The Squalls pt 4
Tumblr media
The Squall's are eating breakfast for the first time in their new home. Amala is here because she...uh...spent the night.
Tumblr media
Yeah, ACR is a blessing. I'm going to get them married before she ends up pregnant and shamed. It's long overdue, they have been dating for some time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I really need to use this space more. I think this might be the second couple that has gotten married here in the woods. Amala looks lovely and finally the next generation of the Squall family can begin.
Tumblr media
Summer has aged up and received the star quality trait. No one seems to get this trait as much as my poor sims. What a waste.
Tumblr media
Winter has also aged up and she has the clumsy trait. Oh dear. A clumsy servant just doesn't sound desirable. Something strange happens to Winter later in life, but we will get to that later.
Tumblr media
Ohhh!! Doggie. I want to keep em, but I don't have the best luck adopting them before they leave. I will keep trying!
Tumblr media
Amala is helping out with the cleaning and baby duties already. It's very much needed, I mean look at all of those baby bottles. The Squall's house is very busy with two married couples, three little girls, and two twin babies. What a mess!
Tumblr media
Look! 👀 Kitty! See, they want to be adopted too!
Tumblr media
Little Aria has grown up and has the loves the cold AND loves the heat trait. O-okay...Also Gorah is a LOT more involved in their care than he was with little Winter and Summer. 👀
Tumblr media
Lani also aged up and has the evil and loves the cold trait. Oh my...gosh. She might be a terrible servant. Has the Squall stock went down?😖
Tumblr media
The piglets are growing as well and little Winter is already helping in the pig pen. Good girl! In this house everybody works!
Tumblr media
Wendy has grown up as well and is ready for servitude. At least the Squall's are producing plenty of females to be servants to the higher class families. I love Wendy. She has my heart. She is a popularity sim and has the social butterfly, good, loves the cold, and loves to swim trait.
Tumblr media
Jon Gale keeps trying to steal my pigs. Bastard. The worst part is none of the Squalls could win a fight to get the pigs back. Jon would crush them. We are going to ask him to leave. Again.
Tumblr media
While Tidus still has no kids of his own, he continues to be the world's best brother in this entire village! They may be short on space, but they are not short on love.
Tumblr media
Oops!! Looks like I spoke to soon. Amala is finally preggo! 👶
Tumblr media
Ugh...guess whose pregnant AGAIN.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She gives birth to Lani and Aria, then accidently sets the house on fire because she was cooking right before she stepped away to give birth.
Tumblr media
The girls quickly grow up as time flies. Lani gets the inappropriate trait and Aria gets the hydrophobic trait. And it's only while reviewing these images that I realized that Summer AND Winter both had blond hair in the beginning. I have no idea when and how her hair suddenly became black. Oh well. Maybe I removed her old hair and slapped on a new one. 🤷🏾‍♀️
Anyway, that's enough for now. We will see more from the Squall's soon.
Until next time.

Just The Three Of Us
Tumblr media
this was a fic i wrote for @clemmywrites hope u like it, milday! (also congrats on 100 followers)
Chapter 1
I looked around at the cat cafe I was in. It had just opened up in Kohana. It was a very aesthetically pleasing place, with pastel pink walls and pictures of cats all over the walls. The counter where the employees worked displayed many delicious looking treats.
There were cake pops in the shape of cat heads and some in the shape of kitty paws. There were fresh baked desserts on display along with the menu above on the wall.
I blushed at how cute everything was. This place had a ton of different drinks. Everything from teas, coffees, boba, to soda, juice, and flavored water. I always thought this place was so amazing, even thought it was my first time here.
Not to mention all the cats! There were kitties everywhere. Walking around to customers sitting at their kotatsu and rubbing up against them. Cats of all shapes, colors, sizes, and breeds. My favorite part about this was that all these cats were adopted from animal shelters and strays. The cafe promoted animal adoption and had a sister animal shelter in town.
As beautiful as the cafe around me was, the most breathtaking sight was the man in front of me. Neji Hyuga. Sitting cross legged he was dressed in his normal tunic robes and he wore his hair down. His leaf headband glinted in the soft pink lights.
I could fall in love with him every time I look at him. His eyes matched with the colors around them. In this light, he looked like a piece of art made just for this scene.
In his hands Neji was holding a small cup of green tea. He was currently looking around at all the cats that surrounded them. There was a grey and white striped cat that approached him and rubbed its face on his leg.
Neji let out a small laugh and set down his tea. He then leaned over and picked up the cat to bring to his cheat. The cat let out a small “mew” before getting comfy on Neji’s chest. I let out a laugh at that. Both Neji and the cat looked over at me.
I feel my face heat up at the softness in his eyes. He smiled a wide grin at me and held the cat out by its arms for me to hold.
“Long cat.” I commented as I took the cat  into my arms. I reached down to the cat’s collar and looked to see what their name was. ‘Olive-She/Her’ it read.
“Well hello Olive.” I said rubbing behind her ears.
“You must be named after your eyes, lady.” Neji commented, watching the two of us.
Indeed she must have been. Her eyes basically glowed a yellowish green that stood out from the rest of her face. I leaned down and kissed her on the head before letting her go.
“Are you enjoying yourself, milady?” He asked me. He was so stupidly charming.
“Oh! Of course! Thank you so much for the boba! You didn’t have to!” I said taking another sip of the strawberry boba I was drinking.
“Of course I did! And besides, out of everyone, you deserve it.” Neji said lovingly.
Truth be told he was overjoyed that they were together. She was such a positive force to everyone around her. He remembered when they had first met. She was spunky, powerful, but had her flaws.
She didn’t like him at first, but that didn’t stop Neji from falling head over heels for her. Over time they got to become closer. It had been a blessed toutrure for Neji. He had to live with the fact that although he was madly in love with her, she had no feelings for him.
Luckily he didn’t have to suffer very long. She had been overworking herself and got sick. He went to visit her in the medical ward. He stayed with her the whole time she healed.
He was so thankful for it because in that time he found out that she felt for him the way he felt for her. They had been dating ever since.
As Neji looked at her now, sipping boba and talking to cats, he felt as if his heart could explode from how gorgeous and wholesome it was.
“Looks like you have a friend.” I said and pointed beside him, snapping him out of the daydream he was having.
He glanced down and noticed a small kitten looking up at him. He held his hand out for the cat to sniff it. After giving Neji kisses the cat clumsily climbed over and curled up in Neji’s lap.
My heart exploded from the cuteness. The cat was a brown scottish fold kitten with light blue eyes that were now closed as the kitty was asleep in Neji’s lap.
Neji smiled and gently pet the kitty in his lap. I noticed that the kitten didn’t have a collar on like all of the other cats.
It wasn’t long until we had both finished our drinks. I thanked Neji again and we began to walk home. Back to the Hyuga estate.
He held my hand as we walked. We watched the sun set a blend of pink, orange and blue. It was so pretty I wanted nothing more than to go home and draw it!
By the time we made it home, the sun had set and dusk approached. Neji was about to open the door for me when we heard a small noise behind us. It was so quiet I wasn’t even sure If I had heard it at all.
But when we turned around there it was again. The sound turned out to be a meow. I looked out to see where the meow had come from when Neji called my name.
“Cammie look!” He said, pointing down. “It’s the cat from earlier. At the cafe.”
Sure enough it was the scottish fold kitten. To say I was surprised was an understatement.
“How did that little guy follow us all the way here?” I asked as I picked them up.
“I’m not sure.” Neji said, looking back at the dark path they had walked along. “Poor thing. We better bring them inside for the night.”
“But what about the cafe? Won't they be worried?” I asked.
“We can walk back tomorrow an return them. For now let the three of us proceed inside.” Neji said.
We walked into the Hyuga estate as Neji led the way. Although I had been here many times, Neji still had to tell me where to go. His place was enormous! How could I not get lost?
We made our way to his quarters and he ushered me inside. I had moved in with Neji soon after we started dating. I didn’t really have a choice in the matter because I was homeless before. I would crash at people’s houses and sleep around the streets. Until Neji let me stay with him.
Neji excused himself to the bathroom as I changed in the bedroom, setting the kitten down on the bed. I put on my favorite silk nightgown. It was pink, one of my favorite colors. I put my clothes away and sat down at my desk. I got out my sketch book and started doodling on the paper.
That’s when I felt something soft bump into the back of my leg. I looked down and saw the little kitten rubbing up against me.
“Hi little one!” I said as I reached down to pet it. At first it backed away, but then timidly sniffed my hand. Once they knew my scent the kitten actually bagan to lick my hand.
“I see you're getting along with your new best friend.” Neji said, walking into the room. He had changed into his pajamas which matched mine. Leave it to Neji to buy them matching silk pajamas.
“They’re so friendly! No wonder why they followed us home.”
Neji walked over and picked up the cat and gave me a kiss on the head. He placed the kitten on the bed, as I had previously done, and went to get his hair brush.
We have a custom that before bed we each brush each other’s hair. It started off as a way to make an excuse to stay up and talk, but turns out we love doing it.
I sketched more in my sketchbook as he ran the brush through my hair. Then it was my turn to return the favor. He sat on the bed as I brushed through his long hair.
When I was done I went to the bathroom to finish getting ready for bed. When I had returned Neji was opening the window. He knew I liked a cold room to sleep in because I overheat easily. And this way we could cuddle! He was so thoughtful.
Neji laid on his back and I put my head on his chest and used him as a pillow. For a long time we just laid like that and talked. It was his way of staying up with me due to my insomnia. His heartbeat was able to lull me to sleep after a while.
I felt a small thump on the bed and looked down to see the kitten walking along Neji. They curled up into a ball on Neji’s stomach and fell asleep. For the second time that night my heart exploded with cuteness.
The three of us drifted off to sleep together. The cat, Neji, and me.
Chapter 2
Before I even opened my eyes I could feel the sun on my face. Its bright warm rays shone down on my body, making me smile. For a moment I just sat there, with the sun on my face. I kept my eyes closed and listened to the birds call out the window.
I was so lost in the moment that I didn’t even hear Neji come in. He startled me when he spoke.
“Good morning starshine.” He said.
I opened my eyes and sat up. Which is when I noticed the tray he was holding. On it was our breakfast.
“Oh babe! You didn’t have to.” I said, my eyes wide.
“Yes of course I did! I made your favorite, scrambled eggs, cinnamon toast, strawberries and honey, and peach tea.” Neji smiled at me and my heart melted on the spot.
Neji walked over to me and placed the breakfast tray on the bed next to me. He then sat down across from me with the tray between us.
He had the same thing as me to eat. I watched him as he ate. Neji practically glowed in the morning light. The sunlight bounced off his silk shirt and his lilac eyes shone brightly in the sun. His gorgeous brown hair spilled down his back. I could not find him more handsome at this moment.
I took a bite of my scrambled eggs and savored the flavor. He knew just how to make them to perfection. We talked a bit as we ate our breakfast. Our main conversation topic was about the little brown kitten who was currently sleeping at the foot of our bed.
“What do you think we should do with them?” I asked, between bites of eggs and toast.
“We can walk them back to the shelter today.” Neji said. “Hopefully the workers weren't too worried about this little guy.”
We finished our breakfast in bed and began our morning routine. We dressed in our casual wear and tidied up our looks.
Not before long we met up at the door, along with the cat to begin our walk back to the cafe. Neji carried the little fur ball in his arms as we made our way back to the same path we walked last night.
After not long we made it back to the cafe where we ate last night. I could tell it wasn’t open but there were some employees setting up for opening.
I walked up to the girl opening.
“Hello,” I begin, “Me and my boyfriend ate here last night, by the way it was delightful. Anyway one of your kittens followed us home. It was late and we decided that the kitten should stay with us,” I began to panic and started to ramble. “W-we didn’t mean to steal the kitten! I promise! We came by this morning so we could return them. I’m blabbering, sorry.”
The lady looked back at me with an amused but interested look on her face. Neji made his way over to me still holding the little kitten. Which is when she noticed him.
“Oh my gosh there you are!” The girl said, taking the kitten from Neji’s arms. She looked back up at us happily.
“Thank you so much for making sure they are safe.” She bowed her head down and kissed the kitten on its head. “I’m in charge of the animals around here. Basically I just clean up after them, feed them and in general keep track of them.
“This little fella nearly gave me a heart attack last night when he wasn’t in his crate. I figured he was hiding somewhere. The poor fella was an orphan when we found him. Nearly starved to death and alone. All we could tell was that he was male but we still haven’t named him. The other cats don’t really seem to like him that well and he spends most of his time alone.”
“Awwww baby.” Neji said, rubbing the cat behind its ears.
“This is the most I’ve ever seen him interact with others. He’s usually so shy and timid that he never goes around to customers. He must have really liked you.”
She had a warm smile on her face as she talked about the kitten.
“I’m glad we were able to return him safe and sound.” Neji said, with a proud smile on his face.
“Goodbye little guy.” I said giving the kitten one last pat on the head. I looked over at Neji and we turned to leave when the last spoke up again.
“Wait! Why don’t you guys take him home with you? It’s obvious he likes you. And he would probably be way more comfortable with you guys than here.”
“Oh gosh are you sure? I’d feel bad just taking him from you.” I said. Truth be told I really wanted to adopt this lil fluffy fuzz ball.
“You guys would have to go out and buy cat supplies, but yes you can take him. All the cats at our cafe are for adoption so you are doing us a favor.” She said while smiling.
When I looked over at Neji he looked just as excited as I was.
“We’ll take him!” Neji said.
I took the kitten from the lady working there and thanked her again. And again.
“Really you guys are helping us. Good luck little buddy.’ She said, rubbing the cat’s head.
And with that, me, Neji, and our new kitten walked back into town to go buy some cat supplies.
Chapter 3
“What do you think will look better, the pink collar or the blue collar?” I asked Neji. We had gone to the pet shop in town to get kitty supplies.
Neji insisted that we bring the kitten along with us. We stopped back at home and Neji got an old stroller he had from when he and Hiniata were babies. He filled it with blankets and made sure the kitten was comfortable.
“Why don’t we let our little man decide.” Neji said. He took both collars from my hand and held them up to the kitten. The little fella wobbled forward and sniffed the blue collar.
“Well I guess it’s decided then.” I say. Neji puts the pink collar back and adds the blue one to our cart.
“Okay so far all we only have is the collar, kitty litter, a cat carrier, cat stand, litter box, grooming kit, cat food, a bed, toys, and treats.” Neji said, looking down at the list he was holding.
“Yeah, only.” I said back to him.
“We still need to get food bowls, a harness and some outfits.”
“What does he need outfits for? He’s fluffy enough to keep warm. And it's not like it gets cold here.” I asked.
“You never know when he is going to need to dress up for a formal event.” Neji said.
“Yeah because there are so many formal cat events in Kohana.” I said, rolling my eyes.
“You never know.” He said and pushed the stroller forward. I was pushing our shopping cart alongside him. He insisted on pushing the stroller because he wanted everyone to meet ‘his new son’ as he had said.
We made our way to the food bowl section. There must be at least a million bowls to choose from there. In the end we went with a simple wooden set with one bowl having the japanese symbol for ‘food’ and the other having the symbol for ‘water’.
We then picked out a harness to match the blue collar we got. I promised Neji we would look for outfits for our kitten but we couldn’t find any. Needless to say, Neji was pretty disappointed. But he quickly got over it when I suggested that we just get them custom made.
We made our way to the front and checked out. Satisfied with our purchases, we walked back home.
Chapter 4
“There. That should be good” Neji said as he stepped back to admire his handiwork. We had just finished setting up everything for our new cat. Food bowls were in the kitchen, litter was in the corner of our room.
We had even re-done our closet to make it more cat friendly. In it we had all the kitty supplies organized in there along with extra space for the custom kitty clothes that Neji had custom ordered.
He really was serious when he said that. I laughed. Always so dorky and cute. And with the Hyuga family’s money he really could make any wish he had come true.
Our little man was over by our bed sniffing around. Probably getting used to his new home and making himself comfortable. The cuteness he raidaded made me blush.
“Hey Cammie.” Neji said, walking in through the door.
“Oh, hi Cammie.” Hinata said shyly. She followed behind Neji.
“Hinata wanted to come and see our new addition to the family. She was curious when I told her we adopted a kitten.”
“Hi Hinata.” I said, smiling up at her from where I sat on the ground watching the kitten. She sat down next to me.
Neji walked over to our currently unnamed kitten and picked him up. He let out a small ‘mew’ of protest but then obliged. Neji then walked over to where we were sitting.
Hinata gasped when Neji handed her the kitten. She gently cupped him in her hands as he snuggled into her. She gently stroked his fur as he sniffed her finger.
“Oh my gosh you guys! He’s so cute and soft!” She said, blushing. “Do you guys know what his name is yet?”
“Actually we don’t have a name yet-” Neji began.
“Henry.” I interrupt. “His name is henry.”
Neji smilied. He had remembered when I had mentioned that a few weeks back. I had said that if I had ever got to write my own novel, that I would name the main character Henry.
“You’re such an adorable cammie.” Neji said, walking over to me. He helped me stand up so I could face him. He cupped my face in his hands and pressed a soft kiss on my lips.
The familiar feeling of a soft fire in my belly as his lips met mine. I sighed into him as he wrapped his arms around my waist. I loved it when he held me close like that.
“You guys are so cute together.” Hinata said, smiling at us. She gently set out newly named kitten, Henry, down and stood up. “I'll go make us some tea.”
Hinata walked out of the room leaving the two of us alone. Neji walked over to pick up Henry again. He gently laid him in my arms and we sat down on the bed together.
Neji had Henry in his lap and my head on his shoulder. Our new boy was fast asleep in his lap and my eyes feel heavy with the lack of sleep I had been getting.
“You can relax now, my love. I am here.” Neji always made me feel most calm when I was with him.
“I love you.” I say, as I place my hand on Henry’s head and gently scratch it. I flop back on the bed and Neji follows suit.
Poor Henry got spooked and his little head popped up to look at us. He let out another little ‘mew’ before walking over Neji to make biscuits on my chest.
Me and Neji both looked over at each other and looked into each other's eyes and let out an ‘awww’ in unison.
Just Neji, Henry, and I. The three of us. Against the world. I was completely at peace right now.
“I love you so much.” Neji whispered in my ear.
“I love you too.”

