Danny tells the Justice league that he is thousands of years old and a powerful ancient entity. He thinks that he is lying, but little did he know that what he said is more true than not.
When Danny tells the just League that he's an ancient entity, he expected to gain some respect and authority. Unfortunately for him, that didn't happen, his appearance and maturity level and later mention of an evil adult version of him all seem to indicate that he is the teenage aspect of a multifaceted being, which leads to the justice league keeping their somewhat condescending attitude towards him after all, no matter how old he technically is he still a teen at heart.
What Danny doesn't know is that the justice league's assumption about him is actually pretty close to the truth. Being clockwork's apprentice, it's a given that Danny has time traveled a lot and for that reason, there are multiple versions of him simultaneously existing at the same time, each of them solving a different problem. In fact, Dan himself still exists as he is the angry aspect of Danny who is there to punish humanity when it goes too far and the version of him who was defeated and later imprisoned is the version of Dan that has overstepped his role.

Brought Hell to Earth for a Date
Gotham was in chaos; the dead didn't stay dead, and Skeleton came from the ground! It was like the Day of the Walkind Dead.
But not in a world-ending way, but more as a way for the people to talk with their lost ones. So it wasn't that bad for many people in Gotham.
The Massive leader of it seems to have walked to Bruce Wayne and his family. And did go one knee before Wayne's adopted daughter, Stephanie Brown.
The massive armor was not even bothering him as he was on the ground. As he looked up at her, " I did just as you wanted."
Steph:" I didn't mean this! DANNY!"
The leader they learned was named Danny. Maybe short for Daniel. Danny:" You said make it very special for a date. If I ask you out again?"
Danny dressed in his King Armor full of Skulls Fur (think of Lich King Armor(World of Warcraft) without the Helmet), and around him were many skeletons that came from the ground in the Gala. Danny legit brought back the dead and stopped death in Gotham. Danny:" So?"
Steph:" Yes, let's go on a date."
Danny's armor started to fade, showing a suit he wore under it, and the army started to go too. Danny. "Well, are you a good place to go?" Steph laughed. " Yeah, I know one."
Both left smiling as the dead suddenly faded and the people were able to peacefully die without pain.
Bonus. Bruce was once again the big talk because his adopted daughter dated the God of Death. Yeah, he had no fun trying to explain it. The joke about him being the father-in-law of the Lord of Death was already talked about.
Bruce:" So other than the Joker, no one was hurt?" Dick:"Well, not just the Joker, but a few other serial killers too."
The dead who couldn't die took revenge on their killers; after all, they can't be killed again. And that kind of was why Gotham wasn't that shocked about the day of the Walking Dead. It wasn't like a zombie apocalypse.
It was just Gotham

NaNoWriMo Day #16
[masterlist] [part one] [part three] [part four]
Tumblr media
=============‹«⟨·•★•·⟩»›=============
Bruce sat in the bat cave, long after he'd sent his kids to bed. In his hands were the batarangs Phantom had gifted him. They were unnaturally cold in his hands, but the chill never became painful. In fact, it was strangely almost comforting.
Thinking back on Phantom, Bruce wasn't sure what to make of their meeting. The kid seemed to be a few years younger than Tim, and had all but told them he was being hunted. Phantom had come to them seeking protection from someone, or multiple someones, for himself and four others, most of which were kids. On one hand, it made his heart ache, knowing these kids had to run from their previous homes, their "haunt". On the other hand, Phantom's genuine belief that they were something beyond human was obvious and more than a bit unsettling (he ignored the part of him that reveled in that belief, the part that had him on edge before an Arkham breakout, the part that saw Phantom and whispered "other, different, like me".)
His kids had held similar reservations, though they'd all agreed Phantom wasn't a threat. His gifts, though obviously magical and not human in nature, had felt benign and were reasonably well thought out, and though the level of research each gift had symbolized was slightly worrying, Babs had assured them she'd closed all the holes in their internet security those gifts had exposed. In the end, they'd all agreed to honor Phantom's request for refuge. The kid's relief was profound and practically soul deep, which reassured Bruce they'd made the right choice.
