🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ PSA on a really important resource for LGBTQ+ youth (or anyone, really)!
It's called imi.guide, and it has mental health guides on stress, stigma, gender, and queerness. Some cool things about it:
It's free!
Was made with LGBTQ+ youth input, so it's actually made for LGBTQ+ youth with LGBTQ+ youth
Has real stories from real queer people
Has a quick exit button so you can exit out with one click/tap
A study showed it boosts positive coping skills/mindsets that are important for supporting the mental health of LGBTQ+ youth.
Has some really cool activities and features like a tool that helps you try out a new name!
Spread the word and reblog, especially for back-to-school season!

I’m taking a mental health break from the Internet.
I think that I’ve been doomscrolling about all of the worst parts about Islam and all of the awful things that Muslims have ever done in history. It’s a habit of doomscrolling about anti-LGBT activities by my fellow Muslims and I think the best instinct in this case of doomscrolling is to just take some time away from the Internet and do off-line activities like reading and drawing and writing. I don’t know how long it’ll last, maybe a few days but I think that I need A break so that my psyche can heal and I can stop obsessing over people who hate me.

Tumblr is currently serving me an ad for "Voda, the LGBTQ mental health app" offering "daily meditations, self-care and AI advice" and as a therapist I am begging you not to download an app where an AI tries to help you with your mental health. Please do not. They tried to have an AI chatbot counsel eating disorder patients and it told them to diet. That shit is not safe. Do not talk to an AI about your mental health please. You don't need to talk to a professional but talk to a PERSON. Edited to add: OK, it's been a long day and I wrote this when I only had the information that was in the ad. It looks like they may not actually have a chatbot, but something that just... churns out pre-programmed advice? That's genuinely a lot safer! But calling it "AI advice" feels a little misleading. This app may be perfectly fine and safe to use, but should probably stick to the fundamentals that people want from a mental health app and not try to use AI hype to market, since the intersection of AI and mental health support is VERY DICEY and bad shit has happened there before. And you should probably do further research on how they are using your data, since that is also an area where mental health support apps have gone bad before.

Glasses
Sometimes, I have to rip off my glasses, and wipe off these damn, eyelashes, witnessing how the Masses, act like asses, and turn into nothing but fascists. The gashes in our hearts and souls, starts making holes, marks, n' bruises, making us feel useless. Confucius says, "If You Hate a Person, You are Defeated by them”, Why is it, you get so heated n cry, "Burn them"? Why not Yearn then? Hate, Hate Hate, Hate!! Wait wait wait, let's get this straight, before it's so late. This pain is a piercing arrow, that burrowed into my Breast place. Why not stop, with the disgrace, enough with the Mace. Why not make this world a peaceful place for the Masses, before this whole world, turns into ashes.

I remember my mum was friends with a "gender counselor". And that said gender counselor talked me out of being nonbinary and into being a trans man. I assumed that since they were a professional they had to be right. So I started wearing my binder more often. Almost every day in fact. Sometimes for more than 8 hours because I felt so dysphoric (don't do this. I ended up with chronic costochondritis). I dressed masc. I got an endocrinologist so I could start T. I tried changing my voice through vocal training videos. I got a top surgery referral. I was doing everything I thought was right.
I was miserable.
It took years to undo the brainwashing she put me through. Making me something I was not. Making me second-guess everything about my identity. It was horrific. She would constantly use he/him pronouns for me. She would constantly refer to me as a man. And she would correct others if they used they/them pronouns for me.
After she was arrested I spent some time really thinking. Why was I so dysphoric all the time? I stared unraveling the rope she used to tie me up. And I found that she was wrong about me. I wasn't a trans man at all. I was nonbinary! The identity I started with. I started using they them pronouns again. I let people know that I wanted to be referred to with gender-neutral terms.
I feel so much more confident in myself.
So I guess the moral of the story is don't let anyone tell you who you are. You know yourself best. Your identity is your journey. Don't let others move you in directions you feel uncomfortable with. You'll be alright. You've got this.

It's really easy to say things like "Mental health matters" and "make sure you're taking time for self care!"
But it's harder to actually do something about it.
So on #MentalHealthAction Day, we wanted to give you something actually tangible you can do to support yourself, right now, or from anywhere: check out imi.guide!
It's a free, online mental health tool made with and for LGBTQ+ youth - our own Youth Voices even got to have an input in creating it, so you know it's legit. It has:
🟣 Guides on stress, queerness, stigma, & gender
🟣 Real stories and videos from LGBTQ+ people
🟣 Mental health tips & resources
🟣 A quick exit button!
A study even indicates that imi "boosts positive coping skills and mindsets that are important for supporting the mental health of LGBTQ+ youth." Yeah, we've got that data.
Take this as your sign it's time to stop scrolling and explore imi.guide here.

