Maknae Line + ARMY = Power Dynamics (Pt 2)

We love them and they love us right back. It's what makes the ARMY/BTS relationship what it is, and it is genuine.

It is also a power imbalance.

Less of one, these days, but it is still there. And WE HOLD THE POWER. We LOVE THEM. We are the driving force behind BTS' success. We hold their actual paychecks in our hands.

That's... a lot. A lot of love. A lot of paychecks. And a lot of power.

And it lends itself, unfortunately for both us and them, to a lot of abnormal behavior. OH WAIT LET'S READ THAT DISCLAIMER AGAIN

In my last post I said that BTS is a safe place for ARMY to explore sexuality.

THE REVERSE IS NOT TRUE.

Never has been, never will be, because ARMY was never designed for that. We are not their safe space. Not if they're straight, even more not if they're gay or bi or pan or heaven forbid gender non-conforming.

They accept us as we are because they love us, but we are under NO OBLIGATION TO DO THE SAME FOR THEM. And... as a general rule, ARMY - OT7 ARMY, anyway - doesn't. But also we do. And don't. Very confusing, ARMY reactions.

Hell, when have they ever had TIME to grow into healthy, normal adult sexual relationships? They lived together until some of them were nearly 25, FFS. Well beyond college age for Seokjin and Yoongi and well into it for the rest of them. That they seem to be reasonably well-adjusted is a credit to them and their partners, should they have any. Again, the hyungs have excelled, here. Mainly because they've never really HAD "dating scandals", which: ARE THE STUPIDEST IDEA OF A SCANDAL.

Literally how stupid is it to be upset that a famous person who is an adult human might also be (gasp, clutch pearls, die) having sex? Out in the world adulting like a whole adult WITH PEOPLE? And yet, ARMY gets like that sometimes.

And before you say "not ALL ARMY" let me just remind you that "not ALL men" is the exact. same. statement. "Not REAL ARMY is like "not REAL men."

Which: granted and I don't entirely disagree, but I'll just say that people who identify as ARMY behave this way and rest assured that both BTS and BigHit are aware -- and market for it.

You're mad, now, maybe and I get it, so let's move on and not beat ARMY to death, k? I do feel like that for the majority of us, all we feel for Jimin, Jungkook and Taehyung is simply love and support. Misguided support, sometimes, but love and support nonetheless.

So imagine you're a young man - still a boy in many ways - and you are living with and surrounded by beautiful, legitimately stunning, other young men. And maybe you've had time to examine your own sexuality and maybe not but Namjoon has WOW THIGHS and guys are naked and girls were kind of cute but also very weird anyway, bros just make so much more sense and then

A wild Park Jimin appears. Geeky, until he dances and then it's a gaspy thing that happens. Also: THIGHS. And, um, an ass that won't quit also biceps and a sweet heart and a big brain and, well. Shit. Anyway he dances. And you wanna dance, too. Your assigned role is to be yourself, pretty much, as long as you're good at everything. Don't act too too happy to see him, all right?

OR... you're the wild Park Jimin and you stumble gaily forward into a whole new life and you see the biggest pair of doe eyes you have ever seen... and he's the got-damned maknae. Kid's a prodigy. From Busan. He's a complete turd 90% of the time, and your JOB is to play the gay buff boy who adores him and gets routinely rejected. OH SWEET JESUS WHY.

LORDT. You see where this is going. The unattainable baby, far too young to do ANYTHING meaningful with, and in the meantime there are other guys just shirtless wandering around like a whole Min Yoongi exists please excuse me I devolved overnight I apologize anyway where was i?

Taehyung. Oh thank the gods, he's safe anyway. Fun, a little wild, definitely attaches to people. Accidentally brilliant (he didn't even have to audition) and a little eccentric and interesting, and he's a 95 liner - CHINGU! - and they go to the same school and and and. He's savvy - he lost his Daegu satoori immediately to fit in. Asked his friends to take good care of his slightly older hyung. Partner in crime, pretty voice, pretty eyes, a slinky dork of a dude who... maybe doesn't have his sexuality 100% locked down but is well-versed in skinship. Lots of skinship. Lots and lots of skinship. Gonna be a star, that one.

Let the glowups commence right along with the narrative.

Just kidding. I kind of know what's been going on. Kind of.

WHAT THE WHAT OMG OMG

Okay wait. Here's what's happening as nearly as my admittedly dysfunctional brain can tell:

In... October. Like the same October the rest of us are gonna get in a few months only THEY GET A 'GLOBAL CONCERT' which may very well mean a LIVESTREAM EVENT.

