Me: hates the Snowgrave route so fucking much, gets sick to my stomach at the thought of playing it or even watching someone play it
Also me: obsessively looks at Snowgrave fanart and endlessly theorizes on what happens post-Snowgrave, thinks about the Kris-Player, Noelle-Player, Kris-Noelle and Susie-Noelle dynamics for that route

So glad you decided to play Undertale! I think it would really suit you so I’m so happy you got into it! Could I have your thoughts about the game? I would LOVE to hear them. I’m ALL for long essays and rants, that’s my jam, but even just a small review from you would make me ecstatic!
Tumblr media
Alright alright alright alright.
I am ecstatic that someone asked because I have a lot to say AS ALWAYS.
I’m gonna try to keep this readable, I swear. Will add pictures in between to keep things interesting.
However, due to the length this will SURELY achieve, AND due to spoilers (and yes, laugh at me all you want, the game has been out for 5 years) I’ll put this under a cut. Read at your own (f)risk.
Metagaming - the game plays YOU
When I first started Undertale, I ‘knew’ these things:
there’s a stabby one with a knife, their name is chara
there’s a flower everyone hates
something something sans something something
and the last, and perhaps most important thing
you can spare your enemies to avoid killing them
The thing is. The THING IS.
I did not realize how pervasive this strategy was. My thought at first was ‘okay, so I don’t have to kill EVERYONE.’
I had no idea that the reality was that I didn’t have to kill anyone.
I’m sure many others have already said this, but Undertale kind of changes the way you think about other games. It forces to you examine simply fighting your way through the RPG by introducing completely non-murder-y ways to resolve issues. This conversation-based combat style is not the first of its kind, I’m sure, but it’s also incredibly well done. It ties into the story, it ties into your decisions.
It ties into your decisions SO MUCH that it changes everything else in the outcome.
Undertale is a game well known for breaking the 4th wall. However, it does so in a strangely eerie, heart-wrenchingly real way. It teaches us that there are other solutions to conflicts - and it really... it really TEACHES us, you know?
Tumblr media
Which is funny because to be honest, it took me a while to get the lesson.
(You may already be fully aware of this but yes, my first True Neutral Route was extremely organic. I legitimately had no idea that there was even more than one ending. I was just stumbling about er... killing. Out of habit.)
The beauty of this is that the game drives home that point even more effectively because I was fully unaware of my own bias. I had assumed that some enemies would require killing - DESPITE TORIEL SPECIFICALLY TELLING ME TO TALK TO THEM, and the entire Ruins tutorial being about Mercy. I killed the Dummy on accident (granted, it was due to me pressing the key too fast a few times) and didn’t think much of Toriel’s disapproval. I killed a few monsters because I saw my level was low and decided to automatically grind a little bit.
By the time I got to Toriel, I was still not comfortable with the mechanic. I knew I could Spare her somehow - after all, she was a kind monster, and clearly an important character - but the Spare option didn’t yield promising results the first few times I chose it. I ran out of patience and decided that maybe... maybe it was like pokemon!
Maybe I had to get her health down to a certain level before she would allow me to pass through.
Funny thing though.... you know what happens if you attack Toriel one too many times? Even if she has most of her health left?
Yeah uh... it activates that one-hit-KO thing from No Mercy Route.
So of course, what happened? I hit her one too many times... and killed her! And of course, immediately panicked and reset.
I got back to my previous save, Spared Toriel PROPERLY this time, and walked out of the ruins only to be confronted with my own reliance on the magical ‘redo’ button which was... apparently... not that magical.
Because it WASN’T a clean redo. Flowey apparently remembered.
Tumblr media
The idea that the game would KNOW about my previous attempts beyond the save file snapped me out of my casual Undertale playthrough. I realized that something was up - this game was not going to be like the others.
I think it was from this point on that I tried to be more careful, but again - I still hadn’t quite gotten the memo about not killing. I took down a few monsters around Snowdin. And when I got to Papyrus, I grew frustrated about not being able to beat him (I ended up losing several times and coming back to try again) and went off to grind SOME MORE because I figured that could raise my HP and increase my chances of holding off long enough to Spare him.
(The incredible thing about this game is that actually, raising your level gives you only a slight advantage. You can be level 1 and carrying no items, and as long as you’re relatively proficient at dodging the bullet hell style projectiles you will have no issues.)
Anyway, the point is that I realized I could spare the big monsters and did so readily - but I didn’t bother to spare many of the smaller ones.
I figured it didn’t matter.
And then I successfully evaded Undyne, gave her a cup of water, etc... and then went to her house to meet Papyrus, fully expecting her to befriend me anyway.
And you know what happened?
Tumblr media
“She said she won’t hang out with a murderer.“
I think that probably hit me the hardest at that point in the game.
I had a bit ‘....oh’ moment at that point because I realized that the game would punish me for killing even the ‘not-important’ civilians of the Underground. It wasn’t about just sparing the ‘boss monsters’. My actions had consequences beyond just the ‘elite’ characters that we all tend to focus on.
Because yes, it made sense. It wasn’t about just Undyne - why WOULD she randomly be my friend after I killed tons of living beings?
From there on, I spared everyone, but didn’t reset. I decided to see how it would unravel.
The thing I want to talk about, which is a little difficult, is that...
It took me that long to learn that kindness was the answer. And that, in itself, ends up being a metaphor.
It’s difficult to be kind if you have not been show how to be.
It’s difficult to change the way you behave (in a game or out of it) if all you know is using other methods.
It was hard enough to spare Toriel before I realized I had to just be very patient and trust that her attacks wouldn’t hit - though at first I thought she would just kill me!
It was hard to avoid Papyrus’ attacks and I had to die several times before I successfully got through it.
It was near impossible to fight Undyne because I legitimately had no idea Fleeing was an option. I struggled for ages at her stage, and I had to ask for help to understand what I could do.
And that’s actually honestly very true to life as well.
Being kind takes risk. Being kind takes effort. And sometimes, being kind means asking others HOW to be kind.
When you choose to be kind, you risk being hurt, and you risk being trapped (Toriel). When you choose to be kind, you need to expand a lot more energy to succeed (Papyrus). When you choose to be kind, you need to sometimes reach out to others to show you how to properly do it (Undyne).
The rest of the playthrough probably went about as you expect. I completed the game, didn’t kill any Boss Monsters, fought to the end and... got that really unsatisfying Neutral Ending which felt strangely bittersweet.
And of course, after I was done, I was prompted to go back and do a proper Pacifist Run. Which I did. I learned about the background of Determination, about Chara and Asriel... and about how everything came to be the way it was.
Tumblr media
The thing that gets me the most about this game is how it serves as a direct parallel to how we use videogames. In fact, Undertale is a videogame... about videogames.
Chara appears to be a direct metaphor for the people that use videogames to escape - to cope with whatever happened to them in The Overworld. Bad family life, or bad relationships or whatever we suffer - escapism through games is not, in itself, a new theme.
Chara arrived in Undertale by dropping themself down a hole in the mountain, perhaps even seeking to end their life. They dropped into a world which offered them comfort and companionship, a new family and a new life - but in the end, their nature was destructive because their means to finding a solution inadvertently used other people as fodder. Asgore, Asriel - they used everyone else to complete their plans. It wasn’t about forming connections - it was about Completing the Quest.
I wonder - did Chara even HAVE access to a MERCY option?
Tumblr media
Was their world one without the option of sparing someone? Did they only have the choice of acting - and was Mercy in the hands of whoever attacked them? I wonder how difficult it might have been for them. I wonder how that, in itself, shaped their perception of the world.
I wonder if that’s why, during the No Mercy run, people recognize you as Chara? If they come back and attach themselves to your resonating DETERMINATION?
If this is true, was MERCY perhaps created later, brought into existence once Asriel himself made the choice to NOT fight, to turn back and flee, even after being attacked by humans in the Overworld?
Tumblr media
(It would be a nice parallel to Asgore DESTROYING the Mercy option when you enter the fight with him...)
...
In the end, I think Undertale is about many things, including video games.
But it’s also hurting - and being hurt.
It’s about how trauma can shape us, how we deal with feeling grief, and loss, and depression - and not being able to feel anything.
It’s about how we focus on goals and use DETERMINATION to keep going - even when whatever it is that’s driving us no longer has any SOUL.
It’s about how our action have consequences, but they also carry the weight of a choice, and how powerful those choices are, and how powerless we feel when we aren’t given a choice - not to fight back, nor show mercy.
I think that’s probably the reason this game resonated with so many people. It really brings something we love about videogames to the forefront - that ability to fight back, to have full and total control of our own lives...
And it also shows us how having that endless loop of repetitive grinding and fighting with zero consequences can lead to an incredible hollowness and make us numb to how we interact with real-life people.
Anyway.
Good game.

Worst character death, for Undertale >:3
PAPYRUS
Like I mean they’re all pretty bad. I recently tried a neutral run where I killed Undyne ‘cause I was trying to build up to a Geno run and that was rough. Her neutral run death is absolutely heartbreaking and hard to go through ‘cause she still has her DT, but in the neutral run....she doesn’t transform. She just....she just slowly melts and dies as you give her the final blow over and over and over again. I legit nearly RESET after that ‘cause I felt so guilty.
But PAPYRUS OH MY GOD. I know I just talked about how horrible Undyne’s death is and like...how could Papyrus ever top that? And, quite frankly, in a neutral run? I don’t know. I don’t know because I haven’t been able to attempt Papyrus yet. I’ve killed Mettaton, I’ve killed Undyne, I’ve even killed Toriel. I cannot, for the life of me, kill Papyrus. I’m literally procrastinating on my next run ‘cause it’s the run I plan on killing him.
And it’s cause.... Papyrus is just... He’s not extremely naive (a lil sure but I think he’s less so than he let’s on), and while I don’t know if he remembers RESETS or not outside of the usual deja vu or know they are happening, he’s just... He’s so kind? And his philosophy and way of life is just... He wants to believe anyone can change, even if they’re a terrible person. To the point where he risks his life in the Geno run by not even FIGHTing you at all. Just SPARING. And god... everyone else. Everyone else you can die to. Even Toriel.
But Papyrus? I believe it’s impossible to be killed by him in-game. Correct me if I’m wrong. But I do know that, once you’re down to 1 HP, he ends the FIGHT immediately.
He doesn’t want to kill anyone. He doesn’t even really want to capture you. He just wants friends and validation because -- as confident as he projects himself -- he does have all these insecurities and is lonely and either is blind to Undyne’s friendship or feels that her and Sans’ care and love for him are just not enough.
Undyne? Legitimately wants you dead. Same with Mettaton. Asgore doesn’t want it but, despite his grief over it, will kill you anyways. Even destroying your SPARE button in the process. Toriel doesn’t want to kill you but she doesn’t make it easy for you to SPARE her either and trapping a kid in the RUINS with a stranger is kinda...yknow? She has no ill will and just wants to help you because she knows if she doesn’t you’ll die... But a child isn’t going to understand that.
And while beating you until an inch of your life really isn’t... I mean it’s not good by any stretch of the means in of itself. But it speaks volumes when he’s the only boss that like...won’t and can’t kill you. And after he even tries to help you as best as he can and as earnestly as he can. He’s like the most genuine character in the game, which is ironic considering he was potentially raised by one of the least genuine character in the game.
(I love Sans, but I’m calling him out. The guy is like never completely honest. And when he is it’s either about Papyrus or he goes and obscures his honesty with lies or tricks. Like seriously, we all know he ain’t talking about an echo flower in that one convo. And I find it hard to believe that he’s “rootin’ for ya” right after threatening your life but also in neutral runs when you kill someone. Like he doesn’t even show up in his Hotland station if you kill Undyne, but he’s right in MTT resort ready to be pals? Ain’t buying it.)
Sorry, sidetracked.
But yeah, again Papyrus doesn’t even FIGHT you in Geno run. So like... yeah.
His death is like the worst to me. (Fuck it man: I can read angst and whump fics about nearly every character in Undertale, but the minute it’s Papyrus I have the hardest time reading it. Like there’s this really one popular one that I just... I can’t even try because I can’t stand the thought or idea of Papyrus growing as nihilistic as Sans is...)

Confessions
It was a normal conversation. They’d been talking about politics or sports or some book they’d read, and before they’d known it the topic had slid to their time in the Underground. Undyne was talking about their “fight” and how annoyed she’d been, when all they’d done was run away. She didn’t seem to notice how they’d gone quiet, which they supposed made sense, since they were always quiet.
“Hey punk, speaking of fights, who was hardest? Was it Asgore?” She asked it like she already knew the answer, and no one looked at Sans. Why would they? Frisk felt like laughing, but it wasn’t funny.
“OOOH, DARLING, WAS IT ME?” Mettaton proposed, posing dramatically as always. Again, no one looked at Sans. For a moment, they considered lying, giving some easy answer that wouldn’t raise questions, but the words just wouldn’t come.
“you ok there, kiddo? you don’t have to answer if it makes you uncomfortable,” Said Sans. Hearing the genuine compassion in his voice, they broke. Frisk began to giggle, then to laugh, tears running down their face.
“uh, i know i’m a pretty funny guy, but-” “It was you” Frisk said, their hysterics replaced with a burning desire to just end this damn charade already. They heard the other monsters in the room reacting with confusion, but their voices blended together until they all just sounded like the Amalgamates. Frisk was entirely focused on Sans. For a moment he just looked befuddled, like he didn’t know what they meant, before they saw the comprehension dawn across his face.
“oh jeez, kid. did i…?” Frisk looked at the floor. Clearly, he hadn’t put it together completely yet. They weren’t sure what he was thinking, but it was probably related to what he’d said in the restaurant. They needed to make him understand. Make him stop thinking they were as good and kind as their LV 1 would imply.
“It was in the Hall,” they said haltingly (hall-tingly, perhaps? They thought briefly that Chara might have appreciated that pun, before jerking abruptly back to reality).  Looking around a bit, everyone but Sans seemed utterly baffled by the odd turn the talk had taken. It seemed prudent to explain.
“Toriel, do you remember how you knew I liked butterscotch, even before I told you? And Papyrus, do you remember how you thought we’d met before?” They saw the mentioned parties opening their mouths to answer, but they found themselves afraid that, if they stopped, they’d lose their nerve. Instead, they barreled forward with their explanation.
“Sans could probably explain the science of it better than me, but it was like… every time I felt “determined” I could create this… “SAVE point”, like in a video game” They paused, and took a breath, before continuing. “And when I died, I could go back. I didn’t use it for good,” they looked at their hands and didn’t need to wonder what they’d feel like covered in dust. “I- I didn’t mean to, the first time,”
“the first time?” asked Sans. Frisk didn’t look at him. They didn’t need to. Easy enough to tell what he was thinking about. They supposed that this was their last chance to back out. Their last chance to deflect or lie, preserve the illusion that they deserved any of this. They couldn’t RESET anymore, not without- The others deserved to know.
“The first time I- I killed someone, I mean. The first time was an accident. The rest... weren’t,” Frisk picked at their hands, a nervous habit Toriel was always admonishing them for. She didn’t say anything about it, this time. No one said anything. The whole room was waiting on their next words, waiting for them to justify what they’d done somehow, give some logical reason for their cruelty. At that thought, Frisk laughed. They laughed for a solid 30 seconds, holding their arms tight to their sides. As they calmed, still grinning, they said;
“I enjoyed it, you know. I was having the time of my life! How sick is that?” They giggled a bit more, “Toriel, I can’t believe you forgot it! I was so nice to you, through the whole battle, and then at the last second, right as you were about to spare me, that’s when I-!” Their grin is hurting their cheeks, but they just can’t stop! It’s just so funny! They tried to finish the sentence, but they couldn’t get it past their wide smile. It was okay, though. They could see, somewhere in her horrified face, that some part of her remembered what they’d done. They turned their gaze to Papyrus. “You tried to spare me, did you know that? You didn’t even want to fight! I just walked right up and slapped your head off! And then-” they gestured the movements violently, arms jabbing to and fro. At least one person flinched away. Good. “Then you said you still believed in me! That you thought I could do better! Like I was some sort of good person! Like I was redeemable, can you believe?” Their breath hitched, and they couldn’t figure out why. Wasn’t this right? Wasn’t this true? Wasn’t it all just so funny it made them want to choke? They didn’t get it!
“Haha… And Undyne, right? You remember that kid who kept following me?” They knew she did. They knew she was probably thinking of all of the terrible things they could have done to the kid, but have no fear, for Frisk was here! Here to finally expose what a shit person they were, once and for all. “Yeah, so that confrontation on the bridge went a little bit differently. Instead of them running away and almost falling off of a cliff, they tried to emulate what you would do!” They would grin, but they were already grinning. Pity. “So this idiot kid decides they’re going to try- get this, they decide they’re going to try to stop me!” Frisk stopped for a moment. Their smile dropped. They… weren’t proud, of what they’d done next. “...Bet you can guess how well I responded to that,” they said quietly.
“But Undyne you- you just had to play the hero, huh? You, uh. You didn’t let me hit them, but you didn’t stop me from delivering a hit in general, either,” How do you tell someone you’ve watched them turn to dust and die? Not like this, they were pretty sure. Oh well, too late now. “You took the hit yourself, instead. You should have died, kind of, immediately?” Neither Undyne nor Alphys looked very happy with that pronouncement. Undyne, though, appeared to have noticed something in what they’d said.
“...Should have? The hell does that mean?” Frisk took a deep breath, before looking up and allowing their own confusion to show on their face.
“It was super freaking weird!” They yelled, throwing their hands up in the air. “I have no idea what happened! You started, like, shivering? Like you were about to dust except anime happened instead???” Undyne was starting to look excited.
“Anime happened?” She prompted.
“Yeah! Some fucking- ‘this isn’t even my final form’ level anime bs happened! You had 5 digit health, your eye was shooting spears, it was crazy!” Frisk was getting into the heat of the explanation, now. Which was presumably why Undyne picked that moment to interrupt them.
