Leo Valdez was going to lose his mind.
Or maybe a limb. Maybe that would get your attention. He wasn't going to pretend that he wasn't that desperate for you to turn your focus to him.
Stupid Garrett from stupid Ares. Why did he have to go and nearly get his head chopped off by Clarisse while sparring, stealing his thunder?
He should have done more than let his finger slip while hammering away in bunker nine. An exciting injury would have earned the most prized reward of your attention, for sure.
"Are you sure she's too busy?" Leo asked Will for probably four times too many to be considered casual. The blond only rolled his eyes and shoved an icepack into Leo's chest, nearly knocking him back a step, snapping him from his far too obvious admiring of you.
Even from across the infirmary, three hours into your shift, you stole the wind from his lungs. He was convinced you were a favorite of Apollo's, what with the way you glowed and lit up every room you were in.
Which is how he ended up in his current predicament. Absolutely desperate for any hint of your sunshine smile sent in his direction.
"Positive. Now, get out." Will confirmed, checking things off on his clipboard. Leo figured he was probably recording basic information like the patient—himself—had all his limbs, both eyes, ten fingers, and was practically drooling at his half-sister. Leo darted another glance across the room to you, still diligently assessing moronic Garrett from Ares who had been brain dead enough to accept Clarisse's offer of sparring.
Why were you blushing so much?
Something awful and too familiar twisted in his stomach, and all Leo could hear was Piper's voice telling him that he better make his move on you soon, because you were too sweet and too pretty to remain single much longer.
"When's her break again?" Leo asked, ignoring the way Will tipped his head back and closed his eyes, like he was praying for the strength to not hit his patient while under his care.
"And you can't ask her yourself because...?" Will prompted, dragging out the final word and forcing Leo to snap his attention towards the son of Apollo, his jaw practically open in shock.
"Because then she'll know I'm totally into her!" Leo whisper-shouted, waving his hands around as if to emphasize his point.
"You come in here everyday with a new injury asking for her to fix you up." Will pointed out, voice flat. "If she hasn't figured it out yet, I'm not sure she will. You should probably just be direct and ask her out."
Leo narrowed his eyes at Will, but on a rare miracle, he was at a loss for words. Maybe Will had a point. Leo was never exactly good at being subtle about his many, many, crushes, and if you hadn't realized he was hopelessly in love with you yet, then maybe he was safe from feeling the sting of your rejection.
"You're not going to talk to her, are you?" Will sighed, tilting his head slightly as he studied Leo, who, despite having already been given the magic remedy of an ice pack, remained perched on the side of a cot used as a medic's bed.
Leo shook his head side-to-side so quickly Will was a blur of blond hair and orange t-shirt in front of him.
"No can do." Leo said solemnly. "She's miles out of my league. Not even I'm stupid enough to think I have a shot with her."
"Well, at least Garrett isn't as oblivious as you," Will shrugged, shooting Leo a pointed look he didn't understand. The ugly feeling was back in Leo's stomach as he darted his attention towards you and the gods-damned son of Ares.
You were laughing, and Leo wasn't the cause.
Jealousy flared up in him.
You, on the other hand, were completely ignorant to the conversation occurring on the opposite side of the infirmary, far too engrossed in charismatic Garrett from Ares who was retelling the story of how Clarisse had knocked him on his ass and sent him to get bandaged up.
For a child of the war god, he was surprisingly graceful in his defeat.
"Next time, at least bring a shield with you." You smiled at Garrett, checking off the final few items on your clipboard. No major injuries towards his limbs, nor his ten fingers, neither of his eyes had been affected, and he was able to hold a proper conversation with you. "Otherwise I've got nothing else for you. Just an order to take the rest of the day easy."
"I can manage that," Garrett relented, which, for a demigod, was a pretty big ask. Taking it easy was never really an option when one of your parents was a god or goddess. "Hey, any particular reason Valdez is looking at me like he's going to send one of his inventions after me?"
Your heart skipped a beat, but you forced yourself to act casual as you turned around slightly, finding that Leo had in fact found his way into the infirmary and in fact was staring at Garrett like he might make a good snack for Festus.
You had been starting to worry, thinking that maybe he wasn't going to show up that day.
"Dunno," You shrugged, ducking your face into your clipboard so you didn't have to look at Leo, or Garrett, or Will—who was sending you a look that was both pointed and annoyed at the same time. "But you're set to go."
"Perfect," Garrett jumped off of the examination bed, acting like he hadn't been carried in by two of his half-brothers, a sly grin on his face. "You sure that's not jealousy on Valdez's face?"
"What? Why would Leo be jealous?" You were ashamed to admit you stumbled over your words, your face turning a vibrant shade of red, as you considered the implication of Garrett's words. That Leo might have been into you, enough that just the sight of you talking to Garrett might have been enough to turn his mood sour. "We're just friends."
"Sure," Garrett grinned wickedly, the kind of grin only children of Ares could ever create. The kind that told he totally didn't believe her rushed dismissal of his words. "All I want is an invitation to the wedding. Talk to you later!"
Garrett darted off before you could swat at him with your clipboard, your face flushed with embarrassment. Gods, were you really that obvious in your crush on Leo?
Sure, he came into the infirmary just about every day you were working, with some minor injury or another for you to tend to. And maybe you took a little longer to heal him than you did when Percy or the Stolls came in, were a little sweeter, but were you so transparent that even Garrett from Ares knew what you felt?
"For the love of all the gods and goddesses, would you please just go talk to him?" Will grumbled, borderline exhausted, as he appeared at your side. You jumped, nearly lost in thought, and narrowed your sunshine stare at your half-brother. "He won't leave until he gets the chance to brag to you about his latest made-up injury."
You didn't have to ask who Will was talking about. Leo was still watching you from across the room, rather impatiently. He'd managed to find a few loose bolts and washers and was currently inventing something you couldn't comprehend while he stared very pointedly at the ground by your feet, having averted his stare the moment you darted yours in his direction.
"Shut up," You mumbled to Will, but regardless you dashed off across the room with what felt like permission to engage in your favorite part of the day.
You had received Apollo's gifts of healing, not his poetic words. And every day you cursed that fact, because never could you put into words just how much being around Leo Valdez made you feel centered within yourself. It was like his very personality gave you permission to the version of you that was nearly lost to time and circumstance and the tragedy of being a Greek hero.
"What's the problem today?" You grinned, the smile your half-siblings claimed shined brightest in the camp plastered on your face almost of its own accord as you stood before Leo.
"My hand, Doc." He sighed, playing along and holding up his left hand while the right shoved the ice pack Will had already given him behind his back. You snorted a laugh, and Leo's grin broke out from the solemn facade he had attempted. "I don't know if I'll ever be able to work again if you don't help me."
"Well there's only one solution," You nodded, pretending to read something off of your clipboard—which was still filled out with Garrett's information.
"Anything you recommend is good with me," Leo leaned closer, trying to read over the edge of your clipboard, which you quickly tugged close to your body.
"Right, I've got it." You grinned, dropping your face closer to his, almost like your heart was in control of your body instead of your mind. Leo nodded, and you would have sworn you saw his gaze shoot to your lips for the briefest of seconds. "Amputation. Mr. Valdez, I'm afraid we're going to have to take your hand off."
"But, that's my pretty hand!" Leo protested, playing into your joke quickly. You couldn't even pretend to hide your smile, laughter falling past your lips just as easily as breathing.
"Then I'm afraid there's nothing else we can do for you." You shook your head, grinning widely at Leo, who was—for a guy with ADHD as severe as him—giving you his full attention. "You're free to go. I'll see you and your pretty hand at the bonfire tonight."
"Glad to hear you agree that my hand is pretty." Leo slid off of the examination bed with a grin that had you flushing and looking over the contents of your clipboard simply for something to do with your eyes. "See you later, Doc."
Waving, you sent Leo off.
Tumblr media
Over the course of the following week, Leo had found himself at the infirmary—during your shifts only—six more times.
Three smashed fingers from equipment you knew for a fact he knew how to handle properly. One cut to his arm from a piece of scrap metal. A paper cut.
On Thursday, he came in complaining of a serious burn.
"Doc, you'll never believe it. My whole arm caught on fire."
Will hadn't let him into the infirmary, claiming that Leo needed a better lie than that to come visit, since everyone already knew he was fireproof.
Leo came back fifteen minutes later with a second paper cut. Will took his break an hour early, claiming he needed to for his sanity.
But then you didn't so much as catch a glimpse of Leo for four straight days.
You felt more than a little pathetic, jumping every time the door to the infirmary opened, hoping against hope that it would be the curly haired son of Hephaestus you so adored.
On the afternoon of the fifth day, the door opened and you couldn't stop the way your body instinctively twisted around from where you words repacking first aide kits that were left in various locations around camp.
