You told me you had Antasma headcanons. Go. Nuts. And tell me EVERYTHING!!!
Okay first of all : I think Antasma's potential is severely unexplored.
Granted, that's on me for expecting too much depth from a Mario villain. Still, it annoyed me that Antasma has such a cool design and concept...yet I was frustrated with how his comical "screeching bat with a Dracula accent" side was really played up despite being the main antagonist...
And then the betrayal. Again, it's a Mario game but even then, was I the only one frustrated by how obvious it was that Bowser wasn't going to share the victory with anyone ? It's presented as a surprise, but come on Antasma, even if Bowser was willing to share, you weren't exactly subtle with your manipulation.
Yet I love this character so much!! Onirism and nightmares are such fascinating themes and Antasma vs the Pi'ilo explores them, but it could have been pushed even further!!
In general I think Antasma's flaws are M&L: Dream Team's general flaws : amazing concept, but the story takes a lot of efforts to get to the interesting part and some of the jokes could have replaced by more interesting moments.
And it's interesting how it sometimes feels like Antasma and Dreambert have some kind of history; at least that's how I see all the moments where Dreambert tries to appeal to Antasma, and even how he pities him once Bowser turns on him...or maybe that's just me reading too much into details.
ANYWAY regarding Luigi and Antasma, I also have a LOT to tell about them :
I find it very, very interesting that even before any of the characters had any hints of Antasma & Dreambert, Luigi dreamed about him...and not just Antasma in his bat form, but in his most powerful one ! And it's never explained ! how did it happen ?? Did Antasma feel Luigi's "attunement" to the Dream World and try to exploit it ? Does Luigi has divination abilities ? We just don't know !
Another little frustration I have is that Antasma never pays any attention to Luigi...even if he's the key to fight him back. Without Luigi, Mario wouldn't be able to get to the Dream World, nor would he have enough power to fight the bat king. (Technically, Luigi is also responsible for Antasma's return, since he opened the first portal by taking a nap in the Pi'ilo castle...)
And it drives me insane ! But it makes sense at the same time, everyone always overlooks Luigi, except Mario, who knows his brother is the strongest ally he can count on! So while Mario isn't suprised one iota by it, their ennemies are always baffled by the brother's victories relying on Luigi.
But for real, all Bowser and Antasma had to do was to kidnap Luigi while he was asleep and either wake him up and force him to stay awak (and trap Mario in the Dream World), or keep him asleep but trigger effects by exposing him to elements that would slow Mario down...or just end his game. Like, the solution was there, guys.
Antasma's boss battle is my fave of the entire game because not only does his musical theme SLAP, he also has interesting moves...and he can PUT SOMEONE TO SLEEP IN THE DREAM WORLD!!! And he can CAPTURE DREAMY LUIGI !!!! Something that is NEVER done before this moment !! He changes the rules ! He rewrites the game !! How to not like it !!
But for an eventual AU where Antasma comes back, I have two very different ideas of how it could go :
Option A : the Redemption Road.
The battle left Antasma so weakened he barely survives in the Dream World. He doesn't even have enough energy to be angry anymore. He's just wasting away, waiting for his end. He doesn't recognize this part of the Dream World and doesn't care. He's dying, and for the first time, he's scared.
But what he doesn't know is that he's not trapped in the typical Dream World...but in Luigi's dreams. Luigi who has had strange dreams for weeks where he feels there's something with him whenever he dreams, but can't find it.
As his sleep gets worse and worse, he ends up returning to Pi'ilo Island, hoping to get help from Dreambert. Except the prince is currently away or too busy, which bums him a bit. Thankfully one of the Pi'ilo accepts to help him, or maybe he just finds a petrified one who hasn't been freed yet and despite not having Mario with him, he decides to try and rescue them by himself.
...Oh waaaaait. What if that petrified Pi'ilo is actually Antasma ?
So Luigi travels in the Dream World...and finds Antasma, curled on himself, pathetic and near death. A miserable little bat.
Who immediately jumps on his face and tries to feed off him.
What ensues is Luigi first panicking, but being too kind to just abandon someone in need, (not to mention he DOESN'T want Antasma stuck in his dreams anymore!!!) and being forced to cooperate with the bat king to free him.
Of course it's a long and frustrating road...and yet for once, Antasma isn't threatened or confronted or betrayed. He's lonely, and not used to kindness, and he ends up slowly warming up to this fool.
Option B : The Smart Villain Road
Antasma manages to survive and goes into hiding, and plots his revenge...but this time, he's learned his lesson.
He's been right before about Bowser being a more useful ally because of his power. But he realizes that not only Bowser is too egoistical to ally with, but he isn't even the most powerful.
Instead, he focuses on Luigi. Luigi and his almost unique connection to the Dream World. Luigi who's been the powersource of Mario through the whole adventure. Luigi whose subconscious is able to change the layout of the Dream World. Luigi who can summon a huge version of himself, almost as powerful as the Dream Stone Spirit...
Luigi who, Antasma is convinced, is the key to his success.
So his plan this time is to get his hands on the younger Mario Bros. By hiring goons, or sneaking into Luigi's dreams, or kidnapping him himself, or allying with other villains again (*cough* King Boo and/or Dimention *cough*), he will do anything to finally taste this incredible, untapped power, and seize it for himself.

how is dean not the same as john. in the later seasons i mean. sorry but describing him as "not an angry man" is insane to me cause dean's number 1 of getting out his emotions is anger. i love dean as well but like. you know john tried to be better too right? like i dont really understand how you extend this huge hand to excuse some of dean's angry/bad tendencies (which imo makes him that mlre interesting: the fact that he is angry and he's sometimes not a particularly good person) but refuse to extend even a sliver of this to john? obviously i get that you're attached to dean way more than john thats like common sense for us deangirls but genuinely. cas died and dean did turn into his father. its a thing that happened. i love dean and i dont understand how you can call yourself a deanlover but... erase so much of him??? like you can say he has bad qualities. thats what makes him human. john and dean are much more similar than you claim and its genuinely confusing to me why you don't see that. not trying to start a fight or anything i genuinely would like to get a piece of your mind on this
no no no you misunderstand. i am not erasing ?? his anger. he IS angry (it's just that anger for dean is rarely actually anger). i also think his imperfections are what make him interesting. i talk abt this a lot actually. about how i don't believe in flatting ANY character to prop them up as your fave. people being messy and flawed is good. the problem i have is people who do not look at dean w/ any nuance and just point blank go: he's angry therefore he's abusive and equals john without examining WHY he's angry, where that anger originates from, the fact that his anger most often is Not true anger for the sake of anger or violence. instead, his anger most often stems from fear and grief. especially during widower's arc. he's drowning in grief and as much as we love jack and can see in hindsight that he wasn't a threat at all, dean doesn't know that! we as the audience get the privilege of often knowing and seeing more than the characters! all dean sees at the time is a Very powerful being, who IS the son of lucifer, and who he believes manipulated his best friend and got him killed. he does have every right to be afraid and wary of jack. (and i'd argue he has the right to feel this way again with soulless jack, he IS afraid of him and what he might do and he's also grieving mary and that mixture of grief + fear is where his anger-but-not-really-anger comes from). like, because of the way dean was raised, because of growing up with the angry man that is john, the only emotion that was really expressed and "allowed" was anger. anger was justified. crying and sadness and fear, that's weakness in john winchester's household. but anger was powerful and masculine and good.
i also DO look at john with nuance as well. i've talked about how i don't like when people reduce john to a flat caricature or cartoon villain abuser. there's more going on, there's nuance, their dynamic is so complicated. john is Also, at first, drowning in his own grief. i think early on, john DID try, and was mostly motivated by a desire to protect his family, but he went about it wrong and imperfectly. however, where they diverge, is that john continued to let his anger consume him for the sake of revenge. he neglected his children, he put them in danger through his repeated neglect, and he did (based on various pointed insinuations) at one point or another physically abuse them, most likely dean specifically (the line abt flagstaff, also less "canon" but in the john's journal book john mentions how dean was particularly responsive to "discipline" and that john feels he's been too soft on sam)
the thing is, being angry doesn't make you a bad person. being angry is human. dean's anger imo, and the way we see it manifest--most often when what he really wants to express is grief and fear--is indicative of his internalized behaviors learned from john and past trauma that remains unresolved. this man has never had a chance to COPE or unpack not only the abusive and controlling environment he grew up in, but all the subsequent years of trauma INCLUDING his hell trauma. that's a lot. all those bottled up feelings are gonna turn into a lot of anger and frustration. he doesn't suffer perfectly. like you said, and which i agree, he is not perfect. he's flawed. he's human. but i don't think being angry and suffering imperfectly makes him a bad person. i feel too much empathy and compassion for him. i can see struggling and i want someone to help him. sometimes when people are in pain they'll say or do things they don't mean. and yes, they may hurt people in the process and those people are allowed to feel upset, but dean is also hurting. and i don't think he's a horrible person for not suffering the "right" way or not being a "good victim." and that's how i view widower's arc, as someone who is deeply hurting and suffering. it's not excusing his behavior but it's not villainizing it either. john gets similar feelings from me too, to a point. but john took things further and actively abused and neglected his young children and raised them to be soldiers and made them put aside their dreams and desires in the name of HIS revenge quest. he raised his children to live in fear and used fear and violence to control them. however, despite the fact that *i* don't particularly like john winchester, i know that his dynamic w/ his sons is nuanced and i know that dean both Loves and Hates him and that both those feelings can and do co-exist and i enjoy that duality.
dean's complicated emotions during times of intense grief and stress (widower's arc, losing mary, finding out chuck was controlling his whole life) are isolated moments but do not speak for his whole self. outside these high stress situations, where what he's really feeling is fear / grief / worry, we usually see dean to be very compassionate and patient and good with children.
this is getting very long now and i don't know if you'll take the time to read all of it but i'd like to conclude with saying my main issue with the "angry man in the house" phrase is the way it is used out of context to paint dean as becoming john and taking the place of the angry man in the house, when the original context of the quote is about being haunted by the angry man you grew up with, not becoming him. i talk more in-depth about all of that in this post.
also, just as an aside but, i generally have two "modes" of operating on this blog. one is fangirl mode where yea, dean is my blorbo specialest princess who can do no wrong<3 and then there's the other mode where i'm doing formal analysis of canon where it's more abt dissecting things and talking meta and looking at WHY characters are acting how they are. that's when i talk abt their flaws and motivations and nuance and context. also, people are often needlessly harsh or over-exaggerate things dean said or did in canon just to villainize him and in those instances yes i will go to bat for dean and "defend" him, usually by just, pointing out the nuances and additional context for his actions that many choose to overlook or misinterpret just to make dean seem worse than he actually was.

