Legion of Super-Heroes Issue #38 - Rainbow Girl.

image

Rainbow Girl first appeared in Adventure Comics #309 in 1963. She was created by Edmond Hamilton and John Forte.

image

As an aspiring actress, Dori Aandraison wanted to become a member of the Legion of Super-Heroes to increase her public exposure. She won a trip to Metropolis were Legion auditions were being held. Dori failed the tryouts and was rejected.

image

Years later even though Dori became a wealthy socialite she still yearned to join the Legion. She volunteered and was accepted into the Legion of Substitute Heroes as Rainbow Girl.

image

In more recent versions of the Legion, Dori works with the Legion of Substitute Heroes against Earthman and his xenophobic Justice League of Earth. She proves invaluable in defeating Earthman and his allies and in repelling an alien invasion of the planet.

image

Rainbow Girl is able to harness an emotional spectrum of color-based powers. She also creates a field that makes her appealing to everyone around her.

image

Rainbow Girl still does not completely understand her powers and there may be untapped potential within her.

Legion of Super-Heroes Issue #36 - Brainiac 5.

image

Brainiac 5 made his first appearance into the DC Universe in Action Comics #276 in 1961. “Brainy” is the creation of Jerry Siegel and Jim Mooney.

image

Brainiac 5 comes from the planet Colu and claims to be a direct descendent of Superman’s infernal nemesis Brainiac. Brainiac 5 wanted to join the Legion of Super-Heroes to help make amends for all of the crimes of his relative.

image

Brainiac 5 is literally the brains behind the Legion of Super-Heroes. His intelligence and ingenuity have led to the Legion flight ring and he created the serum which allowed Mon-El to exist outside of the Phantom Zone.

Brainiac 5 has helped the Legion escape from one bad situation after another. For all of his genius though, Brainy has had some catastrophic blunders like the creation of Computo which attempted to take over Earth.

image

Brainiac 5 began to be portrayed as unstable as time progressed. He was prone to mood swings and irritability. His instability led to him creating a robot version of Supergirl and framing Ultra Boy for the murder of his girlfriend. Brainiac’s decent into madness led to him trying to destroy the Universe with the Miracle Machine. He was stopped by Matter-Eater lad who literally ate the machine. Both were committed to a mental hospital.

image
image

When Brainiac 5 was cured and released he went about trying to correct his mistakes. He found a cure for Matter-Eater Lad’s madness, found a way to control Computo and helped prove Ultra Boy was innocent.

image

Brainiac 5 has long held a crush on Supergirl. When Supergirl was killed in the Crisis Infinite Earth’s storyline he was the only one that held onto memories. Even though Supergirl had been erased from the timeline, Brainiac 5’s love for her was so great that not even the rewritten Universe could eliminate her from his mind.

image
image

Brainiac 5 has a genius level I.Q.. He is an adapt strategist and tactician. Brainiac 5 is always thinking multiple levels ahead of his adversaries and that makes him indispensable to the Legion.

Legion of Super-Heroes Issue #35 - R.J. Brande.

image

The man who created the Legion of Super-Heroes is R.J. Brande. He met Saturn Girl, Cosmic Boy and Lightning Lad while on a trip to Earth. The trio of teens worked together using their individual powers and saved his life during an assination attempt. R.J. was so impressed by the super-powered trio that he told them of Superboy and said they could be just like him as a force of good in the Universe. R.J. became their benefactor and funded the Legion of Super-Heroes.

image
image

It was revealed that R.J. was actually Ren Daggle, a Durlan shapeshifter who was permanently frozen in human form. R.J. and his deceased wife were the biological parents of Chameleon Boy and his twin.

image
image

R.J. became one of the richest beings in the Universe by creating suns for his clients. With his incredible wealth he was able to pay for and support the Legion of Super-Heroes and their adventures across the galaxy.

image

R.J. was always the major financier for the Legion of Super-Heroes, but, he was also their biggest fan and supporter. R.J. often went to bat for the teen heroes clashing with Earth-Gov or other entities that wanted to destroy his creation.

image

R.J. has survived numerous assination attempts, sometimes with the help of his beloved “pups” in the Legion.

R.J. is a father figure for all of the members of the Legion of Super-Heroes.