But it wasn't Leo standing at the door, but Piper.
You weren't the closest with her, but you were friendly. So you didn't think she was there for you, at first, until you saw her talking to your half-sister Stella and pointing towards you.
"Hey," Piper's voice had an edge of seriousness to it that snagged your attention, halting your efforts of resupplying. "I was wondering if I could ask a favor of you."
"Okay...?" You trailed off, not sure what she could have needed from you.
"Would you be willing to talk to Leo for me? He's in Bunker Nine, convinced he's going to make some big breakthrough on whatever machine he's currently working on." Piper explained and you nodded slowly, not seeing the problem. From your conversations with Leo, he always seemed to be in the middle of some big breakthrough. "He hadn't come out in four days. It's not healthy."
You frowned, trying to recall the last time you'd seen Leo at any of the meals. And when your mind came up blank, you settled on your answer to Piper's request.
"I'll talk to him."
Tumblr media
You had never been to Bunker Nine.
As much as you talked to Leo, pretty much everyday, it was always in yours and shared spaces. The infirmary, mainly, but every once in a while at the dining pavilion or at the camp bonfires.
But you could barely focus on any one thing in the bunker. Half-finished projects littered the space, along with countless tools, scraps, and blueprints tacked haphazardly against walls and bulletin boards.
Since it was nearly dinner, the bunker had cleared out of all but one of its occupants. Perched over a table, working so diligently he didn't hear you approach, was none other than Leo Valdez.
Without thinking of the consequences, you dropped the canvas bag you had brought with you on his worktable, startling him so much he jumped in surprise and nearly sent his latest project clattering to the floor.
"Gods!" He shouted, wide eyed and hand pressed to his chest as if he could physically calm his racing heart. You couldn't help the way you grinned, a little lopsided, wholly endeared by him. "Sorry, were you trying to kill me? Because, if so, mission almost accomplished!"
"Actually, the opposite." With a confidence you didn't really possess, you leaned against the worktable next to him and started pulling tinfoil wrapped sandwiches out of the bag. "Everyone's convinced I'm your appointed caretaker, since you don't seem to do it yourself."
Leo had the good sense to seem chastised by the glare you sent him following your words. It wasn't like he could deny it, anyways. How many times had he ended up on your patient list?
"Did Jason put you up to this?"
"Piper," You confirmed, pushing a wrapped sandwich across the table towards him. Next out of the bag was a metal bowl, the bottom slightly charred and filled with paper scraps and twigs. "Light this for me, will you, please?"
"Well, when you ask so nicely," Leo grinned, a ball of flame forming in his palm and igniting the twigs in the bowl. Without needing to be told, Leo unwrapped his sandwich and ripped off a chunk to throw into the flames.
You copied his actions. And if you made a wordless prayer to Aphrodite to ask for a little assistance, that was no one's business but your own.
"I've..." You hesitated, darting a glance to Leo before focusing on your sandwich, biting down your declaration that you've missed him in the infirmary. He had already started eating, only further proof that he had been skipping meals while holed up in the bunker. "How come you're always getting hurt, Mr. Clumsy? I thought children of Hephaestus are supposed to be good in the forges."
You would have sworn you saw Leo blush, but your attention quickly darted away from him the moment he lifted his eyes to yours.
"You sure you wanna know the truth?" Leo asked his voice a kind of serious that was almost out of character for him. You nodded, slowly, and forced yourself to meet his eye. "I've been getting hurt on purpose."
"Leo Valdez!"
"Wait, let me finish!" Leo held up his hands to defend himself from your words and your glare, the healer in your absolutely hated the fact that Leo would have done anything to intentionally cause himself harm. "I did it because I got an excuse to see you."
"What?" For a child of Apollo, you sure didn't have a way with words. Distantly, you cursed the fact that you were a gifted healer and not a poet, because you knew what Leo's words meant and yet you couldn't get your own to function. "Wait—"
"I know this sounds stupid," Leo dragged a hand through the dark, disheveled curls atop his head. "But Will wouldn't let me in to see you if I wasn't hurt! So I... maybe... lied, a little bit."
You frowned, in thought. Thinking back, you couldn't remember Leo ever actually being hurt beyond the occasional cut or scrap. You'd always been so caught up in him and his visits to notice.
"I swear I'm not weird. I just really like you." Leo winced, no doubt taking your silence in a bad way.
And you weren't one of Apollo's poetically gifted children, so you simply pressed your lips against his and hoped he got the message.
It was a short kiss, a good first kiss, you noted with no small satisfaction. Your lips tingled and your fingertips were buzzing—and Leo looked like he had just won the lottery.
"You're sweet," You smiled, a thousand watt one that maybe Leo adored as much as your half-siblings did, and nudged his sandwich closer to him. "But you're banned from the infirmary unless you're actively dying. And for real!"
Leo paused, and you could practically see the gears turning in his head, trying to create a scenario that would get him past the barrier of your totally official and absolutely within rules ban.
"I can make that happen,"
"No, you can't," You tried to shoot him a discouraging look, but your smile was far too wide to deal any real damage. "Or else I'll go to tonight's bonfire with someone else."
"Nope!" He shook his head quickly, hair bouncing with the movement and expression light with an impish grin. "You kissed me, Doc. You're stuck with me, now."
You smiled, silently deciding you wouldn't mind being stuck with him.
"That's what I thought."
Leaning over to press a second kiss to the corner of his lips, you pretended not to notice the sparks dancing in his curls.

stranger - [l.valdez]
Tumblr media
1.5K wordcount
warnings: angst
requested: no
prompt: you have the power to forget anyone if you say the word ‘stranger’ to them
"All you care about it your stupid machines!" I spat at my best friend, slamming my hand on a workbench in frustration. My voice was trembling, and my hands shook.
"All you care about is wasting my time!" Leo shot back, tears in his eyes. He blinked repeatedly, forcing them away.
"Wasting your time?" I scoffed. "That's what you call wanting to be around you? You're my best friend, and- and-" I swallowed back a sob.
Leo didn't take any notice, his attention already back on his newest invention, whatever it was. We were in Bunker Nine, the only place Leo ever spent any time in anymore. I barely saw him outside of his favourite workplace, and if I did, it wasn't for very long.
I had to come to the bunker to talk to my best friend, and ever then, our conversations were mostly one-sided, Leo being preoccupied with whatever gadget he was working on.
I felt like I was losing him, and it hurt, bad.
"Look," Leo said finally, "I don't have time to waste arguing with you, so either shut up or stay here, I don't care."
"Leo, I really need to talk to you. It's important." I stared at him, ashamed at how pathetic I sounded. I did want to talk to him, and it was kind of important. Today was the day I planned to finally tell Leo about my feelings for him. They'd been there for months now, ever since I'd first met him, really.
But recently those feelings had been growing burning hot. I could barely stand how much I liked the short Latino boy I called my best friend. In fact, if I was serious with myself, I was deeply in love with him.
"I don't have time for you."
Leo's words stung like nothing else ever had. I was so stunned I actually stumbled back a few steps, hot tears blurring my vision.
"Leo..." I began to cry, bawling like a child into my hands. I felt absolutely, ridiculously pathetic, but I truly couldn't help it.
"Look, just leave me alone, please," Leo said dismissively. "I'm really busy, and you're kind of bugging me."
I couldn't take this. It hurt too much. I'd promised myself I'd never use my power (or curse as I preferred to call it), but this was the final straw. I didn't want to live with this pain any longer.
"Stranger," I whispered, and crumpled to the ground.
***
"Y/N!"
My eyes slowly fluttered open, and the first thing I saw were a pair of concerned looking brown eyes, which were filled with tears.
I pushed myself up onto my elbows, and found myself lying on a battered old couch in a large workshop.
I blinked a few times, then looked at the person who'd been crouching beside me.
"Y/N...?" the Latino boy asked me, worry and guilt in his eyes, though I wasn't sure why. I didn't even know this kid.
"Who are you?" I asked softly, frowning a little in confusion.
"No..." the boy mumbled, tears spilling over his cheeks. "No, no, no. I'm so freaking stupid!" He kept muttering angrily at himself, and I couldn't help but feel a little bad for him.
"Hey, what's wrong?" I asked him, gingerly placing my hand on his arm. "Don't beat yourself up over it, whatever it is. I'm sure it wasn't your fault. And anyways, if it was, I'm sure you can fix it."
My words, while I intended them to help, only seemed to worsen the boy's despaired crying.
I looked on nervously, while this boy I didn't even know cried his heart out next to me.
"Um..." I said after a few minutes. "Where are we? And who are you, anyways? I need to get back to Camp Half-Blood -- its my home..." I paused. "Why a, I in this workshop? How did I get here? And who even are you?"
The boy slowly met my eyes. "My name is Leo Valdez," he said gravelly. "And we're in the secret bunker in the middle of the woods at Camp Half-Blood. Don't worry, I'll take you back in a minute."