have you ever made a rec list of books w good groveling scenes? If not, I’d love if you would share your favs with us
I haven't made a list, nope! I've mentioned some before, but my favorites are always shifting (aside from some holy faves). I'll break 'em up by genre, I lOVE a good grovel.
These are not all of them (I can think of... several other MacLean grovels I love, for example, but she's just really good at a grovel). But they're some!
Contemporary
Kiss An Angel by Susan Elizabeth Phillips. Excellent grovel, which is truly made by the fact that the hero is such an asshole to her. One thing I really love about SEP is that her heroines will just like. Vanish off the face of the earth lmao. And the heroes will be like D: WHERE IS SHE???? But yeah, this grovel is less "sobbing at her feet" and more "this man is debasing himself and betraying everything he said he stood for in order to get her back" which... is deeply compelling.
Act Your Age by Eve Dangerfield. Another one where he certainly needed to do it! I don't really see groveling as a paint by numbers one size fits all thing; to me it's about the hero doing something that is hard FOR HIM in a way the heroine recognizes and understands is specifically sacrificial for him. And I think this hero does that. Also, another situation where she just vanishes and he has to deal with his character flaws.
The Master by Kresley Cole. I LOOOVED this grovel. Again, vanishing! I just loved this one because he was so pathetic. This man is like a billionaire mafioso and he's like texting this broad all "idk what you're doing but I hope it's going well :(" lmao I cackled.
Give Me More by Sara Cate. A MMF grovel, so he has to grovel to both of them. And he does! He really has to do the work on himself in order to be worthy of his wife and his boyfriend. It's so good.
Mafia Target by Mila Finelli. LOL MAN. This is an m/m mafia romance, and it's very literally between a mafia boss's son and the guy sent in to assassinate him. They both know. They catch feelings. Then there's a HUGE reveal. And I just loved that this grovel a) doesn't work at first and b) does work in such a quiet, emotionally vulnerable way. Ugh. I love this book. Also...
Mafia Madman by Mila Finelli. This is one where it's so over the top and great, but it also subverts what you think is happening in the moment. And what makes it even more touching to me is that she does not require these physical or monetary gestures he could rather easily make; she requires him to really emotionally collapse for her.
Historical
Something Spectacular by Alexis Hall. This is not a huge grovel because the person groveling did something hurtful but deeply understandable. But this one was so evocative to me. I mean, again, it all depends on the moment right? So sometimes, I do love a hit your knees crying grovel. And this is a good one.
When the Earl Met His Match by Stacy Reid. Another hit the knees moment. This one is rather beautiful and evocative. The hero is also mute, so he actually signs his speech to her. It's really wrenching and emotionally honest and dramatic, and I just adore it.
Untamed by Elizabeth Lowell. A huge elaborate sort of grovel in the way only a medieval romance can do it. I mean, she doesn't even get to hear his totally deranged spiel after she's kidnapped--but suffice to say, the heroine believes the hero doesn't love her and won't come for her, and he's like "IF SHE IS NOT RETURNED TO ME ALIVE AND LAUGHING I WILL BURN THE WORLD DOWN" it's so great. He's such an asshole. He really has to collapse.
Lady Isabella's Scandalous Marriage by Jennifer Ashley. I really love a marriage in trouble book, and this is a marriage in trouble book that's basically the hero realizing at the very beginning "oh, I need her back" and like, proving himself to her and making up for his bullshit that ruined the marriage. He spoils her to. In every way.
The Day of the Duchess by Sarah MacLean. Another book-long grovel, but the rare grovel where he's actually groveling for cheating on her. These two went through SO much pain. It was so bad. And he has to really spend the entire book trying to show her that he loves her and has changed. It's so great.
The Bride Goes Rogue by Joanna Shupe. AMAZING grovel. Like, I always refer to this one as the one where he leaves treats on her doorstep (like, a 5 star meal, I think he whittles her something at one point lmao) and then attempts this big "WHAT ELSE IS THERE???" moment because like... a grovel is not LEARNING which is always a great realization moment. And when she rejects him in full. My God. It's so good. Him just falling apart. I wanna eat it up. Nom nom nom, I am a dog and I am happily rolling around in mud right now.
The Hawk by Monica McCarty. This is one where he kind of has to make a grand gesture, and it's kind of insane, but it's also great. And I deeply appreciate that, lol. Like, he really didn't have to go that big with the gesture (or DID he). (He did.)
Paranormal
Lothaire by Kresley Cole. LMAO. AND DOES HE EVER HAVE TO. Lothaire has to realize that he is nothing without her (sadly smelling her lingerie for comfort, unable to even kiss another woman when he tries to force himself to do it) and he has to face his greatest fear in a grand gesture, and he has to give her this entire pathetic love confession (and he's losing his shit so he says it in Russian and she doesn't understand but it's so gorgeous anyway).

would you consider animorphs a greek tragedy/the characters traditional tragic heroes? if so, what would you consider their fatal flaws?
Ehhh, it's never gonna be one-size-fits-perfect to apply a stage genre from ~2300 years ago to a novel series with entirely different media constraints from ~20 years ago. However. To paraphrase Aristotle, a tragedy has to have a:
Basically decent and likeable protagonist for the viewers to stan, BUT
Your fave is problematic: they think they're too cool for the gods, BUT
At least they figure it out in the end, BUT
It's too late to prevent them from losing everything and/or dying, ERGO
The audience leaves going "man, I feel bad but kinda good? Like, that ending made sense but it was a bummer and I didn't like how my blorbo died there, and I dunno I got a lot to think about, three out of five stars" [catharsis]
So there are contemporary stories that fit the bill of Greek Tragedy better, e.g. a lot of horror movies. Almost every Friday the Thirteenth involves the characters being told outright not to transgress ("don't go in the lake", "watch the kids, not each others' butts," etc.), followed by the characters' arrogantly transgressing anyway, followed by a godlike creature (Jason Voorhees) taking a disproportionate amount of revenge on them. Similarly, a lot of survival horror movies cast forces of nature as entities that punish anyone stupid enough to disregard them (Jaws and sharks, Frozen and blizzards, Cujo and rabies, Open Water and open water), and have the characters be basically likeable people who still mess up out of arrogance and get killed real dead for it.
And I would argue that Animorphs doesn't fit the bill as well as horror movies like Blair Witch Project or The Ruins, because those latter examples involve experts (i.e. prophets) waving their arms and shouting "don't mess with this force of nature" as the protagonists walk on by to go mess with the force of nature, only to get killed by it. However, I also think that there are ways that Animorphs does fit the trope.
The characters are likeable: they look out for each other and their families, they tell funny jokes, they try to protect their planet, they risk their lives for their principles.
The characters are deeply flawed: they kill prisoners of war, they draw moral lines ("don't morph sapients without permission", "don't kill humans if possible") that they later trample over, they commit mass murder in the name of expedience.
The characters don't get happy endings: Marco gets a successful career that proves hollow, Jake hides at his parents' until he can't, Rachel dies, Ax dies, Tobias hides in a meadow until he can't, and Cassie... sort of does okay.
The characters (mostly) figure out their own flaws in the end:
When going into her last battle, Rachel says "Cassie thinks I'm fearless. Marco thinks I'm reckless. Tobias... well, Tobias loves me... By loving me, those two [Tobias and Cassie] would have messed everything up."
Jake tells Ax on the beach, after Visser One's trial, that "You did call my attention to the possibilities on the Pool ship. And when you did that I guess I should have thought, Well, Jake, it's a harsh, terrible thing to do, but you're justified because, after all, you're the victim here. But that's not what I thought. You know what I thought?... Die, you filthy worms. Feel the fear, Yeerks. Feel the pain. Feel the helplessness. [I] wanted them to suffer and the idea of them suffering and dying made [me] happy..."
Tobias's is subtler, but when watching the hikers in his meadow and says: "If they stayed another night she would play her flute again. Which shouldn't bother me. But if there's one great lesson to surviving alone, it's this: Don't lie to yourself. I was all I had, and I had to tell myself the truth, and the truth was that their presence bothered me." He doesn't say it outright, but he implies that he gave up everything to be alone and that he still gets lonely sometimes.
For Marco, when Jake interrupts him whining about his TV show with "Marco, you were bored out of your mind", Marco says "Yes, I was." Again it's subtler, but Marco is clearly aware that the things he wants are rarely the things he needs.
Ax never quite unlearns those glory hound tendencies. He knows he's not supposed to lead a boarding party, "But I was bored. And I knew the T.O. wouldn't argue: I wasn't just the captain or a prince, I was... a living legend." And then "You were supposed to want to stop fighting and go home to your meadow... At some level I did, too. But how do you weigh the sharp rush of battle against... watching your trees flower?" He loves glory a little too much, and he gets his whole crew killed for it.
For Cassie, her confrontation with Erek forces her to realize her flaw when she angrily tells him "Rachel and Tom are both dead... Thanks to you." When Erek shoots back that the Animorphs drained the Pool ship, she starts to say "Jake did what he had to do... We needed a div—" But cuts herself off, disgusted with her own rationalizing, before she finishes the word "diversion." Erek then spells it out: Cassie's fatal flaw is that she cares more about one life (Tom, Rachel) than 17,000.
Anyway, I think that some parts of Aristotle's idea fit reasonably well. But also that it's not a perfect example of the trope and that there are contemporary works that fit the trope better than Animorphs does.

