Ekko
Given Jinx’s less than glowing first impression of her new roommate, Ekko hadn’t expected her and Lux to get on so well. At Jericho’s, seeing them so entranced by each other, he couldn’t believe it. He watched them from the kitchen, stole glances when service slowed. The pair were so at ease together, like they’d known each other for years. Nothing about how they interacted seemed forced or out of place.
Jinx was being true to herself, not like with Evelynn. Her eager smiles and animated mannerisms ebbed and flowed organically, spurred on by whatever she felt. Ekko imagined Jinx looked like that around him, too.
Funny, how comfortable she was with Lux after so little time. She already seemed attached. What if Lux ended up hurting her like everyone else did?
The worry gnawed at him. Stopped him from sleeping.
Hardly anyone in Jinx’s life stuck around. Even Vi chose her girlfriend in Piltover over her own sister. Ekko would never forgive Vi for that. Jinx had him, the asshole formally known as Silco, and no one else. No one.
Friends came and went, rarely more than acquaintances. Most people grew sick of her after a while. Sick of the chaos and the unpredictable mood swings, mostly. Even his best friend had never warmed to her. Scar wouldn’t say it outright, but he didn’t understand Jinx’s appeal.
People didn’t get her. It made Ekko rage just thinking about it. Her spark was wasted on them. But Lux…
It was early days, but Lux seemed different.
They hadn’t spoken much about why Jinx had grown so infatuated, only that she had, and wanted to do something about it. Lux’s looks were the most obvious starting point, but for Jinx to be so enamoured so early on, it had to run deeper than that. There was real chemistry there.
Had they…?
Damn.
‘Jinx…’ Ekko’s voice rasped into the quiet of his bedroom. He sounded like he had a bug in his throat.
It was early morning, barely seven a.m. Soon, he’d have to get ready for work, and Jinx would return to her dorm room. If he didn’t speak to her now, he’d lose his nerve and end up stressing about it for the rest of the day.
She stirred next to him. The parts of her face not covered by her blue tresses revealed the frown of a girl rebelling against consciousness.
‘Jinx,’ he said again, as he brushed the hair from her face and cupped her cheek.
She smiled and leaned into him, hands finding his waist and squeezing, like she was checking he was really there.
Now that he somewhat had her attention, he could ask what he needed to.
‘You and Lux,’ he began, already nervous of her answer, ‘nothing’s… happened… between you two… right?’
‘What…?’ Her tone was groggy and nonchalant. She sat up a little, strained to open her eyes so she could look at him. ‘What d’you mean?’
He propped himself up on his elbow, held her gaze.
‘Straight up,’ he said, and continued stroking her cheek so she understood he wasn’t angry. ‘I can tell there’s something going on with her, beyond you thinking she’s hot… I saw how you were with her before I joined.’
‘Oh…’
‘Hey, I don’t mind,’ he said, trying to reassure her. ‘I mean, isn’t that kinda the point of exploring all this stuff… to be open to falling for other people? Open with each other?’
‘I just like her is all,’ she said. ‘It’s not like… it’s not the same as with you. It’s new and… and it doesn’t have to be a big deal if you don’t want it to be. We haven’t kissed or done anything. But I guess… I think she wants to, maybe? I definitely want to.’
‘Okay,’ he said. ‘Just, uh… just let me know if anything happens. And be careful. Lux seems cool but, I don’t know, I guess I just don’t know her that well yet. I don’t want you getting hurt.’
‘Pfft, don’t worry,’ she scoffed, like she was unbreakable.
He wished he didn’t know better. Wished he hadn’t seen her broken.
Lying back on his hard mattress, he pulled her down with him. With a giggle, she happily snuggled into place as the little spoon.
‘Tell me about her,’ he said, as he traced circles along Jinx’s body, following the curves of her hips, along her tattoos and ridges.
Goosebumps speckled her skin. She sighed and bucked her hips into him, encouraging him to keep feeling her, to deepen his grip.
‘Hmm…’ She met his hands with her own and squeezed. ‘She’s like… Bizarro me.’
He frowned to himself, nuzzled into Jinx’s neck like it would help him think. Her statement didn’t compute. Jinx and Lux seemed like polar opposites. He could try to decipher what she meant, but he wanted her to explain.
‘What d’you mean?’
‘I dunno,’ she grumbled, sleepier than before. ‘ND things…’
Okay, maybe now wasn’t the time for big brain questions. That phrase was all he needed to hear, anyway. ND things. Gotcha.
He stilled his stroking, loosened his grip around her, and closed his eyes, relaxed into the moment.
‘Y’know, it’s funny,’ he said with a faint smile. ‘I really thought we’d do it this time. The whole bye for now thing.’
‘Yeah,’ Jinx said, half asleep. ‘Me too.’ She turned to face him. He squinted his eyes back open as she kissed him on the cheek. ‘…Ekko?’
‘Yeah?’
‘Does it bother you?’
‘Does what bother me?’
‘That I can’t leave you the fuck alone.’ Her tone was a little cocky and abrasive, cloaking her vulnerability.
‘Jinx,’ he kissed her lips, tender and secure, ‘I never want you to leave me alone. Ever.’
‘But—’
‘Nope, shut up,’ he said, and kissed her again.
‘But we were trying to be sensible,’ she urged. ‘Now we’re being idiots.’
‘Okay, so we’re being idiots,’ he said. ‘I don’t care.’
‘But your job’s full time now, and—’
‘Nope,’ he insisted, his heart bounding leagues beyond his head. ‘We’ll make it work, okay? No more trying to push ourselves apart. If neither of us want to do it, then why the fuck are we trying to, huh? Why not just… just be together?’
His chest tightened at the thought of Jinx disagreeing, but her soft eyes and perky grin calmed his concern.
‘…I have literally no idea,’ she beamed. ‘Why d’you always talk so much sense, boy saviour?’
‘Because I’m awesome.’
‘Sounds about right,’ she snickered and kissed him deeply. Swirled her tongue with his. Grazed her open palm against his crotch.
‘Fuck…’ He moaned into her mouth.
‘By the way,’ she said, sultry and low, ‘I know you like her too.’
‘Huh?’
‘Lux…’ She grabbed his bulge through his boxers. Squeezed back and forth. ‘I’m not the only one intrigued by her, am I?’
‘No,’ he gulped, struggling to contain the heat twisting in his gut. Fuck. She knew exactly how to touch him the way he liked. ‘You’re not the only one.’
She kissed him hard and bit down on his lip, making him yelp in glorious pain. He groaned, his cock yearning to be free from his boxers, to be inside her.
‘Knew it!’ Brimming with pride and lust, Jinx moved her kisses to his neck, sucking and licking, enjoying him as she pleased. ‘I saw the way you looked at her in our room, and at Jericho’s…’ She spoke in hastened breaths as she licked down his torso, hands grabbing and stroking him all over. ‘She’s special, Ekko.’
‘I believe you,’ he said, and he meant it, but his lover was clouding his mind. ‘Maybe we should… hang out with her… again… sometime…’
‘Mhmm,’ Jinx mumbled her agreement as she kissed down his snail trail. ‘For now, though…’ His throbbing erection tasted the air and then the warmth of her mouth. She enveloped him with her tongue and popped him out a second later with a cheeky grin. ‘I get to enjoy you all on my own.’
Oh, gods. Yes.
 Jinx
It was nearly midday by the time Jinx traipsed back into the dorm room. Lux’s bed was empty, made up, and adorned with fluffy cushions. The t-shirt Jinx had lent her lay on top, neatly folded, as though Lux had never worn it at all. Ouch. Jinx assumed—hoped—Lux would keep it as a memento, or at the very least, still be there wearing it. Instead, Lux had fucked off somewhere and left the t-shirt behind, like it meant nothing. Like the whole night meant nothing.
Too exhausted to deal with the pangs of upset pummelling her chest, she kicked off her shoes and slumped into bed.
Hours later, Jinx tossed in and out of sleep, unaware of the time and unbothered by the concept. In the stubborn bliss of her afternoon nap, she rolled over and stretched out her limbs as wide as they would go. The sheets were soft on her bare skin, and she hummed in contentment. Imagined Lux there with her, warm and irresistible under the covers…
A wave of frustration escaped in a strangled groan. Her eyes cracked open and wandered to Lux’s sterile bed.
Where was she?
The room was dead without her.
Suddenly bored beyond belief, Jinx picked up her phone. Ekko had messaged a while ago. A suitable distraction.
 Ekko:
this morning was… wow.
can’t stop thinking about it
u get home safe? how’s our fave blondie?
 Jinx:
i know ;) <3
home safe xxx
no sign of blondie… beginning to think u like her more than i do ;) xxx
She chuckled to herself, but as she moved onto the other message in her inbox, her face fell to a scowl.
 S:
Good job last night, Jinx. Still making me proud.
Proud. She hated when he used that word. Hated the twinge of validation it gave her even more. Like she needed Silco to approve of her. Pfft. She already knew she’d done a good job. She’d sold out of shimmer, just like she promised. No more needed to be said.
Her angry thumbs shot out a sharp reply.
 Jinx:
Thanks. Would’ve sold nothing without your favourite little helper, though… x
 S:
You alone are more than capable. See you next week.
 Jinx:
Yep.
Before she could dwell too much on Silco’s words, Ekko replied. He must’ve been on his break or something.
 Ekko:
fr? did lux not get back safe last night?
Ugh. She should’ve known he’d respond like that. He was such a worrier.
 Jinx:
relax hero, she’s fine.
Her words were more cutting than she’d intended. It wasn’t Ekko who had annoyed her. Lux was the one who’d made her indifference towards her perfectly clear, not him. Never him. He rarely annoyed her. Not in any way that mattered.
 She followed up:
sorry, been a weird day i guess <3 xxx
 Ekko:
okay, if you say so
i have her no. if u wanna check up on her?
gotta get back to jeri in 5 but can u give her a call or sth?
 Jinx:
srsly, ekko? >:( xx
 Ekko:
tell her i insisted
 Jinx:
ugh
i hate you <3 xxx
 Lux
That morning, the campus map led Lux out onto a sprawling sports field of fading green, dying grass. There were people here and there, strolling or cycling past, sat in groups, soaking up the September sun.
She settled herself at the base of a broad oak tree. Cross-legged under the cool shade of the canopy, she retrieved her sketchbook and pencil case from her satchel, and stared at the first, blank ivory page. In a handful of days, she wouldn’t have the luxury of drawing or painting without scrutiny from her lecturer and peers. This sketchbook, she decided, was for her alone to do with as she wished.
With a freshly sharpened pencil, she made the preliminary sketch of the picture in her mind’s eye: Jinx and Ekko, arm in arm, walking away from her under the harsh glow of The Lanes’ neon lights.
It needed paint to bring it to life, but that required a proper setup, and with Jinx coming and going from their room, it made sense to wait until lectures started before finishing it properly. That way, she could make use of the art studios around campus and stay out of Jinx’s hair. She didn’t know where the studio was yet, but that was a problem for another day. For the time being, the important thing was keeping it from Jinx.
The last thing she wanted was for Jinx to find out that she and Ekko had inspired a painting. It seemed… inappropriate, somehow. Like it crossed an invisible, unspoken boundary.
In holding Jinx’s hand, Lux had already overstepped. If she wasn’t careful, she’d alienate them both completely.
By the time the sketch was complete, the warmth of the day had faded to a cold, cloudy grey. The breeze under the tree grew bitter, and Lux shivered through her coat and layers of clothing. Wondered about going back. Back to the room she shared with Jinx…
Oh, gods. Lux couldn’t face her. Or Ekko. Not yet. Their night at Jericho’s was surreal and wonderful and intense, and she didn’t know how to process any of it. Until she’d figured it out, she needed to keep her distance from both of them.
The wind picked up pace, sending her blonde locks flailing about her face and assaulting the pages of her sketchbook. She packed away her supplies and huddled up, tucked her hands under her arms to warm them up a bit. Another hour outside wouldn’t do any harm, she supposed. Maybe she could find a nice café somewhere to kill some more time?
Was Jinx home yet? Had she noticed Lux wasn’t there? Did she care?
From somewhere deep in her coat pocket, her phone buzzed. Quiet at first, then louder with each chime. The number was unfamiliar, so she ignored it, but it rang again, and again, and again.
Lux groaned. Who was it, and why, oh why, were they bombarding her phone? Why couldn’t they get the hint? She would never answer.
Seconds later, a text popped up from the same number. She didn’t need to unlock her phone to get the message, loud and clear, typed out in pissed off capital letters:
 BLONDIE! IT’S JINX!!
Okay, Jinx was awake after all, and had definitely noticed her absence. Was she angry? Was it about last night?
Maybe Jinx had finally realised that Lux was nothing but a loser. Beneath her.
Or maybe Ekko didn’t like how quiet she was around him?
What if she’d offended them by going home early? Sure, Jinx said it was okay, but what if she only said that to be nice?
Sometimes people lied in an attempt at kindness (another of Garen’s pearls of wisdom). Jinx didn’t seem the type, but what did Lux know? She never knew with people. And people never understood. Why would Jinx be any different?
She’d ruined it, hadn’t she? If she’d stayed out with them, if she’d faked it and pushed herself to breaking point, maybe she could’ve kept them close. Kept them as friends. But they were too cool for her, way too cool, and last night confirmed it. There was no way Jinx and Ekko liked her. Not really. Not the way she liked them.
Her chest constricted and she bit her bottom lip bloody, as she typed out a response.
Sorry! I don’t really do phone calls, especially if I don’t know the number. Is everything okay? Xx
No, too wooden. Why was she talking to Jinx so formally? No, no, no. It was too awkward. Too much exposition. She deleted it and started again.
Whoops, didn’t know it was you! All good? Xx
Much better. But were the kisses too much? Jinx didn’t add a kiss to hers… Lux sent it with the kisses removed.
It showed up as read almost immediately.
Breathe. Just breathe.
 Jinx:
whatever dude i’m bored af, where are u?
 Hiding from you…
 Lux:
Sports field. Why?
Huh. Should she have lied and led Jinx astray? If Jinx wanted to look for her (for some unknown, unfathomable reason), there were a dozen other places she would’ve looked before the sports field.
Maybe Lux wanted to be found…
She shrugged off the notion; best not to hope for something so unlikely.
 Jinx:
sports field ahhahahahahhaaa wtfff
lol okay blondie, whatever does it for you i guess
k but srsly i’m losing my mind here lol
What was Lux supposed to say to that? She was losing her mind, too.
 Lux:
Back soon :)
That settled it, then. She had to go back and face reality. Meltdown, be damned. She’d plaster on a smile and act like Jinx’s bestie for the rest of the day until Jinx inevitably grew bored of her and left to see Ekko, or the many other friends she surely had on campus or in Zaun.
At least Lux had finished the sketch; the mess of the last twenty-four hours wasn’t completely in vain.
 Jinx
Jinx couldn’t figure it out. Why had Lux spent the best part of her day on the sports field, of all places? She wasn’t the sporty type. Maybe she was there to people watch, or… Oh. She was there to get away from their room, wasn’t she? To get away from Jinx. Of course. Why else would she have left that t-shirt behind and disappeared before Jinx came home?
Lux was done with her. That was quick. It usually took a few weeks, at least, but a couple of days…? What happened? Was Jinx too intense, too keen, too excitable? Was it because they’d held hands? Lux initiated it, but still… should Jinx have pulled away? Was it too much? What if it freaked Lux out and she couldn’t process it? Was she even out?
Fuck, was Lux even queer?
Jinx had assumed Lux’s sexuality based on body language, intuition, and fucking vibes, but what if it was bullshit? What if Lux was just another pretty straight girl who was only being friendly with Jinx because they were stuck sharing a dorm room? Lux was on the spectrum and their brains were wired in similar ways, but so what? That alone meant nothing.
Plus… well… Lux clearly preferred Ekko. That much was obvious. She clammed up and went all shy the second he joined them at Jericho’s, like a schoolgirl face-to-face with her crush.
Fuck, fuck, fuck. How had she gotten it so wrong? Lux liked Ekko, not her. Lux liked Ekko, and Jinx was someone she had to endure if she wanted to get close to him. It made so much sense. How could she have thought different? What a fucking idiot.
Jinx paced back and forth between the two beds, eyes on that damn t-shirt. After seeing Lux in that thing, how it clung to her in all the right places, she swore she’d never listen to The Smiths in the same way again. And now that she knew her feelings weren’t reciprocated… FUCK. She wanted to set it on fire, along with the whole room. Maybe the whole goddamn campus while she was at it.
Okay. No. That wasn’t her. Not anymore.
She carded her fingers through her hair. Gripped onto the base of her braids and pulled. Twisted each braid around the corresponding arm like constricting pythons. Pulled and pulled and pulled. Head arched back, arms outstretched, the roots of her hair growing sore with each tug, she closed her eyes. Groaned hopelessly. Breathed in deep. Held it a while. Let the air settle in her lungs. Exhaled slowly.
Okay. It was okay.
Maybe Lux was interested in her, and maybe she wasn’t. Either way, she was okay. Everything would be okay. She had Ekko. She had her degree to focus on. The world wouldn’t end if Lux didn’t like her. She really fucking hoped Lux liked her, but if not, she could live with it. She had to.
Her eyes fell back to the t-shirt, and her breaths grew ragged. Fuckkkk. She couldn’t do it. No fucking way. She couldn’t just sit around, waiting, not knowing how Lux felt. Especially when she knew exactly where to find her.
Zaun Metropolitan’s sports field was about half a mile from their dorm. Jinx ran it in two minutes. As she slinked along the hedge-rowed path towards the main body of grass, she slowed to a steady stride and looked out for a shock of blonde amidst the grey of the late afternoon. It was ten minutes since Lux’s last text, and given her sloth-like pace, if she had left since then Jinx would’ve already bumped into her. She knew Lux was still out there, doing whatever the hell it was that she was doing.
Squinting out upon the horizon, Jinx erupted in a giggle as she finally spotted Little Miss Sunshine sat with her spine propped up against a tall oak, staring at the cross-section of leaves and sky above, oblivious to the world around her.
Jinx’s long, strong legs made short work of the distance between them. Lux didn’t stir as she approached.
‘Blondieeeee,’ she sang out obnoxiously loud, and crashed down next to Lux. Spread herself out on the grass, gangly limbs splayed in every direction.
‘Jinx!’ Lux whipped around to the source of the disturbance. ‘I was just about to—’ She cut herself off to examine the t-shirt hanging off Jinx’s frame, ‘—is that…?’
Jinx smirked and put her hands behind her head, stretching out her torso to allow Lux a full view of the t-shirt she’d left behind. The Smiths, Hatful of Hollow. Well, if Lux wasn’t interested in wearing it anymore, what was the harm in showing it some love?
It was a slightly petty move, but Lux’s reaction made it worthwhile. Her frown deepened, and she swallowed heavily as though holding back tears.
With her head cocked at an uncomfortable angle, Jinx’s gaze drilled into Lux’s semi-upside-down profile. The soft angles of her jaw, the elegant slope of her nose, her grey-blue eyes twinkling in the twilight. If all Lux wanted was friendship, Jinx wasn’t sure she could deliver. Not when she looked like that…
But blondie’s expression wasn’t quite that of a friend. Her pupils dilated, flickering all over Jinx’s form, like nowhere was safe to linger too long. Her cheeks grew rosier by the second. Was… was Lux checking her out?
A fire lit in her belly at the thought, and she licked her teeth, imagined gliding her tongue over Lux’s lips.
‘Why’re you wearing that?’ Lux’s voice was timid. Embarrassed, even. Something about Jinx wearing that t-shirt made her all kinds of overwhelmed.
She cared. Jinx wearing that t-shirt meant something to her. Last night meant something.
Jinx’s fire spread to her core, and she rolled onto her side, facing Lux with her legs pressed tightly together.
‘First thing I grabbed,’ she shrugged, and peered up at Lux with a questioning smile. ‘What’ve you been doing out here all day?’
‘Um, I don’t know… Getting some fresh air?’
Lux’s intonation was a dead giveaway. She was hiding something.
‘In Zaun?’ Jinx probed. ‘Why?’
‘Seemed like a nice day,’ Lux said, as she picked at the grass around her feet.
Jinx didn’t reply. She felt like running straight back to their room and locking the door. Gods, people were fucking impossible sometimes. Even the cute little princess. Why couldn’t she just cut the bullshit and be direct? She had spent her day avoiding Jinx. Why?
Why, why, why!?
‘So, um…’ Lux ripped a buttercup off of its stalk and began prizing its petals off, one by one. ‘How’s Ekko? What’d you guys get up to when I left last night?’
Of course, Lux was asking about Ekko, the only one of them she cared about.
No. Lux checked her out. The t-shirt meant something. It showed that Lux cared about both of them, not just Ekko. It was tangible proof of a connection. A fond memory between just the two of them. Getting ready together. Their night at Jericho’s. Talking about whatever came to mind, not worrying if it made them sound stupid. Exploring the differences in where they were from, their frames of reference, their shared scepticism and taste in alcohol. Making eyes at each other over their drinks. Holding hands…
Geez. Who was she kidding? Jinx was just being Jinx. Delusional. Getting carried away, like she always did. Idiot.
She needed Ekko for a second opinion. What time did he finish work, again? All she wanted to do was escape to his place and snuggle up on his bed. She never should’ve left it that morning.