Fanfic recommendations part six: 100% Alternate Universe stories.
Hey! It took me a while to post this and I’m sorry, got too caught up with, well, you know, life (ew). But I’m back!
All the stories listed in this are stories are 100% AU (yes, I’m including the Soulmate AU’s in this category). I’ve read and enjoyed them all.
Accidentally In Love by the bohemian flow.
Rachel Hyde was a witness to a strange romance that blossomed between her twin brother, Steven, and Jackie Burkhart, of all people. Her and Steven weren't the biggest fans of Jackie, but now, he loves her. How could Rachel possibly put up with her brother's girlfriend?
AU where Hyde has a sister. Not 100% focused on J/H, since it’s from Hyde’s sister POV, but it’s still pretty good.
This story is a WIP and it’s being updated constantly.
109k words, 28 chapters so far.
Rated T.
Pairings: Jackie/Hyde, OC/Kelso, OC/Eric, Eric/Donna.
A Different Start Could Lead to a Better End by SoftBubbles
Instead of Hyde meeting her as Kelso's annoying girlfriend, what if he met her as his annoying English partner, whom he quickly learns is more than she seems.
This story is not complete, it was last updated on July of 2020, and I pray for the author to come back to it one day, it’s a really good story.
Trigger warning for child abuse.

Bad Moon on the Rise by Badfanfic
Set around season 2. Jackie starts to develop feelings for Hyde, even though its the last thing she wants. Hyde is just trying to survive but is having difficulty controlling himself, especially around a certain cheerleader.
Hyde is a werewolf in this story. And THIS IS GOOD Y’ALL, I’ve read this like 10 times already.
Unfortunally, I think this story is abandoned, the last time the author updated was in June of 2020, but I still have hope, it’s really good and I’m DYING to read more. I absolutely adore stories with supernatural elements, and it’s so hard to find good ones in this fandom. Please read this.

An AU where Jackie and Hyde get themselves in one of those fake relationship situation and somewhere along the way, they find somethings in commun. Highly inspired in every cliché Rom Com ever made, including Netflix's most recents TATBILB and Isi and Ossi.

I believe this is all!
I’ll repeat this at the end of every single post (seriously, I literally copy and paste this every single time): Speaking as someone who writes, it would be really cool if you guys decide to leave a review (or a comment, if the story is on AO3) in the stories you read, especially the unfinished ones. It really motivates the authors, and receiving a compliment is always a mood lifter. I’ve seen some authors updating stories after years because of nice reviews, so… yeah, this is just an idea.
Feel free to reply to this post if you think I left out a good story!

What's this??? Niragi and chishiya turn into cats! Now its up to nijiro and Dori to take care of them. (Pre borderland)
Tumblr media
Pre-BorderKitties
Characters: Dori Sakurada, Nijiro Murakami, Niragi Suguru (Technically), Chishiya Shuntaro (Also technically-)
Genre: Fluff. Just a bit of soft times with kitties.
1.4k words
I did it, after so long of this thing sitting in my inbox. I hope I did it justice, even if I never mentioned how they even turned into cats in the first place! Look, I even made a custom liner for this-
Tumblr media
The knock at the door wasn’t foreign to Sakurada. Sometimes people come by to have a chat with him, usually either close friends coming over to visit, or occasionally a delivery person bringing him his packages. He gets up, his dog Fanta napping happily as he strides over to the door, opening it and being greeted by a very familiar face.
“ Sakurada! Sorry for bothering you, but-“ Sakurada holds a hand out to stop his junior, Nijiro Murakami, from bowing too far, a small box in hand. “ No worries. What’s going on?” Sakurada asks, stepping aside to let Murakami inside. Murakami nods his head in thanks as he steps inside, taking off his shoes and putting on the house sandals that were neatly laid out for any guests, Sakurada following behind as they head to the living room together.
Murakami sets the box on the table, the kind meant for carrying fruits like oranges or melons, and there was a faint noise coming from the inside. Curious, Sakurada bends down to peek into the hole at the side, eyes widening as a little face peeks out in return.
“ Are those….?”
Murakami nods, and he pulls open the flap, Sakurada peering inside. There, nestled on a nest made of a black and white towel, were two little cats, one of them half buried in the towel while the other was wide awake, staring up at Sakurada. The cat was a smooth white colour, with a slight tinge of grey at the top of its head as well as little spots on its body. The cat hops out and pads away, Murakami sighing as they watch the cat leave.
“ I found them huddled together near the studio, and the director said I should probably get them somewhere safer, since they’re filming and people are gonna be everywhere. This one, the black coloured cat?” He points to the one still in the box, which appeared to be shaking out of fear, pulling at Sakurada’s heartstrings. “ He was absolutely terrified at anyone who approached him, I think he was hurt before….. Poor thing.” Sakurada nods, just observing the cat. Unlike its counterpart, this one was the opposite, a dark colour with patches of a lighter shades on its body, much more frequent than the white one. “ Do they have names?” Murakami chuckles. “ Actually, yeah. See, when we were discussing the shoot, our characters names came up at one point. You know, Niragi and Chishiya? And, well-“ Murakami gestures at the box again, the kitten now peering up at the two of them from a hole in the towel, dark eyes nervous yet curious. “ They respond to it like it’s their names. So I decided this one is Niragi, and the white one is Chishiya! Like our characters! I think they were both boys as well, so it fits!” “ I see…. Isn’t this Niragi a bit skittish though? So it’s more appropriate to call this one the Niragi before the main plot. Pre-Borderlands.” Sakurada points out, Murakami nodding. Niragi had buried himself back into the towel, Murakami shutting the lid shut again to give the cat some privacy. Chishiya on the other hand was gone, hidden away where Sakurada hopes he wasn’t messing the area up. He’d hate to find it later covered in unmentionables because the cat decided to use it as his personal bathroom.
Still, he wasn’t sure why Murakami even decided to bring them here of all places. They were cute, sure, but he wasn’t a cat owner and didn’t have any of the proper materials to even watch over a cat long term, let alone two. If they were puppies, he’d be a little more prepared, and maybe Fanta could even play with them. But these were cats, and with one obviously skittish and the other clearly wanting nothing to do with them, they probably wouldn’t have gotten along as he’d hope.
Still, no point in not trying. He gets up and heads to the kitchen. They had to be thirsty and hungry, right? He could get them some water and some fish easy, Sakurada opening his fridge and grabbing some leftover fish. He turns on his stove, pouring a little oil to lubricate the pan. He chops up the fish into smaller, more manageable bites for the cats, and tosses that in, letting the fish cook a little.
The smell soon begins to linger, although not terribly strong of a smell, but out of the corner of his eye he spots a small presence of white staring at him from around the counter corner. Sakurada glances over and smiles, Chishiya not moving from his position, merely licking his lips at the smell. So he was hungry. That was good. Sakurada plates the cooked fish soon enough, and pours water into a bowl for the cats. He carries both out a bit further, setting them down on the ground and walking away. Murakami smiles at him in appreciation, and he opens the box, peering inside.
“ Hey, it’s lunchtime now….. It’s okay, we’re not here to hurt you.” Murakami says, in hopes of reassuring the black cat. There was no response, Murakami frowning a little and looking up at Sakurada. Sakurada just gently takes the box and sets it on the ground near the water and fish, tilting it over so Niragi could come out eventually at his own pace. He steps away and sits across Murakami, the both watching the area.
It was a slow movement, but eventually the box shifts, and Niragi comes padding out, coming closer to the food and water. The two adults watch in anticipation as Niragi sniffs at the fish, then gingerly takes one piece. “ Yes…!” Sakurada mutters under his breath with a smiles, Murakami smiling nearby. Niragi drops the piece on the ground and slowly takes a few bites, huddled close to the ground as he ate. Chishiya was nowhere to be seen, Sakurada looking around. He swore he saw the white cat somewhere earlier….
“ Oh- Look, there he is!” Murakami points, and Sakurada looks back over, the white cat appearing from practically nowhere and approaching the water bowl, dipping its head and drinking without a single glance at either party, cat or human. Niragi practically scoots away the moment Chishiya came over, apparently even scared of the other cat despite no clear notice of the latter. The poor thing, really, if it was that skittish of everything. Sakurada hopes he’d be okay, the cat looked rather young still.
He laughs internally to himself. Maybe this Niragi would undergo the same personality change like the character would, becoming more confident and perhaps more destructive to whoever had the misfortune of keeping them.
“ You’re going to take them to a shelter later, right?” Sakurada looks to Murakami, who was also watching the cats eat and drink. Murakami turns his head towards him, mouth opening and closing as he thought.
“ I don’t know, honestly. Probably. I don’t know if I can handle them for that long, and I wasn’t really planning on adopting two cats out of the blue. They deserve better than that.” Murakami pouts a little, turning his attention back to the cats, Chishiya having already started eating while Niragi remained curled up nearby. But just for a few days, I want to keep an eye on them, you know? They’re just so cute, and we can post about them online so maybe they can be adopted that way?” “ You’re attached, aren’t you~” Sakurada smirks, Murakami sputtering.
“ Wh- Hey, okay maybe a little-“ Murakami gestures loosely to the cats, Chishiya now grooming himself. “ They didn’t run away immediately when I approached them, so I felt like, cool!” Sakurada laughs a little at that, smiling. “ You are pretty cool. Ahh, okay, we can take care of them for a little bit. But you’re helping me, okay? I have things to do too, and since you were the one to bring me them…” He leans over, nudging him playfully with an elbow. Murakami nods, smiling. “ Of course! It’s the least I can do!”
There was a small meow, and both men look down, Chishiya staring up at them with what Sakurada swore looked almost smug, then padding his furry little body onto Murakami’s lap, judging by how the younger man’s eyes widen as he stares at his lap. Murakami looks over to Sakurada with a loose grin, mouthing about how Chishiya had curled up oh so casually on his lap and pointing, Sakurada chuckling airily and nodding.
A second meow and the feeling of something nudging his leg catches his attention, and Sakurada looks down, Niragi ducking underneath the table instead the moment Sakurada took notice of the cat, his little tail still peeking out as Sakurada chuckles. Close enough, but he didn’t mind giving them shelter for a bit. It’d be fun, and honestly…. yeah, they were adorable.

Feline Trouble
Scenario: Gin adopting a cat and leaving it with her brother on his day off.
Notes: In celebration of the release of BSD WAN, here’s a little fluff piece as a gift! Speaking of which, I do hope we get to feast our eyes on thirst trap Aku more often :) I never had a cat myself so if something seems off please understand! This is not a aku x reader fic! Just him being soft.
Warnings: None! Just fluffs and my bad writing hehehe
tags: @akutaguagua you said you want Aku content so-
Tumblr media
Akutagawa Ryunosuke, one of the most fearsome members of the Port Mafia, is currently troubled by a tedious matter.
His dear sister, Gin, brought a guest home yesterday. Well, one cannot define the creature as a guest anymore, since it had literally made itself at home in the apartment.
Akutagawa was against keeping it at first since their professions are more demanding than regular jobs. But facing Gin’s pleading eyes, and how she found the cat in an abandoned alley, he simply cannot say the right word “no”.
He knows what life’s like in the slums too well, after all. No way he would bear to let anyone, even a cat, go back there.
Now one of his few days off is being ruined. Letting out a sigh of frustration, Akutawgwa kept on telling himself that Gin is going to be home soon, she is supposed to be the one responsible for this. He was watching his favourite channel on the sofa when the kitten suddenly jumped upon his lap. Luckily Akutagawa never puts the work coat on at home, or Gin could come home to the remains of the poor kitty.
The little kitten is now curled up on his lap, its small form is covered in white fur decorated with few black stripes. He suppose it doesn’t look too hideous. The internet research tells Akutagawa that domestic cats can get quite heavy, so this thing better not make this a habit.
Is it...snoring? How foolish. How can it fall asleep on him when it has only known him for a day? Sleeping in someone’s presence demands full trust to the other person, knowing they would not attack you while you are in a vulnerable state. Baby animals...tch.
It was a matter of time before his legs became numb since the cat had trapped him. Akutagawa ...also needs to use the washroom.
It would be rude to wake someone up, but...
“Hey, wake up.” Poking its nose with a finger, the young man was startled when the cat’s tongue licked the said finger. To add insult to injury, the cat simply yawned and closed its eyes once more.
Akutagawa Ryunosuke doesn't have a choice but to scoop it up and set it aside. He thought he had succeeded in getting rid of the bother.
“Can I have some privacy in the bathroom?? Get out!”
His lifespan would certainly be shortened if this thing keeps hanging around. It should be Gin’s responsibility! Not his.
Well, at least its fur doesn't feel bad. It feels quite nice actually. That is the least this cat can do, letting Akutagwa run his fingers through soft fur to make up for the inconvenience.
Unknownst to him, Gin is quietly observing this scene from the entrance. Her brother is petting the cat, with a little smile on his lips?? She knew an adorable pet would loosen him up. He can be so uptight sometimes, even when at home with only her. Gin is sure the two troublemakers will get along just fine.

———————————————————————
The outside was warm and welcoming, a seemingly happy place. Within the moment of enter that building you’re exposed to harsh conditions. Just because you’re DNA was partners with felines and canines doesn’t mean you wanted to be treated like one. The moment they took you into their sugary sweet arms you should have known that facade was gonna slip away sooner rather then later. Oh god, how you wished you noticed those fake smiles that were planted along their faces and maybe you wouldn’t be ducking behind dirty dumpster right about now.
The pungent aroma radiating from the dumpster was making your stomach churn in displeasure.
“Moments like these make me wish I didn’t have heightened senses.” You gagged while trying to pinch your nose together to avoid the smell. It was working for the most part, but things can never stay good for a long time. Your body froze at the movement from the other side of the dumpster started getting louder. Your fur was spiked and your ears twitched rapidly in each direction, determined to figure out the source of the noise. You’ve heard of the violence that hybrids faced the moment predators spotted them alone.
“Come on little kitty! We just want to play!” A voice sung out as they skipped down the alley way.
The high pitched laugh wasn’t what caught your attention, it was the sound of something hard scraping against the beat up walls of the alley. Your body froze in fear the closer it got. The closer it got it was like more voices were being added to the mix.
“We got her boys!”
Your body couldn’t register the harsh grip upon your forearm until it was took late. The bruises were already forming as their thick fingernails were breaking skin. You watched in horror as your body collided with the cold ground. Their laughter was beginning to amplify as it echoed in your head. The pounding headache was slowly killing you the longer their loud voice screeched in your head.
“Hold her. We can’t let her get away!”
Despite the heavy pain you immediately lashed as soon as their grimy hands made contact with your skin. You were not gonna go out like this, you couldn’t. You had only just gotta away from that god forsaken shelter and you weren’t giving up easily. The breath was knocked from your body forcefully as a ring clad hand collided with you stomach. The overwhelming urge to vomit was beginning to take place.
“Should’ve stayed at the shelter little one,” One spat in your ear as small droplets of spit reached the side of your face. The same one took a fistful of your hair and gave harsh tugs upon the roots. “How about let’s mark up that pretty little face.”
With that statement he pushed your head to the side as he crouched down. You could feel the small stream of blood leaving your forehead from the smack to the ground.
“You lay a hand on her and I won’t hesitate to kill you.” A cock of a gun made your damp ears perk up more. Whoever was talking seemed to intimidate the few people that were gathered around your helpless body. “Come on let’s get you someplace safe.”
You winced as your hand made contact with what felt like glass, as you tried to scoot away. Who knows what this mans intentions were, they could probably be worse then those guys who almost took a knife to you. You felt your head bob slightly and a quiet no pass though your dry lips. “Stay a-away.”
“Look I promise I’m not a bad guys, I’m only trying to help.” The man said calmly and took cautious step towards you. His hand that once held the gun reaching out for your wounded one. “Please, I have my partners at home. They’ll know how to fix you back up.”
You only stared with narrow eyes the best you could. Your body was giving into the blood lost and you could be out cold in a few minutes. “You have to promise you’ll h-help.”
“Cross my heart.” The man took your clean hand and wrapped it around his shoulders. His arms wrapped around your waist as he guided you to his car. “Please stay awake, Jimin!”
Another man bursted from the driver side of the car, panic evident in his voice, “Jungkook, are you okay?”
“Yes I’m fine, but we need to help her.”
Jimin gave a curt nod of his head as he quickly opened the doors to the back seat. Jungkook held your body loosely, but never failed to make sure you were comfortable. What felt like forever before pulling up to an expensive looking mansion.
“Jin hyung!” The moment that name pounded off the walls of the house many stomping feet scurried into the room. “Please help her.”
The seven men quickly laid you comfortably across the crouch and pulled out a small first aid kit. They seemed to back off the moment Jin props your head up. You felt the needle dig into the cut on your forehead as you clenched your fist to distract yourself the pain. Big mistakes as that hand was the one that had glass shards embedded within it.
Soft hands cupped your hurt one as you felt cool tweezers skim across the skin. They pulled the glass out one by one and patched up any other wounds your body may have received. You couldn’t help how heavy your eyes felt and pretty sure you were out cold like you predicted.
“Wow, be careful.” A soft voice spoke as they stepped closer. The mere thought of their hands touching you sent you into a frenzy as you pushed yourself against the couch in attempt to get far away. Your ears and tail were spiked and you could felt the claws were aching to tear some flesh.
“Hobi, she’s skittish be careful. Hi I’m Jin.” Jin smiled as he took little steps towards and to his surprise you didn’t move away. You actually leaned forwards. His shaky hands reached up slightly to brush away the dirt that had collected on your ears.
“You’re the o-o-one who helped me.” You stated and tried to sit up. A pain from your gut shot through your body and forced you to sit down.
The man nodded as he sat down beside you and motioned towards the one named Hobi. “He also helped, he got the glass from your hand.”
You cocked your head to the side and scanned the man up and down. You took in many things, but the man himself seemed rather harmless. “I’m sorry, I’m just so used to being a little spooked.”
Hobi gave a quick nod in understanding as he made his way to you. He gripped Jin’s hands as they both stared with concerned eyes.
“How about I make breakfast?” Jin asked and gave a small smile when you shook your head rapidly. Jin quickly captured Hobi’s lips in a small kiss as he set off. “Hobi can show you the shower?”
Oh so Jungkook was meaning partners partners not just partners, who would’ve knew.
His large hand was held out for you as you hesitately took it. The small circles he was rubbing on your hand was soothing and provided a much needed comfort that you haven’t had in a long time.
“Here’s your stop, I’ll be right back.” He smiled before setting off down the long hallway and quickly reappeared with some baggy clothes. “Yell and well be here faster then light.”
Hoseok felt pride burst within his chest when you small hand gave a slight clutch to his before entering the bathroom. As soon as the door closed he raced to find the boys. They needed to figure out a plan and fast.
“We gotta talk about this.” Yoongi sighed, as he gestured towards the bathroom. His eyes held skeptical glare within them as he eyed Jungkook and Jimin. Both boys seems to cower away at the death glare their hyung was giving them.
“She was getting attack! I was gonna help her!” Jungkook defended quietly. “Besides if this goes well maybe we’ll have a new addition to the family.”
Yoongi painfully resisted the urge to role his eyes at the young ones. He knew the business they were in would put her in danger even more. Their enemies would use the poor hybrid as leverage every single chance they got. Yoongi had went through that once he wasn’t gonna get attached again. ‘No, I’m putting my foot down. We’re not keeping her. We’ll let her eat and then she’s on her way.”
1 YEAR LATER
That was the first memory you had of meeting your new family. Almost everyone took you in within a second though and never failed to show you how much they loved you. Others took a bit of convincing. He had his walls up and high and you understood that. You were the exact same way when you first came, but had you not let them down you’d never be able to call these people you’re family.
You couldn’t imagine what life would be like now. No late night movies with Taehyung, trying new recipes with Jin or smothering Yoongi In concerning words and praises when he needed it the most. You loved these boys, but sometimes it does get overwhelming. They loved each other to the moon and back and you feel as if you’ve stepped in the middle and made things tense.
“Guys can I talk to you?” You question as you fiddled with the soft black fur of your tail. You could feel your heart about to burst from your chest the longer it took to get their attention.
“Yes, princess?” Namjoon soothed down the spiked fur of your ears with gentle fingers. A loving dimple smile stretched across his face as he watched you lean into his touch. The more time he took to stare at your beautiful features the more his palms became sweaty, his breathing was getting deeper. He knew the reason behind all of this. They all did.
You wiped your hands rapidly across your jean clad legs. You needed to get these words out and the sooner the better. Oh, god every time you tried to even muster of the courage it faded away the moment your eyes locked with theirs. The concerned looks only adding to the heartbreak. “I think it’s best I leave.”
You held your head down towards your lap, almost ashamed of even asking to leave. These men have done everything for you, but the guilt of getting inbetween was growing too much for you to handle alone. You didn’t want to cause them anymore problems.
“Why would you want leave, I thought...I thought you enjoyed it here.” Jungkook whispered to himself as his hand clenched around Taehyung’s thigh. His eyes looked like they swelling up in tears when he finally looked up. “What did we do wrong?”
Your heart seemed to physically break even more when those words echoed in your ears. They think you’re leaving because of them. You had seemed to cause so much problems recently and you couldn’t bare to stand it any longer. “It’s just recently everything’s been...quite. You all are talking in secret a lot more and you’ve left me out of the meetings. When usually you all seemed to like me being their. I think I’m getting in the way of your relationship.”
Their faces fell with realization as they fully took in your words. All the late night conversation that were mumbled do too the hard walls to not wanting others to see her during certain meetings. It was all connecting like puzzle pieces in their heads.
“We were gonna ask this at a better time, but I think now is perfect !” Hobi smiled and reached across the chair to hold your hands. The soothing circle reminding of the first time he ever held your hand.
“You’re not coming in between any princess. We actually wanted you to be part of it. All those things were just us talking about how to bring it up.”
It took a minute to have the words set fully in your brain. They wanted you to be apart of this? They all loved you enough to want to be more then just mere friends.
“So what do you say?” Yoongi asked quietly as he leaned forward with anticipation. Their eyes held hopeful gleams while staring at you with so much love. They’ve loved you for longest time and they couldn’t stand it to not be with you anymore
“I’d love to be with you all.”

