Caffeinated Souls

She was the kind of girl who never liked expressing her feelings and emotions. Even when she’s awfully missing her best friend, she wouldn’t tell him — she’d say it in another way.

“Ayoko. Busy ako.” He responded, sarcastically.

There was nothing else in this world that he’d ever want to do more than spend time with her. And no matter how busy he was, he’d always make time for her.

At the coffee shop, they enjoyed their favorite java chip frappuccino and they talked about literally everything but their feelings for each other.

“If it’s more natural for humans to hate coffee,” he said. “Bakit ang hilig hilig natin sa kape? Is it the caffeine?”

“Maybe.” She said.

“Yeah, maybe.” He said.

They both knew that it was not just the caffeine they were addicted to — it was the moments they spent together while drinking coffee.

am i... an eldo groupie now? i've loved all of their scents i've tried so far, and i am just obsessed with hermann à mes côtés me paraissait une ombre*. but this is a very personal obsession, that goes beyond mere appreciation for a well-crafted fragrance. everyone i've shown this perfume to, myself included, has found themselves smiling perpexedly and saying it smells unique yet... familiar? "woody", said my dad; he also noted its strong sillage, albeit in less technical terms - "wow, that's strong!" (it was just one spritz, dad.) "a winter perfume. smells like woodworking and your grandfather," said my mom. "very different, very intriguing," said my boyfriend.

my own association was crystal-clear: the catholic churches i grew up attending, their elusive smell of wooden pews and wet basalt stone from the holy water basins beneath a thin haze of frankincense. it's eerily exact, as a bottled scent memory, and upon checking other reviews it would seem i'm not the only one who thinks so. it leans a little masculine, but i like that. it's really the most realistic church-smell i've tried to date.

and there is rose here too! so enmeshed with the petrichor scent of geosmin and the pepperwood that you might miss it, but it makes the whole fragrance transcendentally beautiful. the subtle florals actually reinforce the churchlike feel for me, like arrangements placed beneath the altar. i'd wear this to a funeral. i'd wear this when i miss my grandfather's woodworking hands. if you like woody and earthy scents, you'll love this, and you might find it reminds you of your dead past, too.

*as a side note, i recommend reading the victor hugo poem that lends this scent its name. you can find the original french on eldo's french website, and a translation on the english page, it's very beautiful, and i think the fragrance suits it well.

life update: regular na ako sa work!!!!!!

and shinare ko lang yung kwento ng pagka regular ko only kay Weyn hmmmp. originally, niyaya ko sya mag ramen kasi nagka inisan kami a night before magkita. Pero naisip ko kasi na pwede na din celebration yun since regular na ako sa work so sabi ko libre ko na. Di pa talaga nya alam nung una, kwinento ko lang nung andun na ako sakanila. usually, di sya nagdadala ng pera kapag alam nyang libre ko. pero gulat ako, pagdating namin lucky chinatown, sabi nya magkakape daw kami after namin mag ramen. tas may dala syang pera😂 nung nasa jco na kami, sabi ko “nililibre mo ba ako kasi sine celebrate mo din yung pagka regular ko?” tas ayaw nya sumagot!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHHAHA If i know, oo talaga ang sagot dun! 😏

Isa din sa mga dahilan din kung bakit mo paborito ang resort na to ay dahil dito ka madalas nakakasight ng gwapo. this place never fails to amaze your everytime na pumupunta ka dito kasi lagi kang may na nakikita na gwapo na susulyap sulyapan mo. “Gaga ang gwapo nakita mo ba yung ngiti??? JUSKO” sabi ng pinsan mo ng makarating kayo sa cottage nyo. Mukhang sumasang-ayon si lord sa akin today.

“Saan kaya cottage nila?” Dagdag ng pinsan mo.

Habang nagkwekwentuhan kayo ng pinsan mo sa gilid ay di nyo namamalayan na pinagmamasdan na kayo ng magkaibigan.

Malalim na ang gabi at nararamdaman mo na ang malamig na simoy ng hangin. Andito ka ngayon sa labas ng cr, hinihintay mo ang pinsan mo. Nang makalabas ang pinsan mo sa cr ay agad naman kayo naglakad pabalik ng pool.

Habang naglalakad kayo ay di niyo inaasahan na haharangin kayo ng dalawang lalaki na taga kabilang cottage.

“Hi!” Bati nung isa na nakaitim, siya yung lalaking kumindat sayo kanina. Bigla ka namang nakaramdam ng hiya kaya naman nanahimik ka lang.

scent of the day: libre (yves saint laurent)

libre threw me for a bit of a loop, so much so that i wanted to try it two days in a row before writing a review. when i first sprayed it on, i was kind of surprised - this is straight-up soap? like the lavender savon de marseilles i used to keep in my sock drawer, and maybe a little like the musgo real soaps from portuguese brand ach brito that the men in my family like to use. i originally wanted to try libre because people kept comparing it to replica's coffee break (which i love), and i definitely see the resemblance. libre is a coffee break where you skip the coffee altogether and just go straight to the washroom to wash your face and hands. i can almost taste the soap.

the heart and base notes are where libre really shines, once the soapiness fades. it becomes a gorgeous, slightly citrusy, coumarinic amber; to my nose, this is rather masculine, or perhaps androgynous like a woman dressed in a sharp masculine suit. definitely handsome, but a little distant; a capricorn sort of scent. it's fresher and more suitable for the hot weather we're having than coffee break, but i kind of miss the coffee a little bit. i like it, it's very much my sort of scent, but beyond that i'm still not fully sure how i feel about it, what with the soap-bomb top notes.
