's spoopy cave kakashi is having a Bad Time. so is madara. he got like,, the WORST guy ever to enact his plan, on account of kakashi's stupid single-minded loyalty to konoha, and he doesnt even have a sharingan

-convoluted plan to murder obito in a way that hopefully convinces kakashi to help out and gets madara an eyeball so that the plan can actually be fulfilled: activate

-obito gets the three-tails and rin hunts him down because she doesnt have anything better to do and when she finds him he's all "rin we gotta find kushina!! i can't go back to the village yet otherwise explodsions :C" and rin does some quick mental math and decides that that seal is NAUGHT getting fixed.

-rin kills obito there and then in that cave, annoying madara and the kiri ninja and obito if he was not dead. this is a Big Moment for her because she makes a Decision!! she views this as "a sliver of her true self shining through" for a while which.. is complicated but i'll get back to that.

-madara throws a rock at her. or something. and knocks her out so he can at least go scavenge the eyeballs but he only gets one before uchiha search and rescue shows up (obito was NOT disregarded by his clan disregarded uchiha do not get put on the Special Superspeed Pathway to Become Hokage team fight me)

-they see rin, unconscious, and obito, missing an eye and only recently killed, and put two and two together and get five and go "awwww D: girl almost died protecting his body from that mysterious shadow guy who just disappeared. even if she failed her effort means a lot."

-so rin, despite being kind of filler on the politics team, getts thrust into the limelight as a handy-dandy link to mend village relations with the uchiha. "girl who protected her teammate with everything she had..." ect ect. which is funny

-as a sign of good will the uchiha give her obito's remaining eye, which is a surprisingly good fit for her jack of all trades style.

-orochimaru is the last candidate for hokage so danzo n hiruzen start really scrambling to get his public reputation up. what better way to do this than to give him a child? orochimaru is studying sharingan anyways, right? he's not unhappy with it and it once again consolidates political power and anko increased his likability by that much, so like? another student? yeah? yeah?

-anko is REALLY good for rin because she'll suggest something and rin (who still just goes along with a lot of stuff at this point) agrees. and anko is the first person to realize that rin is NOT a sweet polite little girl she is messed up in exciting new ways. orochimaru is a close second.

-anyways orochimaru's poking around with bodies and stuff and the sharingan letting her take techniques and not having a convenient mask to pull on eventually leads rin to the realization that she doesn't HAVE a "true self" girrrll who would have thought....

-meanwhile kakashi is having Cave Time and through a lot of wheedling and no social interaction besides madara kakashi is convinced to do the infinite tsukuyomi For Konoha. a la danzo. (danzo sakumo hiruzen kakashi essay In Progress lol)

-rin, new, healthier self image acquired, goes on to be Very successful. orochimaru becomes the hokage, rin rotates between his private guard and missions, and everything is dandy!! once again danzo keeps his flirting with hiruzen out of the politics and the uchiha massacre doesn't happen cuz Rin tm and stuff is greatttt!!!

-also naruto is born With incident but its. fine. its fine. kushina dies jiriya who is visiting dies to seal kurama in naruto and its like. sad but who cares amiright

-so right as naruto sasuke and sakura are about to graduate, the politics machine starts working, and like. to Consolidate Power rin is the obvious choice for sensei.

-she goes "ughhh fine ok" and does it and like. its fine. its good.

-...until wave happens!!!!! :D

-fun fact! rin does love people! shes just weird about it. and sometimes she doesn't notice.

-she does beat zabuza and haku on their first meeting because she hasn't been depression napping her way through the past two years.

-but it's still a nasty wake up call, yaknow? those kids could have died! and she would have been... sad? like actually sad?

-rin still preforms on occasion, but she's weird about it in different ways now. and she's pretty sure that she actually likes these kids???

-which is weird and novel but eh. whatever. she'll do her best to teach them apparently.

