Fus Ro Dah!

I was blessed enough to receive The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim as a present this past Christmas. Now, one thing to know about me is that I AM NOT A GAMER... I’ve played no more than six console games during my lifespan, and a grand total of NONE on the PC. But I was instantly drawn into the world of the Elder Scrolls by its deep and fleshed-out lore and setting. I decided to dip my toe into the world of Skyrim and I was not disappointed! The game became an instant favorite of mine. Thus, like everything I love, I decided to materialize it using LEGO! 

I will admit, getting the Dovahkiin’s helmet just right was a challenge. As you can see above I drilled a hole into each side of the helmet to fit the rare tan cow horns from Indiana Jones. The next part, or rather the first part as I did it first, was creating the accurate details of studded armor on a minifigure torso. Next, the latest sword mold from LEGO looks astoundingly accurate to Skyrim’s iconic Steel Sword. And finally, the banded iron shield is a custom design on top of the viking’s shield from series 20, where I also got the helmet. The process was grueling but the result was worth it, as I now have an accurate LEGO representation of the Dovahkiin!

But perhaps the model that will catch most people’s eye is the Alduin Figure. Getting the wing’s skeleton in the right shape was a challenge, and that’s not even considering the creation of the fabric wings themselves. But after that, the rest cam rather easily, Alduin is a big, black, spiky dragon, a design that hits close to home for me. The horns on his head were tough, as there’s no piece in LEGO that can pull of their unique shape quite as closely as black spikes in Exo-Force arms. But alas, the Wold eater was finally completed, and I love the way he looks. 

For future LEGO Skyrim plans, I plan on making a LEGO Word Wall, resembling the one at the Throat of the World. That way I can recreate the iconic battle at the summit, the closest scene we get to the Alduin vs Dovahkiin battle so prominent in the marketing of the game. I’ll take these MOCs and more to my nearest LEGO convention when that comes along. Anyway I’m so happy to share this here, leave a comment on what you think about the MOCs or Skyrim itself!

Introducing the Toa Akau, a team of six veteran warriors who fought alongside the armies of the Brotherhood of Makuta against the League of Six Kingdoms. These great heroes were all honored for their feats and received special ceremonially-reforged Kanohi masks, in the same style which would later be worn by Toa Lhikan.

These models were updated & redesigned from an old deleted post of mine from years ago, to serve as my entry in the #toateambuilding contest hosted by @sharreek42 on Instagram.

All six members use one of the secondary elements, and all wear Vanguard/Champion style masks.

No more anime girls, this is a Skrunkles account now Makuta here takes design cues from both the movie and toy designs, so its a bit of a hybrid. Im glad I could pay homage to the reversible mask (albeit with a bit of partsforming). He's totally buildable with real parts. Takanuva is errr... not, buildable with real parts. Not at all. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Ok so maybe Im a *little* late for april fools. But in my defense I had to learn both mecabricks and blender from scratch overnight, and those programs and I do *not* get along. So IDK what's going on with the lighting here, or why some parts are randomly glowing. But these are the sacrifices I make to get around stud.io's awful metallic colours.

MOC Showcase: The Flying Dutchman

I won’t mince words. Pirates of the Caribbean is perhaps my favorite movie trilogy of all time (and there are ONLY THREE MOVIES... we don’t talk about the last two ;)). And by far, my favorite part of the films was the intimidating character of Davy Jones, and his terrifying ship, the Flying Dutchman. For years, I yearned to build this fascinating vessel in LEGO, inspired by other MOCs by the LEGO community. And after years of honing my skill, I finally tackled this MOC about three years ago. After two long weeks of adjustments, problem-solving, and a VERY messy workspace, I finally finished what has to be my proudest MOC... EVER. 

Quite frankly, there’s very little I can tell you that the pictures above don’t show even better, so I’ll just briefly run through some of the Dutchman’s features. The lower deck features a compliment of four cannons, so one side of the Dutchman can be fully armed at once. The upper deck has the capstan used to summon the Kraken, and a screen-accurate cannon-well to access the lower deck without tearing off the top. Inside the Captain’s quarters is Davy Jones’ organ as seen in the films, and a little side-table with a quill and wand, to recreate the humorous scene of stealing key from Dead Man’s Chest. 

The bow of the ship features the iconic serrated mouth and the oft-overlooked skeleton figurehead wielding a sickle. Perhaps my favorite feature are the rotating triple guns as seen in the films, which are actuated via a gear mechanism hidden in the bow. For some more general features, the sails are custom-cut from stiff green paper, purposefully tattered to resemble the sea-soaked seaweed of the Dutchman. For a size comparison, I put the Dutchman next to my custom Black Pearl (showcase coming for that too soon!). 

Lastly, the Dutchman is crewed by a full crew of seven, each minifigure custom-made to recreate the appearance of their counterparts in the films. From left to right are Koleniko, Crash (past Jack Sparrow) Hadras, Davy Jones, Maccus, Clanker, and Bootstrap Bill. 

The Flying Dutchman is the pride and joy of my collection. I spent so many late nights just trying to nail the shapes and colors, and I could not be prouder of the result. I’m so happy to be able to share this MOC with the community, having even taken it to my local Brickfair!
