{Theory} Gast fundamentally influenced Sephiroth

In a recent post by @level99challenge http://level99challenge.tumblr.com/post/168874420579/sephiroth-dont-ever-let-anyone-say-im-not-a two scenes from FF7 illustrate Sephiroth's concern and thoughtfulness towards others. People such as Cloud go on and on about how strong Sephiroth is while people such as Tifa go on and on about how cold Sephiroth is. Everyone else is either frightful of him or think he's this blood-thirsty killer. Oh how these people fail to look beneath the surface.

We must start at the beginning.

Gast, head of the science department, unearthed Jenova, whom he thought was a Cetra. Cetra are capable of speaking to the planet. Thus, infusing human embryo cells with Jenova cells would produce a being capable of speaking to the planet which in turn would lead Shinra to their version of the Promised Land; a land of infinite money-making mako. This was the original intent of Sephiroth's existence. However, Sephiroth is unable to speak to the planet, but they had another use for him; war. We all could imagine how treacherous Sephiroth's childhood from the physical abuse, emotional abuse and neglect, deceit, etc. For a child who is made to witness death, be the cause of death, be surrounded by so much hatred and witness the blood covering his hands, Sephiroth should have been a much crueler person. That's why I believe Gast had a much larger role in Sephiroth's life than we think. In this realm, the first few years of a child's life are absolutely critical for bonding. The core personality is also formed during those first few years. This is key to Sephiroth's development. As head of the science department just how much interaction did Gast have with Sephiroth? Despite not knowing the answer, to me it seems this man has been a large part of Sephiroth's formative years, so much so that his core personality was formed from it. Throughout parts of FF7 and CC, Sephiroth shows concern, thoughtfulness, and empathy towards others. He even educates others, providing wisdom and knowledge on various subject matters. Where does all that come from? I find it hard to believe that his military up-bringing bothered to teach him that. Hojo taught Sephiroth that emotions are a hindrance and therefore are not necessary. Any other personal within Shinra who interacted with Sephiroth would have taught him concepts such as hard work, discipline, how to read your opponent, the art of war, etc. However, what exactly has Gast taught Sephiroth? The positive character traits that make up Sephiroth's core personality. If it weren't for Gast paving Sephiroth's personality in some capacity through his ways and actions, I truly believe Sephiroth would've been a different man. Beneath the aloofness, introversion, grit and professionalism lies a warm personality that resonates among the same frequency as Gast's.
