I admittedly got into RDR2 five years late and I remember being confused seeing older comments of fans completely dogpiling on Mary Linton (née Gillis - a character who I interpreted much differently than these users did), but assumed maybe people would have grown up a bit since then and understand Mary better. Unfortunately, I still see so many people completely misunderstand and shit on Mary's character and I want to talk about it (this meta will be my opinion AND biased as a Mary defender, but idc)

I cannot stand it when people, particularly male fans, call Mary "manipulative" or someone who just "uses Arthur when it's convenient to her" because that just isn't true, and it really shows that a lot of the people who just trash on her have no idea what they are actually talking about.

Labelling her as someone who uses Arthur just for her own personal conveniences makes no sense when you consider the fact that so many other characters, including members of the Van der Linde gang, have also asked Arthur to do things for them, including requests that are much worse than anything Mary could have asked for (you know, like Strauss for example?). Not only that, but if Arthur rejects Mary's help, she doesn't get angry - if anything, she understands why he may be reluctant to help her. If Mary truly only wanted to use Arthur, she wouldn't have shown how grateful she was for his help and how much she truly did miss spending time with him by asking him out on a date to the theatre.

And to those who criticise her for not being able to leave her family sooner: do you... not remember the time period this story is set in? All of RDR2 (1899 - 1907) takes place before women got electoral equality with men (1928) and during the main story's time, women were very much under the control of their husbands - or their fathers if they were not married. A big reason as to why Arthur wasn't able to marry Mary in the first place when they were courting each other was because her father didn't approve of his outlaw lifestyle (also, I am unsure if Mary ever alluded to her marriage with Barry Linton being an arranged one, but I lowkey got that impression - perhaps her father wanted to severe the relationship between Mary and Arthur completely by arranging a marriage for her with another man who was also from a seemingly middle-class background/very much not an outlaw and ensure the relationship between her and Arthur would end).

Even if she had more of her own autonomy, we must remember that Mary is part of an abusive family unit. She often tries to excuse her father's terrible actions even though she knows how awful of a man he has become over the years. She is isolated and is hopping from one temporary shelter to another (Valentine, Saint Denis, etc) - she is a widow, she cannot depend on her father obviously, she cannot depend on her mother since she died, nor could she depend on her brother Jamie since perhaps she thought that she was meant to be the source of dependency as the older sibling. Mary said it herself in her goodbye letter (if Arthur rejects to help her) that she truly had no one else to turn to. Arthur was literally the only other person she could ask help from and even then, it seemed like a last resort after not interacting with each other for many years before her first mission and her being apologetic for taking up his time.

Mary holds a lot of regret and remorse for how things ended and it is clear she still thinks about what could have been between her and Arthur. When she fully accepts that she doesn't want to continue living such a miserable life because of her family, she makes a big leap in suggesting she and Arthur run away together, a parallel to Arthur's proposal years before, showing that she has grown and no longer wants to accept a life she feels trapped in.

People who criticise Mary for not being able to leave her family + the life she has always known behind should also consider how Arthur is the exact same. He is as much of a victim of this unfair circumstance as Mary is, but we have seen how he couldn't leave the gang life behind. It was what he died for, after all. He failed to meet the promise he made to Mary that he would run away with her after getting some money and ensuring the gang members' safety - which technically isn't his fault since this was pre-Guarma, but Mary couldn't have known about that. To her, he kept making promises he couldn't keep/getting dragged into violent crime life and she couldn't bear to continue having false hope anymore.

It's a shame that Mary has been given such a bad rap by certain fans who have mischaracterised her. Her story is a sad one and so is her love story with Arthur. I will always love and defend Mary (+ the other main female characters of RDR2) and I truly wonder how different her and Arthur's lives would have been if they managed to run away and get married (TB ideally excluded) and how happy they would have been.

I think the biggest thing I've learnt from the more critical side of MHA is: don't let your favoritism affect your story. I think it's natural that you're gonna like more characters than others. But if it's like noticeable to a point where the audience sees it, it's a big problem. Or if the character is a fan favorite, they'll praise it to sky heaven. The fact that Izuku VS Shigaraki has been oddly side lined so much in favor of Bakugo VS OFA or him rescuing All Might is... weird to me. Like, I get it. He was dead for a year in our time. But... this IS Izuku's story not Bakugo's. Even if Bakugo is a deuteragonist, he's still not the MAIN protagonist. Shouldn't we be shifting more or less to Izuku VS Shigaraki? MHA has been building up their final fight for 8-9 years, and we're oddly all focused on AFO and Bakugo? And for AFO's backstory, I care less for the potato man. Shigaraki is the villain of MHA, not potato man. Such as Izuku is the protagonist of the story, Bakugo isn't. And it's so baffling to me to see MHA twt praise this series to high heaven and just don't oddily notice that Izuku is just oddily fucking quiet through out this fight?? I know he's focused on stopping Shigaraki, but nothing???? Like the Toga and Uraraka and Todoroki Family arcs got all the attention they deserved, so why tf isn't Izuku and Shigaraki?? I understand they were gonna be last, it IS the final battle after all, but it just seems it's gonna go downhill from there.

Plus, how tf is Izuku gonna be able to save Shigaraki?? Izuku is at his witt's end, and Bakugo said he would take care of AFO. Because if it's ACTUALLY Bakugo & Izuku VS Shigaraki. I'll just- I'll be so done. I get the whole "Izuku doesn't have to do everything on his own" but like- Shigaraki literally KILLED Bakugo and got revived from his goddamn blood exploding. (That shit is still funny to me.) like good Lord, can Izuku just have HIS moment??? If all of the cool power ups and cool moments go to Bakugo instead of Izuku, and Bakugo somehow saves the day.

The fucking ending is gonna be ruined by favoritism. Again, this is just an IF. But I felt crazy reading twt's and no one noticing Izuku hasn't said anything of a) Bakugo being brought back to life b) or just reacting to anything. It just seems like Izuku is just there as a device to carry us towards the ending, at this point.

