Fly Me to the Moon - by Mcat (8/10)
Tumblr media
Everybody loves a love triangle, but I personally think love lines are more dramatic. It's gross when someone you don't like is following you. Especially when you're busy trying to woo the lover you deserve. The tension is nice, and of course this love line turns into stalking. Also, everybody present is a monster. As a bonus.
She's depressed.
She's ugly.
She's poor.
She's lonely enough to accept any kind of attention.
Our protagonist looks boring as heck at first.
Tumblr media
Jeongyeon has been stuck in the role of caregiver for too long. Her mother had cancer, and some people just can't handle that. She became feeble, angry, and spoiled. Jeongyeon had no life when her mother was alive, and now that she's dead there's nothing to...do? She just has an old house, booze, and cigarettes. Taeho is a monster. He's a demon(?) called a Clansmen. Being one is super convenient. You are born super smart. You get to live longer. You get to be pretty, but life gets complicated. The Clan is a secret. It runs like a professional sort of cult. Clan cops and doctors keep everything hushed up, and Clan politicians handle the bribes. Taeho is a piece of shit. His father was also a piece of crap, but Taeho's big brother is Leader. The leader of a huge Clansmen branch. Taegyung is a responsible and good monster guy. He's also kinda Taeho's father AND brother. The slow aging process creates alot of complex relationships. Taeho is spoiled. Everybody lets him do crime and shit because of Taegyung.
Tumblr media
Taeho might be spoiled, but life with a brother for a dad kinda stinks. Taeho got married to please everybody. He married a perfect Clan princess, but then he killed her. Taeho is a member of the Seo branch. That means he's really powerful. So powerful that...um...when he takes a wife and has a baby said wife can go insane. His wife ATE his first child. He got angry and he ripped apart the princess. Everybody is blaming him, because he executed her without thinking about what her powerful family would do. He was a terrible husband. Her family wants his head on a plate in exchange for her death...which kinda is unfair. Her insanity wasn't really his fault...and she literally ate a baby, but he should have just captured her. Taeho was almost eaten by his mom as well...so um...yeah he was never going to be normal. Taeho and Taegyung get pressured to marry and have heirs near constantly, because they're so strong, despite the huge insanity risk.
I completely understand why this guy grew up into a bad guy, but he sucks.
He gaslights Jeongyeon. He hangs out at her place while he hides from the Clan that wants him dead. He has no idea how to be affectionate, and he treats Jeongyeon like garbage, even after he develops a crush on her.
Tumblr media
Taegyung has to clean up Taeho's mess. Jeongyeon gets bitten. Taeho does it to punish her. To bind her to him and make her more submissive. Taegyung takes over and he does the Clan bond the proper way. Jeongyeon doesn't trust him at first, but they get along well. Taegyung doesn't want an heir because of the whole cannibal wife thing. He can't fully hate Taeho, because he should have never felt pressured to marry in the first place. He starts to realize his brother can't be saved when he gets to know Jeongyeon.
Tumblr media
They share cigarettes. They're bonded so they feel some attraction...but nothing happens. Taegyung must marry a princess. He gets pestered about it daily. The bond doesn't mean they're married or anything. It just means Taegyung was the one who helped her body transform. Jeongyeon is prettier now and she's also rich. She gets an expense card, and Taegyung lets her leave.
Tumblr media
The leader of the Yu Clan is still very angry. Jeongyeon suffers because she knows Taeho. Everybody assumes she's his mistress, just because Taeho didn't kill or eat her. Jeongyeon gets stalked by demons who want revenge. Taegyung doesn't hover too much, because he's worried. Being a Seo sucks. He feels immensely possessive of Jeongyeon. He tries to put duty first, and he doesn't actually want to lock her up in his mansion. He just gets the urge. It makes him feel like he's not himself.
Tumblr media
This guy tries to kill Jeongyeon...but he's really nice. The dead princess was like a sister to him. He hates Taeho because he's a bastard that never gets punished for his crimes. In the end he protects Jeongyeon from Taeho. Taeho comes back acting like a brat right away. He demands to know why Jeongyeon bonded with his brother, which is a joke. He left her bleeding on the floor. The change would have killed her. Taegyung saved her life. Taeho made her a monster without permission, just to scare her into obeying him.
He's the most unattractive kind of yandere.
Tumblr media
Jeongyeon eventually becomes strong enough to stand up to him on her own. She didn’t want this life. She didn’t want the money. She was just trying to rebuild after the long and painful death of her mother. Taeho made her life worse. Taegyung makes it better. The choice is obvious. Jeongyeon never wavers. She let Taeho crash on her couch because she was lonely, but no more. No more pity. She slaps him every time she meets him. She rejects the idea that abuse is love.
Tumblr media
Chengcheng is the perfect Clan princess. She wants to marry Taegyung. She's been waiting since she turned twelve years old. She thinks she is entitled to him. She thinks Jeongyeon is just another pitiful pet project to Taegyung, just like his loser brother Taeho. She's wrong. Taegyung is getting worse by the day. He keeps fantasizing about hunting down Jeongyeon. That's just the way his bloodline is.
Tumblr media
Taegyung starts to interfere more. He shows up whenever Jeongyeon is in trouble. He's clearly not willing to let Taeho drag her off and treat her like a pet. He wants to treat her like a princess. Everybody is shocked by how naive Jeongyeon is. She thinks Taegyung is a total gentleman, but his Clan knows he has spilled more blood than anyone else. I'm not saying he's not a nice guy. He's fair to humans and he tried his best to be a parent for Taeho, but now I think he's going to rip Taeho's face off.

EEnE headcanons
Double D is only nice to Kevin sometimes because he doesn’t want him to beat up Eddy. Besides for that one time when Double D thought Eddy deserved it for making him think he had an illness. And because he knows that even Double D can get aggravated with Eddy, Kevin tries to encourage him to pick on the con man with friendly interacts. So it’s kinda sorta like gaslighting. But Double D still doesn’t trust him because he knows this. He cares about Eddy too much. Not to mention that pretty much everyone in the cul de sac is nice to Double D because Double D is nice to them. What goes around comes around. Sarah is a huge example of this, she literally has a crush on him.
Plus Double D did somewhat feel bad for Eddy getting a beating afterwards.
Stuffed Pig’s Head is only a meal Rolf’s people eats when a swine has been put down from old age. They say the inner strength and soul of the dead pig will give those who consume it power to continue on. So it’s considered a tribute to the cycle of life. (And it would explain why Rolf hasn’t eaten Wilfred lol)
Marie does May’s nails.
There’s a big red and purple scar under Double D’s hat. When he was extremely little, probably just a few weeks before reaching 2, his curiosity found him in the middle of a dodgeball game with much older kids who teased him for being bad at the game. Later on, Double D built a machine that would launch dodgeballs like rapid fire. He met those same kids and again and used his invention in the next game. Something went wrong, and he, along with the other kids there were sent to the hospital, leaving him with the scar. His parents were utterly ashamed of his actions. The young genius they were raising had turned out to be a monster. Thus, they thought it was better to move to Peach Creek to try and leave this tragic event in their lives behind. Poor Double D is constantly reminded of the guilt whenever his hat is removed. And his parents, now distant and somewhat afraid of their son, community with him through sticky notes.
And yes, his mother stopped rubbing his feet with oil after the incident.
Ed is neurodivergent autistic.
So is Jonny
Rolf’s mother use to comfort him a lot when he was little, hence why he tends to shout “MAMA!” whenever he’s afraid or in pain.
Jimmy is a demi boy
Lee can retract her third eye to hide her demons powers from others. But in that sunflower field was the one time she didn’t think fast enough.
Her father Butch had some kind of demon genetic trait that if he were to repopulate, that DNA would be passed on to the child. Like… all of it… and no, he couldn’t use those demonic powers himself, that’s another side effect of the trait. And that’s also why he left, not because he didn’t wanna be a parent, it’s because he was terrified of what he had brought into the world. (And for good reason) (Also yes demonic traits and powers do exist in this universe, along with holy ones. For example: Jimmy and Sarah with Cupid powers)
Kevin and Nazz were a thing, but broke up cause it just wasn’t working out. Later, Nazz realized she was more in to girls and Kevin thought he’d just be better off single. Plus he was in love with his bike anyway
Blue is a natural hair color
Kevin was Rolf’s first friend he made in the cul-de-sac and was the one who taught The Son of a Shepard (TM) how to play sports.
Nazz is a hippie
Sarah was taught to hate Ed by their parents
Wilfred is Rolf’s emotional support animal for his ptsd towards the wolf incident he experienced as a kid.
In the actual incident, the “wolf man” tore the baby sheep’s head off with his teeth. Leaving poor Rolf traumatized.
And that’s also why Rolf keeps all the sheep in the basement, he wants to protect them.
There’s a program in Peach Creek where the elementary schoolers are allowed to visit the jr high, hence why Jimmy and Sarah are there sometimes despite their young ages.
Speaking of ages
Ed, Edd, n Eddy: 12-13
Sarah: 7-8
Jimmy: 6-7
Jonny 2x4: 11-12
Nazz: 13-14
Kevin: 13-14
Rolf: 14-15
May: 11-12
Marie: 12-13
Lee: 13-14
Eddy’s Brother: 23
Plank: Immortal God
Yes, Plank alive. Again, more demonic powers.
If Edt3 is to be canon, which to me it absolutely is, then I wouldn’t have their relationship with each other be any other way, besides for maybe a little less violence. That’s why I like the ship, nothing needs to change to see the goodness and love they show towards each other. It already feels canon.
Eddy and Double D are bi while Ed is full on gay.
that’s all I have for now. Thanks for reading :)

Group C, Round 2, Poll 2:
Tumblr media
Propaganda under the cut
Vex
When one of the main characters, Zane, is trapped in the Never Realm, he has his memories erased because Vex unplugged him during an important reboot (he's a robot btw) Seeing the opportunity, Vex gaslight and girlbossed Zane into thinking he was the ruler of the realm, (Zane is definitely not) and that Vex was trying to restore his spot on the throne. Long story short he tricks Zane into committing genocide for 40-50 years by freezing people to death (quite literally slay) because Vex told him to, and warped his perception of the world. He gatekeeps Zane from his friends when they come back to save him and further gaslights him like "bestie idk what these guys are talking about, ur the Ice Emperor, not ''Zane', kill them darling" it's a joke in the fandom that his villain arc was being gaslit too hard. This show gets really dark at times but we like to joke about how bad the Ice Chapter is. In conclusion Vex girlbosses himself into becoming the right hand ruler of the world and killed all his family with his new bestie.