I smiled. "Okay, thanks."
I settled myself into a more comfortable sitting position on the old brownish vouch, and watched curiously as the boy hurried to clean up a mess he'd aapparently made while building something.
"I am so sorry."
Leo's words startled me. "What for?" I asked in surprise. "You didn't do anything. I've never even met you before just now."
"You have the power to forget someone when you say 'stranger'," the boy replied miserably.
My eyes widened slightly, and I swore my heart skipped a beat. How did he know-? There was only one way... and it made me depressed just thinking about it.
"Did I..." My voice failed me. "Did I make myself forget you?"
The boy's expression told me all I needed to know.
"Oh." Even to myself, my voice sounded small. "I'm sorry." I meant it. I had no idea who this boy was, or what he had meant to me, but it was all gone now. Permanently, irreversibly, completely gone. All I could do was make new memories, but I wasn't sure if I wanted to. Who knew why I'd decided to forget him.
"Why did I do it?" I asked cautiously, watching Leo to gauge his reaction.
"Because I'm a stupid asshole," he replied. "You are- you were, my best friend, and I was stupid... I told you I never had time for you, and that spending time with you was wasting it."
I was quiet, listening. My fingers played with a loose thread from the couch's armrest.
"I was lying," Leo continued, "to you, and myself. I- I'd fallen in love with you, Y/N, and it scared me. I said I didn't have time for you because I was terrified that you'd be weirded out. That you'd not want to be friends anymore, or something. I-I know this is really weird, and I know you don't even remember me-"
His voice trembled, and I sensed that if he said anything more, he'd cry. I decided not to make him say anything.
I got up off the couch, and slowly stepped over to him. "Hey..." I started. "Don't worry..." I stopped myself. Why wouldn't he worry? Clearly, this was my fault, but he was blaming himself. Maybe he'd played a part in making me want to forget him. I wasn't sure, but I didn't want Leo to beat himself up over this. I wasn't worth that.
"I-" Leo shook his head. "I'm so freaking sorry, Sunshine."
"S-Sunshine?" I asked, my breath hitching. Maybe I didn't remember him, but something deep inside of me recognised that nickname.
Leo's face went red. "I'm sorry," he stammered. "That's what I used to call you, you know, before-" He blushed, looking down sadly. "Because, you know, you're a daughter of Apollo and he's the sun god, and--"
I stopped his rambling with a sudden hug, surprising us both. "Like I said, don't worry about it," I told him. "I- I think I made a mistake in making myself forget you. I really want to be friends again, if that's okay with you."
I watched his eyes light up. "Yes, yes please," Leo almost begged, squeezing me tightly. "I am never ever gonna forgive myself for making you so sad you wanted to forget me, but I don't want to lose you for anything."
I managed a smile, and sent a quick prayer to my dad, hoping he'd listen to me.
Hey dad? Please undo my curse. I mean, super awesome blessing from you. Just this once, please. I think- I think I was in love with this boy, and I don't want to lose that. Please let me remember him.
A few seconds later, I gasped, blinking a few times. "Oh my gods, Leo!" I said. "It- it worked! I-I remember you!"
Leo stared at me. "Really? But-"
"My, uh, power- it's from my dad, and I asked him for a huge favour and begged him to undo it just this once. Because..." I went red. "I had a feeling, and well, it turns out I was right."
"A feeling about what?" Leo asked curiously, fiddling with his tool belt.
"I had a feeling I had been in love with you before I, uh, chose to forget." I grinned sheepishly, kicking the ground with the edge of my sneaker. "And I was right."
Leo's smile was brighter than my dad's sun chariot, and his kiss filled me with much more warmth, too.

A soft but repetitive knock on the door woke Y/N. Thank the gods their siblings were all away for the winter or they would have had a full-blown mutiny on their hands. Grasping around their nightstand for their alarm clock, it took them a moment to recover the elusive item. When discovered, it assaulted their eyeballs with a vengeful glare of light. Guess it didn't want to be disturbed, either. Huh, Y/N thought, join the club.
3:28 in the morning. Yeah, they weren't too pleased about that.
Throwing the warm, tight covers off of themselves, fully prepared to spar with whoever decided to interfere with the delicate work of Hypnos, Y/N whipped open the door. Immediately, all their anger washed off them in a tsunami wave.
There was their boyfriend, Leo Valdez. Shaking like a leaf in the slight draft allowed through the magical barrier of Camp Half-Blood. Overall, not their favorite sight.
"Oh, my Gods!" Y/N exclaimed, grabbing the frozen boy by the shoulder and pulling him in.
"I was outside the door," was all he managed to mumble.
"Yeah, I could see that," All humor disappeared from Y/N's face at the look on Leo's.
"What's wrong?" They were suddenly on guard.
"I- Um, I..." Leo trailed off as a violent shudder racked over him.
"Oh, Gods, c'mere!" Within seconds, Leo was sat cross-legged on his partner's bed, wrapped up burrito-style in the fluffiest blanket Y/N could steal off one of their half-sibling's beds. Y/N sat in front of him.
Immediately, he collapsed into their arms.
"I had a nightmare," he sniffled. "I couldn't figure out where to go."
Y/N placed a solid kiss on his forehead before responding.
"You know you can come here right away," they pouted dotingly.
"I... couldn't," he struggled out. "It was about you."
"What..." Y/N took a deep breath to compose themself. "What did I do?"
"Not what you did... what was done to you," Leo emphasized.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Y/N cooed.
"No..." Leo moved for the first time in minutes, shaking his head vigorously.
Y/N shushed him to calm down, rubbing their hands up and down his arms comfortingly.
"Please, can you just... sing to me?" Leo requested, voice dipping to an all-time low.
Y/N agreed eagerly. As they helped arrange for Leo to lie against their pillow, they admired him. Even in his weakened state, he trusted them. They knew his past. They knew that having his trust was no laughing matter. He knew they intended to honor it.
Leo snuggled close to their warmth. He nuzzled his face into the crook of their neck and allowed them to wrap their arms around his waist.
They could feel Leo's breath slow as they began, their whispered tone making the intimate scene feel like home. At least, that's how Leo felt.
"Leo," Y/N hummed. "Wrap me up in all your-"
"I want you in my arms," Leo added.
"Oh, let me hold you."
That is exactly what they did.
I'll never let you go again...

Really, dude? [Leo Valdez]
Genre : Fluff, Funny
Summary : Y/N has had a crush on Leo since the moment she saw him. They were best friends now. What happens when she tries to confess her love for him?
"How about no?"
"How about yes-"
"No Leo. I will NOT help you make vibrators to sell them online and get money"
"But imagine the amount of money we'll get. We could buy new shoes and-"
"Shut up before I tell this to Percy and make him drown you in the camp's lake for corrupting me"
"You're the most disgusting minded creature I know, woman"
"But does HE know?".
Leo sighed in defeat. He knew I won this argument too, like I did always. He had this stupid idea to make vibrators and illegally sell it to people outside camp so he could get money and buy a new playstation.
Being his best friend, it was his job to annoy me and pull me in in all of his antics.
Some of them were good, and I would gladly accept making vibrators but if anyone found out we'd be in more trouble than usual.
"Why don't we just hang out near the lake for the day?", I asked.
"The same lake your brother was supposed to drown me in?", He raised an eyebrow and put a hand on his hip.
"Oh my Gods you're so smart, McShizzle Man Daddy Leo", I said in a high pitched voice trying to mock him.
"See lady, when you say that it isn't hot-"
"You sound like this though"
"No, I don't. I sound hot"
"You sound like a bitch"
"A hot bitch"
"An ugly bitch actually-"
"Y/N! LEO! THERE YOU ARE!!". Both of us turned behind to see Jason running towards us with a small smile. His blonde hair swept behind as he ran. His purple shirt tight against his muscles.
"Stop eye-fucking him, Y/N. He's already taken", Leo whispered into my ear.
I looked at him and smirked, "Don't worry. I'm into scrawny guys".
"Wait really-"
"Hey Y/N, Leo". Jason finally reached us and softly panted. He brushed his hair to the side and gave his respectful smile.
"Wassup?", Leo and I both said it in unison, but that was a natural occurrance.
We're best friends, we share one braincell.
"Percy and I decided to hangout at the Posiedon Cabin. We wanted you to come too", Jason looked at me and said.
"You're not gonna invite me?", Leo gave a fake hurt expression.
"It's a hangout for the seven of us, and we decided to invite Y/N too"
"You're going to invite me in my own Cabin?", I raised my eyebrow at Jason, making the boy beside me laugh.
"I-"
"We'll come, but we also have to go to the lake before the night", Leo cut him off and took my hand.
"Someone's getting jealous", I wiggled my eyebrows as we both set off in the other direction.
