It’s Monty time!
Tumblr media
Patrizio: Can I put the cheese platters in a grilled sandwich or is this useless?
Tumblr media
His age bar was looking a bit shit and we’re nowhere near completing his horrible LTW of raising 20 puppies/kittens, so! Elixir!
Tumblr media
We’re also not making much progress with Isabella’s 5 top businesses, but at least she still owns the single one she has, so she doesn’t have to start out at level 1. (Honestly might do the cheaty thing of letting it get up to level 10 and then deliberately lose a star.) Isabella: I know, gnomes get stolen all the time. But when thieves are stealing your gnomes, you know what they’re not stealing? Everything else in your house! It’s basically burglar decoy! Amber: I’ll take ten!
Tumblr media
But of course, last time I played this lot, I had Mercutio and Romeo to help out. Patrizio’s here, but he’s busy in the garden and at level 7, the shop is too much for Isabella to handle alone. So I hired some rando to do the restocking.
Tumblr media
It’s been a long day, so Isabella snacks on coffee beans to give her enough energy to walk home.
Tumblr media
Patrizio: You seem like a sophisticated fellow, what cheese would you recommend in a grilled cheese sandwich? Vampire: I didn’t even eat that rubbish when I was alive.
Tumblr media
Patrizio: He wouldn’t even discuss Edam. Isabella: And neither will I.
Tumblr media
Turns out dissing his favourite food has put Patrizio right off sex. Isabella: What if I let you eat it off my naked body? Patrizio: It’s the principle of the thing.
Tumblr media
Remember Artemis? Probably not. Isabella: That’s right, dance for me!
Tumblr media
Romeo brought Ripp home from school, which I’m sure is going to be the start of a beautiful friendship.
Tumblr media
Or at least it would be, if I wasn’t kicking him out to uni. Romeo: Please don’t tell me you’re going to turn my room into a kitten farm. Patrizio: I won’t tell you.
Tumblr media
We do need the space though. Diana might be tiny and adorable, but we need nineteen more of her.
Tumblr media
I will regret this. Isabella: I already do.
Tumblr media
There is no reason for me to screencap this other than it’s completely adorable, so here ya go!
Tumblr media
Less adorable.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Isabella: Uhhh... didn’t we just plant like, 30 tomato plants? Shit, you’re right. Which one of you has the highest aspiration? Isabella: Patrizio just ate a grilled cheese sandwich, so he’s gonna be gold for at least an hour. Perfect.
Tumblr media
Patrizio: Let’s get some sunshine over here.
Tumblr media
But you know what would help his aspiration more? Kittens! And after about three days of trying, Artemis and Luna finally agree to do the nasty and by nasty, I mean the state of this pet house.
Tumblr media
And Isabella got a job. The uniform apparently includes a wig.
Tumblr media
Gardener: I hope you weren’t expecting me to do literally anything else in your garden today, sir.
Tumblr media
Artemis wouldn’t be starving if Artemis had eaten the damn Jamma Hamma.
Tumblr media
Oh look, it’s everyone’s favourite dolphin tank cleaner, Lazlo Curious.
Tumblr media
I tried looking for a new bees gif and couldn’t find one. So here’s the bees gif. Because. Bees.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Much safer.
Tumblr media
I can’t see what Artemis is trying to catch so I’m going to assume it’s even more bees.
Tumblr media
And Diana grew up! Which means we have successfully raised 1/20 kittens and it’s time to evict her to make room for new ones.
Tumblr media
Only it turns out Isabella is utterly distraught by this. When she first started bawling, I honest-to-God thought Patrizio had died.
Tumblr media
Only he came running out to sob at the car as well. I very nearly quit without saving. But they do need the space.
Tumblr media
Isabella: We found a way to deal with our grief. I’ll leave you to it.
Tumblr media
Isabella: COUGH COUGH Uh... are you sick? You can’t be sick, surely, I never saw a pop-up. Isabella: Must be allergies.
Tumblr media
Uh... free fertilizer, yay?
Tumblr media
In genuine yay, we have three new kittens! Sticking with Sailor Moon, their names are uhhhhhh.... brb. SimPE: Jadeite and Kunzite. Where’s Zoisite? SimPE: shrug emoji OK... I’m sure this won’t ever be a problem, thanks!