READ THE TRIGGER WARNING: This post contains mentions and descriptions of abusive relationships, ownership of significant others, threats, violence, and death. The behaviors and relationships depicted below are abusive and unhealthy. These are not examples of healthy relationships, it’s actually the opposite. This is meant to imagine the members of Ateez in a popular anime trope and it in no way represents their real-life personalities and characters. Real-life ATEEZ are actually known for being some of the kindest, most respectful idols in the industry. It’s fiction, it’s for fun, PLEASE DON’T READ IT IF YOU KNOW YOU WON’T LIKE IT OR THIS KIND OF STUFF DISTURBS YOU!
Author’s Note: @zafira-profundis I’m really sorry about how long it took me to get to this. I hope you don’t mind that I made the reader a hybrid in this scenario, I just thought it would really fit for some reason. I don’t think it really hinders with anything else in your request. I have no clue why I keep putting yandere san and yandere hongjoong in these dystopian settings, but I think it really fits them for some reason. It was a very interesting request and I had a lot of fun writing it, just like your last one. Your prompts really make me go out of my comfort zone and spread my writing wings haha. With this one, I’m not quite sure I met the expectations I set for this imagine, but I still hope you like it. Best wishes to you, hope you enjoy the writing, and come back to request again!
Genre: angst??? Idk, this ended up having a very strange vibe to it to me, it’s not nearly as emotional as property of the pirate king

The first time you met Kim Hongjoong was when your owner, San, went to his tattoo shop for a consultation.
Most owners would leave their hybrids home for such affairs, but you had long since learned that San was far from most owners.
In another world, Hongjoong probably wouldn’t have made such an intimidating figure. After all, he wasn’t that tall nor that broad. Maybe if his hair was a natural color and he wore pastels and went to college and studied like all the other kids his age and he didn’t have that predatory look in his eye and authority in his voice, you would mistake him for being normal, for someone you could be friends with.
But this wasn’t the case. Because Hongjoong’s hair was a bright cold silver and the long silver rattail braids that hung from his head would have been out of place on anyone else but somehow he seemed to make it work. He had countless piercings in his ears, one in his eyebrow, and a flash of silver whenever he spoke told you that there was most likely one in his tongue as well. He wore custom clothes that he decorated with his own drawings, beautiful but haunting and somehow, at the ripe age of twenty-one, he was already a celebrated tattoo artist in the area.
San had let you see Hongjoong’s portfolio online when he was debating having him do his tattoo. You could see why he was so widely sought after. But there seemed to be something sinister that radiated from every line he drew, something that made you hiss, the fur on your tail standing up straight in alarm.
“And who’s this little kitten?” Hongjoong says, giving you a friendly smile, something dark and murky lurking in his black eyes that made you half-hide behind San.
San smiled proudly, petting your fluffy ears and saying, “This is Y/N. They’re a ragdoll-Persian mix. Say hi, Y/n.”
You looked at Hongjoong who rose an eyebrow.
“Hello,” you mumbled before immediately diverting your gaze downward.
Hongjoong chuckled. “They’re adorable.”
San was in a good mood today, hyper and friendly, easily distracted. He was completely oblivious to the way Hongjoong kept looking at you throughout the consultation.
The way he would lick his lips, eyes raking over your frame, your ears twitching toward every little sound you heard, your large fluffy tail curled around you protectively. He was like a starving man, and you a five-course meal, the only thing that could quench his hunger after so long being empty.
“How long have you had them?” Hongjoong asked lightly at the end of the consultation. His assistant was busy booking San into Hongjoong’s schedule next week and San was busy staring at you, holding you so tight to his side that you could barely breathe, petting your ears so roughly that you could barely tolerate it.
He was like a child, the lack of empathy in their small brains preventing them from seeing how rough they were treating the pretty pet they liked to play with.
But you didn’t dare say anything to him, you’d learned to stay silent a long time ago.
“Around 2,047 days, why?”
The assistant looked at San a bit startled, but Hongjoong said nothing, just smiled and chuckled. “You two seem very close,” he said.
You didn’t think that explained at all why he seemed to be so interested in you, but you said nothing as San nuzzled his face into your ears and hair. “Closer than glue,” he chirped.
As Hongjoong watched the two of you walk out of the shop, he knew he had to have you.
He’d never been interested in a hybrid before, never really been interested in any sort of companionship, no matter the species. But something about you he had to have. He had never seen anything more beautiful, more admirable, than his client’s little kitty.
Soon to be his kitty.
“His name is Choi San, the hybrid’s name is Y/N. This is his address and phone number. That should be enough to start them on the right path if they’re as good as you say they are. Tell them to find out whatever they can in a week. I want them with me within a week after his appointment at the latest.”
Seonghwa nodded, his face cold and expressionless as it always was as he took the slip of paper Hongjoong handed him.
The silver-haired man watched his friend’s limo pull off into the purple haze of the setting sun.
His chest swelled with excitement and a sense of cruel satisfaction as he glanced at the sketch that would be adorning San’s body in the next week.
He would make sure that he’d only have you after he did the tattoo.
He wanted San to have that reminder of you for the rest of his life. Wanted him to know that it was the man he trusted with his own skin that took his precious kitty.
When Hongjoong next saw San, the normally cheery boy had a frown on his face the entire time he was getting his tattoo.
You were nowhere in sight.
Despite craving to see you again after going so long without looking at what would soon be his prized possession, Hongjoong couldn’t help but smirk when he saw San walk into the tattoo parlor by himself.
He was just making this entirely too easy for Hongjoong.
San was too distraught to notice Hongjoong slip his phone out and send a quick text before they got started.
For someone with the reputation San had, Hongjoong found the man to be absurdly trusting.
He told Hongjoong all about his terrible week, how he’d been fired from his job, how there was an investigation pending against him for several work and personal related charges, how one of his rental properties had been destroyed in a fire, how his car had broken down.
Never before in his life had things gone so wrong in such a short span of time.
And, of course, San had the money to fix these things instantly, but it was more the fact that things were going wrong in the first place that was causing him such distress.
San didn’t like things going wrong.
“All done,” Hongjoong said with a smile.
It was beautiful, a depiction of San’s precious kitten on his left bicep that almost compared to the beauty of the real thing.
“It’s great, Hongjoong, wow, you really are talented,” San beamed.
Hongjoong said nothing, just stared at San as he skipped up to the cashier to pay.
For once in the week, something seemed to be going right.
“Do you have another card, sir?” the cashier asked, frowning. “This one’s being declined for insufficient funds.”
“What?” San yelped.
He had two other black cards and the cashier tried them each three times. Declined every single time.
Furious, San just took out a wad full of cash and threw it onto the counter, ignoring the cashier’s calls for him to wait for his receipt as he stomped out of the tattoo parlor, already on the phone yelling to the bank.
The final straw came that very same night.
“You’re looking like the cat that ate the canary,” Seonghwa drawled after a mouthful of steak.
Hongjoong smirked from across the table at his friend, raising his phone and flipping it around to show him.
It was a video, some sort of CCTV footage it seemed.
You were in a shelter, beaten, bruised, half-alive.
It was a gruesome, stomach-churning sight and Seonghwa just rose a perfectly sculpted eyebrow.
“A break-in,” Hongjoong said simply, taking the phone back and sliding it into his pocket as he continued to eat. “On the day when he came for his tattoo. When he got home, the culprits were still there. Mysterious enemies from a shady underground life full of law-breaking.”
Hongjoong took a sip of his scotch and smirked. “So sad that he was taken into custody, leaving poor little Y/N all alone.”
Seonghwa gave a mirthless chuckle, the whole situation seeming to be quite amusing to him.
“You’re evil,” he said.
“Not evil,” Hongjoong replied as he wiped his mouth and pulled out his wallet, tossing the cash for his meal onto the table and standing. “Just determined.”
Seonghwa was still laughing as Hongjoong left the restaurant, already knowing the location of your shelter by heart.
He was in no rush.
The staff knew very well that there was only one person permitted to adopt you and they would pay dearly if the tried to stand in the way of Hongjoong and his new trophy.
Your entire body ached as you lay on the oversized dog bed that was standard for all hybrids at an orphanage.
It was cramped but better than catching pneumonia from the freezing concrete floor.
The thin blanket did nothing to stop your shivers which was unfortunate because every movement was agony.
You should be used to it.
San would go into regular fits of rage and this was not the first beating you had received.
But the beating combined with the stress of being ripped away from your home and owner and tossed into a shelter, unsure of your fate once again, was starting to weigh heavily on you now that the initial days of shock were over with.
You weren’t particularly attached to San or your home with him, it was rare for hybrids to come across owners that it was worth getting attached to at all. But at least with San you knew what to expect.
At least there you had relative stability.
“This is the nearest veterinarian,” you heard a soft, feminine voice speak, floating in and out of your head as you began to lose consciousness for the pain. No one wasted money on pain-killers for a hybrid without an owner.
“We can have them come here, or to your residence to tend to them. You could, of course, drive to the vet and have them take care of Y/N there, but with all they’ve been through recently, I wouldn’t advise it.”
Your eyes widened when you heard your name.
Sound became hard to decipher and the conversation sounded like it was occurring underwater, but you could at least make out the sound of your enclosure opening.
And you immediately know the face of the man who was crouching in front of you, about to claim you for his own.
“Hello, kitten. Miss me?”
As you looked at his pretty face, shining silver hair, and deep sinister eyes, you knew there was no hope.

Life is a Circus - AUgust Day 25
Title: Life is a Circus
Author: Purple_ducky00
Rating: M
Warnings: Violence, Animal attack, Blood and gore
Pair: Bucky/Clint/Tony
Square Filled: B3: Occupational Hazard @buckybarnesbingo
Link: Read on AO3
Summary: The Avengers as a found family of circus performers
++++++++++++++++
The SHIELD circus is the most well-known circus in the country. People flock far and wide to see the amazing Hawkeye, the best sharpshooter known to man. Iron Man’s pyrotechnics are more spectacular than ever. The Winter Soldier has the big cats trained to a single command. The acrobatics of the Black Widow are unmatched. Thor can create electricity with his hands. The Hulk is a small unassuming man who can lift record weights. The ringmaster, Captain America introduces each show with a loud booming voice. It is quite a show to see.
  Clint Barton joined the circus when he was quite young with his brother, Barney. They ran away from an abusive father. They both worked behind the scenes until the owner, Mr. Fury, saw Clint shooting a bow and arrow for fun. He noted that no matter how far or difficult the target, Clint never missed. Fury offered him a place in the show. Barney was supportive, up until he died from the newest sickness that passed through the circus train. His symptoms didn’t show up until too late, and he died quickly.
Tony is the son of a millionaire. His father has disowned him because he had refused to follow the family business of making weapons. Tony is a pacifist and will only blow things up for entertainment value.  He has bad dreams that keep him up most nights. Clint likes to be the one who holds him when the terrors get too bad.
  The next to arrive are two adopted bothers, Steve Rogers and James “Bucky” Barnes. Once hearing Rogers’ voice and enthusiasm, Mr. Fury makes him ringmaster immediately.
  Bucky always had a way with animals. Mr. Fury had acquired some new cubs, and Bucky raised and trained them, never once using a whip. He loves those cats, and they love him. It’s always a wonder to see them interact.
  Thor comes next, then Bruce Banner, who is Hulk. Everyone fits in well together, becoming a found family. Clint, Tony, and Bucky grow closer and begin to date each other. Life on the road is tough, and one needs to love those around them.
  “Next stop is St. Louis,” Bucky says, resting his head on Clint’s bicep. “I wonder if they’ll let us look around. I always wanted to see the Gateway Arch.”
  “It usually depends on how quickly we set up and the weather. Hopefully we can, though.” Tony looks up from his drawing. “I can’t wait until we get to Philadelphia. My best friend in high school lives there. We’ve talked a little recently, and I want to see him.”
  Sam Wilson, the human cannonball and Steve’s boyfriend, saunters into their train car. “We’ll be there in twenty minutes. Fury says if we get set up right away, we will have time to explore. First show doesn’t start til three. As long as Barnes’ kitties cooperate.”
“Shaddup Wilson.” Bucky flips him the bird. He and Sam have a love/hate relationship on the outside, but they truthfully enjoy each other’s company.
  Sam is right, though. Sasha and Angel have been sick the past couple of days, which makes them cranky. When the big cats are cranky, Bucky is the only one they allow near their sleeping areas. He hopes they will be ok without him for at least an hour.
  As Sam takes a seat at their table, Clint produces a deck of cards. Tony puts away his drawing, and the four play a game of Texas hold ’em until they arrive in St. Louis.
  Set up goes fairly well, and Bucky, Tony, and Clint make their way to the Gateway Arch. Clint buys them all turkey legs for lunch. Tony buys pins that they stick on their bags. They hope to collect at least on pin from each major city in the US.
  All too soon, their fun is over, and they have to prepare for their show. Clint chooses his targets and arrows, Tony finds the perfect area to set off his chemicals, and Bucky gets his girls ready for the show. Sasha is feeling better, and she shows it by pouncing on him playfully. Angel is more reserved, but he can tell she is happy to see him. Gloss runs in circles around him, and Petey practices her stalking routine. Sultan, the old tigress, lies on her bed watching them tiredly. She doesn’t do much, except emit a loud roar on cue. Bucky loves her.
  The show is about to start. Steve begins the show by welcoming everyone. He goes on his routine spiel about the wonders to be seen. Clint is part of the first act, and he kisses his men on the way out. Bucky and Tony never get tired of watching his show with Nat; the way they fly through the air, twisting and bounding. Clint shoots arrows at targets behind Natasha, and the crowd gasps as she lithely slips out of the way. Sure enough, Clint’s arrows always hit each target dead center.
  Bucky goes on near the end of Clint’s show. The crowd oohs and ahhs at the young cats’ tricks. When prompted, Sultan sits up straight and lets out her mighty roar. Bucky is happy. Everything is going well.
  Tony’s act is not until the end. He sends everyone off with a beautiful light show. Bucky is wowed by the show even though he has seen it every night for the past three years. Tony somehow outdoes himself each night.
  One week later, the circus is in Toledo. Unfortunately, so is HYDRA circus. They are known for poor working conditions and animal cruelty. Mr. Fury sets up a guard so that SHIELD circus does not get sabotaged.
  Someone still somehow sets off firecrackers near the cat car. Confused and agitated, they young cats don’t recognize Bucky when he comes to feed them the next morning. They attack, badly mangling his left arm. He is able to get them to recognize him before they do too much harm, but his arm is broken and barely attached to the shoulder. He will be unable to perform for a few months at least.
  The owners of the circus sent Bucky a letter, firing him and sending a large severance check. In the letter, they tell him they are sorry for the unfortunate circumstances, but his job does have the tendency for occupational hazards. After reading, Bucky throws the letter down in frustration. “I raised those cubs for him. I trained them all to be completely obedient. And now that I’m indisposed for a month or so, they’re going to fire me?”
  “They what!?!?!” Tony is incensed. He storms over to Fury’s tent, Clint following closely behind, with the letter and demands to know what’s going on.
  Fury shakes his head. “I didn’t vote for it. Barnes is the best in the field, but you can’t reason with dumbasses.”
  “You call the owners.” Tony smiles sweetly. “And you tell them that if they fire Bucky, I quit.”
“So do I.” Clint puts in. “And you know I bring in most of the crowd. I haven’t missed yet, and you know about the betting pools.” He crosses his arms. “Let us know what they think.”
  Bucky cries when Fury tells him that he is ok to stay on. His arm heals as best as it can within the span of a few months. Steve and Tony design tattoos for Bucky to get to hide the scars on his arm.
  When the circus finally gets to Philadelphia, Tony introduces his best friend, Rhodey, to them. Rhodey fits in quite well with the others for the few days they stay in Philly. They say goodbye to tour the rest of the country, but once this tour is over, everyone as a whole decides to retire from life on the move.
  They buy a large house in the Philadelphia suburbs and live as one happy family. Rhodey moves in once his apartment lease is up. Tony’s parents die a year later in a car accident, leaving their fortune to Tony. He buys a bigger house and becomes their sugar daddy. Everyone lives happily ever after.