Dahlia Hawthorne
she lived. faked her own kidnapping and killed multiple people in unrelated situations. was executed. got her spirit channelled. tried to kill even more people as revenge
Girlypop has done a shit ton of manipulation, committed at least four murders (even one from the grave!) A man’s eaten glass for her, another’s knowingly drank poison. She also puts on the “Weak little girl” act to get away with it all
she is literally THE gaslight gatekeep girlbosser ever. don't wanna spoil anything but like. she is the definition of the words,
"At 14, Dahlia arranged a staged kidnapping (in order to attain a Very High ransom from her wealthy father) with a guy she'd seduced, her stepsister Valerie, and her twin sister Iris (who chickened out) that purposefully landed the guy in jail for her supposed murder. Five years later, the guy broke out of jail and Dahlia framed him for the murder of Valerie (which she committed) and when this truth was exposed in court, the guy killed himself rather than break the promise they'd made to believe in each other no matter what. A few months later, she poisoned one of the attorneys involved in that case (putting him into a years-long coma instead of killing him) and got away with it by planting the evidence on a guy she just met by convincing him she'd fallen in love with him at first sight. She then guilted Iris into pretending to be her while dating the guy for the next several months, which culminated in her attempting to murder him, only to then try to frame him for the murder of one of her exes instead (which she also committed). She didn't get away with this one because superior girlboss (her cousin Mia) exposed her plot and Dahlia was executed for it a few years later, but she continued to GGG from beyond the grave. While she was still alive, Dahlia and her also-incarcerated but not on death row mother planned to murder the head of their clan (Maya, the younger sister of Mia) so that Dahlia's younger half sister (Pearl) could take Maya's place as head of their clan; Dahlia was also doing this because in the interim, Mia had been murdered by someone else, and Dahlia decided the best way to get revenge on her after her death was to kill the person she loved most. The mother and daughter schemed to write to Pearl (who was only about 9 at the time) and convinced her to channel Dahlia after her execution without telling her why (their family has the ability to channel the spirits of the dead, and they cannot remember what their bodies do during the time they're possessed) so that Dahlia could use her little sister's body to kill the head of the family, who Pearl loved very much. They also guilted Iris into working with them on this. The attempt failed because she girlbossed too close to the sun (a combination of her still-living ex, Maya, the channeled Mia, and the now-awake guy she'd poisoned) but she still GGG-ed all her life and even into her death (she also managed to get Mia & Maya's mom killed in the process and the coma guy (who Mia was in love with) convicted for it, but Maya lived so ultimately a failure). Throughout all this, she gives off an air of innocence and kindness and naivete, wearing white, high femme clothes, convincing the men inside and outside of the legal courts that she couldn't possibly do anything because she's just a sweet little girl. I fucking hate her <3 the vibes are both rancid and terrifying"

Hello! Can I request platonic yandere Roxana Agriche and platonic yandere Jeremy with oldest agriche fem reader where reader is quite lazy but smart.
And one more thing, she is not crazy like their family.
i see! so basically a krs!cale henituse but doesn't get unlucky(well, unless having two people be yandere over you is unlucky,,)?
Tumblr media
Unlike your other half-siblings having to try and fight for the rights of being the next head of the black agriche, you were simply born into the number one candidate of being the future head of your family
it's not like a switch turned on for lant at a random time and decided to make you one, you were just extraordinarily smart and only helped out and made yourself a name whenever you wanted to
of course, you didn't really mind! you could just relax in luxury and do your paperwork early in the morning, finishing it before it became afternoon
the only "slight"(read: big) issue with being the heir of a dangerous and insane family, having people almost always try to kill you or manipulate your lazyass
well, you weren't the heiress to the black agriche family without a reason.
you easily found moles trying to harm or stop you from succeeding your plans, they were eaten by a tamed beast of yours in front of other maids and butlers working for you, unlike your siblings who would torture them in front of their staff before killing them
of course, some moles do worser things than others, so you'd gift one of your stepmother's, maria, them, knowing well enough she'd turn them into "dolls"
you weren't as crazy as your family, heavens no! instead, you'd teach your younger half-siblings the ropes, being hopeful that they'd at the very least live
your efforts were almost always fruitless, until roxana and jeremy (metaphorically)slammed the door to your heart open and dragged you out
ROXANA, your sweet and adorable two-faced sister, who just simply worships your actions and the ground you walk on!
she acts like an absolute angel and clingy younger sister who just wants your attention on her <3
she's simply just immensly proud of everything her smart older sister does!
roxana doesn't mind you being lazy, you deserve to rest in luxury because of your kindness/achievements! of course with you resting with her and jeremy, but you wouldn't mind that, right? :)
ah, but when she's alone with people that dislike/tried to harm you, she'd torment the insolent vermins before handing them over to jeremy 💕
right, your puppy-like obsessed younger brother, JEREMY
anyone that even tries to harm or embarass you will be faced with two monster siblings, killing for the sake of their eldest sister's happiness <3
jeremy is simply putty and puppy like in the presence of you and roxana!
he was overjoyed when roxana decided to share their beloved sister! 💕
anyone who makes fun or negatively comments about your laziness will be swiftly killed after being tortured by roxie, what a kind younger brother!
literally forbids everyone(except for rox, of course) from entering your room when you told him you were going to laze around/take a nap the entire afternoon
roxana and jeremy would never harm you! ..well, at least physically.
the only thing they'd try to do is manipulate or gaslight you! only if you show resistance to their affection, though!
they'd be overjoyed and giddy if you reciprocate their affection!
everyone else in the agriche dukedom didn't matter(except for sierra my beloved❤️❤️), they could all get burned alive for all they cared!
YOU, are the most important thing to them, a beacon of hope, a support pillar, but most importantly, a caring older sister.

Yishun Revengers Episode 3 "Triple murder double burger single mother case"
"Snickers! *removes the n* Sickers! *removes the s and puts back the n* Sikers! *removes the s* ni-"
-random man on the internet
"Uh....actually, good sirs and mams...or furries and pillars...can you help me with one more thing?" Stefen Hua like 有点不好意思地说.
"What lah," Fentanyl asked, as he moved the queen to a position where it would confirm plus chop get eaten one.
"Actually ah...there have been cases of...um...something weird happening in Sengkang Public Library...I'm just gonna pretend it's Yishun and gaslight the viewers...ehehe..." Stefen Hua laugh it off like very sus liddat.
"Why don't you just film at the actual cursed places of Yishun instead of gaslighting the viewers?" Sunda questioned and then ate Fentanyl's queen with his rook.
"I...scared mah, whatever happens in Sengkang is definitely less scary than Yishun what..." Stefen answered truthfully.
"Mm. Whatever. We'll go with you later." Fentanyl mumbled before checkmating Sunda in a trap he didn't realise when he ate his queen.
"Damnit! Ok fine let's go now, Stefen!" Sunda like sore loser liddat.
(Also August, Mendax and Laju who bet all their life savings on him 💀)
"AH AH AH WAIT WAIT WAIT WAIT FOR ME I WANNA GO TOO!" That 9/11 HIHS Sec 1 boy just popped out of nowhere and subtly not-so-subtly demanded that they bring him as well. Kiefer, was it?
"Yeah yeah yeah whatever, you've got our protection anyway, nothing bad will happen one lah!" Mendax took one look at him and spoke dismissively.
"Go back first, ok?" Stefen like UWU told the assistant to go back, cos the boys (and girls) are about to get into serious business now, ain't no space for a random camera assistant guy here!
---------------
"Bruh...Sir, for the gazillionth time for the love of SPF, NO, THE LIBRARY IS UNDER LOCKDOWN, I DUNNO WHY, YOU CAN'T JUST GO IN, STOP ASKING WHY, STOP ASKING TO GO IN!" Wa lao eh, the library staff like so tok cok liddat leh, say no means no. We got business to get done here, buddy!
"What a pity...that was supposed to be my last...friendly...attempt to get in before you so rudely turned me down...then, don't blame me," Fentanyl talked like a badass powerful guy-in-charge.
Then before anyone could say anything, his eyes flashed bright red, and then he stepped forward and covered the staff's forehead and eyes and his eyes flashed bright red again, then suddenly all the people in the vicinity got on their knees and kneeled down, like they were in a trance.
"Um..." Codeine questioned, despite not literally being Fentanyl's disciple.
"Walao, you know I have hypnotising powers one lah, don't act like you dunno anything leh!" Fentanyl then affirmingly replied.
"Siao ah, the Pillar or Psychological Defence, hypnotising people...sure, sure, we can leave our country to these people to defend..." Kiefer side-remarked.
And so, with the security disabled, in our heroes went...
and in they would soon find something much worse than your average Yishun cat.
In they found...the entire library turned upside down (or upside-down depending on where you live but honestly who cares about that).
Actual, turned completely upside down. Books literally flying all around and scattered messily across the entire library, the shelves are arranged disorderly and left over the place (in fact, the only reason why they aren't flying around is probably because they're too heavy for that), the walls are scribbled with numbers and drawings like it's a kid's artwork, the CD players are all carelessly placed...the list goes on and on...
And in the heart of the library-a man sitting comfortably on a table, engrossed in writing data onto multiple messy papers on his desk. From afar, it seems hard to tell the man's bodily details, but a few things are clear-he's wearing a white mask covering his entire face, which is rather lacking in details save for the two holes for his eyes, a black top magician's hat, and a black trenchcoat (probably the reason why the air con is set so low here) with black gloves.
All that was really hot and entrancing, but what really caught the attention of our friendly neighbourhood heroes was the man in the animal cage-knocked unconscious, with multiple IV drips attached to his body.
The masked man then clicked his pen away and took out a syringe, and stabbed it in the blood vessel of the man-to reveal his blood being absorbed in the syringe. It was white.

weird things about the sarlacc and boba fett’s time therein, according to the expanded universe
i was talking about this in a mandalorian groupchat and felt it deserved to be shared on tumblr, so without further ado, here’s a bunch of fucked up shit that happens in the sarlacc according to star wars legends:
first weird thing about the sarlacc in the great pit of carkoon: it's.... questionably sentient? basically, sarlaccs absorb bits and pieces of their victims until they achieve a kind of weird melded consciousness. and, perhaps due to the fact that it had absorbed jedi in the past, the carkoon sarlacc was like, prolific in this regard,  to the point where it had a fairly well developed personality and identity that it basically ripped from its first victim, a young boy named susejo.
as "susejo," the sarlacc would not only physically digest its victims alive, but psychologically torture them. this was discovered by an anthropologist who studied the video captured by boba's helmet while he was in the sarlacc, which showed him reacting to stimulus that wasn't there. it caused said anthropologist to speculate that the sarlacc not only fed on its victims physical bodies but also their fear and pain.
in fact, in "a barve like that," a story written by moran under a pseudonym, we get entire conversations between boba and "susejo," in which this man gets LITERALLY GASLIGHTED BY THE FUCKING SARLACC
susejo/the sarlacc basically tries to convince boba that none of this is really happening and that it's all in his head.
it is entirely unsuccessful in this regard
that said, it also tortures boba by making him live through the dying memories of its other victims, so. that's fun.
after pilfering through his mind for awhile, susejo/the sarlacc tells boba: “It’s been a long time since I had one like you, all bright and sharp around the edges. You are nearly a work of art, Fett; there is a clarity to you that is quite wonderful. A purity to your intent.”
(i read this description of boba fett more than a decade ago and it has lived rent-free in my head ever since.)
(also the sarlacc does this while hanging boba from a wall in a mockery of what he had done with han in jabba’s palace, which isn’t super relevant but is just cool thematically)
but not to worry! boba eventually escapes in very spectacular fashion
y’see, boba’s jetpack has an emergency panel that can activate the jetpack when switched. problem is, he can’t reach it with his hands bc the sarlacc has his arms pinned to the wall.
but one day, boba reaches his breaking point. susejo/the sarlacc is gearing up for another round of psychologically torturing its victims via memory share and boba just fucking snaps.
"You're an ingrate, you pathetic excuse for a sentient being. You got taken down here as a child and everything that you know and everything that you are you owe to the people you let get eaten" - - and the Sarlacc's tentacles spasmed around Fett, digging into him, hauling him back into the wall behind him--"and your feelings are hurt because I've told you so? You could have helped that Jedi, she'd have come back for you. Instead you spent the next four thousand years playing at philosophy, abusing the people who taught you to be what you are, never even dreaming that you had options, and why?" he screamed at Susejo, building up to it, blasting him with the rage and hatred he had spent a lifetime growing, the Sarlacc's straining tentacles shaking against his body. "Because you're stupid, a miserable mean wretch of an excuse for a sentient being without the imagination or the courage--" The tentacles slashed around him, a sound like a thousand whips cracking, drowning out Fett's voice.
you may have noticed that, throughout the course of this excerpt, the sarlacc presses boba progressively harder against the wall–which just so happens to provide the pressure necessary to switch that emergency panel i mentioned earlier.
trapped between boba and the wall of the sarlacc, the jetpack explodes, badly wounding the sarlacc and throwing boba to the ground, arms free.
