Extraordinary You

Come maratonarsi una serie in 3 giorni.

Mado' Extraordinary You mi ha letteralmente rapita. Sequestrata. Merito di una trama originale, un ottima fotografia, buon cast, eccellenti personaggi quasi tutti, ma soprattutto grazie all'idea di base e come è stata portata su schermo. Un applauso davvero.

La serie parte benissimo, in modo originale, divertente e interessante con gli episodi che scorrono via uno dietro l'altro. Andando avanti con la storia però, per me è leggermente calato: si perde la leggerezza ed il divertimento per lasciare spazio al dramma e alle situazioni serie.

I due protagonisti della storia, che inizialmente mi piacevano molto, mano a mano sono sempre più scesi nel mio personale indice di gradimento trovandomi dunque a fare il tifo e sentirmi emotivamente investita con i personaggi secondari piuttosto che quelli principali.

La storia d'amore parte in modo carino, costruito e romantico. Le loro scene sono super sentimentali, fatte benissimo e senti l'amore a 10 kilometri di distanza. Tuttavia andando avanti con la storia, la loro relazione mi ha un po' annoiata, trovandola ripetitiva, troppo perfetta e smielosa per i miei gusti. Tanto che mi sono concentrata su tutt'altro.

Ma oh, se me la sono maratonata in pochi giorni un motivo c'è: poiché scrivere commenti sensati e lineari non è da me, andrò per punti:

L'idea dell'essere dentro ad un fumetto non è una novità nel panorama televisivo. Ma ho trovato super interessante sia come hanno trattato il concetto di "palcoscenico " e "ombra" sia come i personaggi prendessero coscienza di se stessi, portando poi su schermo, battaglie emotive sulla loro esistenza e identità. E' stato molto piacevole vedere i personaggi, uno ad uno, capire di essere personaggi di un fumetto e vederli relazionarsi con questo. Tutta la parte circa il fumetto, le regole che lo disciplinano, i clichè dei storie romantiche, le bizze dello scrittore... questa è stata forse la parte che mi ha coinvolto di più.

Mi chiedevo per quale motivo lo scrittore avesse fatto un manga così banale. Cioè, la trama è Hana Yori Dango, più o meno. XD Persino i personaggi potevano capire quale scena sarebbe andata sul palcoscenico! Forse la storia del fumetto era così scontata proprio perché non era la parte importante della storia. In tal modo la serie si è concentrata sulla storia degli altri personaggi permettendo di non perdere minutaggio su una trama così ovvia, che era scritta nelle stelle.

Ho amato anche il concetto sull'essere protagonisti della propria storia. Quando si scopre di essere degli extra si può decidere di diventare i primi attori del proprio racconto personale. Gli extra non possono essere i main lead del fumetto...ma possono esserlo della loro storia. E' un bel significato.

Ho rivalutato tantissimo la protagonista del fumetto. La Cenerella che impersonava la classica protagonista femminile da shojo ma che alla fine si rivela una piccola mafiosa badass quanto basta per farsi valere e amare da me. Carinissima anche la sua relazione con Do Hwa, molto naturale e romantica.

Interessante anche il concetto dello stare sul palcoscenico ed essere costretti a recitare una parte che non si vuole. Finché i personaggi non hanno coscienza non c'è problema nello stare sul palco. Ma una volta capito di essere dentro ad un fumetto è frustrante fare e dire cose che non pensi e non vuoi solo perché qualcuno ha deciso così. Credo che la serie abbia reso in modo ottimale questo tema visto che ho percepito davvero tanta frustrazione da parte dei characters consapevoli nelle loro scene sul palcoscenico.

Tornando a Lee Do Hwa è stato uno dei miei personaggi preferiti. Lo scrittore voleva caratterizzarlo come un clichè del second lead bello, gentile, serio, pacato ecc ecc.. ma nella realtà era adorabilmente scemo. Ho amato i suoi dialoghi e la sua personalità divertente e brillante nonché il suo rapporto con la Dan Oh: insieme erano spassosi!

