Dirty Pair (1985 anime)
S1:E7 - “Love is Everything. Risk Your Life to Elope!!”
(Watch the clip here)
This mid-80′s anime really said trans rights 🏳️⚧️
And interestingly enough, Joanca was voiced by Masako Katsuki, who would go on to voice another groundbreaking LGBTQ+ character nearly a decade later… Michiru Kaioh/Sailor Neptune!
"You can tell that there was a wealth of love that went into making this film so I hope people can take just a little bit of that love out with them." - Eugene Lee Yang | Go Behind The Animation for Nimona
I heard that some people were worried about animated shows with LGBT+ themes being cancelled so i want to remind you all that the Nimona film is coming this summer to Netflix
This film was originally produced by Blue Sky studios and was later pushed back by Disney because of the LGBT+ themes. The production was taken later by other studio unrelated to Disney. The film is an adaptation of the comic "Nimona".
The premise goes like this:
"Nimona, a teenager with the power to shapeshift, is targeted by a knight for assassination. The knight's mission to kill Nimona becomes complicated when he is accused of a crime, and learns that Nimona may be able to exonerate him."
So, if you happen to have Netflix and are interested, please check this movie out. Specially considering how it was treated by Disney.
I really don't get sometimes how fans of the Joker miss the fact that whether they like it or not Harley Quinn saved his ass. Cause there's a chance DC would have had to shelve the Joker as a villain in order to avoid alienating their queer and leftist readers if she hadn't been created to distract from the fact that he was a very obviously queer-coded villain with absolutely NO redeeming features in what was not only the AIDS pandemic but also the worst decades for queer hate crimes since the Holocaust. Like he was a rapist (The Killing Joke) who killed children (A Death In The Family) for fuck's sake. And meanwhile Captain America was off saving his best bud's boyfriend👌🏻
And if you have an issue with the Joker being bisexual because of Harley's introduction to the Batfam -- guess what, peeps? He already was as was established in the 1988 graphic novel Batman: The Killing Joke where it was revealed that before becoming the Joker he had been married to a woman and he then proceeded to rape Barbara Gordon.
Really? You don't think it has anything to do with the fact that Disney deliberately sabotaged a film of theirs portraying a loving and healthy biracial family with an openly gay teenaged son by giving it no promoting whatsoever? Don't you think it might have something to do with that rather than Disney trying to be "woke"? Okay.
i'm baaaaaaaaack! happy new year :) idk when the next part will be yet but it won't be as long of a wait as this one was. i very much lost steam on this one alongside going thru a bunch of life stuff. i made this part because people got confused about why eddie was acting like he didnt think richie liked him. i made this part to remind people why he would act that way, not realizing that people were actually confused because the order of events was unclear. all this phone call stuff with beverly is a flashback, before richie even confessed to eddie. whoops. but yeah in retrospect, i kinda worry when the whole thing cuts together that this would be jarring in a tonal/pacing sort of way, but at least we got to see some of the other losers in some compacity, which i know people had been asking about. (plus my voice actors kicked ass, please check them out, especially Mike's actor, who streams on youtube and on twitch)
trigger warning at very bottom
as usual, i voiced richie/eddie/beverly/ben and did all the writing/drawing/editing/etc. if you message me to tell me that you hate a character's voice and that i should recast them as you, i will laugh at you
Trigger warnings - Internalized homophobia, homophobia, gay slur ("fairy"), character(s) have 1980's period typical poor understanding of sexuality and gender (not knowing there is more than simply "gay" or "straight" as well as implied not knowing there is more than the gender binary), misogyny, mocking of Valley Girl accent, song referencing the bombing of Hiroshima by the United States in WWII ("Enola Gay" was adopted by the queer community as an anthem and was chosen for the tone of the melody, but I want to acknowledge the lyrics are in fact about the bomber plane for which the song is named for), a pony pees a considerable amount, arachnophobia/tarantulas/spiders
I just finished watching Nimona on Netflix and it is amazing, and I love the world building, characters and the metal music in the end credits
But what I love most is LGBT and amputee representation
It felt EXCITING 😃 😄 ❤️
Of course, I did read the book a couple of weeks beforehand and it turned out just as amazing just like the book, amazingly is the prejudice and propaganda that our world still faces today
I give it a 1000/1000 ❤❤❤ for animation fans and fans who want stylized animation, I highly recommend it
