A Comprehensive Timeline for NWAACO
This timeline will cover pretty much everything that’s happened in canon so far and absolutely will not line up with canon Grishaverse ages/age differences/birthdays. There shouldn’t be any spoilers for people who’ve read everything, but I’ll still put it under a cut just in case. Typical NWAACO warnings apply. Enjoy!
35 ADD (After Dark Days): Per Haskell (District 6) wins the Hunger Games at age 18
37 ADD: Seeder Norris (District 11) wins the Hunger Games at age 18
42 ADD: Jarl Brum (District 2) wins the Hunger Games at age 18
July 47 ADD: Magnus Opjer (District 4) wins the Hunger Games at age 18
October 47 ADD: Zoya Nazyalensky is born
April 49 ADD: Nikolai Lantsov is born
There are only two times of year where Nikolai can be concieved and so only two possible birth months for him. I went with a July conception/April birthday because he felt like a spring baby
yes this means Nikolai is almost two years younger than Zoya when I think he is her age/maybe slightly older in Grishaverse canon. Look...it’s just not going to line up. Sorry
July 49 ADD: David Kostyk is born
But Erin, you say, David is the Victor of the 68th Games! He’d be 19 then, he would be too old!
To which I say--good catch! David’s birthday is actually in late July; as we’ll see in the David one shot, he turned 19 in the Arena. It was a very terrible birthday
March 50 ADD: Genya Safin is born
January 53 ADD: Leoni Hill is born
February 53 ADD: Jordie Rietveld is born
June 53 ADD: Alys Meijer is born
no, I didn’t intend for all the older sibling characters to be the same age but it ended out working out that way so I ran with it. It’s an intentional parallel now
July 53 ADD: Genna Pieters (District 6) wins the Hunger Games at age 17
55 ADD: Jan Van Eck becomes president, Aditi Hilli and Colm Fahey marry
yes, the age gap between Van Eck and Alys is really gross. Trust me, I know
January 56 ADD: Matthias Helvar is born
September 56 ADD: Nina Zenik is born
November 56 ADD: Kaz Brekker is born, Lara Rietveld dies
March 57 ADD: Hanne Brum is born
April 57 ADD: Jesper Fahey is born
June 57 ADD: Inej Ghafa is born
May 58 ADD: Wylan Van Eck is born
60 ADD: Paul and Alyssa Zenik die, Nina Zenik is left orphaned
May 63 ADD: Sara Helvar is born
July 64 ADD: Zoya Nazyalensky (District 8) wins the Hunger Games at age 16; Dominik Vertov (District 2) dies
March 66 ADD: Tomas Brekker dies
April 66 ADD: Marya Hendriks dies; Jordie Rietveld dies
I had to steal the idea from @oneofthewednesdays that Marya and Jordie ‘died’ around the same time
March 67 ADD: Stefan and Katrin Helvar die; Matthias and Sara Helvar are orphaned
July 67 ADD: Enobaria Robinson (District 2) wins the Games at age 18
July 68 ADD: David Kostyk (District 8) wins the Hunger Games at age 19; Aditi Hilli is executed
70 ADD: Nikolai Lantsov is recruited to the rebel movement
July 71 ADD: The events of One for Sorrow take place
July-December 72 ADD: The events of Bright Morning Stars take place
July 73 ADD: The events of Sometimes I Wish for Falling take place
July 74 ADD: The events of Gold Rush take place

A South African court has thrown out a case brought against the multinational mining company Anglo American on behalf of 140,000 Zambian women and children, who allege they have suffered lead poisoning from one of its mines. The lawsuit, one of Africa’s largest class-action cases, was filed in October 2020, accused Anglo American of negligence over its alleged failure to prevent widespread lead poisoning in the Zambian town of Kabwe, where its South African subsidiary is alleged to have played a key role in running a large mine from 1925 until 1974. Lawyers representing the women and children from the South African firm Mbuyisa Moleele and the UK-based Leigh Day, which made its name bringing human rights and personal injury cases, said they would appeal against the judgment. The Kabwe lead mine – formerly known as the Broken Hill mine – reportedly contributed to extensive environmental pollution in towns and communities living in the vicinity. Medical studies have shown children from Kabwe have record-high levels of lead in their blood. Lead poisoning can cause health problems ranging from learning difficulties to infertility, brain damage and, in some cases, death. Anglo American has denied responsibility for the lead poisoning. [...] In a 126-page judgment delivered on 15 December, Justice Leonie Windell, of the Johannesburg high court, said: “The applicants seek permission to advance an untenable claim that would set a grave precedent. “The precedent is that a business could be held liable half a century after its activities have ceased, to generations not yet born, as a result of being tested against future knowledge and standards unknown at the time.” The lawsuit was filed in South Africa because Zambia does not allow class-action cases and lawyers are not permitted to act on a contingency-fee basis. [...] Last year, David Boyd, special rapporteur on human rights and the environment, referred to Kabwe as one of the world’s most notorious “sacrifice zones”, where local people were left to suffer the consequences of pollution they did not cause.