“Wait. You said your hardest fight was with Sans. How the actual FUCK did he upstage that?!” Frisk smiled ruefully.
“Don’t fuck with Sans,” They said feelingly. “Anyway, after a long, grueling battle with you that ate up most of my healing items,” Papyrus screeched “I was victorious. It was extremely unsatisfying. I mean, all of that, and you just kind of… melted and turned to dust. I- I was almost happy, all the times you killed me, y’know?” Frisk laughed a little, “The killing stopped feeling good after Papyrus, but it started feeling bad after you,” They took a long breath in, and let it out as a sigh. “I mean, I’m a genocidal maniac, not a sadist,” Frisk pointed at Sans. “He might be, though! Not that I can really blame him!
“He was waiting for me in the Hall. He told me that if I took another step forward, I wasn’t going to like the- the consequences. Honestly, at that point, that was kind of a motivator,” Frisk could feel the silence. The way the whole room was hanging on their next words. It was less oppressive than it felt like it should have been.
“He asked me if I wanted to have a bad time. I did. He gave me one,” They said. “Sans is… really strong. I died in the first attack,” They look at their hands, and remember dust.
“When I came back, he said “that’s the expression of someone who’s died twice in a row.” and he… He said he knew. About how, no matter how many times he killed me, I’d just come back. What kind of person do you have to be? To- to know that, and do it anyway? To pit yourself against someone who’s literally impossible to defeat?” The answer is that you have to be a lot better than them. “And he just kept killing me. It took ten tries to beat Undyne. For Sans? It took me forty seven. And even then, I only won because I cheated and attacked twice in one turn! And I don’t even know if he actually died, because he went to fucking Grillby’s!” They laughed. It sounded choked.
“Then I went to the throne room, and Asgore died in one hit like a fucking bitch. It was so unsatisfying that I went back to fight Sans again. Eventually, I killed him again, and Asgore died like a bitch again, so I went back a third time, Sans called me out for being a sick fuck, and I decided to see what would happen If I spared him that time. Man, it was awesome. He just- fucking,” Frisk loved this memory, it was hilarious. “Murdered me? It was the funniest thing ever. Told me to ‘get dunked on’ whatever that means. Then he said, if we were really friends, I wouldn’t come back,” Frisk looked at Sans, and stood up. “Guess we weren’t, huh? Since I did come back, after that. Came back to the very beginning, right after I fell. Did it right that time,” They went to leave the room, but paused in the doorway.
“Now you know,” they said quietly, and left.

Image Description: “Frisk, spiders aren’t bugs. They’re arachnids,” Chara deflected. *You know what I mean. Don’t dodge the question. There was an awkward silence from Chara. *You don’t have to look at them when going in there, Chara. “If I attempt to walk with my eyes shut, I will certainly trip, which seems to displease you. I can survive going without food for--” *I was going to say, you could just look at the ground and the food rather than the spiders. “I-- er, hmph. Fine.” Chara stepped forwards, getting the attention of one of the tiny spiders. Chara’s eyes darted about as they tried to avoid spotting any arachnids. “Er… greetings… I’d like, er…” The donuts looked like spiders. ...Eh. They could go without eating a little while longer. They pointed. “Th-that one??”
Chara points at a cup of what they *think* is coffee. They hope it’s hot chocolate. They have never had coffee before, but they don’t think they can have the donuts. The spider before the matt turns back to look at the cup. A moment passes. The spider turned its attention back to Chara, and waved a leg. Chara thought for a moment, and then realized-- this is a sale. The spider probably wants money. Would human money work? What did monsters use as money? Wait. When they had bumped into that… other bug. It had dropped coins. They reached into their pocket, taking out the coins they had picked up from that encounter, dropping them in front of the spider. Trying *not* to squish it. Was killing spiders here considered murder? If spiders were able to buy and sell goods… maybe…? What had Chara gotten themself into.
Chara stood up, holding the cup. They carefully took a sip, and immediately spat it out. *Something wrong? Frisk asked. “Spider juice. Juice. With spiders in it.” Frisk rolled their eyes. *...Well. Toriel did say she’d be making dinner. We must be near her house by now. “Anything would be better than spiders.” They began walking through the ruins once more.
Chara eases themself down, leaning against a pillar and sitting, resting. A stinging pain had started up in their ankle. (It can’t be that much further, can it?) (...I must admit. It would have been easier to walk here with corporeal assistance.) After a few more minutes, they stood themself back up.

underrole chapter 5
https://underroleau.tumblr.com/post/185251201953/the-true-masterpostAlphys gained the attention of everyone, and fidgeted shy on place – We have to wait for another person before we start.. so please take a seat meanwhile.. -
No words were spoken in the wait, just awkward glares exchanged randomly, and immediately broke off. Suddenly, however, a knock on the door made everyone jump in their skin. Alphys went to open, and figure of Asgore occupied the whole space of the entrance.
- I came as soon as I heard… -
- You! - Toriel snared, irritated.
- Calm down, Toriel.. I’m not here to fight. - the king said meekly, as he walked in, greeting the other two with a nod of the head.
- Calm down? After what you have done!!? - Toriel got up, clenching her fists and facing towards him.
- I’m only here to talk. - said the King, an unpleasent note in his voice.
Undyne jumped in, seeing that the situation was excalating quickly.
- Ok, stop your… whatever you two are doing right now, and calm down. Alphys has to tell us something. -
Toriel lifted her chin, giving the cold shoulder to Asgore as she took her seat. Undyne stared for a moment, whispering then to Asgore, who was looking on the floor.
- Wow, that’s your ex? -
As everyone got situated, Alphys cleared her throat, beginning as the attention was all on her once more.
- Yesterday… something… or someone… attacked me and Wave… -
- Someone? - Toriel immediately glanced over to Asgore, who felt himself sink a little in his armor.
- It wasn’t me! - He replied
- Which face do I have to step on?? - Undyne shouted
- Everyone, please stay calm..!! …That creature.. whatever it was… showed me something.. or, more than something… -
- Something what? - Undyne questioned – You saw the future? Like in anime??? -
- N-No Undyne… it was the past.. or the present… maybe yes, the f-future… I still don’t know with certainty… but let me try to explain what I saw. - Alphys took in a deep breath, before continuing, and took a seat herself, as Sans was drinking from a bottle of ketchup – The thing that yesterday attacked Wave, was trying to eat him before I intervened… I tried to help him, but I got eaten myself… I..
- You were… what? - Undyne stammered - Go on. - Sans said, focusing on what she was saying with a pensive look on his face.
- After that, I was in a room. -
- A room? - Toriel repeated, concerned
- Yes.. you won’t believe this, but bear with me… I woke up in this room, with a human, and a flower. - Alphys stood silent for a second, then squeezed her hands on her knees, and proceeded – They talked about a reset... After that, many things happened, but it was like I wasn’t there, and I could not do anything to interact with the world around me. Everything shifted so quickly, from a place to another, a school, monsters and humans were together, I’m almost sure we were on the surface, and then there was this stage, with you Toriel, and the human with the flower standing with something under a cloth, and experiment. And I think I heard the human calling you mom… -
Toriel was brought back, and tried to reply, but Asgore cut her short. - No.. not now. -
- ...after that, the experiment started malfunctioning, and started sucking everything inside itself… The human tried to help the monsters to safety.. I changed perspective, being the human, and then, he and Papyrus were sucked in… and I was brought back. -
Everyone stood silent after Alphys stopped talking, a little shocked.
- Well… the solution to this is easy – Undyne started, grinning – We have to find out who attacked the human… or ask Wave about it! -
- We can just talk to that thing.. - suggested Toriel
- That thing attacked Alphys! I won’t talk to it! - snapped Undyne
Toriel stood up – Violence isn’t an option! -
- Please!! Let me.. let me finish!!.. - Alphys shook in her seat, fighting not to stammer the whole time.
- Sorry.. - Undyne echoed
- So, what I was trying to say is… the human came from another place, but he’s well now. -
Asgore slowly stood up, frowning, and spoke slowly. - I know this isn’t the right time or place, and it’s surely a lot to ask... but can’t we use his soul? -
Toriel immedeately stood up, and stared angrily back at him.
- Again with this! How dare you!! This is the reason I am at the ruins!! To stay away from you! Why would you do that! Why this child! Didn’t you kill enough children??? Couldn’t you just have taken one soul, then gone on the surface and look for more without having to kill them?? Didn’t you make poor and innocent beings suffer enough?? -
- Tori, I.. -
- DO NOT!! - Toriel breathed shakily, trying to regain her composure – I am going to check Wave. - As she left, Undyne was just speechless, as Alphys spoke to Asgore answering him.
- No we can’t use it. It’s not human, nor monster, and it will be useless to break the barrier either way. -
Sans stood up, putting the empty bottle of ketchup on the table.
- Well, for all I care, Wave isn’t so bad and for now he hasn’t hurt anybody… - He started, then as if remembering, he looked up – Before I forget, he said that if you see something really bad, you must run. -
- ...something bad? Like what?? - Alphys looked at Sans, but he was already gone.
Asgore took a deep sigh, and started walking towards the door.
- For the time being, it’s better if I return to the castle… and hope to see Toriel there, sooner or later. -
He gave a sad glare to the ring on his left hand, and walked out.
Undyne realized only then that she was alone with Alphys, and clumsily got up.
- W-Well… I have to go and prepare some things… tomorrow make the human come to me!!! -
With that said, she was gone as well. With a heavy sigh, Alphys went to the elevator, going downstairs. But, as soon as the door opened, she heard growling, and Toriel’s agitated voice. Couldn’t she have a five minute break? When she arrived, she could see Endogeny being threatened by Toriels fire, as the beast growled unhappily.
- Toriel, wait!!! He is not bad! Endogeny, she is just checking on Wave, ok..? -
The creature nodded, jumping up and down, and Toriel relaxed a little, looking around concerned.
- I don’t think you ever told me, but.. what is this place…? -
- W-Well… it’s… uh… the old lab! Before I moved upstairs!!! And the dog is just a puppy that keeps me company! Nothing to see here!! - giggled flustered Alphys, inventing something on the spot. - How is Wave? -
The old lady walked over to the bed, checking up on him, before replying.
- Well, he seems to be better, the fever has gone down. But I suggest for him to rest a bit more. - Slowly, she started walking towards the elevator, adding – All tho he does need some fresh air.. I’ll come to check on him tomorrow. Please keep an eye on him… and be safe… -
- Y-Yes!! Good night!! -
Toriel waved in response, before leaving, and Alphys sighed relieved.
- I’m exhausted… I think I’ll sleep here tonight.. yeah… -
(…)
The next morning, Alphys was woken by Wave’s sudden screaming.
- ALPHYS, ALPHYYYYS ALPHYS! -
- Wh-WHAT??? - The poor scientist tumbled flat on the floor after tripping, tangled in the blanket of the bed. When she looked up, she could see Wave riding Endogeny on his back, waving at her happily.
- I have a new friend!! -
- G-Geez… could you stop yelling like that out of nowhere??? - she cried, standing up, as Endogeny hopped back and forth. - Uhm… Undyne wanted you to go over to her house… you should better get going… -
- Ok! We’re going!! -
- Nonono!! Endogeny STAYS, you go!! -
- But he wants to go outside with me! Can we? -
- O-Oh… mh… if he goes outside, he’ll be punished, and no more sweets!!!? -
The beast let out a small cry, before retreating messily in the next room, and Wave jumped off him.
- I’ll be back then.. see you later friend!! -
- Wave, wait, take this cup…!! -
But, as usual the kid was gone, sprinting for Undyne’s house.
- ...I hate it so much when he does that!!! -
(…)
Undyne was nervously pacing the floor, checking the time.
- Where is he… he is late… I should pick him up… ARGHHH.. -
-  I AM HERE!! - Wave yelled, jumping from a window and landing on Undyne.
- UGH, GET OFF ME!! - Undyne kicked Wave away, groaning – Asgore told me to keep an eye on you, but I’m not your mother! -
- Are you going to show me the spear again??? -
- ...did you hear what I said? -
Wave just stared back, with big glowy estatic eyes. Undyne stared at him with a weirded out expression.
- You’re strange, but kinda remind me of a person… well, anyway. Today I’ll be teaching you how to judge if you’re in danger. - she started, pointing to a mannequin placed in the middle of the kitchen – You see that dummy? Attack him with your magic! -
- YESSS!!!!! What’s my magic?? - He cheered enthusiastically
Undyne facepalmed.
- Focus, and… I dunno… shake your hand. Your magic should be something natural, I can’t explain it. -
Wave stood for a moment, then lifted a fist, moving a finger and pointing to the dummy.
- BANG. -
Nothing happened.
Undyne sighed, recalling her short patience.
- ...THROW A ROCK, PUNCH HIM, DO SOMETHING. -
- Oooohh.. - Wave nodded, grabbing a pebble – Like this?!! - he threw it with all his might against the dummy.
- Yes! Like that!! -
The pebble bounced on the dummy making it wobble, and it started bouncing everywhere in the room
- !!! -
Undyne didn’t see the shot coming right for her head, and to boot it, she didn’t feel anything at all when it hit her.
- Wait, what..? - She replied, surprised, - Nothing…? Ok.. I.. GIVE UP! - A spear was summoned – A good fight solves everything!! - She yelled, attacking Wave.
The kid just started dodging, left, right, up n down, touching the spear way too amused.
- WOW!!! So shiny!!! -
- UGHHHH!! STOP DODGING AND DEFEND YOURSELF ALREADY! -
- Yes!! - Suddenly Wave created a tri-colored spear.
- Finally!!! -
Undyne’s enthusiasm cut short however, as soon as the spear melted to the floor in liquid flames. She froze, staring at the puddle between them.
- Is this a joke? -
Wave scratched his head, annoyed. - Mhh, I wanted a spear. -
Undyne charged on him again.
- Don’t think! Fight back!! Push me back!! -
- That’s easy!! -
Finally, Wave was able to create something with his magic, shooting a blue mass against Undyne.
- So you can do something!! - The fish woman prepared herself and tried to pierce the mass, but right after touching it, she was shot against the wall, bouncing and not feeling any pain from the impact.
- HUH?? Ok, that was weak, but it’s a beginning! - She said, standing on her feet, and throwing her spear against Wave, easily dodged. - YOU NEED MORE?? - All around thirty spears filled the area, and Wave fangirled hardly containing himself.
- SPARKY!! WOW!!! -
- Do not compliment the enemy!! - Undyne warned, and the spears were shot against him at once – DEFEND YOURSELF!! -
- As you ask! - He replied, and a red mass expanded from Wave, countering the spears and making them vanish in thin air.
- Uh-oh.. - Undyne crossed her arms in front of her, shielding herself from the blow that pushed her right through the wall, that crumbled with a loud crash. thanks again tot he amazing @nephdetermined  uwu  and  @blobtheartist for the draw !!!! MASTERPOST

re: Dead Cells/Undertale
And why it would be the worst crossover ever.
First off, I have not finished Dead Cells, and I’m trying to play it as blindly as possible, so please do not add anything further than what I mention right here in this post!!! This includes tips, runes, locations, and unseen dialogue. I’ve recently acquired my first stem cell, and have only gotten to the Concierge once in the many games I’ve started in hard mode, sodo please be mindful of that. And now, the promised content.
This started off as a fun mashup between the two games, but the realistic side of my brain kicked in and said, “How would this actually go?” And, quite honestly, that one seemed more interesting, both in terms of how this hypothetical game would be played (I wish I could show you guys instead of just talking about it), and in the potential angst that would be held.
The first thing I feel we need to address is how the game starts. Dead Cellsman (as I so often see him called) has a beheaded prisoner to crawl into each time you start over. Who is supplying these? I have no idea. However, I’m going to say that these bodies are either thrown down there by the same being each time you start, or Mr. Prisoner Sir finds his ride off-screen, and we only see him fall down.
“But Robot!” you cry. “That’s so unnecessary and specific!!! Why would you bring that up?” Good question!! Because the alternative is diggging his way underground and taking over the dead body of the first fallen human. Only works once, and that’s so horrifying and disgusting that I immediately hated it as soon as I considered it, and wished I never had. The concept of eventually unlocking the other previous humans would be pretty cool if they weren’t, you know, way past their expiration date.
Disgusting and terrible, but I needed to address it. Next section: actual fighting.
Mr. Cellsman does not have the time for extensive dialogue and conversations. He’s thrown into prison, given a couple of weapons, and his tutorial covers a total of maybe 20 seconds between three deaths. Everything after that is a line of destruction and occasional smart remarks about something poorly lit by a blue candle. A speedrunning, monster-hacking, hilt-happy creature does not bode well for the residents of the Underground.
He does not have much sympathy for the dead, and he criticizes those in charge of the living. I don’t blame him, honestly, but it makes me wonder how he would react to something that begged when he’s already supposed to kill it. Or if he would even give them time to do so. For the purposes of this post, he doesn’t. He sees it, he hacks it, he gains whatever coin they had on their person. All things considered, I’d say he would start off with a fairly high Level of Violence, so it would be much easier to go through the game.
The boss fights would be very interesting. Toriel wouldn’t have any sort of connection as to a child, and would not hold back during her fight. I almost want to see it. The dogs would be the equivalent of Elites, probably. Papyrus would be absolute hell to fight, with his constant ground attacks; not to mention that you’re supposed to hit him in the middle of all of it. He’ll make it a fair fight, of course, but according to even Dead Cells logic, he will be on par with you. I think Undyne would be very similar to the Time Keeper, except you couldn’t simply break out of her hold.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I did this in my sketchbook and I’m so glad I can make it again with real context.
To be fair, I’ve only gotten as far as Undyne, so I won’t go much farther on that topic, except on the specifics of the next section dealing with Sans, since I won’t ever play that run, anyway. (So, basically, I lied.)