Mind-boggling how people will look at this shit and still say Horikoshi doesn't favor Bakugou. Like, what? He is 1-v-1-ing the big bad of the series. The villain who killed almost every past OFA user (would also like to add that these are the same users he insulted and looked down on, so if he is the one to finish AFO, that's a slap in the face to every single one of them). The man who incapacitated All Might. The Demon King who's ruled the underbelly of Japan for the past 200 years.

And you mean to tell me that Katsuki Bakugou of all people is his final boss? That's just embarrassing for AFO tbh.

But the fact of the matter is, yeah Izuku's fight with Shigaraki should have been the main event. Instead, it's being treated as a side quest. Hell, it's being treated as less than a side quest as both Uraraka & Toga and the Todorokis & Dabi were given more attention.

It's sad, not only for Izuku but for Shigaraki too. Horikoshi was so close to making him a complex villain, only for all of his character progression from Deika to go down the toilet. He can't be saved because he's been written to be so completely detached from his humanity.

In general, Izuku and Shigaraki should have had more moments together throughout the series. This interaction between them is meaningless because Izuku doesn't understand Shigaraki enough to save him. It's why he's getting frustrated because there's really no feasible way for him to save Tomura. He isn't Eri or Kota who were just kids in danger and who wanted to be rescued.

I hate to say it, but Izuku hasn't had enough development to be able to save Shigaraki. It's not his fault (it's Hori's), but it's true. For him to understand Tomura, he needed to broaden his worldview and Horikoshi hasn't allowed him to do that.

It's an utter disservice to both characters

Faerie dragons aren't a new concept exactly, but these are mine. My patrons voted for the reward theme for December to be Wild Vs Tamed Magic, but I just can’t help myself and got a creature involved too. Buckle up, this is going to be a bit long! (And a heads up, the dragon section is going to be a bit dark.)

The Lore of Wild and Tamed Magic:

It's said these are the two kinds of magic in the Devil in the Details world, but they're both really just umbrella terms.

Wild magic is what some might consider "real" magic, in that it is unpredictable, incomprehensible and comes with a considerable amount of danger with each use. It is not something that can be controlled or understood; The second it is, it is no longer considered Wild, but Tamed. Wild magic is found among various magical flora and fauna, as well as magic folk and these days also humans. Generally Wild Magic occurs when strong feelings, instincts or wishes have been triggered. But if you use it, you may not get the result you wanted, and certainly not when you wanted either. There are plenty of records of uses of Wild Magic that have seemingly resulted in absolutely nothing, and suddenly years later it finally triggered and resulted in both unexpected disasters and blessings. But likewise, there are plenty of cases where the magic happened immediately in reaction to the user's strong emotions - sometimes with great results, and sometimes with the result of the user finding themself in a flood when all they wished for was a sip of water.

Meanwhile, Tamed Magic is the result of trying to understand and control this immense and strange force. Some people would call it science, and that isn't wrong, but the truth is even as people's ability to control magic has grown better, no one still knows what magic actually is. Certain methods have been proven somewhat effective in controlling the result of it, but the reason why they work is still a mystery.

There is now a vast amount of knowledge of spells and magic technology thanks to a collaboration between magic folks and humans, but even so, the amount of magic to still be explored seems infinite. As mentioned earlier, Tamed Magic is also an umbrella term, under which there are countless magic systems - ways of practicing controlled magic. A lot of them are known, but some magic folks keep their spells a secret, and a lot of the recorded ones are locked away and kept safe from the public for safety reasons.

The taming of magic is a constant, and dangerous work in progress.

Faerie Petal Dragons, and their relation to Tamed Magic: It is believed that faerie petal dragons are the first species to have learned how to tame magic. While this is hard to actually prove, tales of them have been passed down through generations of magic folk for thousands and thousands of years. In ancient times, various species of dragon were fairly common, especially in lands where humans didn't thrive. And the smallest of them all were the faerie dragons. Rather than trying to compete with other dragon species by growing bigger and stronger, they instead grew to focus on stealth and blending in. Faerie Petal Dragons in particular lived in evergreen and ever flowering lands, and had grown reliant on hiding among flowers in order to throw off eventual predators, like larger dragons. Unfortunately, as centuries and millennia passed, the other species of dragons only grew bigger, stronger, and above all more destructive. It wasn't uncommon for an entire field to become completely inhabitable from a single breath of a larger species. As such, the need to adapt and defend themselves rose among the faerie petal dragons. But there was only one thing they had that they could use to defend themselves and their territories - magic. But how could they, if using Wild Magic came with the possibility of destroying their lands themselves? Ultimately, they had no choice though, as their lands shrunk more and more, and more of them perished to the bigger, mightier dragons. And it was then, pushed to the brink, they learned that if they were doomed regardless, they might as well go down with a fight - and somewhere along the line they also learned that if they were very, very angry, the magic they used would reflect that with targeted destructive power similar to what had previously been used on them as their territories were destroyed. And that was the first time magic had been tamed, that we know of. And you'd think it would end there, but these tiny dragons are highly intelligent, and once they realised they had a chance at controlling magic, they then spent thousands of years expanding on that idea and learning how to tame it in more instances than just those where they were threatened and angry. But as intelligent as they were, they were also equally reckless, and ironically a lot of them perished in the process of trying to tame magic due to accidental curses or unfortunate accidents. Instead of being hunted by larger dragons, they themselves were now their worst enemies. However, those who survived this process went on to grow extremely strong. Ultimately, they became beings no one would want to pick a fight with, except maybe the gods themselves.

In the end, magic folks and other magical beings saw what the tiny dragons were doing, and became inspired to tame magic themselves.

These days, the faerie petal dragons have recovered their numbers quite a bit, and are friendly to humans. Given that they are basically just tiny little magic nerds (very powerful magic nerds) they are always extremely curious about the spells these weird, short lived humans are developing.

A fair warning though: If you're a spell crafter, they will try to get into your lab at all costs. And they will succeed. And you do not want that, given their reckless history. In face, there are laws and safety protocols that forbid you from disclosing the location of a spell crafter study, lab or spell vault to faerie petal dragons. In short - they're lovely beings that could destroy your home with a sneeze, and if you wanted one as a companion, they will not be the pet. You will be 😉

I actually haven't been directly named yet. I could literally walk away unscathed, but my heart hurts so much and I am filled with so many emotions that I feel like I'm going to burst. I am internally imploding.

