Hi, for the VK guide book, did they mention anything about Northern Wei?
Hi nonnie!
In the Villain Kids’ Guide for New VKs, I don’t recall…..anything about Northern Wei. I did a quick flip through just now, and I’m not seeing any information at all about it, which is interesting because I could swear that I read the name in an official source somewhere. For reference, he’s what I could find on Lonnie’s page in the VK guidebook:
Tumblr media
Badass, good at swords, daughter of Fa Mulan and Li Shang…..great, but not what I’m looking for. Maybe the map will have more info:
Tumblr media
Unfortunately nope! Northern Wei isn’t even LABELED on the map in the VKs guide for new VKs, although it’s probably somewhere along the Great Wall of Auradon, right??
Because I have access to more of the tie-in books, I checked the next most likely source, which was the Secrets of Auradon Prep: An Insider’s Handbook (my copy was bought secondhand so please just ignore the pen marks):
Tumblr media
Nothing on the History of Auradon page, although this map does look a lot like the one I remember from the first movie.
Tumblr media
Fascinatingly, this book DOES have a more detailed map showing what I HOPE are all of the 19 regions. Weirdly, Northern Wei isn’t on them. Although…some of the text is genuinely too small to read even in the printed copy, so I guess the mouse didn’t expect adults with too much time on their hands to try and read into this. A quick journey through the wiki reveals that Lonnie joins the Northern Wei ROAR team, so it’s a place that was confirmed somewhere in canon…or else the wiki is unsourced, which is also entirely possible at this point.
Tumblr media
I went even deeper into the wiki, and on Lonnie’s character page for the main movies, it says that the imperial palace of Northern Wei is mentioned in the Isle of the Lost: A Descendants Novel (the first of the Melissa de la Cruz novels)
so, because I am committed at this point, I grabbed the book. And finally, on page 48:
Tumblr media
The Imperial Palace is confirmed to be book canon, but still no information on Northern Wei.
After some more wiki searching, it looks like the only canon mention of Northern Wei miiiiight be in the Lonnie’s Warrior Sword book, which unfortunately is one of the few that I don’t have access to right now.
So TL;DR, there’s no information on Northern Wei in the Villain Kids’ Guide for New VKs, and also I think there might be a conspiracy against the books giving any actual solid information for the kingdoms outside of Auradon.
hope this….helps?

Do they drive?
Ben, Audrey and Chad have personal drivers.
Audrey is continually drived crazy because the pirates refuse to ride with them, stating „We don't trust him.“ This is made worse by the fact that most of Isle kids can't drive, yet insists on driving anyway. (Ehm, Anthony Tremaine.)
Jordan has never once driven a car in her life and it's probably a good thing.
Ally isn't allowed to drive for safety reasons. She doesn't have the attention span to focus on the road properly and Alice doesn't want to risk it.
Fairy Godmother has the vibe of magicking a vehicle into working itself, pretending she is driving it and being really smug about it. So yeah, Jane doesn't know how cars work.
Lonnie is the driver when the AKs need to go anywhere. Well, her or her brother.
The fact that Ben has a driver will not stop Beast from attempting to make one of the Li siblings the driver and the other the bodyguard. (Joke's on him, the siblings would start a war if they were allowed to work together.)
The designated drivers for the Isle kids are Evie, Uma and Harriet.
No one is sure if Uma and Harriet even have a driver's license. No one is going to ask.
Harry Hook doesn't have a license. This will not stop him from driving, even when Audrey just told him and Uma that they could just call her driver.
„I didn't know you took driving lessons, CJ.“ „A what?“ „Driving lessons? The thing that you need to drive in Auradon?“ „Oh don't worry about that, I have a permit!“ *CJ pulls out a sticky note with „I can do what I wanna!“ scrawled on it. It is signed by King Ben*
None of the de Vil cousins is legally allowed to drive. By that I mean they will be arrested on sight.
Ivy doesn't believe in brakes. Or speed limits. Or red lights. And neither does Diego.
Any vehicle that Carlos would drive is tuned so much that it is a considered a danger to everyone around. He also doesn't believe in red light.
Hunter is red/green colourblind and never learned the order on traffic lights because he only ever rode with his family.
Jay just catches a ride to whenever he works. It works. For Jade, too. They might be stopping by the road or stowing away if Evie and/or Harriet respectively refuse to drive them.
Facilier sisters also do not drive. They just ask for the drive, you see. (The people driving them might have been going to completely opposite direction before, but past is past, forgive, forget...).
Mal drives her scooter and thinks she is really cool.
Lonnie is about to snap soon because she has been assigned to Mal as her bodyguard sometimes too. She has a motorcycle and hates slowing down to keep up with High Queen's scooter.

