Hi welcome to the niche interest hut where I talk about extremely funny but underutilized canon for The Legend of Sleepy Hollow that never gets spoken of in fanworks or adjacent stories:
There are other ghosts hanging around Sleepy Hollow and they all hate the Headless Horseman (or think he's annoying)
The ghost of Ichabod Crane's terrible singing voice supposedly still haunts the woods
A plausible explanation for the story is that everyone who lives in Sleepy Hollow is under an enchantment that makes them wildly hallucinate all the time
Another plausible explanation for the story is that everyone in Sleepy Hollow is just really, really Dutch
There's a ghost lady nearby who screams every time the weather gets nasty and she's apparently a very reliable weather barometer
Ichabod spends several paragraphs fantasizing about food and has "the dilating powers of an anaconda"
The schoolhouse in Sleepy Hollow is designed like "a lobster trap", meaning everyone can get in but no one can leave
When the Headless Horseman's done scaring people to death, he apparently bails out of the scene by jumping over the trees
However, the narrator points out that the Headless Horseman who chased Ichabod Crane just so happened to ride a horse that looked like Brom Bones' horse, and just so happened to have Brom's exact build
Ichabod Crane supposedly dies in the end, but the worst possible ending for him is that he actually left Sleepy Hollow and became a lawyer

I see you, Ichabod Crane~ 🎃🐎👨‍🏫
'Tis the season to be spooky, bwahahahaha.... haha... ha... ha....
Spooky season is here. I wanted to paint for the occasion and I even had the mood already sort of planned out, together with the approximate composition. But there was a problem: I didn't know who or what my subject would be.
There were a few spooky, glowy-eyed ghouls at the start, but nothing landed, and I even considered the usual lonely guy. I played around for a bit until suddenly a name appeared in my brain: Ichabod Crane.
I knew then what I would be making my subject.
With this piece, I tried using a different brush, one that mimics watercolour a little more. It took some time to get used to it, but eventually I kind of got it -- still room of improvement, though. I then finished the whole thing off with a bit of a sepia tint, using a sort of mild 'colour burn' overlay to the whole pic for the mood.

American Lives: Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
When Washington Irving published 'The Legend of Sleepy Hollow' in 1820, he forever blessed - or cursed - the town of Sleepy Hollow, turning a modest cemetery in the Hudson Valley into a tourist attraction.

A binding of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow by Washington Irving.
Over October I had this grand plan to bind a bunch of classic spooky stories but this is the only one I actually finished.
And Im really happy with how it came out!!

I played with making more dramatic title splashes in this one. Printing it required me to swap back and forth between my lazar and inkjet printers strategically. Which was easier then I suspected it to be. I may do some books with color in.
Also I finally caved and got a cutting machine! I was shocked at how nice the labels came out using it. I may never go back to toner and foil.

I was just rereading the Wikipedia page for the Legend of Sleepy Hollow like you do on October 1st when you grew up in the Hudson Valley, and new Ichabod Crane theory just dropped, the man was a limp- wristed fairy trying to secure Katrina as a beard and what Brom Bones did was actually a hate crime, like look:
Tumblr media
He’s literally gossiping and talking witchcraft with the local fag hags, my man just wanted a rich wife to be a kept man and have an excuse to have his lover as his “manservant,” and his dreams of the ultimate 18th century old money sponsored provincial fruit lifestyle were thwarted by a jock with a pumpkin.