As Bruce fiddled with his new batarangs, which held a very faint green sheen at the edges, he remembered the moment his "feeling" had reached its peak. Something had changed, something big, when he'd accepted Phantom's gifts. He still didn't know what, exactly, had happened, but he'd felt some sort of shift in the energy Gotham exuded, in his children, in him. He had felt the sense of connection between him and his children grow ever so slightly stronger, and he knew they'd felt it, too.
Bruce flipped the batarang in his dominant hand and caught it with ease, returning it to the holster with a sigh. Whatever Phantom was, whoever he was running from, whatever his presence meant for his family, and Gotham as a whole, Bruce had a feeling they'd be crossing paths with him again soon.
=============‹«⟨·•★•·⟩»›=============
Danny phased invisibly into his and Jazz's apartment, turning human as he sat at the table with a thoughtful frown on his face. Jazz looked over at him from the stove, a questioning look on her face, though she didn't pry, which he was thankful for. He needed to gather his thoughts before he explained what had happened tonight.
When Jazz placed a bowl of spaghetti in front of him, Danny took a deep breath. "You owe Sam ten bucks," he started, smiling at Jazz's soft curse. "Condor is definitely connected to death, but they're equally connected to life, and the only being or creature we know of that is perfectly balanced between life and death, that isn't a halfa, is a phoenix. They also don't have that slimy, necromantic feel liches are supposed to."
Jazz hummed as she swallowed her mouthful. "What about the others? How close were we on our guesses of them?"
"Well, Batman is definitely a guardian deity, and Gotham is definitely his territory. Ibis, who I actually interacted with, was also spot on, definitely a kitsune. You should have seen them move, Jazz, it was almost ethereal how gracefully they moved. Oh, and Starling? Definitely at least related to banshees. I don't think they're a true banshee, because that connection to death wasn't there, but they're at least related to banshees." Danny paused to take a few bites before continuing. "I think Signal is a Will-o'-the-wisp, actually. You know how I thought they'd be a vengeful spirit? Having been in their presence, I gotta say, not very vengeful. Very mischievous, somewhat malicious, but mostly protective, strangely enough. Same with Raven, they practically ooze protective vibes, along with some very pointed trickster energy. I think Raven might be some sort of protection based deity, under Batman's authority, with strong trickster leanings, which is an interesting mix in my opinion. Oh, and Robin is definitely fae, they've got a very ethereal look to them, paired with their grace and general mischievousness, there's no doubt. BlackBat is more difficult to say. I think they're either a shape changing shadow wolf or otherwise just living shadows. Even when they were illuminated by my glowy self, I could barely see them. It was trippy, I'll tell you that much right now."
They continued eating in silence for a bit before Jazz asked, "So am I signing the full lease tomorrow, or are we moving on?"
Danny grinned. "Oh no, we're good. Batman actually told me to get the others here as soon as possible." His grin mellowed to a small, warm smile. "I think he's worried about them, Jazz. When I mentioned only two of us were currently in Gotham because the others weren't able to come with us when we left, he asked if we needed help getting them here. He seemed to relax when I told him we had a plan and that they were just waiting for the go-ahead from our end."
"Are you going to call them after we finish dinner, then?" Jazz asked, taking another bite.
Danny nodded. "Yeah, Ellie will grab them in the middle of the night. They'll wait until morning with Frostbite before portaling in so we can get the lease signed." He paused, stirring his spaghetti absentmindedly as he thought. "I think," he started haltingly. "I think the bat clan aren't actually aware they're not human."
Jazz paused, spaghetti falling off her fork and back into her bowl as she stared at him in shock. "What do you mean, how could they not know their own natures? You guys pegged them as eldritch beings as soon as you discovered them, they have to know!"
