New York used to have elegant light poles rather than the plain, humdrum ones in use today. Joseph H. Freedlander designed bronze towers in 1922 that were placed along Fifth Avenue, but taken down by 1929. He then designed a 4-way signal like the one above, which stood at Fifth and 47th St., with the statue of Mercury atop. They were placed along Fifth Ave from 8th to 57th Streets from 1931 to 1964. This photo is from April 1959.

In keeping with our commitment to sustainable and nature-friendly lighting solutions, we chose a low colour temperature of 3000 Kelvin that complies with the Dark Sky ordinance, ensuring that light only sheds downwards.