Encountering Sans at the end would be... very frustrating, to say the least. Either his fight would be very similar to the Hand of the King, or he would simply disappear every time you tried to hit him, until you figure out that there’s actually a secret passage to bypass him entirely and you’ve wasted so much time, there goes your speedrunning record. The difference here might actually count on either the time it took you to get to the end, or how thoroughly you took out the monster population. (He would probably deal more damage than Frisk ever could; getting held up so often allowed for more people to escape.)
Wow. So. Here we are. Are you still reading this? Have you done this all in one big chunk? Please take a moment to look away from your screen, stretch, and do five real good blinks. Take in a deep breath and hold it. Hold it. A little longer. And out. Yeah, man. Breathe some of the outside stuff, too, for bonus refreshment. Maybe get some water while we’re here. This post is a little long, might as well add in a break time paragraph. I’m certainly using it as a time to stop writing, before I get into the next segment and lose 30 more minutes. Also??? Thanks for sticking through this far, it really means a lot. Especially since I haven’t edited a single bit of this so far, and probably won’t from this point on.
All right!!! Have you stretched? Have you had some water? Did you take a big whiff of your surroundings so as to not get too lost in the sauce of this crazy post? I hope so, pal, because here comes the fun part: The Aftermath.
When you fight Sans, he makes his accusation: you’re the anomaly in his research, and you need to be stopped. But here’s the thing: he doesn’t say that on nothing. He says that in almost full confidence, and suspected it in other runs. What gives you away? Not entirely sure, but I bet defeating the Captain of the Royal Guard without dying, or openly having zero interest in things that should be interesting, hints at it. And unless something is lit by a blue candle or offers the promise of cells and upgraded weapons, Dead Cellsman has very little interest in anything at all.
So you could imagine that someone speedrunning through the Underground, killing everyone in his path while hardly stopping to glance at the scenery, would be waving a big red “time anomaly” flag. And if Sans managed to evade him until the end, and even had the time to overcome any shock and actually do something, that would be one horrible, inescapable fight.
Here’s where my idea splits in two:
1. Sans dies. You receive a special item to take out Asgore in one hit, you win, you finish the game. There is... little point in restarting it, because I’m logical and boring and the remaining monsters of the Underground wouldn’t come out of hiding for... a very long time. Longer than it’d be worth Mr. Cellsman to consider coming back for.
So when Frisk falls, there is nothing and nobody. The place is a little dusty, a little bloody, there’s a few spare coins on the ground, but everything is utterly abandoned. The towns, the stores, the homes you can’t explore, anyway; they’re empty. It’d make for a boring game, honestly. There’s Flowey, but he’s so distracted by recent events that he doesn’t even show up when you first fall. There’s not point in “kill or be killed” when there’s no one around to fight you. He’ll talk to you, sure, but because you’re another entertaining attraction. Your SOUL would be great, but what’s the point if the others are almost completely inaccessible, now?
Perhaps he’ll tell you the tale of the genocidal killing spree he witnessed for fun.
2. (This ending applies to ones with and without a Sans fight, with or without total monster destruction.) Not to add another angst story featuring the Sans man, bUT... Sans does not die. You get past him, you take out Asgore, you win the game, whatever. You get to move on.
And Sans was wrong. Nothing resets. He thought he was right, he was so positive, but here he is. And there are so many people who are dead. It must be hard to deal with, when he hardly has anyone to blame it on. He can’t even curse the murderer to his face. So imagine what it must be like to watch another monster kill so many of its own kind, only to have a human fall after that. The creature that banished them all underground is now here to either finish them off or send them to the Surface, but I doubt anyone thinks it’s the latter. The angel has returned to free them all.
Tumblr media
I accidentally made a super metal and symbolic image to go with this, I will post it separately because, holy cow, did not expect it to turn out like this.
Frisk has to face the most scared, enraged, and depressed monsters they could ever have encountered. Some of them will attack as viciously as they can. Others will beg for mercy, or run as quickly as possible. More will just wait, confused and perhaps upset if they are spared. There will be some who are simply NPCs, as per usual, but they will be very different. There will be fewer. Frisk’s mission to save monsters and encourage their character development will be vastly different and very difficult.
I... made the mistake of waiting over 24 hours to type out the second half of this and lost some of the steam I started with, but I’m also bad at simply describing how bleak and depressing it would be without getting too much into it. So!!! To conclude, a semi-realistic Dead Cells/Undertale crossover would be extremely sad and depressing, since it’s basically coming in on the aftermath of almost-genocide. I will definitely accept further questions and, possibly, requests regarding this post, especially since you actually read through the entire thing and endured through everything in this post even after my enthusiasm died down in my writing. Sorry to disappoint after hyping up The Aftermath, but I was writing that at midnight and probably lost some of my good points. Definitely had a better version in my head.
I also super ignored almost everything involving Flowey for Mr. Prisoner Sir because uhhh I didn’t want to write around that too much, so please don’t call me out on it because I definitely am aware of it and only have weak justifications for doing so. And, since we’re both here,
UnderCells - a little catchy, I like it, but it sounds like the main story itself would be focusing on Dead Cellsman going through the Underground. While it would, to an extent, ignoring Frisk’s presence would simply make it a new level and brief one shot thing for the man. I really like the sound of it, though.
DeadTale - far more appropriate for Frisk’s leg of the journey (as well as all of monsterkind), kinda funny in a sick sort of way, definitely used somewhere else.
It doesn’t matter if you use either of these terms, I thought I’d address it since it’s already a super long post :’D
You made it to the end!!! Congratulations!!!

Starscream in Undertale
So, here’s a crossover fan comic idea or simply a fanfiction idea I’ve been having that I could never really do justice. Since I can’t find someone to request it from, I’ll just make a request post and hope somebody gets inspired or wants to do it.
OK. All of us Transformers fans know that Starscream in any universe basically runs off of determination and spite (with the determination at least being still an aspect of SG Starscream’s character). He’s also sometimes becomes immortal, whether because of a mutated spark, having a shard of the allspark or being brought back to life by other people. In the TFA verse, he literally would keep dying and coming back to life. Now what does sound like, Undertale fans? Isn’t that similar to the power of determination? Could Starscream have enough determination to literally affect himself outside of the magic-rich confines of the Underground where Flowey is the one with the most determination (potentially even causing actual reloads during his death montage in TFA)? If so, just what would he be like during or after a trip to the Underground?
(Note: I’ll be using TFA Starscream while outlining what I have for the idea right now since he’s been the one that has actually died and come back to life with some regularity. I also headcanon that he was still a scientist before the war like his G1 counterpart.)
The comic starts with Star falling down Mt. Ebot instead of Frisk (either while being chased by Megatron, the Autobots, or a TFA version of MECH that revived him with an allspark fragment post-series). He comes to, checks over himself, looks around, then tries to get out of the cave. He keeps bumping against the barrier though, prompting him to try several different ways of breaking through (killing himself and reloading about ten times). He only finally stops when Flowey comes and lassos him with his vines, complaining about dealing with so many reloads all at once. After they both calm down after a bit, Flowey ends up explaining some of the elements of the Underground and warns Star to stay away from the “smiley trashbag” if he knew what was good for him.  Toriel then comes out, causing Flowey to leave. Star decides to charm her to convince her that he’s no threat and not be watched by her. After she returns home, he finds Flowey and asks him more about the “smiley trashbag”.
We then cut to Sans dozing off at his sentry station, pondering the recent ripples from reloads that have been observed and guessing someone’s going to be coming here soon. He then notices a shadow over his head. He opens his eyes and is immediately grabbed by Starscream before being forcibly strapped into his cockpit. Sans considers shortcutting out of there now, but decides to see what happens during this timeline by this anomaly instead. Besides, the more the thing paid attention to him, the more his bro would be safe.
Star takes Sans to a deserted area of the Underground where no one is before finangling new restraints. Then he creates a save spot and alternates between asking Sans questions either in general or about what he knows about SAVES and RESTS and doing some tests, saving after each successful test, to see the difference between this monster and some of the others Star has gathered up to get a baseline from. Anytime an experiment results in death, Star simply reloads to bring the subject back to life. As he’s doing this, he also studies how it works and what are the possibilities of him being able to actively use in outside the Underground once he escapes. Meanwhile, Sans is also trying to gather data about Starscream, hoping that most of it sticks, and figuring out  how to get out of here now.
Papyrus is the first to notice that Sans is missing and sets off to find him along with others (possibly including Toriel). And after that, I’m not sure exactly how the story would go. Resets would definitely happen, though I think getting out of the Underground would be the last timeline ever. And if Chara does bound with him like with Frisk (which I’ll consider likely since they’re both determined and I’m counting a Transformer soul to be similar to a human soul), then I can’t see Star ever going full genocide. He values his independence and free will too much to sacrifice them like that simply for curiosity's sake. He’d likely abort such a run at the first sign that Chara’s trying to take control of his body, especially if it involved not doing Papyrus’s puzzles. Could you imagine how much he’d end up enjoying those? A part of me could imagine the inhabitants of the Underground rubbing off on him, especially Papyrus and his big heart with his insistence that anyone can change. Star would then figure out how the break the barrier and complete a true pacifist ending before destroying the old reset place and starting a new one at the barrier entrance so that now monsterkind will never be locked behind that barrier again, but its still there if anything goes wrong. Star’s not in a position to act as ambassador, so instead the monsters hide him among them while he acts as their protector against those who threaten them. He continually makes new reset points and save spots  when definite progress is made and as he figures out that he really does have more determination than most. Sequels and follow-ups could include run ins with MECH who have expanded their activities to monsters and how the Autobots are taking this turn of events as well as the usual healing that would be going on in other AUs post-pacifist route.
What do you guys think? Any improvements to offer? Anyone want to take up the idea? Anyone else want to see the idea made? Please comment and reblog if so. At least like if you like the idea.

Aftertale Reset
After so, so, SO long, I finally have this oneshot done. This is based on a hella old prompt I’ve kept tucked away in case people donated to my Ko-Fi account, and it’s happened! Convenient timing, since our dear Crayon Queen has told the remaining scraps of Error’s (now Geno’s tale). But, this is a turn away from that story.
Aftertale belongs to @loverofpiggies
Enjoy!
The surface. The sun. Everything Sans, Geno, that all of monsterkind had dreamed of for centuries was finally theirs. The humans in the immediate towns surrounding Mount Ebbot were mostly accepting of monsterkind. Though, the further they strayed, it seemed humankind was less accepting. It wasn’t perfect, but it felt like a dream compared to Asgore’s once declaration of war against humankind. Geno, at the very least, could spend his days no longer trapped. Able to see the sky and the stars clearly through his new pair of glasses, given to him by Alphys. Able to meet new humans and make new friends. It was all a blissful dream he’d never thought he’d experience.
But Geno woke up. He felt groggy at first. The sudden splitting headache didn’t help. He thought he was seeing things. He thought he saw himself in his old room in his old house in Snowdin. In the underground of Mount Ebbot. He could have sworn he didn’t have any alcohol last night, what little he could actually drink without ruining the seat under him. If it wasn’t that, was this a practical joke by Sans? A sick one at that.
I didn’t do anything. Geno paused. That thought just then, it went through his skull, but it wasn’t his own thought. He somehow knew it was separate. Geno spoke aloud, “…Sans?” The thoughts seemed to respond, to coalesce into a voice inside his skull, ‘Yeah?’ Geno stood from the bed, dumbfounded, “What… the hell happened last night?” The body shrugged, but Geno knew he didn’t move the arms. Before Sans could reply, his eye glowed with worry. Geno quickly turned his soul blue to check his suspicions. It was one soul. One, perfectly whole, monster soul.
Geno and Sans both saw the soul through the same eyes. This wasn’t right. They’ve been separated, fragmented souls for so many resets. Why did they fuse? Another question, but it was still nothing compared to the one that weighed so heavily on their skull; was this the underground?
Geno nearly jumped out of bed. He turned to the window slightly askew from the head of his bed. The sight beyond would stop any breath, if he had need of any. A few rows of tall, snow-topped pine trees lay just outside the window. Beyond was a lake, sprinkled with a few blocks of ice to flow downstream. Geno leaned forward. This time he was slow. Geno began to shake as he slowly opened the window. He leaned out and looked up. He and Sans were both silent at the sight. Far above them were hundreds upon hundreds of stalactites. From the water they dripped, came the snow he and Sans had become familiar with for years. This was Snowdin. This was the underground. A tear peaked from their shared skull. The timeline had reset.
Geno gripped the windowsill tightly. He gritted his teeth. The single blue eye began to burn bright as a scowl drew across his face. He hissed, “They broke their promise.” Sans sighed, ‘They wouldn’t reset for just any reason-‘ Geno’s grip crushed down on the windowsill. Some small bits of it fractured in his hands. Geno growled aloud, “It doesn’t matter! Frisk promised they’d never reset, and they did!” Geno curled his hands into fists, “I’ll kill them.” Sans began to protest, ‘No!-‘ Before Sans could protest more, Geno teleported out of the room. The next thing Sans knew, he was near the ever familiar door of Home. Behind it was Toriel, still in a self-made exile. Behind it was Flowey, never able to claim a single soul and become Asriel. Behind it was Frisk, at the first point of their journey through the underground.
Geno quickly sat down in the snow. He set their sights squarely on the door, ready to move at a moment’s notice. Sans sighed at this. He tried to keep an even tone, “Look, we don’t know what happened. We can at least talk to the kid before you try to kill them, right?” Geno grumbled. The blue eye finally faded as he spoke, “Why should give them another chance? We’ve given them too many, and then when everything is finally looking bright…” Geno pounded his right fist into the snow, “We get shoved back into the dark! I’m done giving them chances.” Sans smirked, “You sure you’re not confusing Frisk with Chara?” Geno groaned, “That. Doesn’t. Matter.” “Kinda does when you’re going all geno-cidal on a kid.” Geno huffed and replied dryly, “Very funny.”
Sans leaned back into the snow. He concentrated on the snow that formed above them, forcing Geno to look at the snow as well. Time passed slowly. Sans could feel Geno calm down somewhat, yet knew he wouldn’t be deterred so easily. He had a long time to wait for a happy ending. Let alone one he could partake. Waiting for Frisk to exit the ruins of Home felt almost just as long. Sans sighed, “Tibia honest, I’m not happy about this either.” Geno rolled their eye sockets, “You’re not gonna convince me not to kill the kid.” Sans turned on their side, “And then what?” “What do you mean?” Sans began to sketch in the snow with a finger, “If Frisk is the one who reset, then they’re just gonna reset again after we kill them.” Geno paused. He curled the hand that sketched. It dragged in the snow and ruined the circular drawing. He shook. His voice began to break, “It won’t… happen… I…” Sans calmly shook their skull, “I know. I don’t want to be here either. I was tired of my frozen bones. Tired of the repeats.” Geno ceased the shakes. He sneered, “Says the one who doesn’t remember most of them.” “Doesn’t mean this doesn’t rattle me.” Geno sat up, “I get it! This situation sucks! But, at least I want to do something about it!” Sans gave a smarmy remark, “Have ya ever thought about asking the kid? Maybe something bad happened on the surface while we were asleep? Maybe Alphys got hit by a car and the kid overreacted?” Geno blinked for a moment. He snickered, “And I thought I was the morbid one!” Sans chuckled, “Well, I am you, sorta.”
The two heard a noise. Both immediately took the body in sync to look towards the door to Home. The two also stood, and Geno tensed a hand. He was ready. Sans relaxed the body slightly instead, to counter Geno’s tension. The two saw the door open slightly. Only enough to peek through. Geno growled lightly and spoke quietly, “They’re hiding. So, they are guilty.” Sans huffed, “Probably just as confused as we are.” A few moments passed in silence. The door opened. The small, familiar human stepped out of Home and into the edge of the Snowdin Forest. Frisk closed the door behind them. They frowned at the familiar scene of the Snowdin Forest. A chill ran up their spine, but they felt it wasn’t the cold that caused this. Just off the path, past the bush that held one of Alphys’s hidden cameras, was a familiar face; Sans. Yet, he seemed different. His expression constantly changed, almost twitching. He seemed at odds with himself. Frisk could see slight embers of his blue eye, as though Sans was fighting not to use his magic. Frisk began to step towards Sans without a word. Sans shouted out, “Watch out!” Frisk’s eyes widened. They moved immediately. Where they stood, a cage of bones shot out from the ground, one that would entrap and possibly hurt them. Geno growled at Frisk, “Y O U  L I A R!” Frisk pleaded, “I didn’t reset!” Geno roared at Frisk, “Then how are we back here?!” Another cage of bones sprung up. This time they successfully surrounded Frisk. Frisk shook in the confines of their cage. Sans held back the body. For a moment, the single blue eye faded to his normal white. He smiled, “Sorry, kid, we’re trying to figure this out, too.” Frisk gave a befuddled look, “Huh?” Geno took control once more. His eye lit with magic. He kept his tone low, “We’re fused, kid.” Geno briefly used blue magic on the complete soul to show Frisk. Frisk shed a tear, “That’s-“ Geno growled his interruption, “And it’s your fault!” Frisk shook their head, “I swear! I didn’t reset! I’ve never even seen the save screen since we went to give you the pie!” Sans spoke calmly, “Geno, I think they’re telling the truth.” Geno growled, “And how would you know?!” Sans shrugged, “The kid was trapped in the save screen with ya. Tell me, does that look familiar?”
Geno locked his gaze on Frisk. A few tears fell from Frisk’s eyes. Their legs shook, but stood so they would not be damaged by the bones. Their lips quivered, their eyes wide. They were scared, and they knew what Geno was capable of. Yet, sorrow and confusion was present most of all. Geno paused. This was familiar. It was close to the expression Frisk gave when he trapped them in the cage. Not the fear of retribution he saw when Frisk first entered the save screen. He relaxed. Doubt began to weed its way in his skull. He sighed, “I shouldn’t trust you, not after everything you did. After you broke your promise. But… I’ll hear your side at least.”