La serie mischia momenti intensi e tristi con scene più divertenti e comiche - soprattutto all'inizio - che spezzano la tensione e alleggeriscono la storia. Ritengo che su questo frangente abbiano fatto un bel lavoro anche se sul finale si perde la spensieratezza e divertimento per affogare in un mare di serietà.

Per quanto riguarda Dan Oh dunque, mi è piaciuta molto inizialmente. Ho adorato la sua personalità vivace e certi suoi commenti irriverenti. Vederla impazzire per la scoperta di essere in un fumetto mi ha fatto morire dalle risate più e più volte. Ho ammirato la sua determinazione e testardaggine nel voler cambiare il proprio destino anche quando le dicevano di non farlo. Ma...ma...ma poi s'innamora. Da quando inizia la sua storia con Haru il suo personaggio mi è lentamente scivolato nella noia poiché sembrava girasse unicamente intorno ad protagonista maschile. Voleva cambiare la sua impostazione per se stessa, per la sua identità, per autodeterminarsi. Ed invece mi è sembrato che alla fine volesse cambiarla solo per stare con Haru. D'altra parte però non mi sento di essere troppo cattiva con lei: è la sua prima cotta, il suo primo amore. E' normale che tutto ad un certo punto. giri attorno a questo.

Chi invece ho avuto difficoltà a mandare giù è stato proprio Haru. Chiariamoci, Haru è perfetto: bello, intelligente, gentile, premuroso, comprensivo, presente, simpatico, romantico...è perfetto. Troppo perfetto per i miei gusti. Il protagonista maschile di questa storia non pare abbia difetti, zone grigie o d'ombra. E per questo, mentre inizialmente mi incuriosiva il suo personaggio, piano piano mi ha stancato.

E questo si è poi riflettuto sulla storia d'amore. Ho provato davvero tanto a farmela piacere ma... nada. Non ho mai sentito il click, l'investimento emotivo. Poiché erano perfetti assieme e grondavano miele fuso non c'è mai stato conflitto, tensione, pepe nella loro storia d'amore. Tanto che i classici impedimenti sono stati tutti esterni alla coppia: perdita di memoria, cancellazione del personaggio ecc ecc.. Io ovviamente sono contenta per Haru e Dan Oh: buon per loro che hanno trovato l'amore! Ma ahimè non credo che vinceranno mai nella mia personale classifica delle coppie preferite.

Chi invece vincerà tutto è probabilmente Baek Kyung. Già l'anno scorso Lee Jae Wook era arrivato ad un passo dal vincere il premio " attore migliore dell'anno". Questa volta punta decisamente alla vittoria grazie ad una recitazione fantastica. Non mentirò: Baek è stato uno dei motivi che mi ha dato la forza di finire la serie. Ad una certa mi sono resa conto che sì, volevo sapere come sarebbe finita la serie...ma ancor di più ero curiosa di vedere quale piega avrebbe preso la sua storia.

La sua caratterizzazione e storia le ho trovate le più interessanti di tutte, così come il suo splendido arco di redenzione nel finale. Ho sofferto parecchio nel rendermi conto che alla fine Baek Kyung sarebbe rimasto da solo - ok ho pianto nelle sue scene finali - più che altro perché come da sottotitolo di questo commento, era diventato il mio personaggio principale. E vedere il "tuo lead" che capisce di aver sbagliato, chiedere scusa, comprendere di essere stato uno stronzo bastardo ed essere arrivato tardi alla realizzazione e affrontare un arco di redenzione ma alla fine non ottenere il lieto fine, ti fa un po' male. Se Baek fosse stato il protagonista di un altra serie probabilmente avrebbe ottenuto di più. Ma non lo è e va bene così. Sono già contenta che abbia avuto il suo riscatto...anche perché ne ha parecchie da farsi perdonare. Non scordo quanto a trattato a merda la sua fidanzata sia sul palcoscenico che nell'ombra! Un vero stronzo! E spero davvero, come gli dice Dan Oh, che alla fine trovi il vero se stesso e sia felice. <3 Tra l'altro adoravo le scene di Dan Oh e Beak Kyung da bambini: erano tenerissimi!