Keeping quiet has made me physically ill, I have lost twenty pounds, I have ongoing shingles from stress (the stress being unable to deal with strong emotions with no outlet), I am feeling ashamed of myself, who I am, how I handle things. I am full of guilt and self hatred over my feelings. Why can't I just be like you guys? Why can't I just let it wash over me and move on and ignore it?

I question everything I post and say now.

I am once again a child being told that everything I feel is wrong, that I'm wrong.

I'm not blaming any of you for that, but my mental health is falling apart.

Part of my healing was embracing my anger and not being ashamed of my feelings, and venting them honestly and openly.

I'm fifty feet back in my journey, and back to hiding and killing my thoughts and emotions.

I haven't switched since April because I'm so scared to let anyone else out that I can't control.

Let's cover the big ones

Was SN involved in the banning of Sophie? No. The server only opened that same day.

Was SN involved in the second banning of Sophie? No. That was only two days later, we still weren't fully open.

The few members in the server show complete confusion over her banning, and rules were added that first day that those involved in harassment or false reporting would be banned.

Was SN involved in the banning of eeveecraft? This one is actually hilarious because you'll see that no one knew who the hell eeveecraft was. It's genuinely hilarious the number of, "who?" Like, wow, you're really not that important.

The Sophie bot: it was a handful of uwus and a joke about balloon popping, THAT'S IT, I am LITERALLY looking at the members being upset over one of Sophie's posts at the time, members venting hurt and fear and upset, extreme frustration, struggling with feelings of powerlessness, and someone made a joke, and I'm looking at apologies and rule updates FROM BEFORE SOPHIE EVEN KNEW ABOUT IT

One user made a post and mistakenly or accidently implied it was still happening, but they weren't even in the server at the time it happened. It was not months of rping and harassment. I am still pissed about that post.

It was one person, one night, get over yourself

While watching the SN mods live rent free in Sophie's head was funny, it's just annoying now. Sorry one of the members did something dumb. Can we have apologies for all the baseless accusations you've slung our way, and the ACTUAL months of harassment?

SN harbouring a pedo?! Mods were very open and honest with members during the event. Multiple announcements were made as we investigated. We spoke with members about their comfort. In the end, the accusations were unfounded, confirmed to be false by the alleged victims themselves. We did our due diligence and we supported our members. There are zero safety concerns.

Their real name?! It wasn't their deadname, HOW THE FUCK WERE WE SUPPOSED TO KNOW, WHAT WERE YOU SERIOUSLY THINKING WHEN YOU LEGALLY CHANGED YOUR NAME TO THAT, WHY

Also, see a therapist, your obsession with that person is TERRIFYING and you genuinely need to talk to someone

My past relationships: thank you for dragging that into this, low move, it's not like I had just gotten the situation to calm down and I was finally able to relax, but you're known to react before hearing both sides. Trust me, the damage was mutual, and I can't talk about it because I'm being blackmailed. That person has my name and address. To them, go ahead, post it, let the community decide if it was one-sided and if I blew off my apology.

Quick rant: there's a big distinction between critiquing a book and bullying an author.

Lately I've seen more and more people shutting down any criticism of the All for the game series because they automatically equate it to people being assholes to Nora.

If you don't want to engage with criticism and you just want to enjoy the books, that's completely fair, but it doesn't mean that criticism is to be forbidden or ridiculed. That doesn't even mean that people being assholes to Nora is not a thing.

And being able to recognise flaws in something you like, doesn't have to diminish your enjoyment of it.

I honestly don't care much when people say "I don't understand why people say these books are badly written", cause that just means you don't know a lot about writing, and that's FINE; but when people try to say that there's nothing at all problematic about these books, that worries me, because that's about critical thinking, and about judgment of stuff that might impact you in real life.

So here's a list of problematic aspects that I've noticed, or that I've seen people point out over the years (and promptly getting shutting down and ridiculed because HOW DARE YOU talk shit about my fave?)

Torture porn: some of the most intense events are used for shock value, don't actually further the plot or impact the characters beyond what had already been established by the narrative, and that's considered problematic because it undervalues the importance of that traumatic event.

Demonization of drug use and drug users

Misrepresentation of psychiatric drugs, how they work, what they do, and how a sensible psychiatrist would assign one to a patient

Demonization of psychiatric drugs

The only POCs characters (Riko and Nicky) are the two guys that get no redemption.

Alternatively, and in opposition to the last point, people argue that Nicky's kiss with Neil was never really condemned by the narrative, making it look like "it's not that important, it was just a drunk kiss"

Except for the POCs characters, the ethnicity of anyone else is not specified because white is treated as a default.

The books messing up between psychopathic and psychosis is a huge fucking deal (I will die on this hill), considering that people with psychosis are probably one of the most discriminated groups on Earth, and the books associate them with what in the common immaginary are dangerous criminals with no empathy.

Misrepresentation of alchool abuse (as in, these characters drink their livers away every other day, and still win championship)

The ending doesn't really dwell on wether Neil understands or cares that him funding the Moryamas means that he would be funding murderers, drug trafficking, human trafficking, rape, pedophilia (you know, the stuff mafias do?).

You might not agree with the points above, not with all of them, or you might not see these traits as problematic. I know I don't agree with all of them, but the point is that a healthy fandom should be able to have a conversation without resorting to insults and ridicule.

(and since I woke up petty, the reasons why people say these books are badly written is for multiple unfinished storylines, multiple set ups are left with no payoff, there's infodumping every three pages or so, most secondary characters have little to no depth, the most important villains are killed by characters that were barely even mentioned before. If none of this bothers you or doesn't strike you as bad writing, that's fine. I still think these would be some of the same parameters by which any other book is critiqued, and All for the game is not above criticism).

Now that being said; do I love these books? Yes.

The characters work, development, the relationships between them, the pacing, and the dialogue is masterly ctafted.