Geno frowned. The cage of bones dispersed from around Frisk. Frisk fell into the cold snow on their knees. They looked up at Geno with worry. He glared down at them, his eyes back to the normal white, but they still pierced through to the soul. His tone was low as he spoke, “You’ve got five minutes to change my mind.”
Frisk nodded. Their expression became calm as they spoke, “I honestly don’t know what happened. I had a good evening with mom. We relaxed with some butterscotch-cinnamon pie for dinner and we each read a book by the fireplace. She tucked me in before bed. I thought this was a dream, but when Flowey attacked me like always, I felt pain.” Sans sat the body down, “So, you’re just as confused as us.”
Frisk nodded silently before Sans spoke again, “Was anything different about Flowey? What about Toriel?” Frisk shook their head, “No. Nothing out of the ordinary.” Geno narrowed his eyes, “Flowey should have noticed something. You're sure?” “I’m sure. I think he’s used to all the resets.” Sans shrugged, “Okay, well, can you think of anything else that could be different? A different line, an object across the room, or a monster missing?” Frisk perked up at the last item in Sans’s list, “There was someone missing.” Both Geno and Sans spoke, “Who?” Frisk answered with a frown, “Chara.”
The three of them went silent. It felt as though all the day’s snow would fall upon them at once. Sans broke the silence, “Chara… they disappeared in the save screen. They passed on.” Frisk frowned. They hugged themselves. They answered quietly, “They did.” Geno scowled, “Chara was the only one that could match your determination.” Sans frowned, “Yeah, well Chara’s gone.” Geno stood, “There’s one place they could be. The save screen.” Frisk frowned, “It could make sense, but I don’t know.” Geno glared down at Frisk, “If it wasn’t Chara, then the reset had to have been your doing. Understood?”
Frisk shook. They nodded silently. Sans butted into the conversation, “Well, there’s one problem. Whether this is Chara or not, we don’t know how to get to the save screen.” Geno frowned, “Tibia honest… I’m not sure either. I’m not injecting that determination again to try that!” Sans muttered, “No one was suggesting it.” Frisk stood, “We have all been to the save screen. There must be some way we can get back there.” Geno stressed, “Besides dying.” Frisk nodded, “How did Sans get to the save screen?” Geno lifted his hand to his chest, “I used the connection of our shared soul to bring him into the save screen. That obviously won’t work. What about you?” Frisk shrugged, “I was trapped there when Chara took over my body.”
The three went silent once more to think through his problem. Frisk perked up after a minute of silence, “I could… try and focus on that place. I… should still be connected… it is my save file, after all.” Geno approached Frisk, “Yeah, but you’re not going alone. If I let you, then you’ll be able to reset again, and we risk completely forgetting everything.” Frisk smiled, “Of course.” Sans stopped in front of Frisk. Frisk closed their eyes. They put their hands on their chest. A long breath escaped them as they focused on their soul. Energy welled and started to flow from it until the shape of a red heart glowed on Frisk’s chest. Frisk turned their thought and this energy to the save screen. All their determination. All their focus on this one place. Geno frowned. He could tell Frisk was struggling. He placed a hand on Frisk’s shoulder very gingerly. He closed his eyes and began to concentrate as well. He focused with his own determination. Sans joined in without hesitation. The three stood there in concentration for a few moments until they all felt a familiar sensation. Frisk’s eyes shot open in shock. Around them, colors and shapes began to glitch and fade. All of a sudden, black dominated their vision. They all disappeared from Snowdin Forest in an instant.
Frisk fell to their knees with heavy breaths. At once, they felt as though most of their energy was sapped. Sans kneeled down to Frisk, “Kid…” Geno turned his gaze to the dark surroundings. Pitch black surrounded them, yet they could see each other with ease. Behind him, he sees the familiar sight. The patch of grass with stone surrounding it. The two giant words in the sky above the grass. In bright yellow, ‘Continue’. In pure white, ‘Reset’. Something caught his eye. Curled on the patch of grass was a small figure. The first thing Geno noticed was the long, perfectly straight, chocolate brown hair. He noticed a sweater; mostly green with a single yellow stripe. Geno’s blue eye shone immediately; he had the gut feeling from what he could see; Chara. Yet, he hesitated. Something was different. He heard small sobs from the small form. He could see they were holding their hands against their head tightly. Most disarming of all, he could partially see through Chara. They were not opaque.
Frisk recovered quickly. They heard Chara’s quiet sobs. They stood and spoke curiously, “Chara?” Chara didn’t react to Frisk’s quiet voice. Frisk frowned at this. Geno stepped forward and growled loudly, “You little brat!” Chara reacted with a gasp. They turned sharply towards the source. Despite their rosy cheeks, their expression was of pure terror. Their eyes were widened, but puffy and red. Tears still dripped down their face. Slight imprints of red are near the sides of their head from pressing their hands to their ears.
Geno summoned a few blasters. They continued to build energy. Sans held his skull and shouted out, “Stop!” The blasters fired. Chara yelped and ducked down. The beams passed just over them. Chara stayed on the grass and shook. Geno growled and held his skull, “What’s wrong with you?! It’s obvious they reset!” Sans retorted, “You can’t kill here, numbskull!” “Doesn’t mean I can’t punish them for what they did!” “For what I did?!” Chara’s voice cut through the tension in the save screen. From their downed position, Chara’s gaze was an intense mixture of anger and anguish. The slowly stood as they spoke, their tone dark and low at first, “Tell me, was the surface fun? Everything you could have ever wanted?” Chara stood with a crazed smile, “Or was it a nightmare?” Frisk shook but stood their ground next to Sans and Geno. Geno and Sans seemed to shake as the two fought for control once more. Chara frowned deeply in response to this silence, “It doesn’t matter, in the end. How the surface was. How humanity reacted. How monsterkind found its freedom.” Their tears began again, “Not for me. Stuck here. Knowing you all got your perfect little ending.” Chara broke into sobs and shouted, “Where’s my happy ending? Why do I have to sit here and suffer alone, while you all enjoy everything?!”
Chara dropped to their knees. They began to loudly wail into their hands. Everyone began to relax, even Geno, confused as he was. Chara’s wails subsided quickly into sobs. Frisk approached Chara slowly. They spoke gently with a confused tone, “I don’t understand. You disappeared–you passed on. Didn’t you?” Chara sniffled. They looked up at Frisk, “I… I thought I did, too.” Sans sighed, “Why don’t you start where we left off?” Geno growled inside Sans’s mind, ‘This is a dumb idea.’
Chara nodded silently. They took a deep breath before they spoke, “It felt calm at first. All I could see was darkness. I… I didn’t understand what had happened. I concluded it was what happened to souls that pass on.” Chara hugged themselves, “Then… I began to feel numb.” Chara began to shake slightly, “It was though something was sapping all my ability to feel anything. All of it replaced with this… presence.” Geno and Sans perked up, “Presence?” Chara nodded, “It… is hard to describe. I no longer felt alone. Yet, this presence was far from inviting. My thoughts began to change, as though I was convincing myself to stay. Not in a comforting way. I thought I was going to lose myself…” Frisk gave a worried tone, “What kind of thoughts?” Chara shook their head, “Most of them were jumbled. I… Don’t know how long I was there… but one thought shook me. It made me realize this was wrong.” Sans and Geno both frowned at the same time, “What thought?” Chara quoted from memory, “Stay… join… become one… with the void.”
Geno shook. His eyes flashed in fear. His thoughts drifted to Gaster, or at least what he’d become. Looking back, Geno saw his offer was enticing at the time. The promise of no pain. The end of suffering. If it weren’t for Sans and Frisk, Geno know he would have followed Gaster into the void, defeated and tired of everything. Geno couldn’t help but stare at the damage the void had done to Chara. The see-through form. Geno, for the first time, showed scraps sympathy, “How’d… you become see through like that?” “When I heard those words… I felt scared. I felt again. It… what the void was doing to me, it hurt. Everywhere. I screamed. I tried to move, but I felt grabbed at all sides. I broke free slowly. I moved any way I could. I ran, I swam. Anything to get away. I… I did. I saw a light in the distance. The save screen. But, I felt something grab at me. It was a skeletal hand.”
Geno twitched but stayed quiet as Chara continued, “It tried to pull me back. I couldn’t look at it! I was so close to the save screen. But, as I reached out towards the save screen, I noticed I was see-through. I screamed. I was almost pulled back. But I… I pulled away. I was desperate to escape, I… I wanted all this to end… to go away!” Frisk frowned, “To… reset…” Chara sighed, “And… I did. I reached this patch of grass and reset. I… I only remember crying and you two coming here.” Geno and Sans spoke together, “Three.” Chara crooked their head. Disbelief scrawled upon their face, “What?” Sans reiterated and gently knocked on his skull, “Sorry, kid, we’ve got two minds in the same skull.” Chara gave a dry laugh, “Just as Frisk and I once were.” Geno huffed, “Yeah, and it’s your fault.” Sans interjected, “The kid just said they escaped the void.” Sans waved a hand towards Chara. He lit up his eye and gently used his blue magic on Chara’s soul. The highlighted soul, despite the magic put upon it, was see-through as well. Sans let go of Chara’s soul and spoke, “And they got the scars to prove it.”
Chara gave a determined look, “I don’t want to go back! That cannot be passing on!” Frisk shook their head, “No, it doesn’t sound right to me either.” Worry bled into Chara’s expression, “I know the reset took everything away from you. Hate me if you want. Injure me, even. I won’t go back. But, I fear this place will not be safe for long.” Geno mused, “It won’t. Ga-… the void… it can come here anytime. It tried to pull me in as well.” “Then if you know staying here is useless, there is only one solution.” Chara glared at Frisk, “I need that body back.”
Frisk hid behind Sans and Geno immediately. Instinctually. Geno and Sans’s eye flashed. Both flashed a smirk and spoke, “You really wanna do this? Here? With no resets?” Chara gave a half smirk, “Oh, but I do have resets. My reseting proves it.” Geno chuckled, “Yeah. Too bad resets don’t reach here in the same way.” Frisk peeked out from behind the skeleton. A familiar chill ran down their spine. Their memory conjured flashes of gold. Of the five hundred and thirty-six attempts to kill Sans the first time. Determination ran through them once more; this cannot happen again. They darted from behind Sans and Geno. They ran up between everyone and held their hands up, “Stop fighting!” Geno, Sans, and Chara all paused. Chara relaxed, while Geno and Sans stood on slight guard. Frisk turned towards Chara with an even expression. Chara raised a brow, “What are you doing?”
Frisk stopped in front of Chara. They spoke evenly, quietly as they usually do, “I don’t want to see that fight anymore.” Chara snarked, “Then tell the skeletons the calm down. All I want is to get out of here. Get away from that place! But, I can’t leave here on my own. We both know a soul without a body is trapped here.” Frisk nodded, “We don’t have to fight over this body. We can share my body.” Both Geno and Sans exclaimed, “What?!” Chara gave a dumbfounded look. Sans and Geno teleported to the children’s side. Frisk wasn’t sure which of the two were talking, “After everything Chara has done your gonna risk starting- no, wait, a lot of the problems we had was your fault. Still, you’re going to risk things going the way they were before.”
Chara raised a brow and crossed their arms, “Why would I want things like before?” Frisk shook their head, “I don’t want the resets either. But, it’s not right. I offered Chara a chance to join our happy ending before.” The skeleton deflated slightly, “Yeah… you did.” Frisk smiled, “So, it’s only fair to keep that offer.” The skeleton sighed, “Well… it is better than the void.” Geno shone through and glared at the two humans, “But, Chara’s reset was the last. We go through one last time and you two never reset again.” His tone turned darker. Red shone slightly in his blue eye, “Or I will kill you without hesitation or remorse. Capiche?” Frisk frowned and hugged themselves. They nodded slowly. Chara smirked, “Only if you lighten up, you bag of bones.” The skeleton chuckled, “Maybe I have put on a few pounds. But, I can always lighten my load by being humerus!”
Chara gave a look of disgust. Frisk giggled. The skeleton chuckled at his own jokes before he sighed, “Alright. So, if you two are gonna share a body, how are you gonna do this?” Chara shrugged, “I am no longer a full soul, perhaps if I just enter the body, there’ll be enough room to share?” Frisk, with a serious look, opened their arms for a hug. Chara reacted dryly, “Seriously?” Frisk nodded silently. Chara guffawed, “What makes you think that will work?” Frisk smiled, “I just wanted to give you a hug.” Chara sputtered and blushed heavily. Sans chuckled, “C’mon, what’s wrong with a little hug?” Chara frowned, “Even as a joke… loving me hurts. Loving anyone hurts.” Sans nodded, “It hurts cuz you love ‘em. Family and friends are a lot to handle. But, you’ve got someone to share that pain with.” Chara stared blankly at the skeleton, “You may think you are, but you are not helping.” Geno butted in, “What he means to say is life is like a skeleton; a lot of long and short parts. Some parts you don’t know what are for, and how they function. But, altogether is a great thing." Chara chuckled in disbelief, “You actually got me to laugh. I always knew you’d be a clown.”
Chara paused. They looked past Geno at the darkness that surrounded them. They frowned before they looked towards Frisk. They opened their arms hesitantly, “Let’s… get this over with.” Frisk flew into Chara’s arms. Frisk was the first to wrap their arms around Chara. They also hung their head on Chara’s shoulder. Chara stood there at first with their arms vaguely around Frisk. Distress on their face. That emotion numbed to a calm. A tear escaped their eye before they finally wrapped their arms around Frisk and smiled. The two stood there with their eyes closed. Chara felt comfort for the first time in a while. They wanted this embrace, a far cry from the void’s. This time, Chara fully accepted it. They felt like they melded into the hug. Soon, the warmth of the hug subsided slightly. Then, they opened their eyes.
Chara no longer saw Frisk in front of them. Confusion dawned on their face. A slight panic before they looked around. They saw Sans and Geno on the opposite side they were before, he was just smiling at them. Chara quickly looked over themselves. It was themselves; it was Frisk’s body once again. Chara blinked. They spoke in confusion, in Frisk’s voice, “Frisk?” They felt their mouth move and Frisk’s voice escape, “I’m here.” Chara’s jaw dropped. They laughed in disbelief, “That worked? Haha…how did that work?” Frisk shrugged, “You woke up before when I first fell into the underground. I guess… just being close?” Chara stifled a chuckle, “That’s… so dumb.” The skeleton chuckled, “Welcome to the body sharing club. Although, you two were the first member, technically.”
Chara huffed, “Can we just get out of here?” Frisk grabbed onto Geno and Sans, “Let’s make our final happy ending.” The skeleton half-smiled, “As long as it is the last one this time.” Chara smirked, “No objections.”
Frisk led the way back. Chara was only able to watch as Frisk grabbed hold of the shared body of Sans and Geno. They felt Frisk concentrate on their new shared soul. All of them appeared in Snowdin Forest in an instant. Chara stood with a shocked expression on their face. Their skeletal companion smiled, “Whelp, time to do the last go around again.” Frisk nodded, “This time, for good.”
The two bodies walked through the underground. Chara watched as many other monsters were picked up along the way. There were expected ones like Papyrus and Undyne, but this time, some other monsters joined in on the journey. Even a temmie was eager to help this time around. It wasn’t long before Chara aided in the journey they had taken with Frisk countless times before. There were times they weren’t sure if the body’s actions were from themselves or Frisk. Chara somehow didn’t mind this, and they felt that Frisk didn’t mind it either. One of the actions they knew both of them took together was their final attempt to save Asriel. It hurt knowing it still wasn’t possible after all this time. But, Chara made a note to retrieve Flowey after all was said and done. They had a surface to see after all.
After what had seemed like years, Chara, Frisk, Geno, and Sans stepped out onto the mountainside of Mount Ebbot. Outside of the now shattered barrier. They had let all their friends disperse at their own pace, but the four of them remained to watch the sunset in private. A thought ran through Frisk and Chara’s head, one that they spoke aloud, “This will be the last time we see this sunset.” The skeleton beside them shrugged, “Nah. We can come here anytime in the future.” The human paused. They raised their hand. Determination ran through them. The skeleton’s eye flashed for a moment, “What are you doing?” The human replied simply, “Ensuring we don’t go back. Ever.” The familiar star appeared to them. With one touch, the human felt this was the point they’d return to upon a reset. Now and forever. The human flashed a smile, “There. It is done. No more of that prison.” The skeleton frowned, “You promise?” The human nodded with a smile, “I promise.” “Both of you promise?” “…It… doesn’t feel as though there are two of us?” Worry flashed on the skeleton’s face, “Did one of you disappear?” The human shook their head, “No… Frisk and Chara are still here… but… it’s hard to figure out who’s thoughts are whose now.” The skeleton relaxed, “Tibia honest, it’s getting harder to differentiate Geno and Sans, too.” The human replied dryly, “At least you can simply say you are back to being only Sans now.” “You don’t want to be Frisk or Chara?” The human didn’t answer. Sans shrugged, “Oh well, you’ll figure it out eventually. You got your whole future ahead of you, after all.” The human saw the sun completely set on the horizon. Darkness had returned to the surface. The human smiled, “Yes. I do. An entire future to think.”

minawakitten replied to your post “Sorry for Undertale-ing on main but I’e been listening to songs that...”
yall gonna have to go into more detail about that because that gremlin child did not give me many good impressions [ especially when asriel goes into detail about the time they were as one being ]
Sorry I was really focused on drawing this:
Tumblr media
Now that I got some of my feels out of my system I’ll tell you about Chara, or at least, the story I had for her.
Spoilers under the cut, because I still want to write this damn story one day gdi
Okay so Yeah I get why you’d think Chara is an absolute gremlin. TBH I thought the same when I started developing the original AU where this specific interpretation of Chara comes from, but the story developed beyond that and she became the protagonist.
But first: Have you ever heard of the Narrator Chara Theory?
