S15 Boxset Featurettes: A Summary
So I watched all 3 so you don't have to, but if you do plan to watch any of the featurettes on the s15 boxset, here’s a warning. All of “The End of the Road" is about 15x19 and 15x20, and pretty much nothing else. They talk about Dean's death a lot, and there's of course a TON of finale positivity. Dabb and Singer are very proud of the finale and feel it was the perfect ending. They also reveal that they built the entire season around Dean's death. They show 2 small clips from Despair, and do not mention it by name, or discuss it at all.
In "Family Don't End with Blood" it's a segment that is supposed to be about found family, but they talk about Sam and Dean alone for 98% of it. The other characters (aside from brief comments about Cas and Jack) are pretty much only mentioned by name once or twice and not really discussed at all. They basically list off characters and make umbrella statements about hwo important found family is. The confession is never mentioned, and Cas as a character or his impact on the last 12 years of plot, is not discussed at all. And they even use "Cas you're like a brother" clip, so that should tell you all you need to know.
In "Winchester Mythology" it's discussion of the "americana aesthetic" and "core" of Supernatural. They mostly talk about early seasons and Sam and Dean as characters. At one point they literally spend 3 minutes talking about JUST 6x18 Frontieer Land, in realtion to how they are "midwestern heroes", and they play the clip where they say Sam's name is "Walker". They also give a very questionable character analysis of each of them. Then they spend 3 minutes talking about how Baby is a "character" on the show. They also make Misha and Alex talk about the Impala, but not their own characters at all.
Pretty much the only people that speak are Dabb, Singer, Buckleming, J*red, Jensen. Occassionally Misha and Alex talk, but they only actually discuss their own characters a total of 3-4 times, and Mark Sheppard And Jim Beaver each say like 1 sentence. Al of the other characters are rarely mentioned (pretty sure they only said Eileen's name once), and the entire thing is basically only about Sam and Dean. Overall, it was essentially 70 minutes of postive finale talk, mentions of Dean's death in a positive manner, and lack of acknowledgement of other crucial characters and they're importance to the show. It was extremely depressing and made me feel about 20x worse than I already did, I highly recommend you don't watch them, it's really not worth it. So watch at your own risk.