V, realistically speaking, which of the knb boys would workout better with you? Why? Does your fave is really your best match?
Just curious!
M.
Hi M welcome!
I really like the question you asked, not least because I've seen that many of my favorite authors (here and here) are blogging by reasoning about the kind of person they'd like by their side, so I'm going to take the opportunity to launch a topic to exchange views.
So who would be a good match for me among the knb guys? I don't know, I would probably need a male version of Momoi , someone who is present, supportive, intelligent, knows when to shut up but also has a life separate from mine. Someone with whom I could have time to grow together, but rationally I know that this dynamic is not enough for me. I am prone to boredom, especially in love relationships, this has to be said. If a person doesn't keep me on the rope (let's be clear, in a playful way, I'm not a melodrama chick), it can't work out in the long run because I become unbearable, plus I don't feel attraction for someone who is very flat or predictable. I like good people, but I don't like people who want to take care of me (that's my fatal flaw, find your own one, dude!). I love direct, straightforward people, although most of the time I get a little hurt by some situations, but honestly those are the ones that make you grow the most.
Even stones know that Daiki is my favorite, but I think it would be a story that works? I don't know. Would he notice me? NO! I think it would be a very one sided thing (of course I would be the one with a crush). I don't know, in real life I've never been able to be determined and say, "I'm going to go now and try to meet that guy," and he certainly doesn't have this varied routine that would allow me to ' casusally' bump into him. Personality-wise I think we could work, but honestly when I was in a relationship it was all so random and natural that I don't think I could tell you what exactly worked.
He's kind of the kind of person I always like, a little hermetic, a little goofy, but definitely very protective and playful. I love how he can be simultaneously terribly assertive, childlike and deep, that contrast is really attractive. He's a character I understand well because we have some dynamics in common, and I think that for me leads me to find him even more attractive because it makes him familiar. Sorry if this response is so chaotic, but I'm just rearranging my thoughts as I write this post!
Thank you so much for the question!
V.
lemme tag my people: @officialparentofadrien,@asunflowerana, @lylakoi, @evelhak and again @lamnwar and @tetsunabouquet my muses on this post.
PS: For the avoidance of doubt, Momoi is perfect as a girlfriend, it is I who, due to my orientation, can imagine myself in a romantic involvement with the opposite sex to mine.

Sakuya Watanuki is a Gay Character and Here's Why I Think so 🌈💚 (Part 2)
Since my first post was getting very long, I decided to make a part 2 post and because I was still in hyperfixation mode when saving these in my drafts weeks ago lol 😂
(Part 1 here btw)
More OVA/Anime moments:
I personally think that while Sleepy Life of Servamp is usually meant to be funny, (well lots of bonus content is very funny in Servamp lmao) but SLS 3 had a surprisingly bittersweet moment of Sakuya thinking about calling Mahiru when he couldn't reach Tsubaki. Unfortunately he didn't end up calling him, but he thinks about Mahiru instead.
Tumblr media
Just look at his smile when he thinks about Mahiru 💚
Also Sakuya's face when he thinks about memories with Tsubaki vs. his memories with Mahiru, there's definitely some bias there...
Tumblr media
again I know SLS is supposed to be funny usually, but Sakuya truly does always smiles his brightest whenever he's with Mahiru or even just near him.
Also Sakuya abandoning Tsubaki's side to go see Mahiru in Sleepy Life of Servamp #3 with zero hesitation... I swear Sakuya's confidence just fluctuates back and forth in everything he's in,, WHAT IS THE TRUTH TBH?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Speaking of Sakuya smiling his brightest around Mahiru... Sakuya is usually frowning or grumpy most of the time as we all know.
So I think it's very sweet Mahiru makes Sakuya smile so much ✨
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sakuya almost always has to be touching Mahiru it seems. Usually in the form of his arm being around Mahiru or even just on a hand on him. I swear Sakuya does this more than any other character Mahiru is close with...like I can't even fit all the images where he does this with Mahiru. It's just an undeniable observation. Sakuya enjoys Mahiru's presence that much 💚
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a bit of my own personal opinion here, but I think Sakuya's "class clown persona" wasn't just a fake persona. I genuinely believe Mahiru just naturally brought out that side of him. From what we could see from their first meeting Sakuya wasn't super friendly right away and wasn't seeking out any longer term friendship. I think he feels like he can be the person he wants to actually be when he's with Mahiru. It's both a beautiful thing and a tragic flaw I feel like.
Putting the rest of these other moments/thoughts under "keep reading" because holy shit, when will Sakuya's pining for Mahiru end anyways?
Land of Nod/Tananka Box events:
Parallel Summer had plenty of moments of Sakuya's blatant favoritism towards Mahiru (x)
for example:
In the fishing contest Sakuya tries to give all his fish to Mahiru, but Mahiru said it would be "too unfair".
Sakuya ditches Tsubaki and Belkia to be on Mahiru's team in beach volleyball and also protects Mahiru from getting hit.
More of a Mahiru thing, but Mahiru sees a shooting game stand and asks Sakuya to go win him a prize cause Sakuya is good at those kinds of games apparently. They play together instead 💕At the very end of Parallel Summer, Mahiru admits he'd be lying if he said he didn't miss Sakuya.
Mahiru and Sakuya play with sparklers on the beach together, Sakuya tries to write out something for Mahiru to read with the sparklers but Mahiru doesn't understand it. (I also really want to know what he was trying to say there 👁) there's also a bittersweet moment about a false memory here too, but Mahiru isn't upset at all even though Sakuya feels very bad about it.
^^^ This is a really good and important moment I think. Because it's sometimes a wonder about how Mahiru really feels about the whole fake memories thing.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
There was a 2019 Valentine's event that was like a visual novel so you the player could pretend to go on a date with your fave Servamp character by giving them chocolate 💝
Tumblr media
but... you might have been a bit disappointed if you were looking forward to Sakuya completely focusing on you the whole time... while Sakuya is mostly polite to you on this short date, upon meeting with you he will mention he only came because Tsubaki told him too. (wow real charming Sakkun) He will take you to a shop and will proceed to talk about how he used to go there with Mahiru and yeah... he doesn't talk about anything else just as much it feels like. (x)
Sakuya: “I wonder if Mahiru’s doing well. I used to go to this shop a lot with Mahiru after school. Mahiru had his first monjayaki here, is what he told me. He looked happy and he was having fun.”
Its kind of funny how almost everything seems to somehow fall back to Mahiru with him... But as much as I adore SakuMahi, I can still definitely see this bugging Sakuya fans who probably didn't want that kind of interaction with their fave character. Again that's just what I think.
I think Strike maybe thought Sakuya fans probably didn't want their Sakuya route to be him talking about Mahiru for like half of it(?) The routes are already super short after all. But in the 2021 White Day event, Sakuya focuses only on you now and even holds your hand at the end, so that's nice 💕 (x)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
and now for my personal favorite, the 2019 Servamp Halloween Land of Nod event. Another one of those visual novel like games that Strike made for us, but you can trick or treat your fave characters and try to get several endings/routes.
(Small disclaimer: all the translations for this event are rough ones that I got from a friend of mine who was kind enough to share with me at the time, so I have no real source to link and I only have a few lines of dialouge from it here BUT I LOVED THESE MOMENTS SO MUCH I HAVE TO TALK ABOUT THEM 😭❤✨)
On the Melancholy route, you can meet up with Sakuya along the way and if you give him a treat you will eventually ask him if he's planning to invite anyone to the party and who do you think Sakuya plans on asking to go with him??? Take a wild guess.
Sakuya: "uh...well…there's this Halloween party..at Tsubaki's…and uh….."
You: "So, are you planning on inviting anyone?"
Sakuya: "!!! Ah...well... um.…I thought of inviting Mahiru...But I know the relationship between Tsubaki and Mahiru is... well..."
Yes. Sakuya wants to ask Mahiru to come. But he's afraid to ask. Since its hosted by Tsubaki, Sakuya is worried Mahiru will be uncomfortable because of that.
There's a brief moment where Sakuya remembers a time in the last year when he and Mahiru were still in school and how Mahiru used to always bake cookies for him, Koyuki, and Ryuusei.
Sakuya: "I'm not sure why I just remembered that story but….. I wish I could do that again……"
I love this route so much because you have the option to encourage Sakuya to ask Mahiru. Also it's pretty cute how timid Sakuya seems here, he really does let his guard down when it comes to Mahiru.
You: "It'd be okay to invite him, you know…"
Sakuya: "………!! You really think so…?"
You: "Yes, I think so."
Sakuya: "I…..I see... so it's really okay….? "Hm….. I'll think of something…. I'll go look for Mahiru….. Then, I'll see you at Tsubaki-san's party. Happy Halloween. Have a good night."
Mahiru does say yes to Sakuya (although off screen, cause who knows how gay that would have been) and he even makes cookies for the party!
Tumblr media
That's just the gist of this one though, again I had a friend who translated those small parts for me and I had to dig for them again, but unfortunately the rest is literally lost in translation cause there isn't full translations for all the Halloween routes and other extra dialogues. (and if there is feel free to correct me)
All I know is that Sakuya and Mahiru do talk a bit, there's a small joke about how they haven't seen each other in the main story for awhile(haha real funny Strike 😭)
Something along the lines of:
Mahiru: "We haven’t even seen each other much in the comics lately." (something about being "enemies" too yada yada)
Sakuya: "Ah, yes~ Your retorts are so on point that I feel so at ease…"
Mahiru: "Well, don’t! I don’t care anymore! Here, have some cookies!!"
Some other things happen that I don't know the full context of,, but Sakuya does thank you for your help after the party too and invites you to another party(?)
Also Sakuya made sure the menu full of Mahiru's favorite foods... my goodness he likes him so much.
That's all I can provide from what was shared with me. The rest once again is all lost in translation. If there is eventually a good translation I'll update this hehe.
I really wish there was more I can say though, I want to know all the other details for the Melancholy party. All I know that going down this route leads to the party being a success and everyone has fun but yeah only able to get rough translations there. Which is why I saved this one for last.
I could talk about some other random Sakuya stuff but I feel like other smaller stuff I'm thinking of don't help my point really 😂 (unless y'all want a part 3 or something, I kind of want to talk about what I think of Mahiru's pov of Sakuya... But we'll see I'm sure you're sick of me now lol.)
If you read this whole thing you're just as obsessed as me now, congrats 🎉🎉🎉 and thank you! 💚
✨🌈Happy Pride Month!!! 🌈✨