‘Jinx?’ Lux prompted her with a little nudge to her leg.
The contact stung more than it should have, especially when Lux followed it up with a dimpled smile. Fuck.
‘What’d you guys get up to? Have fun?’
‘All the fun in the world, blondie,’ Jinx drawled. Circulated the clubs, got high, sold some cold hard drugs, made some cold hard cash, and then went back to Ekko’s where he fucked me senseless until we passed out. Jealous? ‘Ekko missed you, though.’
‘Really?’ Lux’s pretty grey-blue eyes lit up.
Ugh. Rejection pierced Jinx’s chest and tugged at her features, but she forced it down and pushed out a toothy grin instead. Rolled back onto her back with a thud.
‘Yup!’ She accidentally yelled.
Grey clouds blanketed the sky, gearing up for a night of rainfall. Jinx closed her eyes and wished for a storm. Anything to detract from the fire ripping her insides apart. Lux’s rejection had accelerated the flames, sent them blazing straight to Jinx’s heart.
It hurt, and there was nothing Jinx could do but endure it. If Lux wanted Ekko but not her, she had to accept that. In her head, she repeated the same mantra as before: she had Ekko, she had her degree to focus on, the world wouldn’t end if Lux didn’t like her.
Life would go on like it always did.
With her fire suppressed, Jinx sat up and mirrored Lux’s crossed legs. They met each other’s eyes fondly, then both turned their focus to the grass and foliage surrounding them.
‘Ekko asked about you, actually,’ Jinx said. ‘Gave me your number so I could check on you.’
‘…he did?’
‘Duh,’ she huffed, and couldn’t stop herself from rolling her eyes. ‘Ekko’s good like that. He didn’t get to hang out with you as much as I did, so, I dunno… Guess he wanted to make sure you were alright after you left early.’
‘Oh… right.’ Lux tossed Jinx a fragile, unconvincing grin, and tore up a huge clump of grass. Rolled it in her palms until the chlorophyll inside bled onto her skin.
Shit. Jinx had said the wrong thing, hadn’t she? Sure, she was in pain, but that didn’t mean she wanted Lux to feel it. Lux ended the night early for her own mental health, Jinx understood that. It wasn’t fair to imply otherwise, or to try and make her feel bad about that.
A wide patch of the field in and around Lux’s lap was roughly cropped and growing bald, like she had attacked it with a pair of jagged scissors. Jinx’s focus flickered from the grass’ bad haircut to Lux’s trembling fingers, and sore, nerve-bitten lips.
Shit, shit, shit. Jinx was so wrapped up in her own messy emotions that she hadn’t properly considered how Lux must’ve felt. That girl was out there imploding, and Jinx was too selfish to notice.
Shit, shit, fucking bastard shit.
‘He gets it, don’t worry, it’s totally fine that you left, you know, no hard feelings.’ Jinx spluttered the words out, mind racing over tongue. ‘He’s used to dealing with my bullshit, believe me, nothing you ever do or say around him will ever be as fucked as some of the crap I’ve put him through.’
She took a breath before she said too much. Recalibrated.
‘I just mean, uh… Ekko’s a really good dude, you know. He gets it, so please just… don’t worry about it. I think he wants to get to know you a little better, that’s all. And like, we’re roomies, so, obviously he’ll—’
‘He wants to get to know me…?’ Lux asked, taken aback. ‘Why?’
Gods, it was like nothing else Jinx had said mattered. Fine. It was fine. She’d need to set fire to something later, but sure, it was fine. Blondie had boy saviour on the brain. Lucky him. She met Lux’s grin with her own.
‘Have you seen yourself? You’re fucking hot, that’s why!’ Once again, Jinx yelled without meaning to. Couldn’t quite control what she said next, either: ‘Plus, he knows I like you, so he’s curious.’
Whoops. That was probably too much information.
‘What?’ Lux asked. ‘I’m hot, and he’s curious…? What’re you talking about?’
Of course, Jinx told Lux she liked her, and Lux focused on the parts about Ekko. Cast aside, once a-fucking-gain.
Time to try a slightly more direct approach…
Toes twitching in her boots, she brought her knees up to her chest and cuddled herself. Chewed on the inside of her cheek like it was her dinner.
‘Blondie,’ she cooed sweetly. ‘Do they have polyamory in Demacia? Like, is it a thing there?’
‘Erm…’ Lux laughed awkwardly, like she didn’t know what else to do. ‘Yeah, it’s a thing, Jinx. Why?’
‘What d’you think of it?’
‘Like, as a concept, or…?’
‘Sure, yeah. As a concept. Whatever.’
‘Uh, I’m not sure. I’ve never really thought about it, to be honest.’ Lux plucked another buttercup and twirled it round and round in her fingers, creating a hypnotic spiral of rich, vibrant yellow, still bright under the darkening sky. ‘I suppose, as a concept, it’s… I don’t know… It seems complicated, but relationships are complicated anyway, so… who’s to say which form of complication is right or wrong, you know?’
So true.
‘It probably depends on the person,’ Lux continued, and met Jinx’s gaze with a small grin, ‘or… people… I’d have to look into it more to form a real opinion.’
Huh… okay. So, Lux wasn’t totally against the concept, at least. That was… something.
‘Why’d you ask?’
‘Just wondering,’ Jinx said. ‘Ekko and I have always kinda liked the idea of opening ourselves up to it, but, uh… not gonna lie, it’s fucking hard to meet people who’re worth risking it over.’ People like you.
‘Is that why you don’t call him your boyfriend?’ Lux asked. ‘It’s like you’re not… claiming him as yours… or something? Like, if you don’t claim each other, other people can have you, too?’
Oh, blondie, so keen to understand but saying all the wrong things.
‘Other people can have me?’ Jinx derided with a chuckle. ‘What? Like dating or fucking someone makes them your possession? Sheesh, tell me how ya really feel.’
‘Ah, well, you’ve got me there.’ Lux spoke dryly, but her eyes sparkled with mischief. ‘Beneath this shy, artistic exterior beats the cold, shallow heart of a traditionalist. Never mind becoming a professional painter, oh no. Just like any woman worth their dowry, my ultimate dream is to be owned by a man.’
‘What a confession!’ Jinx cackled. ‘So glad you could finally own your truth.’
‘Right?’ Lux crinkled her nose, almost breaking her composure. ‘Here we both are, owning our truths, no judgement. What a time to be alive.’
‘Okay, but seriously, though…’ Jinx swayed playfully into Lux’s side, knocking her a little. ‘Ekko and I have definitely claimed each other. Don’t need words to do that.’
Lux blushed, like she was imagining what claiming each other without words entailed. Jinx could’ve shown her, but she needed to know how Lux felt first.
Tentative, she unfurled and straightened her legs back out onto the grass. Leant forwards, stretching her back and extending her arms so that her fingers reached the tips of her Doc Marten’s. Mid-stretch, she rested her face on her knees. Considered her next moves. Next words. How was she supposed to navigate this? What would Ekko do?
No, fuck that. What Ekko would do was right for him, not her. What would Jinx do?
Jinx would go for it. Fuck it all to hell.
She looked back, and Lux’s breath hitched. Eyes fixed on hers before they flickered away. So, the princess was checking her out again, huh? Seemed like a pretty fucking clear sign. Yep. Difficult to doubt that one, even for Jinx.
‘So, Lux,’ she smirked. ‘If it depends on the person, what kinda person might tempt you?’
‘Tempt me into what?’ Lux asked, clueless as ever.
‘Seriously?’ She teased. ‘Come on, you have to know what I mean. Think about it for like two seconds.’
Lux’s eyes shifted and she bit her lip as she mulled it over. The second she caught on, she sunk into herself with a sheepish, ‘oh… I don’t know.’
‘You don’t know?’ Jinx pressed. Spit it out, blondie. ‘You don’t have a type? Gender preference? Nothing?’
‘Um… not really…’ Lux perked up with a small grin, ‘as long as they’re not like my ex, it’s all good.’
‘Oh, yeah?’ Jinx snickered. No gender preference, huh? Promising… ‘What was your ex like?’
‘A dick, mostly,’ Lux sighed. ‘Ezreal was just… I dunno. We were on very different wavelengths… Take your question about polyamory, for instance. No way would he have answered that with anything other than some smart-arse comment about it being greedy or weird or something. He was so closed-minded. Wouldn’t have even tried to understand.’
Noted: Lux didn’t seem to think polyamory sounded greedy or weird. Also promising.
‘It was like, in his eyes, there was one way of doing things—his way, or no way—and if someone disagreed with him, instead of accepting that and welcoming a different perspective, he’d completely shut them down and argue his point until he’d railroaded them into submission.’
‘Charming,’ Jinx interjected. ‘Dude should run for office; sounds like a Piltovan politician.’
‘Yep,’ Lux giggled.
She had the sweetest fucking laugh.
‘How long were you with him?’ Jinx pried further. ‘And what possessed you, exactly?’
‘Nearly two years,’ Lux lamented. Snickered at the second question. ‘My current theory on the possession front would have to be Pazuzu.’
‘…huh?’
‘The demon from The Exorcist.’
Lux grinned, and Jinx kicked herself for not recognising the name. Pretty damn cool that blondie knew it, though. That caught her off guard. She’d have to screw her horror brain on around Lux in future, just in case.
‘My brother Garen forced me to watch it as a kid, fully knowing I’d think it was real,’ Lux explained. ‘Have you not seen it? You have all those horror posters back in the dorm; I just assumed you’d get the reference.’
‘Duh, it’s The Exorcist, of course I’ve seen it,’ Jinx insisted, her ego a tad bruised. ‘I even have a t-shirt of it buried in my closet somewhere.’
‘Ah, of course you do,’ Lux jibed. ‘You and your never-ending clothes pit… how many of those have you even worn in the past year?’
‘Pfft, like you’re one to talk,’ Jinx retaliated with a menacing chuckle. ‘Were any of the clothes you own manufactured within the last fifty years?’
‘Shut up…’ Lux tried to play the insult off with a laugh, but her voice wobbled, and her eyes lost some of their shine.
‘Fuck,’ Jinx grimaced. ‘Gods, I’m such a fucking idiot. I’m sorry! You dress so cute; I don’t even know why I said that. I—’
Out of nowhere, Lux lay a hand on Jinx’s outstretched thigh and gave her a reassuring squeeze, touching her skin through the rips in her jeans.
She stared at Lux in consternation, head empty, mouth agape. Any attempt at reading blondie’s expression was scuppered by the burning heat of hand on flesh, stroking in circles, tickling the soft skin around her kneecap.
What did it mean? What was Lux trying to say, or do? What was her angle?
They sat like that for a while. Side by side, bumping shoulders, Lux’s hand in Jinx’s lap…
Jinx couldn’t tell how much time had passed. Lux’s touch felt too good. Way too good. Ten minutes or ten seconds felt the same under the spell of her soft, lingering fingers.
‘It’s okay,’ Lux said, after gods knew how long. ‘I’m not exactly the most stylish person on campus. You can say it.’
‘No, that’s…’ Jinx shook her head and instinctively found Lux’s hand, lifted it from where it rested on her leg and laced their fingers together.
There they were, holding hands again. It felt like the most natural thing in the world, and the bashful smile gracing Lux’s face seemed to say she agreed.
‘That’s not true, blondie,’ Jinx squeezed Lux’s hand. ‘Everyone has their own style, right? Yours is just… you.’
‘Except it isn’t,’ Lux scoffed, and gazed down at their conjoined digits. Her thumb caressed Jinx’s knuckles, just like at Jericho’s. ‘Honestly, the only thing I’ve ever worn that’s really felt like me is that t-shirt—’ She gave a forlorn nod towards Jinx’s top ‘—and it’s not even mine. How pathetic is that?’
Pathetic!? There was nothing cooler! The t-shirt really fucking meant something! Lux really fucking cared! Holy fucking shit!
Jinx flashed Lux a maniacal grin and broke away from her grip.
‘What’re you doing!?’ Lux giggled, as Jinx sat up on her knees, quickly pulled the t-shirt off and threw it into her lap. ‘Jinx, it’s freezing and you’re now half naked!’
‘So?’ She wrapped her arms around her exposed torso and looked Lux up and down with a sly smirk. ‘Top exchange.’
‘What!?’
‘Take it off, blondie!’ She commanded, holding back the urge to chatter her teeth.
Aptly concerned for Jinx’s welfare, Lux shook off her coat and stripped away the lilac chenille jumper she’d worn beneath it, revealing a black vest top clinging to her breasts and stomach.
Even in the dark, Lux shone. She was so, so gorgeous. Jinx lilted on her knees, staring shamelessly. All the things she could do to that perfect body…
‘Here—’ Lux tossed the jumper for Jinx to catch. It landed on the grass as she donned the precious t-shirt and sunk back into the warmth of her coat.
Trance broken, Jinx finally looked away and tugged the jumper over her head. It hung off her, not nearly as flattering as it was on the princess, but Jinx could rock it out. An oversized jumper was always a good look.
The crucial fact? It was Lux’s jumper. It was soft and warm from her body heat, with sweet perfume clinging to every fibre. Each breath of blondie’s scent rushed straight to Jinx’s head, down to her throbbing core.
Jinx grinned wide and bounced to her feet, too giddy to contain herself.
‘Get up, get up, get up!’ Jumping up and down on the spot, she giggled as she held out her hands for blondie to hold onto.
‘Are you still cold? You’re shaking.’ Lux pouted, understandably worried, as Jinx helped her to her feet.
‘Fuck the cold,’ she beamed. ‘Let’s go somewhere! Anywhere! You choose!’
‘Home…?’
‘Ugh,’ she groaned, crestfallen. ‘Boring!’
‘Maybe next time?’ Lux proposed. ‘I kinda need to psych myself up for going out again after all this.’
Jinx nodded her approval. So, blondie wanted there to be a next time…
Lux parted their hands, brushed herself down and began buttoning up her coat. Enraptured, Jinx hardly realised she was helping until her fingers weaved the final, chunky wooden button through its slot in the fabric.
Jinx pulled away and folded her arms over her chest. Chewed on her thumb a little. Resisted the urge to keep touching.
‘Thanks,’ Lux smiled. ‘Those buttons are always super fiddly, so…’
‘Sure. Yeah. Of course.’
‘Jinx?’
‘Yeah, princess?’
‘Um…’ Lux looked to her feet, sunk her hands into her coat pockets. ‘Why’d you just… give me your t-shirt like that?’
The question was so earnest and raw. Jinx melted.
‘Why wouldn’t I?’
She inched closer.
‘I mean, it’s yours, are you sure?’ Lux rambled, barely making eye contact. ‘You look way better in it, too. Like… way better… which, okay, kind of goes without saying because you’re you; you’d look incredible in literally anything. Seriously,’ she let out a flustered giggle, ‘you even make that gods awful jumper look good! I mean—’
Fuck. It. All. To. Hell.
Before Lux could get another stupid, adorable, self-deprecating word out, Jinx made the final step into her personal space. One hand landed on her waist, while the other tenderly held her cheek. Lips millimetres from colliding, she hesitated. Breathed in more of that sweet perfume.
Lux trembled. Her cheeks burned hotter than ever, as her throat bobbed up and down in anticipation. Her hands fell to Jinx’s hips and pulled her even closer, pressed their bodies together.
Jinx pulled back a little. Focused on Lux’s wet lips, those grey-blue eyes almost black with lust. Her heart hammered against her chest, and she sensed blondie’s was doing the same.
‘Can I…?’
Lux nodded, her expression a mix of exhilaration and terror. With a half-smile, Jinx stroked Lux’s cheek, and placed a delicate kiss on her mouth.
She wanted more. Wanted to devour every inch of that beautiful girl right then and there. But she couldn’t lose herself with Lux, not yet. It wasn’t like kissing Ekko, where things could escalate as quickly or as slowly as they wanted. Kissing Lux was new, and it called for restraint. Patience. That it was happening at all was astounding enough. She had to pace herself. If she could.
Her touch gravitated to the sensitive skin around Lux’s jaw, behind her ear, her neck. Lux gulped, and Jinx felt it.
‘Jinx,’ Lux spoke in a jagged breath. ‘What about Ekko? Won’t he mind if we—’
Gods, she was so fucking cute.
Jinx shook her head and shushed Lux’s worries with another kiss, deeper than the first. Reached for her hands to grip onto. Fingers intertwined, Jinx lurched forwards, sending Lux stumbling into the robust tree trunk behind her. Her back hit the bark, and she laughed into Jinx’s mouth, leading Jinx to slip in her tongue. With a surprised moan, Lux responded in kind.
Fuck.
Right.
Patience.
Restraint…
Their fingers untangled and found new places to roam, as their kisses fell into a natural rhythm. Lux allowed Jinx to assert her dominance. Met her probing tongue with light licks, soft caresses. She gasped and groaned with her arms around Jinx’s shoulders, as Jinx held her against the tree with force, hands all over her waist and lower back, under her coat but not under her clothes. Not yet.
Jinx broke away from Lux’s mouth, planting kisses along her throat. Lux yelped at the switch up and her hands dropped back to Jinx’s hip bones, explored the bare skin beneath the borrowed chenille, scratched up and down Jinx’s back.
Fuckkkk.
Okay. That was that.
Restraint was overrated, anyway.
With vigour, Jinx thrust her knee into Lux’s crotch. The princess squirmed beneath her and bucked her hips, pulled Jinx’s lips back to hers. Lux’s kisses grew in urgency as she continued grinding on Jinx’s knee, hotter than a furnace, eyes closed, lost in pleasure.
Oh, gods. Oh, fuck. Oh, fuck, fuck, fuck.
In those heightened moments, something clicked. Jinx couldn’t say what. Maybe it was Lux’s intensity. How Lux wanted her. Needed her. Maybe it was the cloying passion frying her nerves, her bones, her brain. Whatever it was, it was suddenly too much.
Too much, too much, too much.
Breathless and quivering, Jinx staggered a meter or so away from the tree. Away from Lux.
What the fuck had they done? They’d gotten too close. Much too close. She’d lost control. She was supposed to have patience. Restraint. Fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck, fuck.
With her arms wrapped tight around her chest, Jinx kept her eyes on her feet. Balanced on her ankles. Hummed a comforting tune under her breath, one of her and Ekko’s favourite songs.
‘Jinx?’ Lux crept forward, about to bridge the new, extremely necessary gap between them.
‘Could you not!?’ Jinx urged, stepping further back. Great, more yelling. ‘I’m sorry, I just, um… I’m sorry!’
With that, Jinx fled into the night, leaving Lux in free fall. She ran, and ran, and ran, and didn’t stop until she reached the comfort of Ekko’s faded green door.
 Lux
Guided by the campus lamplight and her crumpled map, Lux stumbled back to the dorm room in the dark. With each step, it grew harder to focus on the path. Her thoughts drowned in Jinx, her core vibrating in the glow of Jinx’s urgent, heavy kisses. Heart torn by all the pain and uncertainty that followed.
What did it all mean? Their conversation leading up to their tryst was so strange, so disjointed. Why had Jinx asked about polyamory? Was that what she wanted between them? How did Ekko factor in? How did arrangements like that work? And why…
Why did Jinx leave like that?
What did Lux do wrong?
She quickened her pace, taking multiple wrong turns as she tried to get her bearings. But she was lost.
Irretrievably lost.
 Ekko
Ekko came home to Jinx curled up on his couch, wearing a jumper that wasn’t hers, and he knew his fears had come true. She’d barely messaged him since he’d given her Lux’s number. He hoped they were hanging out, having a good time while he was working, but that clearly wasn’t the case. Something, somehow, had gone wrong, and Jinx had gotten hurt. Deeply hurt.
They had a code for these things. She hadn’t broken into his place in months; usually rode her pain out in private like a sick cat. Her collapsing at his place with no warning meant only one thing: she wouldn’t have felt safe alone.
Leaving his takeaway dinner from Jericho’s on his kitchen counter, he knelt at Jinx’s side. She didn’t smile or look at him, didn’t even flinch, as he lay a hand on her cheek. It was damp with recent tears.
The cold, bitter drip of anger and betrayal lodged at the back of his throat. He ignored it as best he could; he didn’t know the facts. Until Jinx was ready to tell him what happened, he needed to remain calm. Rational. Supportive.
He kissed her forehead and returned to the kitchen, took out two plates from the cupboard instead of one, and dished up the food.

Chapter 5: The Queens' Ball
When they returned to the castle, Jinx dismounted first, reaching up to help Lux. She gripped Lux's waist, guiding her slowly down, her eyes flickering to Lux's skirts and her mouth twisting just slightly.
Feeling uncertain, Lux surveyed herself, only to find that her skirts were in disarray, still paint-stained and drying, and now reeking of Jabberwocky smoke. Jinx suggested they take a proper bath rather than simply splashing in a garden fountain.
The Queen's private bath was sunken, flush with the stone floor, and heart-shaped of course. Lix dipped in her toes to find the water hot but not scalding, and a delicious aroma of herbs filled the room along with clouds of steam.
Lux and Jinx undressed, facing away from each other. While she was accustomed to being naked around the housemaids, Lux had known them all since she was an infant: Jinx was still a stranger. But as Lux descended into the tub, her insecurity melted away with the stress. She rested her head and arms on the edge of the tub, humming in contentment.