"I don't know, they just. They didn't seem to understand why I was giving them gifts or behaving the way I was. They also looked very confused at a few of my gifts, like they weren't sure why I'd chosen that specific thing for them, even though it makes sense for what kind of being they are!" Danny huffed. Then he sighed. "If they don't actually know what they are, then someone needs to explain it to them. They deserve to know what they are, especially because some of their species have very specific instincts that could be very confusing, even terrifying, for someone who thinks they're human. I... Should I offer to teach them more about themselves next time I see them?"
Jazz looked at him with a small smile. "If you think they'd be receptive to it, I think that'd be for the best, especially if you're right about them thinking they're human. I highly doubt we'll be the only Fright to seek asylum here, after all."
Danny nodded. "Then tomorrow night, I'll make the offer. If we get kicked out because I offend them, then at least we'll all be together."
=============‹«⟨·•★•·⟩»›=============
This would have been longer, or at least done sooner, if I hadn't had an ocular migraine come out of nowhere earlier today (´-﹏-`;) but after a two hour nap, I could actually see again, so I was finally able to get to work on this ficlet! ✧\(>o<)ノ✧ I had a lot of fun coming up with what the members of the Batfam had managed to become due to the entire city believing them to not be human (◡ ω ◡) Jason was fun, cuz I hadn't really thought about what exactly liches were before, so when I realized that Voldemort from Harry Potter was basically a textbook lich, I knew I had to change my initial plan for Jason (^~^;)ゞ but hey, now he gets super strength and the ability to heal himself from anything, including death! Much better than being able to create essentially undead thralls lol (◠‿◕)
I'm seriously hoping to continue this into at least one more part, with the Bats coming to terms with and learning more about their new supernatural status, possibly even the Justice League initiating contact with the distinctly not human protectors of Gotham, but we'll have to see what prompts I find (。•̀ᴗ-)✧
OH! ALSO! I'm so close to reaching 200 followers! When I do, I'm thinking of celebrating somehow, but I'm not sure what to do. If any of you have any ideas, please, let me know! I might take your suggestion to heart (◠‿・)—☆ also, if I get to 260 by the 26th of this month, I'll do another celebration lol
Y'all are awesome, thank you so much! I've got some more people who asked to be tagged in this continuation, so here's hoping I get them all again! @airis-hunter, @little-pondhead, @stealingyourbones, @crystallicedart, @summerfox1988, @minnesota-fats, @edgemcjee, @fire-glass, @f4nd0m-fun, I think you all asked to be tagged (or at least heavily implied it) if I continued my fake cryptids real ghosts au, so here ya go!
Have a good morning/day/night!

Highly disappointed that the “Infinite” Realms is always just full of ghosts. Monster AUs have so much potential, especially with all the DC crossovers. Vampires that can subsist off the pure energy of ectoplasm present in the air, so they’re never hungry. They can grow/hide/exist all by themselves. Alternately, the realms could act as a base of indefinite preparation for them if they decide to do anything to an infinite number of worlds. Werewolves that are free to play like wolves, to hunt the game they seeded their own dimension/realm with, to be perfectly free. The Yetis who used their magic to make their own home in the Realms as the Ice Age began to fail them. Duulaman’s Egypt, home of an entire sorcerous people, capable of casting the souls of their people into an eternal realm where they could thrive forever in, essentially, the field of reeds. The Mummies found there reanimated so that their revered ancestors could walk amongst them again, or their bodies rejuvenated (good plot there if Hotep-Ra, a traitor, was left as a mummy by his people when everybody else was brought back to life). Pandora, Guardian of Hope, and her Realm of Elysium, a home for all the monsters of Ancient Greece who were cast out/shunned/destroyed by society. A place of healing for the traumatized Minotaur (he was raised to kill people in a dark maze, that’s gotta be traumatic), cursed Medusa, etc (seriously, a rehab center where you can literally hold Hope in your hands when you have none...hek). Not to mention, since she guards Hope, it could be a literal object, and Vlad stealing Hope but not knowing how to use its power is a *highly* interesting plot to me. Somewhere that Desiree, a djinni, can avoid the people who’d only attempt to abuse her power to grant wishes. (There are so many more things to add...Liches, Witch Covens, Dora and Aragon’s Kingdom of Mattingly [dragons], other creatures) Sure, some beings there--like Skulker--want to fight, but by the very nature of Lairs/Realms, he can’t follow others into their homes and expect to survive, so they are safer than anywhere else. The ghosts and creatures that love to battle are free to do so in