I kinda want a behind the scenes video, like Yoongi and the Jeon-Parks going here, although I mean as long as they're in town they could just take everybody. Namjoon should get a pass for all the years he's spent in the middle, there might be tooooo much Jeon-Park Appreciation in that city for his not-really-a-hiatus resting state.

Or maybe they could grab 'em a Hobi (there's always a Hobi) and have another fansign event about dicks gaebul fish whatever it is that's tasty in Busan:

Free Jungkook from your homophobia, more like.

Homophobic hateful behavior. That’s what it is when a man is telling you out loud who he loves and you’d rather deflect, avoid, deny and invalidate. You’d rather scream at his employer, hate his lover, and call him a liar than listen to the man you say you love. You’re wrong. It’s wrong. No argument you have is valid at this point. You believe him or you choose to deny him on the basis of your prejudice against him. That’s it. When people choose to actively denigrate, invalidate and hate on an individual due to their perceived or obvious sexual orientation and/or choice of partner, those people are not fans. Those people are by definition haters, antis and bullies. You are perpetrating homophobic abusive bullshit on two men who have done nothing but love you, entertain you and work for you and you should be ashamed of yourselves.

Does Jungkook need to be freed from shippers? I mean, it wouldn’t hurt to free him from Taekook when he has explicitly said they’re not close like that. It wouldn’t hurt to free him from Jinkook hard shippers who don’t understand platonic love vs. sexual love. But really neither of those or any other ships really give Jungkook much lost sleep, I don’t think. He’s not worried about y’all because guess what? Toxic TKKers aside, y’all affect his personal life about zero percent of the time. Idol training prepares these men – all of them – for shipping, for fan interaction and fanservice, for the duality of image they are expected to present. That duality is a learned skill, kids. The level of camera intrusion into a successful idol’s life is insane and they are taught how to handle that and what to show the public with the assumption that everything will always be shown to the public. Are exceptions made? Of course. All the time. Editing does happen. Some stuff gets left on the floor. We freak out when things make it to the public without taking into consideration the number of people it takes to sign off on those decisions. That’s why moments like Rose Bowl and 2018 MAMA are so major – there wasn’t time to edit those things. They were caught live and available globally within moments of their capture. But Hickeygate and They Look Exceptionally Close Today and Neck Stroke Holiday Dynamite were crafted products deliberately shown to us by BigHit/Hybe, in packaged products. Hell they reclaimed Rose Bowl and stuck it in DVD format and you don’t think that was a calculated move? Read that again – they CHOSE TO SHOW US THIS. DELIBERATELY. WITH SIGNOFFS ON MULTIPLE LEVELS AND ARTIST/MANAGEMENT INPUT. ONE MORE TIME IN THE BACK THEY DID IT ON PURPOSE THEY ARE NOT HIDING THIS IS AS OUT AS WE ARE GONNA GET WITHOUT A SEX TAPE OR A WEDDING VIDEO.

BUT some fans are stupid and some of us – a distressing number - are violently and virulently anti-LGBTQ+. And before you start the “my brother is gay don’t” I CAN AND I AM BECAUSE YOU ARE. You may love your gay bro. Hell you might be gay yourself – internalized homophobia is real. But let’s face it – if your problem is that Jungkook is being shipped with Jimin then why is that a problem? What makes you mad we gonna call out an actual admitted hickey from the giggling-ass involved adult parties? Why is making a hickey a romantic, sexual thing wrong? BECAUSE TWO DICKS ARE INVOLVED AND YOU ARE NOT. That’s why, kids. And not just any dicks. His dick and yep, his dick too and guess what, hard-ons happened and were likely dealt with as a result JUST LIKE IT GOES ON A REGULAR BASIS. A neck mark like that is clear evidence of sexual activity and that is what has your homophobia acting up. Because whether you admit it or not you know exactly what it means. And why you might be fine with it being with a girl JUST NOT WITH JIMIN. Denying it with “my brother does it to me” makes you look like a liar or an incest victim and I hope for your sake it’s the former. Making it a cover for a girl just makes you gross in your str8 agenda and I hope you choke on it. Does Jungkook even find women attractive? I haven’t seen evidence of that – I’ve seen more of that from Jimin, actually – but he might. Very well could. Bisexuality and pansexuality exist and as a member of the latter community it’s more common than you think. But Jungkook openly and clearly finds men – one man in particular – more attractive than anyone else. He is absolutely, most assuredly doing the sexy gay sex with one Park Jimin whether you like it or not. Is now, has been for at least four or five years, possibly longer. Stan a man who believes in true love and a long term relationship, it’s healthy for everyone. Good for you. Free Jungkook. Free Jungkook from dumbass homophobic bullshit. Free him from people who don’t love and support him and his orientation and his relationship. Free him from everybody except Park Jimin because they have a date to go to the moon, a deserted island, and their own damn bed without us. And after all this I hope they do.