Secret injuries would be interesting for some good Flora angst
((Thank you for the suggestion and I’m sorry this is late! I already used the ‘Secret Injuries’ prompt for Rook and Bishop whump... so I decided to add this to my new series about Flora— Put Yourself Back In The Narrative. It still contains Flora whump and angst... Flora secretly misses the professor and Luke, but Kat helps her realise that she’s not alone in that regard! This also contains some criticism of Layton’s decisions during the Relics investigation from Flora’s perspective. I hope that’s ok!
Spoilers for the anime and most of the series below! It starts with Flora writing a couple of letters...))
Em,
It's a relief to hear that the agency aren't involved... I still can't believe the professor never mentioned them! After everything you and Uncle have told me, I hope we never cross paths with those vultures. Don't worry— I memorised Grosky's phone number and I made sure Fen and Kitty did too.
Though, at the same time, it's disappointing that we've you've exhausted another lead.
Where will you be investigating next? Is there anyone else who might hold a grudge against the professor? All of the people I can think of are in prison... well, except for one, but he wrote to me insisting he isn't the perpetrator. I'd be more inclined to believe him if he spoke to me in person!
Maybe you could come home and help us track him down? Kitty said she misses her favourite aunt!
And we could make up some better codenames while you're here.
You stay safe too!
Flora
-
To Our Wise Guardian,
Thank you for searching for our reclusive father and looking after our restless uncle.
I trust Miss Altava with my life. If she believes the agency aren’t to blame, then I believe her. I don't care what she did in the past anymore then I care about Uncle's past. She wants to find the professor just as much as he does.
Please remind Uncle of that, and don't let him burn down any trees. Climate change is a real thing.
If you aren't having any joy with the Azran sites, maybe you should take a break. (It sounds like Uncle needs it!) There’s a park just across the road from us where you could land the Bos airship.
Fen would love to talk to Uncle about this device he's been working on. And Kitty has been begging for some new books...
Until next time,
The Layton Clan

Dear Brenda & Clark,
We're doing alright here, though we'd be lost without Rosa!
Alfendi has been given some extra time to complete his end-of-year project. At Kat's last parents’ evening, her teachers said she can be quiet in class but other than that, they're pleased with her progress.
Yes, Grandma Lucille is home now— we went to visit her and Grandpa Roland the other day. I just received Kuri is still with her family in Japan.
I feel awful for Marina's family... Please tell them that they're welcome here in England as well. I'm sure that wherever they are, Luke will protect Marina with his life.
...Arianna mentioned Tony's wedding. We'll all have to go dress shopping together. Kat's already decided she wants a yellow dress. (You might have some competition, Brenda!) Can Clark help Al choose a suit? He's a nightmare to shop for!
We can't wait to see you both. If you need help with the move, just give us a call.
Love,
Flora, Al & Kat xoxo
-
Dear Arianna,
Don't worry about the late reply! You should see my desk— there are SO many letters I haven't even opened yet! I wish I really wish Luke was here. He’s so much more organised than I am...
I miss him too—
-
The ink was smudged from Flora’s tears. She tried to hide it by scribbling out the last line, but there was no saving the letter now. Sniffing, she crumpled the paper into a tight ball and threw it at her bedroom wall. She didn’t bother aiming for the overflowing plastic bin.
What a waste. If Alfendi or Kat had done that, she would have tutted at them. They couldn’t afford to be wasteful, even with the emergency savings their father had left them…
Flora squeezed her black fountain pen (a twenty-first birthday gift from the professor), wishing she could snap it in half.
He had planned for this. He knew he’d be gone for so long and there was a chance he would never return.
Flora hadn’t come to say goodbye to he and Luke the day they set off, but Rosa had.
“What’s the point in searching for the girl’s father, after all these years? Why take the risk? Don’t you love Kat, Professor!?”
Yes, of course he did, but he wanted to solve the mystery behind her family. Solving a puzzle about a bunch of rocks was more important than raising his daughter, apparently. He had adopted Kat and now he was leaving her behind.
Flora huffed out a tearful laugh. She, more than anyone, should have seen it coming. But she had believed (assumed) it would be different with Kat.
The professor had taken Kat in when she was a tiny baby. A baby couldn’t be left home alone or sent to school. Parenting was a full-time job (as Flora was well aware these days).
Luke had laughed when the professor first announced that he would be Kat’s father.
Everyone, Flora included, had expected the majority of responsibility would fall on Rosa. Or, in Rosa’s absence, another eager friend or family member. (Grandma and Grandpa Layton, Uncle Desmond, the Monte d’Or gang…) The babysitting offers came flooding in much faster than when Alfendi was little. A newborn baby was far more appealing than a grief-stricken child.
Flora would have helped look after her siblings even more, had she not been so busy preparing for university.
But, in the professor’s defence, he had refused to take on any new cases and he had reduced his work hours. When he couldn’t escape his office at Gressenheller, he would bring Kat with him.
He had chosen the name ‘Katrielle’. It was an unusual name, but it went well with ‘Alfendi’.
You would think eight-year-old Alfendi would be jealous of all the attention his new sister was receiving. It was quite the opposite. By spending more time with Kat, the professor spent more time with Alfendi; trips to the park, the library, the museum…
Flora would join them whenever she got the chance. Kat was the glue that brought them all together.
The professor had ‘officially’ adopted Katrielle Layton when she turned three. It seemed he had given up on finding her biological father…
And then Luke (Darn him!) had to stick his nose back in to the Relic Stones business.
He had married Marina in secret just so they could move to England without the professor’s knowledge. Consequently, Flora had been kept in the dark too.
That hurt. After all these years, Luke still didn’t trust her.
She could have assisted him with the investigation. She wouldn’t have told the professor…
Luke had shut her out, along with Marina. (Poor Marina…)
Thankfully, Marina had sought out the professor as soon as Luke went missing.
The idiot had gotten himself caught by Don Paolo. (Yes, a similar fate had befallen Flora once… when she was fifteen. Luke was twenty-five, trained in karate and he should have known better!)
After Luke’s rescue, he was dragged back to the Layton household for a family reunion. Flora had given Luke an earful— “YOU DIDN’T INVITE US TO YOUR WEDDING AND THEN YOU ABANDONED YOUR NEW WIFE?!!”—before she hugged him. She had thought that would be the end of the whole Relics fiasco.
She’d thought wrong.
The professor had gotten involved after that. Family outings were pushed aside in favour of the Relics Stones.
At Alfendi’s eighteenth birthday meal, the professor and Luke were trading research notes under the table.
Flora found a house with her girlfriend, Kuri. The professor never once visited them, despite Flora’s many invitations.
The day Luke left for his journey with the professor, Marina had called Flora, crying because she and Luke had fallen out. Flora had gone to comfort her. (That was the last time Flora had any contact with Marina.)
Flora didn’t blame Luke as much as the professor. Luke was a young man fresh out of university— reckless, full of heart and loyal to a fault. He had watched Kat’s birth mother die and now he wanted to scour the world for answers. But, as Arianna had said, the world was so vast…
When Kat was born, Luke had been a student— too young to look after a baby by himself. So, the professor had accepted the role of being Kat’s parent.
The professor couldn’t just adopt a child (three children) and run off ten years later.
Kat wasn’t a puzzle that needed to be solved. She was a little girl.
A girl who never stopped eating sweets, but enjoyed going to the dentist if they would give her a sticker.
A girl who still hoped Santa and the Easter Bunny were real, even if the Tooth Fairy was fiction.
A girl who practiced her dad’s ‘detective’ poses in the mirror.
A girl who didn’t like tea, but still insisted on drinking it.
A girl who could hold a heated debate with her older brother (eight years her senior).
A girl whose family couldn’t afford a dog, so she stopped to pet every stray she met on the street.
A girl who thought people would only befriend her because of her last name. A girl who feared those friends would leave her when they learned of her father’s absence.
A girl who dreamed about her dad every night and woke up in tears.
A girl who was always trying to make her big sister smile…
“Hey, Floor…?” Kat knocked on Flora’s bedroom door, but she didn’t wait for Flora to answer. She burst in to see Flora wiping her eyes. Kat wondered, “What’s for dinner?”
“I, erm… I thought we could have lamb stew,” Flora suggested, standing up from her desk chair.
“Lamb stew? That’s Uncle Luke’s favourite!”
It was actually roast lamb… Flora could feel her eyes burning again. She turned away from Kat and tidied her desk. “I’ll be down in a minute,” she said distractedly.
“I can help you clean up!”
“Don’t worry, Kat—“
“Have you been writing more letters…?”
Flora glanced at Kat. Kat was picking up the ball of paper that had missed the bin— Arianna’s letter. Flora gasped, “Don’t...!”
Kat, ever curious, smoothed out the letter and read it to herself. She frowned when she reached the end.
Flora sighed. “No one was meant to read that…”
Kat carefully placed the letter on Flora’s desk. “I miss him,” Kat mumbled. “And Dad…”
“I know…” Flora touched Kat’s head. “I do, too.” Her words were mainly intended to reassure Kat, but Flora meant it.
She missed them— both of them— so much. No matter how much they had pushed her away, she missed them and she wanted them back.
“That’s okay,” Kat whispered, reaching up to grab Flora’s hand. She tugged Flora out of her bedroom and downstairs to where Alfendi was impatiently setting the table for dinner.
Later, Flora would rewrite her letter to Arianna, signing off with:
 …I miss him too. It’s okay if you ever want talk about it. I’ll be here.
Sincerely,
Flora

Owner Training - 4
Tumblr media
Word Count: 3,091
It was Saturday afternoon and you both were enjoying a lazy day at home. Yoongi had even gone so far as to let you scratch his head while the two of you binge-watched some shows that he’d always wanted to see but was never able to.  He’d never admit it, but you could hear the low contented rumbles in his chest that you were sure would become outright purring at any moment.
Moments like these were becoming more common and you couldn’t be happier. He was obviously coming to trust you a little more each day; the haunted wariness in his eyes often replaced with amusement (mostly at your expense) and dare you say it, peace. Perhaps soon he’d trust you enough to tell you about his past. You were so curious, but not enough to force him to bring up what you were sure was bad memories.
The quiet atmosphere was suddenly disturbed by someone knocking on the apartment door. The rhythm was playful and slightly annoying since it wouldn’t stop, and you knew it could only be two certain people. You’d completely forgotten that you hadn’t told them about Yoongi yet, nor had you thought to set up a meeting.
Yoongi’s ears flicked to face the door and you saw him try to subtly scent the air. You wondered if his nose was good enough to smell them through the door. He peeked at you and raised an eyebrow. You shrugged and stood up, shuffling towards the constant knocking.
“I’m coming. Stop knocking!”
Of course it didn’t stop. You swung the door open, the dog hybrid behind it smiling sheepishly with his fist raised to knock again.
“Tae Tae, you’re lucky you’re cute.”
Your brother Jimin giggled and ruffled his dog hybrid’s hair.
“Isn’t he?”
You sigh and swing the door wider to invite them in.
“What are you guys doing here?”
“We haven’t seen you in a while and missed you. Wanted to see if you would have dinner with us.” Jimin answered. He’d already spotted Yoongi sitting on the couch over your shoulder and his jaw dropped. Taehyung was scenting the air and still hadn’t noticed him.
“Why does it smell like a cat in here?”
As soon as he rounded the couch he spotted Yoongi. His ears were flat against his head and he looked poised for flight. Taehyung bounded up and got right in Yoongi’s face trying to sniff him. Yoongi actually hissed.
“Yoongi!”
“What?! The mutt’s in my bubble. Dude, you reek. Back off.”
“I don’t smell, do I?” Taehyung whined. “Jiminie and I just had a shower together this morning.”
“Remember when we discussed telling me too much information, Tae Tae? I don’t need to know about you and my brother in the shower,” you sigh and sit on the couch next to Yoongi, trying to block him from Taehyung a little bit.
You adored the lab hybrid, but he was perhaps a little too enthusiastic for someone like Yoongi.
“Guys, this is Yoongi. He lives with me now. Yoongi, this is my brother Jimin and his boyfriend Taehyung.”
“It’s nice to meet you, Yoongi,” greets him with an enthusiastic smile. He’d been trying to bully you into getting your own hybrid for years. “How long have you been here?”
Jimin’s voice is overly sweet, meaning you were in deep shit. He was no doubt going to whine and complain as soon as he got you alone, using every tool he had to make you feel guilty as hell for not telling him the moment Yoongi moved in. His favorite routine was to act like you not telling him something meant that you thought he was a horrible brother and he’d start crying actual tears until you begged for forgiveness.
“I dunno. A bit,” Yoongi answers warily, eyes flickering between the two guests.
“Oh...alright then. Welcome.” Jimin’s smile turns a bit sly as he looks at the two of you and the way that Yoongi was basically using you as a shield. You were a little worried about the thoughts that were going through your brother’s head. He was a snake. An adorable one, but still more devious than most people realized.
Yoongi acknowledges him with a grunt, his eyes narrowing when Taehyung plops down next to you on the couch and wraps his arms around you.
“It’s been forever since we’ve seen you. You’re gonna come eat with us, right? We’ll buy you lots of meat,” Taehyung pleads cutely, rubbing his cheek against yours.
You smile and scratch Tae’s ear. “I suppose we could, yeah. Yoongi you hungry?”
You turn to him and are startled to find him glaring at Taehyung, looking for all the world like he wants to take up the nearest item and bludgeon the poor pup.
“I guess. They’re paying, right? I’m going to eat a lot.”
Jimin laughs and pulls Taehyung off of you, wrapping his arms around the hybrid’s waist.
“You can eat as much as you want, Yoongi. Our treat to welcome you to the family.”
Yoongi scoffs and you know he’s going to make Jimin eat his words.
“We’ll meet you there, okay? I want to take my own car so we can stop by the store later,” You tell them and jump up to walk them to the front door.
Your brother hugs you quickly and waves to Yoongi as he pulls the still chattering Taehyung along with him to leave. As soon as the door closes, Yoongi grabs you and shoves you gently against the wall. You stare at him wide-eyed as he glares at you.
“You smell. You let the mutt scent you.”
“Did I? He just hugged me.”
“And rubbed his dog stink all over you. Hold still,” he rumbled, his face coming closer and closer to your own. His tail wraps itself around your waist, the end flicking every now and then like it does when he’s agitated.
When his cheek hit yours, you couldn’t help jumping a little bit in shock. You’ve cuddled a tiny bit in bed when he claims he’s freezing, or there was that one time when he was sick and pulled you into his blankets, but this was more deliberate. He was literally rubbing his cheek all over yours with his large hands gripping your hips, giving a rumble of approval a few moments later. He then moved lower towards your neck, giving it a little sniff before it received the same treatment as your cheek.
His hot breath ghosting over your skin made you tremble and you were desperately trying to will away any inappropriate thoughts. The poor thing was just doing what his instincts called for and here you were wishing he was throwing you against the wall for another reason. What a horrible owner you were.
“Let's go,” he mumbled, and your eyes shoot up to meet his amused smirk. You wonder if he knows what he does to you or if he just thinks you’re super ticklish.
“Collar, Yoongi. I know. Don’t look at me like that,” you sigh at the glowering hybrid. You were super proud of how normal your voice sounded.
“Fine, but you have to wear yours when we get home,” he grumbles, grabbing the collar from the entry table and wrapping it on.
You snort, knowing he’s made the same threat at least five times now and has never made you go through with it.
“Where are we going anyway? They just said meat,” Yoongi asked on the way to the car.
“We always go to the same place when Tae Tae wants meat. There’s a BBQ place that’s hybrid friendly downtown. Lots of options. I think you’ll like it.”
Yoongi is snapping his seatbelt into place when he growls, “Don’t call him that.”
“What?” you glance over at the irritated looking hybrid. “Tae Tae? That’s his nickname.”
He shrugs while looking out of the window. “Don’t care. Don’t like it.”
You’re mystified by his apparent dislike of all things Taehyung. Did the whole cat vs. dog thing translate over to hybrids as well?
You shake your head and focus on driving. The ride there is mostly silent. You have a feeling that if he disliked Tae this much he wouldn’t have come if there wasn’t food promised. You’ll have to get them together more often. Maybe if he gets to know him he’ll realize Taehyung is a sweet guy.
Once there, it’s easy enough to find Jimin and Taehyung, mostly because Jimin is hollering at the waitress for a bottle of Soju and Taehyung is standing up on his chair waving at you two. Yoongi is glancing around, taking in the number of owners there with their hybrids, all of them made obvious by their collars if not their ears.
“Welcome welcome!” Jimin greets happily. “I already put in several orders for meat, but if there’s something specific you’d want, Yoongi, feel free to ask for it.”
“What all did you get?”
“Mmm. A few different flavors of pork belly, sliced brisket, and some sausage to start. We always do meat, then rice, then cold soup. It comes with all the sides and Tae Tae charmed them into giving us some free gyoza, too.”
Yoongi hums and flips through the menu for a moment, and you can see him occasionally peeking up at Jimin like he’s trying to gauge how much he can get away with.
“Let’s add an order of shrimp, lamb skewers, and mackerel,” he says bravely, throwing his menu on top of the pile like he doesn’t have a care in the world. You smile proudly at him.
The waitress comes by with a plate of gyoza, cooing over the newest hybrid addition to the party. She boldly pets Yoongi’s hair and surprisingly he lets her with minimal fuss.
“You know, we also serve sushi and sashimi. I could bring you some nice and fresh sliced tuna if you’d like, kitty?”
Yoongi blushes at the name but nods. She smiles and pats Yoongi’s cheek, rushing off to get the food.
“They really like hybrids here,” Jimin laughs at Yoongi’s flustered expression. “She’s also known for taking in strays and sometimes holds fundraiser events for the local shelter where I got Taehyung from. That’s why we like coming here a lot.”
Taehyung smiles sweetly and nods, pouring Jimin a shot. He thanks him with a kiss before shooting in within seconds, his ability to drink alcohol like water always awe-inspiring. Yoongi watches them curiously.
“How long have you guys been together?”
“Oh, years. I adopted Taehyung as soon as I turned eighteen, right when Y/N and I moved away from home and got an apartment. She was furious at first because I kinda did it on accident and adopted him after seeing him playing in the shelter yard without telling her. Thankfully, he’s a sweetheart and grew on her.”
“Like a fungus,” you deadpanned, making Yoongi snort in amusement. Jimin quirked an eyebrow and shook his head before he continued.
“She says that now, but she cried when we moved into our own place. Anyway, at first I only got him because he was cute and I don’t like sleeping alone, but he’s so easy to love,” Jimin brought Taehyung’s hand to his lips, kissing it gently as the other blushed and gave a little whine.
Yoongi observed them avidly. “Huh. And it’s not hard? Ya know, cuz he’s a hybrid?”
Jimin nods in understanding. “Sometimes people say stuff, but at the end of the day, what do they matter? He’s perfectly capable of making his own choices. In fact, he started it.” Jimin snorts. “He’s happy and he makes me happy and as far as I’m concerned, that’s all that matters. Fuck everyone that says it’s not okay.”
Yoongi is curiously silent and soon distracted by the food being piled onto the table by the waitress. She sets his sliced tuna and rice in front of him with a wink and he mutters his thanks, shoveling it into his mouth greedily while the rest of the food cooks. Thankfully, she’d also brought another plate of gyoza and some marinated salmon in case the humans wanted a bit of a treat as well.
Soon, with food in his belly making him content and happy, you notice the tension slowly leaving Yoongi’s shoulders. He began to actively talk to Jimin and Taehyung, even going so far as to ask them questions and even let Jimin make him a pork belly wrap. It made you so happy to see Yoongi getting along with your family.
“Y/N?! I thought that was you!”
You gasp in happy surprise as one of your friends from high school is walking towards your table. He’s grown so tall and handsome, you couldn’t believe it.
“Minho?! Oh my God, wow. How are you?”
You jump up as he opens his arms wide, letting him hug you. You swear you hear a faint hiss behind you, but you’re too excited to pay attention.
“I’m good. Doing some acting and stuff,” he smiles brightly down at you, stilling holding you close.
“I saw that! I watched one of your dramas and I couldn’t believe that was my Minho. You’ve come a long way from our drama geek days,” you giggle as he blushes at the praise.
You turn in his grasp to address the table, still smiling excitedly.
“Guys, this is my friend Choi Minho. Minho, this is my brother Jimin, his boyfriend Taehyung, and this is Yoongi.”
“A pleasure to meet you all,” he nods, then glances at Yoongi with a friendly smile. “Your boyfriend?”
You blush and wave your hand, embarrassed. “Oh, goodness no. He’s just my hybrid.”
Yoongi gasps and you glance at him curiously. The look he’s giving you cuts to your soul, like you’d betrayed him. It takes you a second to realize what you’d said that was so insulting, and when you do, you cringe and unwrap yourself from Minho. You hold a hand out to Yoongi.
“Yoongi, I’m sorry...”
He’s trembling as he drops his chopsticks and stands up, nodding to Jimin and Taehyung.
“Thank you for dinner.”
He pulls his hoodie over his head and turns towards the door, flashing you one last look before he starts walking. You could have sworn his eyes seem a little wet.
“Um. I’m just gonna go. Minho, it was nice seeing you again. I’ll call you guys later,” you nod your apology and rush out of the door, hoping to catch Yoongi.
He’s nowhere in sight so you run to your car and drive it up the road slowly, keeping an eye out for the bright red hoodie. Finally, you spot him as he’s walking up the street, his hands jammed into his pockets and his head bowed. You pull up to the side of the road and roll down your window.
“Yoongi. Please, I’m so sorry. I said that without thinking. Please get in.”
He ignores you and keeps walking and you follow him in the car slowly.
“Please.”
He pauses and looks back when he hears the tremble in your voice as you try to hold back your tears. You feel like absolute shit.
He observes your face for a moment before he sighs and finally walks to the passenger side and gets in. You shut the engine off and turn to him.
“I’m so sorry. That was such an asshole way to explain it. I apologize.”
“Is that how you really think of me, though? Am I just a hybrid?” he asks softly, and your heart breaks over how desolate he sounds.
“Of course not. You’re my Yoongi. I just spoke thoughtlessly.”
He doesn’t look convinced but at least he’s looking at you now. You can see the wet track of a single tear on his cheek.
“But is that all you see when you look at me? A hybrid? A freak? You know that I’m as much a man as anyone else, right? Sure, I have certain behaviors and thoughts due to what some asshole scientists did however the fuck many years ago, but I’m not some dumb animal,” he growls, waving his hands in frustration.
You nod, frantic for him to forgive you.
“I know. I know you are amazing and so much smarter than me. I would never, ever, think you were lesser than me.”
You can see him softening a little and grasp his hand. Thankfully, he lets you.
“I’m not your pet,” he states forcefully, staring into your eyes. “I have thoughts and feelings and desires, the same as every other fucking person.”
“Absolutely. Please forgive me.”
He sighs and squeezes your hand before releasing it. “Yeah, okay. Two things first.”
“Anything.”
“Never make me watch you slobber all over some other guy again. He’s lucky I didn’t scratch his face.”
You blush and nod. Did that mean he was jealous?
“Also, you owe me ice cream now.”
You laugh as a small smile grows on his face, thankful for his obvious olive branch. Anxious to get things back to normal, you agree.
“I do. As many scoops as you want.”
He straps himself in as you start the car once more and pull onto the road. After a few moments of silence as the two of you let your emotions calm, he reaches over and laces his hand with yours. He stares at it as you peek at him from the corner of your eye. Suddenly, he brings it to his lips and presses a gentle kiss on it, not unlike he’d so intently observed Jimin do to Taehyung earlier.
You kept your eyes on the road for the most part, but your heart was racing as you tried to figure out what this meant. He’d been so adamant about your need to see him as a man instead of just another hybrid. You’d thought it was just because of his need for independence and the basic respect that many of his kind were denied, but what if it was more? What if he wanted you specifically to see him as a man? You knew already that you were attracted to him, but was that enough for you to brave actively being with him? To brave society’s disapproval and condemnation if they were to learn that you “lowered” yourself to be with someone that was considered barely human?
As you later watch Yoongi contentedly eating his five scoops of ice cream, you’re reminded of your brother’s words from earlier. You know he makes you happy, and if you can manage to make him happy too, what does the rest of the world matter?