“Standing in the fire, burning alive, Boba Fett fired a concussion grenade into the ceiling thirty centimeters above his head, and threw himself down to the surface of the tunnel, into the flaming mixture of acid and fuel-The explosion tore apart the world. The concussion slammed Fett down into the flames, and his left arm, trapped beneath him at the wrong angle, snapped as he was smashed down atop it. A pain so great it was like a white light surrounded Boba Fett, and he knew that he was dying, that he had failed, like all the others before him, that he had traded a slow death by acid for a fast death by fire–Sand rained down upon him. A long time later, Boba Fett became aware that he was still alive.”
upon regaining consciousness, boba throws even more grenades, blasting a hole in the sarlacc until he’s able to claw his way out.
basically, it’s a good thing that boba fett does not regularly open up about all the rage and hatred inside of him on either a verbal or psychic level bc it’s apparently enough to overpower a fucking sarlacc.
even decades after escaping, boba remains haunted by not just his own memories of the sarlacc, but the memories of its other victims and their lives, forever mingled inextricably with his own. bc shitty traumatic memories are definitely something boba fett needed more of.

A Comparison of OUAT Redemption Stories
So I was DMing with someone about a different show entirely, and I brought up OUAT because I loved/hated this show so much and it’s largely based on redemption stories. I was going to briefly explain why I find Hook’s arc so compelling (though not without its flaws, of course) and Regina’s so lacking, but it turns out that I still cannot write briefly about this subject. So I’m posting this here because this is what my blog was originally about, and I find I still feel very much the same way even after a few years have passed. I want to preface this by saying I haven’t rewatched the show since it went off the air, and I certainly could’ve forgotten some things. And I’m obviously biased in that I loathe the character of Regina so much, although here I’m trying to explain exactly why I can’t stand her.
Hook and Regina were both motivated by revenge for the deaths of their first loves. Rumple murdered his ex-wife and Hook’s current lover/partner/co-captain, Milah, so Hook set out to kill Rumple himself, the Dark One, who is one of (if not the) most powerful beings in their world. Hook caused a lot of harm to innocent people as collateral damage, but eventually he gave up on the idea of revenge and basically peacefully coexisted with the guy who had murdered his first love and chopped off his hand. Regina’s mother was the one to kill her first love, but did she go after her? No, she went after the ten-year-old child (Snow) whom her mother had manipulated into telling about her first love (by playing on Snow’s feelings for her dead mother, whom Regina’s mother had murdered). Regina was going after an innocent person from the beginning because she was afraid of her mother.
Then there’s the scale of the harm done. Regina: literally slaughtered at least two whole villages, sent countless children to be literally eaten by a cannibal, cursed an entire population by permanently altering their minds, has murdered so many people and taken so many hearts she lost track of whose was whose, illegally adopted a child whom she knowingly raised in a town where no one else grew or aged and then gaslit him when he caught on, murdered her father in order to cast the curse. Hook: was a pirate so he has killed people (we learn that his rings come from murder victims, whose names and circumstances he remembers) killed his own father (who had sold him into child slavery) thereby orphaning his little brother, killed David’s father, backhanded Belle across the face once, shot her so she’d cross the town line and lose her memories, sort of turned Baelfire over to Peter Pan (but only after Bae refused to let Hook hide him so I never got why he felt guilty over that honestly). No indiscriminate mass murder that we know of.
And of course there’s the remorse or utter lack thereof. Regina is constantly defending her actions. I’ll use her own words to illustrate. She at one point says to Snow: “To be fair, I was threatening you. Everyone else just became collateral damage.” And then later we get this infuriating exchange:
Regina: Need I remind you I dedicated years to knocking you down? But nothing could stop you.
Snow: You took my kingdom, cast your curse, I lost my daughter for 28 years.
Regina: And then you found her.
Clearly no remorse or recognition for the fact that she stole Emma’s entire childhood from her and her parents. And the classic, said as she was escaping a tree that attacks people’s regret: “I did cast a curse that devastated an entire population. I have tortured and murdered. I’ve done some terrible things. I should be overflowing with regret, but I’m not.”
I feel that I should add that she ends that last statement with “because it got me my son”. And that sounds lovely, but that means that she doesn’t regret the harm she’s done since getting him (continuing to enslave and sexually abuse her victims, murdering Graham, attempting to murder the entire town so Henry would have nobody else to love) or even more notably, the harm she’s done to Henry (raising him in a psychologically unhealthy environment, cursing him in an attempt to curse his mother, gaslighting him, attempting to murder his entire family, altering his memories, etc.) Regina says time and again that she “gave up on revenge” against Snow, but as far as I can tell, she only decided she was satisfied because she’d succeeded in irreparably harming Snow. She took away her chance to raise her daughter, who ended up being raised in an abusive foster system and felt obligated to give up her own child.
And then I compare that to Hook’s apologizing and making things right with people he’s hurt, like Ursula, his younger brother Liam, and David. And then he and Belle become close friends and eventually they have this conversation:
Belle: I’m sorry, I can’t stay here. If Rumple finds you harboring me...
Hook: His wrath will be an added bonus.
Belle: I don’t understand. Why would you risk your life for me?
Hook: Long ago, I... I tried to kill you in the queen’s castle once. I failed. But along the way, I did something I can live with no longer. I laid a hand on you. And there’s the matter of my shooting you at the town line.
Belle: Yeah, well. You’ve changed since all that.
Hook: Maybe. I have a long road to travel before I can be someone I can be proud of. Despite the forgiveness of others, I must forgive myself, and I’m not there yet.
So yeah, that’s a summary of why I find Hook’s redemption arc to be (somewhat) believable and satisfying and Regina’s to be... basically nonexistent. The show tells us she’s a hero and a good person now, but she never apologizes or shows remorse. She makes it abundantly clear that she’s doing good only in the hopes of getting happiness for herself, which she absolutely feels entitled to even though she’s taken it from so many others (the amount of times she complained about not getting what she wants despite occasionally doing the right thing is incredible). She still even has a bunch of hearts whose owners she apparently forgot! There’s no indication that guilt weighs on her at all, or that she even feels any guilt. I can’t buy a “redemption” from someone who never shows remorse or accepts responsibility.
Note: these quotations weren’t taken from memory, nor did I go back and watch the episodes. They came from the OUAT transcripts found here.

Onwards to the episode in which we get to see Flint and Silver each having a very bad day (as well as two literal dicks that nobody had asked to see).
Black Sails VII (s1 ep07)
- We open on Pastor Lambrick's sweaty face as he intensely rehearses the Easter sermon and he’s obviously eaten up by what he did with Miranda. His sermon, unsurprisingly, focuses on sin, keeping sin hidden, and the hell that awaits the sinner. Which leads us nicely onto Flint, who’s distracted (by his own sin? by thoughts of Miranda? both?) during a meeting with Eleanor. Eleanor is pissed that Miranda let Richard Guthrie send a message to the Andromache and then waltz into town to close up his business; Flint tries to take the heat off Miranda, once again protecting her (at this point, he may not know the contents of the letter).
- During this meeting, Flint is startled when Silver first speaks up to say that the mob in the street was bad - clearly Silver is a sort of intruder in this meeting. But Eleanor, after Silver reminds her by unsubtly clearing his throat, tells Flint that he’s not to harm Silver because he was instrumental in setting up the Consortium. Silver looks so pleased with himself in these scenes, and Flint quite defeated when he tells Silver to follow him back to their camp. I love it.
- To parallel Flint/Miranda’s Sulky Sex scene from ep4, we have Anne/Rackham’s frustrating/disconnected sex scene. It shows us a few things about them mainly that Anne wants to keep a lot of control over what happens, hence Rackham being tied up (though of course this might also be his kink), her wearing a shirt that covers up most of her body, and the reverse cowgirl position that means that she’s both in control of what happens and completely avoids eye contact. The position reminds us of the Flint/Miranda scene, where Miranda was also on top, but their scene involved more eye contact (yes glaring counts, he’s still intensely focused on Miranda), gentle touching (on Miranda’s side) and her being naked and open to him. Another parallel is that both Flint and Rackham aren’t in the right frame of mind for sex, Flint being angry and Rackham lost in a sea of worries (and probably also somewhat angry/disappointed at Anne for forcing him into the plot to kill their crewmates). The difference between Flint and Rackham is that while Flint doesn’t seem to have any trouble performing, Rackham is miles away and doesn’t even notice that he’s lost his erection - again. Anne is frustrated by this, and apparently knows him well enough that she offers to put something up his arse, but he’s clearly not in the mood, and she leaves in a huff, abandoning him all tied up as a sort of revenge for his performance problems. Whatever the problem is between them isn’t put into words (because Anne can’t yet, for starters), unlike the one between Flint and Miranda. The intimacy between Rackham and Anne, so often described as close partners, seems much more distant to me than the one shown between Flint and Miranda. I’m not sure whether it’s because of anyone’s sexual orientation, or just the fact that they’re fucking but they’ve never discussed the big important things, such as Anne’s identity/feelings/etc.
- In this episode, Dufresne gains a lot of power: with a freshly (and badly) shaved head and a new tattoo, he’s been promoted to Quartermaster on the Walrus in Billy’s place. And very quickly he has a problem to deal with: Randall revealing that Silver stole the page. Gates had actually already told this to Dufresne, as is revealed at the end of the episode, which might explain why Dufresne is relatively calm during the whole conversation, while DeGroot wants Silver and Flint hanged and Howell is surprisingly ruthless: he brings up the idea that it may be better to kill off Randall in order to get to the treasure, if they can’t make sure he’ll keep quiet about Silver being the thief. Dufresne is actually quite kind towards Silver in the scene where he puts Silver’s memory to the test - a test that could result in his death if he fails it and that Silver constantly grumbles against (I love his grumbling!). Basically, at this point Dufresne remains quite a sympathetic character, which will change a lot as the show goes on, especially after Jannes Eiselen had to leave the show (such a sad story, RIP Jannes).
- In the meantime, the Flint and Gates relationship is crumbling. It's sad to see, especially since they're shown sharing chuckles as they talk about Dufresne's appointment in the beginning of the episode. But then Gates brings up the subject of Miranda and demands explanations about the letter Billy found. We're not shown exactly what Flint answers, but it's clear that he's actually trying his best to give him an explanation without incriminating Miranda too badly. The sad thing is that Flint is actually telling the truth: he actually wasn't involved in any betrayal of his crew and and can only guess at Miranda's motivations. But the fact that he's lied time and again in previous situations, including on the Maria Aleyne where he claimed Lord Alfred drew a weapon on him (and Gates secretly verified that this was a lie), and used men as pawns to advance his and Miranda's plans, is now catching up to him. Flint seems truly hurt when Gates accuses him of using the men for his own purposes, and turns spiteful, telling Gates that he should have been "a better father" to Billy and helped him "understand the world he was living in" (suggesting that such a forthright character as Billy can't really survive in a world of pirates who are all ready to stab each other in the back). After that slap in the face, Gates says he's exhausted from Flint and threatens to take it to the crew. Somehow, this pushes Flint to bare all: he tells Gates about his plan to keep a part of the treasure and use it to build up Nassau, depicting himself as a sort of saviour, doing it for the men's good: they'd rather be rich men in a safe place than dead thieves hanging from a noose. Gates sees this as delusions of grandeur, and tells him that while he'll see the Urca plot through, after that they're done. I actually think he sees Flint’s point, since he doesn’t just throw him to the crew, but won’t admit that out loud. The whole of this scene hurts bad, because you can tell that Flint is desperate and sad to be losing his closest ally and friend, and that Gates is hurting from the loss of Billy and exhausted from the toxic relationship he has with Flint, where he's played enabler to his manipulations for years.
