Young Justice Ep 1 - 6 Review
I started watching Young Justice for the first time. Like I always heard about the show but I never actually watched it other than a few clips. I watched Justice League when I was little but I don't remember it that well and I'm getting a little tempted to watch it but first I'm gonna finish Young Justice. Tbh, I only actually started watching it cause of all the thirsty edits of Nightwing on TikTok. The animators knew what they were doing with him but he hasn't showed up yet so I'll be waiting patiently for him.
Episodes Review
So far the episodes are perfect as usual to any normal cartoon show. Nah but I actually miss the old cartoons like Ultimate Spiderman or the Avengers Assemble cartoons. I've always been obsessed with that style of animation. It's not too anime looking but also not too realistic. Just perfect. The plot and story line is also really good. I kinda regret not watching this as a child but then again, I always did rewatch the old cartoons I grew up watching.
Character Reviews:
Robin
I love his character. I've always loved him in the old Batman series (I gotta rewatch that too). Nah but I forgot he was so young. I thought he'd be 15 but he's 13 and Kid Flash is 15. Nah but he's so smart for a 13 year old. He knows how to hack shit and is literally a mini version of Batman. One thing I don't like is how he keeps wearing shades when he's not in his costume and there's nothing wrong with that but I wanna see his eyes. Like I know what he looks like but I still wanna see his eyes.
Kid Flash
I screamed when I saw him and Flash in the first episode. I literally love the CW Flash series so seeing them show up made me so happy. And I love how Wally is literally like a 15 year old. Sassy and playful. When I first saw him without the costume and mask, I freaked out cause he had freckles! He looks so adorable with freckles. I also love how he flirts with Megan. It's so cute and funny.
Aqualad
Ok when I first saw him I gasped. Like have u all seen this fine ass man. And the way he talks 😩. It's so soothing and calming. I also knew he would be the leader cause leadership radiated off of him. I'm glad they ended up making him the leader officially but damn, he's fine as fuck.
Superboy
When I first saw him in the tube thingy I was in shock. He's so handsome compared to Superman like damn. But one thing I don't like about him is how he's full of rage. He's technically the Hulk but DC version. There's nothing wrong with his rage but he just seems to not think and let his emotions control him. I also didn't like how mad he got at Megan when she read his mind by accident to comfort him that they'll find a human name for him. Like boy chill. She's being nice and you're acting like a little bitch. I also feel bad for him cause so far Superman has been avoiding him and leaving him alone. He's not acknowledging Superboy making him feel as though he's not worthy. But I also understand why Superman is doing that since this is technically his son but he obviously doesn't want to think that. I hope Superman helps him out though.
Miss Martian
I like her especially how she's the first female member in the Young Justice. But what I don't like about her is how she likes Superboy. Idk but I don't see any chemistry between them. Like I get she has a crush on him and it should stay like that in my opinion. I don't want them 2 to end up together cause I really don't see it. Also, I didn't like how in one of the episodes the members were treating her as if she's not ready. Superboy was especially being extra rude to her, that's why I don't want those 2 to get together.
Artemis
Ever since I saw her in the intro, I've been in love with her cause I knew she'd be related to Arrow somehow and I love Arrow, especially the Arrow CW show. Idk y but I thought she'd be serious like Arrow but I realized in the cartoon Arrow isn't that serious but also a little playful where she is similar in that way. I also love how she and Kid Flash argue like little teenagers. Tbh, I ship those 2. I actually hope they end up together.
Roy
I had no idea he was Roy but his personality is exactly the same as it was in the Arrow CW series. I want more of him. I love how he stands up to the adults and started being a solo hero. I need more of him.
Arrow
I know he's not in Young Justice but I love him so much. Like I love whenever he and Batman show up in the episodes like ahhh.
Batman
Omg I forgot how cool Batman looked when he had his whole cloak down on him. Idk y but I was always obsessed with Batman instead of Superman. I liked Superman but I loved Batman more. I love his personality and monotonous tone. So good.
Well that's all I have to rant about Young Justice for now. So stay tuned for more updates about Young Justice.

Who would be DC’s Spider-Man equivalent?