Needing to kiss to hide from bad guys - number 17 kiss for leonie x felix?
I'm realizing I've written this prompt for a Felix ship a few times now. It's funny how easy it is to put him in these situations. Also thank you, anon, I love this rare pair <3
[other mermay prompts]
--
Leonie was in the market when she heard the whispers. She saw the men herself, striking out with thick hooks and ropes and nets. Her blood ran cold even before she heard the murmurs around her.
"... spotted a mermaid nearby... Foul things... Goddess bless these men and their..."
Tucking away her money pouch, Leonie scrambled away.
Half an hour later, she scrambled back toward town, this time carrying a confused looking merman with dark hair.
"I could've fought them off!" Felix snapped as Leonie skid down a grassy hill. She heard the group of hunters shouting not far behind them and was cursing herself for not thinking to bring something to cover Felix's tail. It would have to be enough that Leonie's bright hair was obscured by a hood. They wouldn't know it was the tanner's daughter that had napped their catch.
"If you had escaped, they would've just got in their boats and chased you," Leonie said. "You're done for once they get a good look at you."
"So what's your plan?"
"Hide you."
"How?"
"Working on it."
Felix grumbled but tightened his hold on Leonie's neck as the sounds of the hunters grew louder again. His tail, midnight blue and speckled with amber, twitched as if aching to swim away.
On top of the hunters at their heels, there was the countdown in Leonie's head to consider. Being Felix's human friend all these months had given her a pretty good idea how long he could survive without water. And that time was ticking away with every step.
Forcing away panic, Leonie pushed into the first storehouse she saw. It was cluttered with crates and barrels. Nets tangled beyond saving were piled in a corner, and rusted tools along one wall were covered in dust. Abandoned storehouse. Perfect.
Leonie placed Felix on a crate and began looking around, quickly locating a threadbare blanket. "What are you doing?" Felix hissed. "They saw a human run this way, they'll check all the buildings on the edge of town first!"
"I know, I know, I know." Leonie threw the blanket over Felix's tail. "Stop moving. If they come in here, follow my lead."
Felix scoffed. "You didn't have a plan six seconds ago. Now you have a lead to follow?"
Leonie shushed him and strained to listen. The crunch of boots on dirt was getting louder, angry voices growing close. Leonie watched the door, hand on Felix's shoulder, feeling him tense as footsteps stopped just outside.
A breath before the door flew open, Leonie pressed her mouth to Felix's.
To his credit, he didn't fumble or push her away. In fact he leaned into the kiss with an ease Leonie wouldn't have expected. He was normally so jumpy when she got too close-- she had assumed he just disliked physical contact. But the way Felix's hand rested on her hip and his head angled to soften the kiss told Leonie she had assumed incorrectly.
"They could be hiding in-- eh?"
Felix pulled back from Leonie, aiming his best glare at the men who had burst into the storehouse. An unnatural glow lit his eyes but the men were too flustered to notice. They grunted excuses and apologies before turning around again, leaving the storehouse door open in their hasty retreat.
Leonie remained in Felix's light hold for a few heartbeats. That glare had yet to leave his face, and Leonie found herself fascinated by the glow. Though his eyes were dark amber, Leonie was reminded of the ocean-- of the copper light cast on the water when the sun sat low in the sky, just before night truly enveloped your boat and torches in town were the only way to find shore again.
Then Felix looked down at her, and Leonie shook those thoughts away. "That did it," she stated.