1, 6, 7, and 9 about your current fave fic of yours (I'm not familiar with what midgexlenny is, but tell me about it if you want to!)
Lol oh I do sometimes feel bad for my poor Sherlolly mutuals putting up with me while I lose it over a different ship ❤️ they're different but the venn diagram of pairings does overlap in places.
First off, this is Midge and Lenny from Amy Sherman Palladino's The Marvelous Mrs Maisel. They're two foul mouthed stand up comedians in the late 1950s/early 1960s and they're soulmates.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you enjoy Gilmore Girls level fast paced dialogue but with more f bombs and so so so many pretty dresses I definitely recommend at least bits of the show.
Being that Lenny is a fictionalized version of real life comedian Lenny Bruce (originally intended to only appear in the pilot but they brought him back as part of the show because the chemistry was just too good. The actors are friends in real life and the joy in working together comes through in some really beautiful performances) the final canon of the show was a bit handcuffed on just how far the creators decided they could let the ship sail but that's where the fanfic comes in 😂
Which brings me to my fic Guess Who's Coming to Yom Kippur!
*What is your favorite thing about this fic?*
This was my first dive into writing for this fandom and it has been so much fun. Truly delightful! So many things I've enjoyed with this one. But my favorite thing I think is that it really is an ensemble piece. The characters of the show are all very nuanced, often delightfully flawed, sometimes wacky individuals and I love giving them all a seat at the table and getting to know them. Sometimes quite literally within the fic (it centers around a big family dinner for several chapters). I've had to think of scenes cinematically and it's stretched my dialogue writing in a really enjoyable way. There's at least one scene I wrote visualizing it as a long tracking shot with characters moving in and out, very high energy and lovingly chaotic. It's a fic that has a lot to do with family both found and blood related and how love can show up and show through in a lot of humorous ways.
*Were there any alternative versions of this fic?*
Yes! I originally came up with the idea a season prior to my actually getting around to writing it (wrote it after watching season 4, thought of it watching season 3). The original vague concept for it was much shorter and ended with Midge and Lenny in more of an ambiguous but hopeful "maybe someday" where as the current fic has them very much endgame. And I'm quite happy with that. I feel like I discover more about the story and the characters the longer I work on it. I'm eventually going to write a sequel because I'm having so much fun (another first for me!)
*Favorite line of narration/ Favorite bit of dialogue*
So this fic is currently sitting at over 62k words and counting (it comes with trying to emulate Amy Sherman Palladino levels of dialogue) Easily the longest thing I've written 😅😅😅 I'm not sure I could pick any specific favorites without reading through the whole thing again. And maybe not even then. There's a lot of moments I'm very fond of. Though most probably require more context than would make it easy to share. I'll include a snippet of the tracking shot arrival scene I mentioned since that doesn't require a ton of context from the show other than knowing the names mostly.
In this bit they're arriving at a party hosted by Midge's ex in-laws and Lenny is meeting her older brother Noah and his wife Astrid for the first time. Esther is Midge's two year old daughter. Noah is canonically a secret agent. Lenny is known for getting arrested for things he says in his stand up (a proponent of free speech in a red scare era).
They arrived at the Maisel residence as dusk began to settle in over the sleepy suburb.
"Hi everyone! Sorry we're late. Esther needed to make a pit stop," Midge called out as they let themselves through the front door.
"Us too! We just got in," Noah said from somewhere deeper in the house.
Midge set the kids loose and made her way towards the kitchen. "Mama, Shirley, what can I help with? Oh, Esther sweetie, I don't think Grandma wants you touching that."
"Hi Midge," Astrid greeted, coming in holding little Chaim.
"Hey Astrid! One second," Midge called over her shoulder, rushing to corral Esther away from the more breakable tchotkes. "Esther. Esther put that down!"
Lenny smiled, collecting the kids discarded shoes into a pile by the door.
"Oh hi! You must be Midge's friend." Astrid gave him a welcoming smile.
"Lenny," he supplied.
"Lenny. So nice to meet you. I'm Astrid. This is Chaim." She held her son out for him to hold, passing him off. "Would you mind?"
"Oh I–" Lenny took Chaim in hand on reflex as Astrid didn't wait for a yes or no.
"Thanks."
She gave him another quick smile before dashing out the front door and wretching over the porch rail.
Lenny held Chaim at arms length, both too stunned by the transfer to know how to proceed.
"Hello…" he attempted, looking the child in the eye.
"Astrid, honey?" Midge's brother's lanky limbs carried him into the foyer in search of his wife.
Midge returned with a rescued porcelain figurine in hand. "Hey Noah, how was traffic–oh my god."
She stepped out immediately to check on Astrid the moment she saw her, leaving Lenny with Noah and his offspring.
"Yours, I believe," Lenny said finally, handing Chaim to Noah.
"Yeah…" Noah replied, taking his son while glancing after his wife and sister in concern.
The two men stared each other down for a moment, neither one quite sure how to react to the other.
"I'm Lenny."
"I know."

2. a compelling argument for why your fave would never top or bottom
idk how compelling this is but the reason i think it's so hard for me to write gamora as a bottom is that she was never really given power/control growing up, so the fact that she has it in the bedroom is very liberating and makes her a lot more comfortable. i think she could be very switchy but i personally could never write her as strictly a bottom.
3. screenshot or description of the worst take you've seen on tumblr
don't have a screenshot but any variation of "gamora's ending was good actually you're all just mad that she didn't end up back with quill and that's misogynistic" posts. that's not why we're mad and also wanting to see a female character be in a romantic relationship is not misogynistic at all?? need people to unlearn the 2016 buzzfeed "being a strong female character™️ means you cannot have any romantic connections ever" brand of feminism (which is not actually feminism, idk what it actually is but it's something along the lines of girlboss capitalism pushed by male hollywood executives).
8. common fandom opinion that everyone is wrong about
i don't see rocket as groot's dad. i feel like peter fulfills that role more and while rocket and groot are definitely closer and rocket is shown to be a disciplinary figure towards him i've always believed their best friend dynamic from vol 1 carried over to the new groot as well. i view rocket more as groot's super cool chill uncle who he can go to sneak a beer and talk shit with at family gatherings.
9. worst part of canon
toss-up between gamora's death and the fact that she was sidelined in vol 3. i'm sorry but i cannot believe james thought not showing a single scene of her with the ravagers before the ending was a good idea. showing not telling is like the number one rule in storytelling, you can just tell me 2014!gamora has a better relationship with the ravagers than she ever did with the guardians and expect me to believe it. also aging down phyla.
10. worst part of fanon
the constant sidelining of gamora (don't even try to deny it it's very obvious, esp after vol 3), the dumbing down of quill (he's not an incompetent leader and he doesn't spout pop culture references 24/7, he's a human being with flaws who at his core is a good person and good leader), the weird ass ships (once again no matter how anthropomorphic he is rocket is still a RACCOON), people who don't read comics but pretend like they know the comic characterizations of characters.
20. part of canon you found tedious or boring
kraglin uhhhh as much as i love vol 2 i never cared much for the ravagers b plot, i can take it or leave it. it does lead to a very emotional ending but i never find myself paying too much attention to the yondu/rocket/groot scenes on my rewatches.
23. ship you've unwillingly come around to
majority of the 616 gamora ships thanks to you. i think she should be allowed to make out with everyone. as a treat.

