one of my favourite things about the clone wars is that everyone just agreed that the clone commanders are all in love with their generals.

Obi Wan and Cody? theyre in love. they drink tea together.

Aayla and Bly? married, paint each others nails sometimes.

Shaak Ti and Colt? adopted every single clone trooper, official parents of the GAR.

Anakin and Rex might not be in romantic love, but platonically they were MADE for one another.

and everyone knows that Plo adopted the wolffepack so there nothing but love there, too.

they just deserve to be happy.

Okay, but what would make me happy is one of the end scenes of the series is just Ahsoka stopping by to visit Rex in his very relaxing and much-deserved retirement. Like, he’s not involved in whatever schemes are going on. Rex is just chilling on a boat or on a beach, sipping colorful beverages and being wholly unbothered by the universe.

And maaaaaybe that boat/beach happens to be on Pabu. And there just so happen to be a whole gaggle of people of all ages (and who, perhaps, resemble Rex in varying degrees) around who call him “Uncle Rex.” And, oh my, is that a blonde woman who calls him her brother?

Ahsoka gets to see Rex happy in his retirement and old age being the uncle/honorary grandfather to the children of the clones he managed to save over the years. She gets to see the genetic sister he didn’t expect to find, but still accepted and loved.

And she is happy to see that!

Does the colour scheme of the background sort of look like the colour scheme of the houses and buildings on Pabu?

So, theory: Cid didn't sound...normal? the last time she contacted the guys and it's actually because the empire has gotten hold of her to try to bait the bad batch into coming into contact with her again. Well, that didn't work, so Cid suggests contacting Echo alone and tells him about Cross needing help (she knows the group has split) and that checks the "Cid is going to betray them" checkbox. Echo and Rex fall for it, contact the rest of the batch because they are going to need as much help as they can get in infiltrating Tantiss, and head to Pabu to rendezvous. That's where we get the long awaited Echo and Omega reunion. The group head to Tantiss, get Crosshair out, but in the process Omega is captured. They are forced to leave her to save injured/drugged/traumatised/comatose Cross and themselves. We open season 3 on Omega being experimented on or being mistreated to get Nala Se to cooperate.

So at first I was just drawing Commander Gree as the bug boy I believe him to be, and then I got caught up in researching butterfly’s and their different colour meanings and bam! The irresistible urge to give them all butterfly’s. So here they all are, scuffed up from battle and trying to find a bit of joy in the war-torn world around them.

Still playing it a bit fast and loose with clone designs, but I think I am getting there. And yes, all of them are real butterfly’s except Rex’s because I could not find a blue enough butterfly on the underside/ventral, and I wanted it on his nose gosh darn it. So he got the only butterfly (correct me if I am wrong) I could find in the Star Wars universe. And perhaps there is a story to that one, of messages carried from brothers through the force, but I will leave that to you all to think about.

Obi-Wan ducks his head, overcome by the generosity of his friend. Some might say it takes a Jedi to feel compassion in the face of such adversity, but clearly it takes a clone as well.

As if to prove him right, Rex glances around to make sure they’re not being watched, then puts a hand on Obi-Wan’s wrist, one of the few places his skin hasn’t been torn open. “How are you feeling?”

Or: Sometimes it takes a clone.