- While Flint and Gates’ alliance is breaking, Silver has to forge one with Randall or die. Randall finds out in the beginning of the episode that he’s been voted out of the crew. This is apparently due to DeGroot’s fears that Randall could be a fire hazard, which the crew took disproportionately to heart. Randall is furious with Silver, who smugly tells him that in these situations, a setback often comes with a new or unexpected opportunity. He’s right, but at this point he doesn’t know that he is the opportunity Randall’s going to latch on. Randall reveals that Silver is a thief, and Silver denies it, saying that Randall is both a halfwit and was in a haze of opium when he heard what he thought he heard; he even tries to convince Randall that he was mistaken (this, my friends, is gaslighting). However, by revealing that Silver was the thief, Randall sets a chain of events into motion which could either end with his death (if Howell has his way, since Randall is an inconvenient witness) or Silver’s (if DeGroot tips the balance, not trusting Silver to remember the coordinates and not wanting to sacrifice Randall for nothing). Silver figures out that these are the outcomes, and tries to talk sense into Randall by making a deal with him: he’ll care for Randall and make sure he can stay on the ship. But it’s only when Silver finally admits that he is the thief and that Randall was right, that Randall accepts the deal. Later, Silver realises that Randall might have orchestrated the whole thing: he’s now got Silver to serve him, doesn’t have to take any risks on the ship, and gets to remain with the crew. Silver wonders if Randall is a genius rather than a halfwit (a word thrown about a lot to describe him). And it seems quite obvious, considering what happened, that Randall still has strong survival skills (an amputee with impaired cognitive skills doesn’t stand a chance of survival outside a crew and he must be aware of it), that he still has a good memory and an ability to pick out useful information and that he’s aware enough of what’s going on to be upset by the crew’s rejection and Silver’s attempt to gaslight him. I think it’s important to recognise that Randall is more than a comic relief or a grotesque character: he’s a disabled man who's lost parts of his cognitive ability and is struggling to survive.
- This episode focuses on Vane facing his past. He seeks out the island where he grew up and its master, Albinus. I’d forgotten or never really registered that Albinus was a pirate and that the men who work for him were mostly his crew - and likely slaves (or children, hence Vane?) that he managed to capture/press into service. He’s retired from pirating and set up a system where his men cut down trees for timber all day, without wages. It’s not clear exactly how he holds so much power over these men, although it seems that everyone is terrified of him. He’s extremely strong physically, seems shrewd, speaks rather well, and his tattoos suggest that maybe he’s involved in some kind of ritual (truly religious or just for show?) which would make him all the more scary to superstitious people. Vane is clearly still frightened: he barely makes eye contact and practically stutters when he first tries to make the deal with Albinus, which is that he’ll take some of Albinus’ men as crew and send Albinus part of their earnings as tribute. It says a lot about Albinus that Vane, after years of having run away, is still so scares that he’s willing to pay him a tribute. But he changes his mind as he stares at a boy bearing the same brand as he does: he tries to persuade the men that Nassau is a pace of pleasures rather than hard labour, and confronts Albinus. The fight is brutal and ends with Vane buried naked, just after Albinus tells him that he’s proud of him. But of course Vane wouldn’t be Vane if he didn’t rise from the dead at the last minute and kill Albinus, goaded on by his inner Eleanor voice.
- In the meantime, Mr Scott returns to Eleanor, apologising for what he did, telling her he betrayed her out of love. However he also reminds her of his slave status: technically, he belongs to her. The argument upsets her, and he quite cleverly uses this moment to ask her to free the slaves who were on the Andromache. And it works: by the end of the episode, she’s made arrangements for the men to work on ships and has bought the women’s freedom and found them jobs in her tavern. But Mr Scott has still decided to leave Eleanor to join Hornigold’s crew, to refrain from meddling with Eleanor’s affairs, since he disagrees with her so strongly re: the Urca. Hornigold approached him earlier in the episode, and the introduction to that scene is quite interesting: Hornigold says to Mr Scott “I’ll need to know your secret” and Mr Scott looks startled and frightened. It seems that he’s startled because he’d been giving food to the slaves, but in light of S3, it could be a much greater secret that’s being referred to. Mr Scott is relieved when he realises that Hornigold is simply talking about tolerating Eleanor, who he clearly can’t stand.
- Flint’s bad day continues, of course, with the big confrontation he has with Miranda. He’s furious about the letter (of which he now knows the contents thanks to Gates), telling her that it could have got him killed, or destroyed the plans they’d made and asking her whether she was trying to embarrass him. This sounds so weirdly petty, and yet it also sounds exactly like the kind of argument that would come up in a bickering couple. Miranda answers that she was trying to help him out of that life, because she wants to move on. This is where Miranda utters the famous “there is no life here, there is no joy here, there is no love here”. I noticed that, covered by Flint yelling at her, and distorted because her voice has gone very shrill, Miranda says another line, which sounds like “you used to love, then”. If that really is what she says, it’s extra-extra-extra heartbreaking to hear (if someone wants to check it for me, it’s around 35:40). It’s obvious that Flint and Miranda’s views on life are very different, and I can’t help but think back to the fact that, as a carpenter’s son from the country, Flint has had to struggle all his life to become who he is. So when he says that you can’t get a life without having a war, and Miranda tells him he’s wrong, she’s speaking entirely from the point of view of her privilege. She’s never needed to fight as hard as he has to be happy, because she got extremely lucky in marrying Thomas. And when she says that Thomas would agree with her, I’m certain she’s right. But life has never been like that for Flint, and there’s no way he’ll ever entirely agree with their point of view. Rewatching this scene is tough, btw, because they both have great points, they’re both hurting so much, and there’s so much to take in between the body language, the facial expressions, the tones of voice and the actual words that it’s a whole whirlwind. And it feels very, very real.
- It’s absolutely hilarious to see Rackham get robbed by the whores taking advantage of his lack of knowledge (and research). He should absolutely have done a better job and has no clue how to run a brothel. He’s lucky Max takes things in hand after having heard from Idelle that the girls were taking advantage.
- Then we have the beautiful Drunk Flint scene. Eleanor notices him feeling very sorry for himself after Gates has pretty much broken up with him and he’s still reeling from fighting with by Miranda. I think Flint feels very misunderstood here. He thought that he was doing something good, to save Nassau and avenge Thomas, and doesn’t understand why they can’t see it, why they only see the terrible methods he uses to reach his goals. So he’s full of doubt, clearly wondering if he’s the villain of the story, and puts the question to Eleanor: is their plan worth it? Eleanor is the only person who still believes in him, which leads us to the only scene that I would ever call straight-baiting. Flint hovers near Eleanor, breathing heavily, and a variety of emotions play over her face during this moment of tension, as she seems to think this is leading to a kiss. It does, he gives her a chaste little forehead kiss and leaves. All the elements are in place to make your average viewer start shipping these two. I actually find it hilarious that the ship barely exists in the fandom (though I wasn’t there in the beginning of the fandom and I guess the viewership changed a lot between S1 and S4).
- The scene with Flint and Gates glaring at each other from their respective ships and Parson’s Farewell playing in the background... epic! We know this is the beginning of a big struggle between them, especially since we find out that Gates has pretty much decided that he’ll hand Flint over to the crew once they get the money. But nnnnggh that scene! The ships leaving on their hunt! Awesome and heartbreaking!

this is more of fig psychoanalyzing eef
it’s a bad thing at this point to be left with a keyboard and a raging fixation
tw: talk about ephraim’s past abuse and trauma, spoilers and his eventual last scenes
-anyway ephraim’s like running theme is a fear of being left vulnerable because one of the last time’s he was, his dad literally displaced his shoulder,  -this runs through the book as the constant replacement of vulnerability to anger, whether it’s caused by confusion, fear, ect, he’s always going to be the first one to argue about something.  -not to mention the amount of trauma this kid already has?? like his dad, and he literally saw a dude half alive after an accident. -ephraim does not process things like the rest of the kids do, because anger’s always been his first reaction. if he can make the other person fear him there’s less of a chance he’ll get hurt.  -this runs into his “stunts” and haphazard dangerous things he does to cope with the amount of anger he has yet to process, i’m sorry but does the “i do stuff that could easily get me hurt or killed to suppress other emotions” sound familiar to anyone who struggles with mental health issues?  -HE HAS LIVED HIS WHOLE LIFE BEING CONSTANTLY COMPARED TO HIS ABUSIVE FATHER. he looks like a mini version of him, his tempers like his, + the impulsivity. not to mention his mother being terrified of him turning out like him. leading him to have the same fear, and try to further suppress his emotions to not have them come out like they do. he didn’t get a chance to process the shît that happened to him, nor his own emotions living as someone predisposed to traumatic events, ptsd, and MAJOR stressors. most of his life he hasn’t been able to readily communicate this stuff with his mother because he’s too scared of reminding her of his father.  -Not to mention when he was talking about that tiger, he literally asks if feeling that way about it was alright,  -He never got the chance to process, nor work through his emotions and had a mother who more so feared the display of those emotions more than what could be making him feel those ways
-so you pick up a kid, with unprocessed emotions and trauma, and put him on an island, where one of the only ADULT men he looks up to at this point gets a deadly unknown illness, and there’s a threat he’ll get it to?? he’s literally a bomb waiting to go off.  yk how people reacted when covid first came?? now picture it 10x, on an island, and as a kid with no authority members but the one you just watched make your friend perform makeshift surgery on, before locking him in a closet and having him DIE.  -PLUS watching tim, the only decent male role model start to unravel into panic and doing shit that outright put the boys in danger, which probably outright reminded him of his father
-don’t even get me started on shelley, this man was manipulating half the group by the time tim was relatively near the closet. -he had genuine regret about his fight with kent + max, i mean max was one of the only people he had put his trust into being vulnerable around. but within seconds shelley was right next to him, pulling the strings and blatantly reminded him of his dad before he planted the seed of eef being sick into his head.  -by the time eef was by himself? and by the time shelley had slipped him the radio? eef was basically already long gone.  -eef’s fear of being vunerable and not regaining the control hit him again, shelley stood being the only one listening to him about his “symptoms” which at that point were part of his brain falling prey to gaslighting (thank you so much shelley you ass) -he took it into his own hands to fix, because he was so scared of not knowing what was gonna happen to him that he needed to prove to himself that he was gonna be okay.  -the brain does this funny thing when you’re in traumatic situations, have not eaten or consumed water in awhile, not to mention being gaslighted by someone who was supposed to survive with you. he hallucinated.   -when the boys find him again he’s held onto this theory that shelley’s right so hard that regardless of them knowing he’s probably not infected, they kinda have to go with it  -he than for the first time trusts someone with his life, sadly this is shelley and it’s because he’s so convinced the hallucinations are true that shelley seems to be the first one on the trip that has tried to “help him” and continued to “support him” throughout that event.  his last thoughts are ridden with such stubborn belief that shelley wouldn’t lead him down the wrong path (which, truthfully is ridden with being in shock from his wounds, shock from the past traumatic events and the amount of manipulation that he’s been through, not to mention the lack of food)  and there and then there he lights himself on fire, in a risky stunt, seeing no other way to drive the parasite out of him.  let me take a minute to mourn him again bc this whole scene had me sobbing during my first read through.
ephraim manages to trust one person with helping him, in a state of fear, panic, shock and overall terror from the past events and he’s repaid by being manipulated to the point of dying.  UGH. i will never fully get over how fucking tragic his character is to me. i trauma bonded so hard to him bro.

Ok so since I couldn’t finish watching Van Helsing because Hulu is annoying like that, I watched Dracula (1931). I didn’t take time stamps so if you read through my notes there’s no context, but here you go anyway. Ignore the What We Do In the Shadows jokes
Dracula (1931)
I’m going to be so nitpicky about this movie even though I know it’s based on the play which I haven’t seen/read, not necessarily the book
Swan lake in the opening?