I’m not sure how popular the theory is now, but it was kind of popular when I was in the undertale fandom. The idea is simple: Chara is the narrator. This explains some strange things, like why the narrator is addressed as “Chara” by Flowey when you open the game after a pacifist run to RESET it, and other bits and bobs. A lot of people use the flavor text like “No Chocolate” or “Where are the Knives” from the genocide route to point out that this is Chara and Chara is evil--except that flavor text is narration. You can’t just say some narration is Chara while others aren’t. It’s all or nothing, and there’s hints that depending on how the player plays the game determines what kind of personality Chara gets at the end. When you do a genocide run, Chara wants to destroy the world because Chara saw Frisk kill all of monster kind and decided that the whole world should be erased. If you think about it, they are said to hate humans--and why wouldn’t they hate humans more after seeing Frisk massacre the entire monster race? What motivation would Chara have to want this world to live if the species they grew fond of was obliterated?
It’s also implied that the player’s/Frisk’s actions makes Chara “Good” or “Evil” depending on what you do. Notice how the narration changes in the different routes? That implies that the narrator themselves is a character being affected by Frisk’s actions. Chara may or may not also feel bitterness at monster kind in the afterlife, because of the declaration of war Asgore had, which is why Chara may have been enthusiastic about the genocide run as well as the pacifist run.
Once you consider Chara to be the narrator Chara’s character expands beyond what Asriel gives you and the hints you get about them in the game. Asriel’s claim that they weren’t a good person almost becomes kind of cruel, and before you say Asriel is a sweet baby child that can do no harm, let’s not forget that Asriel is also Flowey and Flowey is just Asriel’s personality without much empathy/sympathy/unable to feel emotions.
I’d like to point out that Chara... literally gave their life to try to save monster kind. They had no point of reference to what would happen to them after they died and Asriel took their soul, there was no real way for them to have known they weren’t going to just cease existing afterwards. Them taking their body up to the surface? That was probably Chara wanting to give closure to any family, or in a more bitter tone, bring their body up to the surface to show what the humans what they had done--killed them.
It’s implied heavily that Chara was abused, which is where they get their hatred of humanity from. Them wanting to kill all the humans on the surface, while still morally wrong, was probably a sort of revenge for what they did to them. They were hurt and abused, and they have an intense hatred for humanity that they probably wanted to wipe most of humanity out because of their past abuse. That is especially amplified with how it was monster kind that gave them a good home, food, love and care where as humanity remained ugly and horrid. There were no positive human influences on Chara, and seeing how such a kind and loving race was trapped under ground probably fueled the fire even more.
Either way, they did sacrifice themselves to try to free human kind, regardless of interpretations and speculation.
Now in comes my specific girl here.
My interpretation of Chara didn’t just have the above conflicts weighing on her mind, but also pressure accidentally put onto her and Asriel. Asgore, Toriel, and all of monster kind calling them their “hope” and... you know? That’s actually a lot of pressure to put on two kids, especially when one of them was abused like Chara was.
Chara sort of cracked under the pressure, feeling like she had to do something to save all of monster kind, and it lead her to mixing the poisonous buttercup flowers with milk chocolate to make poisonous chocolate bars Asriel could sneak to her without Asgore or Toriel noticing. Because she felt like she wasn’t worth anything, and hated herself for being human, she chose to sacrifice herself.
Asriel absorbed her soul, and she took her body to the surface to give closure to her brother, Marcus. Marcus is an OC who is also the soul of INTEGRITY. Yes, the ballet dancer soul is a boy in this story, and that actually kind of comes into play as to why Chara and her brother were heavily abused and eventually kicked out and living as starving children in a village. Marcus immediately recognizes his sister, and of course, thinks Asriel killed her. This causes a riot within the town and Chara wanted to fight them, kill them and collect their souls to free monster kind from the underground, but Asriel refused to fight. This ends up getting them both killed like in the canon.
In this AU/Story, Chara actually had a yellow soul of JUSTICE rather than a red soul. However she died with a red soul--how? Well in this AU, a RED soul isn’t actually a naturally occurring soul color, but rather represents the soul being overtaken by DETERMINATION. Being DETERMINED to save monster kind turned her soul red, but she couldn’t perform the RESET trick Frisk can. Why?
Marcus.
Marcus, being a blue soul, was filled with DETERMINATION to the point where his soul was red. The implications here is that yellow is easier to make red than blue is, so Marcus was filled with more DETERMINATION than Chara. In a fit of rage, he tracked Asriel to the underground carrying Chara’s body back with him, to show the monsters what hey had done to his sister and why they were being massacred by him.
His DETERMINATION wore thin, however, as he couldn’t kill Asgore, so his soul returned to blue and his soul was taken as the first soul. Enter the first glitch RESET.
You see, in this story, Chara wasn’t supposed to die like she did. She was supposed to free monsters peacefully after her brother found her, but because she died like she did, the world’s code was glitched, and it tried to rectify itself by trying to recreate the peaceful scenario. This is why there was a drought of humans not even coming near the underground and then suddenly, six humans fell in succession.
Meanwhile, Chara was put in the LOADING SCREEN, basically a dark room with no light aside from green lines of code flickering on the wall. She eventually realizes she can manipulate the code, and spends a very long time learning how to manipulate it to build a console, a machine that allowed her to see what was going on in the outside world.
Before she was able to finally make the console, however, six humans had fallen and killed. Asgore, not wanting to kill humans anymore, sent the six souls to Gaster (yes he has a role in this) and his lab assistants, Sans and Alphys, to try to figure out a better solution.
The DETERMINATION machine was created as a result, and extracted all of the DETERMINATION from the six souls. However, at a sort of celebration party for the success of the machine, Goner Kid was left unattended and accidentally pushed some buttons on the machine’s control panel, causing a severe malfunction.
Sans was only able to teleport himself and Alphys out of the lab before the machine exploded, obliterating all of their coworkers into space and time, including Gaster. The DETERMINATION plus explosion also forced another glitch RESET, creating the timeline where Gaster and all of those who perished in the lab never existed, and creating the situation with Alphys and Flowey.
Chara develops her console quite a bit after Flowey’s conception, and by this point Flowey’s been killing and RESETTING and abusing his powers.
After realizing who Flowey was, this naturally upset Chara. She eventually pieced together what happened by observing, and found that she remembers through the glitch RESETS. So she basically watches Flowey turn everyone’s lives into his play things until, you guessed it, the DETERMINATION from the previous timeline with Gaster manifests itself as Frisk, the first and only pure RED soul with no base attributes.
Frisk’s DETERMINATION surpasses Flowey’s, and Frisk takes over the timeline.
In this story, Frisk is initially a coward who runs away from all fights, but soon they start to realize their power and they become a bit more kinder. Chara is also guiding them as the “narrator” and helping them through the underground.
They do a pacifist run. Everyone’s got their happy ending.
But then... they RESET.
Frisk is the only human Chara can itneract with, so she immediately questions what Frisk was thinking, and Frisk says that they want to save both Chara and Asriel from their fate. Seeing nothing wrong with this, Chara lets them try to save her and Asriel.
RESET after RESET, and nothing is working. Chara tells Frisk to give up, but Frisk gets an idea. They decide to kill--after all, they could just RESET to bring them back, and it might lead to a clue as to how to save Chara and Asriel. Chara reluctantly agrees to it.
This is the beginning of hell.
Frisk goes through RESET after RESET trying to figure out how to save Asriel and Chara, but nothing they do is working. Not even killing. So they get desperate, and start trying to kill everyone.
That’s when a “glitch” happens in Chara’s code.
As Frisk attempts a genocide run, both their and Chara’s LOVE goes up. However, Frisk aborts the first genocide run after killing Mettaton and they RESET, thinking that there had to be a better way... except the damage has been done.
Because Chara exists outside of the RESETS, Chara’s LOVE never RESET either, and this turned her cold. Hateful. She decided that Frisk’s attempts to save her and Asriel weren’t just a waste of time--it was a form of torture.
Chara decided then, “If this is a world of ‘kill or be killed’... wouldn’t it be better off dead?”
From there, Chara devised a plan to force Frisk into completing a genocide run. She started forcing Frisk into RESETS and claimed that she had no idea what had happened. After a while, she lied to Frisk and told them that the world was ending and Frisk needed to complete a genocide run in order ti fix it. Frisk refused at first, but all Chara had to do was be patient, and Frisk finally gave in and went to attempt a genocide run.
Cue glitch two.
As they were fighting Sans, it was Sans’ code that glitched, making him remember the tale of monsters being able to absorb a human soul. Thinking that there was no other way to stop Frisk from completing a Genocide run, he forces his soul and Frisk’s to fuse.
This also causes a RESET, and Chara’s LOVE is finally back down to LV 1. However, Frisk is now unavailable for her to talk to, because now Frisk and Sans are both neither human nor monster. Sans looks the same, except for his soul, which looked like this:
Tumblr media
The problem is, like Asriel and Chara, Sans had no way of knowing that Frisk would still have control over his body, and this causes a new kind of hell to be born as Frisk tries to complete the genocide run with Sans’s body and magic.
However, because Frisk cannot kill Sans without killing themselves and resetting, the genocide run cannot be completed at all. Sans also has a tendency to fight back for control before Frisk is able to get close to realizing this, so they are locked in an endless hell of Frisk trying to “save the world from the glitch they made” and Sans fighting to stop the from completing a genocide run.
And Chara could do nothing but watch.
She couldn’t contact Frisk anymore and tell them it was a lie, so she’s basically forced to watch their struggles with the guilt heavy on her shoulders that she caused this.
Cue the next Glitch.
Upon a RESET, Chara’s yellow soul was restored and Chara becomes the “eighth” human to fall into the underground, though she has no memories of who she is or everything that had happened. She is also wearing Frisk’s clothing, and only remembers the name “Frisk” at first, so she thinks she is Frisk. She eventually meets Sans and has to rely on him to make “Save points” but notices that he seems really bitter and pissed off at her for some reason when his eyes are white, and when they are red, he’s much kinder. She goes through the underground with her yellow soul and eventually uncovers all of what I mentioned before, and realizes that Frisk and Sans are still fused, and Frisk hasn’t gone on another Genocide run because of Chara’s appearance.
Despite Frisk refusing to kill, Sans refuses to give up their soul, paranoid that once he does they’ll just ruin everything all over again, and he blames Chara for their actions.
However the story is designed to be a series of mistakes and unfortunate events that no one person can be blamed for--Frisk’s first unprompted attempt at a genocide run corrupted Chara, Chara lied to Frisk in a plot to end the world, and Sans refuses to let Frisk’s soul go not just to keep them from hurting others, but to keep some control. None of these characters in this story are good or evil.
Anyway, Chara decides to complete a pacifist run, and it’s mostly the same from that point until just before Flowey turns into Asriel. Flowey knows Sans has Frisk’s soul, and tries to rip their souls apart--but Sans refusing to let go, makes it so Frisk’s soul and his split in half.
Frisk’s half-soul is enough to transform Flowey into Asriel, and then Chara finds her own DETERMINATION to overpower Asriel and complete the pacifist run. She gives her body to Frisk’s half-soul so they could live in their happy ending, and she and Asriel move on to the afterlife after the barrier is finally destroyed and humans and monsters can have their hopeful future once again.
Of course, Chara’s more than just this story however. She’s a break dancer, where as her brother was a ballet dancer, and their non gender-conforming interests is what gets them abused to begin with. However Chara also can play the violin and is an excellent programmer thanks to her being trapped in the LOADING SCREEN. However she’s also severely touch repulsed from living there for so long by herself. She’s also suuuper awkward and can be prickly to talk to. She’s cold, but she doesn’t really know how to be more social as her social skills are entirely wrecked at that point.
She actually hates all chocolate except white chocolate. Milk and Dark chocolate especially make her sick upon association with the poisoned chocolate bars she originally used to try to sacrifice herself to save everyone.
Anyway that’s my info=dump on my Chara from my one story and I love my daughter.

Rated a high +K for violence, mild language, horrific elements that may be disturbing to younger readers,  mentions of child abuse and bullying, character death that is sometimes permanent, and mentions of suicide that may be triggering. These elements remain relatively unchanged from their source material, which most all are for children, but discretion is advised nonetheless.

“so I’m a sentry in snowdin forest, right? I sit out there and I watch for humans. it’s kind of boring. fortunately, in the forest, there’s this HUGE locked door. and it’s perfect for practicing knock-knock jokes. so one day, I’m knocking ‘em out, like usual. I knock on the door and say ‘knock knock’. and suddenly, from the other side…I hear a woman’s voice.
“‘who is there?’ so, naturally, I respond. ‘dishes.’ ‘dishes who?’ ‘dishes is a very bad joke.’ Then she just howls with laughter. like it’s the best joke she’s heard in a hundred years. so I keep ‘em coming, and she keeps laughing. she’s the best audience I’ve ever had. then, after a dozen of ‘em, SHE knocks and says ‘Knock knock!’ I say, ‘whos there?’ ‘old lady!’ ‘old lady who?’ ‘Oh! I did not know you could yodel!’
“wow. needless to say, this woman was extremely good. we kept telling each other jokes for hours. eventually, I had to leave. Papyrus gets kind of cranky without his bedtime story. but she told me to come by again, and so I did. then I did again. it’s kind of a thing now.”
The human is still listening, eyes wide and mouth full of burg. Its LV is at 5, meaning it’s still definitely a murderer. But it’s hard to remember that after seeing it pass through the puzzles his bro set up with a smile on its face, watch it engage with them. Watch it Spare.
“one day, though, I notice she wasn’t laughing as much. I asked her what was up. then she told me something strange. ‘if a human ever comes through this door…could you please, please promise me something? watch over them, and protect them, will you not?’ now, I hate making promises. and this woman, I don’t even know her name. but, someone who sincerely loves bad jokes…has an integrity you can’t say no to.”
He doesn’t know what he’s thinking. He can’t shake the boat in a meaningful way; everything is on a schedule, and nothing he does changes. But he has to know.
“do you get what I’m saying? That promise I made to her…do you know what would have happened if she hadn’t said anything? buddy…
You’d be dead where you stand.”
He didn’t mean to speak so forcefully; slip out of his font and use the tone he uses when he Judges. But the effect is immediate. The human’s eyes widen in fear and it runs still.
In a way, that’s all the answer he needs.
But then it starts crying. The other occupants of Grillby’s start to look at them, and he squirms under the attention. It raises its hands and starts to move them. It’s crude Hands, not helped by how much it’s trembling. He manages to get most of it.
Didn’t mean—accident—thought she would stop—didn’t know—not me—not myself--
How old was this kid anyway? It’s shorter than he is, and that’s saying something. Their hands shake too much and there are bruises on their legs and under their sweater. Old enough to kill? You don’t commit genocide on accident, but if they were half as upset about it then as they were now…
What did they mean by not myself?
I’ll fix, they sign. I’ll go back and save her. I promise.
*RESET
He sees it that time. The world stops. He watches it move backwards, like someone were rewinding a tape.
sans wakes up in his bed, like he always does. Usually, it takes him a long time to gather up the energy to restart the timeline again. He’ll lie in bed until Papyrus wakes him up and demands he go to work, and sometimes after that. This time, however, he jumps out of bed and makes some corrections to his notebook.
don’t trust them
Four are the Stars An Undertale/Gravity Falls crossover By the Poor Sap Advocate
Chapter 1
“How’d you think we ended up down here?” Dipper asked as he looked around.
“We fell, of course,” said Mabel, who was in the middle of making herself a daisy chain out of the more squished golden flowers. She gestured upwards, where just the faintest glint of blue skies and sunlight could be seen.
“Do you remember falling down somewhere?”
“Nope!”
“I don’t remember Gravity Falls having any mountains big enough for…this,” said Dipper.
He tried thinking back to what happened. He remembered Mabel was planning a party for the reopening of the Mystery Shack, they were hanging out in the gift shop…flashes of red and blue…then nothing.
“And how are these flowers growing, anyway? There’s like no sunlight down here!”
Mabel looked back down at her daisy chain in confusion.
“Do you still have your grappling hook?” Dipper asked. “Maybe we can—”
Mabel was in the air before he could even finish that sentence. She loved using the grappling hook, especially when she had a legitimate reason to use it.
Mabel scaled upward towards the highest ridge of the cliff. She grabbed onto the ridge with one hand, then jumped as she tried to grab the ledge above. Her hand stop on the sky. There was a loud booming noise, as though someone has struck a gong. The sky began to ripple like waves in a lake.
Mabel tumbled back down onto the golden flowers.
“MABEL!”
“What was that?” Mabel said as she sat back up, as though nothing had happened. “It feels like I just ran into a wall.”
Dipper’s mind started racing. There was something at the top of the mountain, something not normal. More Gravity Falls weirdness to investigate.
He took another look at Mabel and the distance she fell, and decided he would investigate it once they were looking down at it again.
“There’s a cave this way,” said Dipper. “We can probably hike our way down from here and see if there’s another entrance that’s not blocked by paranormal entities.”
Mabel pulled herself off the ground and dusted herself off.  “You lead the way, bro!”
She had a new sweater on, a blue and violet striped design with a red heart in the middle. And for some reason, it felt very familiar to Dipper.
Frisk found themselves in the woods once again.
It was not the Unknown again, they put together quickly. It felt too…different. In fact, if it weren’t for the heat and the sun above, they could have thought they had made it back to the forests in Snowdin. It felt like magic was in the air.
Another thing different from the Unknown was how quickly they were able to find humans. And how many there were in one place. The sounds of crowds and traffic were audible within seconds, and they wandered towards its source.
It was hard to describe what they found. It was less of a house and more of a hovel.
“Alright, step right this way! The first tour of the new and improved Mystery Shack!”
The Cat wouldn’t be able to find them for a while. They could kill time, at least. Frisk wandered into the group and hid behind legs.
They were actually surprised that they were found so quickly. The Mystery Man leaned close to them, one eye inspecting them closely.
“Don’t think I didn’t see ya sneak in, kid,” he said. “Your parents in this group?”
They shook their head and shrugged.