the regenerative chaos of the realms. The ghosts who want to be left alone can find their own slice of infinity. It truly is, or at least could be, a paradise for everybody... Which makes Pariah Dark so much eviler. The moment he awoke, he destroyed people’s homes so they couldn’t hide from him, he enslaved entire peoples to make thralls for his army, he devoured ghosts--absorbing their essence--to rebuild his lost strength, he used those armies to attack the realms capable of resisting him for a time, he pulled a resisting city into the Realms as an act of aggression. Everything he did was in stark contrast to the path of existence the nations of the realms had chosen, and his will was absolute; all the beings capable of being compelled were compelled to serve him, every lich lost their phylactery to him and were forced to submit to him, every free group was under threat of slavery or extinction. Even Vortex and Undergrowth, two incredibly dark beings, resisted as well as they could, but had Danny not attacked Pariah Dark’s center of power, even they would have fallen. Essentially, Danny stopping Pariah Dark would have far more of an impact, yet also none at all as it would be mostly behind the scenes. Danny, all of fourteen years old, battled the evilest being to have existed at that time in a fight to the death without any guarantee of survival. Frostbite and the other beings, feeling the weakness of Pariah’s forces, since he was occupied with Danny and the attacking ghost forces, launched their own counterattack and arrived before Danny’s duel was over to see Danny, still so small even in the battle suit, fighting the titanic mass of Pariah Dark, King of all Ghosts. Frostbite, left arm shredded by a summoned beast, watched in fascinated horror as Danny’s strength waned, but he still forced Dark back. Pandora, Guardian of Hope, watched a tiny child stare down a stone-face goliath. Vortex, for all his wrath, couldn’t have stood against Pariah, but that diminutive whelp was a storm unto himself and nothing, not even Pariah Dark, it seemed, could stand against a force of nature. Nocturne, Lord of Sleep, King of Dreams, and once a slave to Pariah Dark, had suffered from nightmares since Pariah’s return; his dream realm had fallen, his sleepwalkers obliterated, his precious, harvested dreams destroyed, and Pariah had once again enslaved Nocturne, yet the power of Pariah’s ritual was waning, and Nocturne felt himself awakening from his nightmare. He watched a tiny child, someone who should be dreaming instead of facing down a nightmare, deliver the dream of the king of dreams; Pariah was being forced into his sarcophagus. For Frostbite, Danny became the Great One; to Pandora, he was a child of Hope, a miracle (it didn’t hurt that he locked a great evil in a box either); to Vortex, he was a little storm, a squall; to Nocturne, Danny was a savior and a dream come true, surely, Nocturne could repay him with good dreams...maybe even for the little one’s entire Lair... All I’m saying is that context is everything, and having Vortex be a literal embodiment of storms and nature rather than just a ghost with storm powers is a lot more enticing to me. Pandora being Danny’s ghost mom is great, but her seeing him as a child of what she embodies rather than just “he is smol, I must help,” seems richer. Then there’s the DC crossover potential once Danny inevitably begins letting the peaceful individuals stay in Amity Park under his protection, or sending those who’d fit in to the Infinite Realms (Mr. Freeze and Nora relocating to the Far Frozen where he can get all the help he needs, not live in his suit, and either turn Nora into a ghost or cure her, Poison Ivy to live with Undergrowth [kinda like that island she had in the Bahamas], Killer Croc most likely to Egypt, Harley would fit in with Kitty and Johnny’s level of crazy, etc.). Imagine Batman investigating all his missing rogues, but when he eventually tracks them down, he finds them living peacefully in an infinite realm of places where they can’t hurt anybody permanently, and the people there are similarly obsessive/crazy. But also, Ghost King Danny, Protector of the Infinite Realms, etc., etc., leading an army of “monsters” to defend Earth from Darkseid, or, since Darkseid is always after the Anti-life Equation (considering all their different abilities, it would make sense for ghosts/ectoplasm to be the essence of the equation), defending the Infinite Realms against Darkseid/the Anti-Monitor. That’s all neglecting the chaos potential of Jack and Maddie believing all things not expressly human are ghosts. I also firmly think that since the Infinite Realms connect all universes, there can only ever be one ghost/ectoplasmic entity of any given individual regardless of the universe(s) of origin, and I have written pseudoscience for it (using some computer science and physics ideas, so it makes sense with less hand-waving). That’s neither here nor there, so I will end this before it gets any longer. Anyways, that’s the thought I just had, figured I’d share it with y’all and see if y’all were interested.