Those are reasons enough for me to fall in love in a book, and it's what I care about the most.

So, I'm talking with my friends, who are relatively big into Fortnite.

And they're explaining to me what today's update did to the game (me and the one's husband who is likewise not a Fortnite person).

And like, even though I'm not a Fortnite guy, I'm listening to this, and looking at what stuff has been posted to the internet.

And like...

Holy fucking shit.

It sounds like they're aiming to gut the whole core appeal of the game.

We're all just sitting here losing our goddamn minds at everything that apparently got pushed through in the new update.

I can't believe the speed at which Epic is looking to completely shoot themselves in the foot here.

It's like they sat atop their throne, and saw Blizzard/Microsoft, EA, CDPR, Unity, etc., etc. make massive blunders that utterly alienated large chunks of their otherwise passionate fanbases.

And decided that they could do that too! "We should emulate the unpopular moves those guys are making!"

Guns/weapons in the art/assets of your 3rd-person shooter-game where people expressly are being told to kill each other in-game?

Nope. Can't have that.

Not even in personal loading screen images that literally only the user will see.

No, there's no option for "I am 18+, I'm fine if I see this imagery. Here, I can prove this."

No guns in a shooter game. Not even empty holsters.

Borderlands Psycho-Man? Nah that skin's fine.

Michael "I'm from the slasher-movie codifier" Myers? Totally fine.

Funny jellyfish man that has a bandoleer? "FUCKING RESTRICT THAT SHIT IMMEDIATELY!"

Anyway, here's our new licensed character: "Omni-Man, from the famously all-ages property, Invincible!"

They're even locking skins that came out as part of bonus content that was sent out with today's release.

They couldn't even be bothered to fix their own "controversial" art assets before releasing it.

Because that'd be the more reasonable fix, if say, you're committed to this whole "violence bad" thing in your assets. Edit all the models and skins to remove those things, not restrict the content from the users who have sunk time and money into being able to use it.

But no.

They did not do that.

As my friend pointed out - The cornerstone of their legal defense against children playing this game has been "We are aware that there are many children playing our game. However, the game is rated T. You have to have an account to play - You must be of a certain age in order to make an account. Or have a parent give explicit consent to allow you to play despite being under that age. If the child lied about their age, the account must be terminated anyway, because it's invalid. If you gave consent for your child to play without really paying attention to the content, that's on you. At any rate, we have performed our responsibility with regards to child safety."

But... If they're expressly making this game more appealing to children, while still having the rating of T, then... Aren't they themselves actively encouraging children to play their game that is not rated for children? Which kinda invalidates them saying that children should not be playing this game?

And, and! Burying the main mode (well, two mode - Standard Game and Standard Game/No Build) in a sea of uncurated fan/player-made creative mode mods?

Like, it's like they're trying to frame those modes as just another possible experience, instead of like, the core reason people play the game.

Apparently the person in-charge (they got rid a previous creative/content director, if I'm understanding properly) has said something to the effect of "The MetaVerse-type experiences are why people play this game".

Not "They're a big part of the appeal, so we want to see how we can make that better/easier to access."

Just, essentially "This is the only thing we really care about now."

Like, I'm usually pretty skeptical of fanboy-type rage. But, like, nah, I'm all-in with them on this one.

It helps that my design-sensibilities-type-rage is almost never reigned it. This is pure stupidity on many, many levels.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out going forward. Will they realize just how badly they fucked up and revert things? Or will they double-down and lose their entire audience that actually pays for things themselves, and hope that little Timmy raiding mommy and daddy's credit card will be enough to sustain them going forward?

from watching the fandom if RE3R had Nemmy be constantly on your ass I am willing to bet that it would have 100% gotten people bitching about it. with the way Nemmy works in the game how quick and nimble and violent (cat and mouse and Jill is the mouse) also Nemmy does one thing the Tyrant doesn't do Nemmy can come into the toolshed safe room (a really small room with two doors really close together then add in Nemmy I was always too scared to trigger it) and he is also in one big game of cat and mouse playing with its food (like out running him can be a bitch to do on any difficulty really but especially on harder difficulties when enemy placement is different I am not that good a player i am on a mouse and keyboard* and just not that good so i ended up watching a playthrough of nightmare and inferno before even attempting it on my own)

*part of my own critques of the game the button mashing when zombies grab you when you mash it doesn't hurt as much but it still doesn't work that well you know

The nightmares are actually something i find good i just wish they were longer and more of them (love the angst) but i understand why there wasn't more (one of my biggest gripes about them though that came about after watching someone play the entire game with a first person mod and it was really good and i wonder if the game had done well if they would have brought a official one I hope so)

i know fandom i know how fandom works and its usually annoying shitty places and youtube is the worst (so many rants about their changing the block system to hide user, how many steps it takes to block people on any device etc) offender honestly at this point looking at comments for anything is a test in how beautiful that delete account button looks (one day)

Like people act like the DLC should have been released at the same time as the base game but DLC for 7 came out in december (along with the complete gold edition if i remember right) and those dlc were actually being made at the same time as the base game it happened with RE2Rs Ghost Survivors DLC the free slightly pointless dlc came out in February a month (heck Shadows of Rose and the extra characters for mercenaries didn't come out until 2022)

people give RE3R for being shit for being short and interestingly if you look at the speedrunning community OG3 was around 40 minutes on speedrun RE3R was a little closer to 48 minutes so was RE2R time wise last time i checked

Like the game was really well paced for what it was and the developers and the debut director (who worked on the original game) wanted it streamlined with some more action and the stalker type wouldn't work as well (Peter Fabiano Den of Geek interview)