-sasuke becomes a medic and. this is long and i need to wrap this up but i will elaborate on narrative signficance of this later lol because its there

-kakashi finishes collecting tailed beasts much slower because he keeps passing out (rip) but he does get there eventually

-rin is dodging hokage-ship so that she can keep messing around with her kids. yes they are jounin shut up she's not taking care of them they are her BESTIES. (important distiction that isnt even a lie. she is NOT their mom she is NOT their older sister she is the Cool Older lesbian who taught them the tricks of the trade and now they party together. a ten year age gap is not as big as you guys think it is. you can be friends with old people.)

-anyways eventually kakashi comes for naruto. it goes badly because he is perpetually exhausted and team 7 is perpetually hyped and also no one's even gne missingnin. AND his one cool trick gets countered by rin who can do the Same Cool Trick

-oh also he goes by sukea. hehe sometimes fanon is correct.

-any other version of rin would have gone ballastic but this rin scrunches her face and goes "ok so he is kind of a nohara in the same way that i am kind of an uchiha." thats not whats going on but ok i guess

-rin also kills him (now she is two for two) and madara never even got revived and then everyone just kind of. "that was weird"s the whole situation and goes home.

#hmgh i left a lot out but ive been working on this for a while. and explaining how rock lee dying leads to his entire team defecting #would take too long :C #i will do a deep dive on my tenten thoughts another day. add that one to the list boys #anyways important note that while konoha is the most succesful in this world that isnt'. that doesn't mean that its the best one #this isnt a “good” rin au she is honestly still doing horrific things #just in the name of a more concrete village. sigh.#once i figure out how to make it fun and spicy i might make an au of this au where rin anko and orochimaru Overthrow the Shinobi systerm #because if anyone's making it happen its them.#well. whatever. i think im gonna go ttake a nap im so tired. jet lag >:/

Summary:

Being a woman in a man's world isn't easy.

This story is for @spookythevoidsinger, @dawen, @dominaaurum, @greencuttingmat, and @kurakura0-0, all of whom chimed in on my discord server as I was writing it and suggested so many of the ideas which made it into this story.

Truly, it takes a village.

Kurotsuchi creeps into the room, silently thanking all the gods that the daimyo of Hatō no Kuni is arrogant enough not to pay for proper guards. If this monstrosity of a castle was being patrolled by shinobi from Amegakure, this would be a lot trickier.

As it is though, he puts far too much faith in his nobles and their soldiers.

She crawls down the walls, careful to avoid placing even the slightest pressure on the nightingale floor - she doesn't want to give herself away now, not after she spent so much effort getting into a country she has no business being in - and stretches her hand out for the pot which rests in the tokonoma.

An unassuming brown and made out of simple clay, she has trouble imagining that this is one of Kumogakure's greatest treasures, a tool handed down from the Sage of Six Paths himself. But everything her people have been able to discovers says that it's the Kohaku no Jōhei, and she smirks as she lays a hand on it.

Only... it doesn't move.

Is it... stuck?

She grabs it with both hands and yanks, only to find herself tugged in the opposite direction.

"Sorry, but this one's mine." The amused voice is low for a woman, but unmistakably feminine. "Don't you see our symbol on it?"

Been thinking about Poisons Expert Lee and to me the obvious answer is an apprenticeship under Anko but also I rewatched the Lee chuunin exam episodes and he actually harms Gaara really early into the fight? Just after he takes of the weights. Gaara doesn't even injure him back at that point, doesn't go insane, he's just a sand user (to the spectators). Like that'd be actually a kinda disappointing fight? Idk.

Also: Lee is very Lee personality wise in his childhood, pre-Gai flashbacks already. So while Anko apprenticeship would maybe put him in a different direction of ninja insanity, he was already doing 'if I can't do x I will do 1000 y' challenges to himself already as like a 6yo.

Originally I wanted to write a short Anko POV of how she trains him up to and including the Gaara fight but like. Dunno. I lowkey think that Lee would discover mithridatism on his own and just Do It. And that would lead him to using poison as an extra advantage.