The Undead Adventurer (1)
When an interrupted resurrection spell leaved Danny halfway between life and death, his adventuring career should have been over. But Danny Fenton won't let something as minor as being regularly mistaken for a member of a zombie horde, or kidnapped by an unknowable monster of death stop him from becoming the strongest adventurer in the world with his best friends by his side.
For the following prompts:
His head spun. He couldn’t see past the light above him. What was it? [from @q-gorgeous]
Fantasy/rpg setting. Danny died, but the resurrection spell went wrong, and now he’s trapped as something not quite dead but not fully alive either. Not that he’d ever let that stop him from becoming an adventurer, even if he does get mistaken as a resident dungeon monster by other adventuring parties every now and then… [from @lexiepiper]
Danny catches the eye of something he shouldn't. (Eldritch affection or soft horror encouraged) [from Ventisette Stars]
Read on AO3
Chapter 1: Incantationus Interruptus (next chapter)
[Warnings for death, mentioned violence, and some explicit language]
Something felt... wrong, as Danny woke up. His head spun. He couldn't see past the light above him. What was it? The sun? He'd been in a dungeon a moment ago, but... it was surely night time by now. The moon? No. It was too close.
"Uh... Sam... I think you fucked up the spell."
Tucker?
"Me? I can't cast resurrection spells! All I did was teleport us out of there so we could take him to town for a resurrection. He should still be dead!"
Sam?
"Are we entirely sure he isn't?" Tucker asked. "If it wasn't your spell, maybe it was that lich we were fighting. What if it brought Danny back as a zombie? What if he's evil now?"
"'M not evil," Danny groaned.
His eyes were slowly adjusting to his surroundings. It was, in fact, night time, and it should have been dark, but Danny could see everything as clear as if it were daylight, even the stars. The blinding light above him, it seemed, was Sam's staff, lit up so they could see their surroundings, but it looked far, far brighter than Danny could ever remember it being before.
"Well... if you're not evil, then was it a true resurrection spell that got fucked up when Sam's teleportation spell interrupted it?" Tucker asked.
"Or was it a monster resurrection spell that got fucked up when my teleportation spell interrupted it?" Sam asked.
"What are you talking about?" Danny asked.
The last thing he could remember was getting hit with a devastating magical lightning attack when they were fighting a lich, then waking up all but blinded by Sam's usually dim light spell.
"Well..." Sam dug around in her various pouches and pockets for a while before finally taking out a small, shiny, round object that Danny recognized after a moment as her compact mirror. "See for yourself."
She handed him the mirror, but when he looked into it, the face he saw was not his own. His dark hair had turned white, his eyes glowed green like those horrible zombies in the dungeon they'd just been fighting in.
"Am I a zombie?" he asked. "But... I can still think and stuff. I'm still myself."
"Yeah," Tucker agreed. "That's what we were wondering about, too."
"We should take him into town and try to find a high-level wizard, or a magic researcher, or something who might be able to tell us what happened to him," Sam suggested.
"Agreed," Danny said.
He tried to get to his feet, but when he pushed up off of the ground, he began to float. He flailed his arms and tried to come back down, but it was as if gravity didn't want anything to do with him anymore.
"Uh, guys?"