Another hamstring of the game is they went in the opposite direction of RE2R. RE2R had the unlockable unlimited weapons locked you can't use them to get speedruns and by the point you get them you have already done pretty much everything. RE3R have enough points you can have infinite rocket launcher by hardcore mode with points farming and use it whenever you want (i used it during inferno and got a s rank because after the 9th time i died in the first encounter with zombies i just went the the moment i get there i will get it out and use it. With the s rank everytime i died after that choice to use the rocket launcher i dropped a room in the hospital as Jill needless to say i shed them all)

anyways at this point and capcom for some reason do decide to bring out a "deluxe" edition or "gold" (from my understanding gold seems to be the finished edition) and i hope they do (I want to spend more time with Tyrell and Carlos) they somehow put it behind a wall where the fans that shat on it but still demanded more can't play it (not to be petty about it but i would be less petty if a certain show hadn't made the choice to add a alien in the form of a character who had been dead for years in the last 2 minutes of the entire show for reasons* for more context feel free to watch talistheintrovert's recent video if you want)

*show runner missed being called daddy showrunner knew that choices in the final season were shit (imagine RE5 where Chris kills Jill when she was a bad guy handing over evidence she was handing over to a lacky that he proceeds to leave on the floor and bounces leaving the lacky unharmed then joins up with Barry and they go on a tangent saying that there was nothing that could be done to save her. she was too far gone, she was a lost cause and basically acting as if they never cared about Jill to begin with all this happening a week after Jill sacrifices herself saving Chris from Wesker) and wanted to be praised by someone (some fans were really happy that one of the few characters who had a nice send off where they were held by their loved one as they died and was actually remembered after their deaths. they finally got closure... from an alien who outright stated they weren't that character they just looked like them for bs reasons... i would have been off anon but i also wanted to include this last bit but some of the fans for this character still scares me so anon it is)

Okay, jokes aside-! Maybe if Nemesis killed the player more often they would've defended RE3R as being the Dark Souls of RE Remakes, and the toxic culture of "git gud" guys would've worked in our favor for getting the DLC. Yes, I'm delusional.

As for the gameplay mechanics on more difficult modes and their differences, I don't pay attention to that sort of thing. If I'm provided with an easy mode, that's the only mode I'll play. If there's only one difficultly level and I have the ability to change it in order to complete a game I enjoy, I will give myself infinite ammo, infinite healing items, and increase my character's speed or strength to do so. Mods are my friend because I'm the prettiest most delicate prince on the planet. <(￣︶￣)> Yes, I'm bad at video games.

Plus, the original game when making all the right decisions is less than 4 hours. There was nothing to complain about. People think spending $60 on a game means you need 12+ hours of gameplay, and AAA game pricing has rotted people's brains in order to make that connection. These things should be cheaper and take much longer to produce and put out a FINISHED product on it's debut.

Extremely brief statement to say I know RE7 was the soft reboot but it got too much DLC I couldn't give less of a shit about, so it was pointless~.

hi i hope bringing this up on anon isnt seen as rude im just quite anxious, but ive read through your blog and posts about pro/anti ship discourse and at first i think i leaned more toward the anti-mindset bc "oh well these are bad things, i dont want to see them, they shouldn't be glorified, ect." but i do want to be open minded and listen to actual survivors/people who use this to cope and just generally broaden my understanding. I don't want more censorship or anything bc i understand what it can lead to, I think I was just operating under the mindset of "this is taboo and people just shouldn't do it, let alone enjoy doing it" but if its proven to help some people I don't wanna shame them? It is kinda my job to not let curiosity get the better of me and read things that I know might trigger me, I just never understood if there was a Good Reason for that content to exist or if it was created by/for the pleasure of actual abusers. hopefully i worded this appropriately, I just didn't want to come off as antagonistic and possibly get yelled at for being misguided ! <3

The sad truth is: you can't be 100% sure why someone is making dark content. The person writing your blorbo getting murdered could be wanting to murder themselves, they could be dealing with trauma related to a murder attempt or someone close to them getting murdered, or they could simply be a fan of true crime. Even if you were to ask them, theres a good chance they might not give you a straight awnser.

In my case, the main fucked up thing I like is abusive/toxic relationships. Catra/Scorpia, Junko/Mikan... you name it, I probably ship it. I might ship things with other problematic elements, but the abuse is what draws me to the ship, if you catch my drift. I don't go into details about it on the internet, but the reason I like toxic ships so much is because almost all of my IRL relationships have been toxic in some form or another. Those ships remind me of people I want to have in my life, but can't for my own health. They bring me comfort when I mourn those relationships like a lost limb.

Of course, this is the internet, so theres a chance that sob story might be made up so I get less anon hate.

Another thing I frequently wonder about. If I were as antis say I am: a person actively looking to abuse and groom children on the internet. (Even typing that is a big yuck! Do not like even thinking about that.) Would I openly ship pairings that would cause people to be mistrustful of me? Actual creeps would likely not be open about liking problematic stuff, because it would likely make things harder.

Not liking certian types of pairings is completely reasonable! One of the main things I'm grossed out by are teacher/student relationships. (Ex-teacher/student relationships where the student has graduated or dropped out is completely fine!) As a result, I block all ships I know to have that dynamic, and if user "Iadorewhenstudentstopteachers" follows me, I will likely block them for my own peace of mind! Proshipping doesn't mean I enjoy every ship individually, it just means (for me) that I look past the ship and to the shipper.

Rise Or Fall? The Complete Understanding Of Metaverse From The Philosophical, Cultural, Scientific And Social Perspectives             

There are many recent popular films on ‘Metaverse’: Everything Everywhere All at Once, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Free Guy.

Technology company WayRay promotes its new kind of 'human world' as this: humankind has long been fascinated with a different reality—a different plane of existence, a different identity and a new perspective. To interact with a different reality might have been a dream decades ago, but now it is as real as the phone you are holding today. The technology is now mature enough, and we can all reach into the ‘Metaverse’.

What exactly is a ‘Metaverse’? It was said, “The meta-verse ('Meta’ + ‘Universe') is a virtual ‘reality space’ on the internet where a user can create a ‘human identity’ to live, interact and play, as well as experience things that he could always do in the real world."  Metaverse will be another globe running parallel to and circumventing the existing world. The term came from a science fiction Snow Crash by Neal Stephenson in 1992 and the story depicted a virtual world on the internet that has buildings, roads, parks and shopping malls in which we could enjoy ‘a collateral life’.