Don’t ask how I know my mom tried to make me a music nerd
No Quincey on the cast list? :(
Walpurgis night oh no
Heh look at this idiot going to borgo pass… I don’t know what that is
I love how in all adaptations, Jonathan is consistently an idiot
Wow they really are just straight up telling him what’s going on instead of being vague and praying and crying
Jonathan my beloved
Oh sweetie you should be very afraid.
At least someone gave him a crucifix
Dracula, clean your house better
Dude you have so much space that you could use for storage
PRETTY. PRETTY VAMPIRE LADY
BELA LUGOSI!!!!!
I want that coat
Wow, I guess 1930s audiences liked everything to be explained to them
Dracula taking Jonathan’s bags is gonna make me think of WWDITS, shit
He’s just steering the carriage as a bat agshiusadi Dracula I love you
DUDE CLEAN UP
YOU HAVE GUESTS
I love those sfx bats that are just puppets on a string with all my heart
Oh please let this be as gay as the book
I still don’t understand the whole “children of the night” thing and I’ve been doing research for years I gotta get on that
Sfx spider my beloved
Wait, this is Renfield?!? Not Jonathan?!?
Not a lot of adaptations give us pre-insane Renfield
I guess I’m free to make Nandor/Guillermo jokes about familiars
WHat the fuck is that walk
“I never drink… wine”
OH SHIT I’M GAY
SFX BAT IS BACK BAY BEE
Did he just faint from the bat? Bruh
“This man belongs to me” hand motion huh
Tickles?
That felt gay
YES CRAZY RENFIELD MY BELOVED
That whole “master” thing is not straight
“You will keep your promise?” I was 100% expecting him to ask to be turned like Guillermo
He just fucking left him fuiuadgui
Renfield is actually the best
Oh please don’t hurt the nice flower girl
Oh he did
Vampire hypnosis?
Dracula, what is it with you and old broken houses please just fix things
I love how they make fun of him
Lucy if you do the very not good thing and start crushing on Dracula at least try to fix his house up a big
I love that stupid bat puppet
They haven’t actually shown Dracula feeding yet. Well, they have, they’ve shown him hunting people and pinning them down and stuff, but no actually bites. I wonder if it’s because it would be too hard to do with special effects or if it’s “scandalous”
Oh thank god they skipped over the blood transfusion shenanigans
Martin is delightful
“Who wants to eat flies” “you do ya loony” ahahhduiahid
Wow they figured the vampire thing out fast
“Two little wounds, white with red centers”
Oh please let Van Helsing be absolutely unhinged
I forgot to write something down about the vampires transforming into bats and wolves
“You know too much to live” ???
Wolfsbane repels vampires apparently
Oh no Mina’s gonna get eaten! Except the only reason I know her name is because I read the book she’s literally so boring
WHAT IS THAT FACE, BELA EXPLAIN
Jonathan shut the fuck up
“It seemed as though all the life had been drained out of me”
Dracula has no reflection
He just fucking slapped the cigarette case adhkauh
“I dislike mirrors”
“For one who has not lived even a single lifetime you are a wise man” I forgot that everyone is especially a little baby
“The strength of the vampire is that people will not believe in him” DAMN THAT IS ESSAY WORTHY
Van Helsing my beloved, saying the most crazy shit and expecting people to accept it
“Yes I heard something: Enough” I fucking cackled that is so fucking funny
MINA FUCKING DIED?
RENFIELD WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING
Oh nevermind she’s alive
LUCY!!!! YES!!!
Gaslight gatekeep girlboss
Do Mina and Lucy get to kiss in this version
“You musn’t kiss me ever again” oh no, apparently being preyed on by a vampire makes you a hArLoT
Renfield my beloved
Dracula can control rats?
Dracula I can’t believe you told Van Helsing to go back to his own country
Ok so feeding someone vampire blood turns them
Ok so apparently strong willed people can resist hypnosis
Dracula’s reaction to crucifixes is hilarious
Oh no she’s a hArLoT
I like her dress
Is she gonna eat him? It would be very gaslight gatekeep girlboss of her to eat him
She’s just casually talking to the bat and then when Jonathan calls her out she’s like “no I didn’t”
MARTIN IS QUINCEY IN THIS VERSION??? HELL YES!!!!!
Martin I love you
Ma’am don’t let him in
Ma’am
NO THAT’S WORSE PUT BACK THE PLANT
MA’AM STOP
The camera always cuts off the moment before Dracula bites someone
That’s a really cool dress
Mina’s joining the polycule ayyyyyeeeee
Renfield you betrayed him like 8 times
Ouch
Oh no Mina’s a vampire
Ok nevermind she isn’t
They didn’t actually show the staking
Anyway I rate this movie like, 7/10. Obviously super influential, Bela Lugosi is a gift, and the fact that there were a ton of divergences from the original 1897 novel didn’t bother me, but it’s not the sort of thing that I can see myself talking to someone about for hours on end. Basically, I had fun andI don’t actively hate it. If you’re looking for something scary, I wouldn’t recommend, but it’s very entertaining

Hannigram??? Works???
aka: Hannibal and Will’s relationship isn’t healthy but at the end of the series its sort of has the potential to be? Or: a very long and rambly analysis of idiot gay cannibals and the power of equal standing in relationships
(1.5k words because I murder brevity with my teeth)
Trigger/ Spoiler warning for: Hannibal
-------------------
Ok I said they have the potential to be healthy and not that they are healthy because--lol, they’re not.
In the first season they’re “friends” but Hannibal’s also gaslighting the hell out of Will/ keeping a life threatening disease diagnosis from him/ framing him for murder/ shoving their daughters ear down his throat.
In the second season they’re almost enemies? but not really? Because Will is just as fucked up as Hannibal is so he doesn’t actually consider Hannibal to be his enemy, he just realizes he has Hannibal twisted around his finger and starts jerking the fucker around and it takes Hannibal all the way up to the finale to realize he’s not the one in control anymore.
In the third season they’re struggling because they don’t know how to be equals, they’re both fucked up and don’t know how to have normal, stable relationships so they’re jsut kind of feeling in the dark, falling back on old habits (eating your problems, murdering your problems, running away from your problems, etc) when things get uncomfortable. It’s--again--not until the season finale that they both realize that’s what they’re BOTH doing and find a comfort in realizing they’re both trying, but not succeeding.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
When Hannibal finds people interesting he “fosters codependency” so they cannot leave him (Abigail with the Boyle murder cover-up, Bedelia with getting eaten, Will with literally all the first season). Meanwhile Will just doesn’t do close relationships. Alana is the only person he considers to be his friend but she’s constantly fighting to keep that title, same with Beverly actually. Will himself doesn’t put any effort into keeping those friendships, he leaves it entirely up to them.
But Hannibal and Will’s bond forms so easily that it surprises both of them--and then when Hannibal defaults to his need to make Will dependent on him so he can’t leave, Will defaults to his rejection of dependency and points out that’s what Hannibal’s doing but also goes along with it because he finds himself almost wanting to be closer to the man.
This--the fact that Hannibal’s attempt at closeness is recognized and accepted, and that Will is allowing himself to be open with someone--is new to both of them. Equally.
(By the way this is in the form of Abigail, Hannibal fosters codependency by putting the responsibility of Abigail on both his and Will’s shoulders and Will allows this by recognizing it, pointing it out [”You’re fostering codependency doctor.”], and then still allowing it [going along with the Boyle cover up].)
Just--ok think about Dolce. (The ep where they reunite in the third season and Will tries to kill Hannibal only to get shot by Chiyoh and then for Hannibal to decide he’s going to eat Will’s brain before the Italian’s show up and kidnap them both.)
Will finding Hannibal is big for both of them: because it means that Will looked for Hannibal--actively sought him out by reflecting on past conversations they’ve had--and it also means that Hannibal was where Will could find him. It’s a shaky apology on both sides because they aren’t willing to actually apologize for any of their actions but they recognize the pain they’ve caused on another.
However, Will tries to murder Hannibal because he doesn’t know what he’s doing. I mean--he does--what I mean is that this relationship is such unexplored territory for both of them that it’s uncomfortable at first, and Will doesn’t trust Hannibal to be waiting on the other side while he stumbles thru the dark rn, so he falls back on old habits and tries murdering the problem.
Hannibal tries to eat Will’s brain because he’s also falling back on old habits (eating his problems) because he’s also uncomfortable with the new territory. He’s just more open to fumbling, but he’s hypersensitive to rejection (Mizumono, Dolce, getting himself arrested when Will tells him to get gone, that “Was it good to see me Will?” scene, etc.), and he takes Will’s stabbing attempt as rejection. At least until he drags him away and they have their “you forgive like god does Will--would you have made it quick? Or would you have stopped to gloat?” “Does god gloat?” “Often.” Conversation, and he realizes he’s not being rejected BUT he reminded that he’s still terrified OF the rejection so--boop eat the man.
(Oh also Will running away from the problem by letting Hannibal kill him--which, yes, is what was happening. He could have warned Jack that Hannibal was under the table as SOON as Jack came in the door but instead he waits until the last possible second. Also you can’t blame it on the drugs either if he can complain about Hannibal’s soup and keep up with this idiots waxing poetic ramblings he can tell that Jack came in. Also also also: Hannibal told him Jack was coming and also got under the table literally there was no reason for Will to NOT call out to Jack when he came in except that he didn’t want Jack to stop Hannibal.)
I guess what I’m trying to say is that in season one the power balance is in Hannibal’s court--and season two it’s in Will’s--and then in season three it’s wildly rocking back and forth between both of them before someone hits a metaphorical pause button--aka the “this is all I’ve ever wanted for you--for us.” “It’s beautiful.” scene.
Fundamentally I think this show is about Hannibal and Will’s relationship. The cliff scene is as much an ending as it is a beginning. That “it’s beautiful” exchange is both of them realizing they’re EQUALLY having trouble finding footing in their relationship, they’re realizing they’re BOTH uncomfortable to a certain degree with the new territory and that it’s just that for both of them--new territory.
Idk, you know when you’re taking a test and you have no idea what the answer to some question is so you’re slyly trying to look around to figure out if you’re the only one being stupid or if it’s just a hard test? And you don’t see anyone else looking around so you just miserably try your best but it’s not your best becasue you’re already in the mindset that you’re an idiot? And it’s not until after the test at lunch when you hear everyone else talking about how difficult it was that you realize you weren’t the only one struggling?
THATS this.
Hannibal and Will are both extremely lonely people becasue they’re fucked up. No one can know Hannibal entirely because he’s a serial cannibal, and no one can know Will entirely because his boredom with other peoples mortality scares them. Neither of them have been seen entirely until the other came into their lives, but they’re not used to being seen so it’s scary.
Both of them react to one another hostilely first--Will blatantly being an asshole at the prospect of Hannibal psychoanalyzing him and then Hannibal putting on this guise of “I’m completely removed from the situation and just curious to wind this man up and watch him go” but he’s not removed.
Honestly to me it feels like it was originally Hannibal’s plan to just leave Will in jail taking the blame for his murders, but actually misses Will, because being seen was scary but the other option is so lonely.
Will’s going through something similar, but he’s less inflammatory. Hannibal is all action, present--Will is getting too close? Get rid of him. He starts missing Will? Get him back. He has a problem and he acts on it immediately.
Will is patient and willing to wait and watch--Hannibal frames him for murder? Set up an elaborate series of events that will end in Hannibal losing something he holds more dear than his own life--his freedom. Mason kills his unborn child? Convince Mason to kill Hannibal so that Hannibal will torture Mason for Will.
Hannibal is dramatic and Will is apathetic, they’re both danger but different brands.
If the first two seasons are them trading power, then the third is them wildly grabbing for it despite the fact that they don’t want power over one another, and that final episode--that final scene--is them realizing this.