"No man can let my mamacita look at them like that", He crossed his arm and winked at me.
I laughed loudly and patted his arm. Just as I was about to comment something back, his sister Nyssa called him.
"Hey Leo! We need your help in making the new catapults!!", She said as she hulled a sheet of celestial bronze over her shoulders.
Leo looked back at me. "I'll see you later, Ma'am", he bid his farewell with bowing down and hopping off to his sister.
I smiled at his retreating figure with loving eyes. He was truly the best person I had met. From his cute features and charming personality, falling in love with him was easy.
"He's so oblivious, yknow", I heard a voice from behind me. I turned to find Piper and Jason standing side by side with their eyes on Leo who was now going back to his cabin.
"No, Pipes. I'm just good at being platonic"
"You flirt with him mercilessly"
"Which shows how platonic we are"
"Y/N, you should confess-"
"No, Piper". I cut her off. "After Calypso, I don't think he's ready yet". My arms circled around me as I give myself a hug.
"It's be a YEAR, Y/N", Jason softly said.
I just shook my head at him sadly and looked at his cabin. The nights where he cried in my arms, lonely and betrayed after his sudden break-up hurt me alot.
Calypso had broken up with him at dinner. She didn't explain at that time, and that hollowed Leo up. He wasn't okay after that. Calypso had left camp the next day and that left Leo's head filled with doubts.
I knew that if we ever got together, Leo would just hurt himself more.
"Lets just go and have lunch". I started walking away with my head down.
***
Lunch had finished in a blink of an eye with Percy talking on and on about how Finding Nemo and The Little Mermaid were the best movies in existence.
The talk from before had drained away my happiness and left me numb. I didn't eat much, but i didn't care. My fear for Leo's feelings increased with each passing moment.
Percy opened the door in front of me, snapping me out of my daze. As I entered my cabin, I saw Annabeth and Piper setting up the sofa with a bunch of board games. Drinks and popcorns and chips were set on the table beside.
Just as I sat on the couch with my knees up to my chest, a loud voice came from the door. I turned around and saw the rest of the guys come in. Frank entered first with a look of regret on his face with Hazel and Jason following him with small smiles. Just behind him a scrawny guy popped in laughing loudly
Instantly my mood became better.
Leo must have teased Frank making him pinch the bridge of his nose and silently sit by my side. Frank turned his head to me and frowned.
"Out of all the guys at camp.... You choose him???", He whispered.
I gave him a big smile, "Yes Zhang. Yes".
Leo then instantly came beside me and pushed Frank to the other side of the couch and sat beside me. "Hey Mama, long time no see", he wiggled his eyebrows making me laugh.
"Yes, and I missed you very much", I said and rested my head on his shoulder.
I felt him stiffen under me, but just a second later he loosened up. Resting his back on the couch, he became comfortable by my side.
"You okay, Y/N?", He softly asked me, not to get any attention.
"Not really. But after you came I feel better", I confessed.
Leo didn't reply back, but I could feel him smiling big.
Minutes later, Percy decided we all play Uno. In short, it was a mess.
Piper used charmspeak on all of us and Hazel used her magic mist to fool us what card she had. In the end Annabeth won with all the guys whining.
We played another game of Uno, but now without the three girls. I sat in beside Leo in the circle and continued my game. Though it was absolutely chaotic, with Percy and Leo continuously cheating, I loved having Leo beside me.
Two hours had gone by. We'd ended playing charades in which we had a girls vs boys match.
Of course the girls won.
As the hours went on, I naturally came to Leo's side without him questioning me. We comfortably sat on the couch with his legs over mine.
"Ahhh I had fun today", I heard Leo say softly.
Turning my head towards him I smiled, "Yeah. It was good. But look at the time, I guess we'll have to go to the beach tomorrow".
Leo suddenly pushed his face towards me and looked at me with wide eyes. In shock, I pulled my face back and stared at him back with my own wide eyes.
"Lady, when have we ever followed the rules of this camp? You literally sneaked out with me a bazillion times to go to Bunker 9. What's stopping us now?", He wiggled his eyebrows at me.
I laughed and pushed his face away from mine. "You make sense. So.... After dinner?", I proposed.
"Meet me there by 10", Leo winked at me as the conch horn blew for dinner.
Of course I blushed at his small action, but thankfully he didn't see me as he stood up at the sound of the horn.
"LET'S GO DEEP THROAT OURSELVES WITH SOME FOOD YO", Leo cheered and ran out of the cabin to the dining pavillion.
Just as I was about to follow him out, I heard Annabeth calling me. "Hey Y/N".
"Yeah?", I turned back to see her and the rest of the guys looking at me with concern.
"I don't wanna seem nosey, but will you ever confess to him about your love?", She frowned.
Of course she wanted to talk to me about this.
"I don't know, Annabeth. But at the moment, this is the best option-"
"Please, I'm no daughter of Athena but that is the best option", Hazel got up from her seat and looked at me right in the eye. "We all can see how much the both of you like eachother".
"T-The both...of us??", I tilted my head.
What did she mean by 'the both of us'?.
"Yes. The BOTH of you. I know you both spend more time with eachother than what we see, but all the moments we both see of you I know Leo likes you back. Heck, I feel like you're all on his mind", She explained.
I looked down at my hands. Suddenly feeling insecure about myself as I remembered who was Leo's first girlfriend.
It was a Goddess for fuck's sake!!!
I remembered how beautiful she was when she was still at camp. Her beautiful long blonde hair that rested by her face perfectly. Her almond eyes that could make anyone dreamy. Her pouty lips that made her look like a doll.
I had none of that, and that was what Leo fell in love with.
His standards were too high, and I didn't even reach it.
"I don't really know, guys. He fell in love with Calypso who broke up with him out of the blue. If we were to ever date, then he'll just be too paranoid about me leaving him", I softly said.
My mood that was once good, going down the drain abruptly.
"But you'd never leave him. He just has to learn to trust you, and that's something you both have to work on", This time, Percy was the one to speak.
It was rare to have him give any advice, but I knew what he said was right. A relationship works only when both the partners work together, and Percy had alot of experience with Annabeth throughout the years.
I looked down and nodded, a sudden burst of motivation flowing through me.
"I'll confess to him tonight. When we're at the beach", I announced with confidence.
"But won't the harpies be there?", Frank asked looking around.
"Don't worry, Y/N. You go ahead with no worries. We have your back", Jason got up and smiled. "Now let's go to eat, we're getting late".
***
Dinner was done fast, with all of us sitting in our respectful tables since it was dinner.
At about 8, we all head back to our cabins for the night, but with my plan to confess to Leo, Percy and I were up.
"So, should I wear this?", I held up a red frock in my hands and directed it towards Percy.
He was laying down on his bed propped up on his elbow. "Little Sister, you're not going on a date, you're going to a hangout", he yawned.
"But I'm gonna PROPOSE-"
"But does he know about it?", Percy raised his eyebrow.
I sighed in defeat and sagged down on my bed. It was 9:30 now, and thirty minutes were left for me to meet the love of my life.
"Hey Y/N", I heard Percy call me out.
"Mmm?", I grumbled.
"Wear anything you want. Keep it simple and probably put on something you know he would like", he said from his bed.
"He likes the colour red", I stated.
"That's why you took out your red frock....", I could hear the smirk in my brother's voice.
"I know, stupid. I'll just wear a hoodie with some sweatpants. I don't think he'll really care".
"Don't you have one of his hoodies with you...?", Percy finally sat up and looked at me with bright eyes.
My eyes widened in realisation. I got up from my bed and walked up to my wardrobe to find one of Leo's favourite red hoodie he had given me one night when we were at bunker 9.
"I like what you think, brother. Now I shall go change". I picked the hoodie up with my black sweatpants and went to the bathroom for a quick body bath.
I brushed my teeth and put my hair up in a messy ponytail. I didn't put any perfume on, since the scent of Leo was already driving me crazy.
Looking at myself in the mirror, I blushed crazily.
I was going to fucking CONFESS to a boy!!!
ASGHSJDLDLDLFJKFLGLKFKKSKSJSHSKAJDJD
I rubbed my cheeks and went out of the bathroom to find Nico lying on my bed as Annabeth laid beside Percy.
Annabeth noticed me coming out of the bathroom and smiled. She then looked at Nico, "I called him to shadow travel you safely to Leo".
"Yo", I greeted the emo boy.
He simply nodded his head and got up from my bed.
Nico and I too were very close friends after I found out about how he had a crush on Percy. It always made me crack how Percy just wasn't Nico's type.
"Come on, Nicola. We have a boy to confess to", I said as I put on my vans.
"I've already confessed to my boy. And please, stop calling me that", He groaned.
"What? Nicola???", I smirked.
"I will cut your breasts off-"
"Okay! Let's go Death boy", I cut him off and dragged him out of the cabin.
