WHAT’S IT ABOUT
An explosive return to the library leaves the six Alexandrians vulnerable to the lethal terms of their recruitment.
Knowledge Is Carnage
Old alliances fracture as those who remain within the archives wrestle with the ethics of their astronomical abilities. Elsewhere, an unlikely pair from the Society partner up to influence politics on a global stage while the outside world mobilizes to destroy them all. And as for the Society’s Caretaker, Atlas Blakely… He may yet succeed in his world-breaking plan.
Destiny Is a Choice
It all comes down to this: The Society recruits must decide what and who they're willing to betray and destroy for limitless power.

you’re wearing his cardigan. i’ve struck a blood deal with his mob boss father, befriended and invested myself in the romantic life of his little sister, and am tormenting him with slutty 3am texts and sunglasses photos. we are not the same

why is no one is talking about this part in The Atlas Complex:
"Instead,Callum would simply have to look Tristan in the eye and say, as un-pathetically as possible, you don't have to choose me. Just know that it won't stop me from choosing you"

*spoilers for the Atlas Complex*
i've seen a lot of praise and a lot of criticism for The Atlas Complex, and though most of it comes down to personal taste in the end, what really annoys me is when people say that Olivie Blake killed all the gays and that she broke all the gay couples and that their deaths were pointless. first of all, are you purposefully ignoring the fact that every single one of the six are queer? that Libby, Parisa, and Tristan are also confirmed to be bi, that Reina is probably asexual and aromantic? are you focusing on Nico/Gideon and Trisan/Callum because they were the main couples or because you're only interested in queer characters when they're gay men or men who are dating another man?
second of all, the point of the book is that none of them really get a happy ending. they've all lost something, more or less big, because knowledge is carnage. that's the point of the story. you can't get so close to such knowledge because you'll burn yourself. and they got too close, so they burned. the only one who has a remotely happy ending is Tristan because even though he also got too close, he saw it for what it really was. that's his gift, that's part of his arc. i am devastated that Nico died, especially this way, but it makes sense for Libby's arc. it couldn't have been anyone else because that's the entire point of her journey.
as for Callum, i've seen someone point out that his death was pointless, especially since it comes just as he's finally growing for real. that's a valid point and ultimately a matter of personal analysis. but I also want to say that this pointlessness is precisely the point. it's ridiculous because ridiculous things happen all the time. that's why we see all the other ways it could have ended right after. because it's ridiculous, and Callum should have been given a chance to keep growing, and he was not because he did something careless and stupid. that's life. sometimes tragic things happen for ridiculous reasons, and it doesn't always have to be meaningful.

callum vs parisa sparring: tragic, ironic, poetic cinema, shot in 4k with a gothic rainy london background, ramin djawadi soundtrack, slow motion scenes, riveting and terrible and inevitable, corrupt academic magicians fighting mind battles and wielding mutual trauma, wins 4 emmys and a tony, many tears were shed
callum vs tristan face-off: bitch on bitch violence, brutal but sam levinson directs it, depeche mode plays in the background, tristan is doing parkour, callum is drunk, there's an extended scene where they're just pointing at each other's faces, libby chained to a wall says "you're not even hitting each other you're just slut-dropping", nico has his phone out but he's not calling 911 he's just streaming it on twitch

"Oh. So it's like that?" Nico said.
"Yeah." It left Gideon in a rasp, but fuck it. It had lived in his throat long enough
"Good." Nico caught him by a fistful of his T-shirt tugging him in again. "Good."
