Does anyone else think it's absolutely heartbreaking that Gosalyn's most treasured keepsake of her grandfather is tainted by the guy they thought was a trusted friend, but betrayed them both? It's bad enough Gosalyn was forced to sacrifice her only chance at finding Dr. Waddlemeyer in whatever dimension Bulba banished him to, but she could never again look at that photo of her and her grandfather together without being reminded that Bulba tore them apart. 😭😭😭
The symbolism in the photo is very telling. Bulba is literally standing between Gosalyn and Dr. Waddlemeyer, and he literally came between them with his treachery.

For Jim: Have you thought of still using the Negaduck costume but as a heroic or anti-heroic figure?
Jim: Absolutely not. My therapist said that if I were to put on the Negaduck costume, even if it were for good works, I might succumb to my psychosis once more and fall into a manic stage. It is beneficial to my mental health and my career as an actor to never put on the Negaduck costume.
Also Jim:

Negaduck (to Darkwing): I think that puts my score to 12 and you only at 10. I'm catching more badguys than you.
Darkwing: You SOB.

Negaduck In Let's Get Dangerous
Awe man so I had heard before that Bulba was supposed to get arrested and Negaduck would take over as the antagonist for part 2 of Let's Get Dangerous but I actually found some of the story boards today and man it was so much cooler! https://www.dianahuh.com/ducktales-storyboards
Tumblr media
I heard the main writing reason was it would be better to leave him as a roaming threat than do a disservice to his character by trying to squeeze him in but I disagree.
There were plenty of ways to write him in well. Hell, you can even make it a bit that he would get annoyed after there was too much Gos/DW/LP bonding that takes away his screen time.
I think it would just be fun for this character who is known by writers to take up way to much of an episode to finally have to deal with the fact he can't take up the whole episode. Would add some comedy in my opinion. (Even if it's just done through split second facial expressions due to time restraints).
I also think it didn't fit Bulba's or The Fearsome Four's characters. Why would Bulba use The Fearsome Four? I guess spite but that sprite fits Negaduck waaaaay more. The Fearsome Four also have absolutely zero reason to follow Bulba blindly like they do.
They just feel like zombies at certain points in the episode. Why would they follow this guy who just pulled them from their home?
Them following Negaduck makes much more sense. Yes he would have done the same thing as Bulba but he has the added bonus of being an evil Darkwing. That enough would probably entertain The Fearsome Four enough to stay. Negaduck is also known to threaten their lives when they step out of line, one threatening chainsaw and they're in.
Either way I just think it was a cool idea and would of been cool to keep. Part of me is just salty to never see him again because I absolutely adored the idea of Jim Starling.
(Also yes I heard about the Jim Cummings divorce shit and honestly I don't care, just recast him if you really needed to. Liquidator was already recast from his Beware of the BUDDY System appearance.)
Anyway though, it is very poetic how the show was canceled before Jim's story could be wrapped up yet again.

Oh yeah since I've added him "officially" lemme talk about Darkwing Duck/Drake Mallard. Rn I only have the 2017 version of Ellie Cooper figured out, so that's the version I'll talk about.
(not long but still felt appropriate)
Ellie and Drake/DW have a sort of funny thing going on for a while. Ellie has no idea that they're the same person, she just believes that Launchpad and Gwendolyn are friends with them both. She ends up sort of crushing on them both, Drake falling for them as well. (There is absolutely a scene where Ellie makes a comment about how DW is cute and Drake spits out his coffee or something)
While being "normal," Drake he finds himself stumbling over words more, being more awkward and nerdy that he'd like to be in from of them. While Darkwing Duck however he finds himself more bold, more confident as Ellie has a huge thing for superheroes. Once he finally makes the connection that she liked both versions of him, he finally came clean and revealed who he was, and BAM relationship yippee
Oh also they absolutely do the spiderman upside down kiss thing