Me at mk12/mk1 shang:
Baby you did no wrong. The narrative does you wrong. Tells us you can never be forgiven yet other characters do horrible shit (maybe even worse) and get off scott free cuz the narrative and story told you to hate him. Instead of using your brains to think for once in your god damn lives. Calling shang lazy because he's poor, down on his luck trying to survive in this game. Ableist shitlords who tell poor people and minority groups to "put in honest work and youll get somewhere" or "shang tsung is always a liar" when a supposed "good version exists"?! Are you shitting me?! He deserve nice things. Every excuse i see seems to be wanting to demonize a character that in the story actually didn't deserve it. And by all means is valid in their anger. Shang tsung deserves better. But most of all he deserves the heads of those responsible for giving him a wretched life. So fuck nrs and fuck liu kang stans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
You deserve so much more. Shang tsung stans,my fellow tsimps. Please do him actual justice. That doesn't involve shipping him with everyone on the roster. You know actually write something worth a lick.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also Me at mk12/mk1 liu kang and anyone who justifies him in the narrative now:
Tumblr media
Tumblr media
That's not my liu kang and honestly liu should have stayed dead.
Nah i won't apologize.
Hating on this man for the predicaments that you gaslight him on in a situation where liu kang has every fucking means and power to actually change shit or ya know stand up to his superiors. Does nothing. Nobody's calling out these god/titans. And look where that gets our faves.
So liu kang is just as at fault if not more.
You dont give him nearly as much shit as you give raiden as a God and yet unlike raiden
LIU KANG DESERVES TO GET FUCKING YELLED AT,CALLED OUT AND SOME FUCKING CONSEQUENCES FOR HIS BLUNDERS. but yet....he doesn't really. Just sad kitty mew mew faces and a slap on the wrist.
Meanwhile shang tsung has to pay for crimes he did WHILE HE WAS TRYING TO SURVIVE AND ACTUALLY FUCKING DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE PROBLEMS.
Dont give that "oh but evil shang" did what? Whos to say it wasn't the same shit? But instead of God liu kang,it was raiden? So same shit. Plus like i said a good shang exists. So....what is the actual excuse to not feel bad for shang. Even a lil bit?
So same shit different god. Nothing got changed. Nothing worth of lick to the story actually happened.
So what did we actually do differently that was worth it?
Nothing.
Like how am i supposed to love these supposed "good guys" but all they do is follow orders, not question shit, follow narrative, and run around like bumbling idiots? How am i supposed to root for someone who legitimately ruined the lives of others by not actually helping.
If gods actually can do all this shit in mks world. Like they say. If these beings are oh so powerful. Then show it. Because if not. Then they are just as flawed and are no better then the supposed mortals.
Gods in mk use mortals as cattle for their own amusement would be the narrative that mk needs so desperately. And for shang tsung of all people to call that shit out and actually do something about it and do a NOBLE DEED. Would be fucking amazing.
But nope y'all want your boring stale unseasoned trope of "uwu evil guy to beat up because me good guy cant possibly be an asshole in the wrong uwu"
What drove shang to evil....is the lack of actually love and care from someone that was supposed to protect him. He had a hard time trusting others. So.....help him trust again? Help him and guide him better? Maybe he needs a lil bit different teaching technique? He obviously didn't take pleasure in lying or stealing or selling to make ends meet. Obviously there was a reason. Whos to say the people wouldn't find any excuse to hate shang even if he was making an honest living? Whos to say that they wouldn't find a way to other him in the narrative as some of y'all seem to be doing?
So yeah nothing changed.
same shit. Different god. That's all that fucking changed. Period.
It's a mid game. And thats me being very very generous. If shang wasn't in it and used as fucking sale bait. I bet you it wouldn't even get off half the fucking attention it's gotten. And even then it's waning as we speak. (Good)
Say what you want but there is no valid reason to hate shang tsung. You can say he's not your fave. You can say he's done deliciously cold Blooded shit. I'd agree with you.
But dont ever say it was for no reason. He has every right to fuck the gods up.
This man is a survivor of a game that was rigged from the start.
And by god he still despite taking unnecessary L's . He stays winning because i feel he's more popular than any other character on the roster. Simply by being the lovely bastard he is.
People would argue that sub zero or scorpion are the best. Not anymore. They aint even the right ones.
Kenshi is only popular because pretty guy lewis tan(he's cute but by god fans of him are irritating) plays him and people want anime sword dude. Outside of that niche what does he actually have to offer the narrative and story beyond his part. Nothing. Unpopular opinion but...His son was cooler anyways.
Johnny cage is cool but only in small doses otherwise he's insufferable. And he's even mid tier in mk12/mk1. That jean claude van damme skin is the only reason people came back for johnny and i genuinely feel that was also a sale bait. Because they knew they couldn't beat tekkens sales nor street fighter. And had to rush shit out to even be noticed.
It reeks of "notice me younger generation. We still have the cool toys." It's desperate for the glory days that never will come.
People are tired of the mediocre.
You had an opportunity to actually shake shit up. But nope nrs just wants an injustice game so bad but have to appease the impatient mk fans. I say this as a long time mk fan. We are our own worst enemy.
But enough venting.
I'll get back to shang tsung posting soon.
Some actual good food.
Just lemme simmer down and cook a bit.

Genuinely don't understand how people can hate Iruka. Even if you find him boring cause he's not the strongest or whatever, why hate him? He's never done anything to warrant actual hate!! Just say you're jealous of how sexy he is and go.

Gender and the Magic Mirror—
Or me just yelling into the void again.
So I mentioned in my ask post that NRC accepts trans masc, amab, nonbinary, and the like. I want to expand on that.
Now of course the Twisted Wonderland wiki states that NRC is a prestigious all boys school but... I don't believe its all cut and dry.
I refuse to believe that a school where magic, fae, beastmen, merman, and the like exist. Now I'm not trying to put those who are gender queer on the same plane of monsters im simply trying to say that it isn't far fetched that trans people and gender queer people exist.
High fantasy or magical settings always exclude the trans identity and that bullshit pisses me the hell off. You mean to tell me in world where people can revive the dead, use a divine being's skin as a throw blanket, fuck dragons and shit but trans people don't exist???
Fuck off with that.
Now I know that magic isn't a cure all, gender disphoria can't be cured with a bippidi boppidi, but there are ways to mitigate that because trans people have existed and found ways to present in the gender that they've wanted to, best believe twst humans found a way.
Binders ???? More like undergarments that conceal your gender, potions that give you more androgynous look whenever you're feeling disphoric,
Of course androgyny doesn't equal nonbinary, presenting as masculine or feminine on days you just feel inclined that way because there are just so many ways and methods that you can just have fun with gender.
However Japanese is a very gendered language of course that doesn't mean shit because Vil refers to himself by 'atashi' a feminine way to refer to oneself and Yuu refers to themselves as 'jibun' a nonbinary way to refer to oneself, Deuce even refers to himself by 'jibun' when he's trying to sound polite.
Of course that doesn't mean that there aren't gendered ideology, that masculinity and femininity aren't pitted together because the crux of Epel's entire development is his insanely gendered view on things because he's the 'man' and must look like one, which is flawed because what does a man even look like?
Is he scrawny?
Is he tall?
Does he have disabilities like dwarfism?
Is he human?
Is he in a wheelchair?
Does he have depression?
Is he a poc?
Is he a beastmen?
Is he a merman?
Is he apart of the fae?
Is he old?
What if he's gay or gender queer?
You get what I'm saying? Of course everyone knows that Epel wants to be a macho human man with huge rippling muscles and hands that can open a silk melon easy. But that's the thing, a man isn't just some dude who reeks testosterone like a goddamn corpse flower and makes every other man in the vicinity shrivel like a raisin because he's so manly and women fly at him like mosquitoes on a hot summer night.
Like I love Epel but lordt we have got to pray for him some time.
Which means that genderqueer and trans folx are not immune to facing stigma.
And no I don't believe that people from rural places equal bigotry i will not have that here.
I also want to mention that there has been multiple instances where effeminate/feminine coded characters (Vil, Epel, Riddle, possibly Ortho???) Have encountered bullshit because they are perceived as weak because they present more feminine a problem that is prevalent in our world as well even worse so.
Vil especially cause the way yall villainize that boy even after chap 5 and in his personal stories as if he isn't a child actor who has been explicitly stated to be too beautiful at a young age and probably faced sexual comments and just general fucked up things in the child actor industry just,,,,,,
It makes me want to eat dry wall and shit my intestines out.
Like I try to stay lighthearted but lord sometimes I have to holler at yall because villainizing feminine characters is so played out and tacky especially when i think about how my fave female characters were robbed from me because dudes hated her (the Sakura Haruno stan screaming in me lord)
I rock with Vil heavy okay.
TLDR; Trans masc, genderfluid, amab, nonbinary, demiboys, and the like have all been accepted into NRC.