noodle | jjk
pairing: jeon jungkook | reader
genre: boyfriend!au | pure, unadulterated fluff
warnings: none
premise: Sometimes it can get lonely when Jungkook has to leave, and that's definitely the only reason why you continuously pester him to get you a cat.
word count: 1.3k
Tumblr media
“Please?” You asked for roughly the fifth time, pulling at the loose fabric of Jungkook's hoodie. At some point another, you were determined to get an answer out of him, and no wasn’t in your vocabulary.
“I don’t know, y/n, we can hardly take care of ourselves. Last week, we had to call Yoongi because you couldn’t figure out how to use the breaker.” Jungkook looked at you skeptically, rolling his eyes when you only responded with a pouted lip.
“But a kitten isn’t a breaker, it’s a tiny little love machine full of love that will love you forever!”
Your boyfriend chuckled at your words. “Sometimes I question how old you are.” Jungkook grabbed the fist you had wrapped around his sweatshirt and slipped his fingers in between your own. He pulled your pouty self away from the window of the animal rescue, trying to keep you two moving down the street toward the cafe you had originally come to town for. You shuffled your feet along the pavement and pushed your head into your boyfriend’s arm bitterly. His shoulders shook as he laughed at your antics.
You delivered a pathetic slap to Jungkook’s chest. “Don’t laugh at me, Guk! I’m trying to sulk in peace.”
“No, you’re trying to guilt me into buying you a kitten.” You reached the cafe, Jungkook holding the door open for you. “A kitten is a lot of responsibility, and we’re both so busy right now, babe.”
“You’re not supposed to be the reasonable one in this relationship..,” the pout on your face somehow got stronger as you stood in line to order. Jungkook just smiled in response and kissed your forehead. You made a mental note to continue pouting no matter the circumstance.
Tumblr media
Days go by since you spotted those cats through the shelter window, your mission to guilt your boyfriend ended shortly after you two sat down at the cafe. Sure you had thought about it, but you and Jungkook both knew that you went through, what he called, phases. This wasn’t the first time you had asked him for a pet, far from it. The reasons for your begging ranged anywhere from those sad commercials on T.V., to the Dodo snapchat stories. Regardless of how the idea popped into your head, it always triggered the same response. A few hours of shameless begging, a sprinkle of guilt, and a buttload of affection toward your boyfriend.
You were busying yourself with loading the dishwasher while you waited for Jungkook to get home from work. You were halfway through the pile of plates sat before you when you heard your phone vibrate on the countertop, the dishes before you, quickly forgotten.
[8:57 pm] Coconut: hey sweets, i’m gonna be home about an hour later than i thought, i’ll see you in a bit!
You frowned slightly at his text. This happened pretty often, Jungkook having to stay late to finish a recording or work on choreography, so you wouldn’t say you were necessarily disappointed. That being said, you missed him more often than not lately. With the comeback approaching, those late nights were happening much more frequently. After typing out a quick reply, you set your phone back down and continued the task you abandoned.
After you finished with the dishes, you planted yourself onto the couch and turned on the T.V., mindlessly watching whatever was on Travel channel. Josh Gates was solving yet another thrilling mystery that you couldn’t be bothered to watch progressively. Instead, you hopped in between each of your social media sites, looking at the same posts over and over again, hoping to find something new or even remotely interesting. Just then, the telltale sounds of your future anguish reach your ears and you scramble to bury your head under the blankets. Sarah McLachlan’s voice signaled the sight of the sad, neglected animals on your screen. You screeched and buried your head under the blanket and covered your ears. Guilt was an awfully powerful tool.
Thirty seconds passed, and the commercial was finally over. You felt the familiar pout creep over your features, and you knew that Jungkook would get an earful of it when he got home. Maybe you were being bratty, but when you look around your empty apartment, you couldn’t help but feel lonely. Most of the time, you were at school, studying, or doing homework, but when you finish all of those things, you’re often left to your own isolation. You loved Jungkook, and you understood and accepted his job, but sometimes you really hated how much you were apart. So, yeah, maybe you were being repetitive and a little bit annoying with your request, but there’s only so much cleaning you could do around the apartment to satiate your boredom.
While you were deep in your thoughts, you heard the front door open, signaling the arrival of your boyfriend. You hopped up from your blanket cocoon and sprinted over to the front door, tears springing to your eyes when you saw what was in front of you. Jungkook was cradling a small, orange ball of fluff against his chest. A large smile graced his lips when he noticed the blubbering mess that you had turned into. You stumbled over the shoes in the entryway en route to Jungkook and the tiny kitten he was holding.
“I-... kitty,” you whined out as you continued to bawl over the tiny creature. “You,” sniffle, “got a,” sniffle, “kitty!”
“Yes, sweetheart, I got a kitty,” Jungkook reached his arm up and scratched the back of his neck. You loved when he got shy like this. You looked away from the kitten on his chest for a second and kissed his blushing cheek. “I just, know you get lonely when ‘m not here and I just-,”
“Thank you, baby,” you grasped his cheek and pulled him toward your lips. He reciprocated immediately and sighed in relief, trying to deepen the kiss. Just then, the kitten let out a strangled meow from below you and Jungkook. You giggle and break away from your boyfriend and look at the tiny creature. While you make yourself busy petting the kitten’s head, Jungkook clears his throat.
“The shelter called her Noodle, she’s 3 months old, and she has 3 legs.” Your eyes meet Jungkook’s at his last piece of information. You quickly scoop the kitten out of your boyfriends, and sure enough, one of Noodle’s back legs were absent. Cradling the baby to your chest, you felt the tears spring to your eyes once again.
“She’s the sweetest sweetheart who ever existed, I love her!” Jungkook pulled you into his arms and kissed the top of your head, giggling while you ugly-cried in your boyfriend’s arms.
Tumblr media
You managed to pull yourself together after about ten minutes of blubbering. In between your sobs, you managed to catch scattered bits of information about the kitten. Jungkook had gone to the shelter a week prior and signed the paperwork to adopt the tabby. Noodle had been in and out of shelters and foster homes for the first three months of her life. Apparently, she had been orphaned, got an infection in her leg from the poor conditions she had been found in and soon after, had her leg amputated. You couldn’t wrap your head around the fact that nobody wanted her.
It also just dawned on you that Jungkook walked into the house with a cat and a cat only. You had no supplies for her whatsoever. This realization broke you out of your reverie and your wide eyes met Jungkook’s.
“Um, babe, you didn’t happen to buy a litter box, food, bowls, blankets, or a crate for her, did you?” His eyes widened as large as yours had at your question.
“Uh…”
“Jungkook! It’s not like we have that stuff just sitting around the house!”
“This is why I can’t have too much responsibility!” Jungkook threw his hands up in defeat, his bottom lip pouting out as we whined at you.
You grabbed his hands as you stood, sticking the cat into your zip-up and making your way to the door. “C’mon, we gotta make a trip to the store, our child needs some stuff.”
“Our child?” Jungkook looks at you incredulously.
“Yes, Noodle is our baby. Don’t look at me like that! You should have been expecting this.”