Pretty much every gift he gives you is perfection. Even though he's late a lot, he always brings you a small gift to make up for it (flowers, your favorite candy, charms, etc). Also, the moment you get into a new hobby or interest, expect related gifts falling in your lap for the next month. Kakashi wants to encourage your interests, he loves seeing the joy on your face as you experiment and try new things! And don't worry about money, he's doesn't mind spending it if it's on you

Might Guy - All of Them

Come on, he is literally Lee's clone. Of COURSE he's gonna be just as enthusastic with his partner. This man will literally do anything for you, if you need something done fast and perfect, he's your man. And be careful talking about things you show interest in. If you even imply you want that tea set from the store, you are gonna wake up with it on your nightstand. And god is he great at talking you up. Every morning is started with a speech about how amazing you are and how you'll face the day with power and youth together! Guy won't accept any negative comments you make about yourself, either. He shuts that shit down immedietely, and talks to you seriously and genuinely. Guy will always make you feel loved and beautiful, never forget that (don't worry you can't, god this man is loud)

Kurenai Yuhi - Words of Affirmation

Kurenai is incredibly caring and emotionally connected with you. She is a naturally empathetic person and with you it's clear. She always takes into account your personal opinions and desires, and never makes a decision about your relationship without your input. Your emotions mean a lot to her, and she makes it clear. Asuma Sarutobi - Quality Time

He is similar to Shikamaru of being a bit sluggish, just not on the level of his prodigy. Your love life is on the lowdown, but that isn't a bad thing! You like just spending time calmly with him without all the fuss. No pressure inducing grand gestures or giant surprises, with Asuma it's easy and stress free. His favorite way to spend time is just sitting and talking with you, and if you smoke, taking smoke breaks are a definite couple's activity. He likes to tease you by saying you look better than ever, even though you clearly look like you woke up from a 3 year coma. Your pouting and annoyed face always makes him giggle like a kid, it's so cute! Throughout your relationship Hashirama will always find a way to convince you to look on the bright side of life, especially if it has to do with you. No matter how you perceive yourself or your skills, he compliments you with full genuineness. This man loves you so much, just... so much

Tobirama Senju - Words of Affirmation

Unlike his brother, Tobirama is muuuuch more tight lipped. He's stern and sharp with his words, even with you. It was a bit off-putting at first, and you used to wonder if he even liked you. One day it came to a head and you approached him and asked him outright if he hated you. This is one of the few times his composure broke, and he instantly shot the notion down. After a heartfelt conversation, from that day forward you payed more attention and noticed little things about him. You notice that when he talks to you his voice softens ever so slightly and he tries to use less intense wording. Occasionally when he walks by you'll hear a quiet compliment in your ear. He never forgets to thank you for every little that you do. And when you're alone he'll even soften up just a tad and admire your beauty. Minato Namikaze - Acts of Service

Minato is a gentleman through and through. He's gonna treat you like royalty, I'm talking laying his coat over a puddle so you can walk over it (don't worry, you eventually convince him to just let you go around the puddle instead). Obviously he is verbally respectful and sweet, but he really shows off with his usefulness. He loves to do chores with you or cook together and just talk for hours on end. If you're craving a certain food he is ready to take a stroll to the store and get it for you no questions asked. And when you're in public you can bet he's using his reputation to get you guys some special benefits. Every restaurant has a table for you guys set and ready, and store venders give you great prices. Plus NOT A SOUL will even try to bother you. Single

May 10th, Day 2: Reunion/Parting @sandsibweek

Temari and Shikamaru’s wedding isn’t exactly Kankuro’s scene, if he’s being honest. As someone who’s been pathetically single for the past- well, forever- seeing so many happy couples on the dancefloor makes him feel insecure and awkward in a way that he’s never had to experience before.

Then again, he’s happy for his sister, who’s finally found love and happiness after wasting her formative years taking care of him and Gaara. She deserves to have this, so he plasters on a smile and hypes her up for the event, only reflecting on his own feelings when he finds himself sitting alone at the reception.

Most of the tables are grouped in sixes with the assigned seats, three couples to each table. Kankuro sees Naruto and Hinata, Ino and Sai, Choji and Karui, Kakashi and Guy, Anko and Ibiki, Baki and Genma, Kotetsu and Izumo, Hanabi and Konohamaru… It seems like the place is flocked with couples, with Shikamaru and Temari at their own head table, starting to slice the cake.