“You gonna pay your way in yourself?”
They had to dig through their pockets a bit, but they managed to find a gold coin from the Underground and handed it to him. What shock he had that a child was carrying gold wore off on him quickly. He inspected it carefully, even going so far as to biting on it, before deciding he was satisfied and turned back to them.
“I don’t see too many kids with solid gold on them,” said the Mystery Man.
Frisk responded by giving him another gold coin.
“Good answer! Right this way, kid!”
Dipper took a step, and fell through the floor.
This was about the fourth time he had done that, and frankly it stopped being funny after the second. Mabel propped herself up on the pedestal and waited for him to come back.
“Hey, Froggit, you’re looking good today!” She called.
The Froggit in question gave an embarrassed burble, dropped a few gold coins, and hopped on its way.
“Why do they have so many puzzles leading up to their house?” Dipper asked as he emerged from the vent system.
“Maybe it’s a monster thing,” said Mabel. “Did the journal have anything about a kingdom of monsters?”
“Not that I remember,” said Dipper. “I just wish Grunkle Stan had given the journal back before all this happened.”
He took another step, and fell through.
Mabel took a bite out of the spider doughnut.
“Ew…crunchy…”
Dipper tumbled back upstairs.
“No journal’s gonna make you good at puzzles, bro,” said Mabel.
“The answer’s down there,” said Dipper. “I just can’t remember it all the way. Here’s another question: why would monsters have puzzles that are so easy to solve?”
“Maybe they’re just waiting for a stupid enough human to solve them,”
“They wouldn’t be waiting for human down here.”
“Toriel was.”
“And you trust her?”
“What?” Mabel asked. “She’s a delightful goat mother, how suspicious can you be of her?”
“I’m just saying,” said Dipper. “We’re stuck in the land of monsters, you were literally bounced off a shield preventing us from escaping, I almost got killed by a flower, and there’s this nice old goat woman who wants us to be her children.”
“You’re just being over-suspicious. She’s perfectly fine!”
“There is something I must do,” said Toriel. “Please stay here.”
She put her book down and made a beeline for the staircase. Dipper’s blood ran cold.
“…perfectly fine….” Said Mabel.
“We’re going,” said Dipper, already running to catch up with Toriel.
“That was a pretty cool snail fact though!”
It was hard to describe the Mystery Shack. If Frisk had to, they would say it was not worth the 2G. The decorations were fake; some insulting so, and some just insulting. The real mystery of the mystery shack was how readily everyone bought it.
They exited through the gift shop, fitting considering the rest of the tour, bought a map of the area with what gold they had left, and returned to the woods.
They had hiked through the forest long enough that they were decently hidden when it started to get dark. The Mystery Man may have taken their gold, but it was unlikely that anyone else would.
There was still no sign of the Cat.
Once they found a clearing far enough away that they wouldn’t be spotted, they curled in on themselves and fell asleep.
They were only asleep for about an hour when they woke up to the sounds of the Cat’s low growl.
He stood in front of them, ready to pounce. His eyes were focused on the bush in front of him, so much so that Frisk wondered if he could even see them. When they shifted and waved at him, he jumped into the bushes.
A very human-sounding voice screamed out.
It took Frisk a few tries of trying to grab him and pulling his tail to get the Cat to withdraw from the bush. Something was in its mouth. No...someone.  They were humanoid, barely the length of Frisk’s arm. Most of their hair was tucked under a red cone of a hat.
It was some kind of monster, Frisk realized. A gnome, if they had to guess.
Frisk looked to the Cat disapprovingly. The Cat rolled its eyes, but put the gnome down all the same.
The gnome didn’t respond. It ran past before Frisk could ask it any more questions.
The Cat said something, complaining about the gnomes trying to capture him and ride him into battle, but Frisk was only half paying attention. There was magic in these woods.

Sans andFrisk (parent and child)
Soriel (Sans/Toriel)
Rated G
"alright bucko, go pick something out," Sans said. The dark haired child went rushing out into the Dollar General. They had saved up their allowance specifically so they could get each of their friends something for Christmas, something small. Sans just wanted to pick up a couple bottles of bubble bath and some kitchen utensils for Papyrus.
He finished up before Frisk and so he waited just outside the front, looking in on the checkout stand every few minutes while he ate some off brand pop tarts. He made eye contact with Frisk as they exited the checkout stand. A wide grin immediately rose to the child's face. The child reached to grab Sans's hand as they exited but Sans must not have noticed, continuing to hold his two sparsely filled bags and swinging his hands away. The child frowned. They reached for Sans again and dropped one of their bags. Sans turned back with the sound of the items clattering to the pavement.
"aw geez kiddo. wasn't nothing breakable in there, i hope?" Frisk said nothing as Sans bent down to start picking up the spilled items, but they tapped him on the shoulder to make him pause while they began to scoop of the items they dropped.
"well okay then," Sans said under his breath. Maybe they just had something in there for him that they didn't want him seeing. It looked like nothing had broken, judging by Frisk's lack of reaction as they stood up once again. Sans shrugged, walking ahead of the kid again, leading the few blocks home. He looked up when he noticed a snowflake drift down onto his blue coat and suddenly...the sensation of snow falling onto his bare skull brought him back to over a year and a half ago, when he had still been living in the underground with his brother. He woke up one day, did his usual rounds, then went to that old door to make jokes with the woman behind it. It was her simple request, or rather, hefty promise put into simple words, which had changed his life forever. Not even a week later, that strange little creature had strolled out from that door, and he couldn't kill it like he'd planned.
He knew he could have never held one captive. They'd put up too much of a struggle, and he'd tire before he could find Papyrus or Undyne to take it off his hands so he'd have to. He had never really liked the idea of it, trying to reconcile the fact that it was just an animal. Its SOUL was upside down, just like a squirrel or bird's. He'd have made it fast. It wouldn't have felt a thing. Wouldn't have even known he was there...right...he had been capable of that...
No, he had been willing to make that promise if it meant he didn't have to do his job. In the end though...
He had to wonder how many times be had repeated that day. How many times had he met that kid in the forest? How many times had he shaken their hand? Allowed them to befriend his brother...
"Sans?"
The small voice was in front of him and he blinked back to the present when he noticed the kid was quite a distance ahead of him. He had really zoned out. He set his pace to catch up to them while they waited. Something wistful twisted in his non-existent guts as he closed the distance between himself and the 9-year-old. How long would it be before they did it again?
It was Christmas. He'd allowed himself to get comfortable with Tori the other day, her tacking up some mistletoe, and him coming up behind her. He'd startled her, him having teleported to her livingroom immediately after work. She instantly forgave him, laughing as she bent down to give him a kiss under the mistletoe. It was nice.
He felt warm and fuzzy, and he never wanted this feeling to end. But then he spotted Frisk, watching over the back of the couch and sticking their tongue out in exaggerated disgust at the clear lack of concern for cooties. It wasn't Frisk's disapproval of his and Tori's occasional displays of affection that bothered him. It was the sudden, unrelenting feeling that all of this could end. All of it could end on Frisk's whim. The kid could reset or go to an early save and all this could be lost. All of it. His brother's new job, Undyne and Alphys's wedding, his relationship with Tori...and he would only ever know in dreams and in an overarching feeling of deja vu.
It had hurt. Coming to that realization really hurt. It would hurt so much if it happened and he wouldn't even really know. What if he got further in his relationship with Tori? What if Alphys and Undyne really did have a kid and named Papyrus godfather like they promised? The future looked so hopeful, and the idea of all that being stripped away? It hurt. It hurt more because of how much Sans had come to love that kid. He was still in that weird, not-quite-dad but more-than-babysitter phase with the kid, but he loved them as much as Tori and Papyrus. He really didn't want to believe that someone he loved was capable of just...The kid had reset a few times by now if his theories were right, what's to say they wouldn't again? It hurt so much. He'd rather them get it over with sooner than later.
He'd begun walking in silence beside the kid for another block before he felt a tug on his sleeve. He looked back at the kid, but their eyes were downcast.
"Are you mad at me?" they asked softly. Their arms were too weighted down to sign, so their barely audible voice was all they had.
"wha?"
"Is it 'cuz of my report card? Mom tries to tutor me but I'm just not good at...I'll try harder to be better in math next semest--"
"woah, woah, buddy. frisk? why would you think i'm mad at you?"
"I can just tell." Frisk raised their eyes, looking at Sans in a way that left no room to argue. They knew he was upset, they just didn't understandwhy...
"oh, frisk i'm not..." Frisk's expression shown instantaneous disbelief at Sans's words. Sans shifted both bags over to one hand, and rubbed the back of his cervical vertebrae. He sighed, realizing that he could not lie to this child. This child was near enough able to read expressions like their mother. Like him. How is he supposed to tell them that he's not mad at anything that they've done in this timeline, but he's mad at them for something that could potentially just be a theory for him? He wasn't even really angry, he was more saddened and disappointed by what could potentially happen. The kid had power over all of their happiness, has small family's and that saddened and even frightened him. How many times had they done it before?
What he knew of this child was that they were a good child. Decently behaved, albeit a little bit ornery and mischief-making, but what child wasn't at their age? They seemed rather sweet and incapable taking away everyone's happiness but at the same time... He couldn't ignore the data and he couldn't ignore strange feeling of deja vu. They had, with 98.7% accuracy, done this a number of times. Maybe not this exact moment but he knew that they had at least some other time in the underground. More than once. Everything seem to line up to that. The kids' expression when he said certain things; the way they behaved as if they knew something was about to happen; the way they carry themselves all through the underground, fearless and with confidence of only someone who knew what they were dealing with.
It all lined up. And the fact that the kid had done this probably more than a handful of times, meant that they could do it again. Under what circumstances would they do it again? Did they do it because they were bored? Did they do it because they thought it was fun? Did they miss something the first time around and wanted to take a second look? He didn't have the answers, and that was kind of scary to him.
Frisk looked at him with that determined expression, one that demmanded an answer. Again, it was an expression hard to believe came from a child and suggested so much more.
"why don't we sit down," Sans said, pointing to the nearby bus shelter. The bus had just come by a few minutes ago so it would be a while before the next. Frisk obliged, setting their bags on one side and sitting on the other. They scooted over just so Sans would have enough room to also sit. Sans shrugged and sat down beside the kid, setting his bags at his feet.
"i gotta tell you kid, i really ain't exactly mad at you i'm just..." Frisk tilted their head to the side for the skeleton to continue. "there's something about you that's been eating at me so..." he trailed off. He thought of Toriel, of Papyrus, of Alphys and Undyne, even the kid. How happy they all were right now. Ready to open gifts in a week's time, ready to bring in the new year with shouts and cheers...and he thought of how quickly everyone had sought their own happiness. They were so newly freed. They should have so much time to learn and grow in the world, but in an instant, all of that could be taken away.
Sans twisted his hands in front of him. The ivory color of his phalanges stood out just enough to see against the white griund, even if one's vision were to blur.
"if you could help me out, let me understand why you did it? and just tell me, kid, are you going to reset soon? because if you are going to reset i'd rather you do it sooner than later."
There was a pause. Then suddenly Sans felt a pain between is browbones and his hand flew up to protect his forhead. He looked over at Frisk, the kid wearing an annoyed expression, pulling their hand back from where they had just flicked him. He hadn't even tried to dodge that.
"what the ffff-frick?!" Sans avoided harsher language narrowly, "i know the winter's got everyone in a foul mood, but that wasn't ice."
 Frisk rolled their eyes.
 "Pea-brain," they signed.
 "what?"
Frisk sat back, crossing their arms with a huff.
"I wouldn't do that," they muttered. Why was Frisk so upset? Because Sans had confronted them? Sans watched as they pulled their hands back and started signing.
"You know why I reset? You know why?"
Sans...raised a brow. He had a few guesses, but nothing solid. He shook his head.
"Because I messed up. I messed up bad." Frisk's face fell.
"It wasn't really my idea to hurt anyone. I never wanted to! I didn't...it was an accident. I-I was scared and... Sans do you have any idea what dying feels like?"
"...dying..?"
"Well... It hurts. It hurts a lot and at first I was.. I didn't understand. When I first fell into the underground I was scared and I was all alone and...There were monsters trying to hurt me so I thought they were bad and...human kids are always told monsters will kill them and then I was and I came back and I was really scared." Frisk swallowed thickly.
"so...you're saying..."
"I died. I died a lot. And I I was scared and I tried to fight back and the first time I killed someone I didn't-I didn't think too much about it because... It was self-defense. I thought it was just self-defense and so when the next time I died I thought... I didn't want to try again so...I look at my hands sometimes and I can still feel the dust. It's not at all like powder. It's gritty and it feels bad. It feels bad on the inside too."
"i've been to funerals, i know what dust is--" Frisk just kept signing. Like they needed to get it all out. They were signing almost too quickly for Sans to keep up with how small their hands were, but he didn't stop them again.
"When I found out that I could reset I thought how wonderful it was. That I could go back and I could try to do it differently. But then I still ended up killing people because I didn't know what else to do. I tried to talk with them and they still just hurt me and... Sometimes it didn't work out... But I had to try. I had to try and had to try... So I went back again and again and I tried a lot of different ways to spare people and it took me too many times to figure out and... I remember one guy, Snowdrake? I killed him a lot, because he wouldn't listen to me."
They paused to wipe their nose.
"stop kid. you're telling me than not only could  go back in time," Sans said, browbones knitting, "...you have some mysterious  power to go back in time, but you also went back in time just to kill the same people over and over again? No, no, okay, you didn't go back to do that, but you ended up killing the same monsters over and over again?"
Frisk swollowed thickly and nodded. Sans rubbed a hand down his face. He heard the kid sniffle.
"If I weren't so stupid I would have figured it out sooner and I would have never had to die so many times and-"
"shhh. shhh. hey kid i'm sorry i got you so worked up i... you're not stupid..." Sans sighed. What had been a nasty disgruntled sad feeling in his non-existent guts had transformed into something kind of like guilt. He thought up a lot of scenarios in which the kid would reset, but he didn't think it would be to set things right. He didn't think that the kid would have been killed so many times. God he had thought about...before he made that promise and that kid came through the door, before he got to know Frisk maybe he could have done it. But now...thinking about anyone else hurting a single hair on the little kid's head. This sweet, bubbly, weird, bug-collecting little kid just twisted up something disgusting in his soul.
"I am though," they countered."I wouldn't have to kill so many people just to not die. I... I'm so sorry Sans... I only ever reset because I messed up and I hurt people... And I wanted to try to take it all back and I know it's not realistic but... I just I hoped that I could forgive myself if I went back and I spared people. Spared everyone. So I tried again and again and again and... When I got it right the last time and I didn't have to hurt anyone... Then that was the last time I was going to reset... I'm happy now. We're all happy now."
Sans had pulled  kid closer to him. They were sniffly but not quite crying yet. But, heh, Sans didn't want them to see that he was close to crying. Voice muffled, they mumbled into his coat.
"I'm not going to do it again. Everyone's happy and I'm happy and I don't want to take that away from anyone," their voice cracked on the last syllable, "I'm not going to reset. Not ever. Not ever ever ever. Sans, I promise." Sans took a deep breath. This kid knew what promises meant to him.
"I got the ending I wanted. The true ending. My happy ending."
"yeah, i guess i sorta did too, kiddo."
Both their heads lifted when a car Pulled over on the side of the road just behind the bus stop. The passenger window rolled down on the familiar blue minivan and a familiar voice came from it.
"Greetings, strangers. Would you care for a lift home?"  It sure beat walking those last few blocks home.
Frisk wiped their nose again and Sans wiped his eyes. They collected their bags and promptly crawled into the van. It was a short ride home, but it was enough time for Toriel to give Sans a strange look. When they arrived home toriel gave Frisk the keys which brightened up the child's face, as having a house key made the child feel as if they had won the lottery. Or, at least made them feel a little more grown-up, unlocking the house by themselves. Sans immediately got the cue that he was not to leave the car until Tori had said something to him.
"Why wasn't Frisk wearing their gloves? Or their hat?" Toriel accused.
"um...that's actually, well, frisk kind of decided they didn't like blue today."
Toriel sighed. Frisk sometimes did that. Just decided on any given day they didn't like a certain color and therefore refused to wear it or refused to eat anything that was that color. They were a strange child, somethimes.
"be double-digits soon enough. gotta let them make their own decisions before long. i learned best the hard way, you know. can't feel much of the cold, but damn do my joints lock up if i'm not insulated well enough." Sans chuckled. Frisk had been adamant that the hand-knit things looked dorky with their initial stitched. And blue was their least favorite color today. They were a cute little thing.
"That is fair...why did they look as though they were about to cry when I pulled up?" Toriel's voice was soft now, looking back at Sans. She relayed concern not just for her child, but for the skeleton himself. She mist have seen his expression then, as well.
"uh...we uh...talked about some things, that are...kinda hard to explain, actually?"
Toriel gave him a dubious look.
"Sans."
"serious! it'd take two days to explain it in a way anyone else'd understand.. i mean, i ain't even really sure the kid'd want me saying..." Sans paused.
"you could ask them about it? kid's got a knack for explaining, actually." he offered. Toriel open her mouth then closed it again. She nodded, accepting his offer. She picked up one of his two bags and started to unbuckle her seatbelt. Sans looked up before reaching for his own seat belt. Through the window he saw Frisk looking out. Sans's browbones knit again. He was sort of angry at himself now. He loved that kid. He was upset with them, suspicious of them for no reason. Then the fact. That this child had died...that they, as a scared 8-year-old kid knew what it felt like to die...it made him nauseated. The fact they had killed monsters, knew what it felt like...it was kinda...they had gone back to try to fix it. They'd always have that dust on their hands, but at least they were trying to make amends and move on. He looked back over to Toriel as she open the car door.
"we've got a great kid, y'know?"

Day 23 - Charisk (Swapfell)
Is it... really a romance if it’s in your head?