Just something to think about as Spider-Man with Superman and Batman are the most popular
Marvel kinda has some equivalents for Superman and Batman that have more similarities and discussion I feel
So I was curious who would be or should be the Spider-Man equivalent of DC comics
Black Spider
To get it out the way the Black Spider from Young Justice shown above is definitely the DC version of Spider-Man but they did the thing where he’s a villain which I think is cool but I’m more talking about the role of Spider-Man not just the literal power set which Black Spider definitely has
The hero candidates: (imo)
Nightwing
Blue Beetle
Sideways
Robin
Static Shock
Nightwing
The first Robin, the most recognizable outside the Robin costume
The one that has had the most success as a solo hero from the ones I listed
Has some similarities to Spider-Man such as the acrobatics, young hero, complicated romance life etc
The cons of Nightwing is that he despite the relative success doesn’t have a rogues gallery, no real stand out stories, to tied into the Batman character and world and despite the fan base loving him hasn’t really affected pop culture too much
Nightwing is a character that on paper would be a great equal but due to things not really in the characters control it’s hard to pick him
Blue Beetle
Has the bug theme, has stand alone qualities, young hero, rising popularity
The Jaime Reyes iteration has grown a lot over the years
He obviously existed before but Young Justice made him more known along with other characters from the show like Miss Martian and Artemis
So he’s been in multiple cartoons comics and is now kinda seen as the cyborg replacement in the Teen Titans since Cyborg is now more Justice League now
Blue beetle shares a lot of the same problems as Nightwing, despite the relative success doesn’t have much individual story to stand out, no rogues gallery, the scarab backstory and general mantle of blue beetle isn’t solid yet
The popularity can always change with the new movie coming out as the fact Blue Beetle got a movie before Nightwing, Static, and just other Justice league members like Martian Manhunter, Cyborg, Green Arrow etc does show there’s potential
I do think it relies on the movie, as if it excels then it could have a Harley Quinn effect
And if it bombs could relegate the character back to just purely for comics and cartoons
And just normal would just mean they might try again a decade from now
He’s not a clone of Spider-Man as in many aspects he has a lot in common with other marvel heroes like Iron Nan for example but he does have a lot of the same similarities without the exact same power set
Sideways
So this was the literal Spider-man equivalent they tried to make back in like 2018
I don’t know much about him but it seems that it just didn’t catch on as they probably would of hoped
Other characters like Damage who was seen as the Hulk equivalent seemed more relevant
He does look the most like Spider-Man and from what I understand dies gave a similarish story
I can see in the future for those obscure characters that James Gunn likes to highlight Sideways being chosen as a way to either capitalize or play off the recent Spider-Man success
Otherwise I can’t see it unless some new project makes him relevant again as even being seen as the equivalent his role in DC comics itself isn’t comparable to Spider-Man in Marvel
Robin
So this is just the mantle of Robin and not any specific Robin like Dick Grayson/Nightwing
Robin is the most famous sidekick and more famous the most heroes
Even in the DC/Marvel crossover comic the Robin (which was Tim Drake at the time iirc) was paired with Spider-Man making them seem like the equivalents
And yes based on popularity Robin is probably the closest outside of Batman and Superman to rival Spider-Man
The catch is even moreso than Nightwing Robin is too tied to Batman to have Robin as the Spiderman equivalent as Robin comics don’t stand out on their own and many of the robins individual stories shine when they take up their other mantle (Nightwing, Red Hood, Black Bat etc)
Even in a more Robin focused stories it still has Batman majorly in some way
For Robin they excel in team settings such as Teen Titans, Young Justice, Outsiders etc as they usually have the traits of a leader and etc so if counting some of the team stuff as Robin stories could help but then it’s like debating Justice League or Teen Titans against the Avengers or X-Men
So I think if they could make Robin more solo and it excel then the highest probability otherwise could be the least due to being the permanent sidekick in eyes of most people
Static Shock
So this is a interesting one imo
If this was back in the 2000s even early 2010s I would say would be the obvious choice
The success from the Tv show basically made Static the DCAU Spiderman as he was the young hero amongst the adults and had the quips, could beat them at times, had the closely connected rogues gallery, etc etc
Popularity not as high as JL and JLU but the connection to them, Batman Beyond and etc definitely made most around that time at least aware of the character
The problem is that due to mostly legal ownership stuff because Static wasn’t technically DC (kinda like the Hulk with the MCU stuff) they never got to truly capitalize off that success and when they finally got to do something with the character it didn’t excel
And they thrown him on teams like the titans but again never stood out whether due to writing as a whole or they just didn’t utilize his character
Even in the current young Justice show, they had a decent story line with the runaways and him then he’s just another member of the team and might as well just be anyone with Lightning based powers
Despite all that Static is compared to Spider-Man even in more recently memory Miles Morales Spider-Man due to being black and having electric powers shown in their death battle
So in a sense he already is the Spiderman equivalent lol
So who is the Spider-Man Equivalent in DC comics?