His companions stared at him, shocked for a moment, until Tucker stuck out his bow for Danny to grab onto and pulled him back down to earth. Once his feet were on solid ground, Danny felt gravity return to him, and when they walked to the nearby town, Danny made sure to keep at least on foot firmly on the ground at all times.
The nearest town was called Casper, and thanks to it being situated so near a difficult dungeon, it had plenty of magic users and shops offering magical services. More than most towns this far in the middle of nowhere would have.
When they entered the town, and everywhere they went, people stared, gasped in fear and generally did their best to avoid the trio. It seemed Danny's new appearance wasn't exactly putting them at ease. In the townspeople's defense, he did look like an undead monster now. That was kinda the problem they were trying to solve in town.
They went to three different people in search of answers, Star, the grand wizard's apprentice, although the grand wizard himself was away at the moment; the old, and confusingly named, wizard Lancer; and lastly to a magical researcher called Sidney Poindexter. The first two had never seen anything like Danny and couldn't offer any insight into his condition. The third had never seen anything like him either, but was at least willing to run some tests.
Sidney Poindexter possessed only weak magical powers, but was apparently an unrivaled expert in magic relating to death and resurrection, which was why he'd moved to a town so near a dungeon with a lich. So when Lancer first directed the adventurers to him, he sounded like the perfect person to ask.
"Wow, what happened to you?" Poindexter asked when they walked in, staring openly at Danny.
"We were hoping you might be able to answer that," Danny told him.
"Oh, well, in that case, why don't we find out!"
Poindexter's study was cramped and crowded, full of books, scrolls, and strange equipment. He sat Danny on an empty stool, and spent the next several hours running various tests and taking various readings. He had Danny attempt certain tasks, like flying, turning invisible, and passing through solid objects, all of which he managed with surprising ease, considering they should have been impossible.
Sam and Tucker had fallen asleep on the floor by the time he finally had anything to report.
"I believe I have a conclusion!" Poindexter announced at last.
The two snoozing adventurers jerked awake and sat bolt upright.
"Wh-what is it?" Tucker mumbled out, tiredness giving him a bit of a stammer.
"You say whatever resurrection spell was cast on your friend must have been done so by the lich in the dungeon, correct?" Poindexter asked.
"Yeah," Sam confirmed.
"I believe the lich was trying to resurrect him as a Zombie General, rather than a regular Zombie," the researcher explained. "There are many different kinds of resurrection spells, but the three main ones are true resurrection, soul resurrection, and monster resurrection.
"True resurrection brings the deceased back exactly as they were in life, both body and soul—although it cannot prevent them from developing psychological problems related to their death. Soul resurrection brings the deceased's soul back to life, apart from their body, creating a ghost. And monster resurrection brings the body back to life without it's soul, creating things like zombies and skeletons and the like."
"Yeah, that's common knowledge," Sam said. "Can you get to the point."
"Sorry, after a certain level of expertise, I realized I couldn't count on myself to know what knowledge was common and what was obscure, so I just explain everything, just in case," Poindexter apologized. "As I was saying, however, there are other types of resurrection besides those three. One of them is monster lord resurrection, which brings back the deceased as an especially powerful undead monster, such as a Zombie General, or a Skeleton Leader, which have higher intelligence, and the ability to control other undead of the same type."
"So... Danny was brought back as a Zombie General," Sam reiterated, "and that's why he looks like that but is still himself?"
"Not quite."
Sam and Tucker groaned. It wasn't that they weren't grateful for Poindexter's help, but they were tired, and kind of hoping for a shorter explanation.
"A monster lord resurrection spell consists of two parts," Poindexter continued, unperturbed. "First, a modified true resurrection spell, and second, a mind control spell. For best results, these two parts should be performed simultaneously, but double-casting is a skill only a handful of mages in all of history have possessed, and it looks like the lich in the nearby dungeon isn't one of them, because it seems it planned to cast the resurrection first and then the mind control, but couldn't get all the way through the resurrection before it was interrupted somehow."
"By my teleportation spell," Sam supplied.