Soon, we were in the shadows.
I didn't necessarily hate shadow travelling, but it's side effects were horrible. Though we had just traveled a small distance, I felt nauseous and lied down on the ground.
I was about to thank Nico but he disappeared as soon he left me. I scoffed and got up from the ground, making my way to the beach.
The sound of the waves made me smile, and the smell of the sea water calmed me down.
This was my element, and I loved it here.
As I smacked a branch away to see the sea, my eyes landed on Leo who sat on the sand. The moon was right in front of us, with stars shining brightly above us.
I smiled and walked towards the scrawny boy.
"Hey Leo", I greeted and sat down beside him.
He looked at me and smiled, not responding back. The look in his eyes was enough to tell me he was thinking about something. And that something wasn't good.
"You wore my hoodie", he stated.
"I love this hoodie", I smiled at him.
"Hmm", he hummed and looked up at the stars.
His eyebrows suddenly turned into a frown as his eyes scanned the sky. It seemed like a memory passed in his mind, reminding him of something bitter.
Why would a beach make him sad?
Just as I thought that, I remembered he and Calypso met at an island, a beach... Maybe he was remembering his days with her on the same background.
"Are you.... still thinking of... her?", I hesitantly asked.
Leo let out a deep sigh, his eyes becoming cloudy. "No matter how much time goes by, I'll still think WHY she left me. Was I seriously THAT bad that she had to leave so fast? Did I really treat her so horribly that she broke up with me in front of the entire camp?".
I simply listened to him as he spoke, denying his words in my mind.
His voice wavered as he took in a sharp breath.
A moment of silence past through us, the sounds of the waves only being heard. I decided to break it.
"I don't really know where you came up with all these thoughts but we all know those are all lies", I started. "You were probably the best boyfriend to her, so caring and loving and considerate. You were the first one to be there for her in THOUSANDS of years. I can't really say why she broke up with you, maybe she has her own reasons. But what I know that it isn't even one that you said".
Leo looked at me, the stars shining in his eyes. He really looked pretty tonight. His hair naturally ruffled, with a small stain of grease on his cheekbone. His elfish ears poking out from his hair.
"I don't.... I don't really know what I would do without you, Y/N", he said softly.
"Haha we were meant to be", I joked looking away, a small blush appearing on my cheeks.
Leo then stood up, stretching a hand to help me up. I took it and dusted my pants as I got up.
"Let's take a walk", Leo announced and took my hand in his.
I gladly intertwined our fingers and went closer to his side, know him making the first move was very rare. I smiled by his side as we took slow steps, a comfortable silence hanging over us.
I was sure we had walked for about fifteen minutes, but I really didn't care. Being by his side alone in silence was the best thing I could wish for. Though not possible, I snuggled further into his side, making him chuckle.
I rested my chin on his shoulder and looked at his face. He was seriously very beautiful. Each curve and bump made my heart beat faster. His eyes drowned me further into the love I held for him. His nose just seemed more kissable that night. His lips twisted my stomach, building fantasies in my mind.
"Gods you're beautiful", I muttered softly.
Leo looked at me in shock and then pointed at his chest. "Me?", He asked.
I simply nodded and smiled at him. Under the moonlight, I could see his ears getting red.
"You're also very cute, señor bonito".
"Where are you getting these Spanish words from, señorita", Leo flushed.
"I've been learning", I said.
"Spanish?"
"Anything for you, baby", I winked at him.
Leo blushed agressively. "You're becoming too much like me".
I laughed heartily and walked ahead, dragging Leo with me. We walked for a few more minutes till a different atmosphere settled around us.
Our pace slowed down till we stopped and faced the sea. Our eyes lingered at the small waves coming to the shore.
It slowly dawned to that it was time.
It was time to tell Leo about my feelings.
Though I was absolutely nervous and my heart bet faster than when I faced monsters, I tugged Leo's hand to face me. He turned and tilted his head cutely.
A second went by as we just stared, but then I did it.
I kneeled down in front of him as my left hand went in my pocket while my right held his.
His eyes were wide in shock, but I didn't let that stop me.
"Leo Valdez, Son of Esperanza Valdez. I am here today, or tonight, to tell you about something important", I started. But the moment I found my flow, I let my heart control me. The love I held for Leo from the moment I laid eyes on him finally were free.
"I remember the day I had come to camp, after being rescued by Jason in my school. You were there, talking with Harley about something he wanted to know. You seemed so passionate about what you loved, and I understood that when I sneaked into the forest that night to find you in bunker 9, building. I couldn't believe how we immediately clicked after the first words we shared, and how fast I felt connected with you."
"I was heartbroken when I saw you and Calypso kiss, but that day I understood that what I felt towards you wasn't a simple crush, but true love. To see you happy with her made my day. Just to see you genuinely happy and smiling made ME genuinely happy and smiling. I never expected myself to experience such healthy love towards a person who was already dating. But the day she broke up with you was one of the worst days I'd experienced. I felt so much rage towards her for leaving you. All I could see was you crying in my arms. I hated her, Leo. But I just couldn't blame her"
"After that day I started feeling us getting closer. Not physically, but emotionally. At those times I knew the love I held for you was correct, because you never made me feel bad. You understood me in ways no one ever had. You embraced my weird self, and slowly molded into my other half. Leo, it was YOU who made me feel loved and happy. You being you made it so easy to love you back, and I know that I'll keep loving you no matter where your heart lies"
"Tonight, I don't want you to force yourself to love me back, but tonight's the night where you get to know how LOVED you are. If you don't like me back, that's really okay. But please know, that I will always stay by your side no matter way. Leo Valdez, I am absolutely in love with you. Will you please be my lover till eternity?"
Finally, as I regained control over myself, I looked up at Leo.
Tears were streaming down his face and I heard him ugly sobbing. He agressively wiped his nose with his hand as his chest rises up and down.
Worried, I got up and cupped his face. "If my speech of love was that bad, you could just say so. No need to cry", I said wiping his tears away.
His eyes locked to mine, and the next moment he was embracing. "Y/N, you have no idea what you make me feel. I really can't believe a person is capable of making me feel so... Needed. I-... You're seriously the bestest friend I've ever had", he sniffled.
Oh....
So I'm being rejected.
"I'll keep being your best friend no matter what, Leo. You're my official permanent buddy", I said making him laugh.
He pulled away from the hug and cupped my cheeks in his long hands. He smiled softly and scanned my face. "Thank you for everything, Y/N. Thank you for being their at my worst. Thank you for making me feel loved. Everytime you stood by my side, I just fell harder for you".
.....huh?
"Yes, Y/N. I love you too. And I'd love to be your lover for eternity", He spoke with a wide smile on his face.
His confession made my ears burn, my heart race against my chest. I looked at him with wide eyes.
"Is that a yes?", I asked.
Leo laughed, "Yes, it is".
I broke away from him and laughed, my own tears coming out of my eyes. Two years of loving him, and finally he was mine.
"I love you, Leo Valdez", I said.
"I love you too, Y/N", he responded.
His hand circled my waist, pulling me close to him. At the close distance, I could feel his heart beating as fast as mine was.
"Can I kiss you, mi amor?", His accent slipped out, making me blush.
I looked up at him and let myself smile. Getting up on my tip toes, I leaned in to carefully set my lips on his. A shot of electricity passed through my body, though the touch was so soft.
My eyes closed down, and Leo pressed into me. We didn't move, we just stayed like that. Lip to lip, as our love finally reached to the other. Breaking away to get breath, I looked at him again.
"I forgot to tell you, but you look very fuckable in my hoodie, Y/N", He wiggled his eyebrows.
"Really, dude? Not even five minutes since we confessed"
"You love me like that, though".
"True true".
"So....now what?", He asked looking around.
An idea sparked in my head. "I tell everyone you rejected me and then we make out at lunch in front of everyone".
"Oh I have the most perfect girlfriend".

light up the dark [XIII] - Leo Valdez x reader
wc: 2k
genre: drama, minor angst, action
warnings: minor Leo self loathing, Leo crying </3, questionable and obscure mythology usage, generally sketchy at best plotting (this outline is very old), Leo looks really fucking pretty in the snow
summary: Leo gets something important off his chest, then chases after you to make ammends. When he looks for you, he's met with soemthing entirely different than he expected, and way more than he bargained for.
song recs: pretty when you cry - lana del rey, meant to be yours - heathers obc, wasteland baby - hozier, roll up - the struts
a/n: okay we're getting to the last few parts aka where the outline gets questionable as fuck but the whole thing is hinged on the questionable parts so there's really not a way for me to change anything at this point we're all just along for the ride!! also this chapter (and maybe the next/last couple) will probably be on the shorter side bc I wasn't sure how much outline I would need to actually make a chapter so I undershot a little. the second reason is I'm burnt out lol. anyway enjoy!!

