Bahamas - Pink Strat Woke up this morning and listened to the brand new Bahamas album, Earthtones, and decided to go back to his first album. I can’t quite remember how I discovered Bahamas but I can’t help that either me or someone I know found him on MySpace. Of course, before this album he could be seen playing guitar for Feist (who is featured on this record) on her Reminder tour. This particular copy was gifted to me by the great @thetaoofmoults who saw Bahamas at a gig I believe at the Carleton here in Halifax. I was still 18 so I couldn’t go but Mike got it signed for me and gave it to me for Xmas. Lost Dreams

How do we recover our lost dreams? Like many of you, I have lost so many of my own, from the loss of our first child and pregnancy, the loss of my father almost 8 years ago and my husband’s father last month, to the loss of my mind. It’s no coincidence my favorite artist, Feist, is beginning a series as beautiful and as poignant as she is, all inspired by a great loss she faced and the fear that followed to reconstruct and put it all back together. It’s one of the greatest fears humans can face other than death. How do we go on in the face of fear? One way I’ve been practicing is by simply sharing my story. Feist takes us on a journey through loss in this first podcast, “Lost Dreams: The Neutral Cruelty of Hope” through the simple act of storytelling.

I did this in May for BeatRoute Magazine’s review of Feist’s new album Pleasure, her first album in six years. The idea of Pleasure in this album is more spoken of as something to strive for, existing not yet, but some time in the future. Deceptively titled, much of Feist’s album is actually inspired by the pain she experienced during those six years, her “dark night of the soul.”  I drew inspiration from this idea, that the album Pleasure actually comes from a place of Pain. Pleasure is Pain. The night time scene represents her “dark night of the soul” with the moon being a kind of muse. The moon is pink to show it’s connection to the flowers, which, following after the album’s branding, represents Pleasure.