"Yeah, that'd do it," the researcher agreed. "When the spell was interrupted, it ended up reviving him with his whole soul because there wasn't enough time for the spell to break off the pieces of his soul that would resist the mind-control spell. As for his body, well, you can see how that was effected. Now, he's trapped somewhere in the middle, not quite dead, but not entirely alive, either."
That, at least, was true. Though his outward appearance had changed, and he appeared to have some of the abilities an undead would have, he wasn't rotting like a zombie, or incorporeal, like a ghost. His motor control was unaffected, allowing him to move without the telltale jerky motions of most corporeal undead.
Tucker shook his head in confusion.
"Why?" he asked. "I mean, why would the lich try to make Danny a Zombie General instead of just making him a regular zombie—or just letting him die?"
"I don't know," Poindexter admitted. "Did any of you happen to kill a zombie that seemed more powerful, or acted more intelligently than the others?"
"Yeah, actually..." Danny said, suddenly remembering. "It was dressed in rusted armor, and carried a sword. I thought that was weird for a zombie, but even weirder, was the fact that it actually had the motor control to use its sword. As soon as I stuck it down, the lich screamed and shot lightning at me, like it was suddenly pissed for some reason."
"Well there you have it," Poindexter said. "When you killed it's general, it suddenly had to control all those zombies by itself, which is extremely taxing on the mind, so it decided to kill you and resurrect you as its new general."
It... sort of made sense. It followed the sort of logic an angry undead mage from hundreds of years ago that was slowly losing its mind would follow.
"One thing doesn't make sense, though," Danny said. "Zombie's can't fly or pass through walls or turn invisible. Why can I?"
"Botched resurrections can have all kinds of side effects," Poindexter answered with a shrug. "Those three are some of the most common, I can do them too. An old partner of mine tried to resurrect me after I was fatally injured during my studies across the continent, and messed it up so badly I stopped aging. I'll be ninety-six this year, you know, but I don't look a day over twenty."
"Really?" Sam asked. "I would've guessed younger."
"I'll take that as a compliment," Poindexter said.
It really wasn't one. Poindexter looked like a dweeby teenager who hadn't grown into his fact yet.
"In any case, it's not common, but it's entirely likely you'll run into some people with similar powers from resurrections that didn't go quite as they were supposed to."
"Is there any way to fix it?" Tucker asked.
"If there was, do you think I'd still have this face at ninety-five years old? I can't even grow a beard! What kind of respectable, well-established magical researcher doesn't have a beard?"
"I'll be okay, though, right?" Danny asked. "I'm not gonna, like, slowly waste away or anything am I?"
"Well, no, you should be able to live normally..." Poindexter said, with a tone that strongly implied a 'but'.
The three adventurers stared at him, waiting for the other shoe to drop.
"But..." Danny prompted.
"If you die again, there's no spell that can bring you back," Poindexter said. "After you've been the target of a failed resurrection spell in any capacity, you become an undead for all intents and purposes, and undead creatures can't be resurrected again. That's why I almost entirely retired from field research after mine."
"So, you're saying... if Danny keeps adventuring...." Tucker looked at his friend, his face a mask of concern and pity. "He could die for good next time?"
Danny had died before. They all had, at least once. Of the three of them, Sam had died the least. They always tried to protect her as best they could, and she was usually quick with a teleportation spell if they got in over their heads. She couldn't perform resurrections herself, but you could buy one in almost any town, and she came from a wealthy family that would never let her die, even if they didn't approve of her lifestyle.
Of the three of them, Danny had died the most, with a whopping six deaths since they started adventuring four years before. He was physically the strongest of the three, although Sam was also deceptively athletic for a mage, but he was also the first to throw himself in front of danger to protect his friends. Plus, though there was no way to prove this, he suspected that of the three of them, he also had the worst luck. And this was just the latest in a long string of evidence.
"Fine," Danny said. "But I'm not retiring."
His friends looked alarmed by his decision, but it was the only decision he could make.
"No, Danny, there's too much risk now," Tucker insisted. "You're on your last life."