11 Tips To Lower Lgbtq Mental Health Risks
Tumblr media
I have had the desire, for some time now, to share my thoughts on a topic that often gets swept under the rug. As a therapist, I know firsthand the impact an individual’s mental health can have on their life and their relationships.
And in the LGBTQ community, we need to address mental health (and what we can do to help) early on before we are in crisis. We must be proactive in treating and caring for our mental health as well as destigmatizing the topic altogether.
Our community faces so many obstacles and so much scrutiny as a minority group already. It’s no wonder so many of our peers are afraid to talk about or address their mental health concerns and their need for mental health care.
Below I share 11 things we can do to address LGBTQ mental health – both within therapy and even through policy and societal changes. I also suggest things parents can do when their children are young to create an open and affirming family culture. In turn, this provides a healthy and safe environment to prevent them from ever feeling afraid to come out or alone in their struggles with mental health
11 Ways To Lower The Mental Health Risks In The LGBTQ Community
At a Social and Family level, work diligently to end the stigma and reduce fears in asking for help with mental health issues such as depression, anxiety, PTSD, suicidal feelings, and shame.
Create a nationwide education initiative (TV, Radio, Schools, Social Media) to teach about the negative impact of rejection, trauma, and isolation for LGBTQ youth (increased mental health issues) AND to teach parents, grandparents, teachers, doctors (adults) how to talk to children about sexual and gender identity in a way that is loving, accepting and affirming.
Parents, read LGBTQ affirming books to your babies and toddlers and speak positively to them about the community.
Parents, take your children to PRIDE festivities starting at a young age.
Parents, tell your children “I love you exactly as you are.” Period. Never tell an LGBTQ child “I love you even though your…”
Older LGBTQ people, make it a point to mentor and support younger LGBTQ folks. They are struggling.
Ensure that all LGBTQ-phobic bullying, harassment, and hate crimes victims are being treated in the same way that a privileged, heteronormative victim would be treated.
Encourage (through funding) LGBTQ mental health solutions research.
Require an LGBTQ cultural-competency curriculum for all medical, counseling/therapy, and education training programs.
Mandate and fund continuing education programs that teach LGBTQ cultural competency for primary care doctors, counselors, therapists, educators, public health providers, and others who serve humanity.
Develop and circulate education programs that teach LGBTQ cultural competency for pastors, priests, churches, synagogues, religious institutions, and bible colleges.
As a community, we have the power to lower the mental health risks and outcomes for LGBTQ youth and adults. Let’s work together to make the necessary family culture, societal, educational, and policy changes. Our community’s mental health depends on it!

I was just beaten, stabbed, and shot all in just the matter of a few days, each day a different incident or attack by an individual in my family and outside of my family by ppl around me, I had to get several stitches in my legs, arms, hands and even some in my face after being jumped and beaten and stabbed, I had a bullet pulled out my leg and my side, I was shot 8 times, 4 times in the legs and 2 times in my right lower abdomen and another 2 times in my left lower abdomen, I been in and out of the hospital including the mental hospital for suicide attempts as well as being harmed by transphobic ppl, I've been struggling paying for costs of a vet visit after my kitten was killed by my moms dog after she had her dog kill her, I've been raped, molested and abused by my family and ppl in my schools and neighborhood and I just get tired of being in this same situation surrounded by poverty, I live in a neighborhood where I'm constantly threatened for being a black trans woman and I have NO ONE TO TURN TO, I've tried getting help finding a new job but it's harder after constantly being fired for molestation at work and sexual harassment and constant work abuse I've been thru whether it was employees or managers targeting me with harassment and bullying within the workplace and it's been hard in general trying to get help with financial situations, paying for medical bills and get med assistance from the government and the city as well as mental health help for therapists, psychiatric help, and safe space havens or shelters, I've also been from mental health facility shelter to homeless shelters and been harassed, abused, raped and molested in EVERY SINGLE ONE, i am currently living in a rundown home surrounded by poverty and bad conditions, rusted bursted pipes, i have no plumbing, no water, no way to get anything to drink, to clean stuff with, i dont have water for dishes to be cleaned, laundry to be washed, or to bathe or shower in or to take a piss or shit in either and there are several dead cats in my basement as well as raccoons from all the holes in the walls, I had to freeze in the winter and was trying to get help from the city with some government assistance and I'VE YET TO GET ANY HELP, ANY THERAPISTS FOR MY MENTAL HEALTH I'M STILL ON A QUEUE, I HAVE NO HELP FOR MENTAL HEALTH MEDS, OR PSYCHIATRIC HELP, I can't seem to afford to get help with much even after succeeding my Gofundme goal because I had to use most of that money for food for me and my cats and keep cleaning products to get my home clean WHICH IS STILL A MESS. so what i need anyone to do for me if yall POSSIBLY CAN, is reblog this as much as you can and please share my links to donation help with pet food, water, meds, med help, mental health help, finding an apartment, getting a bed or mattress, and any daily needs and necessities IF YALL CAN.
My goal is to get at least $2500 to $3000, I know it's alot but rn I need as much as I can possibly get, yall can send anything, nothing is too small it's ALL APPRECIATED. IF PPL CAN SEND AT LEAST 25 OR 30$ EACH IT WOULD HELP OUT SO MUCH, BUT AGAIN ANY AMOUNT IS APPRECIATED. THIS is REALLY IMPORTANT!!....I'M TRYING MY BEST TO SURVIVE RIGHT NOW!

HETEROSEXUAL CIS-PEOPLE LOOK HERE
Tumblr media
Snaps my fingers at you as you scroll past this post
Look at me. Listen.
I'm not the best at serious posts, but that article up there reminded me of how important it is that people like you stand up for us. So hold on while I try to get this out of my mushy end-of-work-day brain.
We could fight this fight ourselves for decades trying to reach the equal laws, gender affirming trans healthcare that doesn't have a 2-5+ soul-eating years of waiting time, medical care with equal knowledge of lgbtqia+ bodies, and, what is often forgotten, inclusion in the little everyday areas of life like our way of speaking or things being set up or designed with the existence of queer people in mind.
But you joining in could get us there so much faster.
The power you have as a hetero cis person is that you set the standard for what is seen as the average way of treating us among other hetero cis people. You have been given the power of deciding what's "normal" and I'm begging you to use it.
Richard Green is a great example of to what extent your actions can help our situation, and smaller ways of support still add up to a great impact on society, and could make the days of the queer people you interact with.
Educate yourself before you speak up, but don't be silent.