Jinx entered after her. Lux couldn't help but marvel at the Queen's naked form. Beneath all that fabric, she was thin and spindly, like a spider. Her pale limbs were decorated: the blue cloud tattoos on her shoulder drifted down her ribs and torso, ending just above her hip.
She seemed so fragile, contrasting the wild activities of the day. Surely this tiny person wasn't the same one that had scaled closet walls, bolted through castle corridors, ridden the Jabberwocky.
Jinx caught Lux staring, her nose twisting in defense, but Lux heard herself say, "You're so lovely."
Neither of them expected the words, and after a tense silence, Jinx muttered, "You too."
After that, the silence wasn't so tense. In fact, they both enjoyed it, leaning their heads back, letting the water cleanse.
Two long bathrobes appeared for them: white for Lux, black for Jinx. Lux was rather hesitant to leave the heat of the bath, but found that the stone floor was warm to the touch.
Together, they returned to the tower closet. Once again, Jinx climbed the cabinets, rummaging through materials and calling down, asked if there was anything particular she would like to wear.
Lux considered: after a long day (days? a week?) of activities, she was rather in the mood to slow down. Jinx had told her before that she could have anything she wanted: what other fantasies could she procure? What other dreams did she want to come true?
She dug deep inside of herself, searching for the deepest and most shallow of her desires. Lux fought back a blush, squaring her shoulders as she asked, "Do you have anything... pretty?"
Clinging to the wall above, Jinx's pink eyes glittered. She hoisted herself higher, tugging at various skirts and dresses. "Pretty how?" she called down.
"Um..." Feeling rather silly, Lux offered, "Silk, perhaps?"
A few options floated down in front of her. Lux held a few up to herself in the heart-shaped mirror, considering each. "Oh," she gasped at one.
Jinx leapt from the cabinets, again landing on all fours like a cat in front of her. "You like that one?"
"It's gorgeous," Lux breathed, clinging the neckline to her chest as she twirled. "I bet it would be lovely to dance in." She paused. "I don't suppose you have a ballroom?"
She could see Jinx's expression in the mirror, the smile slowly spreading across her face, the adoration gleaming in her eyes. "I can make one."
Lux frowned at her. "Oh, you don't have to go through all that trouble just for-"
"Lux." It was the first time she had said her name, and the tone of her voice sent chills down Lux's spine. Jinx watched her intently, piercing her with those eyes. "Anything you want. It's yours."
Lux's mouth had gone dry. She suddenly felt very warm. That deep part of her, the desire she had spent her entire life squashing down and molded into something acceptable, now roiled and burned in the center of her like a hot sea.
Jinx stalked towards her, slowly. She reached out to Lux, fingers trembling ever so slightly, and rested a hand on Lux's cheek.
Lux melted into the touch. She thought any more heat would be unbearable, that surely she would burn. But instead, it satisfied her, made her yearn for more.
Jinx studied her face, the fleeting expressions of pleasure and contentment. Her eyes drifted down and found Lux's lips, and she rolled her jaw, breath hissing out as she did so.
Then her fingers were gone. Jinx had backed away, clearing her throat. "I'll get a ballroom set up," she said quickly. She snapped her fingers and a figure appeared at the door. "The frog-maids will help you get ready."

Lux had been more than a bit apprehensive about the frog-maids: she feared their fingers might be too slippery or mucus-covered to aid her in any way. But her doubts were assuaged as they combed her hair, helped her pick out shoes and brought jewelry for her to select.
While her housemaids at Castle Crownguard had always ignored her wishes in favor of her mother's, the frog-maids were constantly seeking her approval. Every decision was hers to make, every bit of her visage in her own control. Lux found herself sitting up straighter, making bolder choices, even requesting a bit of wine to sip on as they worked.
She tried not to be too haughty, though, and asked the frog-maids about their lives. It was clear very quickly that they had never been humans, as their answers were short and clipped and spoke mostly of mud and tadpoles and insect dinners. She studied their faces, trying to glean any hidden faces as she had with Caitlyn's company, but even after a full minute of staring, the maids remained unchanged. Lux suspected that if they were from the real world, they must have been frogs there, too.
As the frog-maids worked, Lux considered the unchanging sunlight that streamed from the windows. She had attended many balls in her time, and none had ever taken place during the daytime. The light would rather detract from the magic of the evening, she thought. Then again, Jinx had been so against nighttime. Lux had an idea then, and asked one of the frog-maids to send a message to the Queen.
When Lux was finished, she admired herself in the mirror, running her hands down the fabric. This would be the most comfortable ball she had ever attended.
But before the frog-maids could guide her from the room, a fish-footman swept in. "Wait!" His fins held a little velvet pillow, with a diadem upon it. "My lady," he gurgled, bowing. "The Queen of Hearts has requested you wear this."
Lux lifted the diadem, examining the diamond-shaped stones inlaid in silver. "It's beautiful. Thank you."
She was led down the halls of the castle, seeing none of the guests but hearing their voices mingling with a string quartet, louder and louder as she approached a massive magenta curtain.
Trumpets interrupted the party-goers, followed by an announcement. "Presenting her ladyship, the Queen of Diamonds!"
Before Lux could process the introduction, the curtain drew back.
It was incredible to think that Jinx had created this entire room in a matter of hours. She noticed first that Jinx had honored her request to have the windows tinted, the stained glass designs of their hearts, roses and diamonds as well all darkened to keep out the harsh daylight. Dramatic brass-wrought chandeliers hung from the ceiling, casting the room in a dreamy candlelight.
There was a far larger crowd than Lux was expecting. The nobles she had seen in the halls were scattered, few and far between, but gathered together they made up an army of card-suit fabrics and ornate, feathered masks. She hesitated at the top of the stairs, feeling rather under-dressed now.
The dress Lux had chosen would have been entirely indecent if she were to wear it to a ball in the world above. For one thing, she wore no tights or petticoat beneath, letting the white silk fabric drape down her hips and sway freely around her legs. There was no corset to keep it in place around her middle, just the gravity of the dress itself clinging to her body.
And yet, all those traits could have been forgiven, perhaps, were it not for the neckline. In fact, calling it a neckline was hardly fair: a chestline, perhaps, as the top of the dress rested neatly above her breasts. The sleeves hung off her shoulders, met by long, sheer fingerless gloves.
She wore diamond earrings: small ones, as her hair hung in loose waves down her back, contained only by the diadem on her brow. But there was no necklace, leaving her throat and breastbone free and unbound.
In the mirror, the ensemble made her feel whole, like it had been made for her. But now, above all those glassy eyes, uncertainty crept into her mind.
Until she saw Jinx.
The Queen of Hearts stepped forward, carving a path through the nobles like a knife through butter. Her dress now was more grandiose than her previous one: gone was the chemise beneath her black corset, leaving her shoulders bare, her gloves creeping up her arms and no longer fingerless.
The skirt, or perhaps skirts, was layers and layers of fabric: pink tulle and purple crinoline and black ruffles underneath, all piled on top of each other to create a mass that seemed to breathe with every step forward. And to top it all off, of course, was Jinx's crown, which had grown slightly larger to rest comfortably on her head.
As Jinx approached the base of the stairs, so did Lux, descending to meet her. Jinx took her hand, slowly crushing her lips against Lux's knuckles, eyes burning up at her.
Lux grinned shyly down at her, offering a small bow. "My queen."
"My queen." It was not a greeting, but a claim.
Lux felt her face flush, and cleared her throat. "Should we, um... dance?"
Jinx nodded, guiding her to the checkerboard dance-floor. They stood together in the middle of the crowd, all the empty eyes of the court watching.
There was silence for a long moment. Jinx shifted, emotions darting across her face like a school of fish, difficult to trap or recognize.
Lux whispered, "Everything alright?"
"I... I don't know how. To dance."
Lux gawked at her. "What? But you're so graceful."
Jinx's eyes widened just slightly, her tensed shoulders dropping. "You- you think I'm graceful?"
Had it not been for the crowd, Lux would have laughed: brightly, not in a condescending way. Instead, she reached for her, taking her slender fingers in her own. "Here, we'll start slow." Without thinking, she looked up, made eye contact with the frog- and fish-musicians, who began to play the exact melody she was thinking of.
Jinx's eyes flickered to the musicians, then back to Lux. "How did you..."
Lux paused. "I... I don't know. I just thought of..." She cleared her throat. It didn't seem important right now. "Since it's your first time, I'll lead." Lux guided one of Jinx's hands out, resting her other on her shoulder. Lux placed her own hand on Jinx's slim waist, pulling her closer.
They were so close. No longer did Jinx smell of berries or flour. She smelled of a musky perfume, something deep and intoxicating.
"We'll start easy," Lux managed, forcing her way through her nerves. "When I step forward with my right foot, you step back with your left. You hear how the song goes? One, two, three, one, two, three?"
"Yeah."
"We step on one, then wait two three, then step back on the next one. Got it?"
It was simple enough that they had it down within seconds. Lux then instructed her on a basic box step, which took a little bit of practice, some tripping, but once Jinx loosened up a bit, they managed to find the rhythm.
With each measure, their steps grew more confident. Lux reveled in the lightness of Jinx's fingers, the warmth of her waist. Lux guided her in a spin, the layered skirts twirling as she did so, and when she returned, she lingered in Lux's arms, her back pressed against her.
Lux's fingers dug into her waist, wanting to keep her there. She wanted to press her lips to the cloud tattoos drifting along that shoulder. She wanted to remove the glove and feel the heat of her calloused fingers. And when Jinx looked up, met her eyes, she saw that her want was matched.
But something about the closeness to the flame scared Lux, and she gently spun Jinx out once more. This time when Jinx returned, facing her once more, she was the one who leaned in closer to Lux. The gloved fingers had left Lux's shoulder, trailed up to find the back of her neck, thumb brushing against the crook of her jaw.
Still they danced, moved together fluidly. Lux knew she had danced before, in a previous life, the details of which she pushed further and further away. But never had she danced like this, as an excuse to pull someone close, to drown in their fire.
The tempo slowed, more and more, until the song ended all together. Lux and Jinx stood entwined, their breath the only sound in the silence. Jinx leaned in, brushing her nose against Lux's like a question.
Lux wanted to answer. But for whatever reason, her eye caught movement at the edge of the dance-floor. Sevika the Knave was in the shadows, scowling over a goblet of wine. It was then that Lux realized with some horror that the entire court was still watching them.
She let go. When she did, Jinx's crestfallen expression nearly broke her heart. In a crude apology, Lux took her hands again. "I'm sorry, my queen, it's just..." She glanced at the crowd.
Jinx nodded decisively, raising one gloved hand in preparation of snapping her fingers. "I'll make them disappear."
"No!" Even though the court members weren't real, probably, Lux would rather not chance it. "No, um... Might we go on the balcony?" she asked, still breathless from the dancing and absolutely nothing else. "I'd rather like some fresh air."
The door opened to a deluge of light, the two queens blinking back against the assault, adjusting from the dim candlelight of the ballroom. Lux leaned on the stone railing, closing her eyes. Still that same perfect temperature, not even a breeze to stir it.
The daylight did bring clarity to the moment, but Lux found herself resenting it. She wanted so badly to return to that darkness, to the dream. Now she felt forced to wake up.
Lux sighed.
"What is it?" asked Jinx.
"Well I just..." Her eyes flickered to Jinx, trying to read her, proceeding with caution. "I do terribly miss the sunset."
Jinx froze. "I can't, Lux. I can't make it night. The dark... it's full of terrible things."
"But what about all the beautiful things?" Lux asked. "The constellations, the changing of the moon. The magic, the mystery, knowing that the sun will rise tomorrow."
But Jinx was still, staring at the ground. "If it's nighttime, I'll fall asleep. And if I fall asleep, I'll have nightmares."
Lux rested her fingers on Jinx's hand, guiding her to the balcony. "I understand. I used to have terrible nightmares, you know." She decided to omit exactly who the nightmares were about. "But if you never sleep, you miss out on all the wonderful dreams you might have."
Jinx finally met her eyes. "You really want the sunset?"
"Please," Lux squeezed her fingers. "You said I could have anything I wanted. Please, for me."
Jinx took a deep breath, and the shadows changed. Lux looked to see the sun, finally shifting from it's everlasting place in the blue sky. It sank slowly, inching towards the earth, catching the white puffy clouds and making them a dazzling orange and pink.
"Oh!" Lux gasped in delight.
After a long moment of silent appreciation, Jinx murmured, "I forgot. How beautiful."
Lux glanced to see that Jinx was looking at her, not the sunset. She smiled sweetly and tucked a lock of wild blonde hair behind one ear.
The sun crept towards the horizon. Lux waited and waited, but realized that the sun was no longer moving, frozen in place. She saw that Jinx had also frozen, her pink eyes wide and fearful, the sunset reflected perfectly in them.
Lux traced her fingers over Jinx's knuckles, resting her other hand on Jinx's back. "Jinx," she murmured. "It's okay. There's nothing to fear. I'll protect you."
Jinx looked to her, nodding slowly. The sun moved again, dipped until it was nothing more than a distant lake of molten lava, and then it was gone. Jinx released a gasp, as if she had been holding her breath.
"Look!" Lux said. The sky changed from a rich orange to a muted lavender, the clouds darkening to cornflower blue. The darkness came slowly, twilight taking it's time.
Lux realized she was holding onto Jinx's hand far too tightly, and turned to apologize only to see that Jinx was staring intently at her. The corner of Jinx's plum-colored lips quirked up in a smirk, though there was a nervous energy to her. Lux's own pulse had started to quicken, and she found herself unable to look away from Jinx's enchanting face.
She must be a fae queen, Lux told herself. Some trickster goddess who had ensnared Lux, given her whatever she wanted. There would be some price to pay for the magic, Lux had no doubt. Perhaps, if she followed through with this, Lux would never be permitted to leave, game or not.
But as Lux drifted closer, so close that their noses were brushing just slightly, she found herself caring less and less. No one had ever put her first, made her wants and desires a priority, allowed her to do whatever she wanted without consequence. And she was grateful. She wanted to thank her queen, even if it meant sealing her own fate.
Impatient, Jinx leaned forward and closed the gap between their lips. She tasted sweet like pastries and earthy like tea. There was a gentle intensity to her kiss, a hunger.
Lux had only ever kissed... no, she didn't want to think of him right now. The only reason the memory returned at all was because she remembered that kiss, how it had been a quick, lusterless thing. He seemed overjoyed, but Lux had been altogether unfeeling about the business. In fact, that's what it had felt like to her, just business.
But this, this was heat. Jinx's kiss was one of pleasure, of a deep need. Free from all of it, Lux explored the last place she had never been permitted to before.
Jinx's hands found Lux's waist, seizing her and pulling her in. Lux had never thought she would like to be grabbed that way, to be handled like a possession. But something about Jinx's possessiveness drove her wild, made her feel wanted and desired, not for her name or her money but because she was her own being. The Queen's guest, arguably the only creature in Underland that could have more power than her.
Lux rested one hand on Jinx's shoulder, the other caressing her jaw, tucking behind her ear and finding a home on the back of her neck.
When Lux finally pulled away, she was certain that her own lips would be as purple as Jinx's, bruised like ripe fruit. They rested their foreheads together, catching their breath. Lux realized that during the kiss, the world had grown dark, the stars beginning to twinkle in their grand mosaic, the crescent moon rising.
"Would you like to stargaze?" Lux asked.
Jinx considered her. "I'll ask the frog-men to bring out some blankets."
"Actually..." Lux had an idea, looking out over the moonlit treetops.
❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢
They took the two unicorns this time: Jinx's was black, disappearing into the dark while Lux's glowed white in the moonlight. They galloped through the woods, and Lux recalled her fantasy from... well, it didn't matter when or where it originated. The important thing is that her fantasy was fulfilled, that she had finally become the unicorn-riding maiden she was meant to be. Yes, this was always what was meant for her.
Instead of following the signs above the forest path, the two followed their hearts through the woods, seeking nothing in particular. Jinx would leap from her unicorn and Lux would join her, the two snogging against a tree or large mossy rock. They found a waterfall and pool below, and threw off their dresses to kiss, naked, in the glowing water.
They explored each other's bodies, hands wandering along bare ribs and hips, tracing down spines. Fingers pressed and dipped, testing, seeing just how much pressure to apply in different places, how to elicit the perfect gasp or shudder.
Jinx's fingers were the first to find that center, to cross that impossible boundary that had never been crossed before. Her hand was clumsy, trembling, but the sensation of her curious fingers unraveled Lux, who clutched Jinx's bony shoulders and rolled her head back. Spurred by the reaction, Jinx pressed her fingers inside her, sinking into her warmth, causing Lux to release a sinful moan. Jinx hissed in delight and ground her palm against Lux, finding a rhythm with her fingers.
The heat became nearly unbearable. Lux felt as though she was about to be undone, melt against Jinx and dissolve into nothing. This new feeling terrified her, and yet, she wanted it, more than anything. She wanted Jinx to desecrate her, to claim her, to become another one of her glittering possessions in that heart-rendered palace.
All the while Jinx just watched her, intent and focused, teasing each hitched breath, every squirm.
The wave crashed on Lux all at once, sending her pulse racing, her blood boiling. She released a cry and Jinx stopped, withdrew her hand like she had burned it.
"Sorry!" Jinx said, trying to give her space. "Did I hurt you?"
Lux caught her ragged breath, her mouth quirking up at the side as she gazed, doe-eyed and satisfied, at her queen. "That was... amazing."
Jinx's shoulders dipped in relief. "Oh good, I-" But her sentence hitched into a high keen as Lux's hand found her own center.
"And now," Lux breathed against Jinx's neck, "It's your turn, my queen."
❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢
After several more crashing waves, the queens were finally satisfied. They dressed and found the unicorns, galloping through the woods once more. At one point, Lux reached up just as a tree branch appeared, and climbed from her unicorn's back to disappear into the foliage. She led Jinx with her laughter, climbing and climbing, not caring when her dress tore or her hair was tugged in the leaves. Lux breached the treetop and lost her breath when she saw the sky.
A galaxy spread out above, distant purple nebulas entwining millions and millions of stars, like jewels sewn into a illustrious fabric. Jinx joined her, also breathless at the sight, and the two stood in silence for a long moment.
Lux glanced to their left and saw a bird's nest, abandoned long ago, and whispered to Jinx. Together they downed a small vial and shrank, just tall enough to fit perfectly inside the nest. Jinx snapped her fingers and there were blankets and pillows surrounding them, a pad of softness where they could watch the stars in comfort.
After what must have been a decent half hour, Lux sighed happily. "You know, I haven't had this much fun in... well, ever, to be honest."
Jinx rolled over to face her, smile illuminated by the starlight. "I find that hard to believe."
"Really? Why?"
"Well, you're so fun. You're confident and creative, you ask so many questions and you have so many ideas about what we can do." Jinx snuggled into her shoulder. "I bet you've had all kinds of adventures."
The memories that Lux had pushed away all returned with a vengeance, seizing Lux with sorrow. She felt like a fruit that had been picked too early and never given the chance to ripen.
Lux told Jinx everything. It all came spilling out, all her perfect childhood and her straightened spine, never speaking out, always following the rules, hoping that one day it would be worth it, that one day she would find someone who allowed her to cut loose and rise to her full potential. But then she spoke of Ezreal, the betrayal sitting like a rock in her chest and choking her words: she had never loved him, she admitted, but she would much rather tolerate a lifetime of friendship and adventure than true love and imprisonment.
She spoke of her mother who always pricked and prodded her into submission, who demanded perfection and obedience but never even thought to ask Lux what she might want. She talked of Garen, who in childhood had always encouraged her fantasies, but had become hardened in adulthood by the real world. Garen, who had written fewer and fewer letters, and when he did, they were always lecturing or questioning when she would be married and have children, when she would take her place in the world lest she end up a spinster.
All these words together formed a shape, a domed, gilded cage that Lux had never felt able to escape from.
Jinx listened, never interrupting her or asking questions, just listened and heard her out, wiped away the occasional tear with her thumb.
When Lux finished, she lay back, spent, weeping silently. Jinx pulled her into an embrace, not minding the wet tears on her shoulder. "Stay with me," Jinx said simply.
"What?"
"Stay here, in Underland, with me, and you'll never have to go back." She pulled back so Lux could see the sincerity in her face. "Forget about them, all of them. Forget about marriage and children and rules. Stay with me and rule by my side."
Lux smiled through her tears. "As the Queen of Diamonds?"
"Yes!" Jinx kissed her nose. "My diamond, my queen..."
It was a beautiful dream. Somewhere deep down, Lux thought she might have to wake up, but she squashed the feeling. She was tired of being everyone else's prop, someone's future wife and child-bearer. She wanted that power, hungered for it the way she hungered for her queen.
They kissed again, a long, sweet kiss. As they broke apart, Lux felt the weight of exhaustion for the first time since arriving. The night itself seemed to have dimmed, as if all the world were falling asleep.
Fatigue wore on Jinx's features, as well. Lux wondered just how long it had been since she'd slept. But there was still worry in her face, and she kept trying to shake away the exhaustion.
"Jinx," whispered Lux. "If you have a nightmare, you can always wake up."
Jinx considered her for a long moment. "Can you... let me fall asleep first?"
"Of course," Lux said and kissed her knuckles. "I'll sing you a lullaby, would that help?"
Jinx smiled, the lucidity already fading from her face.