Tumblr media
And it turns out Artemis is the mother, not Luna, oops! Ah well, never mind, their kittens are no less adorable.
Tumblr media
But as the creator of InTeen knew, where one life begins, another must end NOPE NOT REALLY PATRIZIO WAKE UP!
Tumblr media
Secret Sue: Here’s an invitation to my secret kitchen, congrats! Isabella: *pained death rattle* Secret Sue: Is this a bad time? This seems like a bad time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Patrizio: Pleeeeeease don’t take my wife! I need her help with the garden!
Tumblr media
Grim: You know the drill.
Tumblr media
Patrizio: YASS SUCK IT, DEATH! Grim: I don’t know why I give you lot second chances, you’re all such poor winners.
Tumblr media
Patrizio: I’m hungry. Isabella: I’m alive! Grim: Even better, you’re cured.
Tumblr media
Patrizio: You better be cured, I’ll be very upset if this hug kills me.
Tumblr media
Patrizio wasn’t kidding about the garden though. He spends every waking hour out there, along with the gardener, and it’s still not enough.
Tumblr media
Time to get some more hands on deck! Beatrice: A family reunion, what fun!
Tumblr media
And after a few hours of influencing and weeding and talking the plants out of imminent death, we finally manage to harvest a few! Hurrah!
Tumblr media
Isabella: We’re not doing this again until that greenhouse is finished. That’s fair.

Day 78 // ft. Amla, Kreax, Christi, and Sweetling
#38 / Decision
“Think about it. The little patter of children in our home,” Amla had whispered to him, arms wrapped around him and hands moving up to rest on his belly. “I can do anything. I know we can produce a child together.”
“And I’ll have to carry it?”
“Of course. We all must be a part of this world before we become Detached… A branch cannot exist without a tree to produce it, and a tree is connected to the ground, the living existence.”
“I have an army to command, enemies to dispose of. Why do you think I would want a child? It’ll be a detriment to my physicality.”
“Why, my dear, darling Praetorian, are you worried you’ll grow attached,” Amla spat the word like it was an offense to him, and asked, “-to it? That it’ll be a weakness your enemies can exploit?”
“I won’t become attached to it. I’m not some pathetic commoner willing to hand my life over for an infant just because I laid it.”
“Eggs are so strange, and you live in such an unsuitable environment… I think our child will arrive viviparously. After all, I want to limit the time I spend in this primitive existence. Sitting around waiting for an egg to hatch… guarding something that isn’t learning or truly being-” Amla laughed, leaning in close to his ear. “It simply doesn’t interest me.”
“I suppose I could reallocate some of my work for a few blocks in order to carry the child safely.”
“Blocks? I wouldn’t be thinking in your silly ten-cycle periods, my darling. The… metaphorical tree species I came from gestated for close to, hmm… close to forty blocks?”
“Forty blocks?! I can’t be out of commission for that long!”
“No, of course not. Maybe twenty or thirty blocks.”
“That’s hardly better. And if it’s that long, I certainly won’t want to go through it more than once.”
-
“It barely uses its powers, Kreax,” Amla complained, bringing up the debate once more. “All it does is create things. How boring. Can it even do anything else? And the way it speaks is positively awful. It can’t change its voice.”
He didn’t want to discuss this again. “Amla, why don’t you just ask them to use the other powers they’re supposed to have? They’re on a human ship, and Detached are supposed to limit the effects they have on the primitive plane. They don’t have the opportunity to use their powers with that human woman.”
“It should be using them on its own! Detached don’t take orders from anyone. We have our rules, that’s all. Grr, it’s frustrating. It should have accomplished more!”
“They’re young. They have the potential to become something greater when they’re older.”
“I want our child to join the Detached! I hate waiting!”
“We’ll have to wait for this child to grow. Why not give them more time, and we’ll judge them when the next is the same age as they are now.”
“No. I don’t want to raise two children at once unless I’m sure they’ll amount to something the rest of the Detached will accept.”
“Well, say they weren’t your child, and were another of the Detached’s- would you accept them as a Detached?”
Amla looked Kreax directly in the eyes, gaping at him. He hadn’t thought of it that way, and Kreax’s shoulders slumped as Amla told him, dead serious, “No, I wouldn’t.”
“But you haven’t even-”
“You’re so smart, my darling Praetorian! I never would have thought of it like that. Thank you.”