I said it was a beginning as much as an ending because it’s now that their relationship can finally actually advance, but it’s also the conclusion of them working separately, and instead embracing the idea of fumbling together.
I honestly don’t know where people get the idea that the show is about Hannibal “corrupting” Will. If that’s the case then this final episode makes this show a tragedy. Good succumbing to evil.
But--motherfuckers its not!!!
Will isn’t good, he tells us from the first episode he enjoyed killing Hobbes, that the reason he stopped being a cop was because he knew once he started killing he wouldn’t be able to stop. He manipulates people constantly, he got Abel killed, tried to get Chilton murdered, and then a season later he gets Chilton burned alive. He’s not good, he’s fucked up!!!
This show isn’t about corruption--it’s about realization!!!
Idk I love them, I hate them, and I love them.
I've been doing some thinking and realizing just how far back this all goes. Those of you who know me and my family IRL may have a hard time believing the emotional abuse and gaslighting because whenever you've met them, they seemed fine. They may have even bragged about me to you which made you think that they thought very highly of me. They also may have neglected to inform you that I have been disabled by chronic illness the past 10 years (many of my other family members had no idea until they spoke to me personally. It's... really fucking weird? To just not tell anyone that your offspring is in bed all day in horrible pain and constantly at the doctor/ER?). Unfortunately this is also part of the gaslighting, putting on a persona of parental perfection so that no one believes me when I try to talk about it. Instead people, even within my family, make excuses for the abuse and say that I should just be grateful. Behind closed doors it's always been very different. In the event that me processing this in private spaces gets out to them (which WILL endanger me): This isn't about *~exposing~* or *~revenge~* or *~punishment~*, it's about putting the pieces together and saying, yeah, I'm right to finally put my foot down about the way I have been treated. This is my experience. This is my trauma. I'm finally claiming that after a lifetime of being told that these experiences and my pain around them are apparently "not real" (gaslighting). By talking about this, I am not victimizing myself, but empowering myself. Because none of this treatment was ever my fault. None of it was ever deserved. And none of this is to be blamed on my "response" to abuse. I hope that by talking about this I can paint a picture of the dynamic and inspire investigation into the health of your own family dynamics too. "But they're family" is literally what enables this kind of abuse to continue. And I'm done. My health and survival is more important than upholding a toxic family system. They're learning that the hard way, finally. I don't think my family members are bad people. I truly do love and care for them. They have some amazing qualities. They love animals and they've come a long way to now being LGBTQ+ allies even if they don't always use the right words. But they have a lot of flaws that most likely come from their own trauma... But these aren't just self-contained flaws. Because I am the one who will be undoing the damage for the rest of my life. I don't know if they will ever go to therapy themselves, but I certainly won't be waiting around for them to work on themselves if it means I'm going to continue to be mistreated and re-traumatized. - It's always been this way but things definitely got worse in my home when I became disabled (possibly bc it triggered insecurities in them?). Both parents ignored me to my face all my life. I'd say or ask something, and there'd be no response most of the time. If I said, "hey, I'm talking to you, that's rude" they would blow up at me about "WHAT. WHAT DO YOU WANT ME TO SAY. I HAVE THINGS ON MY MIND OKAY I HAVE MY OWN LIFE". This happened even when I was a literal child. I grew up believing that nothing I had to say was worth hearing and that if they ignored me that it was because I was unimportant and annoying. But if I ignore them or take too long to respond because I'm thinking, they scold me me about being rude, that they are my parents and I need to respect them. My emotions and pain have been invalidated since I was a child too. I would get picked up from afterschool care, or my bully's house, and of course I'd be crying from enduring a day of bullying. I would say, "I didn't do anything to them, it's not fair." And my dad's response was always, "WELL GUESS WHAT LIFE'S NOT FAIR. WAIT UNTIL YOU'RE AN ADULT IN THE REAL WORLD." He has continued to say this to me on a regular basis whenever I am struggling, either with work, friends, relationships, a death, or my chronic illnesses. I wonder why he has never considered my world to be real? Why is my reality not real to him? What
makes that even more painful is that I was still sent day after day to the school where I was bullied, to afterschool care with my bullies, and to my bullies' homes. No matter how much I was always crying when they picked me up, they just kept sending me back. And then a few of my dad's girlfriend's had children who bullied me too. I literally could never escape it. If it wasn't that, his response to me crying about something would be, "YOU HAVE NOTHING TO CRY ABOUT. YOU'RE LIVING THE LIFE OF LUXURY HERE, YOU DON'T PAY RENT! JUST WAIT UNTIL YOU'RE OUT THERE HAVING REAL PROBLEMS!" Again, he said this to me when I was a 24 year old who was suddenly in the span of a year so disabled that I could barely work. I was scared for my future, because I had taken the time to educate myself about my illnesses, and I knew that things were going to be hard for me. What I needed was support, not "tough love" and emotional invalidation. I was also scared of the situation I am in now. I was scared that I was going to be too sick to afford to move out and that by age 30 I would still be stuck at home with a parent who did not see my reality, my pain, as real. I am living that and it's not fun. Whenever I tried to talk to him about this invalidation, it just turned into a fight, because he refuses to admit the things that he said, and says things like "That's a You Problem" which he has said since I was a child in response to him hurting my feelings. I have always thought it was worth the effort to communicate to my loved ones this sort of issue, because that's what I was taught at school. If there's an issue, you talk about it. But my family doesn't believe that I guess. - When I first got sick, I was throwing up a lot. It had built up over several years since I was 19 but then after I was officially diagnosed with my Big 4 (colitis/fibro/ME/narcolepsy) I started having really dangerous vomiting attacks. The first attack I had lasted 6 days. I lost 12lbs. I overheard my dad complaining on the phone to a friend that I was keeping him up all night throwing up. I felt so bad for bothering him, I had learned to value his comfort over mine. But after the third day of nonstop vomiting, I told my dad I needed to go to the ER, that something was wrong. He sighed and rolled his eyes and said I didn't need to go. He was so annoyed with me for being sick. I was completely pale. I hadn't eaten anything. I could barely keep water down. I argued but he wouldn't listen. I went back to throwing up, at this point just dry-heaving. A while later I said, "I'm taking myself to the ER." I grabbed my car keys and my dad stopped me. He said, "That's ridiculous, you aren't driving yourself to the ER, I'll do it." But he still wouldn't take me for some reason. I don't know if he just didn't want to pay the copay or what. But I was literally trapped. I tried to fight it and said, "If you're going to take me, then take me. If not, let me take myself." I kept throwing up for three more days before he finally agreed to take me. The ER was packed so I ended up going to urgent care, where the nurse scolded me. She said I really should've gone to the ER after the third day of vomiting. She said that if I had gone a 7th day I could have collapsed. I didn't know how to tell her that I had tried. She asked where my family was and I said my dad had to go to work so he had just dropped me off. She had tears in her eyes and she held my hand. She said, "he should be here with you." THAT is how sick I was. That year, I went to the ER three more times. Each time I would be sobbing and ashamed of myself just for bothering my dad and for him having to pay the copay since I was too sick to earn the money myself. Again, that's how little I had learned to value myself and my health. By my birthday that year, I was suicidal from this shame. A few months later, in the new year, I started having vomiting attacks again. My dad stood over me while I was hunched over the toilet gagging and he said something I will never be able to forget, "You need to snap out of it
because I can't go through this again." He was the victim of my illness. He was the victim of my pain. This year was when my dad told me that he and his gf had been "talking" and that they had decided it was "time for me to be independent". He said they'd even help me find an apartment. I cried and said, "Dad, I'm sick. I've been so sick the past year. How am I supposed to afford even splitting rent with a roommate when I'm in bed in a neckbrace all day long?" and his response was, "But your dad needs his bachelor pad." I couldn't even identify what I was feeling. I was so shocked. Did he really think having the apartment to himself so he could have girls over was more important? But he was always telling me that I was the most important person in his life. I was so confused.
He gave me a time frame to move out and I was terrified. I thought my life was over. But most of all, I thought, "it's not fair to my dad that I'm sick." I thought so little of myself and my pain because that is what I learned as a kid. I blamed myself for not being "strong enough" to power through these debilitating illnesses. I blamed myself for my dad's money troubles. I literally could not live with myself knowing that my dad had to support me. I was so ashamed that I learned to vomit quietly so that he wouldn't notice. I was in a constant state of suicidality for several years after this. And it's no wonder, because year after year my dad has barged into my room to harass me about "it's time to be a Real Adult! It's time for you to Contribute to the household! You need to Make Money! I'm HEMORRHAGING money supporting you! I'm having to use my savings!" and because I was too sick to do this, I felt like a complete failure who did not deserve to live. I was self-harming constantly because I hated myself for "doing this" to my father. He had convinced me that I was the villain. I would start freaking out about money, forcing myself to work even if it meant vomiting literally on set (and almost being sent home bc of it, but I insisted I was fine to work). But I still couldn't make enough to afford my medical expenses. So I would shame-spiral and be suicidal again and then suddenly the story would change. My dad did a complete 180 and said, "Why are you even worried about money? We're doing fine. Even if I didn't have to support you, it wouldn't make that big of a difference in the money that I spend on this household. Don't worry about it." And then as soon as bills were due, he was back to telling me that I needed to make money. Back to saying we spent too much money on food despite me not eating that much. Back to refusing to try shopping somewhere cheaper when I suggested ways to save money. When I brought this up to my therapist back then, she said, "He's giving you mixed messages. Maybe you should bring this up to him so he realizes he's doing it." But when I did bring it up, of course my dad denied doing this and called me ungrateful even as I worked two jobs. When I eventually got a third job (fucking up my health more) to pay off my medical debt, my dad patted my back and told me how proud he was. When I told my therapist that he denied it, she suggested I bring him in so she could help us communicate. When I asked him to come with me to therapy, he got angry and said, "I am NOT going to therapy with you, that is ridiculous." But even with those 3 jobs it still wasn't enough and I was constantly being pulled between "YOU HAVE TO MAKE MONEY RIGHT NOW END OF THE WORLD" and "uhh why are you even worried about money, you need to work your mindset..." When bugged about money I would ask, "What else do you want me to do? I'm working 3 jobs. I'm not hiding money from you. I'm sending you everything that is leftover after I pay my own bills. I've even been buying a lot of my own food, I've been living off ramen and cans of ravioli." And he never had an answer except "just make more money." -- Now to the dynamic I'm currently living in. My dad moved his gf and her dog in without talking to me about it to see if it was going to impact my health. She was only supposed to stay here for maybe 4-5 days while she figured out a new home situation. But when I asked my dad about it in the days leading up to her arrival, suddenly the answer was "oh, she's staying indefinitely." I had no say in it. But we had a talk about what I needed to make this work. I said to my dad that the most important thing was that I have some scheduled quiet time. If I'm recording content or editing audio, I'm going to need quiet that morning so I can get my work done. If I'm resting, I need there to not be shouting or slamming doors happening in the house. He assured me that this was fine and that it'd all be easy for the three of us. The first weekend she was moved in, I let my dad know that I was editing audio that morning and needed
