On novembers we welcome grief and numbness. On decembers, we celebrate them.

Prickling stillness. The same bed. Flattened pillows. It’s colder lately, despite the arrival of spring. I talk to God, but the sky is empty.
I’m kinder to myself nowadays. I tell myself you’d be proud. A gentle affirmation here and there. My tongue remembers the pattern of certain words, imprinted and engraved upon red flesh. Familiar arms wrapping across chests. Teeth chattering in the cold. Long fingers smoothening down dripping wet strands of hair.
I no longer question everything, no longer tormented by internal riot. Perhaps I have given up, the defeat slumping my shoulders, posture hunched. Silent defiance ignites me occasionally, but the smoldering coals remain ignored.
I linger in the sunshine for longer. Deep breaths instead of hastened gulps of air. Flavoured lattes. Untouched magazines. I read literature on the way home, chasing cascading raindrops on train windows with a calloused fingertip.
It’s almost September. It feels easier to breathe somehow.

The world is a pretty messed up place, by world I don’t certainly mean the nature, animals, rain, sunset and sunrise. They are magnificent, it’s the people who are messy as a whole. But there are some who are a little less messy or maybe some whose mess we don’t mind putting up with.

Words
Looks like I’ll be posting poetry here for a few days. Here’s a poem for your Saturday...
When I write I want it to mimic the 90s
No cell phones in place of what the heart wants to say
Nights midst muddy Philly Cheesesteaks as the air sings tunes clamorous
Bodies dressed in black hide hair swoops aligning with the orbits
Words caressed by truth leaving fabrication no room to settle
Ears sealed to the expressions of the core
Words of substance
Making room for dim light downward the airspace
Words of kisses joined by mocha aromas
Words meant to settle in tier creeks to be discovered in the latter
Then and now words facing future elegies
Words like raindrops during Texas springs
Them “mama can I get a popsicle” words
Words that move the parts of us we tucked in our inner child’s essence
Feels of red candied apples that stick like the sentence was meant for your art’s remedy
Words that stick to the tongue like warm butter
Meanings of nothingness wrapped in a strawberry kiss
Words that evoke song and dance
Words that read calmly, freely effortless bliss midst May showers
Words induced backwards depictions only eyes of soul’s version expounding consequence
Welcoming Mayhem like anxiety on a Church-Hill
Freeing self in pain’s bosom
Words that spark unease til God’s name becomes habit

tagged by @petesdragon to do my '6 favorite books of 2023,' but since it's Me, with more book recs than i know what to do with, i've switched it up a bit. these 6 books are favorites that have somehow gone unmentioned in my quarterly book rec posts from this year (1/2/3/4).
in selecting these, I prioritized (but didn't exclusively pick) books that i also feel haven't gotten sufficient acclaim/recognition in general. imo they're amazing reads, as my linked reviews suggest, but for some reason or another (in the case of perdido street station, this was legit an accident/oversight on my part lmao) didn't end up among my 36 total favorites.
the books:
Poupeh Missaghi, trans(re)lating house one
China Miéville, Perdido Street Station
Jamie Loftus, Raw Dog: The Naked Truth About Hot Dogs
McKenzie Wark, Reverse Cowgirl
Gloria Susana Esquivel, tr. Robin Meyers, Animals at the End of the World
Emma Donoghue, Slammerkin
tagging some people below - because of this spin i put on the tag (which you're free to follow or ignore) i'm tagging ppl i know Do Book Things and may have extras to share, but everyone is welcome to do this tag and share it with me!!

I couldn't find the old post I had on this so I could reblog so here's a new reminder of the Internet Archive account I use to list poetry collections and poetry-related nonfiction available on the Internet Archive for free.
I favorited another bunch of poetry collections today.
There are 3,559 books listed as of this morning.

Do you know of blogs that are similar to yours/have some of the same motifs? Preferably who use text id. i hope your day is well!
Hello! This isn't exactly what you asked for (because I'm not sure about blogs that are similar to mine or have the same motifs), but I've been meaning to do a recommendation list of blogs that post mainly literature. I've put an asterisk next to the blogs that use Text ID or post mainly in text format. I'm sure to have missed some blogs I wanted to include so I'll keep this updated and reblog when I add to it. By the way, I've recently discovered the Text ID function so I'll be adding it to my posts from now on.