Robin I guess lol
He’s the most popular and at the end of the day that’s kinda what matters as otherwise the equivalent would be a Sideways or Black Spider from Young Justice lol
And things like Teen Titans might as well be Robin stories at certain points
In an ideal scenario Blue Beetle or Static Shock would be the equivalent
Both are young, non white, non side kicks (mostly) heroes that has a different power set from the Trinity
Batman no powers, gadgets intelligence more vigilante
Wonder Woman, some magic, some godly abilities, weapons more ethereal
Superman, alien superhuman abilities the main super hero
Blue Beetle would be the more tech based one along with some alien depending on Superman and the iteration
Static Shock the more meta human based one
All they need is one comic run to be revered and then have it adapted to an animated movie or something and I feel the buzz will eventually catch on
So yea I think the young comic book character that a majority knows and has a big part in their universe would be Robin
For the potential growth into being that type of hero and notoriety: Blue Beetle and Static Shock
Literal look a like: sideways
And comic success: Nightwing
Who would you pick?

As someone, who's favorite character is Dick Grayson and I find often reasons to be angry at or even hate the batfam, can I ask you to rank them from your most preferred character to the one you dislike the most?
Haha you feel my pain! Yeah being a Dick Grayson fan is rough when it comes to the batfamily. Let's see if I can rank them for ya!
1. Dick Grayson
Of course my favorite batfamily member and my favorite fictional character of all time! I tend to really like characters I feel like I would like if they were a real person and Dick fits that perfectly. Not only that I feel like he works as a character more than so many others. He's Batman and Superman without their narrative problems (being to powerful, not able to be an underdog, limited story potential, lack of fun). So honestly I think he's DC's best protagonist. Likeable, admirable, fun, sexy and exciting and engaging. Dick has this energy to his character that leaps off the page and it just pulls you to him.
2. Barbara Gordon
I love Barbara so much and really always longed for better stories for her. She's someone (like Dick) that you really feel like you would like and admire even if they were real. She works amazing as a character and could fill almost any role you want for her. So versatile. Personally though I think she's pretty hard headed and can come off as very condescending. I feel she's kinda bad at thinking about others feelings because she's just so in touch with her own. Not a total bad thing but something that can be a bit annoying.
3. Bruce Wayne
As I get older I find myself amazed at how much more interesting the rest of the batfamily is compared to Bruce. He's like our window into these more likeable characters lol. That sounds bad. I like Bruce because he's such a pure idea. You always understand his actions through the person you know him to be. He's such a clear understandable character that you can instantly spot something he says or does that's off because "Bruce wouldn't say or do that". He has a consistent voice. As a person? He's infuriating. He's hard headed and he expects his family to take sacrifices for him just because it's what he wants. He's been especially terrible to Dick but in all its consistent with the person I know him to be.
4. Cassandra Cain
Cassandra just like Bruce is a very boiled down consistent character. And she's best girl! So strong and so caring she really is a lot like Dick. More than a lot of other batfamily members (minus the quips). And she just has such an interesting backstory and themes of her own. I can't find things to dislike about her. The only thing is that I'm just more likely to read other batfamily characters because sometimes she can be a bit one note.
5. Damian Wayne
Damian is a mistake. He should've never been invented. As a character his entire purpose is "what if batman had a son?" But he does. He had three of them already. Damian's existence actively makes the batfamily worse because it takes from all his brothers relationship with Bruce in a "well those weren't his REAL sons" sort of way. This was the moment there became too many batman characters. Does he work as a Robin? Yes. Does he work as a Robin as well as Tim? No. So why is Damian higher on the list than Tim? Because Damian breaks everything around him but isn't broken as a character. As a person though I like Damian a lot. His demeanor as a mean kid is pretty charming and it makes it really mean something when he progresses and is actually a really good person.
6. Tim Drake
Poor Tim. He's too old to be Robin and too young to be his own man. Red Robin and Drake both didn't really work well as identities and at this point he might just be the character with the most unused potential. It sucks because this character used to work so well. He works as THE NEW ROBIN! A Robin for the new age! Kinda spiderman-like. Learning from the successes and mistakes of his predecessors and making his way to be Robin the way he wants to be. It works so well! He's so likeable and charming and he fits the role so well. Sadly he doesn't have it anymore. Big oof. Sorry Tim.