It was pointed out Metaverse has 8 characteristics: (1) living under a virtual identity (2) getting along with new virtual ‘co-beings’ (3) instant and spontaneous movements by you commanding your extended identity in the virtual environment (4) an ‘as-if-real’ immersive experience in the virtual world (5) doing the great things which are humanly impossible for you to try in real life such as flying and roles transforming (6) the self-functioning economy of Metaverse by which you can become rich (7) vast supply of fascinating games and contents; and (8) co-building a ‘post-modern human civilization’.

Metaverse was made possible by scientific achievements. The advent of new technologies like 5G or 6G mobile network, Web 3.0, AI (Artificial Intelligence), VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality) and MR (Mixed Reality) solved many technical problems. The necessary equipment to operate Metaverse is expensive and includes special headset, personal computer, mobile phone, web, projection and kiosk. The ‘money’ transactions there involve innovative softwares like De-Fi (Decentralized Finance), IPFS (Inter-planetary File System) and NFT (Non-fungible Token). Mark Zuckerberg announced that ‘Meta’ (formerly known as Facebook) would soon file patent applications for a number of useful devices such as a pair of ultra-sensitive gloves to make 'Meta' bodily experience almost real. Can you afford all these?

Perhaps I am old, if not senile. The real world is already burdensome enough on a daily basis. My sure horror will come from the additional labour and toil associated with consuming a few hours per day on living in another artificial Metaverse. I get enough, if not more than enough, friends. Why should I meet more virtual people in the disguise of different identities and a lot of them may be crooks? I, nevertheless, envy the energetic ones who can handle two lives and two worlds.

I ask around to find out my friends’ interest on Metaverse. A said, “Communication technology simply makes people unnecessarily busy!” B said, “It’s cool! I want to be a powerful KOL or KOC in such a brave new world.” C said, “If I can make lots of money there, why not? I’m planning to buy some lands there.” D said, “I will be horrified when my 22-year-old girlfriend in Metaverse turns out to be an 80-years-old man!” E said, “Would it be lawful or immoral to attend a drug party in Metaverse?” F said, “How exciting it will be since I can hold a big concert there in the face of Michael Jackson?” G said, “I will transform myself into the most gorgeous girl there and attract loads of boyfriends!” H said, “I am afraid of sexual harassment. An English female beta tester was once groped by a stranger on Horizon Worlds!”

There is a famous philosophical story (莊周蝶夢)(Zhuang Zhou & Butterfly)of our ancient scholar Zhuangzi(莊子)(about 369 to 286 B.C.) that every Chinese knows. Zhuang dreamed that he was a butterfly.  He suddenly woke up and found he was still himself, solid and human. He was puzzled and left us with his great theory of Taoism. “Am I really a man that dreamed of being a butterfly or whether I am a butterfly dreaming as a man?” This great Chinese thinker tried to challenge what we took as real might be unreal and what was unreal might be real. Perhaps he was the first one who inspired us on virtual reality thousand years ago. The French philosopher R Descartes (1596-1650) said, “No certain indications by which we may clearly distinguish wakefulness from sleep.” The development of Metaverse as the popular ‘second reality’ will lead more people to pursue a hot debate: can young people in the 23rd century choose to live in a virtual world of butterflies and refuse to live in a human world?

The other amazing Chinese ancient fairy tale protagonist is ‘The Monkey King’. It is based on the ancient story Journey to the West(西遊記) about a famous monk Xuanzang (玄奘) (602-664) who travelled on foot from China to India for the authentic Buddhist scriptures, escorted by Monkey King(孫悟空). This monkey was clever and rebellious. He acquired an immortal life and could transform him into seventy-two different identities in different situations at the same time. Riding clouds in the sky as a vehicle (Monkey King today will probably use Internet as his vehicle), he was able to travel 108,000 miles by a single somersault to meet friends. Would the Metaverse users dream of being a butterfly or Monkey King which were all old prophecies of ‘virtual reality’.

Many predict that your digital existence will become more important than your physical life. In the Metaverse, your life is fascinating with all that you can enjoy. But on earth, you may be lonely and miserable. Virtual life may be joyful. A real life can be sad. Nevertheless, the more humans lose themselves in a non-existent world, the more Artificial Intelligence technology will control us in future. I do not want to live in the virtual world because it will not give me a nice haircut! Do you? Happiness boils down to simplicity.

coding adventures part++

it's been a little over a month since the last one. i'm almost done with building some basic stuff including comments!

last time comments were completely non-existent. i had already picked a text editor which i wanted to use, but it was so hard to understand how to configure it, so i switched to tinmyce.

i added it to the page and started figuring out what i wanted to do with the design:

i immediately somehow made the toolbar become a rainbow that changes colours, and decided to keep it that way 😂

took me a while to figure out how to implement character count, submit button and notify button all within the editor's toolbar. but honestly, tinymce is so good, their docs describe pretty much everything i needed, so it was only a matter of learning what it can offer and figuring out how i could use it.

what you see above was just a bunch of lorem ipsum coded directly into the page. so the next step was to write the whole post -> save -> display pipeline and show some actual comments.

why use lorem ipsum when you can adfadsfsdfsdadf ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

then i did the thing which i always wanted to add: my own emotes! btw, we use all of these plague doctors and others in my discord, and i keep drawing more and more of them.

and then i tried to use them along with a better emoji font, and uhh

oops xD yes, you can stretch an image, even an emote, but you can't unstretch it back and return it to its original proportions.

figured out how to ban people, because honestly, no comment form should be released in the wild without the ability to restrict annoying users, you know? x)

and another thing which i figured out: how to make emotes big if there's no text next to them. same as in discord. took me about half an hour ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

now i'm fixing bugs and adding some small unseen things here and there.

the next step will be uploading all of this to the live website and testing there.

and after that.. whooo boooy, do i have so many more features planned. just some of them off the top of my head:

display names. that bit in lighter text before "@ yourname". i want to let people set a different name.

upload your own avatar.

badges. currently only a moderator has a badge. i want to add badges for people who support me on Boosty too.

non-email notifications. i get only 1000 free emails from mailgun, and we could quickly run out if everyone subscribes to reply notifications. however, i learnt to keep my expectations low, so this may never happen due to low engagement (sadge). some non-email options via bots could be: discord, telegram.

ability to keep track of your own comments.

profile pages to look at other people's profiles?

linking tumblr/discord/etc/whatever. still need to think how i could use that. maybe link your tumblr, so that people could see your blog? or for alt login options.

btw, none of this will be ever released as a stand-alone piece of software. it's heavily linked to my current cms framework, so i can't be arsed to separate it, and also i have no idea what i'm doing 😎

Anime I Judged too Early

I got this idea from user @ avvviso!