"Twinkle, twinkle, little bat How I wonder what you're at Up above the world you fly, Like a teatray in the sky..."

FANFIC APPRECIATION MEME
"FANFIC APPRECIATION MEME
Post recommendations for your ten favourite fanfics and tag the authors if possible. Tell us what you like about their work.
Tag five people of your choice to do the meme too."
I was tagged by both @heroinejinx and @ghostofyaz
Since I like so many ships I’m going to separate them by ship and do a few for each one (ending up with 12 fics total), tagging the authors mentioned if I can find their Tumblr (If anyone knows the ones I couldn’t find, lemme know)
Warning: a large portion of these are NSFW and general TWs on the appropriate ones
LIGHTCANNON
- A Tasty Progress Day by @booking-and-blogging This fic is part of Elfen’s Growth not Pain series, and I unfortunately have not had the chance to read the other fics in the series, however you should also read Non Linear Growth, as this fic is part of that story. This is a great piece of smut that contains a lot of good humor and a very unique take on Lux that I greatly enjoy. Easily my favorite Lightcannon piece I’ve read. The prose is wonderful, the emotions are real, give this fic and it’s predecessors a read.
- The Saga of Lightcannon by @cannibalelf This fic by Cannibal is a monster of a wonderful AU, I remember the day on the Lightcannon discord when the idea for a Norse mythology AU was proposed, and Cannibal delivered it guns blazing. The prose is beautiful, the action is thrilling, this interesting take on Lightcannon is a must read if you want to see Jinx beat the shit out of some monsters with a big ol Axe while Valkyrie Lux watches her very gayly. (TW for extreme violence)
MOICY
- Biological Imperative by @redundantharpoons I believe that this piece is THE quintessential Moicy work. It follows a slight AU that allows Moira and Angela to interact without world ending dangerous and being on opposite sides, and features a wonderful story exploring the way these two interact, and how the prepare to raise a child together. A fantastic work with some lovely sex scenes that made me cry more than once. (TW for many upsetting things in general)
- Ethical Healing by @idle-lark Lark just gets Moira as a character I think, and even though this fic is from the perspective of Angela, it does a wonderful job exploring her and the gray morality that comes with her. Lark’s dialogue is to die for, and watching Angela and Moira slowly struggle with their mutual attraction and what their relationship would mean for their work is wonderful, I’m constantly gripping my chair waiting for the next chapter. Also Moira has a dog named Darwin, and I would die for him.
GRIDDLEHARK
- sting of a wasp by @griddleshark and @thalergetic I’m a sucker for modern AU’s and this fic is probably one of the best in terms of Griddlehark. Gideon and Harrow are very believable characters, they struggle with communication despite their intense want for each other, and the way this fic is written allows you to really experience that. It’s hot, it’s fun, it has jealous and stone butch Gideon and lamp shopping and I love it.
-  Holy Cross, Alaska by softieghost This series is another interesting look at Modern AU Griddlehark, but with the fun kick of putting the two together in a cabin for three months and seeing what happens, and then exploring the depths of their new kinship afterwards in a cross country road trip. The first fic is very emotionally impactful, and does a good job of depicting a character who’s experiencing a psychotic break, as well how Gideon does her best to support Harrow and get her the help she needs. (TW for many upsetting things in general)
CAMPAL
- this time we're done for by @darlingofdots This fic changed my brain chemistry 8 times over, the AU takes Camilla and Palamedes and puts them in the Cohort together as Captain and Physician, and lets the inherent eroticism of nursing someone’s wounds do the rest. Seriously this is some of the best sexual tension I’ve ever read, the little flirts the two give each other while Camilla is fucking bleeding out is fantastic, and then navigating their relationship after finally coming together is utterly stunning. PLEASE read this fic. (TW for extreme violence)
- insatiable is what she is by @palamedes-sextus Honestly it was kind of hard to choose from Necropal’s wonderful selection of works, but I believe this one is my favorite. It’s a post Nona AU where Cam and Pal finally get a bit of domestic bliss, enjoy it, and the have wonderful sex. The smut is lovely, the feelings are very well written, the prose and dialogue are lovely, go give this fic a read. And while you’re at it check out the rest of Necropal’s works.
SYLVAINA
- Last Resort by @sniperct Boy, this one is a fucking doozy. A political marriage AU for Jaina and Sylvanas that initially sets them as brutal enemies, and then explores how hatred and pain can blossom desire, which becomes a needy and strong love. It asks a lot of interesting and challenging questions regarding the ethics of undead in WOW, and how a relationship can change and grow overtime. I have not had the chance to read it’s sequel yet, but if the writing is anywhere near the same quality I’m sure sniperct did a wonderful job with it.
- Chainmaker by @calchexxis A lich queen Jaina AU that sets up a wonderful “Queen/Knight” aesthetic between Jaina and Sylvanas. This fic has an awesome plot with a lot of unique and fun side characters, wonderful fight scenes, great sex scenes, and a really interesting look again at Undead in wow. Cal’s prose is fantastic as is the case with all of their work, and you should certainly give this fic a read.
SHIARA
- Resolve by Talaraine Resolve is probably my favorite post destroy ending fic in the Mass Effect fandom. It’s a really cool delve into Shepard and Liara when they are apart from each other, as well as their relationship to other members of the ME cast. It has some great action scene’s a lot of plot and mystery, and a lot of gay yearning/pining. (TW for some upsetting things)
- Death and the Healing by @thewriterinthebatcave with art by @shipsnthenight another awesome post destroy ending fic that takes a slightly different take on Shepard and Liara. What I really love about this fic is how they explore Shepard not as a war hero or a savior or a soldier, but as a person who has been absolutely broken by the awful things they have seen. The fic previous in the series, Comatose With Common Sense, has my favorite character study of Shepard from any fic I’ve read. And all of the art included is lovely. (TW for many upsetting things, mind the author’s TWs as well)

i wanna try to get into LightCannon. Do you know any fics you can recommend, maybe AUs?
Okay but be warned, I am bad at selling fics to people:
Ill-Omen's Light - A Post-Season 1 Arcane Fic. Basically what if Lux becomes a part of Jinx's story in Arcane. I'd say it's pretty much an AU because the likelihood of Lux and Lightcannon in Arcane is unlikely. 😩It a great continuation of act 3 that throws in some new champs and Lightcannon so what's not to love?
I'm Wide Awake, It's Morning - College Au ft. good college student Lux and biker chick Jinx.
Burn Like Mad Kisses - Elden Ring Au with a tarnished Lux, I recommend Calchexxis in general bc they do some great lightcannon aus, especially their college ones.
Welcome to Demacia - A Canon Divergence au Homophobia TW, there are a lot of Lightcannon fics set in Piltover & Zaun so this one is interesting based on the fact we're in Demacia on Lux's turf so to speak. This is a meet-the-parents fic that deals with Homophobia in Lux's family but is also full of Lightcannon fluff, Jinx jinxing and some Demacia world-building and also a happy ending dw.
My Obsession Rides a Motorcycle Named Pow-Pow - High School Au with goody-two-shoes popular student Lux and bicker bad-girl Jinx. Also very smut-y. 👍
StarCall Log - Star Guardians. Set during the Burning Bright music video just after Jinx briefly leaves the team.
Hot Chocolate and Marshmallows - Star Guardians, not really any Star Guardian stuff in the fic to speak of though, it's mostly just cosy winter themed domestic fluff.
Do Not Go Gentle - Star Guardians fic with more Star Guardian stuff. Magical girl shenanigans and love confessions topped with childhood friends to lovers.

Baby, You Can Rule Alongside Me
by cupcaits

That's all bound to change when Vi waltzes into her life, intruding her circle of friends and suddenly showing up everyone. Caitlyn is determined to crack the mystery surrounding the elusive woman who's quickly becoming a heartthrob on campus (much to Caitlyn's dismay).

Lux groaned. Her head hurt as her eyes blinked open. She was somewhere dark. The last thing she remembered was an ambush. She was walking just outside of Piltover when it happened. A gang of bandits with armed magical technology. She'd seen it in Piltover but not used against her. She would definitely have to report this. If she could figure out where she was and get out of there.
As she sat up her eyes adjusted to her surroundings. It was a room lit with dimmed neon lights of all kind with tiny windows at the very top. It looked like a combination of a bedroom and some sort of workshop. It reeked of alpha pheromones.
"You're awake. Huh. I really thought you'd die for a second." Lux's eyes followed the voice to a table in a corner. It had all kinds of tools, blueprints, books and was covered with colorful scribbles. In the chair sat the source of the voice, and the scent if Lux had to guess. A girl, around her age by the looks of it, with long braided, blue hair and purple, slightly glowing eyes. The woman was dressed haphazardly, her outfit looking like it was made from whatever she could find, covered with grease from tinkering, her arm covered with blue cloud tattoos. She tilted her head and grinned, revealing her fangs, "Glad you're not dead. Bodies are a bit of a hassle. Not to mention the bad smell. I like your scent much better as it is."
The alpha jumped to her feet, slowly skipping towards Lux.
Lux quickly sat up, looking around the room for her staff, "Oh. Yeah you won't that here. Locked it up cause I didn't know what it did." The alpha said in a sing-song voice, "What's your name omega? I'm Jinx." The alpha, Jinx, squatted down to Lux's level, a smile on her face.
Lux narrowed her eyes. She had no idea who this woman was or how the hell she got here, why should she tell her anything.
Jinx sighed, "Did you know you're in heat?"
Lux's eyes widened. How could she be in heat? She took her... was supposed to take her suppressants. Back home. In Demacia. Instead she was gods know where, in the presence of an unmated alpha in rut. Lux looked around, arms wrapping around herself, looking for anything to use as a weapon if need be. Jinx's nose scrunched up and she shook her head.
"Relax, I'm not a savage you know. Oh but you do smell good. Even now." Jinx reached for her before she stopped herself, "I haven't had an omega in a long time." Jinx laughed, "Sneaky motherfuckers. They told me you were a gift you know. Bet they though you'd be a hell of a fun distraction. You know, I think I might kill them anyway. Cowards." Jinx spoke about it so calmly, like killing or not killing was like choosing what she was gonna wear for the day, "And what do I do with you?"
Jinx reached for her again. Lux tried to look away but she was grabbed by the chin and forced to look at Jinx in the eyes.
Jinx smiled like she was looking at the starry night sky, "You're really pretty. And you smell like... I don't know actually. Warmth. And..." Jinx leaned into Lux neck, breathing in her scent, which was accompanied with a low growl. One that send heat pooling down in Lux's belly, "Sunshine." She whispered, her words tickling Lux's neck.
"Lux." Jinx hummed contently.
"Lux. That's a pretty name. And you have a really pretty voice." Jinx pulled back, her eyes looking over Lux's body. For the first time Lux took notice of her own state of dress. Her armor was missing. This left her only in her shirt, tight pants, boots and underwear, "You didn't seem to know me. And they said you were on your way out of Piltover. Where are you from Sunshine?"
"Uh... Demacia. I was on my way back actually." Jinx didn't seem dangerous. Maybe she'll help her get back.
"Demacia." Jinx thought for a moment, "Ok. You'll stay here for a while. I'm not letting an omega in heat out and about. It ain't safe here." Jinx head snapped to her right shoulder, "Shut up Mylo. It's not like that. Yeah she's pretty and smells real good and in heat and..." Jinx's words drifted away as her head slowly turned to Lux, her purple eyes darker, pupils dilated, "Shit. Right."
Jinx shook her head. She sat up abruptly and walked around the room talking to... seemingly herself? Even though she said the names Mylo and Claggor a lot. She clapped her hands, the sound startling Lux.
"Ok I think I've got it. You can stay here, and I'll be right outside until this blows over yeah? I mean unless you wanna fuck this out, I'm down for that too." Jinx could help the grin that spread across her face, or the way her cock jumped at the thought of having the omega in front of her.
"You're giving me a choice?" Jinx quirked a brow at that.
"I'm a pyromaniac, not a monster. Sheesh what do you think alphas are? Not all of us think with our dicks." Jinx actually looked offended at that, "I mean, I know there are some but... I don't like it alright. Heats and ruts, they're painful and distracting when you're all by yourself." Jinx glanced back at Lux and with a sigh she walked past her and picked up a pillow and a blanket, as well as few guns from her table, "The rest is yours, its not much but you can have it. There's no one else here so I'll bring you food too."
"Why are you being so nice to me?" Lux was still on her guard, for all she knew this could be a trick of some kind.
"Because I've seen how ugly things can get. I've killed people you know, lots of them. It was fun. But I haven't forced myself on anyone. That doesn't sound fun. So I don't do it. I'm simple." It didn't seem that way. To Lux it looked like Jinx had a lot to tell, "Anyway I'll be outside if you need me. Oh and one more thing, don't touch anything if you don't know what it does. Shame if you blew yourself to bits. Also don't break anything. If you did, well I might have to break you a little, and we don't want that do we?" With a wink and a smile Jinx left the room.
True to her word she stayed outside for the night. But it didn't mean Lux couldn't smell her. The alpha's scent was all over the room and Lux's heat was getting to her. She burred her nose in the pillow, taking in the scent. It smelled metallic, with a hint of crayons and something really sweet. An odd combination but one that Lux found very alluring. And she shouldn't. This was an alpha she didn't know anything about really. But her body reacted to the scent like no other.
She could hear Jinx growling, groaning, cursing and moaning outside the door and Lux didn't have to think hard to guess what the alpha was doing. It only made the alpha pheromones stronger. Lux never felt like this, she never let her heat get out of control before. She felt hot and aching everywhere, but most of all between her legs.
A hand started making its way down her body, just barely under the hem of her pants when she paused. She was a Crownguard, she couldn't let her base desires get the better of her now, least of all because of an alpha she just met. Could she? No. No matter how pretty those sparkling eyes were, how that smirk sent shivers down her spine.
She moaned. With her thoughts so focused on the alpha, and with that metallic scent all around her Lux began to touch herself without even realizing. And of course she knew Jinx could hear her, could smell the arousal. But that only made her speed up, her fingers going deeper and rougher, her other hand joining to rub her clit.
"Fuck!" Came a barely muffled and broken moan from the outside. Lux imagined Jinx, sweaty and moaning and thrusting her hips into her. It sent her over the edge as well. She turned her face into the pillow to muffle her moans but in doing so she inhaled more of Jinx's scent.
Once she managed to calm down and wiped her hands on the sheets she stood up, and with shaky legs walked to the door.
Her hand reached for the doorknob before she pulled it away. She groaned and sat down with her back to the door, knees pulled to her chest.
"Had a good jerk off session Princess? Cause I sure did." Jinx laughed and Lux could practically her the smirk.
"Do you have to be so crude?" Lux groaned.
"Hey I'm just telling it like it is. No need to be embarrassed about it. It feels damn good." But Jinx knew Lux would feel even better than her hand. She wanted to open that door, take Lux to bed and fuck her until both of them passed out. Shaking her head from those thoughts she stood up and pulled her pants up, "I'm going to get us some food. Stay here alright. Don't open the door unless you know its me, there are crazy people around here." A slightly sinister chuckle followed.
Was Lux really safe with Jinx? She liked to think so but she didn't really know anything about her. And Jinx didn't know anything about Lux either. She did however know that Jinx was right about it not being safe for her outside for the time being. So she decided to wait.
The food that Jinx brought looked strange and maybe poisonous. She wasn't sure what it was honestly. Jinx just shoved the container of the broth and meat in her room as quickly as she could before she closed the door. Lux could hear her exhale.
"Eat up before it gets cold. Its pretty yucky then." Lux heard Jinx slurping the broth outside the door. She looked at it one more time before trying it. Actually wasn't that bad. A little on the sour side but it was good. And the meat wasn't as chewy as it looked.
"Thank you." She said when she was done.
Jinx hummed in acknowledgement, "Changed your mind about fucking me while I was gone?"
"What?! No!" Lux blushed, her face hot, "I don't even know you!"
"That's not true. I told you like, ten whole sentences at least. I've fucked people who knew way less." Jinx laughed mischievously, "And I've been told I'm very talented." There was a pause, "You can't see it but I'm licking my lips."
"Well..." Lux huffed, "You don't know me." There was a pause. Complete silence. Then some shuffling. The door opened suddenly, causing Lux to fall backwards, right into Jinx's arms. Jinx's lifted her up. The alpha was shorter than her and she didn't look like had much muscle but damn was she strong.
Jinx smirked, "Is that the issue? I'd be happy to learn then." Her tone was low and teasing, but her face looked genuine, and a little curious. She walked them back to the bed.
Lux saw where they were heading, her eyes widening, "Hold on, I just said..." Jinx lowered her on the bed, but didn't get on top of her. Instead she sat cross-legged on the edge. It was then that Lux noticed that Jinx wasn't waring anything below the waist. She yelped and covered her blushing face and eyes.
"What never seen a dick before?" Jinx mocked.
"No." Lux's addition came as a shock to Jinx, "Well yes. I've healed people so... but not like that."
"Oh. You must have been pretty sheltered huh Sunshine. You can look at mine though, I don't mind trust me." She was teasing her. Well Lux wasn't gonna give her the satisfaction.
"Why are you half naked in the first place?" It sounded like a reasonable question. Lux still held her hands over her eyes but Jinx's could see her frown.
The Zaunite sighed, "I'm an alpha in a rut, and I'm in the comfort of my own home. Why would I wear pants? Plus you're here. Pants just make things more difficult. But alright, I'll compromise." The bed shifted slightly, "You can look now."
When Lux lowered her hands she saw that Jinx covered herself with a pillow. The pillow that Lux slept on. Granted there weren't many other ones on the bed but Lux had a feeling Jinx chose that one intentionally. And judging by the smirk on Jinx's face she was right.
Lux rolled her eyes, which made Jinx chuckle in delight.
"Sooo... tell me about yourself." How the hell could Jinx just sit there so calmly. The swirl of pheromones was making Lux light headed, her thighs rubbing together and by the way Jinx bit her lip and the way her nostrils flared she noticed the movement. But she didn't do anything about it and it made Lux's inner omega sad.
Was she undesirable to the alpha?
Her change in mood didn't go unnoticed by Jinx. The alpha groaned. She was confused. Did the omega want her or not? She was in heat and uncomfortable. But she didn't want to have sex. Yet the way she looked at Jinx and the smell of arousal told Jinx otherwise. Jinx wanted to have sex, and she wasn't hiding that fact in the slightest. Maybe she was shy? She said she never saw a hard dick so maybe she never fucked before? Ugh so many questions.
"I want to fuck you." Jinx said bluntly. Lux yelped, her blush returning to her face, "You're so pretty and you smell so nice, nicer than any other omega I've ever been with. You make me so fucking hard I just wanna shove my cock in your..." Jinx stopped when she saw the look on Lux's face. Her mouth was open in shock, her eyes wide and her face beat red, "Right, right. We're here to talk, duh. I really think you should talk. Tell me about you. Or I can start. I like sweet drinks, bright colors, tinkering, uh... making things explode, drawing and... oh making my sister's girlfriend lose her cool." Jinx laughed at that, and her laugh sounded so... innocent. It made Lux's heart flutter. "Your turn."
Lux blinked rapidly, processing the information, "Um... I have an older brother." Jinx snorted but allowed her to go on, "My family are noble protectors of Demacia, I'm a mage, I like reading a lot. My brother can be overprotective at times, which can get annoying but I know he means well. Oh! I can do this." Lux snapped her fingers and a little orb of light appeared in front of them.
"Holy shit." Jinx mumbled. She drew closer to examine the orb, her fingers just short of touching it, "Does it explode?"
Now it was Lux's turn to laugh, "It can if I want it to. I'm still learning how to control it. Demacia isn't the best place for most mages. Sometimes I think the only reason I'm allowed to practice it is because of my family name." The orb flickered out of existence as Lux's voice smile dropped.
"Well I think it's cool." Jinx heard a small 'thanks' from the omega and she seemed to relax a little, which made Jinx puff out her chest. "Do you and your brother get along? My sister and I don't. We used to but then... well she chose a Topsider Enforcer over me." Jinx's tone changed immediately. Her voice low and angry, her eyes flickering. It was strange.
"I-I'm sorry." Lux didn't know what else to say, she had no idea who Jinx's sister was or who this Enforcer was.
"That's ok. I made them pay. Blew up a tower, almost killed Top Hat's mom. They got the message." Jinx's eyes flickered again but this time there was such humor and joy in her voice, like she was remembering a nice childhood memory.
Lux stiffened, "You..."
"Oh don't worry, they're fine. Really pissed at me, even thought that was years ago. But they haven't caught me yet." Jinx shrugged, "I... sometimes I miss her you know. It can get kinda lonely here."
Lux did know, she often felt alone. And for some reason she felt a little less so right now, "My brother loves me dearly. I know that. Still I do feel lonely at times. Magic is dangerous, full of unknowns. Not just in Demacia but everywhere. And you never know what's going to trigger and make it..."
"Explode." Jinx finished for her.
"Yes." Lux looked at Jinx's face. For once there wasn't a hint of mischief there. Just Jinx, her eyes darting around, searching for something from Lux. Very slowly Lux reached across the bed and took Jinx's hand in her own. It was smaller than her hand but colder and rough. Lux ran her thumb over Jinx hand, an action that made the alpha let out a sound between a groan and whimper and just as quickly pull away, like Lux's touch hurt her.
