🔸EVER WONDERED WHAT DIFFERS THE STIFF LEG FROM THE ROMANIAN DEADLIFT? - by @breitfit🔸 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 📝 They’re pretty much the same thing some of you might be thinking? Sure they are! As much as front squats are the same thing than back squats. They do share similarities in lifting mechanics such as starting from rack/block height in front of the upper shins and having more (RDL) or less (SDL) bend in the knees. But this is where the similarities already stop. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ➕ In the romanian deadlift the eccentric phase is characterized by the hips being pushed back which is followed by pulling the hips forward which literally pulls the body back into the starting position. The result is a bar path that is very close to the shins. The RDL is therefore mainly a horizontal back and forth movement of the hips (which of course leads to a vertical up and down of the bar). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ➕ In the stiff leg deadlift on the other hand we will find slightly less bended knees. The biggest difference with regard to the RDL is the fact that the hips stay in place here and movement is achieved by hinging and not pushing back and forth. This leads to a bar path that is further away from the body’s centre of mass thus making this exercise more erector spinae dominant. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ 🔈 Did you mix up RDLs and SDLs up till now?
