Could ghosts sweat? It didn't seem like ghosts should sweat. Grian feels stress prickling over his skin anyways.

"I'm- I can't," he admits, voice small. "Not like this."

Grian would happily kill Scar in PVP, in jest, in competition. But the idea of just striking him down is... uncomfortable. No chance of survival, no fairness, no fighting back at all. He's already done that once to Scar, at the end of the start. Grian won't do it again.

THIS IS WHY HE IS THE WINNER thrums through his mind. From the winces around him, everyone else can hear the Secret Keeper's message too.

"Why? Because he was willing to kill?" Grian snaps to its stone face, mouth twisted down. "That's sort of the point."

NO, INSOLENT ONE the Secret Keeper rumbles. HE WON BECAUSE HE OBEYED MY INSTRUCTIONS BEST. NO MATTER. I AM EQUALLY CAPABLE OF ENDING THIS GAME.

Cowardice sits like blood in his throat. Grian screws his eyes shut a moment before lightning strikes and thunder peals out below.

i gotta wonder where raven got the "salem only uses people until they're no longer useful" bc she makes it sound like salem will kill those who aren't useful anymore, and before that happens she won't leave them alone until their purpose has come and gone.

bc that doesn't really seems to be the case? salem was ready to leave watts rot in atlas prison, and only sent someone after him when he proved he was still useful to salem in atlas, but there was no tying up loose ends or simply getting him out for no reason other than he works for her (i.e. the whole "won't leave them alone" part).

...do i dare to connect this with the "what does she have on you?" and salem threatening the survival of raven's people....hmmmm....

Two theories I have (well, one theory and a headcanon) regarding Raven.

Headcanon: Raven's kindred links can influence her own emotional state, depending on the intensity of the other person's emotions.

Theory: Raven left to spy on Salem for Ozpin, with the specific purpose of getting close enough to Salem to create a kindred link with her. This plan succeeded. The mysterious portal in the V9 flashback was to Salem. Raven spent enough time by Salem's side to bond with her. Kindred links can only be broken when the other person is dead.

Conclusion headcanon: Raven, as we see her in canon, has been emotionally linked to a whole range of people, none of who have particularly positive opinions on her that don't come with a caveat (namely Taiyang and Qrow being heartbroken and bitter, Yang's feelings of abandonment, Ozpin's guilt, Vernal might be the only exception but, uh... decoy). And then you add in Salem's emotions to the mix, which have been stewing in Raven for over a decade by the time we see her.

Bonus: if kindred links can only be broken when the other person is dead, and Summer has turned into a Hound, what would Raven feel from that?

you know i mentioned last night that i realized only *after* i started rereading david copperfield that since i recently became an aunt, i was gonna see the story from a whole new angle and start relating more to betsey trotwood. i didn't even think about how at salem house i was gonna be poor mr. mell...

theater kid moment (i have cried 10 times today)

#last night we had our closing night and we went to the diner we always eat at and i got voted cast babygirl and also 2nd place for #favorite actor. then after we had eaten and paid the techies wanted to stay behind and the actors decided to walk to this park 2 blocks away #and we walked there and went to the playground and climbed on things and had a moment of laughing and running around in the dark and i sat #on the swings and looked up and i could see the stars which is unusual bc of light pollution but i could see so many stars and i had a #realization of this is what being fully entirely happy is. my soul is fulfilled. i am full of love and joy down to the fiber of my being. i #didnt know i could have that. and we sang these stupid songs and laughed and laughed and laughed and i got into my dads car at #midnight and i cried because ive genuinely never felt sheer happiness like that before. it was complete & total contentment. and now today #i've been so sad! i've cried a lot lol its so sad that the show's over. what do i do now? what do i do with all the love i have? how do i go #on with my life now that it has been fundamentally forever changed? #theater kid tag #anyway. i've been teary all day. i love love i love pure unadulterated teenage joy #salem talks! #love tag #joy tag