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day One Hundred Fifty-Five: Twelve Babies ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Inuzuka Hana ] [ SasuHina, pregnancy ] [ Verse: Best Years of Your Life ] [ AO3 Link ]
It starts when she’s coming in with an armful of groceries. Juggling the bag and her keys, Hinata pauses as she hears a soft sound. A few glances around the front porch, however, reveal nothing...and she doesn’t hear it again. Listening a moment longer, she then mentally shrugs and heads in. There’s still several more bags to pack in, after all. And for the moment, she’s all alone with Sasuke at work. Which leaves all the grocery-carrying to her.
Once everything is put away, she changes into a pair of worn shorts and a tank top, hair pulled into a tail behind her head and a visor snug over her brow to shade her face. Gloves pulled onto her hands, she heads back out through the front door to do a bit of yard work. The flowerbeds in the front are getting a bit overrun with weeds. It’s time yet again to go to war with the unwanted flora!
Ten minutes in, she stills. There’s that noise again! Sitting back on her haunches, Hinata looks over the yard. Funny...she doesn’t see anything. The houses on either side are quiet. What on earth…?
There! Again! Head turning, she pinpoints it somewhere to her left. Is there...something under the front porch? Hesitating - what if it’s a racoon? They carry rabies! - she sidles over to the lattice that goes all the way around the underside of the porch.
Or...well, most of it. As it so happens, there’s a piece broken off along the house. Great...there is something under there, isn’t there?
Nibbling her lip, she heads in for a moment to grab a flashlight, reemerging and kneeling by the hole. A button is pressed, and the light cuts through the dark under the porch.
A few random bits of junk - must be from the previous owners - are scattered about. Old broken flower pots, some spare lattice...and a cardboard box…? Heaving a small, curt sigh, Hinata moves around to a better angle to see into said box. Peering through a hole of the lattice, she aims her light...and gasps softly.
Staring with round eyes, giving a quiet growl...is a cat.
“Aww...hey, kitty,” Hinata greets softly. “What are you doing under there…?”
Still the feline growls, Hinata angling the beam to keep from blinding them.
“It’s okay! I’m not gonna hurt you. Gosh, I thought you were a trash panda…” Shifting her weight, she tries to think of what to do. “...hold on!”
Back in she goes, fetching a can of tuna fish. Cracking it open, she forks some into a tupperware bowl...and then gets a second for some water. Placing both near the hole by the house, she calls, “Here kitty kitty! Are you hungry?”
It takes a minute, but the smell of tuna coaxes them to peer around the edge of the box, sniffing with soft snorts. Creeping along as Hinata settles herself back a ways, the cat - a little black one with a splotch of white on their chest - slowly emerges just enough to scarf down several chunks of tuna.
And it’s then Hinata notices, this is a fat cat! But...fat in a sort of...odd way. Almost like…
...oh no.
“...you’re pregnant, aren’t you?” she notes quietly. What is she supposed to do with a wild, pregnant cat?
Sasuke is going to be thrilled.
Not.
Watching her eat (and then get a long drink), Hinata nibbles her thumbnail, sat on the grass. Should she...call the pound? But surely that would be a lot of stress for a kitty that’s so clearly close to popping…
...oh! Duh!
Taking her phone out of her pocket, Hinata sends a quick text. Thankfully it only takes Kiba a few minutes to reply.
Yeah, I can see if my sis has some spare time - she helps with rescues a lot. And she can make sure the cat’s healthy. I’ll text you when I hear back.
Hinata breathes a sigh of relief. Thank you - I just want to make sure mama and babies will be okay!
Having little else to do but wait, Hinata wraps arms around her bent knees, watching her new feline friend eat her meal. “I wish you weren’t scared of me, kitty...I promise I don’t want to hurt you…!” But alas, cats can’t understand something so easily - she’ll have to earn her trust, first. Hopefully Hana will know some tips and tricks for that.
All the while, her guest keeps one wary eye on the human. It doesn’t take long to clean up every scrap of tuna.
“Gosh, you must be really hungry…! Do you...want some more?” She also just got some chicken...maybe that would be better on an empty stomach. Ever so slowly, Hinata moves to get to her feet.
In a flash, the cat disappears back under the porch.
“Oh -!” Trying to gesture, Hinata wilts. Well...she should have expected that. Setting her jaw, she picks up the dish and heads back inside.
One cut up piece of chicken later, she returns, setting it back in the same spot...and this time, sitting a little closer. As before, the kitty approaches slowly, watching Hinata with a heaping amount of suspicion.
“You’re okay,” she murmurs, trying to calm her. “I’m not gonna hurt you...it’s just m-me and you. You’re safe, pretty little kitty.”
On she goes, mostly just talking nonsense to try to adjust the cat to her voice. Reaching the dish, the soon-to-be mother heads right on in to eating.
As tempted as she is to try and pet her, Hinata refrains. Mostly because she knows that won’t work, but also because she can’t know what trouble this kitty’s gotten into: parasites, illnesses...she might not be safe to touch.
And then Sasuke’s car pulls into the driveway. Tensing, the cat - surprisingly - doesn’t flee, eyes round again and clearly scared.
“Easy! Easy…” Hinata urges. “It’s just Sasuke. He’s my husband. He loves kitties!”
“Hinata? Who are you talking to?”
She just points, Sasuke coming around and then stopping in surprise. “...oh! Is that cat...pregnant?”
“I think so. Poor thing is so hungry...I’ve been trying to make friends!”
Just as curious, Sasuke takes a seat beside her.
Torn between her appetite and her fear, the cat lingers in inaction for a while before taking another bite.
Feeling her phone vibrate, Hinata gets a text from Hana. Can be there in twenty minutes - be careful not to approach, get scratched / bit
True to her word, the vet soon arrives, a carrier and a catch pole in hand. “So, she’s under the porch?”
“Mhm...we had her out to eat, but she got nervous at your car.”
The couple stand aside as the vet gets to work, laying on her belly and fishing around for the feline. Soon there’s a startled howl as she gets ahold of her, and Hinata can’t help a flinch. Fishing her out, Hana carefully gets her into the crate.
Immediately, the cat shrinks into a corner, hair on end and pupils like dinner plates.
“...well, I’ll have to do a lot of tests, make sure she doesn’t have any mites, fleas, diseases...but if she checks out, I’ll let you know.”
“Will...will she need a foster home?”
Hana perks a brow. “...are you offering?”
Hinata looks to Sasuke, who deadpans. “...Hinata…”
“We can help find the babies homes! Haven’t you always w-wanted a cat since we moved in?”
“Yeah, one. Not a whole...troupe.”
“Kittens are pretty easy to get adopted,” Hana offers. “Everyone loves baby animals.”
“Pleaaase?”
The Uchiha sighs. “...oh, all right. But we have to make sure she’s safe and healthy first.”
“Mhm!”
A week passes as Hana does tests and cleans the cat up, doing her best to socialize her. “I think she was someone’s housecat,” she reports over the phone. “She doesn’t have a chip, but she’s actually gotten a little friendly. Still very scared, though.”
“Aww…”
“You sure you want her in your house? She didn’t have fleas, and seems clean besides some ear mites I treated her for...but who knows if she’s housebroken, or won’t go nuts and jump on everything.”
“I’m sure!”
Thankfully, the couple have a spare room in their little house: what was going to be an office, but has mostly just been storage as the project keeps getting pushed back. Hinata does her best to clean it up, investing in a large dog crate filled with second hand store blankets, water and food, and a small litter box.
Hana brings the kitty back a few days later, helping move the very round cat from one crate to another. Curling up in a corner, she stares with wary eyes.
“Hey there,” Hinata greets with a smile.
“Got a name picked out yet?”
“Hm...no, not yet.”
“She seems nice, just...very shy of people. She hasn’t bitten or scratched - very well-behaved. I’m willing to bet she’s a housecat that got pregnant, and the owner just...tossed her out rather than deal with the kittens.”
“Oh, how horrible…”
“But, she’s got a good home now. Once the kittens are born and old enough, I’ll help you find homes. Shouldn’t take much.”
“Thank you!”
Kittens, as it turns out, aren’t far off.
As a matter of fact, they only wait about a day before arriving.
Going in to check her the following morning, Hinata freezes at the sounds of soft, tiny mews. “...oh my g-gosh!”
Very carefully checking the cat’s nest of blankets, Hinata counts a whopping twelve babies. Twelve little kittens!
“Holy smokes, mama! No wonder you were so hungry, having all those little ones in there!”
Sasuke doesn’t believe her until he gets home to check himself. “...well I’ll be darned.”
Most of the kittens are shades of black or grey, but a few are tabby colored. “Well, I guess we know what the dad looked like…”
“Freeloader, not even sticking around to raise the kids.”
Hinata giggles. “I guess that falls to us, huh?”
Hana comes to check them, also amazed. “You don’t see litters this size very often! But they all look healthy...what a good mama.”
Hinata starts her new home hunt early. Everyone she knows gets a call advertising the little kitties.
Kiba’s girlfriend agrees to take one. Naruto and Sakura too, if they can get a pet deposit in their apartment. Shino politely declines, citing an allergy. Kurenai, Hinata’s favorite high school teacher, agrees to one. Ino goes in for two. Sasuke’s brother lets his wife talk him into one. Shisui agrees to one, as does his mother. Even Hanabi manages to convince Hiashi to let her have one. That leaves three unaccounted for, which Hana assures them won’t take long.
Sasuke, however...quickly becomes attached. He’s told her before of his family’s love for cats, as evident by their percentage of participation. But more than once, Hinata catches him in the spare room, letting himself be overrun by kittens.
As time goes, the mama cat quickly warms up to them both.
“How about Oreo?”
“You have any idea how overused that name is for black and white animals?”
“Cuz it fits!”
“...how about...Shadow?”
“...what was that about overused?”
Staring at her, Sasuke then brightens. “...Bowtie.”
“What?”
“Her white mark on her chest! It looks like a bowtie!”
Hinata stares...and then laughs. “It does!”
Once the kittens are old enough, they get one last checkup by Hana, and then get dispersed to their new homes.
And Bowtie gets spayed.
“I think one batch of twelve babies was enough for the poor thing,” Hinata agrees.
“Yeah...one cat is plenty. For now.”
“...for now.”
                                                         .oOo.
     Me: I should keep my dailies short so I don't burn out for the Tumblr event!      Me: *writes this, which is almost 2k words*      ...welp xD      Typically I try to average about 1200 words for these drabbles...I think last I checked the overall average was actually 1400-ish? So even then I've managed to go a bit overboard, lol - I just...really liked this prompt and had to flesh it out a bit more than usual xD      Anywho, Hinata found a kitty! Which then led to MANY MORE kitties! Which I promise all ended up with good homes. And that's...really all there is to this, lol      Remember folks: spay and neuter your pets!      Anyway, on that note, I'm gonna go pass out! Still got a LOT of writing ahead of me for the next three days, so I need some sleep - thanks for reading!