just my 2cts no one asked on the "Jikook are hella glowing those last months" (they really are!) : i think it’s a combination of BTS success rn (the last year really made them blow up even more worldwide, they’re for sure the biggest band on the planet atm) + the pride of being part of the presidential envoy + them being more relaxed cause even tho the whole COVID situation was shorty it was also the opportunity for them to rest and reflex on themselves and then feeling more at peace with themselves + the LA concert coming and most probably imo a tour coming in 2022 with a new album + possibly them not having to face a normal military service as well AND last but not least a whooole lot of time spend together hence their domesticity and imo the fact they most probably have moved in a new apartment (the one Jimin bought) that they might really like and feel like it’s "their home" for good. I also think more and more fans are noticing them and being supportive, i feel like they are more and more jikookers and they feel the love and support from us. Anyway it’s just me speculating lmao in the end who knows maybe they got engaged and adopted a doggo haha but they do seem really happy and that makes me so so happy for them 🥺💜

Anon 2: How would you perceive post September in jikook's timeline. Their mentality, their relationship, them sharing some of their moments with the world. What do you see this leading to.

Opinions from first anon. I give my 2 cents over things all the time that no one asks for. Okay, well I guess some of you ask for it which is where the asks come from. But the point stands. Thank you for sharing. I agree, there are a million reasons that could explain this happy glowing blushing jikook in the last half of this year. We won't be able to narrow down those reasons or form a really good opinion on it until we get more content though of behind the scenes from actually this year.

For my second anon, the photo is for you! A collection of September's jikook moments. Lol it's important to remember that like half of them are from 2020 tthough, not actually this year, and some from earlier in 2021. And again, for my personal 2 cents. It could be anything like what the first anon said. It could be something impactful in their own relationship. It could be that they have just decided to simply just be... these big giant moments from 2020 that were shared this year, that never would have been shared 2 years ago in 2019. They would have been cut. And it's not like these big moments that are new to jikook, they are just new to us seeing them explicitly and in detail. They gave way too many hints to make us think that was their first hickey, and it's definitely not the first time they've gotten that close, we all know they are making it fairly obvious they kiss at home. Lol it's just now... in content. And the content has been getting steadily more just... not being cut as the years goes on. I think they are just being freer now.

They aren't going to "confirm" anything and they aren't going to act explicit. They will still live life as bandmates and best friends, but they aren't trying to censor themselves as much lately. They aren't stopping themselves from reaching out for touches as much. Jimin is honestly the king of controlling his facial expressions and lately, he has just been letting all his heart eyes come out to play for JK. He isn't hiding his emotions as much anymore. So while they will still be professionals on sets and while rehearsing and on stage, etc. I think they aren't going to hold back as much when it comes to letting us see them. It's becoming more and more clear. Either it's that they just don't care anymore. Or it's some news they've gotten that makes them feel more comfortable. It's that while yes, the hate has increased, but so has the support.

They are just all domestic and soft and loving and happy together lately. Maybe it's a combintiation of all the things. Or maybe it's something we don't know yet. But either way they are being more open with us as fans. In their own way. I really think they just... don't care anymore about hiding or protecting themselves from the hate. I think they are just going to quietly live as they do and let us see that. We shall see I guess. As more content drops. We shall see in the way memories 2021 and DVD content goes from this year. But I wouldn't be surprised if all those moments we see them hold back from fond head kisses or hold back from getting into a proper snuggle or drop hands when a camera shows up, if they just stop holding back from those moments. It wouldn't be anything more "sus" but it would just be a continuation of them being louder and louder.

If any of this makes any sense. Lmfao hopefully it does and I explained myself well. Basically it all comes down to a wait and see. Wait and see what type of content drops next. All I'm saying is there has basically been jikook being jikook and being happy, quietly happy and lovely, in every bit of content given this year. In the background or otherwise. Sooo let's just wait and see what the future brings I guess.