"Not your worst plan," Felix admitted, his hand sliding off her hip.
"We need to find you water, and a new place to hide."
He hummed in agreement and wrapped his arms around her neck. "Let's get going, then."
Before, in panic, Leonie had scooped Felix up without thought. Now her heart gave a lurch as she held up close again. She forced herself to think about how badly he needed water, how much trouble they were still in. Even in the face of all that-- his arms around her neck and his breath on her cheek were pretty damn distracting.
Standing straighter, Leonie ran out the door, darting in the opposite direction of the hunters.

NonNG+ Maddening Run Verdant Wind Route - Blood of the Eagle and Lion (and Deer)
Sometimes you just have to trust the coin flip - like I did when dealing with Dimitri, who can counter-attack from any distance and can instantly kill your strongest units in the process.
Drama and war crimes continue as we take on Dimitri and Edelgard once more on Gronder Field.
Highlights below:
Here is the team I brought and how I used them:
Brought along Great Knight Sylvain to tank Dimitri's cavalry units coming from the rear, since they will one-shot any mages who are not across the bridge. Also used to tank monsters along the way to Edelgard. Greatly helped by the Seiros Shield.
Trickster Byleth w/ Rapier+ to deal with the heavy units on the hill. Foul Play was also used to switch places with other units as needed - usually to transport units in danger to safety or to send more effective units to given location.
Wyvern Lord Hilda who is carrying Freikugel but prefers to use her humble Mace+ instead. Used to gambit stun the Kingdom forces and crack open heavy units like nuts. Has Alert Stance+ and Evasion Ring and so can blink tank like it's no one's business.
Barbarossa Claude with Critical Ring). The reason I give Hilda the highly effective Ashes and Dust gambit instead is so that Claude can quickly follow up to Enclose units that are not stunned. As such, they are usually on crowd-control duty.
In particular, Claude was able to deal with Ingrid in two turns this way - Enclosed on the first and crit on the next. It had to be done.
With Dimitri, it was a complete gamble, based on the screenshots on top. But given that he was going to one-shot every last one of us if not stopped, Claude had by far the best chances with a 54 to crit.
Claude, who had a lot to do on this map, also had the honor of completely disrespecting Hubert with a ballista crit.
Tumblr media
Poor Hubert. He's had a terrible run. But there's always Enbarr, which is coming up in a few maps.
Sniper Petra who has Hunter's Volley and also Lethality from her time spent as an Assassin - first used to deal with Imperial Fliers and then to help untangle the furball of Kingdom and Imperial infantry units.
Bow Knight Leonie with The Inexhaustible and an Accuracy Ring to help clean up the cavalry units tanked by Sylvain and the swordmaster units stunned by Hilda.
Gremory Lysithea with Thyrsus to melt down cavalry and heavy units. Her adjutant is Lorenz - I like to imagine that they fight over / take turns / share Thyrsus between them.
Dancer Marianne with Blutfang to refresh turns, provide support, and do extra damage where needed.
Bishop Linhardt to keep everyone healthy and warp Felix further up the hill.
Speaking of whom, War Master Felix has Brawl Avo+20 as a result of mastering War Monk and so can blink tank right next to Hilda. Was able to take on the hill solo including dealing with the Petra and Bernie clones. Since he has Healing Focus, getting temporarily stuck on a burning hill was no problem.
For dealing with Edelgard, I used Stride on the group in preparation for a swarm. Felix had other plans and took her on solo. Sometimes you just have to gamble for those crits and crest proc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
... All in all, the Kingdom army is the main problem of this map. The Bernie Ballista will purposefully silence and heavily damage your mages so will be tempted to take the hill. While this can be done, killing too many Imperial guards right off the bat will trigger Dimitri's rampage early. You want to get your fragile units well across the bridge before then, because the Sylvain clone + mounted units have the Passage ability, meaning they can slip past any unit to get to your squishy mages. Cross the bridge, leave behind your best tank, and immediately have a plan to deal with Ingrid who will charge in to greet you.
Don't be afraid to use gambits on the Kingdom forces as needed. Dimitri, in particular, cannot be gambit stunned.
Once you have dealt with the Kingdom army, the rest of the map should be a bit more straightforward. It helps to know well ahead the problems that will arise and have a plan to deal with them as they come.
Good luck!

