I hope this isn't rude. I almost wish you kept Ari for firefighter. Nothing wrong with Curtis, but why change it?

Well, nonnie, when firefighter won one of the top spots in my birthday polls, I had every intention of writing a story with Ari. As the idea for the story formed more, I didn't think he fit with my vision. Don't get me wrong. I think grumpy Ari and a sunshine reader work VERY well. The MOMENT I try to force my vision, however, it shifts the story down a path that doesn't suit my muse and I. Light It Up wasn't meant to be Ari's story. This story was meant for Curtis. And I'm glad I went with my gut.

Curtis is also a character I WANT to write more of. Minus his headcanon in my motocross AU, this is all I have for him. Putting him in an environment that's the OPPOSITE of his canon is also fun.

I could be wrong, but I feel like I've seen a few firefighter!Ari stories floating around? Not that I can't write that trope or AU with him, we don't own them, but there are some on Tumblr if you prefer to read a firefighter fic with Ari as the character. I hope you enjoy them.

A Cat's Attention

An Arson Cat Tale

Like any other cat, the arsonist watched humans go about their day. Doing trivial things like going to work and wasting their lives away.

Whenever the cat's human would leave a window open, they'd go out and take a stroll around the block. Picking up the latest cat gossip.

Betty: a british long fur who is on her fourth life, two new kittens that were adopted from across the street, and the maine coon Zawar was messing around in alleyways.

There's more but the furry little arsonist got bored thinking about it, not really interested since that was all last week.

Only one thing kept their attention.

"Come here darling!", the demon said and pulled the human closer. "I'll show you how to properly flip a pancake."

The cat's ear twitched as they watched, seated on the counter near the stove.

At first they didn't trust him. The shadows were rude the night he arrived and bugged them to no end. They had to run into the human's room for protection.

But one day that changed when the red deer made fire appear out of nothing.

"Mow!", the cat began to paw at the stove.

"No.", their human quickly said.

Why did the demon get to play with fire? That's not fair. The cat thought, tail swishing around in annoyance.

The red man winked at them before continuing to show the human how to flip pancakes.

Jumping off the counter, the cat made their way over to the living room, knowing from the wink that the demon would let them out later.

Curling up on the couch, the furry little arsonist wondered about something.

Why didn't the demon leave after being released from the crystal prison? They thought before letting out a yawn, closing their eyes for a nap.