-
Five days later, marking eleven days since the child had been dropped on her ship, Christi saw Amla again. He was standing in her doorway as she opened it, grinning down at her.
He had that same blank look in his eyes as he always did, the void replacing his eyes only ever containing three or four stars dim at a time.
Christi knew exactly what decision he had come to. The child spotted their mother further in the room, and ducked between their father’s legs to run up to him. The Praetorian patted her head, looking curiously at the flower in her headband.
“Captain, I’ve made my decision.”
“You can’t do that to your own child!” She clenched her fists, resisting the urge to punch him in his smug face. “They deserve a chance to live!”
“It doesn’t meet the expectations of a Detached. It’s useless to put effort into caring for it.”
“You aren’t even giving them a chance!”
“Why should I?”
“I have a bunch of reasons, and so do plenty of others on this ship.”
“Alright. Then let’s go talk to those people. Tell me your reasons, walk with me.”
-
Christi and her crew weren’t able to convince him not to want to kill his child, but they were able to convince him to go ask the other Detached what he should do, just in case the rest of them didn’t agree with him.
Before he left, Christi told him to stop calling his child ‘it,’ and to call them by their name. He’d just smiled down at her and replied that the child didn’t have a name. It was tradition for the Ophidrians not to name their children until they were certain they would survive. Since he had planned from the start to judge whether or not they should live, he’d refused to allow the child’s mother to name them.
The whole thing had been emotionally and mentally draining, so she’d gone back to her quarters, intending to sleep until he came back. But when she walked in, she noticed that the child’s bedroom light was on, and she could hear a noise that sounded like crying.
Quiet as she could, she snuck over to the doorway and peered in. Praetorian Kreax was laying on his child’s bed, holding them close, his face buried against them as he wept, loud, grieving sobs. They weren’t crying, instead chirping softly at him, trying to soothe him.
After a few minutes, in which Christi felt uncomfortable just watching them, Kreax pulled back his head. His face was wet with tears, facial scales a dark red, almost purple, a color Christi hadn’t seen on an Ophidrian before. He nuzzled his child’s head, making an almost inaudible keening sound.
They hugged him tighter, and he rubbed their back, exhaling slowly. “I’m sorry, Sweetling, I couldn’t convince him to give you more time.”
Sweetling… Christi wondered if he used that in place of a name. It was nice to know that he wasn’t just going along with all of this, that he had tried to convince his lover not to slaughter their child.
“It’s okay, Mommy. I liked the time I had with you.”
Christi saw his face screw up, and he couldn't hold back more sobs, though he tried. Sweetling chirped at him again.
Finally, she couldn’t bear spying on them anymore. She knocked on the door frame and said, “Um, hello.”
Kreax hissed, pushing himself up and glaring at her. It would have been intimidating if she hadn’t known he was crying, and if he wasn't so hugely pregnant.
“Relax, it’s just me, Captain Christi Ferraday.”
He stopped hissing and sat up fully, but continued to glare. He pulled Sweetling up, holding them close against his side. “What do you want?”
“Well, I just came in here to go get some sleep, but I saw the light on, so I came over here. Sorry, but I kind of watched you two for a couple of minutes.”
“Humans have no sense of privacy, as always.”
“Look, I know Amla’s omnipotent and all, but maybe I can help you. He’s busy talking to the other Detached, so we can come up with a plan in case things don’t go well.”
“Really? And what do you know about the Detached?” He sneered, and Christi hated that he could go from a grieving parent to a jerk warlord so quickly.
She crossed her arms. “I’ve known Amla for a lot longer than you. He’s been bothering me for almost fifteen years now. I know how to hurt a Detached.”
“They can’t get hurt.”
“If a Detached uses a weapon against another Detached, they can’t heal themselves, and have to ask another to heal them. It also makes it difficult for them to use their powers.” She tossed her blaster over to him, and he caught it easily. “Just have the little one have their fingers on the trigger when you fire it, and you should be able to take him down for a few seconds.”
Though he looked wary of her idea, he held it close to Sweetling. They grabbed it, their fingers wrapping around the trigger. He put one finger over theirs. “I suppose it won’t hurt to try… But what are we supposed to do after that? He’ll get healed, and just come back to kill her.”
“He might change his mind if he knows they can hurt him. He’s always given up whenever I bested him.”
“We can do it, Mommy!”