Scarlet Blaze Ch 6
Onto Ch 6. Spoilers beneath the cut.
STORY
Edelgard: Invades everyone. Everyone: Turns against her. Edelgard: Surprised Pikachu face. Like, seriously.....
Wow, you mean these people don't want Edelgard conquering them? Shocking.
Poor Petra. Having to save the man who brutalized her country. And Caspar is so dense, saying that right by her.
Hubert making it clear Edelgard intends to rule the Alliance lol.
LAMO, Monica calling it "listen to reason" instead of exactly what it is - a brutal, violent, bloody conquest.
I had Shez express hesitation and he's wondering why friends have to sometimes fight each other. WELL - 👀👀👀 I think we know, Edelgard.
MAP
ANOTHER facility?? What on earth . . .
Petra feels conflicted about Count Berlitz. After her underwhelming map dialogue last time, this is an improvement.
Aww, Dimitri told Ashe to prioritize living over loyalty? Ashe seems pretty miserable right now. Hope he gets better.
Bernie is terrified of getting surrounded by enemies. That just makes the burning death on the hill so much worse.
That's rich. There's a merchant worried about being invaded. Maybe . . . don't invade other people first?
LAMO a noble defected from the Alliance because he thought Edelgard was more noble-friendly in her ruling than Claude.
Sounds like Dorothea's conflicted about the war.
SIDE BATTLES
Anna running around the map and setting up random shops is pretty neat.
LAMO, Edelgard thought Glouster's betrayal may have come from TWSITD.
How can anyone claim Edelgard never really meant to conquer everyone when you have them over here wishing Claude never took charge of the Alliance and it was chaos over there?
That conversation was villain behavior 101 lol.
Feels bad. Having to attack Leonie. Then Judith.
I thought Shez became short, but really Anna was just standing on a slope.
SHEZ & MANUELA C SUPPORT
So Shez stumbles on Manuela talking in her sleep about love gone bad.
Manuela's mad that even in her dreams love goes bad lamo.
She's a disaster in this support. She's hungover and has a messy healing tent. Shez calling her out. #Deserved.
So she says "who are you, my husband?" in the support. Anyone know if she says "wife" to F!Shez?
She's a disaster and I love her.
SHEZ & DOROTHEA C SUPPORT
Dorothea was known as the "Mystical Songstress." Some cool lore.
She's not thrilled with it though, since it implies that it's shocking (or "mystical") someone poor like her rose to the top.
Oh, man, more awkward singing. Like, the actress is good, for sure, but I find it so awkward. Like, who just asks someone to sing in the middle of a conversation?
Shez doesn't know what to make of opera lol.
SHEZ & LINHARDT C SUPPORT
Shez is asking a good question, why isn't Linhardt more interested in Shez's power? Is it just crests for Linhardt?
Even Linhardt doesn't know why he's not interested.
Linhardt called Shez's power sinister and his sword cold. This is soooo different from how Dimitri treat Shez's abilities.
MONICA & HUBERT C SUPPORT
Hubert's editing other people's (Monica's) reports. Dude deserves a raise.
So Monica sees herself as a servant. Does Hubert?
Oh, are we finally addressing that Hubert was brainwashed and gaslit into his loyalty to Edelgard? Ok, guess not.
Mannn, Hubert just does not take her seriously.
BERNADETTA & EDELGARD C SUPPORT
Nice to see some development about a MOM for once, but unsurprising it becomes actually about the dad and the mom's letter is just to give updates about dads. Ugh.
I really hate how much "put Varley in charge of a government controlled religion" is a joke at Varley's expense and not ever discussed as problematic. At least in AG it bites her in the ass.
MANUELA & JERITZA C SUPPORT
It's too bad they didn't get a support in Houses where Manuela could've addressed why she's so casual about fighting in the same army as the man she hated so much.
Oh, dear, she's thirsty.
Girllll, get better taste in men.
She comes across so desperate, poor woman. He wants nothing to do with her though. So that makes 2 people with terrible taste in this support.
MAIN BATTLE
Man, so far this is depressingly like CF. Oh, look, we're attacking Claude again.
Edelgard really set submit to me or die.
Linhardt's like, let me be part of the diplomacy. But, my man, what diplomacy??? All there is is terms of surrender or die, lamo.