It’s safely early morning now, and people are beginning to wake up. Throughout the different rooms in the house, blankets are flipped back and bedroom doors are opened, curtains are drawn, and groggy conversation is made over face wash and toothpaste and running water. After enough time wallowing in his self loathing, Leo gets up to look for you. Being petty like that only felt gratifying and justified for a few fleeting moments. After that he just felt bad. Like, really bad. He knew what he said was probably too harsh as soon as the words left his mouth and you bolted. Gods, why can't he just be a little more patient?
He bets that Jason never would have said something like that to you, yet here he is, screwing up again. He tugs on the rest of his clothes, ending with a hoodie for the unseasonably cold weather, and leaves to find you. As he descends the stairs, a gust of freezing air washes over him. He looks for the source, and sees the front door is ajar. Snowflakes blow in, along with a few small, downy feathers that look almost pink in the diffused morning light struggling to get through the heavy dark clouds that continue to roll in.
"Morning." He hears Jason's groggy voice behind him, "You're up early.” He turns around to see Piper standing next to him, yawning. They’re wearing matching pajamas, and have matching bed head. They’re so cute together it would make Leo a little sick on any other day. Jason's hair is sticking up in every direction, and he wipes the smudges off his glasses with the hem of his shirt. Leo hasn't seen his friends since last night, when they backed him up in front of Calypso - something he hadn't been expecting.
Just the sight of them brings back a highlight reel of all the things that they said - along with the rest of his friends - in his defense. That paired with how much he wishes he could see you right now, make sure you’re okay, is enough to have tears welling in the corners of his eyes. Sure, what he said might have been coming from feeling very justifiably upset at the way he’s been treated until now, but that’s not your fault. He shouldn’t have lashed out at you like he did.
“You okay?” Piper asks, a note of concern in her voice. He’s clearly not, and she wants to know why right now. He takes in a shaky breath and squeezes his eyes shut. After a few moments, he tells them what happened -  or at least he tries to. He barely gets out about half the story before he stops, really not wanting to cry more than he feels like he’s about to. Jason and Piper share a look. It’s so early and they’re barely awake, but that’s not going to stop them from trying to help him. In their drowsy stupor, they hear the worst in his fumbled explanation.
They share a regretful look. What they piece together is really disappointing, but they can’t say they’re totally surprised. They definitely are disappointed, they were really starting to root for you - especially compared to Calypso. It’s not your quick wit or sharp tongue that surprises them, it’s that you directed it at Leo. They’re not sure exactly what words were exchanged, just that Leo is really hurting over this, which is the one thing they don’t want. To make things worse, he’s really worried about you. They hear footsteps behind them.
“What’s going on?” This time it’s Annabeth’s groggy morning voice, and she’s closely followed by Percy, who looks like he’d rather still be asleep.
“They got into a fight,” Jason says, trying to bring them up to speed - granted, he doesn’t have much more information than they do now. Leo lets out a frustrated sigh, trying to squeeze away his tears and pressing his hands into his face. He shakes his head before his eyes land back on the door. The wind blew it a little further open, and he can see your footprints make long, panicked strides in the growing snow on the ground.
“I-” he chuckles, weepily, “I have to go find her…” He’s already descending the stairs when his friends start to protest. It’s so early and they’re all barely awake, the last thing they want is for him to jump into something if they’re not awake enough to help him out yet.
“Wait,” Piper starts, “maybe you should stay here.”
“Yeah, maybe we should talk about this before you, you know, rush into anything.” Percy agrees.
“Or make a stupid decision for a manipulative bitch and get nothing in return.”
Everyone stops dead in their tracks as Calypso’s voice echoes through the hall. A collective sense of being found by the T-Rex in Jurassic Park passes over everyone, and the room stills. Only Calypso could make a room full of people with ADHD stand totally still.
“She’s gone. Good riddance.” Calypso says, without a sliver of concern in her voice. “I mean it was just a matter of time before that little whore finally showed her true colors, and-”
“FOR GODS’ SAKE CALYPSO! CAN YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP?! PLEASE?!”
The room falls silent again, and all eyes turn to Leo. He looks exhausted and exasperated and completely and utterly done. She stares at him, mouth agape, refusing to believe he’s talking to her like that.
“Excuse-” She starts, but before she can finish, he keeps going. He’s not going to let her steamroll him, not anymore.
“I mean, really! We can’t get through one goddamn day without you ruining something. Do you have to work at being like this?” He demands rhetorically, “Cause it seems like you must work pretty fucking hard to be so miserable all the time!”
No one could have ever predicted this. No one could have imagined that Leo would ever be the one to put Calypso in her place like this.
“I am not-”
“No, no, no! I don’t give a shit!” He roars with an exasperated laugh, “I don’t want to hear any more of your bullshit or whining or constant complaining! I’ve had enough. We’ve all had enough, so just…” He laughs, trailing off as he realizes that he’s never going to get through to her. His only option is to get away from her. Or, he supposes, get her away from him.
“Get out.”
It’s silent again. All the commotion brought the last few people out of their rooms, so Nico, Will, Frank, and Hazel all heard most of what he had to say. They all stand there in shock as Calypso spews some more bullshit about not needing to take this and storms back into her room, presumably to pack her shit and leave. There’s a sense of giddy elation when she leaves. They have been waiting so, so long for him to really be able to stand up to her, to refuse being treated as shitty as she treats him. Percy makes some sassy remark behind her, and Piper is the first to congratulate him. Or she would have been, if he had stuck around long enough to celebrate. Piper jogs half way down the stairs, getting a glimpse of his dark, curly hair contrasting sharply with the snow. He’s out of the door before she can call his name.
Leo barely registers how strange this whole snow storm is. It’s supposed to be spring, it should be ambiently warm with little flowers blooming, not look like a trailer for Frozen. In spite of how weird the weather is, he doesn’t care about that right now. He just wants to find you. He tracks through the snow rapidly accumulating on the ground, following your footprints until he loses track of them, getting lost or covered up by what is quickly turning into a blizzard. He shivers, pulling his jacket around himself tighter. He's a Houston boy, he's not prepared for all this wintery bullshit. He still loves snow, he thinks it's one of the prettiest, most magical things in the world, but it's not pretty when he’s worried about you being outside in it.
Finally, he sees a figure in dark clothes shrouded in the blindingly white snowy landscape standing at the edge of the yard. He runs over, calling your name. He continues trudging through the snow, and when he’s close enough you turn around. Except it’s not you he’s met with. He stops dead in his tracks, stomach dropping as he struggles to remember her name after so many years. After a moment he remembers.
“Khione?!” He demands. He’s about to ask what the fuck she’s doing here. Before he can, she steps closer, lifting his chin up with her finger.
“Well, well, well…” she says, and Leo’s surprised that he can hear her perfectly over the roaring wind of the storm. The storm she probably created, he realizes. “You are just as easy on the eyes as I remember you being.”
A sickening chill runs down his spine at her words. Before he can even think of a reaction, she continues.
“I’m sure you’re curious as to what brings me here.” She states, walking around him, eyes never leaving him. He feels like he’s being circled by a shark. “Well, you’re a smart boy, I’m sure you’ve heard the stories of how I got two gods to fall in love with me.”
He hasn’t, but now doesn’t seem like a good time to bring that up.
“Poseidon, I had wrapped around my finger.” She chuckles. “And Apollo…” The laughter evaporates, and her smile disappears, replaced by something more bitter.
“Apollo…” She stares into space, then her gaze hardens. “Apollo broke my heart.” She spits, turning away from him as she continues.
“I swore I would never love again, I’d never let myself be fooled by a beautiful man with warm eyes and charming smile. And then,” she whips around to him, her gaze dangerous. “You showed up.”
She walks closer to him, and Leo retreats a few steps on instinct.
“You showed up, and were tantalizingly close, almost in my grasp.” Her expression grows cold. “Then you rejected me.”
His stomach drops.
“I tried to talk some sense into Apollo, get him to see what he’s missing, but he’s too much of a fool to see the prize in front of him.” She spits before flashing another dangerous grin. “But I got my revenge on him, you can be sure of that. He stole my heart, I stole something of his right back.” Leo’s brow furrows, trying to piece together what her words really mean, trying to connect the dots between this and everything else that’s going on. She lets out a crazed chuckle.
“But I got my revenge.” She continues, getting even closer to him. She sizes him up, glowering at him predatorily. She chuckles darkly, and Leo sees something unhinged deep in her eyes starting to rise to the surface.
“And now, you will be my lover,” she laughs maniacally, “IN AN ETERNAL WINTER WASTELAND!”
Her laughter reverberates through the swirling snow, and Leo’s stomach drops. Chills creep over his skin, but it’s not just from the cold.