🔥 give me an unpopular opinion on nile in fics 😈
GODDDDDDDDDDDD do I have some opinions about Nile in fics, bless you for giving me this opportunity to say some shit some people don't want to hear 😈❤️
Nile being present in a fic doesn't mean she's there.
There's the enraging predominance in Joe/Nicky fics, and even some theoretically team-oriented fics, where there's a character called Nile who does a handful of surface-y vaguely Nile-ish things but this entity is either (1) a sock puppet for the writer, (2) mentioned approximately once per thousand words, or (3) a plot device with absolutely nothing going on under the surface. I would rather people not include Nile at all than do this shit.
She's the main fucking character, there's plenty of characterization to start from! And our canon is only one movie and a handful of comics, there's so much more to explore about Nile! It'd be one thing if this happened to her no more or less often than any other character, because some people are new to writing and/or don't want to put much thought into the window dressing around their faves, I've been there, it's not necessarily a problem. The problem is the pattern. She's the Black female main character and she gets treated this way? She's the main character and she's the number one character people treat this way? That shit is fucked.
I've had several people with significant reach in this fandom tell me that I'm making things up — or even worse, being somehow anti-Joe — for pointing out that plenty of fics and art and metas and shitposts that include a character with Nile's name and face are totally absent of Nile Freeman.
I honestly believe that white people who talk a big game about racism and misogyny in fandom have a moral obligation to support Nile content. It's not like it's hard! So many of us are churning out gorgeous thoughtful shit all the time! If they can't handle reading and leaving a nice comment on a genuinely Nile-centric fic, they could maybe reblog your damn art!!
People who don't want to hear all that have surely unfollowed or blocked me by now, and whatever, good riddance. But there's also the call that's coming from inside the house.
Nile Freeman in canon is a very smart, level-headed, competent, strategic, take-charge mess. She's a full-ass adult but she's a young adult, she's just had everything she's ever known ripped away from her on top of all the trauma she already had — she's not ok, and she's not gonna be ok for a long time.
Some people have taken the Nile is a Mess thesis to a really troubling place, though. They've made her mean.
Nile's a flawed human person. She hits below the belt with that "like Quynh?" jab at Andy, she says that dismissive "sure" to Booker when he's trying to make them both laugh about his enormous gut wound. She's not infinitely generous and patient and warm. But she is kind. She drops everything, what might feel to her in the moment her only chance to see her mom and brother again, to go save Andy the moment she sees that gun is empty — to save Andy, whose stone-faced slaughtering in the church disgusts her. All jokes about doing it for the tits aside, she advocates for an apology instead of the exile.
I've completely lost my patience for even well-intentioned fics depicting messy Nile as cruel. She would never. That shit is for me personally the very worst version of Nile being present but not there.

Furuba autistic headcanons
With it being April, or autism acceptance month, I wanted to finally drop my list of characters from Fruits Basket that I read as autistic! This is based a lot on my own experience, as well as that of other autistics I know or have seen talk online. I hope some people can get something out of it, feel free to tell me what you think 😊, though please refrain from getting upset that I would dare suggest your fave is autistic.
Hanajima
Before becoming able to better control her powers, she would be constantly overwhelmed by the things she heard to the point that she couldn't even really go out in public. This reads a lot like sensory overload.
Constantly picked on in school because other kids thought she was weird. Eventually reclaimed this weirdness and turned it into a whole persona.
Seems to talk usually in a relatively flat tone.
Had trouble socializing with no friends outside her family until middleschool.
Has a very funny, dry sense of humor that I find very similar to a bunch of autistics I know, including myself.
Hatsuharu
Listen. You have seen the funky little man, you have seen the way he talks, the way he acts around others. He is, and I mean this in the best way, a weirdo. I do not know how you could look at him and see a neurotypical.
Once again, like Hana, Haru is funny in a way that feels very autistic.
Very flat, dry, tone delivery. Sometimes just Says Things that make everyone else go huh??? Suuuuper blunt. Doesn't emote facially a lot of the time.
When this man sees a social norm he doesn't get he WILL NOT follow it. Pierces his ears just because his hair got flak, defends Momiji wearing whatever he wants because sometimes y'know the social rules are just dumb and don't make sense. Especially dress codes.
Sometimes says things not befitting the current tone of the situation.
Represses (masks) a lot of his emotions, leading to outbursts that seem uncharacteristic.
His main childhood trauma revolves around adults branding him as "dumb" and ridiculing him. Haru, however, is super smart and wise!! Just in an offbeat way that not everyone may get.
Machi
Reads as very "flat" emotionally to the point that others would call her boring. Also has a flat vocal delivery.
Relies on specific habits or ways of doing things or else she gets super upset (her hatred of imperfection.
Has trauma surrounding adults completely misconstruing her intentions and thinking she's doing something malicious when she's not.
Generally behaves in a way that's hard for others to understand, one of her formative moments with Yuki was him saying he wanted to "see how the world looks" through her eyes.
Once again, trouble socializing.
Tries super hard to please her parents but in the end they still see her as somehow inherently "defective."
Listen. A lot of this one and the last two are mostly vibes, hard to verbally define. You just have to look at them and trust me.
Tohru
Displays behavior very reminiscent of masking throughout the story, a huge part of her arc is about how she hides a lot of herself and has a very controlled persona. I think it would fit very well if she had other autistic behaviors that she suppresed also it helps explain why she is relatively socially adept, it's learned behavior to make people like her more.
Yes she is very good at saying what others need to hear, but especially early on she is pretty blatantly imitating her mother's words. She only gets better at getting through on a more personal level later on (see her with Rin and Akito v. early series Tohru). She does this by relating her own experiences, a very autistic way of showing empathy that often gets us written off as self centered. The way she relays things her mom said could also be seen as this, and she even worries at a few points that she's being insensitive for going on about things like that.
While emotionally repressed she is hyper empathetic and feels other's emotions so strongly she cries.
Her speech patterns are all imitated from her father and she often copies verbal things from others (see Ritchan-san). Noted in canon that people think her way of speaking is slightly off/not befitting of someone her age. Additionally, her father was polite more sarcastically, while she plays it straight and sometimes takes things very literally or fails to get the message, indicating trouble with reading tone. Has numerous strange verbal tics, including saying parts of her internal monologue out loud without context.
Very expressive with her hands including waving them around and flapping them up and down.
Does have a bit of trouble with accidental insensitivity in social interactions, like how she constantly fixates on her mom and realizes that might bug the Sohma.
Has trouble paying attention in school since it doesn't have much to do with her interests
Her only friend until she was a middle schooler was her mom
Has a pretty unique outlook on things compared to others, people seem to think she's pretty eccentric. There's always a "this girl is nice but in an odd way, she's our weirdo and we love her" vibe.
Sometimes has an "inappropriate" emotional response to situations
Has a lot of trouble with change, similar to Akito. Which oh, look at the time, next hc coming up.
But first, a disclaimer. It is cathartic for me to read Akito this way, but with that reading comes the baggage that she would, mayhaps, be showing a more negative side of things... It doesn't bother me since it's a joint hc with other characters and she does develop at the end but yeah, general villain hc baggage. This is in no way me trying to excuse her being The Worst being autistic doesn't absolve you of being able to do wrong . Also, a lot of these points can and do have other explanations related to her upbringing, but things can be for more than 1 reason. With that said, she really strongly comes off as autistic to me, in a way that's sorta hard to explain. I wrote a lot more for her than the other, both because I felt I needed more to convince people and that this headcanon was more sensitive and I needed to be careful in my explanation. Also hey! She's my special interest within a special interest.
Akito
Shown to have a dislike of summer weather due to heat and brightness, could be due to sensory issues in tandem with sickness things. Also covers her ears when people raise their voice sometimes which is partially her trying to shut down opposition but also 🤔 can read a different way. She'd also avoids louder Juuni like Ritsu and Ayame because she can't handle them.
Wears pretty much the same outfit every single day. Said outfit is also pretty loose fitting.
Always seen sitting in a pretty unconventional way. Evidence:
Tumblr media
Of course this is also the isolated in a cult thing and there is a level of her purposefully doing things to intimidate but: doesn't follow a lot of social rules (overly touchy with strangers, legit doesn't get that what she's doing is wrong, ect.). Repeatedly confused when people indicate she should act otherwise without explanation. Has a breakdown when this comes to a head and approximately says that "they" shouldn't expect her to know "common sense" if "they" never explained it to her, that the way that she was was her "common sense."
Often talks in a way uncharacteristic of her age when shown as a child in a more faux mature/pretentious way. Might just be the translation and idk how to explain it but her speech as an adult also seems off from what one would normally use in conversation. Additionally, when she tries to fake being friendly in her intro chapter, it comes of as extremely stiff and unconvincing.
Generally displays behavior that could be thought of as childish as an adult, but a lot of this behavior could also read as autistic (covering ears, emotional deregulation and meltdowns, ignorance of basic social norms, ect.). It's also important to note that she knows that this behavior makes her seem younger and more helpless to the older zodiac and uses it as a manipulation tactic. Has issues regarding people treating her like a child or only hanging out with her because of pity. While she does weaponize it, we can tell that this grates on her, as seen with her finally blowing up on Kureno, which is partially triggered by the maids saying some sorta infantalizing stuff about her. Irl, a lot of autistic adults and teens struggle with being infantalized for our behavior generally or treated as little babies that can do no wrong. Even in fandom, you see people doing stuff like jumping to call autistic adult characters, such as Entrapta from Shera, "minor coded." It is also common for us to have at least one bad experience with someone hanging around us out of pity. This is something that really gave me a similar feeling in Akito's arc. She's not a baby and she can understand and do better if she is given the chance to learn and break from all the freaky cult indoctrination she's been subjected to instead of just being constantly enabled. In the end, a lot of her growth is represented by her showing that she is capable of changing and being independent.
Shows particular difficulty with socialization, often sits by herself spacing out at social events. A lot of her fear is rooted in the fact that she doesn't know how normal relationships work, becoming overly reliant on the curse because she doesn't know how to make friends.
Clings desperately onto the notion of being "special" and in some way superior to others to be worthy and to make up for perceived inherent "flaws." It's the nd gifted kid burnout vibes for me.
Easily bothered by things that don't bother others. Feels emotions very strongly to the point of getting physically ill and has bad emotional regulation.
Relatively good at reading others in an analytical sense (though has more trouble when it comes to seeing how they feel about her since she's wildly delusional) but brings up her observations in a very cold, detached way and hurts people even on the rare occasion she didn't mean to. Has extreme trouble connecting to others and understanding their point of view. This makes her come off as pretty unempathetic even though that might not fully be the case. Also thinks that people like Momiji are trying to look down on her when they try to empathize with her. A lot of why Tohru can get through to her is that she manages to convince Akito that she's not condescending by relating shared traits and experiences. As I said earlier, autistics often empathize by sharing their own experiences with someone, and I know I often have an easier time confiding in other autistics because of a fear of being seen as lesser by those that don't understand me. I think the connection between these charachters and the way that Tohru manages to reach Akito like that while others couldn't makes a lot of sense through an autistic lense!
Additionally, when Akito herself gets around to trying to help others instead of just projecting trauma, she tries to reach out to the old maid by relating back to her own experiences. This however, doesn't work.
Has "cold" emotional reactions sometimes even to things that do make her upset. For example, how sort of calm and detached she acted after her father's death can make her seem uncaring. However, we know that this event did mess her up a lot and she is still (poorly) dealing with a lot of grief from the death of her father years later.
Copies mannerisms from others, the most blatant example is with Ren, who she directly parrots lines from as a child to Yuki.
Partly just her posturing, but gestures a lot with her hands when she talks. Also seen several times clutching her hands in her hair.
Deals extremely poorly with the idea of things changing to the point that it is a driving force of the story.
Does not understand when people tease her.
Ect. Ect. Ect. Listen, I could go on for ages but just trust me, the mean gremlin lady is autistic.