Ick. Caspar - "When in doubt, take 'em out." He legit just called murdering people for daring to defend their homeland instead of considering surrender instead "sweating the small stuff." I forget how much I despise Caspar when he's fighting for Edelgard. No concern for human life.
"Defeat Lorenz and Count Glouster" :( Seriously, Lorenz is REALLY growing on me in GW by virtue of having the most interesting plot line there so far.
It would be so fantastic if Edelgard had to abandon her attack on the Alliance because Dimitri was raining hell down on her invasion of Faerghus.
So recruiting Balthus, Ignatz, and Lorenz. Lorenz deserves better than this. Balthus and Ignatz I get.
Hubert's like "Glouster's upset we hurt his heir." No shit, you injured his son. But SB doesn't have the guts to admit we just brutalized a man's son right in front of him and instead spins it with ugly words like "heir."
"Claude's shady scheme." My sister in Sothis you are INVADING him. Edelgard's self-awareness still at 0 I see. The funny thing is that you know she thinks she's the morally superior here one and that Claude's some dirty trickster using brains against her. How dare he!! /s
Edelgard: "I may be killing innocent Alliance soldiers for their own good, but at least I'm not using dirty tricks!" Says the woman with the most money and soldiers to spare. My God this woman never realizes her privilege.
I do not remember Glouster being loved and respected by his people in Houses, Lorenz, lol. I remember them finding him a greedy power-hungry dude who was suspected of killing merchants for gain. But hey, what do I know.
Lorenz makes such a good point. Glouster sees it as pointless because he lost, but I know Glouster sees otherwise in GW when he won.
I hate, hate, hate this is getting viewed as a "misstep." You were defending yourself from an invasion. Glouster is NOT in the wrong.
I LOVE how they view Glouster as "stabbing them in the back." You were invading them. OH MY GOD. This game is allergic to holding Edelgard responsible for anything and shifting blame to her victims.

It starts with an earache at school.
Frau Meyer asks him if he's alright after he crawls onto the bench by the apple trees and rubs at his ear until it's sore on the outside, too. He says he doesn't know.
Did he get something in it? It'll only hurt worse if he keeps rubbing it.
He doesn't know, he says again.
Ich weiß nicht.
But then his head hurts after recess and into the next period when Herr Nowak points to outlines of countries on the overhead screen. Wer ist unser Nachbar? he asks. Who is our neighbor? He points to the twisting country below Germany, and Max's head swims trying to make out all the wobbles of the border, as though Herr Nowak is asking about those and not the name of the whole country.
Herr Nowak calls his name.
Ich weiß nicht, Max says again, because his head hurts and he feels sick. He doesn't know the name of the shapes on the border.
Some of the other kids laugh, and those sounds pierce his head. Little broken glass shards swept into a pan, rattling around, jabbing at all the soft parts of his brain and making him wince and shudder.
But Herr Nowak doesn't laugh. He frowns, then walks up to Max's desk and kneels beside him. He asks if he's alright, if he needs to see the school nurse.
Ich weiß nicht.
Max doesn't know, and that's all he remembers before his mom picks him up before the last bell rings.
---
They go to the doctor. Her office is nice, with pictures of cartoon animals on the walls, six Mainzelmännchen sitting outside a doctor's office with various bandages on their knees, hands, and foreheads. Max imagines he's one of them, wearing an over-sized bandage on his head as it throbs and pulses and his ears feel like they're full of wool.
He doesn't remember going into the examination room with his mother. He only remembers the cold press of a stethoscope on his bare back, then his chest, and then bright lights in his eyes.
Doctor Weber turns off her light and looks concerned. She asks him questions, about his family, his friends, how school's going, how much homework he has, what he wants to be when he grows up. But his words come out funny, like he needs to practice them before he says them. They jitter out from between his teeth, and he stutters and pauses to try to gather them back up.
The questions change.
What year is it? What month? What season? Who's the current Chancellor of Germany? (It's okay if he doesn't know the last one, Doctor Weber says to his mother, but she says it so strangely—like she feels sorry for her.)
Ich weiß nicht, Max ends up saying more often than not. Es tut mir leid.
I'm sorry.
---
The hospital, then. A little visit, his mother says. Just an examination, maybe a few pokes. He can be a good boy, of course. He's always a good boy.