Jinx stared at her hand for a moment before her attention was back on Lux, "Sunshine?" Lux hummed, feeling the alpha sending pheromones more intensely than before. Lux responded in kind, watching as Jinx pupils dilated. The alpha made a move, crawling across the bed until she was face to face with Lux, hands sneaking around Lux's waist, holding her tight, "I'm... I'm gonna kiss you now." She whispered it like a promise.
A part of Lux was telling to push Jinx away, to run, that the alpha was clearly dangerous and unstable. But another part of her felt that Jinx was lonely and scared, that Jinx needed her, wanted her. It was a nice feeling to have. She still didn't know much about the alpha but she knew that they both wanted each other at this moment.
They met in the middle for their kiss, moaning as their lips locked and overlapped. Lux hadn't kisses many people so the best she could do is follow Jinx's lead and her own instincts.
Jinx tilted her head, wanting to kiss Lux for as long as possible. Her lips were just as soft as she imagined against Jinx's rougher ones. The moan that Lux let out as Jinx slipped her tongue in, brushing it against the mages own, was music to Jinx's ears. She wanted more.
Without breaking the kiss Jinx undid button after button on Lux's shirt pushing the material past her shoulders and tossing it next to the bed. Jinx's hands made even quicker work of Lux's bra which joined the shirt. Not a moment later Jinx was rewarded with another moan as her hands found Lux's breasts, lightly brushing over the blonde woman's hardening nipples.
As much as Lux liked this treatment she also needed air, pulling away, giggling as Jinx's lips chased after hers seemingly not at all out of breath.
Jinx's lips didn't stay unoccupied for long however, finding and taking one of Lux's nipples into her mouth sucking and biting roughly while pinching the other, before gently licking and kissing over them and repeating the process. The little tingles of pain mixed with pleasure as Lux tangled her hands trough Jinx's hair, "Lower. I need..."
"Yeah." Jinx groaned as she lowered Lux on her back, hastily throwing her shirt away, now leaving her completely naked. For the first time Lux allowed herself to take in the sight. Jinx seemed to be almost vibrating with energy, her hands clenching and unclenching the sheets, nostrils flaring, a hair out of place here and there. And her cock hard between her legs.
The Zaunite laughed when she caught her staring. Her hand wrapped around her cock and gave a few strokes, Lux's eyes following the movement, feeling herself getting wetter.
"Honestly I think I could cum just from you watching me." Jinx confessed, "But I'd much rather you help me out. Do you want to help me Sunshine?" Lux could only nod as she watched Jinx's hand speed up, "Good. I was really hoping you'd say that."
In a blink of an eye Jinx was on top of her. Lux startled for a moment, before Jinx's hands smoothed over the woman's shoulders. She took one of Lux's hands and guided it down to slowly wrap around her cock. Jinx moaned at the contact and her dick twitched at feeling the omega's hand. Lux started moving her hand like she'd seen Jinx do earlier.
The alpha hummed and groaned, her eyes shutting tight. Lux assumed she was doing well if the way Jinx's cock pulsed and twitched was anything to go by.
"Faster. Swipe your thumb over the head when you reach the top." Lux did as she was told and the reaction she got was Jinx pulling her hug, whispering in her ear, "Again." This time Jinx thrust her hips upwards, "You can squeeze harder." Again Lux obeyed and again she got a wonderful reaction, Jinx growling in her ear, nipping and biting at her ear lobe.
Lux felt something dripping down her hand. Upon looking down she saw that it was cum. Jinx was about to come, she was gonna make Jinx...
"Stop." A hand grabbed Lux's wrist and she wondered if she did something wrong, "I wasted enough cum jerking off. Next time I finish, it's gonna be inside you." Jinx growled the words into Lux's ear. "But first I wanna make your feel good."
"Yeah? I seem to remember you taking about your talents." This made Jinx chuckle. She kisses her way down Lux's neck, glancing up as she reached her breasts and sucked on a nipple again.
"I have a lot of talents. But..." Lux moaned as she felt Jinx fingering her trough her pants and underwear, "I don't think you're ready for some of them just yet. For starters let's lose the rest of this outfit. It's getting in the way don't you think?"
Lux could only hum contently as Jinx started kissing lower, stopping here and there to suck and bite, leaving a trail of hickies in her wake. Her hands pulls the pants down as she kissed down Lux's legs. As the omega kicked them away Jinx smoothed her hands over Lux's thighs, kissing her way back up. She was so close, so close to where Lux needed her most, so close to the source of that sweet scent of arousal.
Jinx pulled on the band with her teeth, snapping it against Lux's sink once, making Lux moan and squirm, "Damn it." She breathed out between her moans.
Jinx laughed, "Damn it? Come on Luxy you can curse better than that. Or if not, well I'll just have to make you." Jinx pulled the panties down and threw them over her shoulder, now having a full view of a naked Lux.
The omega blushed under Jinx's tense gaze.
"What's the matter? I thought you wanted to see my talents. What happened to that? Change your mind?" Jinx teased by sliding her thumb into Lux's dripping heat, just barely.
"No, it's just that..." Jinx's thumb swiftly passed over Lux's clit, so quickly that it seemed unhuman, before it was back, teasing her opening. Lux gasped, not sure if she should be moving away or towards Jinx's hand, she didn't want to be teased but at the same time, "I've never done this before."
"Figured. Don't worry, I'll take good care of you. Real good care." Jinx pushed her middle finger all the way inside Lux's pussy, "You're so wet already. You could probably take me even now couldn't you. You'd take me like a good omega." Jinx started a slow pace, fingering Lux surprisingly gently.
Her other hand made her way to Lux's hip, caressing her as Lux started to roll her hips.
"You're really pretty. I wonder if you taste as good as you look." Lux's eyes snapped open at that and before she could speak she moaned. Loudly.
It seemed like Jinx's mouth was good for a lot more than talking. The way Jinx's tongue licked around her clit, teasing her, going all the way down to the source of her slick and having just a little taste, telling Lux how good she tasted. It was almost too much. She fingered herself before, but she never felt anyone's mouth down there before. And when Jinx's mouth closed and sucked on her clit Lux couldn't help but grabbing fistfuls of Jinx's hair and fucking herself on Jinx's mouth and finger, "Fuck!"
She could feel Jinx grin, "I knew I could get you to curse. Wonder what else I can get that mouth of yours to do for me?" Jinx didn't give her a chance to answer, head dipping back down, resuming her task of making Lux come. Jinx could feel every sigh, moan and shudder from the omega. She added another finger, stretching Lux further, loving the feeling around her fingers.
Just the thought of feeling the same around her cock made more cum flow down her shaft. She wanted to fuck her so hard, wanted to be inside.
So she doubled her efforts, rewarded with more moans and Lux now all but riding her face, chasing her own pleasure. The grip on her hair was almost painful but Jinx couldn't care less if she got to enjoy Lux like this.
"I'm... I..." Lux breath hitched, her body shaking as her orgasm hit. Jinx immediately moved to lap up the flowing juices, moaning as her chin was covered in them, tasting the omega in her tongue, savoring it.
It took some time before Lux's breathing got back to normal. Her eyes fluttered closed and she had a satisficed smile on her face. Jinx saw that and was filled with an incredible sense of pride and accomplishment. So glad she was able to please the omega under her like this. She kissed her way up Lux's body.
"I take it you enjoyed yourself." She stated more than asked between her kisses.
"Hmm you are pretty talented I will admit." Lux sighed as she wrapped her arms around Jinx's back and pulled her into a gentle, but deep kiss, moaning as she tasted herself. Jinx groaned in surprise. Lux pulled back frown, "Something the matter?"
Jinx blinked, "No. No it's just... usually when I fuck people we just, you know go right to it. I guess going back to gentleness just..."
"Oh. Alright, I understand." Lux's hands began to drift away from Jinx's back, only for Jinx's own hands to wrap around Lux's waist. Jinx shook her head.
"I didn't say to stop." Jinx began kissing Lux's neck again as Lux's hands ran across her back, "I kinda like this." Jinx admitted, "But at the same time I really, really want to be inside you. I mean it fucking hurts how hard my dick is right now. We can do more of this later."
As much as Lux wanted to see more of this softer side of Jinx she was aching too. She just came and she wanted more. So much more, "Can you go slow?" Asking an aloha to go slow while they were in rut was almost laughable.
"I'll try." Jinx mumbled against Lux's lips before kissing her once again. Lux spread her legs more allowing Jinx more room, "Good omega." Lux's heart fluttered at the praise.
The alpha aligned herself with the omega's wet entrance, brushing her tip between the pink, wet folds. Lux groaned, "Don't tease please."
Jinx chuckled, "Eager much are you?" True to her Jinx stopped teasing and slid in slowly and carefully. Her body shook with effort of keeping her self control, keeping herself from thrusting fast and rough like she wanted. There would be time for that later Jinx told herself. She kept her eyes on Lux's face, frowned from pain despite Jinx's best efforts.
Both let out a shaky breath as Jinx bottomed out.
"You feel even better than I thought." Jinx supported herself on her arms as she grinned down at Lux, the mage suddenly shy all over again, "Aww come on, don't get like that now. I wanna see your face clearly. So look at me." The tone was more commanding that Jinx intended, her alpha instincts already starting to consume her further now that she finally inside the lovely omega.
Lux turned her head her eyes looking into Jinx's. The little blue that she could see was now dark and stormy, with most swallowed by her pupils. She liked her eyes, they reminded her that she couldn't let go just yet.
With everyone else it was so fast. Just chasing a release, a high, no real feelings of any kind. She wanted Lux to have a better experience than that.
"Hey did you hear me?" Lux's voice snapped her from her thoughts. She blinked a few times. Lux laughed, running her hand down Jinx's tattooed arm, "I said you can move."
Jinx's eyes glowed and shimmered at the words. Her first thrusts were slow and deep, allowing Lux to get used to the feeling.
"It's... I feel like you fit perfectly inside of me." Lux's sighs turned into moans as Jinx's moved her hips a little faster.
Jinx's hands drifted to Lux's hips, moving them in tandem with her own, "Most alphas and omegas are very compatible. But you..." Jinx's hips snapped a little faster, "I don't think I've ever had pussy this good."
The praise sent a jolt of pleasure across Lux's body, her walls fluttering around Jinx's dick.
"Did you like that?" Lux nodded, her legs wrapping around Jinx's hips as she began to move her hips on her own, wanting to get closer to the alpha. Jinx leaned in, pressing kisses where ever her lips happened to touch, "I love how you feel around me, how you take my cock. And how you..." Jinx pulled out until just the tip was left inside, Lux whined, her hips rolling forward, pussy clenching around the tip. Nibbling on her ear Jinx husked, "I love how badly you want to be filled by me."
Jinx sunk back in, until her hips were flush against Lux's. Lux moaned loudly, throwing her head back, which exposed her unmarked throat.
Purple eyes zeroed in on the spot where a bite mark would be. Jinx lowered her neck, her nose taking in the sweet scent there, rubbing against Lux.
Her teeth and jaw hurt. Jinx wanted to mark her. She got the urge sometimes with other omegas, but never like this, she saw those omegas sometimes afterwards. Lux however, she would leave. Jinx knew that much, she said it herself. She would leave, never see Jinx again and get married to some rich dumbass alpha.
Jinx growled possessively.
Lux exposed more of her neck, "Go ahead." Jinx's almost it her tongue, almost drawing blood, her hips now moving in a blur, as she growled, torn between biting and not biting.
She'd experienced this before, but it was new to Lux. She couldn't do this. She couldn't tie Lux to her this soon no matter how much her instincts screamed to do it. But she can please her, she can make her come. As many times as Lux can handle. Give her a different kind of tie.
"Do you..." Jinx swallowed, "Do you want my knot?" Her lips kissed over the spot where the mating mark would be, and it was enough for now. It had to be.
"Yes." Lux breathed hard, her pussy fluttering around Jinx's cock, she was so close, just a few more strokes, "Please."
"I'm gonna need you to come for me first. Can you do that for me Lux? Can you be a good omega and come for me?" Lux's response was a broken moan and a rush of heat flooding Jinx's twitching cock, "Good girl. So good for me."
The slick helped Jinx slip her knot inside with ease. As soon as that happened Jinx couldn't stop herself from coming. The rush of warm seed sent Lux into another orgasm of her own. It was hard to tell how many times they came, one orgasm ending just as the other began. Jinx kept rolling her hips, her thrusts slow and shallow.
Lux hummed, a content smile on her lips as she ran her hands over Jinx's sweaty back and trough her hair, cupping her face and bringing her in for a lazy kiss. And this time Jinx wasn't surprised in the least.
"We're gonna be tied for a while Sunshine. You wanna move?" Jinx leaned her head just under Lux's breasts.
"No. I like this." The mage ran her hands over Jinx's face, moving stray strands of blue hair from her eyes.
Jinx chuckled, "I like it too. Means I can do this." She leaned up, licking a stiff nipple before gently biting and letting go with a pop.
Lux could feel Jinx's cock, still hard, hot and pulsing inside of her, "Are all alphas as insatiable as you?"
Jinx narrowed her eyes, "Why are you thinking about other alphas?" She attempted to frown but it looked more like a pout, such a contrast from the alpha that just had Lux shaking and moaning with pleasure, "I'm right here. I'm all the alpha you need."
There was something slightly desperate in her tone.
"Do you wanna go again? Because I can. As soon as I can move properly again I'll..." Lux cut her off with a kiss. Jinx's eyes closed shut. What the fuck was happening? She was never this vulnerable during a rut. So desperate. Weak.
Lux could smell the nervous, scared pheromones coming off Jinx. She didn't know what triggered them but the omega didn't like them one bit. She hugged Jinx close to her, "How about we rest?"
"Rest? No. No we just got started. I don't need rest." She moved her hips again, her thrust was shallow but they both moaned still, "See?"
As good at that sounded Lux was tired. So much happened and she was exhausted. Both physically and emotionally, "But I need rest. Jinx... this was my first time. I know you can go again and I want to, believe me I want to." To make her point Lux clenched her pussy, which made Jinx groan out her name, "I just want to rest a little. Sleep. We can go again when we wake up."
Oh. So she'll still be here when Jinx wakes up. Of course she will. They still had a few days of heat and rut. A few days more. Jinx will make them count then. She didn't know why but every fiber of her being told her to make them count.
"Ok." She kissed just under Lux's breasts, "But these are my pillows now."
Jinx seemed to be in a better mood already. Lux wanted to ask about it. But that could wait until they get some sleep. She grabbed the blanket on the side of the bed and draped it over them. It didn't take long for them to drift to sleep.
Lux was the first to wake up.
It seemed like they shifted in their sleep. The two were on their side, with Jinx's arms wrapping around Lux's middle and her face burred between Lux's breasts. Jinx really seemed to like them. The alpha looked peaceful while she slept. Usually she was so full of energy, this was the first time Lux got so see her so calm.
She had the urge to kiss her. Was it because of her heat? She did feel hot all over, however this urge felt different to the omega. And she wasn't sure if she should give into it or not. On one hand Jinx seemed like the alpha of her words so far, but on the other hand she sometimes said things that didn't make sense to people that weren't really there. Jinx was a bad idea. A bad idea Lux wanted so desperately it hurt.
And she wanted something else as well. She ached to have Jinx's cock back inside her.
Glancing down between their bodies she saw that Jinx was hard, even in her sleep. She licked her lips. Would Jinx enjoy a blowjob so early in the morning? Did alphas like to be woken up like that? Or maybe...
Lux spread her thighs, rolling her hips, Jinx's cock rubbing between her lips, making nice and wet with Lux's slick. The alpha moaned in delight.
"Needy omega." Jinx grumbled, voice groggy and heavy with sleep, "Want my cock this early?" Jinx's arms ran all over Lux's body and with the speed of light flipped Lux on her back, wrists pinned above her head with strength Lux was still surprised the alpha possessed.
Jinx's eyes were hazy and half-lid. It didn't seem like she was fully awake yet, "Jinx?"
Jinx chuckled, her cock rubbing between Lux's lips, the tip brushing over her clit, making her hips jump at the contact. It didn't seem like Jinx heard her, "Of course you want it already. You're such a cock-hungry little..." She stopped. Blinked once. Twice. She shook her head, eyes seeming to clear. "Lux." Jinx breathed out.
"Jinx?" Lux tried again, "Are you... alright?"
The alpha's eyes darted around, all over Lux's body, down between them, then at her wrists. She immediately let go.
"Uh... Sorry. I..." Jinx frowned and shook her head again, "Fuck!" She cursed loudly and turned away, crossing her legs, head between her hands, as she mumbled to herself to calm down.
Lux missed the contact already. No matter what she just wanted to be close to the alpha. So slowly she sat up, made her way in front of Jinx and into her lap. Jinx's eyes widened, her arms falling to her sides as Lux leaned in, "What do you need?" She whispered as she gently bit Jinx's ear.
Jinx was quiet for a moment, processing what was happening. She had a beautiful omega in her lap, asking what she needed. She knew full well what she needed, Jinx's stiff cock was enough to convey that much. But she also had a feeling that Lux was asking more than just that.
"You." Jinx answered. She didn't feel like talking, especially not talking about her issues or feelings right now, not when she could fuck Lux with all she had instead, "I need you. To be inside of you. I... didn't mean to insult you earlier." Jinx hated that she couldn't stop talking sometimes, "The omegas I usually fuck around with... they like that so I..."
"I liked it too." Lux never thought she would admit to liking being talked to in that way but from Jinx she did like it. She couldn't explain it but she did.
"You... you did?" Jinx sounded just as surprised.
Lux nodded, reaching between their bodies for Jinx's cock. She lifted herself up and aligned her entrance with it, giving it a few strokes. Her eyes locked on Jinx's. The alpha's eyes were wide and her mouth agape, it was good to see her surprised for a change. Lux smirked and slowly sank down on that rock hard cock, easing herself down inch by inch.
"Oh fuck!" Jinx threw her head back in pleasure. Her hands tightened on the sheets, a groan breaking from her lips when Lux's hips were flush against her own. Lux braced herself on Jinx's shoulders, she was trembling.
After a few moments she eased herself up then back on Jinx's cock. She began rolling her hips, taking Jinx all the way to the base each time.
Jinx wanted to roll them over. To be the one fucking Lux. But the sight of the omega sliding up and down her throbbing dick was too good, the feeling was heavenly. Lux stretching and pulsing around her, the molten heat, the wetness dripping down the omega's thighs and on her own. Jinx never allowed anyone else to be on top, she had no idea getting your cock ridden felt this good. She never wanted it to stop.
She felt Lux clamping down around her cock, she was close. Well Jinx wasn't gonna let her do all the work. Her hand sneaked between their bodies and found Lux's clit, pressing her thumb against it, rolling over it with every roll of Lux's hips, "There. Don't stop please." Lux moaned and whined on top of her, her cries of pleasure getting higher and higher, "So close. So... Jinx!" Lux sank down hard, a flood of heat gushing from her clenching pussy, coating Jinx's cock and thighs.
Jinx wrapped one arm around Lux's back to keep her steady, the other one still working on Lux's clit, enjoying the little spasms around her cock whenever she would rub the little nub.
Jinx kissed her. Her chest, her shoulders, her collarbones all the while whispering words of praise against the omega's skin.
"You didn't..." Lux's words caught in her throat when Jinx pressed against her clit hard.
"I will." Jinx smiled against Lux skin, "Look at you. So worried about me coming. What a good omega." Lux rolled her hips again at the praise, whining as Jinx moved her hand away. Her eyes widened and she gasped when Jinx licked her fingers clean of Lux's cum. It made her want Jinx's mouth on her again, "If you want my cum, you gotta work for it."
"Huh? But..." Jinx growled at her, eyes narrowing and shining purple.
Lux suddenly found herself being lifted off the bed. She yelped and wrapped her legs and around tight around Jinx's body. The alpha laughed, her hands under Lux's thighs to support her, "Won't be that difficult I promise. First I want us to eat some real food though. Fucking eventually drains even me. But afterwards..." Jinx's leaned in to whisper against Lux's ear, "You're gonna put that pretty mouth of yours to work."
Lux breathed in deeply, pussy fluttering around Jinx's dick. The alpha hummed, wanting to enjoy the feeling a little more. But she did promise Lux food.
They, well Jinx, walked out of the bedroom, her did still deep inside the omega, carrying Lux with ease while humming a song into her ear.
"How are you this strong?" Jinx laughed.
"Shimmer." She pulled away and blinked. Her purple eyes sparkling.
"I... I don't understand. I thought by now most of the Shimmer was..." Lux yelped as Jinx's eyes flashed and she found herself pressed against the wall with inhuman speed. The movement also made their hips roll against each other, sending another flood of arousal coursing through them.
Jinx thrust once, twice, all the while keeping her eyes locked on Lux's, "Not a problem for me sweetheart. And I'm not on the drug if you're worried about that. Just a little side effect of... well temporary death." Jinx laughed about it like she told a funny joke. This only gave Lux more questions. But questions could wait, especially when she had the alpha's hard cock still inside her, thrusting deep and slow.
For a moment they considered fucking in the hallway, lips inches away when Jinx's stomach growled. The alpha huffed a string of curse words as Lux laughed.
"Right. Food." Jinx backed away from the wall, Lux still in her arms. They should really eat something before the urge to fuck overtook their brains again.