Conclusione: drama da vedere assolutamente anche solo per l'idea dell'essere parte di un manga e contemplare come si muovono i personaggi dentro a esso. A me la storia d'amore non è piaciuta ma magari farà innamorare altre persone che la adoreranno. Quindi consigliato per chi cerca storie d'amore. E poi c'è Lee Jae Wook in tutta la sua gloria...cioè che vuoi di più?!

For some reason this drama got swept under my huge gigantic humongous unwatched list. Im so peeved at myself, I remember wanting to watch it badly then it just got swept under everything. Storyline is basically what you see but so much more, it’s a top tier hilarious kdrama that has a bit of a mystery (it’s sorta obvious) thrown into it. What really makes this special though is the humor and the campiness satire to it. I will put a advisory for those have yet to watch it it can get a bit gruesome sometimes, for example main character, Choi Jin Hyuk, still gorgeous as a zombie by the way, eats raw food especially chicken which can get disgusting. There were times I had to look away and this is someone who loves horror shows, for some reason it just got to me. Nonetheless this series is quirky, cute, and original, it does reminds me a bit of of the western tv series of iZombie which was one of my favorites so maybe that’s why I like it a lot too.

My guess? Young Ki is responsible for the accident and Sung Jun knows about it. Do Joon will eventually be out of the picture and Young Ki is going to get the CEO position in the end, so we will have to wait for the board meeting to see how that will happen.

I am not ready to see the downfall of Jin Yang Cheol. By downfall I mean going from a strong and imposing business man to a frail and weak old man. Nothing wrong with that, it's life and he has serious health issues, but looking at the preview and seeing him showing signs of dementia is truly heartbreaking (LEE SUNG MIN WITH HIS GENIUS ACTING).

I know he is not the best man around but the show really made us actually care for him a bit. All in all he is the antagonist of the show, but not really. He is an emperor who built his empire from scratch and wants someone to understand that. To understand the struggles he went through and what it takes to mantain that empire. Unfortunately, his first son and grandson can't grasp that idea, the second son only wants affection but does not have what it takes to take over, his only daugther is automatically out of the race and his fourth son was practically disowned. However, his youngest grandson does get it and their interactions are getting increasingly precious, even after knowing how ruthless JYC can be.

naur but au where kyung gains awareness after dan oh.

baek kyung gains awareness and has to start dealing with his anger issues and his f'ed up family situation. like, yeah he's an asshole but he's not an ASSHOLE.

and he's still a little mean and a little bitter, but he starts finding joy in the little things and he and dan oh slowly start to become friends who, at first, spite the writer because their roles suck and slowly develop a deeper friendship and!!

kyung slowly starts falling for her but the story doesn't change.

and kyung and dan oh aren't hanging out all the time - he has to deal with do hwa gaining awareness and wanting to hang out all the time w/o their artificial friendship and dan oh is on a MISSION, okay, but kyung just doesn't have the energy to fight one more person, especially a person he can't see. he already has to deal with his father and himself.

but then ! they discover haru.

And kyung is angrier than he's ever been because haru is nice but haru doesn't take his shit. he looks him in his face and tells him not to break the window because it might hurt and fuck that asshole! because why does he care?? no one has ever told him not to do something because it might hurt him. his father would've told him he deserves to be in pain for fucking up the business deal.

so yeah, kyung hates him. especially when he sees dan oh falling for him and it sucks ! it sucks that he never really had a chance with her because he was forced to be a bigger asshole than he actually was BUT THEN.

story story story, yada yada yada, haru and kyung and dan oh end up in a happy trio. two sunshines/two sunshine protectors and one asshole all sitting in a tree happily eating sandwiches :)

Thinking about how Seong-hwa loves: believing in Jun-wan’s decision making when he was in crisis, reassuring Seok-hyung when he wasn’t sure what to feel about his father’s death, “you can just stay still,” running to take care of U-ju when he had a fever, calling her mother post midnight because his temperature wasn’t going down… she knows what people want most and she places it in front of them gently, as if she never did anything in the first place.