Gosalyn, Gandra, Fenton, and the Solego Circuit
So, in this post and this post, I talked about the ways the twist reveal about Gandra's secret relationship with Fenton and her secretly being good came off as clunky and confusing when it was revealed in 'Beaks In the Shell.'
But one thing I want to specifically focus on is her role in sabotaging what was perhaps Gosalyn's only chance at finding her grandfather in whatever dimension he was stuck in.
At the end of 'Let's Get Dangerous', Darkwing urged Gos not to give up on trying to get back her grandfather, saying "Launchpad knows some super scientists!" (implying that Team Science might help, eeeeeee), and then promised he'd help her find him. The Solego Circuit and its plans- one of the Missing Mysteries, and the key that could open doorways to other dimensions- was left with Darkwing (even tho Gosalyn was forced to destroy the Ramrod machine, which needed the Solego Circuit to bring in things and people from other dimensions; it was still their only hope, and they probably planned to use the plans for the Solego Circuit to build a new device like the Ramrod).
In the episode right after that one, 'Escape From the ImpossiBin', Bradford had Gandra hack into the Bin's new-and-improved, so-called impenetrable security system while Scrooge and some of the family were testing it, which turned out to be an elaborate distraction to keep the Ducks busy so that F.O.W.L. could steal the Missing Mysteries the family had found so far...
Tumblr media
...including the Solego Circuit and its plans, Gosalyn's only hope of recovering her grandfather. In St. Canard, Steelbeak got the drop on Darkwing at his hideout and stole them:
Tumblr media
(Darkwing: *on the phone to Scrooge* "...Some bruiser with a steel beak!")
Tumblr media
("Didn't catch his name. Stole the Solego Circuit plans!")
Here's the thing, though. In 'Let's Get Dangerous', it was established that Darkwing and Fenton talked all night for days, trying to figure out a way to get Gosalyn's grandpa back (Darkwing was presumably friends with Fenton- who designed his AI supercomputer and crime-fighting tech- through Launchpad, but I digress). And, like I said, it was implied at the end of that episode that Fenton (along with the help of Team Science) would continue to help Darkwing and Gos save Dr. Waddlemeyer.
Tumblr media
I know Gandra had no real loyalty to F.O.W.L. (she was only following orders, and had to make it appear to them she was really on their side for her safety) and was secretly in a relationship with Fenton, and was using the money she got from F.O.W.L. to help build her and Fenton's top-secret VR project, and planned to quit as soon as it was finished... but even though it wasn't entirely Gandra's fault, did Fenton know she was partly responsible for Gosalyn losing her only chance at getting her grandfather back?? I'm sure he at least knew the Solego plans were stolen, since Darkwing was in regular contact with him. And since Fenton wanted to help Gosalyn get her grandfather back, I'm sure he felt terrible for her!
Honestly, I think Gandra probably did tell Fenton she had no choice but to follow Bradford's orders to distract the Ducks so that F.O.W.L. could steal the found Missing Mysteries, and I'm sure she felt really bad about Gosalyn too- she probably knew about Gos from Fenton- and I'm sure Fenton still understood that Gandra was in a difficult position. It's a really interesting conflict/drama I wish they would've had time to talk about in either 'Beaks In the Shell' or 'The Last Adventure'; it definitely would have been something to bring up in a fourth season!
This makes things even more difficult when you think about how grateful Gosalyn was to Fenton for his efforts in trying to help her get her grandpa back. It was implied in 'The Last Adventure' that Gosalyn knew how badly Fenton was missing his girlfriend (heck, Fenton talked to Drake and Launchpad about how worried he was about her at the beginning of that episode) in the scene where the kids insisted on coming with the adults to storm the Lost Library:
Tumblr media
(Gosalyn: "Fenton tried to help me get my people back. I'm gonna to the same for him!")
I mean, I'm sure Gosalyn knew by then that Fenton's girlfriend was a former F.O.W.L. agent who betrayed F.O.W.L. and got captured for it (Drake and Launchpad knew, according to their convo with Fenton in the beginning of this episode, and the twist about Gandra really being good was known ever since 'Beaks In the Shell;' and in 'The Last Adventure', she was even included on Webby's extensive family board). But did she actually know about Gandra's role in the Solego plans getting stolen?? Because if she did- even though Fenton had tried to help Gosalyn- how didn't she feel betrayed by him (one of Darkwing Duck's closest friends and allies, no less) for secretly associating with not only an 'enemy' the whole time, but one who played a significant part in dashing her last hope of getting her grandfather back? How didn't Darkwing feel betrayed by his friend, since he vowed to help Gos find a way to bring her grandfather??
And yes, they likely recovered all the Missing Mysteries- including the Solego key and plans- when they left the Lost Library in the end of 'The Last Adventure' (even tho it wasn't actually shown).

With Twisted Strings of Fate finished, I've been wanting to get back into a habit of drawing. I haven't done anything in months, and I finally figured out that I've been having a little anxiety about it. It feels strange how my mind is reacting to something that I've loved so much and that I've been doing for over a decade. I think it has to do with the new tablet I bought. It's a bit intimidating. I'm hoping to do a few fun pictures might loosen up my mood.
I was working on a quick Darkwing Duck peice, and I accidentally did this while working on the effects. I thought it looked cool, so I wanted to share it. It's obviously not done, but it's still appealing.