Kittens 🐱
(707 & MC)
Quick note: This may (probably will) have another part to it. It is EXTREMELY full of fluff, top to bottom. The idea of this was inspired by a chatroom I had recently with 707. Enjoy!
*Spoiler: just 707's real name; most people probably know it already though but I'm putting this here just in case. Oh, and his twin brother.*
~~~~~~~~
I stood staring into a window that viewed a room full of cats, both young, old, and even some in between. Next to me was Yoosung, whom I'd dragged with me to multiple pet stores and shelters in search for the perfect cat. This was now the seventh one we've gone to, and Yoosung was beginning to whine.
"MC, pleaseeee~! Let's leave! I'm bored, and LOLOL is having an event soon!" he complained.
I sighed. "Yoosung, we're not leaving until we find the right cat."
"Why are we even looking for cats in the first place?" Yoosung continued to whine.
I slapped my palm to my forehead. "Have you seriously forgotten? Today's my one-year-anniversay with Saeyoung, so I want to surprise him before our dinner date. A cat is the perfect gift — but I can't just give him any cat." I paused, then added, "Plus, with how much he pesters Jumin about his cat, I'd rather not see my boyfriend sent away in handcuffs..."
Yoosung scoffed. "You're going to trust him with a cat?"
I sent him a sharp glare, which immediately made him become so panicked, he looked like he wanted to disappear. "Yes. Besides, I moved in a month ago, so if I think he's somehow mistreating the cat, I'll scold him."
The blonde gulped. "O-okay. Perfect cat. But why did you bring me with you?"
"Because out of everyone in the RFA, not including myself, you know him best, so I'm hoping that with our judgement combined, we'll be able to pick out a cat best suited for him," I explained, simple and blunt, "so please take this more seriously."
Yoosung sighed. "Okay..."
We continued observing the cats; this time, Yoosung was more focused — probably because he realised the sooner he helped me, the sooner we would leave so he could get to his game, honestly. In total, there were about fifteen cats to choose from. The older ones were easy to spot since all of them were either resting or moving slowly; I didn't really pay them much attention since I didn't want to give Saeyoung a companion that would likely die within a year, more or less. So I focused more on the younger ones — the kittens that were running around and playing, which was a majority of the cats since it was kitty season. It was hard to pinpoint which one would be absolutely perfect for him without actually entering, I realised with a sigh.
Just as I was about to move towards the door, one tiny, adorable kitten approached the window I stood in front of and meowed at me, placing its paws on the glass. I blinked. The kitten was pretty small; if I had to guess its age, I'd say somewhere around one to two months old. The kitten's coat pattern was stunningly beautiful — short-haired, the main colour being white, with a decent amount of a pale orange on its head and back, and occasional dark grey/black stripes here and there, mainly on its back and stomach, but there were a few flecks on its head and face, too. The amount of colours (three) allowed me to peg the kitten as both a calico and a female, since only a very low percentage of calicos were male. Probably her most gorgeous feature was not her size nor her coat — but her eyes: big, round blue orbs that reminded me of beautiful crystals and were absolutely full of curiosity.
The kitten's beauty was remarkably enchanting.
Yoosung noticed the kitten and started to say, "What about–"
I cut him off quickly with, "I noticed," as I entered the cat room, the blonde close behind me. The moment I was inside, the kitten meowed at me and hopped off the cat tower she had been on to look at me through the window. She ran over to me and rubbed herself against my ankles, letting out a few more meows. I crouched down to pet her, and she pressed her head against my hand, purring loudly. A second later she suddenly ran away from me a few inches, towards a small toy — a ball with a tiny bell inside. She stared at the toy, then looked at me expectantly. Taking the hint that she wanted me to play with her, I grabbed the ball and rolled it slowly, and the kitten excitedly tossed it around for a bit. Once she was done with it, she came back to me for more petting.
I immediately glanced up at Yoosung, who I could tell was thinking the same thing I was: This is the one. Without needing a verbal request from me, he turned to get an employee. The employee told us to grab the kitten, so I did and put her into the cat carrier Yoosung held. Yoosung played with the kitten by putting his fingers through the bars while I signed the necessary papers to officially adopt the kitten. Finally, I paid the amount of money required, and off Yoosung and I were.
As we got into my car, Yoosung begged, "You have to let me come over to play with her!"
I chuckled, starting the car's engine. "Of course; if Saeyoung allows it."
"Oh! What are you going to name her?"
"Not sure. Since she's my gift to Saeyoung, I'm letting him name her. Now would you please cover the carrier with that towel already? You'll ruin the surprise!"
~~~~
I had Yoosung wait outside the door with the kitten while I entered, closing the door behind me so he couldn't be seen as I called, "Saeyoung! I'm home!"
The sound of my boyfriend stumbling over furniture in the dark (his house was often dark since he was practically a bat with a hatred for light) made me chuckle as I turned the living room light on. When Saeyoung finally appeared in my line of sight, he blinked multiple times at the sudden brightness, causing me to roll my eyes with a smile. He looked half a mess and half neat (but entirely hot), since his hair was more tamed in preparation for our dinner date later tonight; but his black tank top and blue jeans were heavily wrinkled, and he was barefoot.
Once his golden eyes adjusted to the light, they zeroed in on me and he grinned widely. "Hey MC! I uh, didn't expect you to be back so soon..."
I waved my hand dismissively. "Helping Yoosung with homework took less time than I expected," I said, sticking to the excuse I'd made up to get out and buy him a cat; since he originally wasn't in agreement of me leaving because of today being our anniversary. Before he could ask me how it went, I quickly added, "I have a surprise for you."
Saeyoung lifted an eyebrow, suspicious. "Surprise?"
"Yep. You're gonna love it~," I cooed, my hand reaching for the door knob behind me subtly.
"If it isn't more Honey Budda Chips, I doubt I will," he replied with a snicker.
I shook my head. "It's better."
"What could possibly be better than HBC?" he asked sarcastically. Then, after I'd opened the door and let Yoosung in, he started to say, "Yoosung? What are you–" his voice immediately died when his eyes landed on what Yoosung was holding. He pointed at it and demanded, "What's under that red towel?"
"Guess!" I excited urged.
Saeyoung frowned as he stared at it, likely taking into consideration its size as he rattled off, "A box of HBC? A game console? A–" he stopped the moment he heard it, his eyes instantly widening.
Meow!
"OH MY GOD YOU GOT ME A CAT?!" Saeyoung ripped the towel off and stared at the adorable calico with awe in his eyes.
I giggled at his reaction. "Surprise! She's almost two months old, and I decided to leave her name up to you — just don't name her after Jumin's cat," I warned.
He unlocked the cat carrier's door and gently picked up the kitten, holding her in front of his face. The kitten didn't seem to mind; in fact, she meowed happily and placed a paw on his mouth.
Saeyoung looked like he was about to cry.
I glanced at Yoosung for a moment, who shrugged, then focused on my boyfriend again. "S-Saeyoung? Is everything okay? Do you not like her? I had Yoosung help me pick her out, but if you don't like her, we can take her back and you can choose a different one..."
I slowly stopped talking after Saeyoung shushed me and hugged the kitten. "Don't take her back; she's perfect. I'm so happy."
I let out a sigh of relief, and smiled. "I'm really glad you like her."
He took the cat carrier from Yoosung and set it down, then handed the kitten to him (who was delighted to hold the adorable animal) so he could hug me. "Thank you. I love you so much."
"I love you too, Saeyoung. What are you going to name her?"
"I'm not sure right now," he admitted, pulling away to look at her. She meowed, purring as Yoosung pet her. Saeyoung cleared his throat loudly, causing the blonde to rip his gaze off of the kitten; and the two shared a knowing look. I was about to question what that meant, when Saeyoung started, "I wasn't expecting you to get me a cat, and I am happy, but... I could be happier."
I tilted my head in confusion. "What do you mean?"
Saeyoung's face was as red as his hair as he awkwardly scratched his cheek. "Well... to be honest, you're not the only one Yoosung helped pick out a gift for today."
I raised an eyebrow, looking between the two men. "Oh? What did he help you pick out for me?"
Yoosung chuckled nervously. "W-well–"
"Shut up, don't you dare ruin my moment," Saeyoung hissed, effectively silencing him not only with his tone of voice but a sharp glare as well — causing the poor boy to stiffen and slouch in an attempt to make himself look smaller.
Saeyoung turned back to me with an adoring warm smile — a complete turn around from the harsh scowl he'd directed at Yoosung. He took both of my hands into his, and began, "MC. We've been together for a whole year now and came a long way to get to where we are at this moment. You're the reason I got my brother back, and the reason why I finally don't feel like I have to hide who I really am. You constantly put a smile on my face even when you're not around, and I'm so in love with you that it consumes me. I couldn't possibly be happier with anyone else."
*cue an oblivious MC*
I beamed. "Aww, Saeyoung, me too. But I don't understand what this has to do with your anniversary gift to me."
Saeyoung chuckled. "I was planning on doing this after dinner, but you surprised me with the kitten and it made me so happy, I've decided to just do it now. I know it's only been one year, but..." He let go of my hands, reaching into his back pocket and lowering himself onto one knee as he revealed a small red velvet box. Before he even opened it, showing off a beautiful yet simple diamond ring, I understood immediately and covered my open mouth as happy tears quickly formed in my eyes.
"Will you marry me?"
"Oh my god, Saeyoung, don't even bother asking twice; YES!"
My now fiance stood up with a huge grin, taking the appropriate hand and slipping the gorgeous piece of jewelry onto my ring finger. Then he held my face gently and kissed me; short yet full of love. I giggled after he pulled away. "Now I suddenly understand why you had asked for my ring size some weeks ago."
Saeyoung laughed. "Why else would I ask?"
"I don't know; a promise ring?" I shrugged.
He shook his head. "I love you, you oblivious human being."
"I love you too, Saeyoung."
~~~~
Bonus:
Saeran suddenly peeked his head around the corner. "Why was she yelling yes?" He noticed Yoosung and the kitten he held. "And why is there a cat here?"
"Anniversary gift, and–" I showed off the engagement ring that sparkled on my finger.
Saeran stared at it, nodded, then called to Saeyoung as he left, "About time, coward~."
"S-Saeran!!"
name: from across the ocean rating: general relationship: gajeel redfox/levy mcgarden (platonic and romantic) tags: Alternate Universe - Modern Setting | Texting | Pen Pals | Long-Distance Relationship | its a chat fic | but with lots of emotion in it | Tooth-Rotting Fluff | Gajeel Redfox is an actual meme summary:
for her 15th birthday, levy receives membership to an international pen pal program.
[pen pals/long-distance relationship. 2nd-anniversary gift for my beloved bailey, @blackbloodrose20 ]
also read on ao3 and ffnet!
(although it doesn’t match any of the prompts, this is considered an entry for gajevy week 2019. rejoice with love!)
Membership in an international pen-pal program was not what Levy expected for her 15th birthday, but at this point, she was so lonely she was ready to accept everything.
She struggled to sit down with her broken leg, awkwardly stretching it on the small stool under her computer desk before pulling the box with the documents over. She could still hear the soft murmurs coming from downstairs and considered getting up to close the door.
Then she knocked her toes against the wall.
“Nope, not today. I’ve done enough walking.”
It was hard, to maneuver her fingers into the tight space between her computer and the wall, but after the third attempt, Levy managed to find the start button and turn the machine on. The whirling noise only worried her for a moment. Grandmere had suggested they could get a new computer soon anyway.
If she was even going to need that new computer.
The program had a forum and everything established. Levy looked up the rules and the suggestions of the server then searched up some more things about proper forum etiquette just in case. The registration only took a minute at the most. Finding a proper picture of her took longer and at last, she picked the one she found best from that visit to Paris from Christmas. (Her face looked horribly red from the cold, but it would have to do.)
The forum soon matched her up with her partner. Levy watched the animation process with curiosity. Her picture appeared from a small red dot that was supposed to be her hometown. The same red dot appeared somewhere in North America and a small picture jumped from it. A thin red line connected the two pictures.
A new tab opened, startling her.
Her fingers hovered over the keyboard and she narrowed her eyes, urging herself to switch to English. The tab was almost empty, only containing a big box for messages and few small menus to the side with options for adding pictures, emoticons and other things she didn’t really care about.
A green dot by the side meant her partner was online, too.
Levy bit her lip. She could always quit. She could always put everything away and hand the documents down some other kid in town, then wait for her leg to heal up and do her best to be social.
Or she could try to be brave for once in her life.
FlowerLevy: Hello?
The three dots on the screen almost drove her insane. Levy nibbled on her nails.
the_dragon_warrior: hi? i’m gajeel. what’s your name?
FlowerLevy: My name is Levy. It’s nice to meet you!
flowercrown: I want to die.
panthers: who do i have to kill
flowercrown: You can’t just go around killing people, Gajeel.
panthers: i mean
panthers: i can try?
flowercrown: It’s illegal!
panthers: i’m already a criminal you foolish child
flowercrown: Buying a beer that one time doesn’t count.
panthers: but it’s also illegal
flowercrown: You can’t offer murder every time I complain about something.
panthers: i so much can
panthers: fucking watch me tiny one
flowercrown: Stop calling me short.
panthers: but you are short
flowercrown: One day, Gajeel Redfox, your growth spurt will stop.
flowercrown: And then, I’m going to have the upper hand.
flowercrown: Just you wait.
panthers: i’m so scarred. terrified.
flowercrown: I hate you with a burning passion.
panthers: but you love me
Levy blinked for a moment, staring at the screen of her laptop with a mixture of confusion and something she didn’t recognize.
flowercrown: You don’t deserve my love.
panthers: <3
When Levy touched her cheeks, she felt heat radiate from under her fingers. Something strange had settled in her stomach, making her feel as if she was going to throw up any second.
flowercrown: <3
panthers: ha! i got you to send me a heart!
flowercrown: You’re so strange, Gajeel.
panthers: i know tiny
panthers: i know
He was horrible.
actual-disney-princess: um
actual-disney-princess: i might have done something
sunflower: Please tell me you didn’t kill anyone.
actual-disney princess: i did not kill anyone
actual-disney-princess: why do you always assume that?
actual-disney-princess: meet lily
actual-disney-princess: i met him today and he stole my heart
actual-disney-princess: he’s my child now
sunflower: Oh dear god, he’s so beautiful!
sunflower: You’re going to be a good dad, Gajeel.
actual-disney-princess: dad?
sunflower: You adopted a little animal. I think that makes you a dad?
actual-disney-princess: oh
actual-disney-princess: i didn’t consider that
actual-disney-princess: that’s cool
actual-disney-princess: does that make you his mom?
sunflower: Why am I the mom?
actual-disney-princess: you’re my best friend dumbass
sunflower: Calling me your cat’s mother implies I’m your wife.
actual-disney-princess: oh
actual-disney-princess: do you wanna marry me?
Levy slammed her head against the library table, startling the small group of first-years on the next table over. Her face was burning as she awkwardly apologized to them and turned her laptop to the side. He was so dumb, it was a wonder she loved him as much as she did.
sunflower: You can’t ask me to marry you just because you want me to be your cat’s mother.
actual-disney-princess: umm rude
actual-disney-princess: are you going to leave poor lily motherless?
actual-disney-princess shared a picture
actual-disney-princess: LOOK AT HIS SAD KITTY EYES
actual-disney-princess: HOW CAN SAY NO TO HIS KITTY EYES
actual-disney-princess: HEARTLESS
sunflower: OKAY I’M GOING TO MARRY YOU
sunflower: Please stop, you’re making me feel like a bad person.
actual-disney-princess: didn’t want to
actual-disney-princess: but at least it worked?
sunflower: You confuse me so much sometimes.
actual-disney-princess: sometimes it’s my intention
actual-disney-princess: now wife
sunflower: ugh
actual-disney-princess: i see how much enthusiasm you have, lev
actual-disney-princess: you wound me
Levy stared at her phone’s screen for a long time, her heart beating like a hummingbird in her chest. She had trouble catching her breath, find it difficult to put her mind in a single, coherent thought.
Be brave, she urged herself. You can’t hold it anymore. It’s enough.
Her classmates had been talking about love and romance. Levy didn’t care about romance. Her grandparents were strict in their care and her school was even stricter. But they were young girls, young girls with dreams of love. And they talked and gossiped and shared.
And she closed her eyes and thought for someone who waited for her across the ocean and it made her heart hurt.
Levy’d been in love with her best friends for a couple of months—maybe more, who knew?—now. And with every day that passed without telling him, it hurt her more. It had needed for her to face her old crush and listen to the girls in her class talk about their relationships for her to realize her feelings, but once she did, keeping them in her heart made her break apart.
Telling Gajeel would, at worst, probably ruin their friendship and make him hate her. But not telling him meant risking souring the warmth she held in her chest for him and truth be true, she preferred losing him and keeping the memories of the joy she had over watching their friendship turn into hate over dark feelings.
Ugh, what am I thinking about? My childish crush isn’t something out of a Shakespearean drama. I should stop the dramatics and focus.
Tell him.
minicat: Gajeel?
bigcat: what up tiny?
minicat: Are you free right now?
minicat: There’s something important I want to talk about.
bigcat: yeah i’m free today
bigcat: what’s wrong?
Her fingers gripped the sheets of her bed. Do it. Tell him.
minicat: I like you.
minicat: I mean, in the romantic sense.
minicat: In the sense that I want to hold your hand.
minicat: And hug you.
minicat: And kiss you.
minicat: I’m sorry.
bigcat: wait what?
bigcat: what are you sorry for?
bigcat: i’ve been into you for like
bigcat: a year or something
minicat: You what?
bigcat: ha
bigcat: ha
bigcat is calling you…
Levy promptly dropped her phone, her hands shaking. She needed a couple of tries to swipe in the proper direction in order to pick the call.
“Hello?” she called out, her voice shaky and breathy.
“You’re so fucking dumb” came the voice from the other side, cracking just a bit. “I love you so damn much, dumbass.”
She stared at her room’s wall in awe, seeing black spots dance in her vision.
“Lev? Levy, fuck, answer—”
It took her only a couple of minutes—and some more of him calling her name— in order to gather her brains enough to form a coherent answer.
“Excuse me, you what?”
Laugh. He was laughing, the arrogant, egoisitic—
“I love you” Gajeel called from the other side of the connection, his voice cracking with laughter. “So damn much, you horrible, horrible, idiot bookworm.”
She covered her mouth to stop the choked sob for escaping, tears running from her eyes. She’d spent months wondering and pondering and torturing herself, and hoping, hoping for a little answer, the smallest hint—
“Say it” he told her. “I want to hear you say it.”
“Say what?” Levy asked, pulling her knees against her chest.
“You know what! Say it!”
She bit her knuckles to hold back another burst of emotion, feeling fear and worry and joy mix into her belly until every breath she took was heavy and ragged.
“I love you” she whispered, gasping.
“I know. But I do more.”
“To Andromeda and back” she added, and laughed, tears of joy trickling down her cheeks.
He stayed up with her for hours, until it was 3 am and the girl next door slammed against the wall and yelled for her to shut the fuck up.
“I suppose I have to say goodnight” Levy whispered as she tucked herself into bed. “Goodnight, Gajeel.”
“Night, Lev. Will you dream of me?”
“Maybe.” She smiled. “Talk more tomorrow?”
“Always.”
lionheart: Have you ever considered a double suicide?
black-panther: why are we pulling a romeo and juliet?
lionheart: Remember that exam I told you about?
black-panther: yikes
lionheart: Exactly. Yikes.
black-panther: sorry lev
black-panther: if it calms your heart i have finals too
lionheart: It does not!
lionheart: Why are you texting me instead of studying?
black-panther: i’m already dead inside tiny
black-panther: it won’t be much of a difference if i fail my academic career too
lionheart: I hate you.
black-panther: no you don’t
lionheart: No, I don’t.
black-panther: do you wanna talk?
black-panther: i have a free period in a bit
lionheart: I don’t think I would be able to.
lionheart: You’ve seen my revision schedule.
black-panther: i have
black-panther: it’s ridiculous
black-panther: you’re panicking too much
lionheart: I’m not panicking.
black-panther: you are
black-panther: i mean you’re texting me
black-panther: that means you don’t want to revisit and you want to distract yourself from studying
lionheart: I’m texting you because I’m dating you and I miss you!
black-panther: that’s cute
black-panther: but my point stands
lionheart: Gajeel, I need to pass this.
lionheart: My whole life depends on this.
black-panther: i know lev
black-panther: that’s why i know you’re gonna do this
black-panther: and even if you don’t
black-panther: that doesn’t make you a failure
lionheart: Gajeel…
black-panther: live ain’t just classes and grades and uni
lionheart: Thank you.
black-panther: wait i want to continue my tirade
lionheart: You care about me, don’t you?
black-panther: i’m dating you, dumbass
black-panther: and since don’t have any sort of instinct of self-preservation
black-panther: i gotta fill in
lionheart: I love you, grumpy.
black-panther: love you too dumb woman
lionheart: <3
princess: Gajeel?
dragon: fuck
dragon is calling you...
“You really should stop doing that and just talk to me, you know” Levy said softly as soon as she picked, leaning into her comfy chair and sticking her legs out.
“Turn on your camera.”
She blinked and tilted her head back, staring at the ceiling.
“Gajeel, I’m not turning on my camera, I look horrible.”
 “Levy, love of my life, sun to my moon, turn the fucking camera on and let me see you.”
Levy let out a low hum, barely containing a wave of giggles as he started cursing from the other side. She’d found she loved teasing him—once she’d gotten under his skin, she knew just how to push his buttons in order to have the most fun possible.
“And what if I don’t?” she asked, lowering her voice to a gentle whisper.
“Please?”
Her chest filled with warmth at the sheer feeling in his voice. Levy whispered a soft “okay” and set the phone down by her laptop, then pressed her finger to the small camera button and waited. Her teeth dug into her lip to contain her nerves. It was rare that they talked on camera and dear God, she looked like a mess—
“Hey.”
When she looked at the small screen, Levy saw her chérie and smiled at him. All the worries in her belly came to an end, however, when she met his eyes. She waved shyly at him, pulling the pillow she kept on her desk to her chest and hugging it tightly.
“Hi” she called back, hoping her smile conveyed her joy. She wanted to hide so much.
Gajeel looked almost as much of a mess as she felt. His hair—sweet goodness, it was even longer than she remembered it now!—was tied off into a messy ponytail, his black-framed glasses almost falling off his nose. When she looked hard enough, she noticed he had added another pair of studs to his ears, bringing the total to eight. The eyeliner on his lids was just a bit smudged and from the back of her mind, she wondered when he’d put it on.
More than ever before, Levy wished she could touch him, run her fingers over his cheeks and his jaw and that small uneven bump in his nose he’d told her he’d gotten after breaking his nose when he was little; bury them into his hair and feel the silken strands between her fingers. And then, then she would kiss him, press her mouth to his, feel the warmth of his lips against her own.
“Stop hiding” Gajeel called out, a hint of amusement in his voice, and she looked up from where she’d buried her face into her fluffy pillow. “I want to see you. Please, Lev?”
“O-okay” she said with a bashful smile and lifted her head so she could properly meet his eyes. “Just for you.”
Even through the screen and all the kilometers between them, she could feel his gaze on her, touching her and caressing her as if it were his hands and not his eyes. It filled her with a warmth that not even the cold of the wind blowing outside could put down, that spread from the ends of her hair to the tips of her fingers and made her feel… Loved.
“Beautiful” he breathed out, his eyes soft and gentle. “Fuck—you look like a goddamn angel or something.”
Levy buried her face into the pillow and laughed, laughed until her chest hurt and she could barely breathe. His words, awkward but filled with kindness and affection, were more precious to her than any high praise someone could sing her.
“Do you really think so?” she asked when she finally gathered her breath, her face flushed with warmth. “I was worried you might not like it…”
“I don’t like it” he said, and for a moment her heart fell. “I goddamn love it.”
“Don’t scare me like that! Silly Gajeel…”
Gajeel laughed and it made her heart sing along, a smile coming to her face despite her desire to pout and hide in a corner. Had he been there, with her, she would have pushed him to the ground and tackled him, hitting his stupid beautiful face with her pillow. Alas, he was far, far away, and the only thing she could do was laugh along and stick her tongue out to him in the most childish manner ever.
She loved this idiot so much.
“Why didn’t you tell me before?” Gajeel asked after some time.
“I was worried you might try to convince me not to” Levy admitted, holding the comfy pillow to her chest and tucking her feet under her thighs. “My grandparents are probably going to have a heart attack when they see me, but honestly… I love the feeling of it.”
“Well, it certainly loves you. Hell, you look amazing.” His smile made her toes curl with joy. “Like a tiny, sparkly blue diamond.”