7. Jason Todd
Jason is a broken character. And I don't mean that in a "he's so broken and sad!" Kind of way. I literally mean he doesn't work in a storytelling sense. He's incredibly inconsistent. A muddled character because people wanted to have their cake and eat it too. They want Jason to be a killer who hunts criminals and is against the batfamily but they also want him to be a part of the batfamily and to have his murders overlooked. It makes no sense unless you want everyone involved to look like an idiot. Look guys I know the animated movie was good but that character that was in that movie is only worth telling that one story with. Keeping him as the killer villian would be to tell that story over and over again (like we've been doing forever) and making him a proper batfamily member would take everything his fans like about him away from him. Jason isn't who fans want him to be either. He isn't charming or funny or sexy like Dick. He's pretty unlikeable and the parts you like about him is the parts he got from Dick (and Dick does better). I know I sound like I hate Jason but I really don't want to. It's just the honest truth.
8. Stephanie Brown
How dare I! Stephanie is best girl! She really is. I think she's pretty fun and likeable. I never dislike seeing her or anything. I like her spoiler costume a lot. So why is she so low on the list? Because I don't know much about her. Something really just stopped me from connecting to this character and I don't know why? Unlike Damian or Jason I have zero strong feelings for Stephanie in either direction and that's almost as bad as if I disliked her. I don't know there just hasn't been a hook for me to feel like she's worth taking a dive into. I can tell at the very least she is a better character than Jason but aside from that I can't say I like her. I have no attachment to her.

This is not my usual political post. Well, kinda. But not in the broad, big picture Trump-supporter-but-not-a-Republican kind of way. This is smaller, and more relevant to my personal experience. That said, it’s going to be long and rambling as fuck. A few of my followers it will relevant to; most not. Those who are not, if you stick around, you will find it’s relevant only in terms of who I am and how I got here (unless you are also a fan).
Anyone who’s bothered to go far back enough in my blog’s history will note that, when I started, I was a left-leaning libertarian who still liked Doctor Who, Star Wars and even Steven fucking Universe. But also, a DC comics fan. The DC fan part is a long rambling story by itself, but I’ll summarize by saying that I started out being a Robin fan, but wound up being mostly a Terra fan. Yes, comic book Tara Markov, mostly the good girl 90s version commonly called Terra II. I won’t go into THAT whole history either, but its relevant background.
I haven’t read comics on a regular/consistent basis since 2007. Occasionally since then I’ve read arcs or issues because of certain specific characters, but on the whole my comic habit stopped cold. I kept waiting for heroes to come back. Because before comics even went “woke”, there was a different kind of woke problem happening, that went all the back to the early 70s; namely, treating the characters like crap. Heroes weren’t allowed to be heroes anymore. They were victims, or villains, or merely humans with powers and/or a costume. And if a hero WAS a hero for real, then it was treated as a joke, which in its own way was even worse.
So when I first saw this headline https://cosmicbook.news/att-closing-dc-comics-5g-ethan-van-sciver I thought the “5G” meant the next generation of internet servers, not the characters themselves (the TLDR version is that if the next “fifth generation” comics fail to sell, DC will no longer be published. Oh, they’ll still make the movies and cartoons and what not, but the comics themselves will no longer be published.) When I saw that it actually meant that they would shut down the comics entirely, I was like “….What?”
Part of me wanted to look on it the same way I do on the self destruction of Star Wars and Doctor Who (and in terms of narrative, Steven Universe, which was always flawed in terms of the political preconceptions of Rebecca Sugar and her cronies but nevertheless managed to produce an old-fashioned, true hero within their own political context, but in the “Future” final season going on now managed to screw even that up). I was glad to let Star Wars and Doctor Who go. I wish The Prequels were the last Star Wars we ever got; I wish that, while Capaldi had still been cast as the Doctor, he’d had worthwhile Doctor Who to be in. Because what he got was not Doctor Who in any substantial way. I was glad to watch the Disney Sequels and Chibnall/Whitaker crash and burn. Good riddance.
But I honestly thought that comics would, in a market way, fix themselves; that the publishers would finally go, “Oh right, you wanted Superheroes, not woke quotas filled.” Instead I got “We give up.”
I….just honestly don’t get why AT&T/Warner Bros don’t go back to superheroes that are freaking Marketable! And if you want to have Black heroes (or whatever else) that’s fine; but there’s a right way and a wrong way to do it. The right way is to introduce the character to the mythos, let them build their own story within it, and THEN have them take over the title role a few years down the line, say at least 5 years. That’s why nobody batted an eye when John Stewart was the Green Lantern in the Justice League cartoon; because the guy had been around for decades by then. As opposed to just randomly introducing a black Batman out of thin air.