Pairing: Charisik (Chara/Frisk)
Word Count: 1,135
Chara stared at the doorway, leading to the throne room. She was silent, just watching the queen water her flowers as she had done before. She knew if she took one more step, she would be heard, just like every time before. And then she would be killed without a second thought, as it always was. She watched for a moment before turning around, leaving the hall and going back to the Judgement Hall. She could still smell smoke from when Papyrus had confronter her earlier. She felt anger rise within her, as well as tears if frustration blur her eyes.
Where are you going?
“I can’t do this anymore,” she hissed, wiping her eyes. “Not again. I’m…. I’m going back to Asgore.”
You know he won’t let you back in.
“Then I’ll go back to Sans and Papyrus,” she improvised. “Just… just somewhere, okay?”
They’ll be disappointed. Especially Papy-
“Shut the fuck up!” she shouted into the hall, clenching her fists. “Just shut the fuck up, okay? For once, I just want you leave m-me alone.” Her breathing hitched as she angrily wiped her tears away with her sweater sleeve.
Chara, I-
“LEAVE ME ALONE!” she screamed, stumbling out of the hall in anger.
She sniffled, making her way through New Home as she hid her face with her hands. Monster saw her and immediately began pelting insults at her, calling her a coward and pathetic. She ignored them, though. Some even attempted to attack her, but she would just flee every time. She ran back to Hotland, turning herself off to all the shouting and stares she received. She took the River Skeleton’s boat back to Snowdin, where things were thankfully less heated. Frisk remained silent the entire time, but she wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing. For now she would count it as good.
She stumbled over to the skeleton house, where she saw Sans and Alphys in the front as usual. Both looked surprised to see her. “Human!” Sans exclaimed. “What are you doing back here? And why are you leaking from the eyes?” Alphys scoffed. “She’s crying, dumbass,” she muttered, causing him to glare at her.
Usually Chara would have stayed around for their spat, but she just burst her way inside the home, collapsing on the couch. She crossed her arms, slumping down on the cushions as she dried the last of her tears. It wasn’t long before she heard the door above her creak open. Out of her peripherals, she could see Papyrus lean over the balcony railing. She felt a light rain if ashes get flicked on her. “So, you gave up, did ya?” he sighed. He got no response. He took a moment to take a drag drag from his cigarette, raining a bit more ashes down in her shaking form. “How many times did ya try?”
“Forty-three,” she rasped, turning her head away. There was silence for a moment, before the shadow disappeared from over her. She suddenly felt a burning sting in her arm and she jolted back, looking up with tears in her eyes. However, no one was there except for the crushed cigarette on the floor. Anger flooded her being, determination being replaced with spite.
Perhaps if she reset, she could fight back this time.
No.
Chara grunted in annoyance, getting sick of this shit. “It’s the only way to go home,” she sighed, clenching her fist.
You can’t just give up here. You have to keep going. Stay determine-
“Yeah yeah, stay determined,” she sighed, an annoyed look crossed over. “It doesn’t matter what I do, she always kills be. Over and over. That’s all these monsters know how to do, and that’s all they ever will do.” She sat up and crossed her legs, looking down. “It… it’ll only be a few monsters.”
Chara… what would make you any better than them?
“I’m killing for freedom!” she spat.
Yes. And so are they.
Chara fell silent, slouching back into the couch. She was wishing she could just sink in and never emerge. Wouldn’t that be grand?
We can still get through. We just have to keep going.
“Yeah?” Chara scoffed, crossing her arms. “And just what makes you think that? Every monster so far has been trying to kill me!”
And yet you’ve made friends with every one of those monsters.
She stopped, her mouth open as she tried to think of a rebuttal. She just slowly closed it again, allowing Frisk to continue.
You made friends with Sans. You’ve brought Undyne and Alphys closer together. You got Grillby to stop trying to set you on fire. You’ve helped Napstaton find himself and appreciate the friends he has. If you can do all that, you can get through Toriel.
Chara gave a slow nod, feeling a slight bit more confidence. “Yeah… I guess you’re right.”
And I’ve been with you every step of he way, haven’t I?
She nodded. “Yeah. You have.” Through the fights and various loads she was forced to do, there were many times where she felt like just leaving and never returning. However, Frisk was always in her head to egg her on, telling her to keep it going and to stay determined.
She couldn’t help but give a small smile. “Thanks. For.. y’know, putting up with me.”
It was silent for a moment.
I enjoy going on this journey with you. I just want everyone to be free and finally be happy again. Like it used to be. I believe that we can get out of here. We can save everyone, and we don’t need to hurt them in the process.
Chara unfolded her arms, giving a small sigh. “But… but what if I can’t get past her?”
We’ll find a way. I know we can. And I’ll be with you every step of the way.
“Promise?”
I promise. No matter what you do, I’ll still believe in you.
Chara got up, smiling. “Alright. I you believe I can do it then… then I guess I can give it a few more shots. After all, she can’t hold out forever, can she?”
Exactly. Now let’s go load up on Starfait.
Chara nodded, now filled with determination. “Let’s go love everyone into submission,” she said, before exiting the house.
She made her way back to Hotland, dashing through the core and through New Home, before she arrived back at the throne room. Toriel was still tending to her flowers, having not noticed her. Fear welled up in her soul as she froze.
We can do it. I’ll be with you every step of the way.
Chara nodded, before taking a deep breath and entering the throne room.
She was going to free everyone. They were going to free everyone.

Healing What Has Been Broken - Chapter 22 - A Storyteller’s Past
https://youtu.be/u_Rgi24lH1Q
I do not own this video or song, it belongs to it's respectable owner.
I just think this song fits with Error all too well.
I am so sorry this took so long to come out! I was concentrating on 'Falling Into A Different Destiny' and all the wonderful stories in it and 'what if's' I could make in it. I was also working on some other stories that I have yet to publish that I am hoping to soon. I like to get to five chapters before publishing it, that or if it has more then enough words in it in the first few chapters.
I will not abandon this story, so please don't ever worry about that. I also had to decide on where I wanted to go in this chapter, as there were a ton of ways I could go about it. So I hope that the end product comes out well. I had like, five other full drafts of this chapter until I picked out this one to use.
I hope you all enjoy this chapter. Thank you all for being so patient with me.
-Start Chapter-
- Music.
Music filled the air, lighting up everything as the magic pulsed and played with the instruments. Playing in beat with one's SOUL was a normal thing, to let everything out into the open. To live and let live.
It was a normal thing for Sans to hear in his home and even outside. Music was one of those things, hobbies and ways of life, that stayed with the Monsters after the second barrier had been put up around their kingdom. It filled the whole Monster Kingdom with something more then negative feels once they were trapped once more.
The first barrier had been when they were trapped underground. But HE took care of it before losing himself to time and space after committing horrible acts right under the King's nose. -
"How could have this happened?" Vita - Life!Toriel - muttered to herself, rubbing her face as a few tears fell from her closed eyes. "How could have things gone this far?"
"The better question," Tori - UnderTale!Toriel - began, eyes stern and hard as she spoke to the others gathered. "is why did we let it go this far?"
"I say we kill every single one of them!" Doriel - Undyne!Toriel - growled out, slamming her hand on the table as her eye glowed ominously. "Fuck them up like they fucked him and now the rest of us up!"
"I second that notion." Rosso - Fell!Toriel - immediately spoke up after Doriel, a wide twisted smile on her face.
"I would like to know their reasons before any killing or hurting happens." Scramble - Swap!Asgore - added in, face sincere but eyes telling a different story. "Maybe they are just that stupid and had no idea what they were doing at the time?"
Muttering broke out in Vita's garden to where all Toriel's and their counterparts have gathered for a talk after the Chara's - or those in Chara's place - had given them the news of Error's passing via the Sanses and Papyruses in the place of the Sanses.
What those skeletons do not realize is that many others are aware of the RESETS and the parts those play in the whole thing. They do not hold the monopoly of having that 'honor' of remembering no matter what they might think. Codes change as time goes on as they are almost alive in a way. Few hold sway with Codes like the Destroyer and Creator does, but Vita is also a Goddess even if in her own AU.
It may not be much, but Vita can sway the Codes a bit, making those in her place be more aware then they should.
The Creator never noticed, but the Destroyer did. In fact, Error had laughed at what Vita did, in her face, one day when he was visiting Chaos doe what she did. So Vita took that as him not caring and loving that she got on up on the Creator.
But she only has little sway over the Codes. To find where life is, as life is her domain like Error's is destruction or Reaper is death.
In any case, everyone had gathered for they had to figure out what to do. For Reaper to kill someone that was not on the list was a great violation of the Law in ReaperTale. So much so in fact that Vita could call for his death or war, something which no RESET can fix or force to go away.
Many Toriel's and counterparts remember Error fondly. Sneaking glances and seeing him play with the Chara's when he could, giving them gifts and acting as their mentor and parent in a way. It warmed their SOUL that someone is taking care of their child when they couldn't anymore. But Error always went away when they tried to talk to him or invite him in for some food, just to talk.
It took awhile, but they figured out why this was.
Error in no way wanted the others - the Sanses and Papyruses - to find out that he was even near them. It would get back to the Creator. Chara and Error are the scapegoats of the Multiverse, so what would the Sanses do when they find out that Error had been near them? Blame him for everything and everything, make up reasons as to why Error would be there with them, or even just outright think that they were protecting them when in fact they are not. Then there is the fact that Error didn't want the skeletons to know that the Toriels know about everything. The messing of the Codes would be blamed on him as well if that got out.
Vita sighed as the talking got louder and louder. Thinking of Error's death confused her. When one dies, she should be able to feel it in a way, if she concentrates she should find out just where their SOUL now is, where is shattered at before turning into dust. But when she does that for Error, all she feels is a VOID. Then again, Error died in the Anti-VOID. Something that has never happened as time has no place in there. It felt alive yet not, like it was so far away yet connected.
"ENOUGH!" Ruin - Horror!Toriel - suddenly screamed out, making the others freeze and quiet down.
Ruin breathed in heavily, looking to everyone. Error was such a nice Monster to her, bringing her food in his own way. Sometimes giving some to Chara for them to take to her or through a portal. Scream talked through her door sometimes as well once his brother is off on 'Missions', telling her about Error giving him food or one time cooking with him. Error was such a good Monster, unlike many others. It burned at her and made her want to make some...pie. Her kind of pie.
"None of this matters!" Ruin hissed out, insanity showing as she glared out at everyone. "What matters right now is what we are going to do now?!" Ruin took in a deep breath, looking to her Counterparts. "Do we let this go until our end? Let the skeletons think that they are above everyone, making decisions for us as they think that remembering gives them that right?" Here Ruin growled, twitching slightly. "Or do we do something about this? Try to fix this mess? Show them the errors of their ways for doing this to us, to Error? Let this end in one last consequence before the end?"
"....It's all going to end no matter what we do." Royal - UnderKeep!Toriel - "Too many AU's exist now, the Creator has made way too many after Error....left us." Royal closed her as, looking so pained before she opened her eyes back open, looking grim. "But I do not wish to die letting the skeletons think we knew nothing, that we are lesser for not knowing. I do not want to die letting them get away from this. The Multiverse ending might be their consequence for their actions, but I want to add into that."
"Heh!" Waltz - Dance!Toriel - laughed sadly before nodding along. "I say that we get into touch with Error's friends. Hold a funeral for him - he deserves that much and so more - and then we talk about what we can do with them. They deserve to be apart of this. The Charas at the least deserve some closure before we all join him in the end."
"....We will hold the funeral here, not even the Creator or Reaper can get in my garden unless I allow it." Vita eventually stated, opening her eyes and looking to everyone. "I ask that you invite your Charas and Sanses that Error favored. Once everyone is here, we will hold it and a memorial before sharing our ideas with them."
It was time to show the skeletons that they are not the only ones who remember, that not only their opinions matter. That Error and their children did not deserve all this hate only for them to damn them all because they didn't like the yin half of the Balance.
Hell have no fury like a Mother scorned.
- Pain.
That was mostly all that Sans could remember in his time Underground. HE caused Sans and Papyrus so much pain, before they had even took the names 'Sans' and 'Papyrus' as their own. Sans couldn't even remember HIS name, all he could remember most was the pain that was given to him daily.
HE talked about saving Monsters, that Sans and Papyrus were the tools that would be used to get them out of the prison that they were in. HE talked over their scream of pain and Mercy, saying that he would be the hero, the one to make things better, to fix everything.
Sans could remember one time running away after a few months after Papyrus had shown up. He can't remember how he and his brother were made, but all he knew was that he didn't want the baby to go through all that he had. So after waiting, the moment arrived and he ran for all that he worth with the baby bone in his arms.
He ran and ran. Reaching Snowdin. The snow cold and biting, he could hear the sounds of metal. Fear clawed at him, running to hide behind a building and praying to the Stars above that they wouldn't take them, that someone else would find them and keep them.
But sadly those prays went unheard as the guards under HIS thumb found them, dragging them back unseen.
HE made sure that his displeasure was known once they got back.
Pain overtook so much, overtook his whole being. Time held no meaning for so long after that, all that matter was surviving the pain.
At the least, Sans knew where his high pain intolerance came from.
Still doesn't change the fact that most of his childhood was filled with pain screamed and begging for Mercy, calling for help.
No one came no matter how many times he screamed, not even as his blood staining everything around him as he cried out to the other workers. No one looked twice at him or his brother's tears and screams.
HE made sure of that. -
"He's alive." Nightmare whispered before a slightly crazed grin worked it's way his face as a laugh sounded out in the meeting room in his mansion. "That son of a bitch is alive!"
Cross shifted as he sat next to Swap, looking at Slayer's, Dust's, and even Horror's wide smiles. "Yes, Swap told me what Error told him about magic. His strings are still up and glowing, so that means that he is alive."
"But then where is he?" Slayer asked, smiling dimming in thought. "Error wouldn't hide from us or the Charas if he had a choice.....So what is going on?"
Nightmare's laughing stopped abruptly, thinking on it. "Error could be anywhere, trapped or stuck even." Nightmare leaned forward on the table, looking at everyone. "The Anti-VOID is a mysterious place after all..."
"None of know how it works, only that time holds no meaning there." Dust finished, twirling his knife with a frown. "It could be a minute to years in there, you would have no idea."
"The only way Error kept track of time was by watching everything through the portals." Swap offered, not even flinching when all the 'bad' Sanses turned their attention to him. Swap knew they wouldn't touch him, not when Error claimed him like he did with them. They had claimed Error as one of theirs as well, a two way street. They were all in this together. For Error. How Swap wished he could slap his brother across the head for doing this, trying to kill of Error for something that was sadly needed. "Error also mentioned 'Voices' telling him things. I couldn't hear them....But now that I know about the Balance and everything else I wouldn't throw out the thought that there are actual Voices in the Anti-VOID."
"Magic is apart of the caster...." Horror muttered, making Cross straightened once a thought hit him.
"If magic is apart of the caster..." Cross gulped, hope filling him up. "Then can't we use Error's strings to find him? Shouldn't the strings lead us to him?"
"But how would we go about doing that?" Slayer asked, glancing to everyone. "The Strings come from nowhere. In all various directions."
"....We don't need the strings in the Anti-VOID." Swap's eyes lit up with a realization. "Any thing with Error's magic can work. I remember him forming his strings into dolls before. Those dolls are, or were, his strings. And I remember my-Stretch talking about a machine that could travel across AU's. If we take one of those machines, maybe we could tamper with it to take us to Error instead of a AU."
"No wonder Error favored you." Horror chuckled while the others were looking impressed. "Those cute looks are deceptive."
"....But what if he isn't in a AU?" Dust pointed out, making more the one Monster frown. "For all we know, he could be in the VOID."
"Never mind the fact that we would need a lot more magical power to turn a AU machine into a Error finder, let alone transport us safely to where ever Error is." Cross sighed sadly, eyes stinging. "We wouldn't even know where to began. We are on a time crunch."
Just as Nightmare opened his mouth, a portal opened.
Everyone pulled out there weapons, readying for a battle. Nightmare growled as the shadows around him darkened, not believing that Inky and Dream finally found his hideout. Dust readied his knife along with Slayer, a crazed look in their sockets. Horror hefted up his axe, wanting someone to fight with him.
Swap, meanwhile, did something he never thought he would do. He used his magic to form a Gaster Hammer. If Error was willing to hurt, kill, others for him, then he should be willing to do the same.
Even if the one he has to hurt is his stupid brother.
Everyone relaxed when it was Chaos peeking out of the portal however.
"What is it Chaos? Did they try anything else?" Nightmare growled, rubbing his forehead at the thought of all those skeletons on the 'good' side doing something more stupid then what they already have.
Choas shook her head with a sniff. "Vita and her Counterparts are going to hold a funeral for Error. They wanted to invite you guys as well."
"They know?" Slayer asked in shock, not expecting that.
Choas nodded. "Yes. Vita is the Goddess of Life, she does hold some sway over the Codes. Enough to make her Counterparts more aware like how the skeletons are."
"Did Error know about this?" Dust questioned in confusion. He thought Error would have mentioned that once to one of them.
"He left the Toriels and others alone, just happy that our Mothers were aware of us and the parts we play." Chaos gave out a sad laugh, eyes watering. "Duncle Error didn't want the others on his case if they ever found out about it, and that he was even near any Toriel."
'Vita....holds sway with the Codes when life is at play...' Nightmare's face lit up, a grin growing on his face. "Hey, Chaos....."
Humming, Chaos looked to Nightmare. "Yes?"
"What would you say if I told you that Error was alive and we have a idea on how to find him, but we will need Vita's help to do so?"
"WHAT?!"
- Stars.
It was what greeted all Monsters as they came out of the barrier. Quiet awe mixing in with horror of something unknown. Something had happened to break the barrier, but yet for the life of them they couldn't remember. Something had happened, yet it was as if it was erased and scattered from there mind.
But Sans remembered what happened, even if vaguely.