Do you have any Descendants headcanons?
yes!
Lonnie and her brother like to watch comedy movies together and play video games
Their favorite genre is Fighting Games and their favorite is Tekken
They like fighting games because they are interested in Martial Arts
They also watch anime! they mostly watch the popular ones like Naruto and Jujutsu Kaisen
Ben's favorite colour is blue! his mom makes him cakes and blue food with the blue color to support him
Ben also plays video games! his genre is mostly the popular ones tbh, but he plays any game really!
Audrey, Ben, Chad, Lonnie, Jane, Jamila and Shang Jr often had get togethers and video game nights before Shang graduated
Chloe joined them sometimes too!
When Mal and the other VK's arrived they taught them how to play Video games too as there weren't any on the Isle, only old ones we see on D3's arcade
Mal defintely mains Reina Mishima
They Core 4 became part of the group too and joined them after they arrived and Mal dated Ben
Audrey did not join them after D1-D2
Ben also likes to read! he read Percy Jackson, Harry Potter and some popular Manga Shang Jr showed him
The arcades in Auradon are way bigger and way cleaner so Mal, Jay, Evie and Carlos were both in awe when Ben and the gang brought them in one
Jane is a good cook!, her mother taught her to bake and cook when she was a teenager so she could manage when she grew up, whenever the school had an event, her delicates were the best thing to try!
Jamila and Shang Jr dated around their 2nd-3rd year, everyone knew they were crushing on each other except them
Jamila and Shang were also childhood friends!

In addition to my rant about Lonnie a second ago, as far as I am aware this is the only time the franchise acknowledges Lonnie's absence

Lonnie: really? Cause I heard that Ben’s thinking of going as Tarzan for Halloween.

ot3 week day two: the cool kid, the jock, and the nerd
Audrey/Lonnie/Jane, post-canon. Unfinished, this is just the teaser for now! Someday I’ll learn a better way to format text messages lol.
++
Lonnie’s phone pings.
Txt from: Audrey Rose 🌹
break a leg!
or your opponent’s face :)
oops, autocorrect. I meant to say be sure to look your opponent in the face. :) It’s so satisfying to see people cry when you beat them!
Lonnie laughs. This girl.
There’s not a lot that Lonnie can say to the message. Both legally, because as a representative of the Northern Wei University women’s fencing team, she’s obligated by the intercollegiate board of athletes to practice good sportswomanship and not text her friends about breaking people’s faces, and also because…
Well.
Audrey’s been texting her a lot lately. And Lonnie’s not quite sure how to handle it.
Maybe she should back up.
+
Lonnie's in her freshman writing seminar when her phone chimes. It's a distinctive chime, not the usual half-second ping that means she has a text from one of her new school friends. Not the ding-a-ling sound of her mother's text tone either.
No, this chime is a special one. One that she set ages ago, shortly after receiving her first cell phone as a going-away-to-school gift, at the start of seventh grade.
It's Audrey's chime.
It's not like Lonnie's close friends with her anymore. Going evil, trying to destroy the entire country, and also just generally being rude to anyone who exists outside of the pretty Auradon princess mold will break a friendship faster than Lonnie's been breaking her wooden practice swords. She's talked to Audrey a few times since the whole world domination incident, but they're not close anymore. Not like they were as kids.
She can't take her phone out in class, but Lonnie slips the ringer to silent and makes a note in her planner to respond to whatever Audrey wants from her later. After class. Once she's got a handle on her old feelings again.
It's so inconvenient, having a crush.
+
So, they text sometimes now. Just a little bit. And yes, Audrey comes to her fencing competitions. Just a few of them. Audrey's doing a princess gap year before she goes to rule Auroria with her parents, and she doesn't have too many places to go on the weekends.
It's not a big deal. Lonnie just has to squash down her teeny, tiny little crush on the prettiest girl she's known since high school, and ignore the way that her stomach flips over every time she hears Audrey's special text tone, and remember that Audrey isn't flirting with her, she's just a good friend.
A good, bubbly friend who sometimes says how much she loves spending time with her.
And said she loved her. One time.
They were drinking.
Txt to: Audrey Rose 🌹
Haha thanks!
That’s normal. Cool. Yeah. Lonnie’s got a handle on this whole feelings thing. Her phone chimes again.
Txt from: Janey Godmother ✨
Hi!!! Me and Audrey are here!!
We're on the top left side of the stands! We couldn't get seats any closer :(
Audrey wanted me to flirt with the doorman to get us better seats but I don't know how to flirt with guys :(
Txt to: Janey Godmother ✨
JANEY!! I'LL LOOK FOR YOU!
and don't worry about your seats lol I'll look out for you guys!!