“I hope we can…”
-
Christi woke up abruptly from her nap when she was suddenly dropped into a chair. When she opened her eyes, she was in one of the conference rooms on her ship. Across from her, Praetorian Kreax was sitting in another chair, holding onto Sweetling. He was staring at the end of the table, eyes wide with fear.
At the end of the table was Amla, scowling as he always did when he’d had a long talk with the other Detached.
He sighed, and then gave them both his standard eerie grin. “Well, well, well… I took your advice, Captain, and spoke with the others. As usual, you are nothing short of brilliant, and always find a solution to my problems.”
“And?” She couldn’t tell what he was going to say next. The Detached were extremely unpredictable when they all gathered together to agree on something.
He looked over at Sweetling, and Christi realized his eyes were completely black, not a single star in them.
“We agreed that it isn’t worthy enough to be one of us. It’s weak, an embarrassment.” He clapped his hands together, grin growing wider. “I’ve been told by everyone to eliminate it.”
Kreax leapt to his feet, drawing the blaster. “I won’t let you kill our child!”
“Oh, please, my darling. Now isn’t the time for games… Wait… My dear, darling Praetorian, could you possibly be attached to our child?”
“They’re our child!”
“You’re… actually attached to it…” A few stars returned to his eyes, but he shook his head and got ready to wave his arm.  “W-well, no matter. We can work through this together.”
Sweetling grabbed the blaster, and Kreax immediately aimed and pulled the trigger. Amla smiled, but then shouted as the bolt ripped into his abdomen. He leaned against the table, one hand going to the wound. When he lifted his hand, it was covered in silver blood.
“What…?”
“I won’t let you kill them.”
“Praetorian…” Amla stood up straight, eyes pure black once more. “You should really know better than that.”
The weapon disappeared from Kreax’s hand, and then Amla cut his arm through the air. Sweetling slowly vanished.
“No!” Christi yelled, but found herself bound to her chair by an invisible force.
Kreax stood there for a moment, a stunned expression on his face. Then, he sunk to his knees, silent.
Amla went to take a step forward, but winced, clutching at his injury. He limped closer and knelt down on one knee. “Kreax?”
“You… you killed them,” he said, a numb confirmation.
The stars were reappearing in Amla’s eyes by the dozens. He frowned, and looked at the floor. “Yeah. I guess so. Huh… I feel weird. My chest hurts, and I feel sick. Is that normal for being shot?”
“No.”
“Huh.” Amla rubbed his chest. “I’ve never felt like this before.”
Kreax looked at him, eyes empty. “That’s guilt.”
“That’s silly. I’m Detached. We’re not attached to anything.”
“They were part of you.”
His eyes were now even more full of stars than Sweetling’s. “I’m going to go get healed now.”
“Don’t come back.”
“Hm? Why wouldn’t I? We’re going to have another baby soon. I don’t want to miss that.”
Kreax spoke slowly, “I don’t want you… anywhere near our child, ever. In fact, I’d like to go home, raise the baby, and die, without ever seeing you again.”
Amla searched his face, his eyes full of star clusters so congested they almost made a patch over the void behind them. “Oh. I can’t see the baby?”
“That’s right.”
“Huh. But what about deciding whether or not it can be Detached? How can I make that decision if I’ve never seen them?”
“Wasn’t killing our firstborn enough for you?”
His eyes were almost completely white. The last few bits of black disappeared, and he got on both knees, sitting back. “But I want to be there for the baby.”
“Then you shouldn’t have killed my child,” Kreax hissed.
“Nn… Stop saying that. It’s making it hurt more. It’s not like I can bring it back. We have rules about the dead.”
“Then just leave.”
“No. Not until you say I can be there for the baby.”

Title: Puzzle (Part 1/2)
Pairing: Rick Sanchez/Reader
Rating: General (warnings: mentions/hints towards domestic abuse)
Summary: You never really expected anyone to care, least of all Rick Sanchez, your bestfriend’s grandpa.
Word count: 1,081
A/N: ___ = Your name. I imagine you and Morty are seniors in high school.
Rick knows the signs like the back of his hand, just as you'd expect a worldly, impressive scientist to. Initially, he just does not string the proof together. They're random pieces, not seeming to fit together like a jigsaw puzzle until the end.