At Kankuro’s table is pretty much everyone who came without a plus one; himself, Tenten, Gaara, Rock Lee, Sakura, and Kiba. Though Tenten, Sakura, and Rock Lee get along and chat away easily, Kankuro sits there silently, his dark brown eyes flickering between Kiba (who is distracted by Akamaru) and Gaara (who is staring at Lee).

Kankuro holds his head in his hands. The cake is served, and it tastes of strawberries and vanilla that blends well with the white champagne he has sitting in the flute in front of him. Tenten and Sakura stand up and go to chat with Ino and Sai, which is somewhat of a relief. Kankuro isn’t socially awkward by any means, but he prefers his siblings’ company more than anyone else’s, so being almost-alone with Gaara isn’t too bad…

At least until Lee excitedly drags a blushing, stammering Gaara onto the dance floor.

While Akamaru takes a nap on the floor beneath Kiba’s chair, Kankuro and Kiba are left alone. The two men glance at each other, and Kankuro’s heart skips a beat much faster than it should.

Memories of the war flash through his mind. Memories of staying together in the middle of nowhere, covered in dirt and sharing a tent, curious hands roaming bodies and lips roaming lips because ‘why not, we could die soon anyway’. And maybe inexperienced teenagers having sex for the sake of doing it before dying at the hands of the Akatsuki was all they were back then, but Kankuro would be lying if he said his feelings for the Inuzuka hadn’t gone a little deeper back then.

Now, those feelings are resurfacing even though it’s been literal years and Kiba looks much, much different now. The younger man’s brown locks have grown out to just above his shoulders, and he has the beginnings of a sharp beard on his pointed chin. Though the red marking on his face and that familiar look in his narrow obsidian eyes remains the same, he’s different; taller and more muscular, too.

“So, looks like we’re all alone, huh?” Kiba starts, taking the words right out of Kankuro’s mouth. “What a coincidence… Just us two again after all these years.”

“Yeah…” Kankuro mutters, because while he would usually be able to hold conversations with people in a social setting like this, Kiba is wonderful at turning Kankuro’s brain to mush. “What a coincidence.”

Akamaru suddenly stands up and runs off. Kiba is too distracted to command him to stop, so the big white dog rushes through the dancefloor, effectively tripping Gaara, who falls into Lee’s chest. Lee catches him right as Akamaru steals Baki’s cake and steps on Genma’s shoes. The chaos he causes has half the reception room cursing, but when Kankuro looks to see Temari and Shikamaru laughing their asses off and asking the photographer to get pictures of the scene Akamaru is causing, he doesn’t bother telling Kiba to wrangle the cute mutt.

“You still single?” Kiba asks as Akamaru runs back to him, brown nose covered in white frosting and strawberry cake crumbs that he probably shouldn’t have had.

“Uh, yeah,” Kankuro answers with a blush that he hopes is well-hidden by his face paint. Though he’s not at all disappointed that Kiba seems to be on the same page as him, he is surprised at the other man’s straightforwardness. “I haven’t really… Bothered, y’know, since after what we had during the war. How about you?”

Kiba smiles.

“Me, too.”

And suddenly, being one of the few single people at this wedding isn’t as bad as Kankuro thought it was.

“Hey, everyone, it’s time for the bouquet toss!” Temari calls out, much cheerier than usual on her happy day.

Kiba stands up with Akamaru happily trotting up next to him.

“Wanna come with?” Kiba offers and nods his head towards where Temari is standing on a platform with the bouquet of white jasmines in her hands.

“Sure,” Kankuro nods and follows Kiba to the crowd that’s gathered behind Temari.

Then, the bouquet is tossed. It soars past the front of the crowd and past the middle to the back where Kankuro and Kiba are. Kankuro has never cared much for traditions like this, but he does make an attempt at catching it, only to see that Kiba is also reaching for it when Akamaru suddenly jumps up and puts his paws on the Inuzuka’s back. Kiba stumbles and falls forward, still catching the bouquet but about to hit the ground. Kankuro rushes to catch him, only for it to backfire. Kiba falls into his chest and knocks him onto his back. Their faces brush, and their lips are smashed together for the first time in five years.