The doctors tell him it'll only be a day or two, just to keep an eye on him. He might be a little sick, but he's so brave that it'll be over before he knows it. They let him watch cartoons from his bed, and he gets an extra slice of strawberry cake from a nice nurse with a pink bandaid on her forehead.
Like the Mainzelmännchen, he says.
She asks him what he means, but Max feels too dizzy to explain. He tries to get some cake onto his little plastic fork, but it falls back onto the plate three times before his mother has to help him. The nurse gives him a sad look, but with a smile—he doesn't understand what that means.
More doctors and nurses come throughout the day and night. More pokes, more bandages. He's so brave. He's so strong. It'll be over soon, they all say.
When? he wants to know.
Ich weiß nicht.
No one knows.
---
He dreams.
He dreams about his sister taking him for a walk down the hill by their house. Oberkochen is surrounded by hills, and Leonie always says she'll take him over this one, then another, and another until they're in Austria. How many hills until Austria?
He dreams about Michael, his friend from school. Michael is from France, originally. He wants to go back all the time, but his father works for a big company and they can't leave until he's done working there. Sometimes Michael cries at recess, tugging at the teacher's shirts and asking when he can go home. And Max dreams that he asks Michael the same question. When can he go home?
He dreams about Oma and Opa's house in the Jura. Opa calls it their fairytale house, and tells Max about how the big pond behind the house was made because two giants were wrestling and fell on the ground. They were so big that it left a huge dent in the dirt, and the dent filled with rain. Where did the giants go?
He dreams about his mother and father in the kitchen at home. They argue, quietly. His mother smokes cigarettes even though she promised a long time ago that she would quit. His father takes off his glasses and rubs his eyes. They argue more, and then they look at him and ask a question. How could this happen?
There's only one answer to all of these questions.
---
How many hills until Austria?
When can he go home?
Where did the giants go?
How could this happen?
What's a nervous system?
What does 'meninges' mean?
Why is everyone crying?
Why can't he hear the cartoons anymore?
---
Ich weiß nicht.
Niemand weiß.
Es gibt keine Antwort.

And on warming spring days,
I am a shallow brook hidden
between marshes -the water
that flows through pastoral
mountains. I am the blueness
of the vast open skies- the
melody of feathered creatures -
and the blanket of greenery
in the distant hills
The Devotion of day in The Light Ahead by Leonie Anderson

"Richard returned with joy and relief to the hills and moorlands of his northern home. Its peace and beauty never seemed more soothing than on his arrival after a long and weary journey”.
Lady Newton.
Lyme is the second highest National Trust garden after Castle Drogo, Devon, and its height, exposure, heavy rainfall and acidic soil make it very much unlike the soft south-eastern lowlands; as Joseph Addison, head gardener from 1907-22, remarked: “We came in March, up from Suffolk*, and it was three months later than Suffolk* and a very wet year, all slugs and rain”.
Although there was actually a heatwave when I went there in August 2022, the cool, damp weather that is at Lyme almost all the rest of the time had left its mark.
*Suffolk is a fine county; please see here. It is, as you can see, nothing whatsoever like Lyme, as Addison found out.
Lyme was held by the warrior aristocrats of the Danyers, then the Legh, family from 1346; please see here for my full history of the place. Here I am mainly focusing on the garden and moors.
The park was carved of the vast Forest of Lyme (from which Newcastle nder Lyme, which is very near where I live, Audlem, in the Cheshire/Shropshire/Wales borderlands, and Ashton under Lyne near what is now Manchester.  Although little is left of the forest, much of Lyme is wooded; please see here and here for more on that.
The house was built around 1570, commissioned by Sir Peter Legh IX (there were so many Peters, Thomases and Richards that they all bore numbers as well as names) and the park, with its striking avenue of lime trees, was ordered by Richard Legh I of Lyme around 1670.
In the early 18th century, the house got a makeover inside and out as famed Venetian architecht Giacomo Leoni (1686-1746) worked here; the house is largely his embellishment of what was built in 1570.
The moors swept down to (2) the garden, largely the work of Lewis Wyatt  (1777-1853). He worked for Thomas Legh II (1792-1857) and then Alfred Darbyshire came here in 1863 to work for William John, 1st Baron Newton (1828-98).