Here are some anime I ended up really liking despite being skeptical/judgmental of them before watching. Let’s get started!

Spy x Family

This might be a shocking first choice because so many people have been raving about this show recently, but due to all the hype I was skeptical that it was just another overrated comedy that had no substance. I was totally proven wrong by the first episode, it really is a sweet funny show that has good characters and an interesting plot. I don’t think it’s the best anime of all time but it’s definitely worth a watch if you enjoy light, cute comedies with a fun concept.

Dr. Stone

I had a friend recommend this show to me years ago, and I was pretty hesitant to try it because I don’t really care for isekai (which this show... technically is?) plus I am not a big science person, but after watching a few episodes I really appreciated how interesting and funny the show is, even if you don’t care for science. I genuinely learned a lot and I was on the edge of my seat. (I was also judging the character designs pretty hard but you get used to it/even grow to like them)

Haikyuu!!

So for years online, all I saw about this show was a looooot of ship content. Which is fine, it’s just not my cup of tea and gave me the false impression that the show wouldn’t have a strong plot. This is my bad for judging a show from its online presence, but I was very pleasantly surprised when I actually gave it a shot and realized how emotional and deep the stories in Haikyuu actually were. And yes, even though I don’t usually ship stuff, after watching the show I understand where the most popular ships are coming from and why they’re so beloved. But the show has a lot more facets to it that I didn’t know about.

Madoka Magica

I had been fortunate enough to avoid any spoilers about Madoka Magica for years, but because of that I almost had the opposite problem where I had actually no clue what it was about and genuinely thought it was some cute Sailor Moon type anime or something. I had no idea that in reality it was a very dark, surrealist show that was entirely up my alley. I really am glad I gave it a chance, because it’s in my top 10 anime of all time now.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

I’ve said before on this blog that I am not a mecha anime person, and since that was all I knew about Evangelion, for years I was like yeah no thanks. I didn’t know that it was intended to be a subversion of that genre until I had so many friends recommending it that I couldn’t take it anymore and just gave it a shot. I wouldn’t say this is one of my favorite anime ever or one I even love a lot, but I appreciate what it’s trying to do thematically and I definitely misjudged what the show would actually be about.

As a counterpoint to this post, there have been tons of shows where I pre-judged them and was completely right, but imo all shows are worth a try, even if that try is only watching 15 minutes of the pilot.

I know some people have a 3 episode rule; for me, if I can’t make it through the first episode I generally will just give up, but if I can do that much I will push through to 2 and by then I’ll know if I want to continue the show or not. Just in case people were curious about my process.

Since then, I decided to take action and do some self reflection. I'm currently still struggling with making new friends out of the bubble that initially gave me anxiety, but It's working nonetheless. That's not why I'm here, though. I'm currently doubting whether or not I am truly an INFJ (I'm between INFJ and ISFJ), because what I thought were "hunches" might've been just my anxiety. I'll provide further examples below.

For INFJ:

Ni: I like to understand things in depth, I've always liked. The whole contemplative thing does seem to fit me kind of well, although I don't have the "Ni hunches" as often as others say they do. Thinking about implications and consequences is a constant state of mine. Comparing me to the ESFP I talked about previously; he switches goals and decides to talk to other people/do different things so quickly it amazes me. Honestly, I wish I was like that because I'm constantly asking myself "if I do X, then they make think Y, but wait…", although that might be my anxiety because it isn't my initial reaction (I'll talk abt this afterwards). I like to contemplate and understand because it allows me to perceive how the outcome will be.

Fe: I value others deeply, so much so that I can just switch my political opinions based on who I'm talking to because I'm afraid it might cause trouble. Being friends with everyone and having a big and reliable social network has always been a dream of mine, but I'm not action-based enough to dedicate myself to that, sadly. I always feel a need to people-please, but there's always a regret that comes with it. I want to be myself, but at the same time, it conflicts with the environment and I just feel completely lost (which is why I think I might have Fi).

Ti: Tertiaty Ti is a bit tough to talk about because I don't use it as often, and I'm not old enough to make it as conscious as I'd like to. I can see it in my life when I analyze others. For example, whenever I talk to someone, my mind is always looking for social cues and slight body language I logically interpret freely. I don't really feel the need to conform my thinking into a "social" box like Te users. For instance, when my INTJ friend sets her mind to something she literally never changes her mind and will try to prove her point until death. I'm way more flexible and open to new thoughts.

Se: Well, this is where my doubt comes from, mainly. I can't really distinguish Ni-Se from anxiety, because my anxiety already steems from thinking the ISTP/ESFP both don't like me. It already drives me to a passive stance because I fear that they spread rumors about me, or constantly shit on me, despite having no evidence besides body language, which, once more, may be biased considering my feelings. Some evidence that does support inferior Se is maybe my struggle with just letting things flow, but it might be anxiety. It's hard for me to, for example, just make jokes without thinking: "is it good? does it suck? should I say it? maybe not…" or straight up hugging people. I always wait for them to do it first. All of that is cuz I don't want to ruin our bond.

For ISFJ:

Si: I like the comfort zone. I find it hard to go out of my way to do things because the unknown makes me scared. For example, inviting friends over to my house, or going to parties always makes me scared because who knows what might happen there. Maybe our friendship isn't high enough to invite that person yet, maybe I'm going to bother my friends at parties because I'll be following them all the time and I might feel left out like I usually do. In any case, I'm not sure, because most of these reasonings also sorta make sense with INFJ/anxiety. I'm also not big on detail, I usually forget birthdays, etc. In any case, the examples I provided are just outcomes I can see happening in my head.

