Meddle, Just a Little (Male!Reader x Ryan Lucan)

How about a fic where Alex, being the empath she is, immediately recognizes that the new guy in town and Ryan are so obviously into each other and also that they're both useless and need a nudge in the right direction...or maybe a shove.

"You do know how stupid it is to try and lie to me about your feelings, right?"

"I'm not- I'm not lying, Alex. I'm not in love."

"I'm not even an empath and I can see that's a lie." Steph butts in.

Ryan sighs. "Look, I'm not denying that I have a crush, but... we don't even know anything about each other. And... people like me don't just... go in, guns blazing."

"Weren't you literally a park ranger? Isn't that what you did?"

Ryan scoffs, and Steph lightly punches his arm.

"I'm just saying - if you don't take any risk, you don't get any reward."

"She's right. You gotta live a little, Ryan." Alex chirps, leaning her head against Steph's shoulder.

"And that's my cue to head on home." Ryan smirks.

"Much appreciated, Mr. Lucan." Steph giggles as Alex nuzzles against her neck. "Just remember - cute moments like this could be yours for the low low price of actually making a move!"

"Goodnight, Steph. Alex."

Alex smiles softly at Steph once Ryan actually leaves. "We're gonna have to meddle, aren't we?"

"I'll leave the meddling to you, o smooth one."

"Wow, you're just full of sweet-talk today..."

And so begins Alex's campaign of subtle manipulation.

First off, she makes polite conversation with you, and since she and Steph co-run the record store and live above the bar Ryan took over after the mess with Typhon, she's not far from either you or Ryan, since the Black Lantern is a pretty good place to hang out and get food.

And it's clear to her immediately, that whenever Ryan is near, your emotions spike with a thrill of excitement and nervousness.

So she dives deeper, and quickly asks Ryan if he would mind if you joined them all on Game Night, and amidst glares at her, he says he would not.

"Oh, I'm so sorry! I... totally told Charlotte I would take Ethan to the premiere of that movie! That movie he wants to see."

Steph is no actor, and very transparently adds, "And I have to go with you. Because... I'm the chaperone."

You chuckle. "Isn't Alex an adult?"

"Yeah, but you give her chocolate and she goes crazy!"

Alex raises an eyebrow. "Seriously?"

"Uh, feel free to hang out! It's a short movie, we can be back later-"

"But not too short, you know."

You sigh as they leave. "I'm sorry they roped you into this."

Ryan smiles. "They really don't leave well enough alone, do they?"

"I mean, I let slip one little time that I have a crush on you and they do this!"

Ryan freezes. "Well... I was under the impression that they did this because I had a crush on you."

"Oh."

"Yeah."

"I was gonna get around to actually asking you out." you say lamely. "It's just..."

"It's scary to put yourself out there. Even today."

"Yeah. Exactly."

Ryan chuckles. "Well... I hate to let them get away with it, but it might not be such a bad idea to go downstairs? Get a bite to eat together?"

You grin. "We can always get them back some other time."

He offers you his arm. "I figured I was crushing on you for a reason."

you’re relatively experienced so you feel comfortable out there alone - and for most of the hike you are

but then you discover an entrance to the mines

and you know its a bad idea to enter, what with all the ‘no trespassing’ and ‘danger: keep out’ signs everywhere (not to mention your own common sense)

but you think hey, what’s the worst that could happen?

like, lost lost

and you’re kind of freaking out a little because you swear you remember where you came in but you just can’t find the exit

but mostly you’re mad at yourself for letting your curiosity get you into this mess and now you have to radio the local parks station for rescue and god you are embarrassed

you reluctantly radio in and are met with perhaps the most delightful-seeming human you have ever spoken to:

‘haven springs ranger station, this is ryan!’

‘hi ryan, i um, this is a little embarrassing but, im kind of lost?’