a 4-part rec list of my fave drarry fics - the thrillers, dramas, soft bois, and wankbanks getting me through 2020′s shitstorm
[ for my fellow fledgling drarry stans! the drama list is here and, well. like i didn’t initially intend to go off in the mini-reviews beneath every rec but it’s just that you can't nOT yell about drarry as classic literary foils!! also it’s my dumb sideblog so i decided there are no rules and i get to be annoying about good writing.
but rly, the whole premise of the drarry pairing is shaped by this genre and if the ~serious world of serious published writers~ weren’t absolute cowards, they would admit that drama fic authors have contributed more to the genre than the average shit you can find at your local chain bookstore. so that's that on thAT. & if you love a fic here, don't forget to follow the authors, leave kudos & comments on their work, send them nice msgs bc they do all this shit for free xoxo ]
part 2: dramas
mood: for when I need emotional catharsis and maybe 7 hours to sob/brood about loneliness, the cost of love, & the perpetual fear of being truly known
includes: angst, hurt/comfort, reconciliation fics. it’s cruelty o’clock folks and someone is about to say/do something Fucked Up that they can’t take back. but don’t worry!! there will be a Reckoning feat. hamlet-worthy monologues, ugly truths, unbridled rage, trauma, insecurity, and just a fuck ton of tears!! but maybe even tender apologies and mended things.
(Un)wanted by @aibidil - 36k - E | Ginny's pregnant, then she's not and Harry's single. Harry, again with no family, doesn't know what to do with this turn of events, or how to find a new life—post-war, post-Ginny, post-abortion—in which he belongs. He doesn't expect that life to include dancing to the Backstreet Boys with Hermione and Draco Malfoy. A story of finding belonging in the unexpected. | --- can a fic be tender and unflinching at the same time? bc this story strikes that balance rly well and for a piece about unwantedness, it is incredibly humanizing. ginny holding her own, draco being gentle but not letting harry play victim, hermione calling harry “hazzah” and just the way this friendship insists on the validity of found families even when harry is spiraling?? and you’re forced to consider that no one has the monopoly on fucked-upness and that doesn’t absolve us of the ways we hurt each other but it means that everyone has the same potential to be better after being broken. goD JUST READ IT, OKAY.
Blood Magic, the series by @houseofhebrideanblacks and @thestralsofspinnersend 335k - E “Later that night. . .Draco wondered at the depths of magic, its breadth and scope. The ways in which life pervades and eludes death, the ways in which they endure all manners of small and large deaths within their lives.” -- if you don't read any other fic on this list, i hope you read this series bc holy shit it’s breathtaking. harry’s a recovering addict, draco’s recovering from abuse, and in a cottage within the forbidden forest begins an unlikely partnership as the boys take up the tedious work of healing. there are thestrals and everyone's in therapy. there are whole chapters of cottagecore drarry. it's a beautiful exploration of how we bare the immensity of loss against the miracles of birth and regrowth.
Ship of Theseus by GallaPlacidia - 18k - T “A ship in a full sail, a ship in a state of decay, a ship that had been rebuilt, slightly different. A repeating cycle. “What makes the ship the same?” asked Harry. “I don’t know. There must be something in it that lasts across the changes.” -- DO YOU KNOW HOW THIS QUOTE LIVES RENT FREE IN MY SAD, SAD BRAIN. DO YOU KNOW HOW I LOSE SLEEP THINKING ABOUT THE FUCKING SHIP OF THESEUS. it’s a memory loss fic and everything is so unFAIR. you want to murder harry sometimes bc he’s such a shiT and you suffer through the ways he questions desire, penance, redemption, true love. and by the end, you want to believe in those golden slumber lyrics: “once, there was a way to get back home”
Yours to Keep by @dracoismytrashson - 135k - E i love the university setting, i love getting to see harry and draco’s first forays into a real LGBTQ community, the class and race structures outside of the wizarding world. i love that this is the context in which they’re allowed to confront the shittiness of PTSD, anxiety, depression etc. as they come together and fall apart against each other’s traumas. it makes the ending feel earned af. “Baby, we’ve been easing into it for a decade.” -- my god this line
Away Childish Things by @letteredlettered - 153k - T  this fic is devastating. like, completely forget whatever reticence you might have towards a de-aging fic and read this. the de-aging premise allows the author to cut through the ways harry and draco hold each other at a distance and you end up with these stunning moments of clarity where they’re truly seeing each other for the first time. and suddenly everything makes sense. i won't spoil it here but there’s a scene towards the end where harry is talking to hermione and ron about realizing the first time he felt what its like to be loved and I fucking SOBBED. an all-time fave fic about learning how to belong.
Had To Be You by @lettersbyelise - 59k - E a genuinely excellent slow burn about absolute fucking morons who refuse to express their mutual love over the course of literal years?? HOW MANY TENDER MEET-CUTES DO 2 GAY IDIOTS EVEN NEED. a car ride a bookshop a street corner -- when harry met sally is my enemy. but you know what? this fic is masterfully written, it’s an epic tale of unexpected friendships and the inability to say the things we feel. also its very much also a soft boi fic if not for the Major Fuck Up that pushes it into drama territory for me. so worth the turmoil tbh.
Hurricane by phrynne - 120k - E auror partners terrified of love. it’s a fic about walls - where the emotional landscape of this fic is occluded by dishonest words so you feel the tension play out in hollow voices, shuttered looks, emptied eyes. it’s like watching two ppl get flayed alive in slow motion and everything is SHIT for a little. it’s mean, it’s ugly, it doesn’t let you give the characters an out when they’re being cruel - to each other and to themselves. but harry and draco are two violent forces hurling toward each other’s walls and the inevitable reckoning comes and it’s so very worth the ending. the hospital bed scene to rule all hospital bed scenes.
Returning Tides by @zigster-ao3 - E  “Is my timing that flawed? Our respect run so dry? Yet there's still this appeal That we've kept through our lives” --those fuCKing ian curtis lyrics in the summary!! p a i n. why do i put myself through getting-back-together fics knowing full well i’m gonna be Sad As Hell during the not-together portion of the story?? we are all unfortunately hoes for heartache. anyway this fic is beautiful. draco’s a dad and recently widowed, harry has a thestral reserve, the settings here are stunning. a story about grief and love that lingers.
A Piercing Comfort by @talithan - 44k - T “There is no objective scorecard. There isn’t anything that a person does that tips the balance from ‘deserving’ to ‘undeserving’, or vice versa. A ‘deserving’ person will not run out of worthiness after a set time of happiness and have to then go about working to deserve it again. And an ‘undeserving’ person does not have to suffer at length before having the opportunity to be ‘deserving’.” -- the heart of this fic. harry’s in therapy, facing depression, and learning how to accept love he doesn’t think he deserves. (also draco is harry’s therapist but yes, that power dynamic is handled ethically-well imo and addressed in the author notes I promise!!).
Borrowing Courage by @xx-thedarklord-xx - 70k - E |After years of being a Magical Artist and painting for other people, Draco decides it’s time to paint for himself for once. The secrets pile up as he tries to unravel the mystery of his relatives but the only thing he didn’t count on was having to go to Potter of all people for approval.| --god i love this fic. the thing about drarry here is that they never mean to hurt each other but they do. they do and draco’s trying to do the right thing and he wants so badly for good family but harry’s never rly stopped grieving sirius and it’s this whole unintended mess of festering wounds forced to heal. everyone needs a hug. also ron/blaise pairing and ron+draco’s friendship here is everything!!
Reparations and the sequel, Foundations by Saras_Girl - 320k - E | Harry is about to discover that the steepest learning curve comes after Healer training, and that second chances can be found in unexpected places.| -- incredible. harry and draco’s dynamic as healers, the cast of original characters, the boys learning what it means to trust each other, draco building a rehabilitation center, harry falling in love with him, and “meus fabula est mei ut dico: my story is mine to tell.”  i cry
The Ties that Bind by phoenix_writing (not on ao3) - 61k - T | Upon Andromeda’s death, Harry and Draco are given custody of Teddy. Their lives will never be the same.| -- harry’s got major abandonment issues and he’s just trying to be a good co-parent with draco but everyone is being the woRST and you want to murder them on behalf of harry. but then, the boys learn to listen to each other and god it all becomes so tender. also harry has a gay panic. things are awful but it all works out. -
[part 1: thrillers | part 2: dramas | part 3: soft bois | part 4: wankbanks]