You wear long sleeves like that is all the Goodwill sells. Always clean, always fitting or too large, never too tight nor small. At first this seems normal––After all, the weather calls for warm attire. Its been a chilly Spring and the rain hasn't let up since February. However, when the temperature begins to climb and reach near summer heat, you realize that long sleeves are...questionable.
No one asks, at least not for a while. Either they do not care or do not want to ask, maybe they assume you have a disfigurement, or perhaps you are such a background character to everyone's lives that they don't even notice.
You hardly begin to care anymore, until a particular trip to the Smith's household.
You're spending the night (again) and laughing at something Morty muttered under his breath about Jerry's dad-joke. The air is light, the food is hot, and the company is good. Even Rick, your best friend's eccentric grandpa, is seemingly in a good mood. For a long time the conversation stays light.
“___,” Beth says over the rim of her wine glass. Her eyes are trained on your green shirt, long sleeves going down to your wrists. “Aren't you warm in that?”
You clear your throat and shrug, placing a careful (well trained) nonchalant smile on your face, “Not really, Mrs. Smith. I'm always cold, actually.”
Its a bold face lie, but you're small and its believable. At least, you hope so.
“Are you sure sweetie?” The concern is poorly hidden in Beth's tone.
You can just imagine it now, the thought process in her mind. You're poor, perhaps you can't afford the proper seasonal attire. Or perhaps the stories she's overheard eavesdropping on Morty's room during sleepovers about your father's rage or your mother's absence leads her to believe you aren't allowed the proper clothes.
Beth adds a, “Morty and Summer I'm sure both have spare tee shirts they'd be willing to loan you if you change your mind.”
Summer just rolls her eyes over her phone screen, “Sure, fine, whatever.” And Morty nods eagerly, always willing to help his friends when he could.
Your smile becomes a smidgen tighter and you shake your head, “Thank you so much, Mrs. Smith. But, really, I'm fine.”
Rick doesn't pause in eating his dinner, but you notice he is suspiciously quiet during the exchange.
–------------
Your first adventure with Rick Sanchez and Morty Smith is, of course, an intergalactic disaster in an alien forest that rivaled the redwoods back on earth.
You're running (faster, faster, dodge!) from six limbed parasitical anthropomorphic deer-people, their guns aimed and ready to kill. Morty is a few steps ahead, Rick behind you, and your lungs are burning. They're burning and your feet hurt, but god damnit if this was how you were going to go––That this was going to be your first and last trip into space.
You pick up speed, determination coloring your thoughts. You look around wildly, Morty is yelling something over the gunshots and screeching from your attackers. You enter a clearing in the thicket of trees, the ship right in the center like a beacon of hope.
“We made it!” You shout, Rick's sarcastic response lost to Morty's voice carrying over the cacophony with warnings and stutters.
“____! B-B-Be careful of the––of the––“ Morty's words are cut short as your shirt is snagged by a stray branch of some alien tree. You yelp, flung back by the force, and Rick runs right past you. Morty is already inside the ship, frantically searching for a gun, taking cover behind the tarnished seats. You see Morty find one and aim at some of the closer alien species, shouting for Rick to be careful, to go back and fucking save you, w-what the fuck.
Theres a moral debate, its colored easily on Rick's face before he turns around and frantically starts shouting some indistinguishable nonsense. You're picking, pulling, praying your shirt to come lose, to fucking let you go because shit they're closing in––
“W-We gotta get out of here, you hear me? We-We-We gotta fucking get in the ship before they grab us otherwise we're j-ju-URP-just going to be dinner, you got that? You hear me, ___?”
You nod, heart pounding as you're trying to get your shirt free still, panic bubbling up your throat and suffocating you, you're going to puke or pass out or worse, cry. Rick sighs, aggravated, and tears at eh fabric despite your protests.
“T-This isn't anytime for fucking modesty, ___! Do you wa-want to live or not?”
Morty is holding back the parasitic deers as best he can, shouting for you and Rick to please just hurry it up! And Rick makes quick work of your shirt.
Your eyes drop low as bruises coloring your upper and lower arm are revealed, dark and splattered like bad finger paint. Rick's hand pauses for less than a second, blue eyes meeting yours briefly, before dropping back down and pushing you towards the ship. It was all so quick neither of you are sure what transpired actually transpired.
As you both swing inside the spaceship you're careful to keep your arm hidden from Morty, shame turning your cheeks pink.