Jinx didn't have much to offer, Lux figured it was some type of fruit since it was sweet, but it would do. Much to both their dismay they had to separate to eat. As soon as they did so the urges started again. Neither of them ever felt such a strong pull toward a potential mate, so they ate quickly, Jinx making very little effort to hide the way her eyes hungerly roamed Lux's body.
Jinx also made sure to give Lux some morning after pills so the Crownguard didn't get pregnant. Much to the dismay of their baser instincts but they couldn't risk it right now.
When they took the last bite of their food, Jinx spoke, "Come here." Lux stood up and crossed the distance without a second thought, "Down on your knees." Jinx spread her legs wider as she spoke, her intent now crystal clear. Lux gulped but did as she was told, "So obedient." Jinx smirked down at her, "Now, suck."
It was a simple order, still Lux hesitated. She reached out and wrapped her hand around the stiff, wet dick, moving her hands from base to the head. Then she leaned in, slowly kissing along the length. She heard Jinx grunt, one pale hand tangling into her blonde hair, guiding her lips to the cockhead.
Jinx was really trying to be patient here, as gentle as she could possibly be as she waited for Lux to move. Instead of taking her dick in that pretty mouth Lux kissed the tip, enjoying how Jinx's cock seemed to jerk and twitch at the contact. She did it again and again, all the while her hand worked along the length.
"Stop teasing." Jinx grit her teeth, she was at the end of her rope, "If you don't I'll have to punish you later." That wasn't the threat Jinx thought it was apparently seeing as Lux only moaned at her words, "Oh yeah. Heat. You'd actually enjoy my punishment wouldn't you? Let's see... what should I do to- oh fuck!" Just then Jinx felt Lux swallow her cock.
She looked down at the Demacian who watched her with hooded eyes, her attention seemingly split between what Jinx was saying and the cock that was in her mouth.
Admittedly a punishment from the blue haired alpha didn't sound half bad at the moment, at the same time she wanted to revel in the way Jinx's cock tasted and moved every time she bobbed her head.
"You're a real vixen aren't you? Getting me all worked up. You want to get punished don't you? All that talk of being some Demacian big shot and here you are, on your knees, sucking my cock like any other omega bitch. And you do it so well too." Jinx's other hand joined the other to tug on Lux's hair. It wasn't that painful, in fact Lux liked it, the feeling sent another flood of head between her thighs.
Jinx pulled and tugged, helping Lux find a rhythm that best pleased the alpha. And Lux did her best to take all of her every time, her tongue running over the underside, over the tip, tasting drops of cum.
"How would you like to be punished? Should I bend you over the table and fuck you senseless, take you against the wall, get you on all fours and pound you until you forget your own name, tie you up so you're completely at my mercy? What do you want omega?"
Seeing as how her mouth was busy with the alpha's cock, Lux could only moan and whine in response. Jinx hummed, enjoying the feeling it sent across her cock.
"All of it? You're so slutty, I like it. How can I say no when you're sucking on my dick like this. You're a natural you know." Jinx's hips started jerking upwards, her breathing hitching, "I'm about to come. Make sure to swallow it all." Jinx moved faster, jaw clenching, eyes shutting tight, grunting and snarling as her release hit.
Lux gasped at the rush of hot seed released into her mouth. It was salty but not exactly bad. And just when she thought Jinx would done more would come out, flooding her throat as she did her best to take it all.
It took Jinx a bit to calm down afterwards, her body shaking as she slumped down into the chair, her grip on Lux's head loosening but not letting go.
"You... fuck that was great." Jinx let out a satisfied laugh. She seemed like she had more to say but couldn't find the words right now, her brain still hazy with her orgasm.
As Lux pulled away she kissed along Jinx's semi-hard dick, to her stomach where her muscles rippled and Jinx lightly pushed her away.
"Stop that." Ah so Jinx was ticklish. Yet another new thing Lux learned.
"My jaw hurts." Lux rubbed her hand over it. It wasn't a throbbing pain, just a slightly uncomfortable one.
Jinx ran her hand down Lux's cheek, the omega finding herself leaning into it. Jinx's breath hitched for a moment but she played it off like she was still getting her baring's, "Oh don't worry, when I'm done with you it won't be the only place that's hurting. If you're really good though, I'll consider kissing them better." Jinx winked and enjoyed the blush that spread down Lux's cheeks.
Despite everything that they did recently Lux still couldn't help but blush, however this time she wasn't embarrassed exactly, she was anticipating it.
"Now then..." That familiar glow was back as Jinx rushed forward, scooping Lux up, turning her around and pinning her to the table. "I believe punishment is in order." Jinx rolled her hips into Lux, the omega gasping as she felt that the alpha was already hard again.
"Do I get to return the punishment later?" Lux threw her head back, moaning and hips wiggling as she felt Jinx's cock entering her.
Jinx couldn't help but laugh, "So kinky. I'm interested to see what you would come up with." Her hips started rocking into the omega.
"Do a good job and maybe you'll find out." Lux winked and Jinx's eyebrows shot up.
This was a new side to the omega, one Jinx really, really liked, "Ok." She said dumbly. Lux hummed, rolling her hips backwards which seemed to snap Jinx out of her stunned state. She had a job to do right now, making the omega lose herself to the pleasure Jinx was about to give her.
And she did. She delivered on all of her punishments. Fucking with Lux was unlike anything she'd ever experienced before. They simply couldn't get enough of each other. Jinx was pretty sure they fucked in every room in her small hideaway house over the next few days.
Even the shower, where Lux delivered her own punishment but edging Jinx with her hand and mouth, until the alpha couldn't take anymore and carried the omega to the bed, both of them not even bothering to dry off.
Today was the last day of their cycles and Jinx wanted to make it one Lux would never forget.
Lux moaned as Jinx moved on top of her, "Fuck, faster. I know you can fuck me better than that." Lux found that Jinx went a lot harder when she was challenged. Jinx shifted to a slightly different angle, one that made her cock hit that wonderful spot, "Yes! There, right there!"
"Love seeing you like this." Jinx grunted. Her hands moved all over Lux's body, from her clit, to her breasts, to her lower back to hold her closer, "You're so pretty when you ask for it." Jinx left little kisses all over Lux's neck, applying more pressure where her shoulder met her neck.
In response Lux pulled her closer, exposing her neck more while also burring her face in Jinx's neck, kissing over her pulse point. She nibbled on it, gently applying teeth.
Jinx went still and stopped thrusting, her body locking up.
"Jinx? Everything alright?" Lux's voice was worried. The alpha never stopped until she made her come, until she unloaded her load in the omega. She could hear Jinx's breathing speeding up, her body shaking, "Jinx?"
The omega pushed on Jinx's shoulders to get a look at her face. She was even paler than usual, in fact she looked like she was gonna be sick.
It wasn't the norm that an omega would mark the alpha first. Or at all sometimes. And Lux was at that point now. She wanted to mark Jinx.
"Why?" Jinx breathed out, "Is it the heat? I'm nobody. I... I can't. I can't give you anything. But I want to give you everything. I don't want you to... I don't want you to leave." Jinx eyes started flickering, she looked down to Lux's neck, where the mating mark would be, she clenched her teeth so hard they hurt, "I want to make you mine. Make you pregnant. And it's crazy you know. Because I can't to that to you. You need... deserve someone who can... someone better than me."
Tears started rolling down Jinx's cheeks. She looked like she was about to combust.
Lux gently cupped Jinx's face, swiping tears from her cheeks before pulling her into a gentle, but passionate, deep kiss. It was slow and full of emotion, "You're amazing. I want to be with you more. Experience the world the way you do. And give that experience back. Take you home. Make a home. Make..." Lux rolled her hips into Jinx's, "Make a family someday."
"Family? You want... to be my family?" Jinx chuckled darkly to herself, "I killed my last family. You don't want me Sunshine."
Lux's brows frowned, "Jinx I wouldn't let you fuck me otherwise."
"The fuck you wouldn't." Jinx hips snapped into hers hard, a breathy moan following from Lux, "See? You're in heat. It... it didn't have to be me right? But I'm glad it was."
"No. No, it did. It had to be you. You and only you. Only my alpha." Lux pulled her into another kiss.
As mush as Jinx loved being called that she still couldn't shake the crushing sense of doubt in her chest, "Stop. You keep giving me hope. That's cruel of you Sunlight."
"I want you to be mine Jinx. And I want to be yours." Lux growled as she went back to kissing Jinx's neck, making the alpha shiver and whimper, "I want your cock." She rolled her hips in slow motions, "I want to be with you, show you how much you're worth."
Jinx started moving her hips as well, they moved in a slow and deep rhythm, "Sunshine. You're gonna break me you know that." Jinx tried to laugh but it sounded more like a cry.
"That's fine. I promise I'll help put you back together as well." She nibbled on Jinx's neck.
"Fuck." Jinx grunted as her hips picked up speed. Lux wrapped her legs around Jinx's hips, whispering encouraging words into her ear as they both neared their peak, "I'm gonna knot you. Fill you up with my cum. Lux." The mages name broke on Jinx's lips as her knot popped inside.
Lux welcomed the stretch with a breathy moan, "Everything. Give me everything you have." Her hands roamed Jinx's back leaving scratches in their wake. Jinx liked the pain, she liked the little reminder of their time together. Maybe she'll accept the other one as well. Lux's teeth bit at the pulse point.
"Yes. Yes. Please. I want you. I'm gonna..." Jinx sounded more desperate than Lux ever heard her before. The alpha roared as Lux's fangs pierced her skin, "Fuck!" She cursed over and over, moaned Lux's name as she emptied herself into the omega's tight heat.
Then Lux felt it. Jinx's own fangs, marking her, the alpha still grunting, hips shaking as she continued to pump her seed into the omega. Lux whimpered as felt her orgasm hit. Her pussy clenched around Jinx's cock, taking in every drop Jinx had to give her.
"I think I love you." Jinx breathed out as she smoothed the mating mark with her tongue, letting their euphoria wash over them "No, I'm sure of it. I love you. Can you marry me?"
Lux laughed, "A little early for that I think."
"Says the omega that just marked me. I'll never understand you fancy folk. But fine. I can wait. As long as you still want me I'll wait. Buy you a nice ring and all. Or steal one, we'll see." Jinx sounded exhausted, both physically and emotionally.
"I'll always want you. I think I made that obvious." Lux smoothed over Jinx's hair, making the alpha let out a sleepy hum in return, "I know I'm leaving tomorrow..." Jinx's arms immediately tightened around her waist, "But I can visit. Or you can visit. And write."
"I'll miss you." Jinx planted a few more lazy kisses before she felt herself drifting to sleep.
Lux just listened to her breathing for a while, "I'll miss you too. Love you." She kissed Jinx on the forehead as the two snuggled up as best as they could with Jinx's knot still tying them together.
The next day they whispered so many promises to each other, but there were still so many things left unsaid, so many things they wanted to ask, to know. Those could wait for next time, had to wait for next time. For now a goodbye kiss would have to do. Until next time, and they both prayed that time would be really soon.

Chapter 7: The Caterpillar's Tale
Lux, who had rather enjoyed flying these last several times, now found no pleasure in it. Even the exciting rise of her stomach felt empty as the Gryphon landed in the grass beside the tea party.
Caitlyn the Hatter rose from the table, shouting in unison with Jayce the Hare and Vi the Dormouse, "No room! No room!"
Lux ignored them, slipping from the Gryphon's back and staggering towards Caitlyn.
"Your majesty!" Caitlyn said, meeting her halfway. Her tone was different: comical, even, lacking it's usual severity. Caitlyn's eyes were unfocused, hazy. Mad. "We weren't expecting you for tea, your diamond-ness! Let us- oof!"
Lux threw herself into Caitlyn's arms, sobbing into her shoulder.
A moment of confusion passed before Caitlyn seized her, muttering, "Lux, my God, I'm so sorry, I... I didn't remem- what's the matter?" She led Lux to the chair at the table's head, barking, "Jayce! Napkin, now!"
Lux sniffled into the tea-stained napkin, the others crowding around her as she explained the morning's events through her tears. At the beginning of the lament, their eyes were clouded and hazy, but gradually cleared as she went on, the madness draining from their faces. Partway through, Viktor the Cat appeared as well, curling up on Lux's lap and graciously allowing her to pet his back while she spoke.
When she was finished, she wept again into Caitlyn's shoulder. "I'm just so confused," she said between choked sobs. "I thought- I thought if I just kept going along with it all, I'd understand, but... I'm so confused."
Caitlyn and the others exchanged glances. Vi hopped down onto Lux's leg, placing a tiny paw on her hand. "It's time you saw the Caterpillar."
❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢
The Gryphon carried them all to the Caterpillar's garden, Viktor around Lux's shoulders and Vi tucked in the ribbon on Caitlyn's top hat. Among the talking flowers, Lux, Caitlyn and Jayce ate tea cookies to shrink down, matching Vi's height of approximately three inches. Viktor was the only one to remain his regular size, parading behind them with his tail held high.
The flowers were rather rude, all debating the various types of foliage that the ensemble could be (Jayce was rather put off being diagnosed as a rabbit succulent: "I'm a hare, for God's sake, it's different.").
The Caterpillar was still sitting on his large mushroom, hookah in hand. As they approached, his fuzzy blue mustache lifted in a smile. "Ah, and who are you?"
"You know us, Heimerdinger," Caitlyn said, cutting straight to the point. "We need to talk."
Lux frowned at the name: something about it was oddly familiar, like a name she had read once in a paper and had a solid chuckle over. Jayce noticed her expression, and whispered, "Dean Heimerdinger. He runs the university that Viktor and I go to."
"Well well," said Heimerdinger the Caterpillar, indignantly placing all sets of hands on his long body. "Aren't we all business, Hatter."
"This is Lux," and Caitlyn brought her forward.
"Ah, so I've heard." He peered at her through his monocle. "The Queen of Diamonds herself."
Lux, embarrassed, smoothed out her patterned skirt. Last night, the title had felt so important. Now it felt like a curse, trapping her like everyone else. "Your blue-ness," and she curtsied. "I... I followed your advice. I went to the cellar."
"And?"
Lux relayed her experience once more, while Heimderdinger listened, throwing in the occasional sympathetic nod. She finished by saying, "And I'm just rather confused, that's all. No one seems to be able to tell me what's really going on here."
He took a great puff of the hookah, the smoke billowing above his head in concentric rings. "I do apologize, my dear," he sighed. "The curse prevents us from speaking about it in plain terms. We discovered, far too late, that the only way around it is if we tell the story through rhyme."
Rhyme. Of all the characters in Underland, she realized that Heimderdinger and Vander Lane had been the only ones who rhymed. "I see."
"Therefore I was charged with composing the tale." The corner of Heimerdinger's mustache twitched. "Not to brag, my dear, but I am quite the poet."
The group guided Lux to a soft mushroom to sit, all gathering around her as Heimerdinger took another long toke from his hookah. This time when the smoke rose, it shaped itself into images, first a large figure, whom Lux recognized as Vander Lane the ghost-man.
"Vander Lane was once a fighter Who led a revolution. But faced with the cost of war He sought out retribution."
The smoke shifted and changed shape, splitting to create four new figures.
"He took four children for his own Their families torn apart, Gave them food and hearth and home And all the love in his heart."
The figures became more distinct, and Lux followed along as each was introduced.
"The oldest was named Violet, The lead role of the cast. The boys were Mylo and Claggor And blue-haired Powder was the last.
The older three adventured And tangled in many a fight Young Powder would wait at home Until they returned each night
Powder wanted to join her siblings As they all ran amok But the boys didn't want her joining See, Powder had bad luck
Violet, though, protested And brought Powder along with them And during one of these raids Powder found a glowing gem."
The smoke children obeyed the stanzas. Powder's shape held a small light in her hand.
"She had no idea what she'd found Of course she couldn't know That magic was sitting in her palm Gave the gem that eerie glow
Powder had an inventor's mind So she tested the gem til, at last, The gem responded to her With a terrible... fiery blast."
The smoke figures exploded in a huff of air, startling Lux. Her jaw dropped at the hazy carnage, Powder standing small and alone at the center.
"The blast killed her father Vander And her brothers died as well. Violet was blamed for the murders And sent off to a prison cell."
Lux let out small gasps with each horrible line. So that was how Vander the ghost-man died. And his sons... She shuddered.
Heimerdinger continued, solemn,
"Powder, alone now, was taken in By her father's greatest foe. He was called Silco the industrialist And he loved dear Powder so."
The figure of a thin man leaned down and embraced the smoke-child.
"Years passed under his care And Powder's curiosity only grew She kept studying the gem Whose magic studied her, too."
As Heimderdinger went on, a now grown Powder leaned over a desk, fingers brushing tendrils of light that emanated from the glowing orb.
"You see, magic lives and breathes And consumes what it can find Dear Powder was the perfect meal Because of her curious mind.
Silco saw the toll on his daughter The madness starting to spread And decided to separate her "You'll be sent abroad," he said."
The Powder figure hurled a tea tray, and Lux flinched instinctively. It reminded her too much of...
"Now Powder didn't like this, She refused to leave her endeavor, So even though she was sent away She returned, obsessed as ever."
Silco brought her to the station And begged her to go back But Powder cried and shoved him And he fell on the railroad track."
The scene obeyed. Silco's thin frame crumpled beneath the platform, a bright light approaching, Powder watching helplessly above.
"She ought to help him up, she thought But Powder froze instead. The train was coming, too fast to stop And when it did Silco lost his head."
Lux clapped her hand over her mouth, squeezing her eyes shut just before the smoke-train reached Silco's body. When she opened them, the smoke-train had disappeared, leaving only a small, hunched over Powder.
"She'd lost her fathers and brothers And sister all in kind So then she lost the only thing She had left to lose: her mind."
Smoke Powder screamed, light cracking from inside her chest, consuming her.
"Her grief mixed with the magic And took a terrible toll Created a world from her childhood Where she could be in control.
And to protect those that she loved, She brought each to her domain And trapped them here to keep them From ever feeling pain."
Lux waited for more, but Heimerdinger simply took one long toke of his hookah, meeting her eyes sadly.
She realized they were all watching her, Caitlyn, Jayce... Vi.
Lux approached Vi slowly and took her paws in her hands: Vi's head was bowed in shame and sorrow. "Violet," Lux breathed. "You're Violet, Vander's daughter." Tears welled up in her eyes. "And Powder..."
They were all silent, unmoving. Lux saw them, then, the horror of what their lives had become. Swallowed in the grief of one lost child, forced into madness against their will.
The gravity of the situation was overwhelming, dragging her down into hopelessness. What possible way could they escape? And even if they could find a way, would the Queen... Powder, even let them?
But she had to try.
Lux squared her shoulders, gathered her courage. "Our croquet game never ended," she said firmly. "I never lost to the Queen."
The group exchanged glances, unsure what she was getting at.
"Viktor," and Lux went to him, pressing her tiny face against his forehead. "Go to the Queen. Tell her to meet me at the chessboard battlefield at sunset."
"Sunset?" asked Caitlyn. "You really think she'd let it be night again?"
"She will," Lux said. "For me." She kissed Viktor's nose. "Go."
He purred, loudly, then disappeared.
❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢ ❤︎ ♢
Lux spent the rest of the afternoon alone, exploring the chessboard battlefield. What had looked like castle ruins from above, she saw now were incomplete structures, pillars and floors that lay cut off at jagged angles. She first climbed through the maroon ruins, intended for the Red Queen's domain, then the white marble of the White Queen's. The latter was more polished, and she found stairs that led to a platform, likely what was meant to be a tower.
Lux took a seat there, watching the sky. She had been so confident in front of the others, but the truth was that she had no idea what would happen. After the cellar incident, Jinx might change her mind entirely, decide that she was too much of a liability. She could always transform Lux into something else, perhaps the duchess's pig-baby or the mock turtle.
She waited. There was no looking at the sun, of course, which made it difficult to tell if it was moving at all. So Lux looked at the shadows instead, marking in the dust the height of one half-formed pillar. After what felt like an appropriate time, she checked again, and saw with a mixture of delight and fear that the shadow had lengthened.
The horizon grew orange. The sun dipped, slowly, casting the clouds in hues of gold.
The air shifted, and Lux said aloud, "It really is beautiful."
There was a moment of stillness, before footsteps scuffed behind her, skirts shuffling as the person sat.
Lux turned to face her Queen. Jinx looked horrid, dark eye makeup dried in running streams down her cheeks. Her braids, which had kept so tidy, now puffed and tried to escape their binds. Even her small crown had grown, circling the entirety of her head, the spikes elongated higher.
They gazed at each other, neither speaking. The sun finished setting behind Lux, the shadows dissolving. The twilight sky was lavender above them.
"What do you want?" Jinx said finally.
Lux reached a hand out to her. "I wanted to see you."
"You want something." Her voice was venom. "If all you wanted was to see me, you would have come to the castle."
"Under the circumstances," Lux murmured. "I was quite nervous about returning to the castle. I thought you might chop my head off."
Jinx flinched. "I still might."
"If that were true, you would have tried it already."
She reminded Lux of a snared rabbit, shifting constantly, eyes wide. "You want something," she spat. "I can feel it."
"You're right," Lux admitted. "We... we never finished our game."
"So that's it?" she said, disbelieving. "That's what you want, croquet?" Her lips curled into a sneer, "You know I was winning, right? You'd be trapped here either way."