some quiet. He was cheerful and said, "No problem!" I thought wow, this is different. This is nice! This is going to be great for my productivity and health. As soon as I started editing, his gf was blasting music in the kitchen (right next to my room) and they were both laughing and talking loudly just a few steps away from my door. I thought, okay, we talked about this. But I'll just power through. When I was done, I went to my dad and said in a calm manner, "Hey, so this morning I let you know ahead of time that I was editing audio but there was still a ton of music and stuff in the kitchen, so it made it take a lot longer for me." His eyes immediately went dark. He put on an angry parent voice and said, "Okay, I am about to pop. I have enough going on without worrying about making too much noise for you." I said, calmly still, "We talked about this, though, and you assured me it wasn't a problem that I needed this quiet time for editing. So I'm not sure what to do. I'm just letting you know that there was still loud music right next to my room even though we had talked about it." He responded, "Then you need to be more specific because I don't know what you're doing in there." I corrected, "But I told you this morning that I was going to be editing audio and you said it was no problem to have some quiet in the kitchen while I did so." He got more aggressive, "No, you need to be more specific." Again, "I was specific. I told you the time frame that I was going to be editing audio in. You said you understood. I don't know what else to do to fix this other than by openly communicating to you about it." I started crying because--I mean, uhh?? This is gaslighting. I couldn't believe that mere hours after I had specifically told my dad that I was editing audio and that he had assured me it was no problem to have some quiet, that he was accusing me of not telling him what I needed, and that he had not agreed to it or something. Like wtf. He got nastier and blamed me for his stress. But me crying triggered his guilt so he tried to soothe himself by hugging me like he does and I pulled away. I tried to emphasize to him that I'm not just making content for fun. I'm literally trying to make money and contribute to the household like he has told me I need to do for the past 8 years. And when he disrupts my editing process, it just makes it take longer, and it makes it harder for me to earn extra money. His gf was also super rude to me when I tried to be friendly and have a conversation with her. I was telling her about how great it felt to have my sister initiate a conversation about my gender identity and she interrupted me (like she does constantly) to say, "YOU KNOW YOUR SISTER DOESN'T ACTUALLY GIVE A SHIT, RIGHT?" (wtf...) After this, I didn't speak to them for three days. I was feeling the urge to self-harm that whole weekend and all I could do was stay in bed crying after that. I knew if I spoke to them I would just get triggered so I was protecting myself. My dad felt guilty and tried to talk to me in my room. I tried to explain how triggering this whole situation is for me and he said he would do anything to make it easier for me. I had told him what I needed but that he had gaslighted me about it. - This next and last part is going to illustrate the priorities in this household. A few years ago, I started having problems with hives. I spent almost a whole year having very painful breakouts all over my body. It kept me up all night and caused me so much discomfort during the day. I kept telling my dad about it (no response, or annoyed responses), I went to the doctor several times about it (useless ointments), and suffered month after month. I tried so many things, I thought maybe it was bugs, spiders, etc. My asthma was also acting up and I remembered that an ex-neighbor had been suspicious of mold because of their health issues getting better the second they moved out. They had told me back then that we should test for mold. I brought it up to my dad that I had been suffering from this for
long enough and that we should do something about it (mold also makes fibromyalgia and ME way worse). He angrily snapped, "What do you want me to do about it?" I suggested we ask the landlord to mold test the apartment. He refused bc he doesn't like to bother the landlord. I said that I would just order a mold kit myself and he said, "No, let me do it, I'll pick the right one." But he wouldn't even after I kept reminding him. Even after I sent him links to mold kits that we could order. After I got rid of my mattress, my hives got a lot better but I still have issues every now and then. For years I have just lived with this because I couldn't get him to even care about the fact that I was spotted with these big pink hives. When his gf moved in, we had a random rainy day, which seems to have activated the mold. His gf got one tiny little hive and the sniffles. She said to him once, "Hey, I think you have mold in this house." Want to guess what happened after that? You're right. He immediately ordered several mold test kits. I said to my therapist, "How am I supposed to feel about that? Is it really unreasonable, am I really in the wrong to feel hurt by that?" My therapist said, "I mean, I would feel completely invalidated and like I didn't matter." This isn't the first time empathy has been withheld from me obviously (above examples during my flare ups), but sometimes even when it's right in front of him he just can't bring himself to care for some reason. One time a big piece of glass was in my thumb. I said, "Ahhh, glass, help! Glass!" He was eating snacks in the kitchen and just glanced at me, didn't move or say anything. I realized he wasn't going to help, so shaking and bleeding, I managed to pull the glass out with tweezers very painfully. It bled so much and I stood over the sink trying to stop it. My dad just kept eating his snacks, not asking if I was okay or anything, he didn't even look at me. After 5 minutes I still couldn't get the blood to stop and asked my dad if he could help, maybe get me some gauze. He put food in his mouth and sighed, "Just put pressure on it" and walked away. It feels like he's just disgusted with me. I know that he does love me and that he's trying the best he can with all of his mental/emotional/personality flaws but he thinks that just because he puts a roof over my head that he can treat me however he wants and not work on his issues, that it's my fault for being hurt. He thinks that his issues are all on me to learn to endure and it's not right. I know that he resents me for getting in the way of him having a relationship because that's the only message I have gotten since childhood, with every woman he's brought into my home. But in the end his relationships always fall apart because the woman ends up realizing, and stating to him, that he is "emotionally absent". And every time, I comfort my dad through the break up. When he has tried to blame his ex I said once to him that therapy can really help him with his emotional issues and relationships. But he refuses, so. That's on him. But I refuse to believe that I am in the wrong here for saying enough is enough. But he's going to keep trying to make me believe that the problem is just me and my feelings, not his behavior. Nope. Boundary is up. I just have to keep to myself and do what I need to do to stay safe until I can move out. Because I guarantee you he's going to realize he doesn't get enough validation from his gf and then come running back to me as always and then be angry that I'm still holding my boundary strong. I know that this will hurt less as I get distance from it, but I don't like the idea of my pain being my fault when I grew up with this toxic stuff. I'm working so hard to make it hurt less but I can't heal if it keeps happening, so all I can do is back away from what is hurting me instead of being surprised when I'm hurt again. THAT is on me 100%. Hopefully he doesn't grab my desk and slam it against the wall again like in 2014 when I first tried to set this boundary. And of course when he
"apologized" he accused me of "punishing him" by not spending time with him. Jee-zus, dude. Get therapy. I can't be the only one in this family bearing this weight and working on my shit.
Alright- this fic is definitely going to be extremely dark. There is definitely going to be a lot of triggers in here. The reason why I wrote it so dark though is because the fiction that I've read isn't as dark as I would like, but then again I'm a very angsty person so that would make sense.
Trigger warnings// gaslighting, slight abuse, manipulation, depictions of violence, panic attacks, breakdowns, things like that- (also swearing and stuff)
Don't say i didn't warn you! (i cant put the break yet so ill do that later)
Ranboo didn't know what to expect when he went to visit Tommy in his exile. Surely he didn't expect anything good of course, but wasn't expecting anything too bad either. The Enderman hybrid could only visit the sixteen-year-old once every two weeks. If he would visit more than that, Dream would most likely prohibit him from visiting at all. Of course he would. The former vice president is in exile after all.
Walking through that Nether portal and stepping into Logstedshire, Ranboo was immediately filled with concern. Looking around the area, it seemed like the place had gone through hell and back. On the beach there were tons of Seagulls picking at what seemed like cake on the table; the place that Wilbur had built when Tommy came to exile for the first time was blown to smithereens, the tent was ripped to shreds and also blown up, and there were a bunch of random images of people from L'manburg hung up on wooden signs which were ripped brutally.
He also noticed the huge pillar in the distance, built on top of a large hill behind Logstedshire. Ranboo didn't want to think of the worst, so he decided to just ignore it.
Deciding that maybe it was a bad time to come after he called around for a bit with no reply, Ranboo walked back through the Nether towards L'manburg, trying to stay positive as tears started to drip down his face.
Tubbo didn't ask anything when Ranboo came back from Logstedshire in silence. His presence didn't give off a good vibe compared to his usual lively self which is full of positivity. 'Something must have happened,' he thought to himself. 'But what?'
Tommy had to get away. If he didn't he would be slaughtered eventually. If he didn't get away now, he wasn't sure he would be able to survive until the end of his exile.
The sixteen-year-old had been walking through the cold plains of the frozen biome for what seemed like hours. It was freezing oh, and he meant that literally. Also make matters worse, his clothes were worn out and he didn't have any shoes. The only bit of warmth that he kept was Wilbur's old hat. The one that he wore when he was alive. His physical and mental state didn't help him at all either. His body was weak from poor eating habits along with bruising and cuts. He didn't want to think about how he got them, so he pushed the thought out of his mind. His mental state was slowly deteriorating oh, Tommy becoming desensitized to nearly everything around him.
Not paying attention to any of his surroundings, the teenager tripped on a rock with his bare feet. The rock was unfortunately sharp and cut deep through the bottom of his foot not allowing him to walk. The cold was numbing it for a bit, so he wouldn't feel the actual pain for a while. His expression not changing, Tommy attempted to get up. The cold only pushed him down, adding the numbness of his limbs. He shivered as a harsh gust of wind pushed past him. Its not like it would matter to anyone if he decided to lay in the snow for a while. Gaining comfort in the softness of the cold, Tommy closed his eyes, promising that he would only sleep for a little bit.
His bloodlust was strong, but how strong he didn't know. Technoblade first melted when he opened the door to throw out some rotten flesh. It made him stop in his tracks as the voices started to scream for blood. His eyes narrowed as he looked in the direction he assumed it was coming from. Being logical, the pig thought that it was just an animal that had hurt themselves badly while falling off a cliff or running into a tree, but this was different. Techno had already known what the smell of animal blood was like, he means, it's pretty common for animals to get hurt around here. This was different though. Technoblade smelled human blood, or at least something similar to human blood. The scent was so strong and made the voices scream louder, his eyes dilating with the inability to control himself.
Dropping everything that he was doing previously, and forgetting to close the doors of his house before he left, the pig trudged towards the source of what he was smelling. Even in the thick snow, his movement and eyesight were enhanced. It didn't seem to slow him down at all as he moved stealthily. He hadn't remembered the last time he felt so sensitive to everything around him. So aware.
Picking up the pace as the voices begged him to go faster, techno felt the scent getting stronger. He knew he was close, he could almost taste it. The words blood for the blood god repeated in his head over and over as he continuously got stronger. Excitement built up in his chest at the thought of a new prey.  He could see in the distance that someone was laying in the snow. 'Weak and helpless,' the voices chanted loudly. 'Kill them!' They screamed.
Before he could obliged to the voices, techno blade paused. He was sure he recognized who was lying in the snow. Before he knew it, the voices had suddenly switched tunes, all of them saying that it was Tommy who lay there and to help him. Concerned etched into his features as the blood lust calmed down, I letting him think clearly for once. The blade examined the 16-year-old boy as he kneeled next to him. It seems that the vice president was unconscious,  and it seemed like the blood was coming from him. Searching his body and around him, he found a blood trail following Tommy for about two feet. A sharp rock caught his eye, leading him to assume that Tommy had cut his foot while walking. Picking the boy up as the thought of it getting infected filled his mind, Technoblade raced back to his house. It didn't also help how freezing cold it was, and how abnormally light the teenager was.
When he arrived to his base, the blade immediately slammed the door shut, startling Edward who was asleep with his dirt block. Technoblade climbed up the ladder rapidly and place Tommy on his bed before practically jumping back down it to get some bandages and a healing pot. Again, repeating the process of racing of the ladder, technical blade started on healing The cut on Tommy's foot. The main reason he was rushing so much was because he was afraid the voices would flip their switch again and decide that they want Technoblade to kill Tommy. After taking a few hours to heal the child, Techno took off his cape and covered the younger brother with it along with a few blankets. He wasn't sure how long the he could assume former vice president was outside in the cold. For all he knew, Tommy could have hyperthermia and also some other sickness on top of that.
The emperor took the time to examine Tommy Innit, Remembering how light the kid was when he picked him up. Tommy looked frail. He never thought of a more unfitting word to describe the former. He looked like he had barely eaten since the last time he saw him, say six or seven months ago. There were bruises on his face along with some cuts and a newly placed bandage on his nose. His golden hair that was usually fluffy and bright was dirty and matted, some sticks, leaves, and snow all mixed together in it. Every few minutes, Tommy would start shaking and hug himself before changing position and going back to sleeping like a dead man. He also noticed the bags under his eyes. Techno debated whether they were worse than his or not, but it was pretty obvious that it was terrible how he could have gotten those bags in such a short amount of time. He caught a glimpse of Tommy's forearm, which was worryingly covered in bandages.