The ship's top shuts and Rick jerks you all into the air with the bravado of a madman, just as the deer-people close in on the ship, pounding and shooting with fervor.
In minutes you're back in the cosmos.
“M-Man, geez, that was––___, that was a c-close one.” Morty sighs, turning around in his seat to give you a lopsided grin, “I'm glad you're o-okay though.”
Theres minimal discussion as all three of you are exhausted, crashing from your adrenaline highs. Morty is the first and only one to fall asleep, light snoring thrumming through the ship. You're too shaken up to sleep and instead simply stare out the window. You get swept along amongst the stars, planets, and asteroids.
Your thoughts are interrupted as a white coat hits you in the face. You pick it up and inspect it curiously, “Rick, what––?”
“Your shirt got rippe-ripped, use that to stay warm for now.” Rick says simply, “Its all I can––URP––All I can offer or what-whatever.”
You purse your lips but put the labcoat on, noting the stench of alcohol and chemicals emitting from it. However, it is warm and will cover your bruising and thats enough to make up for the smell.
Before you can muster up the courage to breech the topic of what Rick may or may not have seen or understood, you feel yourself drifting off into a light sleep. The last thing you hear before you close your eyes is the telltale metal on metal clink as Rick uncaps his flask and takes a long swig.

Do Cardiologists recommend Home Blood Pressure Monitoring ? + $100 Giveaway
Do Cardiologists recommend Home Blood Pressure Monitoring ? + $100 Giveaway
Today’s discussion of  ” Do Cardiologists recommend Home Blood Pressure Monitoring ?” is brought to you by Omron Healthcare.
I recently interviewed renowned Dr. James Rippe, M.D., Cardiologist, Founder and Director of the Rippe Lifestyle Institute. He commented on patients taking their blood pressure at home and the usefulness for the medical community of such data. His answers address the question ” Do Cardiologists recommend Home Blood Pressure Monitoring ? ”
This is my fourth blog post about the Omron EVOLV.  The Omron EVOLV is a portable, wireless upper-arm blood pressure monitor that is clinically validated for accuracy and has received FDA clearance. With no tubes, wires or tabletop unit, the new sleek, one-piece EVOLV blood pressure monitor easily fits on the upper arm and clearly displays a blood pressure reading on the face of the device with a press of a button.
In my first article, I took the Going for Zero Pledge, where I pledged to exercise, eat smart, kick the habits, stifle the stress and monitor my blood pressure regularly. In my second blog post, I explored the question “Where can I find an easy to use at-home blood pressure monitor?” For my third article,  I explored the Top 5 Things to Know about Home Blood Pressure Monitoring.  I also posted a video where I demonstrated how to use the Omron Home Blood Pressure monitor.
Do Cardiologists recommend Home Blood Pressure Monitoring ?
Responses attributed to: Dr. James Rippe, M.D. Renowned Cardiologist and Founder and Director of the Rippe Lifestyle Institute on 7.2.18
1) As a healthcare provider, what benefit can you realize in patient care from the Omron Evolv home blood pressure monitor and the Omron App?
Knowing your numbers allows you to get a better sense of the actual state of your heart health. Typically, most people only get their blood pressure checked during their annual doctor’s visit, but this only provides a snapshot in time of your blood pressure. Monitoring regularly with a device like the Omron Evolv lets you find whether you usually skew higher or lower on a day-to- day basis. The Omron Evolv allows you to store, track and share your heart health data via the Omron Connect App, which helps patients have ongoing conversations with their doctors and provides a convenient way for patients to show their doctor the information collected from the app.
2) As a healthcare provider, how could your patients best utilize the Omron Evolv to aid you in their healthcare?
If you’re in the hypertensive range, you should first consult your physician to determine a plan that works best for you. The early stages of hypertension can often be managed with simple lifestyle tweaks, which is where home blood pressure monitoring comes in. First, know your numbers. If you aren’t regularly monitoring your blood pressure at home, during different times of the day, you won’t be able to track your heart health trends accurately. Do you tend to be on the high side at night, or in the mornings? Are your average readings generally normal, with one or two spikes due to stressful events? Having more accurate data is the best way to help your physician know the total picture – leading to better treatment plans and better outcomes. Consider purchasing a home blood pressure monitor so you can keep track of your numbers at all times. Omron home blood pressure monitors are the number 1 doctor and pharmacist recommended brand 1 .
