i wanna know more about your ramshackle boys.
Tumblr media
So I got this ask a while back but I was dissatisfied with any work I put into drawing the boys. Anywho here’s that info, anon!
Mikael Hatch: Third year transfer from pomefore and vice house-warden. Obvious inspiration from Constance Hatchaway and one of her grooms Michael from the 50th anniversary celebration. I still have trouble really nailing his outwardly warm facade. Not shown here, but included in the card I made earlier, he also wears the five pearl necklaces, but I am debating on a change to better suit his character and activities.
Claude Gracey: I based him off the scrapped raven ghost host concept, and a friend of mine suggested the name based on an imagineer who worked on the haunted mansion. To stick with the bird theme I gave him a falconer glove in the dorm uniform card design (still in work). I wanted him to slouch to look more like a peering raven.
Addison Leer: the hatbox ghost has a nickname listed as king leer, which is where the last name came from, but Addi sounds like Hattie and I thought it suits him. I also took some inspiration from the story of the girl with the green ribbon to nail in the headless aspect. He is the only one I have not made a card for yet. At first it was the design itself that stumped me, but then it became a matter of setting, activity, and perspective. I am working on him :(
Leonidas Graves: my favorite absolutely. Madame Leota Toombs as the basis, he has some funky hair and a crystal ball. My sibling actually is the reason I came up with the ghostly instruments skater chain I gave leonidas. I wanted him to be more of a rebellious figure, where Leota is a powerful woman who just happened to get her own curse turned on her, trapping her in the crystal ball, leonidas uses his crystal ball and a bag of marbles to see beyond.

Hi,
I'm Claudius, but I prefer to go by Claude. I love learning about the occult and paranormal from my mother figure, Leota Toombs. I am the quietest of the group, and I much prefer to spend my time in the gardens then with people.

[ anya chalotra, cis woman, she/her. ] ✧・゚ is that [ LENORE TOOMBS ] who just stumbled into town? rumour has it that they’re the [ TWENTY-FOUR ] year old child of [ MADAME LEOTA ] from [ THE HAUNTED MANSION ]. i’ve also heard that they’re [ EASILY EXCITABLE ] but [ CARELESS ] and have [ 1 ] sibling. i could almost swear i heard [ THE FRUITS - PARIS PALOMA ] playing when they appeared.
tw: mentions of death under the cut
lenore and her twin brother were born in salem, massachusetts ten years before the witch trials plagued the town, and while most of the people killed during the witch trials were innocent... well, the witch trials started for a reason, and the real witches of salem were left paranoid and afraid that one day they’d be found out.  leota, being one of them, awoke lenore and her brother in the dead of night and told them that they must flee, and flee they did.
they wandered for weeks, sleeping in boarding houses when they could but usually settling down in abandoned buildings, until the family stumbled across a beautiful manor. leota, being a powerful psychic medium, immediately felt the spiritual energy practically pouring out of the manor and insisted that this was where their family was meant to settle down, and after pleading their case with the current living resident of the manor, the family was given a wing of the manor that they could call home
from a young age, it was clear that lenore shared her mother’s gift for communing with the dead, becoming known as “little leota” among both the living and dead residents of the manor. her brother often made fun of her for having more dead friends than living ones. she didn’t care, though. she was content with how she chose to live her life. still, lenore and leota often spent many a witching hour together in leota’s seance room, communing with the spirits while her brother was left outside wandering the halls. he didn’t share the gift of his family, but frankly, he was more than okay with that. ironically, the dead always gave him the creeps, which probably explained why he moved out of the manor and went off to college when he turned eighteen and left lenore and leota behind.
one day, during a seance, lenore and leota made a grave mistake that caused the wrong spirit to be called forth, and although they tried to banish it, the spirit overpowered the two of them and suddenly lenore felt her body grow cold.  no, not her body... her body was slumped over in her chair right in front of her.  her spirit was cold, and as she looked around frantically, she saw that her mother had met the same fate as her, but her spirit had been trapped inside the very crystal ball that they’d used in their seances. to this day she’s not sure if her brother knows of their demise, as they haven’t heard a word from him in years.

The Hidden Secrets of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion Pet Cemetery
Tumblr media
The Haunted Mansion at Disneyland Park is one of the most iconic and beloved dark rides ever created. Since opening in 1969, it has entertained and spooked millions of guests with its ghostly inhabitants and imaginative scenes. But hidden away outside this popular attraction is a lesser-known feature - the Haunted Mansion pet cemetery. History of the Pet Cemetery The pet cemetery first appeared in the early 1980s on the west side of the Haunted Mansion building. It was only visible to guests using the wheelchair-accessible side entrance and remained a hidden gem seen by few. According to legend, the cemetery was conceived by Disney Imagineer Kim Irvine, daughter of Madame Leota actress Leota Toombs. In 1993, an additional pet cemetery was installed along the main ride queue where more guests could enjoy it. Over time, the original cemetery became even more secluded as the newer one gained popularity. Today, the status of this secret graveyard accessible only to Disney cast members remains a mystery - some say it's been removed, while others claim it can still be found with a helpful cast member's guidance.