Ne: Once again, conflicts with anxiety. The party example, again. It's not that I fear the unknown, or I'm not optimistic, it's just that the pros are shadowed by my fear of being left out, unwanted. I want to help people, but I'm always terrified by the possibility that they don't like me, or don't want me because of evidence that some people don't really want to befriend me. It's not really evidence, to be honest, but it's what my mind convinces itself. The ESFP friend has so many people he knows and can befriend others so easily, but I can't. I'm always picky and scared of making the wrong choices like saying the wrong thing, or not being the "ideal" friend others want.

This is all so chaotic in my head because I know people want honest and authentic friends, but I always keep my real self to myself out of fear of having to make new friends all over again or having people that don't accept me because I don't fit the "popular" standarts. I'm pretty sure this points to high Fe, but I'd like your insight on this. Thanks for reading!

The case you've tried to make for ISFJ is very weak and does not move beyond a very stereotypical understanding of Si and Ne, if not outright contradicting their existence. This is enough to convince me that you aren't ISFJ.

Literally one of the worst tv ships I've ever had to sit through. I get why Tim did this to us - because Gina needed to have another relationship to show us that Ricky is who she wants/needs - but literally he should have used a different character. Honestly, cannot understand anyone who ships them (it is so clear to me that they are just disgruntled r*nis or elton fans) because they have literally no chemistry whatsoever. They don't even have development or good building towards their couple. All the problems of this ship were laid out clearly in season 2 and elton's behaviour is not that inconsistent with how badly he treated gina in the s2 finale. They literally had clown music over their big moment (which wasn't even shown lol) and act like surprised pikachu that this plot device relationship ended the way a plot device relationship would. Sofia does her best to try and bring energy and chemistry but it just completely falls flat every time.

Genuinely, I would have preferred Gina to just date some random new character (ala lily) rather than elton, bc maybe people would have been less vicious to her when the relationship inevitably ended. Plus maybe there could have been some chemistry there. Like, the fact that Jack/Gina is a way better ship than pw and they only had 1 episode says literally all of it.

The majority of the fans are such creeps about Sofia, and honestly, most of them come across as Gina haters. They either hate the girl and blame her for everything (even though she's done pretty much nothing wrong), or they weirdly sexualise her and honestly they need to stop. I saw one tweet saying 'that elton liked gina when she was innocent unlike ricky' in reference to gina's prom outfit and lets not even get into that granola user. They seriously need help, because wtf are these kind of comments about an 18 year old. I block most of the creeps on sight these days. I submitted an anonymous response to the feedback thread and they chose to lump it together with others of the same nature. While I understand the reasoning, the point of the submission was not only for staff to see it but also for other users, so I will be posting it here in its entirety minus a short preamble.

Some of the concerns in it were partially addressed, although why did we only have one day of limitations? Put daily limits for the duration. The first day had so much less stress and panic and disappointment than the first round and helped lead to a calmer second day even. Extend that.

Most important for everyone, especially those with gambling issues, to see is the final paragraph, which they did not address at all. Hopefully reading it helps those that have gambling problems at least take a step back and think before dropping the money. Here is the text of my submit as it was submitted, minus preamble:

First, I want to say that I love this thread and the transparency we're getting from staff lately. It's extremely refreshing and I have felt much better about a lot of things because of it.

Unfortunately, the latest responses here to the grab bags and CS issues were extraordinarily disappointing to me. Feel free to break this up into multiple posts if it's easier that way.

Firstly, the grab bags: Why are we refusing to limit them? I don't think anyone is asking for it to be an account limit overall, just a daily limit per account. This allows a wider range of people to purchase the bags and "spreads the wealth" as it were, as opposed to a single small group of people getting the whole release. Splitting it into 12 hours apart isn't going to help anything because what happens if it's 2am and 2pm for someone? One of those they'll be asleep and the other they'll likely be at work. They shouldn't have to compromise sleep or work to get these bags. Limit them to 3 or even 5 per account per day. You'll ultimately still get the same number of sales, just spread over time instead of all at once. It's different from all other CS items in that it's limited by number of items, not by date, meaning there is a finite amount that can be bought and that introduces anxiety and stress and panic-buying. Ultimately it is the individual's job to manage that, of course, but why encourage it? Is there a fear that people will buy less because they aren't rush-buying? Is there some other legitimate concern? To me it seems like spreading that purchasing power out will do nothing but give more members of the community access to a wonderful feature while, as an added side effect, make the site less antagonistic toward those with these kinds of spending issues.

Secondly, the gambling discussion: You're right, Res isn't rated by the ESRB, but it's still targeted towards kids (or at least that's how it's always been pitched). We allow users under 13 to sign up and access most features. To say that eggs as a whole aren't RNG and in a way simulated gambling is wildly irresponsible. Each color is essentially a "skin" in video game terms. Which "skin" you get is completely RNG and there is nothing you can do to influence it in any way. With regular eggs that's fine, with CS eggs, that is categorically paying with real money. Yes, you can get CS eggs without paying real money, but you can speed up the process with real money. NCJBs are another example of a money-gained RNG gamble. Much of this site is based on RNG in all honesty, but most of it has nothing to do with real money and therefore isn't a big deal. Saying "you're buying an Omni egg, you know you'll get an Omni" is like saying "You're buying a lootbox filled with skins, you know you'll get a skin when you use it." While that is true, you don't know which skin you're getting. Putting the gambling portion one step removed from the purchasing step and then claiming this means there is no gamble of any kind is wrong. This loops back around to my previous statement of why these grab bags were different from the eggs. The eggs are a consistent thing that people can take the time to consider. The grab bags are limited in number and there's nothing stopping people from impulse-dropping $10k on what is, in fact, a complete gamble (you know you're getting a squishy. Is it a mythical? A CS? Uldavian? What color is it?) Keeping the RNG aspect is one thing, the site is built around it at this point, but not only not limiting it but then outright stating that it's not a "gamble" feels insulting to users.