“Okay!” He yells over the howling wind, as thick snowflakes collect on his eyelashes. “You are seriously in-fucking-sane!” He’s not sure she can even hear him, but it doesn’t matter. He’s not letting her get away with this, he’s not going to let her turn the world into a giant snow globe forever. He pulls his arms away from being wrapped up tight around himself and holds out his hands. They’re stiff from the cold, but that doesn’t stop him from summoning two huge balls of fire. They engulf him all the way up to the elbows, thawing him out a little. He takes a deep breath, steadies himself, and prepares to fight. Or more specifically, kick her frigid ass.

because i love you — [hoo boys headcanons]
summary: your "thing" with the hoo boys!
author's note: in honor of the pjo series coming out today,,have this rlly rlly short draft from earlier this year! xoxo
Tumblr media
percy jackson — doodling on him
“give me your hand.”
“yes ma’am.”
minutes pass as you doodle gods know what onto percy’s hand. you always resort to this whenever the camp head counselor's meeting begins late—which seems to be every meeting—and giving percy "tattoos" certainly kills time. last meeting, you drew a can of beans and the time before that, was a bouquet of tulips. so honestly his guess being a pair of socks this time isn’t too far of a reach.
“okay, done,” you release his hand, a proud smile gracing your features, “cute right?”
he quirks a brow upon seeing the drawing, “is that…” percy turns his head to the side, gaining better perspective, “is that a flying fish?”
“wow, you’re good,” you say, giving him a nod of approval, “although, last time you did say that my can of beans looked like a roll of toilet paper…”
your boyfriend throws his hands in the air, “in my defense, you used a shitty pen so it was hard to tell.”
“whatever.”
jason grace — sewing your initials on his clothes
“hi love,” jason says, plopping down beside you on the couch. you give him a bright smile as he places a gentle kiss on your head, “almost done?”
nodding proudly, you hold up his pair of jeans to show him your work: your initials sewn onto a corner of his back pocket, “yup, just finished actually! what do you think of the color? i think you bought the thread for me on our second date. but i totally forgot i had it until i went digging in my supply box.”
a grin plasters itself on jason’s face as he nods his head in realization, “i knew the color seemed familiar. i remember wondering why a tiny spool of thread was so expensive. but it’s perfect, i love it,” he kisses your cheek, “all my friends are gonna be so jealous that they don’t have their girlfriends’ initials sewn onto their clothes.”
you laugh as you imagine jason vehemently bragging about his jeans to all his friends, “tell them i’m charging $50 if they want me to do theirs,” you wink.
“we’d make more than the stolls’ and their smuggling business if we did that,” he laughs, admiring your work once more. who knew that having your initials on his pants would have such an affect on him, “also, can you do my sweaters and my other jeans?"
you raise a brow, "i might have to start charging you at this point."
leo valdez — impromptu fashion shows
“wow!” you clap enthusiastically, “your outfit even puts paris fashion week outfits to shame!” yes, because a rainbow checkered crop top with a humongous green tutu and a pink boa paired with insanely skinny stilettos beats any and all high fashion runway outfits, “now, leo valdez, can you give us a few words about your new clothing line? and possibly a bit about what it’s like to be so amazingly talented?” you inquire, raising an invisible microphone to his mouth.
leo oh-so humbly bows and rises with a proud grin, “thank you, thank you, but i honestly must give all credit towards my beautiful muse, y/n, she’s the inspiration behind my new line. and about being so talented, it really is such hard work to be this naturally gifted.”
“ooh, do tell about this ‘y/n.’ i’ve never heard of her but she does sound absolutely gorgeous!” you exclaim, keeping up with the act.
your boyfriend nods firmly, “oh yes, she’s very, very, very beautiful,” adding a playful wink, “but i must say, she has the worst morning breath i’ve ever encountered!”
your smile drops and you squint your eyes, “i’m going to choke you with that stupid ugly boa if you don’t take that back right now.”
“uh ma’am,” leo backs up nervously, clutching his boa, “i’m going to have to call security if you threaten me again.”
"i'm seriously going to kill you."

Give me Percabeth pre-HoO. Give me Percy driving after school to go see Annabeth, and staying in her dorm way too late. Give me Annabeth being genuinely happy for one of the first times in her life, all because this seaweed brain stole her hat and made her kiss him three times to get in. Give me Percabeth having a weekend sleepover at Sally Jackson’s apartment watching movies and stealing kisses that last a little too long. Give me Percy taking Annabeth out on their first proper date where he’s super nervous and slightly awkward, but it’s perfect because they’re together. Give me promises under the night sky that they’ll be together forever, and kisses that make their hearts ache in a way they’ve never felt before. And then give me Annabeth crying with Sally because Percy’s been gone for two whole weeks without a single word.

I personally think that all the PJO guys would be lowkey losers… ESPECIALLY LEO VALDEZ, LUKE, AND PERCY. THEY JUST GIVE OFF THAT “PRETTY BUT NO GAME” VIBE. THEIR VERSION OF RIZZ IS JUST STUPID.
I THINK THEY WOULD HAVE GIRLS SWOONING OVER THEM YET THEY REMAIN LOYAL TO THAT ONE GIRL WHO SPILLED GRAPE JUICE ON THEM AND NOW THEY HAVD A PUPPY DOG CRUSH ON HER

capture the flag - leo valdez
Request: nope Pairing:  leo valdez x apollo!reader Summary:  during capture the flag, no one gets stuck in leo's traps and he wants to find out why Warnings:  none Word count:  800 A/N: this has been sitting in my drafts for a while and now that I'm back in my pjo era time to finish it! enjoy :)
capture the flag is always fun. it's a nice way for people to train together while it feels like a game. even though sometimes people get too competitive.
it gives leo the chance to litter the forest with traps, and to test new inventions. of course, he could test them in the bunker or on his friends. but this is the real deal. no one knows where the traps are, how many there are. it's the perfect conditions to test them.
he's made a new batch of them but for some reason none of the traps work.
whenever he goes to check on them, they're all disabled. no one's activated them, or he would have found a fellow camper near one.
and leo is absolutely sure he activated them. they didn't blow up so there's nothing wrong with them.
and yet they're disabled.
rather than trying to capture the flag, he decides to hide in the bushes near one of his traps to see what - or who - is disabling them.
he listens to the sounds of the woods around him and pulls stuff out of his tool bel two mindlessly build little machines.
after a while, he spots movement out of the corner of his eye.
whoever it is moves quietly and gracefully. so definitely not an ares kid, leo concludes.
the person slowly walks over to leo's trap, careful where they put their feet down on the forrest floor.
leo watches as they walk around the trap, examining it. he shifts to get a better look at who it is.
he frowns slightly. he would have expected someone from the hermes cabin. maybe piper because he's spent a lot of time trying to explain his machines to her.
but he didn't expect it to be a daughter of apollo.
to be fair, leo thought the apollo cabin didn't know anything about traps or machines in general. their skills were mostly archery, medicine and music. not traps built by a hephaestus kid.
leo's eyes follow your hand movements as you carefully prod around the trap. surely you wouldn't be able to- and you disabled it.
smiling to yourself, you straighten your back and us your foot to slide the now useless trap aside.
when you turn around, you hear leaves rustle behind you.
instinctively, you knock an arrow on your bow and turn on your heel.
you are met by leo, who is frantically waving his hands in front of his face.
'don't shoot, don't shoot! I come in peace!' he yells.
you lower your bow. 'leo! gods, I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare you!'
'that's alright.' says leo, lowering his hands. 'I was the one hiding behind you.'
you frown. 'why were you hiding anyway? usually you like to be in the middle of the action.' you say.
'can't help the fact people start fighting over me wherever I go.' says leo, making you chuckle.
'yeah, right, valdez. as if anyone could come near you with the amount of traps you're setting.' you say.
'speaking of which.' says leo, walking over to his trap and picking it up to examine it. 'how did you know where the kill switch was on this?'
you shrug. 'that's a tactical secret I can't reveal.' you say. 'for future capture the flag purposes.'
'or you just got lucky.'
'23 times?'
'yeah, that seems unlikely.'
you smile. 'there's a window in the roof of bunker nine.' you say. 'it's actually a two way mirror. it doesn't let any light through. gives me a perfect view of your workspace, though.'
'so the tactical secret is spying.' says leo.
'can't win if you don't play a little dirty every now and then. plus it's cool to see all the stuff you create.'
you shoulder your bow. 'good luck activating all of the traps again.' you say. 'I need to get back to my cabin.'
you start to walk toward the noise your fellow campers are making, to see if your team is winning and how you can help.
'hey!'
you turn around to see leo is still standing in the clearing with the trap in his hands.
'if you want to, I could show you how to make these? then you will be able to do more than just disable them.' he says.
you smile at him, you've always liked leo.
but you are surprised, you know leo is kind of protective of bunker 9 and usually only Hephaestus kids go inside. it must be a huge deal for someone from another cabin to be invited into the bunker.
and Leo wants you here.