‘oh don’t be embarrassed! happens quite a lot out here. can you see any distinct landmarks around you, like a weird boulder or fancy tree?’

when he finds you, you’re more than a little tongue-tied because he’s really cute

he guides you out of the mines in a bit of a rush because bad memories and once you’re finally out he takes a proper look at you and is like,,

so now he’s all flustered as well

it takes a hot second for conversation to start flowing but as you both trek down to Haven Springs (‘i need a drink after that,’ you say), you talk about absolutely everything

by the time you rock up to the bar you’re both absolutely smitten

alex is working the bar and notices IMMEDIATELY that y’all are ~vibin~ so she slips you two beers on the house and absolutely eavesdrops on your conversation whenever she’s not busy

you talk and talk until you realise you’re the only two left in the bar (apart from alex and steph who are not-so-subtly watching you both from the other end of the bar: ‘who is that??’ ‘i’ve never seen them before’ ‘are they on a DATE??’) and ryan realises that its way past closing

he leads you out the door (shooting a glare at the girls who giggle and wave as you leave) and nearly misses it when you ask for his number

‘in case i get lost again’

‘o-oh! yeah, yeah of course’ he’s blushing

‘or maybe a drink?’ you’re blushing

Why is his death of screen?? And why couldn't HE save Max in the darkroom? Because he obviously did feel a certain way about what has happened (his distressed voice mail proves that)

I am not saying he is good person, but I think it would be so much more interesting and twisted if he would have saved Max. As the obvious anti protagonist through out the game, it would be nice to see an other side to him. And for the plot!

Max- Demigirl but in a really specific way. If you're close or if you ask their pronouns, they'd say only they/them. ツSurprisingly, not a blanket stealer, she literally kicks any sort of warmth off of her at night because she moves around so much.

♡ Nightmares, in Before The Storm and Life Is Strange, they're just not as vivid and real as they were before. She wakes up and checks if you're still there, it's comforting for her to see you asleep.

ツIt's rare for her to fall asleep at a healthy time and even if she does, she'll wake up A LOT during the night.

♡ She tends to sleep in a lot and accidentally (sometimes purposely) leaves people/you on read because she rarely hears the notifications.

♡ Falls asleep on her back and wakes up on her back.

ツShe's like a calm mother bird, will play with your hair and you can't tell me she wouldn't fucking softly sing you to sleep. (oh my god)

♡ It helps her sleep when you're there, she likes looking at you and thinking about how grateful she is.

ツWill talk to you for hours when she should really be sleeping, talking about her drawings, classes or the bird she saw like last month.

♡ She tries to make sure to fall asleep at a healthy time, she plans her day out but is sometimes so busy studying that she completely forgets.

ツDepends on the day if she's a blanket stealer that night, if it's warm, she sees no need for any blankets but if it's freezing cold then you're the one suffering.

♡ Light sleeper, like you get up and suddenly she's getting up with you.

♡ Falls asleep on her side or her back but always wakes up on her back.

ツIt's not that bad sleeping next to Max, she'll maybe move a little during the night but nothing super major.

♡ HUGE blanket stealer, she knows what she's doing and will just smile and laugh if you confront her.

ツShe'll decide on sleeping then suddenly she needs to look something up or study and forgets that she needs sleep to survive until an hour or so later.

♡ Falls asleep pretty easily but if she can't she'll just wait a few minutes then go on a whole rant about her day and how she was hanging with Chloe the whole time.

ツSort of a light sleeper, if you need to go anywhere you've gotta crawl there or something.

🎭Rachel Amber:

♡ Falls asleep on her side and wakes up on her back.

ツLike Victoria, she has a whole routine before bed. Skincare, posting and scrolling through her socials, listening to music.

♡ Not a blanket stealer thankfully but she can be though depending on the temperature.

ツShe can also spend hours talking to you like Kate does, mainly talking about how drama's going for her or how badly she wants to leave Arcadia Bay.

♡ She mainly sticks to her healthy sleep schedule with no interruptions unless something major happens, like when she found out her dad was cheating on her mom. (pretty understandable.)

ツShe's a heavy sleeper, you gotta shake her a few times like she's a fucking salt shaker.

🎬 Victoria Chase:

♡ Oh jesus, she sleeps in ANY position like she could be hanging off the bed and still fall asleep. Mostly falls asleep on her back though, wakes up basically on the floor.

ツTakes hours doing her skincare and her skin is honestly GLOWING afterwards, face masks, expensive ass skin creams in those teeny tiny bottles, soft music playing in the background.

♡ BLANKET STEALER, BLANKET STEALER! Like she'll pull the blanket off of you while you're still awake and act extremely confused when you look at her with an annoyed look.

ツShe can maybe gossip a little before she falls asleep halfway during the conversation, you know because she starts sleep talking about the most random shit.

♡ Sticks to her sleep schedule, no matter what. Like there could be a whole loud ass fight in the hall but she just rolls her eyes or picks a fight with them before falling asleep.