"So be it," said Lux solemnly. At that, Jinx stilled, her eyebrow cocked in curiosity. Lux had seized her attention. "I want to play a new game, with different stakes."
"... What stakes?"
"If you win, this all stays the same. I'll come live with you in the castle, be your Queen of Diamonds. The sun will never set again, we'll never sleep or dream, and we can live here forever in bliss."
Jinx's eyes widened just slightly, hopeful, before she remembered herself and narrowed them. "And if you win?"
"Then you let us go," Lux whispered. "All of us return to the real world... you included."
She scoffed, which was the reaction Lux expected. Jinx rose to her feet and began to pace back and forth, arms folded across her chest. "I'll never leave Underland."
"You must, Jinx." Lux stood, too, but kept her distance. "One day, you must return."
"No!" The shout echoed off the stone. "I can't. I can't go back." She ran her hands along her arms, pacing faster. "You don't know what I've done, Lux. Back there, I'm a monster. I've hurt people, I've kill-" Her voice caught on the last word and broke. She covered her mouth with her hand, squeezing her eyes shut.
"I know," said Lux, approaching her slowly, like one might approach a wild animal. "I know what happened. And I know it was an accident."
"No, it wasn't! I- I did that to him, it was my fault!" Jinx faced her, her braids whipping forward. "I was the one who- I'll never let that happen again. I'll never let anyone get hurt because of me."
"But Jinx, you can't keep them trapped here."
"They're not trapped! I'm saving them." She snapped her fingers, creating a silver dagger and stabbing it into her abdomen. Lux cried out, but saw that Jinx was completely unharmed, the dagger dissolving into dust. "See? Nothing can hurt them here. Everyone is safe. Everyone is alive."
"But is it really living," asked Lux. "Or is it just... not dying?"
"I'm protecting them!"
"From what?"
"From everything!" Her shoulders heaved as she glared at Lux. "You... you can't take them. The world out there is evil, and wrong. Here, they can't get hurt, can't go hungry."
The night darkened around them, the stars winking above.
"But what is the good of a full belly all the time if you can never know hunger?" Lux murmured. "Why drink tea if you never feel thirst, or feel grateful for a sound body if you can never be in pain?"
She was closer to Jinx now, who took a small step back. But Lux kept walking towards her, saying, "If the night never comes, then how can you know the beauty of the moon and the stars? Without the unknown, how can you feel fear, and without fear, how do you find courage?" Lux took her shaking hands, drawing them to her. "Without sleep, how can you dream?"
"But all I have are nightmares," Jinx choked out, avoiding her gaze.
"Nightmares are still dreams," Lux said, pressing her lips to Jinx's knuckles. "Like it or not, they are a part of you, and denying them is denying yourself, Jinx." And then, quieter, she whispered, "Powder."
Jinx tensed beneath her. "Don't."
Lux obeyed, and murmured, "If you cannot die, then how can you live?"
Her pink eyes gazed mournfully at Lux, filling with tears. "They died. All of them. I lost them all."
"I know. I'm sorry."
She looked so small then. It was hard to believe that much grief could fit inside such a small person. "My fathers... my brothers..."
"You still have a sister," Lux said gently. "And she loves you. Despite everything, she loves you, and she always will. And Ekko loves you too. He just wants you to be happy again. Not happy like this, where you pretend everything is fine, but truly happy, once you've let your grief in and allowed yourself to feel it." She kissed her knuckles again. "Both Viktor and Heimerdinger adore you: they think you're brilliant. And I'm sure in time, Jayce and Caitlyn will love you too."
"They won't forgive me," Jinx said in a shuddering breath. "How could they after all this."
"You'll never know if you don't let them go."
The twilight had given way to darkness. The moon, still in it's crescent shape, smiled down upon them. Crickets chirped in the grass and at the edge of the forest, fireflies had begun their twinkling dance.
Jinx lowered her forehead onto Lux's shoulder, wrapping her arms around her waist. They stood linked for a long time, breathing each other in, enjoying each other's warmth.
"There's one last thing," Jinx said, sniffling. "That I want to show you." She stepped back, gazed into the dark. Her pink eyes glowed, brighter and brighter, and her fingers sparked when she snapped.
The platform groaned beneath them, the loose stones around rumbling into place. The pillars rose, the marble forming into branches that held up a domed glass ceiling. The circular room surrounded them, furniture appearing along the rising curved walls.
Lux blinked and the room was complete. She gasped at the sight of a large, rectangular object against one side. "A bed," she said, delighted.
Sweat beaded on Jinx's forehead from the effort, and she wiped it away. "The first, and last, of it's kind."
The tension of the moment released, slowly. Lux took note of Jinx's obvious exhaustion, as well as her own. Now, with the comfort of the room spread around them, Lux wanted so badly to leap onto the rich blue duvet, to drag Jinx down with her, kiss her senseless. But she was frozen in place, still uncertain.
Jinx hesitated, then reached for her hand, entwining fingers. "Tomorrow, we'll finish the game. But for tonight, maybe we can just... be?"
Lux smiled, relieved, and kissed Jinx, softly, cradling her jaw.
They were gentle with each other at first, Jinx afraid of being too rough, Lux afraid of provoking her. The trust returned slowly, one kiss, one sigh at a time. Lux tugged on one of Jinx's gloves, careful in removing it, and when Jinx allowed this, Lux removed the other, then massaged the skin that had been covered by the fabric.
Lux's fingers drifted to the corset at Jinx's chest, undoing the ribbon there languidly, taking her time to loosen the cloth. Soon, the dress was pooled around Jinx's feet, leaving only the black chemise.
As Lux made to remove the chemise, Jinx's fingers snatched her wrists, and for a moment, Lux feared she had gone too far. But instead, Jinx simply murmured, "Turn around so I can undo yours."
When Jinx's fingers found the dress's top button, Lux flinched. She forced herself to calm down, to allow Jinx to undo the buttons, one by one, until the dress fell from her hips. Unlike Jinx, she was only wearing a slip underneath, her chest bare. They faced each other and shared another kiss, then another, each one growing in hunger. Jinx's fingers undid the slip's ribbon, and Lux shivered when she was naked. The fear gave way to desire, her pulse quickening at the thought of being undone again.
"Lay down," Jinx whispered, and Lux obeyed, sprawling on the great duvet.
Jinx kissed both of her ankles, then her calves, climbing up to her thighs.
"Wh-what are you doing?" Lux asked breathlessly, feeling intimidated. She found herself wishing that she had spent more time researching the art of lovemaking, as Jinx appeared to be more learned than her.
But when Jinx met her eyes, she saw doubt there. "I... I read it in a book once." Lux frowned. "What book?"
A sly smirk tilted Jinx's lips, which pressed against Lux's inner thigh. "One I shouldn't have been reading."
Lux's playful scoff was interrupted by a sharp gasp, her hips bucking towards Jinx's open mouth.
The sensation was unlike anything Lux had ever experienced, bringing her so much pleasure that she felt guilty: surely something that could bring her this close to heaven must be a sin. She cried out in mere seconds, shuddering against Jinx's tongue, and yet Jinx seized her thighs and kept her from pulling away, intent on taking her over the edge again and again.
"I'm sorry," Jinx moaned, muffled against her center, flicking her tongue in between repeats of, "I'm sorry."
When Lux could bear it no longer, her legs trembling so violently that she feared she would fall apart, she finally forced Jinx away. Lux propped herself up on her elbows, breath coming raggedly as she returned from the height of ecstasy.
Jinx shot her a wicked grin from between her thighs, her chin wet with glisten. She licked her lips, humming in lewd satisfaction.
Lux gasped, "You must allow me to borrow that book."
Jinx laughed, a high cackle that made her sound like a schoolgirl. Lux adored that laugh, adored how it revealed her as the young woman she really was, not the mad queen she was pretending to be.
She pulled Jinx close, kissing her fiercely, not out of lust, but out of devotion. Any doubts Lux had were gone. She knew without any hint of hesitation that regardless of the next day's outcome, the two of them would always be together from then on. She knew this because there was no other path, no other option. Lux could not let her go and never would, even if it meant damning herself to magic and madness.
Because Jinx was worth damnation.
Lux returned the favor, over and over, greedily discovering every sound, every mewl she could illicit from her queen. She licked and sucked and even scraped her teeth against her once, treasuring Jinx's keen. Lux made Jinx hers again and again, her claim assured by every moan, every hiss of desire.
Complete satisfaction never came: after every short rest between heights, fingers would wander, followed by lips, and the two would be entwined again, bringing each other more pleasure than either had been allowed all their lives.
"My queen," Lux sighed against Jinx's bare shoulder.
"My queen," Jinx chuckled into Lux's neck.
They escaped for one night, indulged in the fantasy, lived in a world where there was only the two of them, the massive bed beneath and the grinning moon above.

Fanfic Appreciation [Meme?]
"FANFIC APPRECIATION MEME
Post recommendations for your ten favourite fanfics and tag the authors if possible. Tell us what you like about their work.
Tag five people of your choice to do the meme too."
I was tagged by @heroinejinx
Tagging all authors mentioned here and whoever sees this.
I did 15 because no one is the boss of me and I wanted to mention them all.
Lightcannon (Jinx/Lux aka my otp)
100 Beautiful and Ugly Words by elocuentelegance on Ao3 - This one got me addicted to Lightcannon as a ship. No happy ending, no end. But it's still so well written and satisfying to read in a sort of masochistic way.
Friction Coefficient by @blood-lich-crow - College AU, bad girl/good girl enemies to lovers. The descriptions and inner dialogues of the characters as well as their interactions, angst, and chemistry are so good. Plus there's a smutty side fic.
I Am the Thing with the Teeth that Lives in the Walls by @questionablecuttlefish - Gothic Horror with a scary haunted mansion and lesbians? Hell yes.
Love has all the Answers by TieDyeKing on Ao3 - Just a cute Modern AU in which Jinx and Lux are both SO into each other but just so oblivious and it's honestly adorable.
A Piltover Student in Demacia by @natdammit - I never got around to reading the CaitVi-centric part but this was so absolutely perfect. Powder is such a brave and crazy genius like she should've gotten the chance to be and she and Lux are so perfect together there is so much world-building and an amazing plot.
My Obsession, a Yandere's Tale by @cannibalelf - Sort of a Smut Crackfic, it's some of the most fun and hottest things I've ever read. Told from Lux's POV, a totally obsessed horny bastard. They also have soft moments sometimes.
Piltover's Prep Bullying Problem by Tanis_Zed on Ao3 - Another smut crackfic with Lux as a complete sub-masochist and Jinx as a bad bitch with anger management issues who's actually a softie. Good stuff.
A Bad Night by Vixie on Ao3 - Very kinky breathplay but it's honestly kind of sweet.
Lightcannon, but Star Guardians:
Don't Lose My Number by StarCola on Ao3 - A literal SG classic, the attention to detail on the formatting and also the characterization and storytelling through the chatroom medium are stunning.
Crossing Stars by @calchexxis - I think this is a work of art, like all of their works honestly. But I think this one isn't as talked about and it's so amazing... It has action, drama, mystery, feels, angst, it's so good... oh, not to mention four words: 'In every single dream.'
Leaving Safe Places by @ghostcairo173 - Very sweet first part, and then the second one hits you with the angst and scary vibe. They are just so cute together and I adore the way the friends-to-lovers is depicted.
Birds and Boats by @mira-blue - The first SG LC I read. It's very cute and the characters feel so real, love it so much.
Oroborus by @kattypixxhu - This is honestly just such a poetic and emotional smut piece I was obsessed when I read it.
Special CaitVi Mention:
Butterflies don't Belong in Zoos by AmberZ10 on Ao3 - Modern Popstar AU, it kinda inspired my B.I.G. Feelings fic with Jinx's characterization. The way it incorporates songs is brilliant, and the plot is very compelling.
Special CaitJinx Mention:
'A proper drink' by @heroinejinx - It doesn't feel so much like a crackship when I read this, they make so much sense, and they're so cute together. I love the angst and the guilt they both feel and how still that doesn't stop them, it's just perfect. Makes me wanna read more CaitJinx heh.

Beat the Daylight
Sequel to Face the Noise, an Arcane Rock Band AU
Rating: M
Chapter 13: The Pub Part 3
Summary: Progress Day celebrates their victory in The Lanes || Lux and Jinx have their own celebration in Zaun
CW: Alcohol
This work is available here on AO3. Chapter 1 Chapter 2 Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12
True to his word, Vander had shooed away his regular clientele, hanging the rarely if ever used ‘Private Party’ sign on the wooden front door. The tables and chairs were stacked neatly, except for a few by the bar where their growing family could all fit. The TVs were off, though apparently the entire pub had been watching the contest rounds: when Progress Day won, they had all cheered and stomped their feet, making such a noise that Vander was afraid they’d break something.
Vi, Caitlyn, and Ekko were the first to arrive. Vander embraced them all, leaving Vi for last and holding her the longest. “I’m so proud of you,” he rumbled. “So proud.”
“Thanks, Dad.” When Vi pulled back, her eyes were damp.
“Where’s the rest of the band?” Vander asked. “I was looking forward to congratulating your lead guitarist. Quite the pipes on her.”
Vi exchanged glances with Caitlyn. “She uh… had something else to do tonight.”
Caitlyn added, “We’ll be sure to pass along your praise though.”
“And Jayce is on his way,” Ekko said, reading his phone messages. “I um… I also invited Zeri?” He gave Vander a hopeful look. “Is that okay?”
“Zeri? Ohh, from the opening band. Sure, I don’t see why not.”
They heard clanging sounds from the kitchen. Benzo, Vander explained, doing the dishes. Then he poured everyone a drink while they waited, asking questions about their band practices and methods.
The door opened, and in walked Senator Mel Medarda, with Jayce in tow.
As soon as they entered, Benzo’s voice resounded off the walls. “There she is!”
Ekko winced at the sound. “Dad, don’t-”
But he was powerless to stop Benzo as he barrelled towards Mel, sweeping her into an enormous hug.
The rest of the room held their breath as the senator was swung around. They were all shocked that Benzo would do such a thing, but even more shocked when Mel laughed. A real, genuine laugh, the way a child laughs when greeted by an overenthusiastic relative.
“Let go!” she giggled. “Set me down, you great thing.”
Caitlyn could tell from the polite wince on Mel’s face that Benzo already reeked of alcohol. He kept a large hand on her shoulders. “Come, let’s get you a drink.”
“Senator Mel Medarda.” Vander’s words were more of a muse than a greeting. “In the flesh. What can I get for you?”
“Ah, this must be the great Vander,” Mel said, ignoring his question. “I’ve heard much about you.”
“All bad, I hope.” He eyed her as she approached the bar. “Let me see… I know.” He moved to retrieve it. Though Vander was an extremely talented musician, his greatest skill was the ability to identify anyone’s favorite kind of drink just by looking at them. Tonight seemed to be no exception when he pulled out a mid-tier bottle of gin, holding it up to display for her.
Mel grinned. “Well done.”
He started pouring a drink for her, adding tonic water. “Welcome to The Last Drop, Senator.”
“Thank you.” She accepted the glass gracefully and toasted him. “And congratulations on the success of your daughters.” The air stilled. Mel immediately recognized her misstep, and said, “Th-that is-”
“It’s alright.” Vander raised his own glass. “Thank you. I’m very proud of them both.”
Clink. Ekko took a seat beside Mel at the bar. “Did you watch us?” he asked, eager.
“Of course, I always watch.” She put an affectionate hand on his shoulder. “Congratulations, Boy Savior.”
Jayce went to sit in the seat beside Mel, but Benzo beat him to it. He lingered at the edge of the group, and Caitlyn joined him there.
“Good job, Talis,” Caitlyn said wryly. “Didn’t think you could pull it off.”
He smiled and shook his head at her pestering. “Please, it was easy. I could drum in my sleep.”
“Well, maybe you should. You might be better at it.”
“Hey!” he laughed, jabbing her with an elbow.
The door opened again, and this time, Zeri entered. Her oversized coat nearly swallowed her, her sharp eyes darting around the room. Ekko contained his excitement, but barely, as he swaggered up to her, hands in his pockets, and gave a casual, “Sup. Glad you could make it.”
“Wouldn’t miss it for the world,” Zeri said with a smirk.
Ekko breezed through introductions: Caitlyn and Jayce just gave a simple greeting and wave as Ekko nearly dragged her to the bar to meet the rest of the group. Soon, they were all lost in conversation, swapping band stories, while Caitlyn and Jayce chose to remain on the outside.
“I um,” Caitlyn wasn’t sure where to start. She hadn’t checked in with him for so long. “I meant to ask, how are you doing?”
His expression turned quizzical. “Uh… fine?”
She could tell, though, up close. She knew him for far too long to not know when he was putting on airs. But it hurt to see how good he was at it now, how long he’d been wearing that mask. And the fact that he would try wearing it around her. Of course, she didn’t want him to dissolve into tears tonight, not when he was supposed to be celebrating.
“We should catch up,” Caitlyn said, though it was more of a command than a suggestion. “Get coffee.”
“Sure.” Ekko passed Jayce’s drink to him from the bar: an old fashioned, per usual. Jayce sipped at it, smiling to himself. “You know, I’ve been to a couple different bars in Piltover. Viktor even took me to one or two on the outskirts of Zaun. But Vander’s old fashioneds are the best ones by far.”
Caitlyn was more of a wine drinker herself, but she understood the sentiment. At hearing Viktor’s name, she cocked an eyebrow. “Have you… spoken to him? Viktor?”
Jayce’s broad shoulders drooped, just ever so slightly. “Not really. I send him funny pictures sometimes, but he doesn’t really respond. Not that he ever responded before, but…” He lowered his voice. “You’ve spoken to him, right? For the investigation?”
The rest of the family was too engrossed in storytelling to overhear, so Caitlyn felt comfortable enough to say, “Yes. There’s been a few roadblocks, though. The band takes up a lot of his time.”
“Is he… okay? Like, is he happy?”
The mask had slipped, if not fallen off entirely. He was like a puppy with those big, brown eyes. Caitlyn felt a twinge of guilt on Mel’s behalf: she knew firsthand how emotional Jayce could be during a break up. Especially since she had been there for every other one.
She answered, “He is. He asked about you.” Technically, that was true, even if Viktor only ever asked once. Of course, he was much more offhand, and only offered a cool “Hmm. Good.” when Caitlyn told him. Though she had never been able to guess Viktor’s inner feelings. Jayce’s externality was so much easier to analyze.
He nodded, reassured, though the sadness was still there. Caitlyn decided that when they got coffee, she would walk him to the playground, let him open up there. But for now…
“Buck up, Talis,” she said with a wink. “You’re having fun tonight, whether you like it or not. Come on.” Caitlyn led him to the rest of the group, where Benzo was pointing at Vander.
“You know,” said Benzo. “Vander’s the one who taught them all.”
“That’s right,” Mel said. “I’ve heard you’re quite the musician, Vander.”
Zeri asked, “Really? Will you play for us?”
Vi and Ekko both gasped, then started pleading. “Yeah!”
He took some serious convincing, but eventually gave in. They relocated the party to the basement, where Vander removed his bass from storage. Jayce and Ekko made quick work of setting up Benzo’s drum set and the keyboard, piecing everything together while Vi tuned the electric guitar. Zeri, Mel, and Caitlyn took their seats at a nearby table, Jayce joining them once the band was ready.
Vander and Benzo definitely needed a few songs to warm up, but once they started going, they couldn’t stop. Vander’s voice was slightly hoarse from age, but he still hit all the high notes. They played classic rock, songs that most if not all of them knew.
Every now and then, Benzo would hand off the sticks to Jayce, or Vi and Vander would switch instruments. Even Zeri sang a few songs, hopped behind the keys with Ekko. They asked Caitlyn and Mel over and over again to sing on the mic, but neither wanted to, both self aware and secure enough to recognize their lack of skill.
Between songs, Vi sipped from her whiskey neat. Which is how she ended up much drunker than the rest of them, and eventually staggered to the mic and said, a little too loudly, “I wanna sing one!”
Vander nodded to Ekko, who got her a glass of water. “Which one, Vi?”
She drank deeply, then whispered it to the rest of the band. They exchanged sly grins as Vi returned to the mic, her attention directed at Caitlyn. “This song… is for my girl.”
The rest of the table giggled at the dramatics of it. Zeri was sitting in her chair backwards, straddling the seat. Jayce and Mel began the night sitting apart, but had slowly gravitated closer together. Now, Mel’s legs were resting across his lap, his hand on her thigh.
Vi shouted into the mic, “1, 2, 3, 4!”
Can't count the years on one hand That we've been together
Caitlyn, amused, called out over the noise, “You very much can.”
Vi kept going. Throughout the verse, she started sauntering towards Caitlyn.
I need the other one to hold you Make you feel, make you feel better It's not a walk in the park To love each other But when our fingers interlock Can't deny, can't deny you're worth it
Now Vi was standing right in front of her. She placed her fingers delicately under Caitlyn’s chin, voice sweet.
'Cause after all this time, I'm still into you
Caitlyn leaned up to kiss her, but Vi pulled away at the last second, smirking. She sang the chorus, jumping in time to the beat as Ekko sang backup vocals.