'sure.' you say. 'I'd like that. but first we have to steal your flag.'
'oh no, you won't.' says leo.
with one last smile, you disappear into the woods, leaving leo to reactivate his trap before coming after you.

warnings: mentions of nightmares,, super old writing so proceed with cringe warning
requested: no
a/n: i wrote this in quarantine, early 2021. i lowkey predicted the future w this fic bc i was obsessed w the colour maroon at the time and made y/n wear a maroon coloured taylor swift shirt… never guessing that she would release a song called maroon?? so yeah, fun fact <3
I sat bolt upright in bed, my head pounding. It took me what seemed like forever to calm down, even thought it was likely to have only been a handful of moments. I forced myself to steady my breath, and realise I was safe. My hands were tightly clutched around my sheets, and that helped to ground my thoughts a little.
I looked around my familiar cabin and took a deep breath. My fairy lights shined softly on the walls, making me feel cozy and warm. I had specifically requested fairy lights. They'd always been so reassuring and calming to me, what for I had no clue. But Leo had been all to ready to equip me with fairy lights in my cabin, so I was glad I had asked him for them. They always helped with the nightmares.
I carefully slipped out from under the covers and put on my sneakers. I fumbled through my chest drawer and pulled out a black zip-up jacket I had stolen from Leo, and yanked that on too. I had black leggings and a maroon Taylor Swift T-shirt on, so I felt warm enough to go outside, where the freezing Greek air would surely be uncomfortable.
I needed to clear my head, and get some fresh air, and talk to someone. All that would happen on deck, where there was bound to be at least one crew member on duty. Besides, Leo never went to bed, it seemed. He would most certainly be up there, and I needed to see my best friend right now.
I tiptoed past the other demigods' cabin doors, trying not to wake anyone up. I had no wish to anger anybody who slept with a sword constantly by their side.
I crept upstairs and came out onto the deck, the moon covering the world with a ghostly layer of magical light. I loved the moon. If Artemis, the moon goddess, wasn't a maiden goddess and actually had demigod kids, I'd've given anything to be her daughter. She was definitely one of the best Greek goddesses.
As I'd suspected, Leo was still awake, even though it was probably at least three in the morning by now. He stood with his back to me, tinkering with something on the ships' control board. I stood there for a few seconds, biting my lip and staring at his figure in the dim light, debating whether to bother him or not. In the end, I decided to walk over.
"Hey," I said quietly over Leo's shoulder.
He flinched, looking up at me with startled dark eyes. "Jeez, carinó, don't scare a man like that!”
My eyes widened in sudden alarm. "I'm sorry!"
Leo managed to crack a smile for me. "No, it's fine. Hey."
He turned back to the controls. "I'm just turning off the sonar and switching to radar. We're going airborne soon. Percy's gone downstairs, and it's Jason's turn to watch."
I nodded. "Okay." I knew what he was doing. I didn't dare one but for that kind of information, it was useless to me and I usually forgot it in about four seconds. Leo did it because he knew I adored listening to his voice. His accent was so calming to me, just like fairy lights and Taylor Swift songs were.
I loved him so much for doing that for me. I was so lucky to have this boy in my life.
There was silence for a few minutes. That was the way it usually was with Leo and I. We were comfortable with whatever. If we wanted to talk, we did talk, about everything and anything. But if one of us felt like being quiet, that worked too. It was just nice to be with each other, together.
We didn't have to be talking to enjoy each other's company, and I loved that about him too.
"I had a nightmare..." I said at last, drawing out the words, as if me saying them slower would make it harder for Leo to understand them.
Leo's eyes immediately snapped to meet mine. "You did?" His voice flooded with concern. "Are you okay? Was it that same one, or different? Was it a vision, or —?"
I laughed lightly. "Calm down... I..." My smile dropped as I reflected on my nightmare. "It was..."
I shuddered. "Um, it was bad. I just... I just wanted to be around someone. I didn't want to be alone in my cabin."
Leo nodded. He reached for my hand and squeezed it gently. His touch sent a tingle up my spine. Leo didn't really do touching; I think he was wary around it with his fire powers, so it was nice, but a little strange, to hold his hand.
"Come on," Leo said. "I'm done here. Festus will guard until Jason gets his lazy butt out of bed. I want to show you something."
I managed a smile. "Okay, Repair Boy."
"Hey, don't call me that!"
"Why not?" I reasoned. "You call me carinó, and I don't even know what that means."
Leo's eyes glittered with mirth, as if he was sharing an inside joke with himself. "Well... fine then."
He led me by the hand downstairs. We passed a bleary-eyed Jason on the steps, who nodded mutely at us and kept going. Hopefully he wakes up enough to fight off any monsters who decides our ship looked tasty.
Leo led me past the cabin doors, careful to walk quietly. When he started down the second level of steps, I raised my eyebrows.
"I've never been down here," I whispered.
"I know," he whispered back. A nervous, but excited shiver ran down my back.
Leo pushed open the first door on the left. Inside, an intricate engine (at least I think it was an engine) took up most of the room. Pipes and cords ran absolutely everywhere, winding around and around each other.
Random work tools rolled along the floor every time the ship listed sideways, spanners and hammers and screws going everywhere. The engine hummed softly, filling the air with a pleasant kind of feeling. I instantly understood why Leo liked this place. I know he often spent a lot of time in here, and I could now see why. It was exactly his sort of room.
"Wow, Leo," I said. "You built all this? You're amazing."
Leo blushed. "Thanks, carinó."
I glanced at him with a smile, and he looked confused. "What?"
"Nothing," I said slowly. "I'm just really glad you're my best friend." I gave his hand a squeeze.
Leo looked away. "Uh, great, well..."
"You wanted to show me something?" I prompted.
"Oh yeah!" He pulled me along as he walked to a cabinet against one wall. He opened one of the drawers, dug through it, closes it, opened another one, and smiled triumphantly.
"Close your eyes, carinó," he told me.
I did so immediately. After all, I trusted Leo completely. Okay, maybe not with shaving foam or my wallet, but for anything else? Of course.
Leo suddenly laced his fingers through mine. "Open them," he said, his voice low and kinda gravelly.
I slowly opened my eyes. Leo held out his palm.
On it, a beautiful necklace lay. A beautiful, incredibly intricate flower was made out of see-through gold, hung on a thin gold chain.
I gasped softly. "Oh, Leo..." I didn't know what to say. "It's... it's beautiful. Oh, it's the most beautiful thing I've ever seen."
"It's not the most beautiful thing I've ever seen," Leo muttered. "I mean, uh, thanks. I made it for you."
I threw my arms around his neck and hugged him. "It's amazing. You're amazing. Thank you."
Leo pulled away, laughing a little. "Okay, okay. Here. Want me to put it on for you?"
I nodded. He carefully stepped behind me and fastened the clasp around my neck. The necklace laid on my chest, and I gazed at it for a moment, before smiling up at Leo.
"Thank you so much, Leo," I said. "It's the best thing I've ever received in my life."
"Really?" Leo seemed surprised. "Well, let's see how many times I can break that record."
Before I knew what was happening, Leo stepped forward, cupped his hand around my cheek and gently pressed his mouth to mine. He only kissed me for a second, moved backwards, red as a beet, and opened his mouth, stammering, "Oh, I just... did that. I— I'm sorry —"
I smiled dryly. "Don't you dare be sorry." I stood on tiptoe and kissed him again, longer this time.
I felt like I was on fire. I wasn't, and neither was Leo (thankfully), but my entire body was hot all over. I don't know how long we would've stayed there, but someone decided enough was enough.
"Hey, Leo, are you — holy Hera!" Jason stumbled into the doorframe. "Uh..."
Leo and I broke apart. His face was a red as mine felt. "Oh! Hi Jason." Leo grinned. "What's up?"
Jason pursed his lips. "I... uh, I forgot. What the Hades are you two doing?"
"Making out," Leo replied.
"Leo!" I exclaimed. "I wouldn’t put it that way! That’s so… crude sounding.”
"Oh. Okay. We weren’t doing that then," Leo agreed. "What's wrong, J-man?"
Jason looked confused. "Um, well... we're nearly to Athens. None of us can work out your controls, Leo, so you need to come and uh, work your magic."
Leo nodded. "We'll be right there."
Jason disappeared up the hall. Leo and I glanced at each other.
"So?" Leo asked, shoving his hands into his pockets.
"So... what?" I asked back.
"Did I break my record?" He grinned cheekily. "Of the best things you've ever received?"
I blushed. "I guess so. Yeah. Yeah you did, Repair Boy."
"Good," Leo said, grabbing my hand again and pulling me towards the deck. "Now, let's go save the world, together."
