Double standards and examples everywhere in this video!
So many to unpack...the ones that stood out to me the most:
The Man being celebrated in the workplace while the women are all his subordinates, one even raising a coffee mug to “The Man”
The classic trophy wife scenario, while if a woman marries or dates younger she is a cougar or a cradle robber...
The single dad being celebrated as a hero while single moms struggle every day and don’t get any special recognition, it’s just “their job as a parent”.
Women being used as objects for men’s pleasure...
Men getting all the credit for women’s success..
Men using clout from raising money for “women’s charities” to pat themselves on the back when they really have no interest in supporting women...
The ending is the best though.
@taylorswift my brain reads this as “Anything you can do I can do BETTER” not the other way around. GREAT JOB! CONGRATULATIONS on an iconic video! 👏🏻👏🏻 This was definitely worth the wait!
Hi @taylorswift! I hope you are well. It's Rachel and my sister, Nicole @nightskyswift89 I've been meaning to write this post for a while now. Some people have asked me what my username means and I wanted to write about it. 😊💖 My only and younger sister Nicole and I grew up together with your music. I first heard Teardrops on My Guitar when I was in highschool in 2006 and Nicole was six. At the time I was in a relationship with a guy who was controlling and emotionally abusive. He always made fun of me for listening to your music and would try to force me not to. I listened to your music anyways because what kind of person tries to keep you from happiness? 😒 (That relationship is long over thank God) Despite the struggles of growing up in the 90's and 2000's, my sister and I formed a close bond with your music. We would jam to all your hits at home with the volume up super high, in the car on long or short road trips, in the back yard by bonfires, and while hanging out with friends. 🎶 Being an older sister meant that I really wanted someone positive and inspiring for my younger sister to look up to. I wanted her to feel confident, strong, and able to SHAKE OFF anything that came her way. While your music helped me through the ups and downs of life like anxiety, college, breakups, death etc...it also brought us closer as siblings. 💕 You showed us both how to be strong, unstoppable women in a rather challenging world. We grew up together with you and are so proud of how far you've come. So, I chose my username for the two people in my life that mean a lot to me. You, Taylor, and my sister Nicole who I love so dearly. Thank you so much for everything! We love you so much! 💖💖💖 @taylornation
Taylor, I will never be able to express how much gratitude I feel that you gave a voice to victims everywhere, not only at your sexual assault trial, but in Miss Americana. Thank you for standing up for what you believe in, and most importantly, for standing up for yourself, because I know first hand that isn't easy to do.
Please know, as one victim to another, you gave us all hope 🥺. I love you so much ❤️
This was written by Laura Donovan with Romper magazine. I am one of the 10 fans she wrote about! I appreciate this so much and I’m sure the other 9 Swifties are just as appreciative.
I hope you get to read these one day @taylorswift and see how you have impacted our lives. We love you! ♥️🤍🖤
Where do I begin! I remember before I turned 30 I felt like it was such a huge number. Instead of celebrating my 30th I threw myself a HUGE party for my 29th birthday in Atlantic City with my best friends. That birthday was WILD and so much fun and the last one I spent single. The irony is that it was a good summary of my 20s. What I never imagined is that my next decade would be everything I ever hoped for. I met my husband when I was 29. In my 30s I got married, had 2 beautiful children, really became comfortable with who I was, more assertive of my worth at my job, and realized what I really wanted in my life. I just turned 40 in August and I can honestly say I don’t know what my fears were about turning 30, it seemed like a big deal at the time but in hindsight I didn’t know the best was yet to come.
Taylor, as you enter your 30s I can already see in interviews that you’re well on your way to where my journey took me in my 30s. Recently you’ve said you can work as much as you want to, you know what you can handle and don’t want to burn yourself out. You’re taking more time for family. Using your voice to speak up for what’s right. My life mirrored this so much in my 30s. I am so excited to see where this next decade takes you!
My friends and I (28 of us) made you a birthday gift and sent it to your fanmail address. It contained some really special items one of which was rare but we thought you’d REALLY love. We know it was delivered but obviously don’t know if you’ve received or opened it so I won’t ruin any surprises. I just want to say I really hope you got it and love everything!!!
We all love you so much and hope you have an AMAZING 30th birthday!
One last thing I have for you; my girls wanted to wish you a Happy Birthday! Check out their message below!
Hi @taylorswift! All these swifties want to say that we love and support you! We will stand by you no matter what. 💖 Thank you for creating incredible music and bring us all together. ✨ @taylornation
Miss Americana wasn't showing in Boston so an amazing group of Swifties brought Miss Americana to us by renting out a private theater to all watch together 🙌
And I finally got to meet @jackie-the-teacher ♥️. I've never had Swiftie friends so thank you Taylor for bringing us all together! 🥰