Secondly, speak to your doctor regularly. Having an ongoing dialogue with your physician about your heart health and blood pressure is really the best way to know if you are having a good handle on your condition, or if your treatment plan needs to be tweaked. Share your blood pressure trends with him/her regularly and let your doctor know if there have been major changes in your life or health that could affect your condition. There are now heart health apps available that help you store, track and share your heart health data with ease, such as the Omron Connect App – it links with all connected Omron blood pressure monitors, so you can sync your readings, track them over time and share them electronically with your physicians.
3) Can a patient actually FEEL their blood pressure rising? Would that be a good time to take their blood pressure?
It is uncommon for a patient to feel their blood pressure rising. Most people who have high blood pressure do not have symptoms, which is why it is often referred to as the “silent killer.” Sometimes, the first sign that someone has high blood pressure is a major cardiac event like a heart attack or stroke. That is why it is important to monitor blood pressure every day to track when your blood pressure is too high and it helps you stay ahead of any potential issues, so you can work with your physician to be more proactive about your care and lifestyle habits.
4) Blood pressure rises with stress, caffeine and other indicators correct? So if that is true, is it valid to take your home blood pressure reading when you are experiencing these situations? What blood pressure reading are the most valid for your purposes?
Your blood pressure can spike when you’re feeling stressed, after you’ve had caffeine, or if there’s something new happening in your life. If you’re noticing that your blood pressure is typically in the normal range, but with a few spikes here and there, try keeping a log of these activities before each reading.
Measure your blood pressure in the morning before eating or taking any medications, and the second in the evening. Each time you measure, take two or three readings to make sure your results are accurate. These readings are valid because they help determine the lifestyle habits that affect your blood pressure most, but they are not a full picture of your heart health. Your doctor might recommend taking your blood pressure at the same times each day.
If higher blood pressure readings are consistently appearing in your monitoring, consult your physician to see if there are steps you can take to lower your blood pressure.
5) If a patient takes their blood pressure every day and there are occasional elevated or hypertensive zone meanings, is that a concern from your perspective?
If you’re noticing that your blood pressure is typically in the normal range, but with a few spikes here and there, try keeping a log of your activities before each reading. This can help you pinpoint what may be causing your blood pressure to increase, so you can be proactive about keeping it normal. If higher blood pressure readings are consistently appearing in your monitoring, consult your physician to see if there are steps you can take to lower your blood pressure.
6) If I maintain a low blood pressure, does that mean I will not experience heart attacks or strokes?
Low blood pressure is often associated with being of good health and a lower risk of heart attacks, but there are still risks associated with hypotension – when your blood pressure is consistently lower than normal (below 90/60). Continuous low blood pressure or a sudden drop in blood pressure can lead to severe health problems. In serious cases, low blood pressure can decrease oxygen supply and nutrients to the brain, which can be life-threatening, but normal cases may not have any symptoms or require treatment at all. It’s important to discuss your blood pressure with your doctor to decide what’s right for your needs. 3
The best blood pressure range to aim to be in is the Normal range, as set out by the hypertension guidelines by the American Heart Association and American College of Cardiology.

7) Finally, what do you see as the future for Home Blood Pressure testing and its role in a patient’s health?
Heart disease claims millions of lives. Heart attack and stroke are often preventable if people are aware of the risk. One of the most important ways to prevent hypertension is to monitor your blood pressure – if you know your numbers, you’ll know if you need to make these lifestyle changes that can positively impact your blood pressure, and thus lower your risk of heart attack and stroke. This is especially important if you have a genetic predisposition to hypertension, or a family history of the condition, to know your numbers and make better health decisions to reduce your risk.
If you don’t know your numbers, you won’t know if you are at a higher risk of a serious cardiac event like a heart attack or stroke. Purchasing a blood pressure monitor for yourself to use at home will be one of the best investments you’ll ever make for your own heart health. Home blood pressure monitoring is becoming easier, more convenient and more portable than ever before. Patients no longer need to go to the doctor’s office to check on the state of their health – they can do so easily in the comfort of their own homes. Instead of only periodically checking their health states, they can now be able to regularly monitor their heart health and take action if needed. This puts the power in the hands of consumers to understand and take control of their heart health.