ツHeavy sleeper, she has to set a shit ton of alarms and only you/Nathan know because she's really embarrassed about it.

♡ Dorky dork who falls asleep on his stomach and wakes up on his back or halfway off of the bed.

ツRoutine? Skincare? Nah, he's just a natural cutie.

♡ Moves a lot during the night and accidentally smacked the shit out of you once during the night, he was actually worried but nervously laughing the whole time, sleep talks a lot about the funniest, weirdest shit ever.

♡ Okay, everyone I write for has to hold you or be held in some way while sleeping but Nathan is on a WHOLE different level. An arm wrapped tightly around you that won't move no matter what, his head tucked into your neck or his leg wrapped around your waist. (no, no..why is he attractive??)

The Spirit of Haven Springs (Male!Reader x Ryan Lucan)

Oh wait, you know what sounds like a really cute idea?  Since people in the Life is Strange Universe just kinda have powers sometimes, imagine reader with druidic type abilities (able to communicate with nature and command the elements to an extent) meeting Ryan in the woods while they were traveling the country and the two instantly hit it off. 

As a park ranger, it's Ryan's job to make sure things are going alright in the forest around Haven Springs.

And Haven Springs isn't exactly a place people just come to, it's pretty secluded. Pretty much the only reason people show up is to do some day hiking in the woods or because they work with or at the mine. Or if they were born there.

"Hey! You okay over there?" Ryan calls when he sees the tent. He's not worried about poachers - there aren't a whole lot of protected or valuable species, and the woods don't have a lot of good game in them, due to the mine blasts.

He's more thinking someone's gotten lost.

"S-stay back!" you call, emerging from your tent, hands outstretched. The wind begins to howl, a chill running through you both.

Ryan pauses, stretching out his hands as well. "It's okay. I'm not armed. Not here to hurt you. I'm a park ranger."

He yelps in surprise when the branch sneakily tangling around his waist pulls taut and lifts him into the air. It curls around his arms and legs with frightening speed, holding him fast.

But then, he watches as a bird flutters down, landing on your outstretched arm. It warbles a little, and you tilt your head to listen.

"You're Ryan? Ryan Lucan?"

He nods, almost more surprised that you seemed to have spoken to the bird.

The tree branch sets him down and uncoils, freeing him.

"The birds say you're... a good man."

"I try to be."

"I'm sorry. It's just... I've been kinda jumpy lately. The bears say there's hunters around."

Ryan frowns. "So... why are you out here?"

You shrug. "Sometimes it's more peaceful in nature. I like wandering around. And, well... the whole talking to birds thing tend to make people think I'm nuts."

Ryan gives you a soft smile. "I mean... over in Haven Springs, they'll look at ya weird, but nothing much worse. Otherwise I'd have been sent away a long time back."

You chuckle at that, and Ryan continues. "I have this friend over there. They've got a... similar situation to yours. Maybe you two should meet? I'm sure we could get you a place to stay in town, if you don't mind."

"I... I dunno." you sigh. "It's hard to try and put down roots after so many times of having them torn up."

"I can't imagine what that's like." Ryan nods. "And I can't promise that you'll definitely want to stay, but... you seem like good people. And there are good people there. It's a better place than most to make a new start."

You nod. "I think that sounds... good."

He smiles warmly, and offers to help you break camp.

"So... you talk to birds too? At least I have an excuse that I understand them..." you tease.

"Everyone's a critic..." Ryan jokes, before helping you carry your stuff.

In the coming weeks, you'll meet Ryan's friend Alex, who has powers she barely understands, like you. You'll come to enjoy your life in Haven, and even help catch some illegal hunters. But when the time comes that you decide to stay, and Haven throws you a "homestaying" party and you kiss Ryan for the first time that night - you know that really, it was Ryan's open heart that helped you reach this point.

My favorite pricefield moment is in the first episode when Chloe has just gotten done bitching at Max and is driving her to her house (which: I know if MY best friend ignored me for five years I would drop her off somewhere else- not the point here though) and the camera kinda drags its way up Chloe’s tattoo to her face and she’s all lit by the setting sun-

What makes it my favorite is the fact that Max IMMEDIATELY reaches for her camera after this. LiS is from Max’s point of view even if most of the time we don’t see things from her exact perspective but to me it feels like Max was looking at all the changes and new details of Chloe and saw something she wanted to take a picture of (and if her camera wasn’t broken I totally believe she would have taken a picture)