“Just because you’re tall doesn’t mean you get to make fun of us small people, giant.”
“Levy, you’re five feet nothing.”
“Five feet and half an inch!” She was exactly five feet, but he didn’t know that. Yet. “I’m exactly 1 meter and 53 centimeters tall! You’re just jealous because I’m the perfect cuddling size!”
“Lev, you’re so tiny I can probably fit you in my pocket.” His smirk only fed her sudden desire to kick him. “So small. Bite-sized.”
Oh, if looks could kill… Gajeel only laughed at her, the sound sending pleasurable shivers all through her body. Levy let out a sound of defeat and buried her face into her pillow, desperately hoping it could silence her cries of anguish. Sadly, it did not.
“You’re so cute when you pretend to hate me” he cooed. “C’mon, blue, look at me.”
Shy, Levy lifted her head met him. Her moon—she’d found she liked calling him that, to match him calling her his sun—had a soft look on him. He wasn’t smiling with his mouth but instead with his eyes, the deep brown-red now filled with warmth and the sort of adoration she’d only read about in her old romance books.
“You called me blue” she mused. “A new nickname?”
“To match your new hair, of course.” His smirk made her shiver. “Do you like it?”
“No, I don’t” Levy admitted with a bashful smile. “To be true, I love it.”
The banner was growing heavy and her arms could barely keep holding it up, but to hell if she was going to put it down.
She'd spent hours upon hours last night to make the best possible welcome banner. In the end, what came out of her desperate attempts was bigger than anything her arms would hold, with “Welcome, Gajeel!” written in the brightest, most neon shade of pink she had been able to find after days of searching around the stores in the Parisian neighborhood her auntie lived in. Flowers and hearts decorated the bright pink letters.
His plane had landed half an hour ago. She saw it touch down and saw the bridge. She saw people coming out, luggage and everything.
He was nowhere to be seen.
Levy did her best to not panic.
She'd arrived at the airport precisely 15 minutes before the plane landed, courtesy to the poor taxi driver she almost drove insane. (She'd left the largest tip her broke student self could afford.) The first part of them was spent in pacing around and muttering to herself in a peculiar combination of french and english. The second contained excitedly bouncing around the entry doors with the banner flying in her arms, unable to contain her joy.
By now, her arms were positively dying down from the weight and the size and the effort it took to keep it up. The neon pink letters glimmered in the harsh Parisian sun. Yet Levy held it up, determined to hold out. Even if it meant muscle fever for the next week.
“You look even tinier in person.”
Levy whipped around, retort on the tip of her tongue. She promptly hit herself in the face with the banner in her haste to fight whoever called her out for her height and their horrible french.
Then her mind registered what was actually said and she squeaked.
The person standing beside her only laughed. They were wearing the widest, happiest grin she'd ever had the courtesy to see, only mirrored by the one she'd noticed on her own face the morning when she woke up. Her eyes saw long hair and gleaming silver and incredibly impractical leather and combat boots. Her hair only saw warm red-brown eyes and a smile.
Gajeel raised one eyebrow at her, crossing his arms.
“Really?”
And then she promptly squealed and threw herself into his arms.
“I can't believe you hit me with the banner” Gajeel complained.
Levy was too happy to remind him why exactly she hit him, her hand tightly gripping his to the point her knuckles were almost white. He didn't seem to mind it, holding her as close as it was socially acceptable. The banner, bright pink letters and flowers and hearts, hung from her other arm, safely tucked against her side.
The sun shone brightly as she led him to the taxis lined just outside the airport. People were rushing in and out of the large building, like ants desperate to follow their High Queen’s orders. She heard a combination of languages all around her. Usually, the loud sounds and the mess and the people pushing against her would have sent her into a state of near panic. Right now however, with Gajeel gripping her as if she was his lifeline, Levy felt oddly calm.
She found she liked that feeling a lot.
His uncle waited for them by one of the larger taxis, arguing with the driver. He was just as tall and his aura just as murderous as she'd seen Gajeel's in one of his bad moods. His choice of language wasn't very far from it, either… The red-faced driver was almost glowing by now, bellowing insults in french and broken english in the same way.
Levy looked at Gajeel and noticed his nose wrinkling like it always did when he saw something funny.
“Should we interrupt?” she whispered, although she was sure even if she'd spoken louder, neither would have heard her.
“Nah.” Gajeel snickered and pulled her closer, his fingers slipping from her grip when his arm wrapped around her. “Lemme watch. It's fun as hell.”
Levy gaped, her mouth opening and closing. He was warm. Despite the searing July heat, she found herself nuzzling into his hold. His other arm followed and soon she was buried into his chest, face pressed into the faded gray shirt he wore. His scent - spice and just a little bit of sweat - made her belly curls and brought out a purr from the back of her throat. His laughter rang against the crown of her heat. Her flesh and bones melted at the warmth of his hold. She felt safe and sound. She never wanted to let him go.
It took time and strength to untangle herself from his hold. Gajeel looked like a kicked puppy and Levy had to cover her mouth to hide her giggles. He pinched her in retaliation and she yelped, pulling back and almost falling. (Again. Would she ever stop embarrassing herself in front of him?)
Just a meter or so away his uncle was still arguing with the driver, their fight growing louder by the minute. The passerby would stop and watch them. Levy felt her cheeks burn with shame. It wasn't something she hadn't seen before - her own family had no less fire—but not for the first time, she felt embarrassed.
Gajeel either noticed her discomfort or felt in a similar situation, because he stepped ahead and grabbed his uncle's shoulder. His voice was a hushed whisper. Levy couldn't help but notice how different it sounded from when he spoke to her—rougher, more natural, with an accent that made something in her tingle. His uncle let out a disappointed huff, yet still turned around and apologized to the red-faced driver about some of the words he'd used.
Levy watched the object of her affection (her silly dragon) with curiosity. To her utter surprise, Gajeel turned to the driver and spoke in clear, if lightly accented, french to him, apologizing further for his uncle's behavior and for not stepping in earlier. His uncle—whose name was Acnologia, it seemed—looked at him with a mixture of shame and annoyance. Gajeel ignored him and smiled with satisfaction when the driver opened the door and welcomed them in his vehicle.
After a particularly long and awkward (Gajeel had taken pity on her and let her sit by the window while he answered all of his uncle's embarrassing questions about their relationship) drive, their taxi stopped at the small square in the middle of the neighborhood. Levy got out immediately and moved her toes in her shoes, eager to take them off and dip them into cold water. Gajeel followed behind, the welcome banner under his arm and with that stupid grin on his stupid face. His uncle helped him get all his luggage.
“You sure you're gonna be okay, brat?” he asked, setting down the last bag. “There's plenty of space at the hotel.”
“Nope. Not gonna miss a single second around Blue.”
Acnologia made a sound that could only be described as gagging and waved him off, then got back into the taxi. Soon enough they took off, the sound reverberating through the relatively empty streets.
Gajeel was frowning.
“What is it?” Levy asked, adjusting the knot of her ribbon.
“I imagined Paris more… “
“More…?”
“Dunno. More… Not empty.”
Levy covered her mouth and giggled. He looked so confused. She wished she could take a photo of him like this. Alas, he would more than not likely finally fulfill his threats tickle her to death if she tried. Her wish would stay a wish.
(Fortunately, she had a whole folder on her laptop saved with embarrassing photos of him. His mother had sent some - “for posterity”, she'd claimed - but the rest were all screenshots from their face times. She would have so much fun finally getting to blackmail him.)
“Well, it’s hot outside” Levy reminded him as she picked some of his bags. “Also, we’re in the suburbs right now. Tomorrow, I’m taking out you to see the city.”
“Taking me out?” Gajeel asked, amusement written over his face. She couldn’t stop staring at him. “Like a date? Or with a sniper gun?”
“We will see” she said, giggling.
Together the three managed to carry all the luggage up the stairs. Aunt Amelie was ecstatic to finally meet the “sweetheart you haven’t stopped talking about for years!”. Levy gaped, torn between utter embarrassment and the urge to scream. Gajeel laughed so much he almost fell on the floor, clutching his stomach. At that point she had to hold back the desire to disappear into the floor.
They set his things in the small guest room by the side. Levy sat on the bed and watched Gajeel rummage through his bags. He was just five minutes in and the whole room already looked like a hurricane went through it. She found it hilarious.
She must have laughed out loud because when she lifted her head Gajeel was staring at her with a peculiar look in his eyes.
“What is it?” she asked, reaching down to slip off her shoes.
“We’re alone” he muttered. “I just—it’s strange.”
Levy couldn’t quite tell what he was trying to say, so she offered a shy smile. Gajeel looked equal parts confused and amazed, but when she offered her shaking hand, he reached out to grasp it with such eagerness that startled him. Taken by his momentum, she ended falling into his chest, her head knocking against him and sending her glasses somewhere in the floor.
“Sorry for hitting you” she mumbled into the fabric of his shirt. “And for… currently stepping on your feet.”
She tried not to burn as she took a step back, his laughter ringing in her ears.
“No, it’s fine.” His hand dropped from hers, only for seconds later to wrap around her back and pull her closer. “Can I hold you for a bit?”
The question startled her, but Levy nodded her head anyway, shyly curling her arms around his middle and burying her face into his chest. The warmth he seemed to radiate filled her soul, from bottom to top, as if she’d been drained from life for ages and only now got to feel it.
“You feel safe” she whispered, voice muffled by the cotton.
Gajeel let out a humming sound, his grip growing tighter around her. Instead of afraid, she felt as if she wanted to come closer and closer, until there was no space left between them. But perhaps it wasn’t the right time yet.
“So do you.”
A Beating Heart
Nines gets a kitty. c: This was honestly inspired by a picture of a injured(damaged?) RK900 holding a kitten.
~x~
It was a chilly Detroit night as RK900 made it's way home after completing it's latest mission. While the crime scene had initially looked to be a break in and missing person's case, it had turned out to be nothing more than an accident while playing hide and go seek. The baby sitter had slipped on a toy and crashed into a bookshelf and glass table. While her injuries were serious, she would likely make a full recovery. The child had been frightened by the noise and remained in their surprisingly good hiding place. If the android didn't have it's bio-sensors the child would have likely not been found. Naturally, Nines had been the one to solve the case as Gavin hung out in a corner being useless and hurling insults at it. Insults so petty that even if Nines had feelings to be hurt, it still would have been rolling it's optical components. Once the case had been solved, Gavin took off without the RK900, leaving it to walk home. It didn't mind though, it didn't feel cold nor did it have emotions to be impacted by Gavin's callousness.
The android suddenly paused, it's LED flickering yellow in contemplation. It had heard something. The noise was very faint, and indeed only barely registered in it's auditory processor, but it was a noise all the same. While RK900 did not experience curiosity, it's investigative protocols seemed to kick in from the noise. It supposed that it wouldn't hurt to see what the cause was, after all it could be a crime in progress or a person that needs help. As an officer of the law, it's main mission is to protect and serve the people.
The closer that Nines got to the sound, the more it determined that the sound was most definitely not human. It went into an abandoned alleyway, sensors on high alert in case this was meant to be a trap. Anti-android traps weren't exactly uncommon. They were completely illegal though. RK900 knelt down in front of a small box, one hand on it's gun and the other carefully reaching into the desecrated cardboard stack. There was definitely something in there, and Nines' bio-scanner could only detect faint signs from one source. The inside of the box. It removed it's hand from it's gun and gently pulled the critter from the box to get a better look at it.
"Mew!" A tiny orange tabby greeted the android. The kitten wiggled around, and Nines kept a gentle, but steady grip on the furry critter. It let out quiet, but steady mews and the android looked it over. First thing of note, the kitten seemed to be only about two weeks old, female, and possibly orphaned. Nines looked around and back at the cold and malnourished kitten. Definitely orphaned. Also of note, the kitten's internal temperature was dangerously low. She will die soon if RK900 doesn't help her. Of course, caring for animals, baby animals especially was not in it's programming. It didn't go against it, but it wasn't within the parameters of what was expected from it. And yet, despite this, Nines found itself tucking the small, chatty thing into it's jacket. Androids didn't produce heat like mammals do, while it was true that the electrical conduction happening in their processors and inner workings did give off heat, the thirium that fueled them also acted as a coolant. It meant that androids were almost always room temperature or cooler. It was one of the things that made them distinguishable from humans. But in that moment, the only thing preventing a cold death for that poor kitten was the climate inappropriate fabric making up the android's jacket. It wasn't much, but it would have to do.
With the kitten secured, Nines made it's way to the nearest animal shelter. The local municipal shelter was thankfully still open, even if Nines had only managed to come in a few minutes before they closed for the night. Being a public shelter, they would have to take the tiny tabby in. The squirrely young man at the counter was cleaning up when he saw RK900 approaching. He immediately stiffened once he caught sight of the android. He was obviously intimidated, but RK900 didn't care. The android approached the man.
"I found this-" the human flinched as RK900 reached into it's jacket, only to relax when it pulled the kitten out. "In a box outside. It's hypothermic, malnourished, dehydrated, and likely abandoned." The young man's eyes softened as he grasped the small kitten.
"Poor baby..." He cooed softly, cradling the infant tabby to his chest. He gave Nines a grave look. "We don't have any volunteers available to care for this kitten, unfortunately. So, if you are unable to take her, we'll have to euthanize her." RK900 remained stoic, and the man cast his gaze to the side. "However, if you'd be willing to keep the kitten, I'll feed her and give her some treatment right now and I could give you some supplies to care for her."
RK900 was a machine, it ran off protocols and functions. It did not feel, it could not feel. And unlike it's predecessor, it did not go deviant and start simulating human emotions. Even the steady thrum of the thirium pump in it's chest was only a utility meant to keep it functional. It wasn't like a beating heart. And yet still, the RK900 found itself accepting the young man's offer foster the squirmy furball. He seemed surprised that Nines had decided to keep the kitten. Even RK900 itself couldn't explain what was driving it to put so much effort into trying to save one insignificant animal. It knew that the kitten's chances of survival were low, but it was trying to help it anyway.
Once the kitten had been re-hydrated, warmed, and fed, the squirrely young man gave RK900 some kitten meal replacement formula, a small bed with a blanket, a heating pad, and a bottle. Along with instructions on caring for kittens. When it got home, the android set up the small bed and heating pad for the kitten next to it's work desk. As for Nines' apartment, it was basically an empty apartment with a desk and a single shelving unit. Some called it weird, others called it minimalistic, Nines called it an apartment. It looked over at the teeny tabby curled up on the small cat bed next to it's work desk. Without even considering why, Nines got down and sat next to the kitten, gently running his fingertips on the kitty's head. The kitten purred and leaned into the touch, even going as far as to start kneading it's blanket. Nines couldn't explain it's behavior. It couldn't feel the kitten's fur under it's fingertips, but it assumed that it was warm and soft. Even if it had no real concept of what warm and soft really are, it could define them as adjective words, but had no real reference of what they really felt like. RK900 paused, fingers on either side of the kitten's neck. There was no real reason for it to care for this small creature. After all, she served no purpose in accomplishing it's set task. And it didn't feel anything. It wouldn't be sad or heartbroken if the kitten were to die. In fact... RK900 added minor pressure to the kitten's neck. ...It could probably kill the thing and feel nothing at all.
...
Nines removed it's fingers from the kitten's neck. It felt absolutely nothing for this kitten, but still couldn't bring itself to kill her. It wondered why, it couldn't comprehend the reasons for keeping the thing alive. The kitten served no purpose and was only a use of RK900's time and a potential distraction. Though, it supposed that maybe one of it's co-workers would be open to taking in the kitten. As for now, RK900 was more than capable of caring for a simple kitten. She needed to be fed every few hours, but since androids don't require rest, that really isn't a problem.
As the time to start work for the next day drifted closer, Nines found that the newly fed kitten was nestling against and kneading (or rather, attempting to knead) it's chest. The kitten likely felt the vibrations from it's thirium pump and must have assumed that the biocomponant was it's mother's heart. Rather than remove the kitten, Nines gently stroked the tabby's head and went back to contemplating why it didn't leave the kitten to die. But no matter which point it attempted to address the question from, it could find no answer. It didn't know why it decided to save the kitten's life. It just did. There was also another problem to consider. It wondered if it should give the kitten a name of some sort. Nines couldn’t keep calling her “kitten.”
Ultimately it decided that naming the cat was too deviant.
At the precinct, the kitten got loads of positive attention. Plenty of "awwws" and "so cutes" from the other officers as she wiggled around in her pet carrier. Unfortunately, no one offered to take her. As soon as Gavin spotted RK900, he sauntered over, likely prepping another one of his speeches about how humans are better than androids or whatever. However the smirk fell from his face once he heard a tiny mew emanating from the carrier.
"Hey Nines, you got a cat?" Gavin was reaching into the carrier and gently stroking the little kitten with a finger. She responded by purring and rubbing against his hand. "Aww, soft kitter. Smol kitter..." Gavin purred.
"...Kitter?" That's an interesting term for a cat. "I found her abandoned in a cardboard box at approximately 11:24 last night."
"So what did you name her?" Gavin held in an ugly laugh. "Cat?"
"I didn't." Nines didn't even look at his co-worker, he had been done with this conversation before it had begun. "I plan on giving her to someone else. I have no intentions of adopting this cat."
"Really now?" Gavin's smirk was a little less malicious than usual. "They all say that."
"I am not adopting this animal." RK900's stoic face and monotone voice held. Gavin shrugged. "Well detective Reed, you're quite fond of domestic felines. Why don't you take her?" Gavin laughed, hard.
"I have three cats already, Nines. This little pumpkin," Gavin gestured towards the kitten that was now napping. "Is your responsibility." He laughed as he walked away and RK900 went back to working at it's terminal.
Later on, RK900 found itself being bothered by it's predecessor.
"You adopted a kitten?" There was a hint of surprise to the RK800's tone. It was looking into the pet carrier, head tilted slightly.
"I found her."
"Really?" Connor smiled slightly. "Well, RK900, I didn't peg you as the type to do animal rescue. What are you naming her?"
"I'm not, my plan is to give her to someone else."
"Oh." The android deflated slightly. "I'd take her, but Sumo might not get along with her." Of course Connor would offer to help, as it was known to simulate empathy. However, introducing a new animal into a household that already has pets is not an easy thing to do. Cats and dogs don't always get along, and a small kitten wouldn't stand a chance if Sumo decided that he didn't want to share his home. That end result would be... less than ideal.
[^Software Instability]
Nines casually ignored the warning in his peripheral and went back to work.
It wasn't until late, when RK900 was about to return home when LT Anderson approached it.
"So I heard you were looking for someone to give your little kitten to."
"Yes I was, did you happen to know someone who-"
"Look," Hanks eyes and voice were firm, commanding even. "Don't pawn that poor kitten off to someone else if you can take care of it. It's bad enough the poor little guy lost it's momma. It doesn't need to be abandoned again." Hank was about to go when he suddenly turned back around to face RK900. "Oh and give the poor thing a name for fucks sake."
Hank's words had an effect on Nines, as he carefully considered what the old man had said to him. He told him in no uncertain terms to adopt the cat. Of course, RK900 didn't take orders from him, so he had no obligation to listen. There really wasn't anything stopping him from dropping the kitten off at some shelter and going about it's existence. However, instead Nines found itself walking back into it's apartment and preparing some food for the kitten. It had no explanation for why it had decided to keep the kitten. It just did.
Once the kitten was nice and fed and slipped out of Nine's grasp and wiggled up to his pump regulator. The kitten rubbed against the area and started to purr.
[^Software Instability]
Nines didn't truly comprehend what it was experiencing in that moment, but it seemed pleasant. It gently rested it's hand on the kitten and began stroking her softly. Pumpkin Spice. Nines would name the kitten Pumpkin Spice. The kitten mewed softly as the android cradled her against it's chest. Unlike Pumpkin Spice, Nines didn't have a beating heart in it's chest. Only the cold, steady thrum of a thirium pump to keep it going.
But for Pumpkin Spice, that would do.
Note
i remember a while back you wrote some very cute 'juno adopts a cat' fic but have you considered what it might be like if peter got himself a small kitten friend (did he steal the cat? its not out of the question)
Peter should sell the cat.
No, he will sell the cat.
It’s one of those Shangoan Mini-Leopards that’s so fashionable. It wouldn’t exactly be the highest-earning score that he’s ever made, but a few hundred creds would be a decent amount of pocket change. It might come in handy.
Besides, he doesn’t know the first thing about how to take care of an animal. Mag was very specific about his policy toward stray animals growing up, and for good reasons.
He’s a thief, after all; his survival depends on quick escapes and invisibility, and he can’t do the former if he’s lugging a cat carrier onto every spaceship and he can’t do the latter if he’s setting off a mark’s allergies or leaving behind telltale cat hairs on a crime scene, and nothing would leave quite as obvious a trail as bags of used litter and cans of tuna brick.
He is definitely getting rid of it.
He is.
Or he will, as soon as it gets off of him. As soon as he sat down, the cat perched on his chest like it meant to keep him anchored to the hotel armchair. Which is absurd, of course-- it’s just a cat. It has no way of knowing how much he feels like he’s drifting right now; it can’t even comprehend a concept so abstract. But here it is, like a paperweight on his chest, warm and soft and purring.
It’s been doing that ever since he made the mistake of petting the fuzzy little thing, purring so loud that it quite nearly set off an alarm on his way out. And it looked so sad to see him go, he couldn’t not take it with him. It even seemed to enjoy the ride, perching on his shoulder while he made his escape.
Later examination found no evidence of harm, no underfeeding-- by all means, it was well taken care of-- but it’s clearly been sorely deprived of human company, which isn’t fair at all. It’s a clever, needy little thing. A perfect companion for anyone, really-- except a thief.
He wraps his arms around the fuzzy little thing, and it nuzzles his cheek, and he can’t help falling a little more in love with it.
He can’t sell it.
He can’t keep it, either, but he can’t bear to give such a sweet cat away to a fence, just to be sold off to the first blank face who’s willing to part with a few creds. Who knows what might happen to the poor thing.
But he can’t keep it, either.
Peter isn’t there when Juno steps into his office the next day. He doesn’t get to see the agitation and alarm on the detective’s face when he learns they’ve got a new office pet-- but only because the hidden cameras he’s installed in the office don’t hit that angle.
“I would keep her at my place,” Rita explains in a rush. “But you know my building don’t allow pets, Mista Steel, and I can’t leave her at my aunt’s ‘cuz she’s allergic, and besides, this little cutie ain’t even mine. And ain’t you a cutie? Yes you are. Ain’t she, boss? Ain’t she just the prettiest kitty you’ve ever seen?”
Juno’s eyes narrow. “What do you mean she’s not yours?”
Rita pops her head up abruptly from cuddling the cat. “I’m just holding onto her until Agent Glass can get Dark Matters to let him keep her at his place. But there’s no tellin’ how long that’s gonna take, so until then this little cutie is all mine!”
It’s a little bit gratifying to see the expression on Juno’s face when he hears that-- like he’s been stunned with a cheap blaster-- but not so much as the way his face softens when he takes a second look at the cat.
“Okay,” he says quietly. “Just watch it. I don’t want it getting out or anything.”
“Like I’m ever gonna take my eyes off this pretty kitty.” The protest devolves into a barrage of kisses on the cat’s nose and forehead, right until Juno scoops it out of Rita’s arms.
“You keep that up and it’s gonna bite you,” Juno scolds, letting the cat go free to roam the office. He’s trying to sound surly, but he can’t quite pull it off.
Peter keeps watching the feed until he has to board the spaceship.
