The Mother

Abortions will not let you forget.

You remember the children you got that you did not get,

The damp small pulps with a little or with no hair,

The singers and workers that never handled the air.

You will never neglect or beat

Them, or silence or buy with a sweet.

You will never wind up the sucking-thumb

Or scuttle off ghosts that come.

You will never leave them, controlling your luscious sigh,

Return for a snack of them, with gobbling mother-eye.

I have heard in the voices of the wind the voices of my dim killed

I have contracted. I have eased

My dim dears at the breasts they could never suck.

I have said, Sweets, if I sinned, if I seized

Your luck

And your lives from your unfinished reach,

If I stole your births and your names,

Your straight baby tears and your games,

Your stilted or lovely loves, your tumults, your marriages, aches,

and your deaths,

If I poisoned the beginnings of your breaths,

Believe that even in my deliberateness I was not deliberate.

Though why should I whine,

Whine that the crime was other than mine?—

Since anyhow you are dead.

Or rather, or instead,

You were never made.

But that too, I am afraid,

Is faulty: oh, what shall I say, how is the truth to be said?

You were born, you had body, you died.

It is just that you never giggled or planned or cried.

Believe me, I loved you all.

Believe me, I knew you, though faintly, and I loved, I loved you

Hi!! Figured I’d do an intro post.

I’m Aurelia! I’m going to be a junior next year and I like studying literally anything I fall down the rabbit hole for. However, I do like plants and poisons, which is what my latest research project is about. But if I’m told to go look up the inflation of the Russian ruble since 1866, I absolutely will and I will enjoy it.

My favorite subjects are history and chemistry, and I’m considering double majoring. I have absolutely no idea where I want to go to college because that sort of thing scares the heck out of me, but I want to succeed in life and be happy! That’s all!

I’m a Slytherin, an ENTP, and an Aquarius. My favorite aesthetic is dark academia, so this blog is going to be a combo of dark aca aesthetics, my own side projects, and studyblr if that makes any sense. I’m kind of incapable of focusing on one topic at a time. I’m fluent in English and can speak some French, and understand some Tagalog and Japanese. Tagalog because I’m Filipino, and Japanese because I’m a weeb.

My favorite anime is Bungou Stray Dogs, and I have a side blog called @sword-dad-fukuzawa if you’re interested in what I may post there. I also like the Seven Deadly Sins and Naruto, and I love talking about anime in general! My favorite book series is Six of Crows. My favorite game is Dungeons and Dragons, because I’m absolute trash at console games and have been called a filthy casual on numerous occasions. Anyway! I’m excited to be on Tumblr even though this website scares me!

Things that bring me back into admiring my existence (2020 summer edition)

  • Peering up at the moon for so long that my neck starts aching and that the earth feels so minor once I look back down at it

  • Waking up before everyone in the house, either before dawn or in the fresh morning (because I’d sleep for some hours after the dawn and wake up again)

  • Looking out from the window during a sunny day and letting every small detail of the quiet street send my soul into another dimension (it looks like a small village and it takes my breath away sometimes)

  • Finding myself uncontrollably tearing up while praying or just looking up at the sky ever so spiritually, feeling so grateful for every sense I have and for the heartbeat which confirms my vitality

  • Hugging my mom while being totally aware she’s the most precious gift I have and seeing her smile because of me (💕)

  • Making a little (salty) meal and enjoying it alone

  • Texting my best friend, discussing theology and criticizing the different aspects of some common beliefs, then the discussion getting carried away to metaphysics, then us getting carried up to some of our highest spirits, then back to theology

  • Getting passionately curious about something and finding its answer, then taking notes of it

  • Having my own moments of thoughtfulness, then feeling so peaceful after a long day of stress and silent anger

Life’s so beautiful.

Fuseli, Henery. Titania and the Bottom. 1790, Tate Britain, London.

“I know a bank where the wild thyme blows,

Where oxlips and the nodding violet grows,

Quite over-canopied with luscious woodbine,

With sweet musk-roses and with eglantine:

There sleeps Titania sometime of the night,

Lulled in these flowers with dances and delight.”

-William Shakespeare - A Midsummer Night Dream.

Hypothetically, what if we were a pair of star-crossed artistic lovers, me a painter and you a musician, and we would write eachother letters asking the other to meet us by the riverbank. There you would play soothing love songs on your violin, and I would paint beautiful portraits of you as you did so, and we would no longer exist in the world we had before, but would instead become the pure essence of scholarly romantic escapism?

Purely hypothetical.

Don’t let the dark academia community make you think you can only read classics, most of which have thinly veiled bigotry. Read fantasy, read YA, read romance, read sci-fi. It’s not what you read. It’s how you read it. Think of every book you read as a classic. Approach it the way you would Dickens or Shakespeare. Analyze the language, think about the author’s intent, the cultural impact, everything. Every book is a classic to someone