Memorials to Ghostly Pets The Haunted Mansion pet cemetery features whimsical headstones remembering deceased animal companions of the mansion's residents. Each statue and inscription adds humor and personality to furry residents, like: Stripey the Skunk: "You may be departed, but your presence will always linger on" Bully the Frog: "You didn't drink, you didn't smoke, I just can't figure what made you croak" Big Jake the Dog: "Chased a toad down a well, was his one mistake" Miss Kitty the Cat: "After losing eight lives you still had no fear"There's also a memorial for all pets without marked graves, and statues of a squirrel, rabbit, fish, rat, spider, and snake on the queue's brick facade. Design Details & Hidden Magic Subtle details throughout the pet cemetery reinforce its imaginative storytelling. Lily pads surround the tombstone of a frog named Old Flybait "who croaked," while a skunk's marker is edged with flowers known for their own skunky scent. And in true Disney fashion, there's hidden magic here too. Cast members report the planter in the cemetery's center mysteriously topples over at night - could playful spirits be to blame? The memorial to Miss Kitty the cat even suggests one of her nine lives remains...perhaps her ghost still lurks about! Continuing a Legacy While the ultimate fate of the original hidden pet cemetery by the Haunted Mansion is unknown, its legacy continues to delight Disney guests. The tributes to beloved animal companions in the ride's queue keep their stories alive and remain a highlight for many park visitors. It's a testament to the imaginative storytelling and attention to detail that make Disney Parks so special. Just like the mansion itself, the pet cemetery stands the test of time by blending humor, heart, and a little haunting fun. So next time you're waiting in line to hitch a ride with the Haunted Mansion's happy haunts, keep an eye out for these tributes to long-gone pets. You never know what magical surprises or ghostly activity you might encounter!

Frequently Asked Questions What is the history behind the pet cemetery? The original pet cemetery first appeared in the early 1980s on the west side of the Haunted Mansion, conceived by Imagineer Kim Irvine. Whimsical headstones remember deceased pets like Stripey the skunk, Bully the frog, Big Jake the dog, Miss Kitty the cat, and more. Statues on the queue's facade also depict a fish, rat, spider, snake and other animals. Are there any secrets or hidden details in the cemetery? Yes! Cast members report the planter frequently topples over mysteriously at night, which could be the work of ghostly pets. Miss Kitty's epitaph also suggests she has one life remaining, and may still lurk around the Haunted Mansion! Why does the pet cemetery matter? It continues the storytelling and rich detail of the Haunted Mansion through humor and heart. The pet cemetery adds magic and personality that delights guests and keeps this classic Disney ride engaging over 50 years since its debut. Could the original pet cemetery still exist somewhere? Potentially! Some claim it remains hidden from guests and accessible only by Disney cast members. Its ultimate fate is unknown, but the cemetery's legacy lives on through the tributes added outside the ride.

The hidden secrets of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion extend beyond the ride itself to features like the whimsical pet cemetery. Though its original west side location remains elusive, the newer memorials delight riders with humor and heart. The cemetery tributes let imaginations run wild with stories of bully frogs, departed skunks, and ghosts of pets past. Its little details and legends feel quintessentially Disney - fun, playful, and forever fascinating. For over 30 years, this graveyard has kept delightful pet tales alive for Mansion fans. ^Something cute^ Randall, Emily and one of the new owners of the manor kids are in the living room sitting on a couch watching a late night horror movie about a group of people trapped in a evil house. There was a certain part that made the kid hide under Randall's cloak while hugging the ghosts side "that cat monster is too scary Mr. Hatbox" the kid said "there's nothing like that in our home is there?".
((First of all, the mental image of little kids hiding in Randall's cloak is so adorable! But also...
Randall, immediately recalling the One-Eyed Black Cat, who still sometimes prowls the hall if it ever gets out of Little Leota's room and spends its time hissing and swiping at ghosts and mortals alike, with the younger Toombs being the only one it actually likes: Uh...))

Disneyland Secret #255
Madam Leota’s face is portrayed by Leota Toombs. She was an imagineer for Disneyland. The voice of Madam Leota was first portrayed by Eleanor Audley who was a voice actress. For Disney she did many voices that included Lady Tremaine and Maleficent both from the animated movies. Currently, Madam Leota is voiced by Susan Blakeslee, another wonderful voice actress who does a large number of voices for Disney.

The Second Annual Halloween Women Crush, voted for by viewers, is on Leota Toombs Thomas, one of my favorite women to have ever worked at the Disney Company! She’s the literal face of Madame Leota on the Haunted Mansion and was, apparently, very dedicated to her work (like almost to the same extent as Walt himself, according to her sister-in-law). Don’t forget to vote in the poll (which I failed to mention in the video) for the next Women Crush Winesday!
