Sure, it was all on their minds when the shooter was lose - more so the thought of themselves or their teammates getting shot and less so of how the 136 got eddie to the hospital so fast after being shot.

Bobby was focused on protecting his team from further harm, and then focused on recovery

Hen was busy studying. Chimney was focused on Maddie. Eddie was acting like nothing had happened (some days Buck wonders if he remembers anything about that day besides waking up in the hospital).

And Buck? Buck has been focused on being fine. Everyone else seems fine. He wasn’t even the one who got shot.

Except, no one truly knows what went down between Eddie and Buck responding to the call to ending up in the hospital waiting room. Or the extent of how much Buck is ignoring and pretending everything’s fine.

Or; no one at the 118 knows that Buck went into the line of fire and got eddie from bleeding out. That is until bodycam footage is leaked showing an up close version of events (even inside the firetruck during triage??) that bring the traumatic event into the public eye

all i can think about is an au where eddie is awake when buck is climbing the crane in 4x14 but buck gets shot. its not an immediately life threatening wound like maybe in his arm or his thigh or something and it happens when he's almost back down on the ground and the 118 rushes to get him to hospital. and then eddie's being checked on by a nurse and she's suddenly called away for surgery because another firefighter has been shot and eddie turns cold but no one will tell him anything and then a few hours later he sees bobby walking past his door and eddie's like "u aren't here for me, are you?" and bobby just blanches, and eddie can't breathe but he has to know, has to hear it, so he asks and bobby chokes out buck's name and eddie waits until ana leaves for the bathroom or whatever before grabbing his iv stand and sneaking (hobbling) in the vague direction of where bobby went until he finds buck's room and he just freezes in the doorway and stares at buck, blinking away the image of buck covered in blood, until buck looks up and sees him and its just. this moment of clarity where buck goes from tired and in pain to worried about eddie but buck just scoots over on the bed and eddie sits down next to him and they just stay like that until bobby and ana find them and-

Eddie was still conscious and was reaching towards Buck. His heart was still beating.

Buck was pretty much dead on impact, in full cardiac arrest.... his heart stopped beating

Buck, after going into a state of almost catatonic shock and just plain numbness from seeing Eddie get shot right in front of them, and when he got out of it, you could see it on his face and in his eyes. He was able crawl underneath a firetruck in the middle of gunfire to PULL EDDIE TOWARDS HIM AKA TOWARDS SAFETY. Because Buck is Eddie's safety. Buck took the risk of moving in the middle of gunfire because he will always ensure & care about Eddies' health and safety . He picked up his bleeding out & dead weight partner and threw him into a firetruck with a crew he doesn't know and doesn't trust. He doesn't allow anybody but himself to keep Eddie alive, because the only other people he trust to help him do so aren't there. When Eddie was confused from blood loss he thought Buck was hurt, Buck was alive, conscious, and physically unharmed. So, he was able to tell him he was fine and that all he needed to worry about was hanging on until they got to hospital.

Eddie, after getting jolted off the top of the firetruck from a lighting bolt, took a second to gather his bearings, while the others stared in shock at what they just witnessed. But the second he does see him, you could see it on his face and in his eyes, then he's racing up a metal ladder after lightning just struck, not knowing or caring if he's gonna get hit next, cause as we know lighting strikes twice. When he got to Buck he tried to PULL him towards himself aka towards safety. Because Eddie is just as much Bucks' safety as he is Eddies'. Despite it all, Eddie couldn't pull him towards himself. He would always ensure Bucks health and safety, so he had no choice but to PUSH HIM AWAY to send him down to the some of the only other people in the world he trusts to do the same. The entire time Buck is unconscious with no pulse. When Eddie got back to street level, physically out of danger, he reaches Buck and begs him to say something, anything to let him know that he can hear him, that he's alive. Buck can't do that, he's in full cardiac arrest and they couldn't get his heartbeat back (before the episode ended). His heart stopped beating. For all intent and purposes (until the next episode comes out because we've seen the stills) right now, Buck. Is. Dead.

Buck is Eddie's heart and Eddie is his. Eddie's heart never stopped beating... until his did

ahh it's nothing substantial, i'm afraid!!! i was mostly just thinking about how much he's visibly grown up since s1/2???? like, in a way i feel as if oliver's appearance has changed the most since the show started? which i guess makes sense considering he's the youngest adult cast member but god like!!! i look at buck now and that's a man, obviously. but it really just emphasises how young buck actually looked in s1-3??????? from the wide eyes to the clean cut to lack of stubble (and also oliver is just bigger now too than he was back then). and you know this is ofc down to the fact that oliver stark is a human man who gets older every year but something something you could also read it as showing the progression of how the job has changed/impacted buck, y'know?????

Current obsession - the updates and changes to the Diaz house!!

Eddie has a new painting over the mantle

and a new one next to the front door in red and blue. The fire engine/truck on its side on the table has me feeling a certain type of way - it feels like a nod to the ladder truck explosion that crushed Bucks leg, but it could also be foreshadowing for this season as well - we'll have to wait and see how things shake out!

There are new band posters in Christophers room - the Lunadeers one under the solar system mobile. The name Lunadeers is a fun one - its obviously a play on the band the Lumineers - a made up name, but is a play on the concept of illuminating something - the idea of lighting the way in the darkness - illuminating is also the idea of becoming enlightened and seeing things differently or in a new light.

Luna = moon and is obviously connected to the space theming, but there is also the deers part of the name - deers are crepuscular animals - they are more active at night - in the darkness - under the moon

I'm also clowning is a reference to Buddie because the 'mun' in Edmundo is pronounced moon and a male deer is a Buck - so moon-deer - Eddie and Buck - a nod to Christophers two fathers rom the set and props departments!

Then there is also the Violet Brothers poster on the back of his door - heavily leaning wards the yellow and blue colour ways, there is also the fact that violet is a really interesting colour - it represents future hopes and dreams, imagination and sensitivity!

Not to mention all the watery themes things I've already spotted - mostly what seem to be camp stickers on his wardrobe and the pinboard

theres also a 'boom' sticker - which I love as a possible nod to Christophers roast of Buck in 6x01, but also as a nod to the explosives buck and Eddie have dealt with as part of their job - the grenade and the rocket from this episode plus the foreshadowing of the ship going boom!

The cool cool cool sticker is giving me Abed from community vibes (a queer coded character in his own right!)

and Christophers room has now gained a plant - it moves around a bit - its on the table next to the lamp by the window, then its in a basket next to the table, but its possibly a nod to Christopher growing up!