Technoblade wanted to ask what it happened to him, but he decided it was better that he didn't for now. Climbing back down the ladder to go make some food, Techno left the child alone to sleep, preparing for when he would wake up.
Truth to Triumph
Chapter 15: The Evening
September 30, 1904
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
On August 31, 1904 the New York Daily Tribune published an appeal to help the youngest victims of the Slocum tragedy find a brief respite in the countryside - “None of these children are maimed or sick in the ordinary sense of the word - it is more heart sickness with them.”
One week later - September 6, 1904 - the newspaper published just a few letters from the dozens of kind-hearted New Yorkers who volunteered to provide this service for these children. Giving them a sliver of happiness and joy and sunshine, amid so much horror. “One little girl who has just come back from Tenafly [New Jersey] seems literally to have new life put into her.”
---
“Thank you, Julia.” Jamie kissed his soon-to-be mother-in-law on the cheek, gratefully taking a glass of whisky from the tray she’d brought into the sitting room on the ground floor.
 “We all need at least two of these tonight,” she smiled as Claire took her own glass, settling against Jamie’s side on the couch.
 Julia set down the tray and eased into a chair. “Did Henry get to sleep all right?”
 “He did.” Claire closed her eyes at the first burn of whisky. “I feel bad he’s been cooped up in the house the past few days – thank God Papa didn’t build that sunroom, so that we still have the garden out back.”
 “I asked his permission to marry Claire.” Jamie’s free hand squeezed Claire’s. “He said yes.”
 Julia’s hand flew to her chest. “Oh, my. How thoughtful.”
 “I’m going to take Jamie’s name when we get married – and then we’ll start the paperwork for him to adopt Henry.” Claire squeezed Jamie’s hand. “We want to keep living here, at least for a little while. Henry can’t have too much change. That is, if it’s all right – ”
 “Don’t even think of asking.” Julia smiled from behind her whisky. “This is your home – you too, Jamie.”
 “It’s been home since the first time I crossed the threshold,” he smiled. “I know I’ve said it before, but being part of your family is something I never dreamed I’d have, the first time I saw Claire.”
 Footsteps on the hallway floorboards – and then the elder Henry appeared, shoulders slumped. Julia held out a glass of whisky, and he bent to kiss her in gratitude before settling in the other chair.
 “I’m so glad we put in that telephone last year. We’ve been getting more use out of that contraption these past few days than I ever thought possible.”
 “Who have you been speaking with, love?”
 Henry rubbed tired eyes. “First my stockbroker. I’m not sure if your colleagues at the paper told you this, Jamie – but in the past three days, the stock prices of both Wentworth Industries and the Fort William Company have completely collapsed.”
 Julia gasped.
 “How bad?” Jamie set down his empty glass, wrapping his arm around Claire.
 “More than half. Meaning that Randall and Hawkins’ millions are now mostly gone.”
 “Oh my God.” Claire’s hand flew to her heart.
 “Nobody knew before that they owned the Knickerbocker Steamship Company, Jamie. How is that possible?”
 He shrugged. “Boss Tweed hasn’t been gone from the political scene for very long, Henry.”
 “True. And the stock prices can still recover, of course.”
 “Of course. But the damage is done.” Claire twined her fingers through Jamie’s.
 “I wouldn’t say ‘done,’ Claire. Randall and Hawkins can still fight back.”
 “Yes – Mr. Pulitzer told me today their lawyers have already filed defamation lawsuits against the World.”
 “But on what grounds?” Julia passed a plate of cookies to Claire. “It’s not like the paper manufactured facts out of thin air. They do own the company. You just reported the truth.”
 “That doesn’t matter, love.” Henry toed off his loafers. “The whole point is to gum up the works. To distract. It’s worked for them and people like them, hundreds of times before.”
 “And it still doesn’t bring the captain and crew of the Slocum to justice.” Jamie chewed on a gingersnap – his favorite, baked fresh by Mrs. Crook just for him at least twice a week. “It’s easy to go after the owners. It’s a whole other thing to go after the people who were actually there on that day.”
 “So how does that happen?” Claire took Jamie’s half-eaten cookie and popped it into her mouth. “Wouldn’t that be a criminal case?”
 “Yes. Probably criminal negligence, for starters. And the same charges can – should – be filed against Knickerbocker.” Henry took another sip of whisky. “That was my second call – to our attorney. I told him what happened in the park with Henry. Claire, I hope you don’t mind –”
 “Oh Papa, you know I don’t. I just want to know if what happened was actually illegal.”
 “It’s not. Joe was very clear – no physical harm, or intention of harm, was made. And of course there’s nothing to prove that the Randalls put the man up to it – nothing to trace him back to them.” Henry paused. “You have to consider, Claire, that if you pursue charges against the Randalls, you’ll have to explain to a lot of people why you have those suspicions. And one way or another, many more people will find out about Henry and how he came to be.”
 Jamie’s arm tightened around her shoulders.
 “I understand.” Her voice was tired but strong. Clear. “And I don’t want that.” She pursed her lips. “I’m not ashamed of Henry. I just don’t want that family to get any more attention, for any reason.”
 Jamie knew just how strongly Claire felt about the subject; they had discussed it at length the night before. Sitting in Claire’s window seat on the fifth floor of the brownstone, both clad in their pyjamas and bathrobes, Henry asleep in the adjoining room. Passing a tumbler of whisky back and forth. Sharing hopes and dreams and smoky kisses. A coziness they could look forward to for the rest of their lives.
 One day Henry would be told the truth – but that day wouldn’t come for a long time yet.
 “And then my last call was with Jerry MacKenzie – Jamie, I don’t know if you’ve met him, but he’s my partner in the architecture firm. Someone called the office today and said that the Randalls’ cottage in Newport may be up for sale, and they already wanted an estimate – ”
 Four loud knocks sounded at the front door.
 Immediately Jamie rose, pulling Claire behind him.
 Already Henry was at his wife’s side. “Julia, darling – the Colt, if you please. Quickly.”
 Julia turned to a side cabinet next to the fireplace, set a Chinese porcelain bowl on the mantel, pressed down on the marble top – and swiftly produced a snub-nose revolver, its mother-of-pearl handle gleaming in the gaslight.
 The knocking continued.
 “Upstairs.” Henry palmed the revolver and strode to the door in his socks. “Claire – Julia. Now.”
 Swiftly they disappeared. Jamie took his place at Henry’s side as he opened the door –
 And Mary Hawkins Randall tumbled into the vestibule.
yeah i meant the specific aspects of the remake. like what did you think they did better than the original version? i was curious because you have a lot of detailed thoughts on things and an interesting perspective.
i think that’s the problem and where i feel a disconnect w/ a lot of critical folks On Line. i don’t... really think of remakes in a matter of “original vs. remake” unless something really sticks to me. like tlk 2019 isnt supposed to be compared to tlk 1994 in my brain, they’re just two different ways of telling the same story, and i like the STORY, not the medium it’s told in.
so it’s kinda hard to say cause like the story was 100% exactly the same as it was originally. like there’s really not much i can think to compare. the only things noticeably different to me separate of the medium are
certain sequences that relied on the film being a cartoon (like i just can’t wait to be king & the improv luau) were framed differently so they could land in a way that was realistic but still kept the fun of them
scar’s charisma was dialed down quite a lot, because again, a lot of his appeal relies on his cartoonishness (and mayyyybe they made him more brooding and less of a sissy because of the outdated villain queercoding, idk if i have that kinda faith in disney)
other super outdated jokes were updated to be more funny & with the times, both ones that were harmless and ones that i’m glad are gone (ed was changed completely & renamed, thank you. they toned down rafiki’s shitty african witch doctor thing too)
be prepared was shaved down considerably and got a few verses added
other than that its. its the exact same movie. the original score is beat for beat exactly the same. it sounds the exact same as it did when i was a child. many scenes in the movie are, shot for shot, exactly the same as they were originally. i imagine a lot of stupid cringe culture types are probably talking about how “lifeless” the cartoony scenes from the original look, now, but are they talking literally at all how much the cgi lends itself to the scenes that were meant to be realistic? sweeping, beautiful shots of the african savannah and all the animals that live there? like i cannot stress this enough, but the circle of life sequence is beat for beat shot for shot EXACTLY the same as it was originally, but now it’s REAL. you are REALLY there watching the animals gather and you can really see and hear all of them in rapturous celebration as they witness the birth of this eventual saviour.
the fucking scene before mufasa dies? you are THERE. you are in the gorge, and the way the wildebeasts fucking spill down into it from the dips in the mountaintop is fucking chill-inducing. like god dude. ANY SHOT where you can see the stars, out on the savannah and in real-life rather than the 2d, they are SWIMMING around you and the protagonists both. simba’s last happy moment with mufasa is already so fucking heart-wrenching with the score on top of it and when you know it’s their last together, but when you really fucking feel as though its you and them and all the great kings of the past, like, FUCK, dude?
some other things i liked that the original didn’t do:
the sex dust scene. in the original, simba collapses onto a clifftop and this culmination of dirt and dust and fur travels back on the wind magically to rafiki and lets him know that he’s alive. in the remake, a tuft of simba’s mane travels on the wind, and into a stream, where its picked up by a bird who uses it for their nest, where it floats off to a leaf that’s eaten by a giraffe, where its then taken by a dung beetle who pushes it across the desert, and it just goes ON AND ON like that until it makes it to rafiki’s tree and the whole scene is genius because it wasn’t just Disney Magic but the LITERAL GREAT CIRCLE OF LIFE that brings hope back to the pride lands god i want to DIE
the remake makes cloud!mufasa this culmination of thunder when in the original he was a lot more... idk, clouds and stars? maybe i just never caught onto this as the intention, but as simba’s coming home a storm rolls in. it’s thunder that strikes the pride lands and lights them ablaze, and its rain that calms that blaze. fire in fiction as a symbolic device means a LOT to me, i am obsessed with subverting it as a force of destruction and if you read ANY of my writing you’ll know i almost always frame it as something healing. and it’s literally fire that cleanses the desolation, it burns away all the rot and famine and death, and then simba’s coronation is literally in the pouring rain, his proudest moment happens as the same storm that burned away his fallen kingdom calms the fires to begin anew. i never fucking realized watching the original that the storm was mufasa taking back what rightfully belonged to his own. i feel like the remake made it way more intentional.
literally the only thing i disliked about the remake was how bad scar suffered as a villain but i feel like there’s probably a million reasons why they could’ve done that and idk i’m eager to hear them if there are. i think he was a lot less intimidating because he was a lot less likeable. scar’s scary because he’s a textbook abuser who talks like one and manipulates like one and built his whole kingdom on gaslighting a child in his care on the tail end of an actual murder and you’re kinda supposed to feel gross and uncomfortable about the fact that you enjoy watching him and laugh at his funnies. like i said before, he was a lot less charismatic and a lot more brooding in the remake. but that didn’t like... ruin it for me. i started crying on the first beat of circle of life. i stopped crying on the last beat of circle of life (reprise)
i have stayed away and tried to be pretty liberal w/ my blocks/unfollows when it comes to people shitting on disney remakes (and ive been that way since beauty and the beast tbh sdkjfgsfd) so i really don’t know what stupid opinions they’re spewing now but like. i just hope people know that, last i checked, a remake doesn’t erase an original. like.......... you can. you can watch the original. jessica literally did that a few hours after seeing the remake. i was like oh SHIT good idea.
like from where i’m standing i just have two ways to watch the lion king now so i guess the people who are mad can go be mad and i will be here with my two simbas,,,, nothing but respect for my lion king