sharp like a knife (under the table)
I'll reblog some information in a second. It has been much too long since she's been spoken about. And it certainly wasn't like this.
It was common knowledge in Lanying’s family that the Huns had a spy. There was simply too much that they knew, too many weaknesses they had perfectly hurt.
The issue then became where was the spy now. Her mother doubted the spy had been caught and taken to the Isle with the rest of the Huns, what's the point of a spy if they are stuck with the same information as everyone else. But then where did they go? What information are they storing, waiting for the return of their people?
She pushed the thoughts out of her head. There wasn’t any room for distraction, not when she was visiting the Isle.
Lanying had been called in for an assessment of what Mal had called the Crimson Army which was essentially an alliance between the Huns and the Queen of Hearts. A most dangerous alliance. Ben would’ve preferred her brother but considering Xiaobo was gathering intelligence through the veneer of a tour that wasn’t happening anytime soon.
“Lonnie. I know you went to the Isle before to get Ben back, but this is gonna be different. We are dealing with the people no one wants to anger on the Isle.”
“I get it Mal. I’m gonna be fine. I know how to handle tough people.”
Mal stared at her, long and hard, analyzing whether she had made the right choice trusting her. That choice was still unknown. But the Empire needed to know if they were still a threat.
Mal guided them through the street, taking the to a run down building with all sorts of symbols drawn or etched into the walls. A neutral meeting place if she had to guess. Walking through the halls it was clear this place had seen a few fights, deep scratches in the walls and barely patched holes. Mal stopped in front of a door, giving both her and Ben a stern look, as if reminding them what they needed to know.
Lonnie didn’t need the reminder.
Inside was a long meeting table, scratches and stab wounds covering the wood, and a lone girl sitting at the head, waiting for them. She was short, long black hair pulled slightly back, chinese descent, with a scar maring down her left cheek. It was bold for her to be alone, showed confidence, she knew she wouldn’t be touched. Or perhaps she wasn’t alone. Glancing up, Lanying saw a figure in the rafters, barely visible, only a dash of crimson could be seen in the dim lighting.
“I see the little snake has deigned herself worthy of stepping back on the Isle. And to set up a meeting with me. What do you want with the army?”
“Always a pleasure, Huang. Straight to business as usual.”
“I have an army to help run. I don’t need to sit and chat about irrelevant nonsense.”
She was remaining strong, knowing the importance of being here. Otherwise she would have sent someone else in her stead. Interesting.
“I’m sure you know who King Ben is but let me introduce you to Lonnie Li. Mulan’s–”
“What’s your real name, little Li”
“Li Lanying,” She studied the face of the other, determining her position. “General.”
Mal glanced at her, unaware that she had any other name. Foolish of her really.
Huang hummed, before gesturing for them to continue.
“As you may know, we are getting people off the Isle. Did you have anyone you wanted to send?”
“It’s a package deal. All or none of us. We aren’t that foolish.”
“So this meeting was useless.”
“I’m not sure what you were expecting. You already knew what my answer was going to be.”
“Well thanks for wasting our time.” Mal threw the door open and rushed out of the room, Ben quickly following after her.
“There’s the Mal I’m familiar with. I hope this was informative to you, Lanying.”
“It was. It certainly was, Huang.” She let her mask drop, not being Auradon’s Lonnie for a second, but being her parents' child. The warrior she was raised to be.
Turning, Lanying left the room, but not far. The rafter hider was sure to come down once she left. And right she was.
“She was doing threat assessment.”
“I wonder what she found. Stick to the shadows Anhe, we don’t need the Facliler’s getting the wrong idea about their ‘Lilianne’.”
“I’ll see them leave. No use wasting such an opportunity. I’ll see you at home to debrief. Baba will need to hear about this.”
Lonnie quickly left, moving silently as she was taught many years ago. No need to get caught after finding out as much as she did. Meeting back up with the couple at the door, Ben was calming Mal down.
“She was rilling you up on purpose, don’t let it get to you, Mal.”
“She’s just a bitch. Why would she agree when she hates wasting time? It doesn’t make sense. Smug little bitch thinks shes everything because she runs the biggest force on the Isle.”
Maybe because she did get something out of the meeting. Information about the King and how Auradon is run.
“She’s Shan Yu’s daughter. She didn’t even earn her position, just inherited it from dear old daddy. Whatever lets just go, you two.”
Lanying doubted that Huang didn’t earn it. Nothing was given for free, certainly not military titles. She mulled over the information she had gotten as they made their way back to the car. It was only as she was getting in did she see a flash of crimson along a rooftop.
Shan Anhe was certainly good at her job.