"It's too dangerous to go running around adventuring with no safety net," Sam agreed. "We... we don't want to lose you."
"Adventurers have been around way longer than true resurrection magic," Danny pointed out. "Any time we raid a dungeon, or take on a quest, there's always a chance we'll die for good, either our bodies will be too far gone for resurrection, or they'll be lost in a bottomless pit, or there will be a monster that renders magic ineffective on a corpse. True resurrection was never a perfect safety net anyway.
"I'm not retiring."
His friends did not seem happy with this decision.
"We're not gonna change your mind, are we?" Sam guessed.
"No, you're not," Danny agreed. "Besides, even though I'll have to be more careful not to die, I've also got some cool new powers out of the deal. It would be a waste to quit now."
Tucker sighed, but didn't try to argue. He hadn't won an argument against Danny yet, and he knew he wouldn't win this one. His friend was one stubborn guy... well... one stubborn zombie, now.
"We should at least slow down," Tucker said. "No more charging into dungeons way out of our league. We stick with stuff at our level and only take on more difficult jobs when we're already strong enough to handle instead of taking them in the hopes that we'll luck out and rank up fast."
"Boring!" Danny groaned, but at the looks both Sam and Tucker gave him, he knew it would be unreasonable of him to argue. Really, that was how they should have been adventuring all along. "Fine. I accept your terms."

I honestly can’t see how they’ll be able to save Ashe without William getting his powers back. Like maybe with all the heroes fighting at once they can defeat The Trickster but that’s not the same. The only other person who we’ve seen remove a demon is Mal and even though he said he’d be there he is far from reliable. And the only being that can truly lay a soul to rest is The Whisperer, and if I’m reading things correctly I think that's what the demons actually want? Like if the “I just want to fucking die” line is to be trusted these things are on the world’s most destructive attempt of suicide by cop.
And I think Will knows this, or at least I hope he does. Because in that last conversation with Mal he said they would just throw the demons back in the Chaos Zone every time they got out, even though he was on the opposite side of that argument when it was about jailing vs killing The Lich. And even then that plan doesn’t work without his powers because who’s gonna open the portal? You gonna trust Mal to do it? You gonna trust Mal with anything?
William’s a smart kid, I think he knows this is a hypocritical stance to take. The problem is that he’s scared. He doesn’t want this power, doesn’t trust himself, doesn’t trust Mal. He wants to have a normal life, an actual living life where his body isn’t falling apart and he isn’t responsible for the entire actual afterlife. But he’s so deep in it now, so far from any semblance of normalcy that even without powers I seriously doubt there’s any way he can every truly escape. The title of Whisperer will chase him forever, it’s something the world needs and while I doubt he will know peace by accepting it he certainly won’t know peace by denying it.
I dunno, this show is far from predictable, who knows what kind of absolutely whack ass solutions they might come up with that none of us ever could have seen coming. But with the information we have for now I really don’t see this ending without some serious shenanigans, legendary luck, or The Whisperer. Not without William probably not surviving, Trickster most likely not being defeated, or Ashe almost certainly not getting saved.
That and can your really call yourself Discount Danny Phantom if you aren’t the Ghost King?

I'm sorry if i come off as rude, but where exactly are you finding dp x at content? I've never heard of it until now and i would like to see some posts of it.
Nah, you're cool! Admittedly, there really isn't very much content.
Take a look at @farfromfrozen. Unfortunately, their art regarding Plant Sam has her basically dying. I'd have preferred her & also Tucker & Jazz becoming halfas & living on into Ooo with Danny, Vlad, Elle, & even Dan. I just think it'd be cool is all.
Or! Jack does something to send Amity forward in time to Ooo by accident! I mean, we know he's already canonically sent their house to a different dimension before. This really wouldn't be too far afield for him.
Again, there isn't very much content in any capacity, but I think there's some real potential for this crossover.
Especially to explore the halfas' feelings surrounding how society ended the way it did.
Or have the halfas fight the Lich, who maybe turns out to have no actual power over them because, guess what jerk? They're already sorta dead!