I should be over all the butterflies But I'm into you And baby even on our worst nights I'm into you Let 'em wonder how we got this far 'Cause I don't really need to wonder at all Yeah, after all this time, I'm still into you
When they finished the second chorus, Vi got close to Caitlyn again, swaying forward with each line of the bridge.
Well, some things just, some things just make sense And one of those is you and I Well, some things just, some things just make sense And even after all this time
Vi straddled her on the chair, pressing their foreheads together.
I'm into you Baby, not a day goes by
Her volume started raising, and Caitlyn’s grin morphed into a wince as Vi sang passionately to her face,
That I'm not into you
On the last chorus, Vi leapt on top of the table, dancing as she finished out the song. Her thick boots scraped against the wood. Mel and Jayce leaned back, nervous, but Zeri whooped and cheered her on, pulling out her wallet and tossing crumpled dollar bills on the table. Benzo and Ekko laughed, but Vander was clearly concerned. As the last notes faded out, Caitlyn stood and held out her hand to guide Vi to the floor.
But instead, Vi threw her arms around Caitlyn and practically fell on top of her, kissing her as she did so. Caitlyn barely kept her balance, laughing against Vi’s mouth. She tasted of salt and whisky, her face slick with sweat. And Caitlyn wouldn’t have her any other way.
“Alright then,” Vander called, and they broke apart. “Vi, I think you should sit this next one out.”
And she did, with the caveat that Caitlyn sit on her lap. While Vi sobered up, the rest of them kept drinking, and eventually, Vander announced the last song. “Gotta get this old man to bed,” he added, nodding at Benzo.
“Who you calling old man?” Benzo slurred, pretending to throw a drumstick at Vander.
Zeri grabbed Mel and Caitlyn, insisting they sing the last one together despite their protests.
“Really, Zeri,” Mel said. “I’m quite tone deaf, I assure you.”
“I don’t care!” Zeri sang the words. “We’re all singing.” She whispered the song title to Vander, who grinned. He plucked out the opening notes, practicing a few times before he nodded at Benzo.
As soon as Vander played the opening hook, they all leapt to their feet, crowding around the microphone.
Coming out of my cage And I've been doing just fine Gotta gotta be down Because I want it all It started out with a kiss How did it end up like this? It was only a kiss, it was only a kiss
Mel was, in fact, tone deaf, Caitlyn had her usual tinniness, and Jayce was less than impressive, but their voices were joined in by the others. Ekko harmonized as Vi and Zeri took the lead, and as the chorus began, they all began to jump and dance in time with the music.
Jealousy, turning saints into the sea Swimming through sick lullabies Choking on your alibis But it's just the price I pay Destiny is calling me Open up my eager eyes 'Cause I'm Mr. Brightside
Soon, the microphone was abandoned, all of them spreading around the makeshift stage as they sang the next verse and chorus. Jayce twirled Mel around to the beat, Vi’s hands locked on Caitlyn’s waist. Even Zeri and Ekko held hands as they danced together. And when the bridge came, they all screamed out the final words to the song.
I never I never I never! I never!
As the song faded out, Vi put her hands under Caitlyn’s thighs and lifted her up. Caitlyn wrapped her legs around her waist and kissed her again. The way she kissed her their first time, here in this very basement. Everything else faded out, the cheers of the group, their embraces. All that existed was Vi, her silver eyes, warmer than Caitlyn had seen them in years.
As she was lowered to the floor, Caitlyn took a moment to step back, really take it all in. They were all so happy. Wonderfully, deliriously happy.
She wished the entire band was here. She hoped that Ezreal and Lux were at least okay, regardless of how the evening played out. And maybe it was her talks with Viktor, maybe it was her proximity to this family.
But she really, truly hoped that Jinx was happy.
                                                         ☆ ☆ ☆
That poor chauffeur. But after the first three clubs, Jinx was starting to get too tipsy to feel bad. At least Silco would pay him well, especially for taking care of his star by driving her around for hours. Or maybe Jinx would push it to days. Maybe the night would never end, and Lux would belong to her forever.
And what a belonging she was. What a bright, beautiful creature to have on her arm. Jinx never used to socialize at the clubs, much less with other celebrities, but she couldn’t resist showing her off. And Lux acclimated well: extremely well. She connected with everyone, asked questions, told stories. And just when people were getting too close to her, just when they began to show a real, intentioned interest, Jinx pulled her away. And Lux let her, gladly. Because Lux was hers tonight.
Jinx kept a hand on her at all times. Her waist, her hand, her shoulder. She claimed every inch that she could, fingers trailing down the shimmery fabric. On Jinx, the dress came down to just above her knee, and had always been too bright and attention-grabbing for her taste. But on Lux, the dress stopped neatly on her upper thigh, barely concealing everything. She did wear a pair of Jinx’s boy shorts underneath, though, since it made her more comfortable. Completed by the white fishnets that laced themselves up Lux’s long legs, the entire outfit made Jinx’s mouth water.
She kept herself under control, though. At each club, she spaced it out: take a shot, socialize, get a drink, dance. The dancing was the best part. And that’s when Jinx would almost lose control.
Jinx had always been graceful, her body moving like water. At first, Lux was stiff, awkward on the dancefloor. After a few drinks, after a few sloppy makeout sessions in the alley, she started figuring it out. She even studied the other dancers, copied the girls who pressed their asses against their partner’s hips.
And that’s what really drove Jinx wild. That’s what caused Jinx to drag her to the bathroom, to shove her up against the wall of the stall, not even bothering to lock the door as she kissed her roughly.
Lux matched her energy, tugging at Jinx’s own dress, pulling off her pinstripe blazer.
Jinx’s hands were everywhere: her back, her arms, her hips, her thighs. Her lips seized the skin around Lux’s neck, sucking each sensitive spot and leaving a mark. She palmed Lux’s chest, and Lux gasped softly. Her fingers went beneath the pad of her strapless bra, pressing against and around her nipples.
Out of the corner of her eye, Jinx saw the stall door slowly swing open towards them. She didn’t let up, just kept kissing Lux while her boot slammed against the plastic, holding it shut. She thought she saw a sparkly gasp and a flash of pink hair, but maybe she imagined it.
Lux started at the sound, and it seemed to rattle her back to reality. “W-wait, Jinx-”
Jinx didn’t want to stop. She knew she had to, but allowed herself one more smatter of small kisses before she pulled back, panting. “What?”
“We-we shouldn’t do this.”
A chill ran down Jinx’s spine. No, no. Was she having second thoughts? “We shouldn’t… do what?”
“Oh, I mean, we can do this,” Lux said, realizing how it may have sounded. “Trust me, I definitely want to do this, I just don’t want to do this… here.” She nodded towards the toilet, the names and swear words scrawled on the walls.
Yeah, it was definitely a less than sexy location. “Hotel?” she asked in a breath.
Lux nodded, stealing another kiss before they left.
They managed to control themselves in the car, though Jinx sat as close as possible, hand on her thigh.
When they entered Jinx’s bedroom, Lux shook out her hair, stretching. “Man, that was fun. I’ve never gone out dancing before. Such good exercise.” She surveyed the room, the wide windows overlooking Zaun, the large bed, the light spilling from the bathroom. The hotel’s housekeepers had been surprised at Jinx’s growing level of cleanliness over the last few weeks, compared to her usual mess. Nowadays, they actually dared to step foot in the room and tidy up, which Jinx had never been so grateful for. “Can I use your shower?” Lux asked. “I’m stinky.”
Jinx came up behind her and pressed her lips to a newly bloomed hickey on Lux’s shoulder. “What if I like the way you stink?”
“You know, you could join me.”
Jinx hadn’t bathed with anyone since she was a child. The idea seemed… vulnerable. Really fucking vulnerable. Way more vulnerable than just sex. At least if they were intertwined, Jinx could hide the ugly parts of her body, the parts she didn’t want her to see.
But as soon as Lux saw the big tub in Jinx’s bathroom, her mind was set on it. “Okay, nevermind. We’re taking a bath.”
Oh. This was worse. So much worse.
Lux undressed, grinning at Jinx as she slowly pulled the dress over her shoulders. She was still a little drunk: not sloppy, just tipsy. Jinx admired the clean lines of Lux’s back. She was so used to seeing tattoos.
“Come on,” Lux said, kicking off her heels. She took Jinx’s arm and guided her to the tub. “How do you turn it on?”
They figured it out together, and soon the water rose and steam filled the room. Jinx’s fingers toyed unsurely with her own clothes. Why was she so nervous?
Lux noticed her hesitation: she still wore her own undergarments, having just removed the white fishnets. “Do you want help?”
Jinx’s instinct was to bite, protect herself. “I don’t need help.”
But Lux was unfazed, just went to her, ran her hands down Jinx’s dress. “Mmm I think you do. Here.” She gently lifted the fabric, distracting Jinx with a kiss as she did so. She was careful to work around Jinx’s braids as she removed the dress, letting it pool on the floor. Then Lux focused on Jinx’s black fishnets, rolling the tights down her thighs. She trailed kisses down her skin as more of it was revealed. Soon, she was kneeling at Jinx’s feet, freeing them one at a time from the nylon.
Lux paused there, on her knees, as she came face to face with Jinx’s underwear. A blush spread across her cheeks, and Jinx thought it may have been because her boy shorts were covered in raccoons and had the words ‘trash panda’ all over them: she probably should have changed beforehand.
But Lux stood, slowly, and muttered, “S-sorry, I’ve never… Not with a… girl.”
Oh. Ohhhhh. “So that’s why you want to take a bath,” Jinx chuckled, entwining her fingers in Lux’s silky hair. “Wanna familiarize yourself with the territory first.”
Lux grinned shyly. “Yeah, survey the landscape.”
“Gotcha.” They kissed again, and this time, Jinx’s hands went to Lux’s bra. She unhooked it without looking, letting it fall to the floor. Lux shivered against the air, but Jinx covered her with warm hands. Her panties were soon to follow, and then Lux was naked. Fully naked. In Jinx’s bathroom.
Life was fucking amazing.
Jinx was so distracted by the sight of Lux’s body that she didn’t even realize she was also naked until the trash panda shorts flew across the room. Their hands wandered over each other’s bodies, exploring, until Lux murmured, “I think the bath is ready.”
As they submerged, facing each other, Jinx wondered why she had never thought to use the tub before. Showers just seemed more convenient. Not to mention dealing with her braids. Which were now drifting in the water. And now one was in Lux’s hands, and she was undoing it.
Knowing how monumental of a task it was, Jinx helped by undoing the other braid. Soon, her loose blue hair floated around them. Lux said, “Damn. You got a lot of hair.”
“Yeah.”
“Like, a LOT of hair.”
Jinx chuckled, “Yeah.”
They exchanged a few more kisses, hands searching for each other under the water. Lux pulled away and reached for a bar of soap and a loofah. “Here, turn around.”
Jinx obeyed. She managed to get most of her hair over one shoulder so Lux had room to scrub. The suds felt sinfully good against her skin. Lux said, “I love your tattoos.”
“Thanks.”
“Why clouds?”
To be honest, Jinx had never really thought about it before. Something about explosions, maybe. But she didn’t have a solid explanation, so she just shrugged. “You ever thought about getting tattoos, Starlight?”
“Mmm maybe. My mom hates the idea though.”
“What would you get? If you want them.”
The loofah disappeared as Lux considered. “Maybe stars. Or music notes. Or animals.”
“You could match your guitar.”
Lux giggled. “I could.” Then her hands were on Jinx’s shoulders, gentle but firm. Lux’s fingertips were calloused from years of guitar playing. Her thumbs pressed against the knot of muscle at the base of Jinx’s neck. They both gasped: Jinx in a pained pleasure, and Lux in surprise. “You’re so tense, Jinx.”
“I got a lot on my- ah. Mind.”
“Yeah… Can I ask you something?” She kept massaging Jinx’s shoulders as she spoke. It felt so good: Jinx wasn’t in a state to deny her anything.
“Sure.”
“What happened to your head?”
Fuck. In all the rapture, Jinx completely forgot about the wound on her temple. She was surprised Lux didn’t ask earlier: maybe she didn’t want to embarrass her. Maybe she was waiting for the right moment, when Jinx was totally and completely at her mercy. Like she was now.
When Jinx didn’t answer right away, Lux followed up with, “I-I mean, you don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to, but I didn’t remember you having it at the show.”
Jinx sighed. And she told her the entire story, how Finn lashed out, attacked both her and Viktor.
“He attacked you?” Lux asked, incredulous. “That’s awful. Are you going to press charges?” Jinx’s laugh echoed off the tile floor. It was enough of an answer for Lux, who then moved her hands from Jinx’s shoulders to her neck. “Are you okay?”
It was such an all encompassing question. There was no right answer. But Jinx reached back and kissed Lux’s knuckles, murmuring, “I’m better now.”
Lux’s fingers disappeared briefly, and when they came back, they were cold with shampoo. She massaged the soap into Jinx’s scalp. The sensation was heavenly.
They didn’t speak for a long moment, Jinx too lost in the pleasure to say anything coherent. No one had ever touched her like this, never put this amount of tenderness into her.
There were always thoughts skittering around Jinx’s mind. Even in her moments of greatest peace, they were still there, whispering. But now, her mind was empty. There was no more room for thought, only for feeling. And she felt incredible.
When Lux finished with the conditioner, she pulled back, lowering Jinx’s head back into her lap to wash out the product. Jinx gazed up at her from the water’s surface: she couldn’t stop smiling. She heard the gurgle of water, and realized Lux had unplugged the drain. “I didn’t take care of you, though,” Jinx protested.
“That’s alright,” Lux said, kissing her on the forehead. “You’ll get me next time.”
But Lux wasn’t done. She and Jinx toweled off, threw on matching black robes (provided by the hotel: both had a gold, embroidered eye on the back), then Lux sat her down at the tall, rarely used vanity, and combed out Jinx’s hair. Silco had specially ordered a chair tall enough so that Jinx’s braids were just above the floor, though she realized her hair must have grown since then, because now her locks rested solidly on the ground.
The combing was its own euphoria. Jinx had always just torn through her hair, not patient enough to deal with it. That was part of the appeal of braids: they were easy, and manageable. But Lux worked through every knot, every tangle.
When it was clear her hair was going to be a much larger and longer task, Lux started to sing. Softly, barely above a whisper.
Close your eyes and sleep Ignore all the burdens that you keep Come whatever may They could never harm you anyway
She vocalized in between the verses. The song was haunting and beautiful, the bathroom acoustics elevating the sound. Jinx closed her eyes, pretended she was a sailor and Lux was the siren pulling her in.
Waking from the dream Witnessing the smoke that's rolling in The end is what you fear The scent of embers lingers in the air
Lux finished with one braid, kissing Jinx’s non-wounded temple as she moved to start the next.
It's like a web There is no escape from It’s got you trapped And you long for freedom Every wish, every dream was granted Never knowing what they demanded
Lux stopped singing. Jinx sent her a questioning glance.
“S-sorry,” Lux said, sheepish. “I… forgot how intense that song gets.”
“I like it.”
Encouraged, Lux began to sing again. As the song came to a close, she finished the other braid.
Take your time but not too long Make it worth the time you own You woke a fire inside of me Fanned the flame and made it breathe You woke a fire inside of me Inside of me Inside of me...
Jinx stood and embraced Lux, holding her probably a little too tight. She wanted to thank her, truly and properly thank her for the amount of care she had shown her. Jinx had never felt so clean, so safe, so warm in her entire life. But words would fail. She could go on for hours and never fully express her gratitude.
So instead, she took Lux’s hands, kissing her calloused fingers. She felt a little guilty for roughing her up in the bathroom stall, now, especially after Lux had been so delicate and measured with her. “You know, we don’t… have to go all the way tonight.”
“No, I want to.” Lux rested her arms on Jinx’s shoulders, pressing the tips of their noses together. “I- I don’t know if we’ll get another one, so we should make it count.”
The words stung, even if they were true. Tomorrow was the last thing on Jinx’s mind, and she wanted it to stay that way. So she guided Lux to the massive bed, laying her down among the pillows, which now seemed like a ridiculous amount. To be fair, Jinx had rarely, if ever shared it with anyone.
In fact, the only affairs she had were quick, sloppy, usually fueled by a high. Jinx figured out quickly that those who ended up in her bed didn’t want to stay there. Mostly because she was a celebrity, and they just wanted the clout. Though, she did wonder if the myriad of bruises and bites she left all over them had something to do with it.
But with Lux, this wasn’t about that immediate satisfaction. They weren’t just having sex, they were… making love. Any other time, with any other person, Jinx would have been disgusted with the idea. But there was no other way to describe it.
She was gentle with Lux, since this was her first time. Sure, she sank in her teeth every now and then, unable to totally resist. But her fingers were light, working at her center. Lux let out the most delicious moans, at first shy about being heard, but forgetting all about it when she came the first time.
Lux trembled beneath Jinx’s touch, arching her back as she rode it out. There was not a drug on earth that was so immediately addicting to Jinx, as making Lux orgasm. And she hit that high again and again and again. Whether it was her hands or tongue that broke Lux open over and over, Jinx’s eyes were always glued to her face. The twist of her expression, the flush in her cheeks, her hands and legs shaking.
When Lux recovered each time, she would push against Jinx’s shoulders, insisting it was her turn to please her, but Jinx just held her down. She would hiss into Lux’s ear, fingernails scraping against Lux’s pinned wrists. “You’re mine tonight, Starlight. And I am going to make you cum as many times as I want.”
On orgasm…8? 9? Whatever. On one of her orgasms, Jinx was more intense, fingers working at a faster pace, teeth locked on Lux’s neck so that Lux’s gasps had a direct line into Jinx’s eager ear. Lux’s composure had been unwinding more and more with each climax, her words losing coherency and decency. The sounds that escaped from her now were a string of expletives.
“F-fuck, that feels- Ah! Damn, that feels so fucking good, Powder-”
Jinx jerked back, as if she had just been electrocuted. Lux, still breathless with pleasure, sat upright, horrified at herself. “Oh my god. Oh my god, I-I’m so sorry, Jinx, it was an accident, it just slipped out, I didn’t mean-”
She kept just saying words while Jinx processed it. She wasn’t… offended, just surprised. Sometimes, she forgot that Lux knew about that part of her life.
“It’s okay,” Jinx said, interrupting Lux’s strung out apology. “Really.” She crawled on top of her, trailing kisses down her neck. “It’s okay,” she murmured again, regaining her momentum.
This time when Lux wanted to switch, Jinx let her. If Lux hadn’t told her she had never been with a girl before, Jinx would never have believed it. Lux had her writhing with need in mere seconds, applying just the right amount of pressure. She liked dragging it out, delaying Jinx’s pleasure, seeing just how much begging she could elicit. Lux’s hands and tongue were precise and intentional. Jinx was a whimpering mess by the time she came.
After a few more rounds, the day's events began to wear on the two, and they ended up cuddling, entwined beneath the covers. Lux rested her head on Jinx’s shoulder, fingers tracing the cloud tattoos.
“Do you…” Jinx asked. “Do you want to call me that?”
“What?”
“Powder.”
Lux pulled back, trying to read her face. “Um… am I allowed to?”
Jinx shrugged. “Sure. As long as it’s just us, though.”
“... Okay.” Lux grinned, brushing her lips over Jinx’s skin. “Powder. Powder. I like that name more. Not-not that there’s anything wrong with ‘Jinx’, I mean that’s definitely a better stage name. But Powder is more normal, more… Well, not that ‘normal’ is better-”
She giggled: how could she not? “You’re good, Starlight, I know what you mean.”
A few moments passed. Jinx wondered what time it was. She couldn’t see daylight yet: maybe 4 AM? 5?
“Powder?” Lux asked. “Do you think… you’d ever go home?”
That was the million dollar question. Jinx answered as truthfully as she could. “I don’t know.”
“... They really miss you. And I’m not saying that to make you feel guilty or anything, because, you know, you’re an adult and your choices are valid and all that. But they miss you. I can tell they miss you, because when they talk about you… Well, obviously they didn’t talk about you until after I found out. And it took a while, but eventually Vi and Ekko opened up more.
“And then on girl’s night, when they were both pretty drunk, they told us all kinds of stories. Stories about growing up together, how you and Vi used to pretend you were monsters when you were really little. Ekko told us about all the graffiti you guys would do around town, though Caitlyn covered her ears during that part because she didn’t want to be an accomplice,” Lux giggled before continuing. “And they talked about the band you had, The Firelights. I actually listened to some of your songs the next day. I knew you were a drummer, but I didn’t realize how good you were.”
Jinx scoffed out a chuckle. “Way better than Talis.”
“Way better,” Lux agreed. And then she stopped. The room sounded so empty without the hum of her voice. “Why… Why haven’t you gone home?”
She knew the answer to that one. “Just like you said: they miss me. Except, they don’t miss ‘me’, they miss Powder. They want Powder back, just the way she was. But I’ve changed, Lux. I changed a lot. And if Jinx came home instead of Powder… I don’t know. I don’t know how they’d take it.”
Outside the window, Zaun’s neon lights thrummed. They could hear cars going by every now and then, the distant pulse of music.
Lux finally murmured, “I think… I’m gonna sleep.”
“Me too.” They snuggled in closer together. “Goodnight, Lux.”
Even as she said the words, she drifted off. “Goodnight… Powder…”
Lux was out. She was soon to follow.
And Powder slept.