But again, wokeness is only half the problem. The other half is treating the characters like shit. And this problem goes back to 1971 when DC decided that Roy Harper was a heroin addict (because don’t do drugs, kids!) and a few months later Marvel decided to break Gwen Stacey’s neck (because realism, kids!) And it’s never stopped. Tara Markov bringing the roof down on her own head, irredeemable. Jason Todd gets his brains bashed in by the Joker, then later on coming back as a third rate Punisher wannabe. Superman dies. Batman gets his back broken and replaced by another Punisher wannabe. (Yes, both of those were fixed….eventually. But they were never good ideas in the first place!) Doc Ock in Spiderman’s head. Captain America a secret Hydra agent all along. On and on and on and on and ON. STOP IT! STOP!
So why in the world don’t they just start the comics over at zero, with the iconic heroes, and *let them actually BE HEROES?!?* Not comedy relief camp like that Batman 60s tv show, but just the straight up Hero’s Journey, with modifications made for each character? And as noted, you can bring in your black/Hispanic/whatever heroes gradually in a way that everyone would accept.
Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater. Instead, DO THE JOB RIGHT. It’s not that hard. It really isn’t.

Favorite ship? Artist? Writer? Fanfic writer? Fanartist? Movie? First fandom? Favorite batfam character? Do you read comics? Do you like pre-n52 or n52? Rebirth or n52? Young justice oe justice league unlimited? Btas or smtas?Favorite color? If you had total control over DC comics what would you do? Are you also a marvel fan? X-men or teen Titans? Justice league or avengers? Favorite animated super hero show? Do you like the DCEU?
Okay, wow! Let’s see…
As far as shipping goes, I’m not a huge shipper, though I do have a distinct fondness for DickBabs.
My favorite artist is Dustin Nguyen, hands down. Lil’ Gotham is a gift to mankind!
Favorite writer is probably either Greg Wiseman, because Young Justice, or Chuck Dixon, because Birds of Prey. I’m not quite consistent enough with my comics reading (because what is this “money” you speak of?) to really be able to answer this well, sadly.
Fanfic writer? I have several, Quinis (goes by @quinquinis on tumblr) on AO3, Glimare on ff.net, Irnan, Kieron_ODuibhir (who has a lot of amazing stuff that I haven’t read all of because I can’t handle it emotionally.) There’s more but they are probably the top four.
I don’t know that I have a particular favorite fanartist.
Movie, the animated Batman: Under the Red Hood and Wonder Woman in no particular order.
My first fandom was actually The Chronicles of Narnia, back before I even knew what fandom was. My first online fandom was Harry Potter and my first DC fandom was the Bat Family.
My favorite Bat Fam character is and always will be Dick Grayson.
I do read comics when I can, which is not as often as I would like, sadly. :(
I prefer Pre-boot to Nu52, and I haven’t read enough Rebirth to really gicve an opinion. I will say that I am a huge fan of some storylines introduced as part of the Nu52 *coughCourtOfOwlscough* and I tend to pick and chose what canon I use. I’m flexible.
Young Justice all the way. I do enjoy JLU though. But my heart will always be with YJ. I haven’t seen much of either Batman or Superman’s animated series but I do enjoy them both. Probably BtAS though, if I had to choose.
My favorite color is any and every shade of blue.
I would do so much if I had total control. Babs would be Oracle and Stephanie would be Batgirl. Decades of character development would still be in place. Dick Grayson and Damian Wayne would interact a lot more. Jason would quote Shakespeare and Classic Literature in about 60% of his dialogue. Cass would talk again…I could go on. (All that being said, I don’t think they are doing a terrible job for the most part. The other-world storyline with Dick destroying everyone definitely wouldn’t be happening though.)
I am also a Marvel fan, mostly of Spiderman, X-men, and Hawkeye.
Between Teen Titans and X-Men…It depends on which incarnation of each you are talking about. Because I have a special soft place in my heart for each set of the originals (Cyclops, Marvel Girl, Angel, Iceman, Beast and Robin, Speedy, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, Aqualad) The same really goes for the Avengers and Justice League. It depends on the lineup.
Young Justice is my favorite animated super-hero show. Other favorites are X-Men: Evolution, Teen Titans, The Batman, Justice League/Justice League Unlimited.
Overall, I do enjoy the DCEU, there are ups and downs. The Justice League Trailers look fantastic, Wonder Woman was so beautiful I splurged and saw it twice in theaters, I actually do like Man of Steel (it isn’t perfect but what is) and despite any problems I have with Ben Affleck himself, I think he actually makes a fantastic Batman. I’m simultaneously thrilled about and dreading the Nightwing movie (no matter how badly they butcher it, at least there will be Nightwing merchandise! Just please don’t use the red costume.) and I am so furious that they gave Batgirl to Joss Whedon. #BabsDeservesBetter
Thank you for the ask! I hope my ridiculously long answer is acceptable.