It sucks now that in fandoms, people can't be critical of the media they're consuming or the character they like.
We're entitled to have our opinions and it's okay to disagree with them. However, it's not okay to tell someone their opinion is invalid and harass them about it. To think some people are so pathetic enough to tell someone, "How can you like this character so much when you judge them so much? You need to take '--- stan' out your bio. If you don't like how the show is going, why don't you just drop it?"
Um... who are you to tell me I can't claim myself as this character's fan? Who are you to tell me how I should feel about this plot or this scene or anything?
What if the show I make so many critical posts about is still my comfort show and still interests me? What if the character I adore makes mistakes that just don't make sense and I have to rant about it?
Look, I have my fair share of fave characters. Does that mean I think they're absolutely flawless? No. I will probably have that "WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT, YOU IDIOT?!" moment. However, that doesn't me less of a fan.
For example, I adore Midoriya with all my heart. That's my baby, my ray of sunshine, my precious one. But even I want to yell at some of the things he does. Does that mean I suddenly hate him? Does that mean I can no longer be a fan?
No. That just means I have feelings and have every right to express them.
Bakugo is another one of my fave characters, but I did think he was a bully in the beginning. I have my least favorite scenes for him. However, I still think he's a fun character. He's entertaining to me. Yeah, I want to bonk him on the head, stop being such a gremlin child, sometimes. But again, doesn't make me less of a fan if I feel that way and I won't let anyone tell me different.
Sure, sometimes, people do lose interest in a character and that's okay, too. Interests can change.
And even if that person no longer stan a character or is critical, what it doesn't mean is for you anons to go into someone's inbox and tell them to take something out their bio or they shouldn't be a fan of that character. You have no right to dictate someone's opinions and feelings over FICTION, something there to entertain us.
It's getting ridiculous!
Again, if you disagree someone, that's okay. But if you have an urge to taunt them in their inbox, keep it to yourself. Do keep in mind that your harassment is not needed AT ALL and NEVER WILL BE. For one, it's fiction. Chill out. Two, you don't know what that person is going through in their life.
There is no media out there without flaws. There is no character without their flaws. This isn't just for BNHA, but for everything out there.
Plots will go out of whack, characters can frustrate us, details can go missing. We are allowed to be critical of it. Some criticism, not all because some isn't necessary, helps artists and writers to do better. Shoot, it even fuels fanfiction and fanart because we may wish this should have happen or it's a ship we need more of.
Regardless of how someone feels, it's not your business to tell them they can't be a fan of a character if they say the character did something they shouldn't have. It's not your business to tell them they can't like the media if the plot doesn't make sense sometimes. It's not your business in any way of how someone perceives some fiction. If you don't like it, just don't interact.

Honestly, I'm a lot harder on and a lot harsher at characters that are in a position of authority.
Like, I'm aware that they're still a person with faults and shit. But I will also be more aggressive about them just because their mistakes have much more severe consequences
It's why I love dragging techno and exile era tubbo.
Tubbo because, yes. He was a child president and was manipulated by dream. Believe me I'm aware and thats a big factor in how I judge them anyways. But he was still the president. He tried to do what was right for his country but most of his decisions were still shit. Still. Great guy. The second that role as president was obliterated all my loathing evaporated.
Techno because.... Holy shit... Holy shit...
Like, you know how much I adored pogtopian techno (please come back. I miss you. Please-) but honestly. Maybe it wasn't just that. Maybe he became so much less likeable when it became clear that nothing was keeping him in check. That his "mistakes" and bad judgement will always go unchecked because he is at the very top.
It's also the reason I've been ready to deck Sam since Tommy was locked in with dream all those months back. I understand that he's still a person. But man. That's so much less of an argument when his incompetence keeps getting my faves killed.
Like. That'd kinda why I have a love hate relationship with cPhil? Because. I think it's hilarious how... Pathetic he is. This man is a tool. It's hilarious how an ancient angel of the goddess of death has no clue what's going on like a senile old man finding out that mobile phones are more than just small portable telephones. "Wait, you can write to people with this?" "What do you mean there's more games than candy crush?" "Internet? I've heard of that on the news! They say people become victims of crime on there!"
Like. Holy fuck. I'd say that I've never seen a more ignorant character in my life but he lives with technoblade so theres the actually most ignorant character right there.... Maybe... Then again, techno DOES know about the pogtopia stuff... Then again... He does gaslight himself so he might as well not have been there at all...
I've gotten sidetracked.
Anyways. Phil is hilariously flawed, incompetent and has never made a good decision since he's joined the server. I'd say inviting in ranboo is a neutral decision... Just because that's too complicated.
So Phil is pretty fun to think about! Until I remember that he's the servers biggest fan of assisted suicide, keeps helping out the tyrants and destroyed most of the servers lifes. Is a fucking asshole to Fundy.... He's just.... Yeah...
And Phil doesn't even have authority the way the others I mentioned had! He just hangs with that one fucker all the time!
So imagine my frustration with the characters who actually do have authority!
Like. Yknow how society's kinda based on the principle of: I limit my freedom (like. Not killing and not stealing. Yes. That's limiting your freedom.) And in exchange I am protected and cared for (people that kill and steal aka harm people like me are persecuted (this is not about how well this gets executed irl. This is a base principle))
With authority it's kinda similar
When you get a position of authority you get freedom and control over something and people have to listen to you. Sam has total control over the prison, people have to respect his authority as the warden. And in exchange you get the responsibility for the things that go wrong. No matter what explanation. No matter how out of control the situation was for you. It's on you.
With great power comes great responsibility and shit.
Idk where I was going with this but in short: I will always be way more critical of the mistakes and faults and flaws of people in powerful positions. So fuck you Technoblade. Go suck a dick.
Yeah, I get your point. I also don't really have anything to add, but I'm the same way honestly. Just, characters that are in positions of power and put up a pretense about being somewhat righteous (like Techno and Phil saying they were destroying a nation and traumatizing everyone involved to "free the people" as if they hadn't just destroyed the lives of the people they were supposed to be freeing...) frustrates me often. Like, I'm fine with someone like Dream because I can openly call him a dick for abusing his power to ruin other people's lives and normally I don't get harassed for it. Same with Quackity actually. Just... everyone else... not really.
So yeah, I guess I'm less harsh with authority figures who aren't depicted as "morally gray" just because talking about their canon actions is generally not considered criticism worthy of harassment... (with the exception of Twitter).