One of Kankuro’s hands wraps around the bouquet to make sure it doesn’t fall and get crushed in this clusterfuck of shit, but when he opens his eyes, he sees that one; both he and Kiba have caught the bouquet, and two; there’s a circle of all the reception guests made around them, staring, laughing, and talking about what’s just happened.

To make the situation even worse, that knucklehead Naruto is behind them taking pictures and laughing his ass off. Temari rushes over to make sure they’re both okay while Shikamaru and his best man, Choji, snicker at the display over two glasses of champagne.

Kiba jumps up with the bouquet in hand and grabs Kankuro by the arm to pull him up

“I’m so sorry, man, are you okay!?” Kiba asks, then turns to Akamaru before Kankuro can even answer and scolds him. “Akamaru, why would you do that? I can’t believe you!”

Akamaru lets out a noise that sounds like a laugh, or maybe a snort. He lowers his head with a guilty expression.

“I’m fine, but you know, you should really train that dog of yours a little better!” Kankuro chuckles and reaches down to scratch Akamaru’s chin.

To his surprise, Akamaru leans into the touch and licks his hand.

The crowd disperses and slowly starts to leave the reception. Kankuro and Kiba linger behind, going back to their lonely little table. Tenten and Sakura are dancing together, and Lee and Gaara have fucked off to God knows where together. The other couples have either left or are sitting at their own tables. Temari and Shikamaru go around to thank the remaining guests for attending, Temari with an arm over Shikamaru’s shoulder.

“You haven’t danced at all today,” Kiba says, but it’s not true.

“I did, too! Remember when I danced with Temari and Gaara earlier? It was part of the ceremony,” Kankuro explains in reference to the ‘father daughter dance’, which he and Gaara offered to do with Temari in Rasa’s place so she wouldn’t have to cut it out of the ceremony entirely.

They walked her down the aisle, too. Kankuro briefly wonders if their parents’ absence on a day like this is bothering Temari at all, but then he looks over to her and sees her and Shikamaru still beaming at each other.

“Oh, right, but that’s not what I meant,” Kiba says with a dismissive wave. “I meant you haven’t danced since the reception started.”

“Well, no one’s asked me to,” Kankuro shrugs.

“Then I guess I’ll have to bite the bullet and do it myself,” Kiba grins, then stands up and offers Kankuro his hand. “Wanna dance, Kankuro?”

“...Sure, Kiba. For old time’s sake.”

So unfair that we got designs full of scars and marks in the generation that is around Kakashi's age (Ibiki's head covered in thick scars and holes, Kakashi with his eye scar, Obito with half of his face and body ruined, Anko with the cursed mark, even younger Iruka with the nose scar), but then the generation of the Konoha 12 barely got some haircuts.

Kishimoto gave all the body changes to Naruto and Sasuke and forgot to make the rest of them appealing, which wouldn't take much time at all and would contribute to the main plot. Especially by giving the feeling of the Konoha 12 maturing in times of war and bigger conflicts.

Scars tell you there are stories you're not seeing. They talk about battles and experiences, about age and time passing. I want to see the Konoha 12 and all the kids their age with seals on their bodies and scars in visible places, burn marks that didn't heal properly because they were far from a good medic nin, marks left by really powerful beings like that one time Pain destroyed Konoha.

You know how interesting it would be to present an Ino who is all about beauty and yet refuses to get a scar on her cheek healed, because that was the first enemy nin she took out and Asuma told her he was proud of her?

To have Hinata keep the marks of fighting Pain as the memory of her love and devotion and all the sacrifices she's willing to make?

Rock Lee's legs should be covered in scars for the surgery Tsunade performed. He could ask Sakura to cure them, but he doesn't want to. It reminds him he had a second chance. He can't waste it.

Neji's seal on his forehead was interesting, even if we didn't get that much of a resolution. Sasuke and Naruto's lost arms were interesting. Sakura's byakugo, Kiba's face paint.

Those details made the characters come to life.

Why do you think the Sand Siblings have such great designs? They have ink on their faces and messy hairstyles and they are expressive and bold and determined. I want more of that.