Wyatt and Darbyshire added to what was already here, such as (3) the avenue of lime trees already mentioned, (4) the house, (5) library, (6) chapel.
When the Protestant Reformation came to England in 1536, the Leghs, showing their Lancashire roots, stayed Catholic; Richard Legh I (1634-87) ordered a Protestant chapel built but at the time it was for show, and the family worshipped inthe old ways in secret; (7) is a sign of this.
Printed in 1487 by William Caxton, the Sarum Missal (at Lyme since 1503) is a Catholic prayer book which is now an artefact but wa svery much in day to day use until, at some point, the show became reality and the Leghs really did become Protestants.
The chapel was used throughout this time, but around 1900 the family moved its worship to St Mary, in the nearby town of Disley, which I’ve never been to but hope to see soon) and, though restored in 1950, the chapel is not as lush as it would have been in Lewis Wyatt’s day.
The book was lost until Peter Legh XII (1669-1744; he also employed Leoni) dates found it and restored it, this time as an heirloom.
We then move to (8) the ante room and (9) the dining room; Lewis Wyatt, a man of many talents, designed this as well as the garden.
Of the Grinling Gibbons carvings in the house, James Lees-Milne said “in the northern half of England there are no carvings, with the exception of those at Chatsworth by Gibbons’ pupil Samuel Watson, that can compare with those at Lyme in delicacy, finish and artistic refinement”.
After World War 1, in which son and heir Richard William Davenport (1888-1960) fought, as so many of his forefathers had done, it was no longer possible to have an aristocratic lifestyle; servants were unwilling to work here, rents from farmland were falling, and the city of Manchester overshadowed the old country life; Jack Leech, who had once worked on the estate, simply said “When we came back and saw all that at Lyme, we thought what’d we been fighting for?” (Probably not the same war aims as Richard, anyway!)
Richard this gave Lyme to the National Trust in 1946. He lived for another fourteen years, and must have been pleased to see what good care has always been taken by the National Trust, which only grew stronger in later years. As a sign of the times, the Sarum Missal, which had been in Manchester’s John Rylands Library since 1946 (a sumptous building; please see here) was brought back to Lyme in 1986.
I last came here in February 2018, during the cold spell of Beast from the East (I had planned to come back in March 2020, but the lockdown due to COVID 19 kept me away), so I knew better than to walk on such exposed moors (Kelly’s Directory of Cheshire, 1896, called it “bleak, moorish and unfruitful”) in a heatwave, but I had taken (1) in August 2016 (all others from August 2022) so can share all the seasons and colours of Lyme.

5, 26, 38 for léonys?
I answered #5 here! Everybody wants to know what's in Leonys' pockets, apparently! what has it got in its pocketses, precious
26. How does your character behave around children?
Leonys is really good at getting on a child's wavelength, if that makes any sense? She follows their logic pretty easily and genuinely likes hanging out with them. Despite all that, she doesn't always anticipate children very well. Incidents like the one where four-year-old Dorian Bindbore managed to light a haystack on fire and all Leonys (the one who taught him to start fires) had to say was, "In hindsight, I imagine I ought to have anticipated that," are a little bit more common than they should be.
38. Is your character more likely to remove a problem/threat, or remove themselves from a problem/threat?
This one depends pretty heavily on context. Is the threat encroaching on her territory, or is she encroaching on its? Did someone ask her to remove it, or does she feel like she owes it to someone? She's perfectly content to let the Barrow-downs continue on like they have, because they basically stay contained to within their hill range. But Angmar is letting its whole business leak all over Eriador, including into her stomping grounds, and also it's either threatened or hurt people that she loves.

Hairstyle review for the Deer, guess what all their hair looks nice. Claude and Lysithia seem to have the fewest changes to their hairstyles, MARIANNE HAS HER HAIR DOWN AND A CUTE LITTLE HEADBAND heck yeah, Ignatz is still cute despite being in the awkward “growing hair out” phase and I will fight people on that hill, I know basically anything will look better than Lorenz’s original academy phase hair but his hair actually does look genuinely nice, this is...the best hairstyle Raphael has ever had, I really love Leonie’s hair I think this is actually my favorite style for her as well, and Hilda is Hilda.