HE had taken them to the barrier, sneaking them in with the warning to be quiet or else. Muttering all the while about them being ready, that they had enough magic and something else. Something about their SOULS being ready finally. HE laughed as he picked up a cube.
Only later did Sans realized that the small cube had been a small CORE. A small bomb ready to go off.
Sans knew he and Papyrus were expected to die there, HE was ready to finally kill them off to get the rest of Monster kind above ground.
What HE didn't expect was for Sans to do something about it. That Sans's spirit and HOPE was not yet broken. JUSTICE and VENGEANCE had screamed at him to do something, so he did. All he had to do was wait for the right moment.
When HE sat down the cube, hooking up Sans and Papyrus to it, Sans waited.
When HE turned around after turning on the Cube, Sans screamed for all he was worth, ripping off the cables and cords on him, making Papyrus do the same. The little bones was always great about following his older Brother's lead, Sans made sure to teach him that so that Sans himself would get the worse of the pain. Sans would do anything for his brother, even take all the pain.
It was on reflexes along that HE yelled back, before quieting and trying to get them to be quiet as well.
But the damage was already done.
The King himself busted in, guards coming in soon after. It was a mess, one that caught the attention of other Monsters as they heard the commotion inside the castle. They must have been worried about what was going on, because it soon became crowded.
With HIM screaming at the King, everyone screaming to be heard, Sans had the moment to act. Seeing that the Cube was starting to glow, he grabbed the cables and wires and clipped them on silently and swiftly. Once that was done, with HIM being to distracted to notice, Sans moved Papyrus out of the way.
Sadly, that caught HIS attention.
HE reacted, reaching out to grab onto Papyrus. Sans couldn't remember much after that, all he knew that there was a blue flash, screams and then, the barrier falling to pieces right in front of everyone's eyes.
Then, they were standing on a cliff, looking up to the stars.
HE was gone, never to come back again.
The Projects were finally free from their hurtful creator. -
"....You know, when the fight was going on, Slayer said something interesting to me...." Color muttered on his medical bed, his chest bandaged up along with his arms and legs, looking to the other Skeletons that were with him in the medical bay.
Classic was sitting in a chair, nursing his head as he was one of the one's that Nightmare had shoved out of the way once the whole gang stormed into the meeting. G was on a different bed, slightly curled up as he rubbed his ribs. Outer had his arms bandaged up from taking Dust's attacks, trying to shield his face from the attack. Slim was sitting in the corner, wrapping up his leg that had been hacked at by Horror, luckily Slim had moved just in time so it wasn't actually hacked off. Edge was also in the room, being called in to help with all the wounded as a last resort as so many were hurt, helping out in his own way as he sorted through the bandages and healing ointments.
Other Sanses and Papyruses were in other medical rooms, taking care of those hurt or even dead, some cleaning up the dust piles, Dream was with Ink, and others were busy evacuating the other AU's to the Originals as two other AU's had just been destroyed somehow.
"Does it really matter what he said?" G scoffed before groaning in pain, talking making his sore ribs hurt all the more. "Doesn't change the fact that those fuckers killed others and hurt us!"
".....What do we know about Error?" Color asked aloud, making everyone freeze and look to him. "And I don't mean things we know from Ink or others, but from Error. What do we know about him for a fact and not from second hand information?"
"We'll, he destroys AU's for one." Outer eventually muttered, breaking the silence. "That much for sure we can confirm."
"But for what reason?" Color asked right back, eyes focusing on the others sharply. "Why does he destroy? Do we know for sure? And even then, what does he do when he's not destroying?"
Classic opened his mouth, only to shut in shock once he couldn't think of anything to say. Outer frowned. "Ink said-"
"Forget what Ink said!" Color hissed, eyes narrowing into a glare. "I'm asking what you know for sure! What you saw for your own eyes or heard from Error himself!"
".....He doesn't come to my AU anymore." Outer admitted aloud. "Not after he found out that I have been telling Ink when he was there or anything else I heard."
Edge straightened, eyes lighting up yet turning into a harsh glare once a memory hit him. "Besides when he used to steal my chocolate, I've seen him with Chara before..." Edge paused before going on over Classic's growl. "...Giving them a doll."
"A doll?" G questioned, slowly straightening while looking at Edge in disbelief. "You're joking."
"No." Edge shook his head, growling as he rubbed his chin at the memory. "At the time I was too angry at seeing him in my AU in a genocide run. But looking back on it, he wasn't making any threatening movements, leaving as soon as I can storming up. Chara wasn't happy though and made that noticeable throughout that whole genocide run." Edge shrugged, frown growing harsher as he thought back to it. "Th doll was well made too. I think it was....was a doll of themselves. Not something one can buy at a store."
"....I've attacked Error before, along with my brother." Slim admitted aloud lowly, not looking up from his legs. "I've broken him and hid his bones all around before. And do you know what he did?" Slim chuckled, making everyone flinch. "He laughed. When my brother offered for Error to be his pet, Error laughed and thanked him for the offer. Thanked him for making himself laugh, because it had been so long since he had laughed." Slim finally looked up, eyes searching for a answer from the others. "Error didn't hurt us, besides in self-defense now that I think about it. We started it all and he ended it by leaving.....He didn't destroy our AU for out actions....So, what does that mean?"
"So Error, the Destroyer, made dolls for kids, laughed, doesn't go to OuterTale anymore because of Outer being a tattletale, and doesn't destroy AU's for the slightest of threats to him." G rattled off, looking to Color with a slight glare. "Where are you going with this?"
"What I am aiming for is that we know nothing about Error!" Color snapped back. "Slayer told me, ranted in anger even, that Error saved his SOUL." Classic's head shot up along with the others, eyes going wide. "Error apparently convinced Nightmare to stop messing with Slayer's SOUL, making Slayer able to feel again. It is Slayer's choice to stay with Nightmare's gang right now. He was down right hysterical that we killed off Error."
"....But why would Error save another's SOUL?" Outer frowned in confusion. "He's the destroyer."
Color opened his mouth, but Classic cut him off before he could say anything more.
"What does being a destroyer mean? Why destroy at all?" Classic muttered aloud, rubbing his face as sweat started to form. "All we know about being a destroyer is from Ink, and even then why does Error destroy the AU's that he does. Slim is proof that he doesn't go after every AU."
"...Thinking back on it, Error never destroyed a Original AU." G said, horror dawning on him. "It was always a copy of that AU, never the Original."
"If he can make dolls, that means he can create." Slim laughed darkly. "Meaning that Ink lied to us already. He always said that Error could never create anything much less a doll."
"We know nothing about Error." Color laughed almost hysterically, hands turning into fists as he thought back to his fight with Slayer. "That means we don't know his motives, his reasons, his likes, his dreams and desires." Color closed his eyes in pain. "We forget that Error was a Monster too, like us. No one is truly purely evil....Right?"
"....You know, I heard something when Nightmare was attacking Ink." Classic's face was paler then pale, sweat coming down as his eyes were wide in horror. "Nightmare said it was Ink's fault this was happening. That he was a 'Balance Killer' and the 'Yang' to Error who was called 'Yin'. I didn't think much of it at the time because of all the fighting, but now looking back on it....."
For the first time, doubts started to form in all their minds. What was Ink keeping from them? Was the Creator telling them the truth? What was a Balance Killer? Who was Error really? Did he come from a AU? Why did he start destroying? Was it really from anger? And if it was anger, why is he anger with the AU's to start with? All these questions and more swirled in their minds, but they couldn't find any answers. Besides, how could they get any answers now when the only person who can is dead and gone now?
What did they truly know about the Destroyer?
Nothing.
That scared them more then they ever wanted to admit.
- Trapped.
That was what happened once more to the Monsters after a few years of coming out of the first barrier that trapped them.
After coming out, all Monsters followed the King and Queen into the abandoned kingdom that was below the mountain they had been trapped in. The ruins of their old kingdom still standing even after the war. Buildings still standing even as the plants slowly over took them.
For the next few years, Monsters slowly making their Kingdom grand once more. They found cattle in the wild that they had used to raise, fields of over grown vegetables that they used to grow, they used everything around them to make their Kingdom a home once more. They found old instruments, started to regrow everything they would need. Made farms and lives as time went by.
Sans was finally starting to be happy along with his little brother. Everything was finally looking up for them.
But as soon as their Kingdom was once a home, once mostly everything was whole and fixed, the humans found out about them being free.
Mages were called upon once more to trap the Monsters. But because trapping them underground didn't work, then trapping them in the kingdom they made for themselves should. Why would Monsters fight then? With having air and the sky with them now?
Sans could admit that if they had left later, when the humans forgot about them, then maybe they wouldn't have been trapped once more. But why should they wait for another race that might always hate them?
The King tried hard to talk to the humans, but they didn't listen. Soon a barrier was put up around the whole kingdom, the entrance - where the main magic was to the barrier - was behind the castle. Only a human could leave and come in the barrier, just like the old one. It stung at many Monsters, but with the sun shinning down on them and the stars greeting them every night as fresh clean air and wind played with their hair and fur, they learned to live with it. Many felt it was better then being forced underground again, so they left it as that.
Sans and Papyrus then started learning, teaching themselves and getting lessons to live and make a living. Papyrus learned how to play the harp as Sans learned how to play the violin. They also learned how to sew, making themselves clothing and even dolls, puppets as well.
They also started figuring out just what their magic could do. Gaster Blasters and Bone attacks, turning another Blue. But Sans favored a weird sort of magic that only he could do. Glittering light blue strings that shinned beautifully to Sans that came from his hands. With time and practice, Sans was able to control them.
Then, the first human came tumbling through the barrier. A little human named Chara.
The King and Queen took them in as their own, letting the human become siblings with their son, Asriel. But tragedy struck, ending with the human and Prince dying. Sans and Papyrus cried with so many others that day, wishing that it didn't happen. Sans loved playing with Chara, he even given Chara the first doll he ever made. It was a simple white doll with red button eyes and brown string hair, with a little green and yellow sweater sewed on. Sans made Chara a doll of themselves as a present. Chara's smile was worth all the bandages on his fingers. Asriel and Chara both complemented Sans on his new red round glasses with Papyrus, making him feel better about wearing them.
They all had been friends, no their stings had been cut short by cruel fate.
Humans came inside, trying to start trouble, but the Royal Guards dealt with them. SOULS were kept in the castle, just in case as the King stated. Soon, the Queen vanished, never to be seen or heard from again. Many mourned the lose of their Queen, but they must move forward.
To make a living when the got older, Sans and Papyrus become storytellers. With Papyrus playing his harp for the background music, and Sans moving the puppets with his strings and painting the story alive with his words. Magic had even chosen Sans to be the Judge, much to Sans's shock and Papyrus's happiness. Papyrus then strove forward to become one of the Royal Orchestra and Guard as well, training under Undyen to become a better fighter while practicing the harp whenever he could.
Everything was fine now, not great but fine. Sans loved his life and was fine with it all as he grew older along with his little brother, Papyrus.
Then a human child came into the Kingdom and decided to play God. -
"Are you sure about this Inky?" Dream asked aloud as he walked behind Ink, looking nervously to the endless white around him. "You think they'll actually know anything?"
"They are apart of the main Codes, they should know something at the least." Ink assured Dream, smile growing once a little body came into view. "Core, I have some questions that I would like to ask you."
Core - Core!Frisk - smiled up at Ink, greeting the two skeletons cheerfully. "Hello Ink and Dream! I'm happy to ask any questions you might have." Then their smile fell as they looked up to the two worriedly. "I also have a question to ask as well."
Ink and Dream glanced to one another before Ink looked back down at Core with a smile. "Sure! It's only fair. What's your question Core?"
Core bit their lip, looking worried. "Have you seen Error? With how the AU's are...." Core shook their head in frustration. "I need to see if something is wrong with him. So do you know where he is?"
'Shit.' Ink coughed awkwardly while Dream looked away with a sad frown. "About that......" Ink sighed, closing his eyes and decided to just blurt out. "It was decided by the Council to end his destruction. As he wouldn't just stop destroying, he all ganged up to form a army to take him out. Error is dead."
It was silent for a moment, Core's face painfully blank. Then, they screamed.
The two skeletons quickly backed up, faces worried before the screaming cut off. Core's face now back to normal even as they breathed heavily.
"....You are idiots!" Core hissed, dark eyes turning into a glare. "Now I know the reason why the whole Multiverse is going to hell!"
"You know the reason!" Ink hurriedly went up to Core while Dream clutched his scarf, a bad feeling building up in his SOUL. "Please, how do we fix this! Is there a new destroyer or-"
"It's because of your stupidity!" Core cut off Ink harshly making Ink flinch back. "Do you have any idea what you have done?!"
Ink opened his mouth, only for Dream to step up and speak before he could. "No, we don't." Dream admitted, making Ink close his mouth. "That's why we came to you, hoping you knew something, anything."
Core searched their faces for a moment before sighing, closing their eyes as if in pain. "I.....I don't know the whole story or reason for it, the Charas and Error are very closed lipped about everything....Probably afraid that if someone found out then they would try something stupid like you all did..." Core slowly opened their eyes, frown as she looked to the white ground. "Error is needed in the Multiverse."
"Needed?!" Dream gasped in shock while Ink jolted. "What do you mean needed?!"
"That's just it, I don't know the reason why he is needed. Just that he is fundamentally apart of the Multiverse's Code. Even if I am apart of the main Codes, I can't make sense of everything nor do they tell everything. It doesn't help that Error is a glitch, a literately error in the Codes. So I can't make much sense of it all even if I wanted to, it changes too much for me to." Core's head snapped up, making Ink and Dream take a step back. "That's why everything is going to hell! Take away Error, his Codes in the Multiverse no matter if it is a glitch, is taking away apart of the foundation to the whole Multiverse! Without him here, for whatever reason the Multiverse may need him for, it is making the Multiverse fall apart! It's your fault this is happening!"
"No!" Dream screamed back while Ink vomited a rainbow, tainting the white with it's colors. "T-That can't be true! All he is a negative force! Bent on destruction! If we didn't get ride of him he would have fought to kill off everything!"
"That doesn't matter in the end, not to the Codes!" Core counter back harshly. "All that matters is that Error is just as important as Ink in the Codes, in the very foundation and laws that build and make the whole Multiverse!" Core took in a deep breath, trying to calm themselves. "While I have no idea why or the reason for it, it doesn't change facts. Like the fact of the matter is that without Error, the whole Multiverse is doomed. We have already seen the start, AU's are destroying themselves because of what is going on in the Codes."
Horrified silence over took the trio before sobbing over took it.
Dream sobbed harshly as everything hit him, Ink followed after, vomiting once more as he sobbed out.
"So, that's it?!" Ink brokenly laughed as he painfully started scrubbing his face. "We killed off Error, so now we die too?! Just because we wanted everyone safe, everything is going to end?!" Ink's laugh grew hysterical. "Error really did get the last laugh in this one! Kill him off, well, he's taking us with him! Bastard is most likely laughing where he is at now, having the time of his life while this goes on!"
"Who said he was dead?"
Core's question brought up Dream and Ink short, their cries stopping in shock.
"C-Core don't joke like that!" Dream laughed painfully, face twisting in deep pain. "Please....Don't joke like that right now....Not when it is all ending for us....please..."
"I saw his jacket and dust pile in his part of the Anti-VOID." Ink muttered aloud numbly, eyes blank as he thought back to then. The pride he felt gone, leaving on horror. The doubt he had been feeling at the time coming back for force. "He's nowhere in sight or in any AU's. Error is dead, he has to be."
"That's funny, because when I went to check in his part of the Anti-VOID, his strings were still up and glowing with magic." Core gave a brittle smirk. "If Error was dead, the strings would be gone."
Ink slapped himself, looking like he was shot. Dream's head turned so fast that it could have flown off. "Ink?"
"At....At the time, I wasn't think about that....Just about the dust and jacket...." Ink recalled aloud. "I didn't pay any mind to the strings or dolls, just that Error had to be dead because of the dust..."
"The strange thing is about Error's Codes." Core sighed at the mess this was, at the mess these skeletons created. "They haven't shattered or broken, it is like there is a VOID on where it he is supposed to be. Yet for some reason I can faintly feel his presence off of it. Like he is near yet so far."
Ink shot up, eyes becoming determined. "We don't have much time then. Thank you for the information Core. Dream lets go, we have a lot to do."
Dream hurriedly wiped his eyes, thanked Core and ran after Ink. "Ink, what are going to do now?" Dream asked worriedly, rubbing his hands together as if there was a chill.
"We are going to track Error down and bring him home." Ink stated, making Dream choke in shock. "We are going to tell the others that Error is still out there and that we need him back so that everything can come back to normal. We'll just have to make a prison for him instead of trying to kill him off." Ink sighed sadly at the thought of a chained up Error. "That way everything can become stable. We'll get Sci and the others working on a machine to take us to where ever Error is hiding. While we hunt for them, they can work on a prison that Error will stay in forever."
"The others are not going to take this well." Dream pointed out sadly. "If we tell them that Error is needed and that they helped off him..." Dream left the rest hanging, knowing that it wasn't going to be pretty. There might even be a riot.
"That's why we're not going to tell them everything right now." Ink stated bluntly making Dream gasp.
"What do you mean we're not going to tell them everything?!" Dream lowly growled, not liking the sound of that idea. "If not the truth, then what are we going to tell them-"
"We are going to tell them half the truth, not all of it." Ink quickly corrected himself. Dream huffed in frustration while Ink went on. "We are going to tell them that Error is still out there, alive, but we have no idea where. We need to find him and trap him permanently instead of trying to kill him off as it is obviously not going to work." Ink sadly smiled. "We add a bit of fluff in there, some details, and we are good to go. Let them come to their own conclusion on what is going on for now. If we told them the whole truth, everyone wouldn't work their hardest. We are on a time crunch here, no time for arguing and fighting with ourselves. Not with Nightmare's gang doing that for us."
Shaking his head, Dream couldn't argue with that really but had a bad feeling about it all around. "If think it's for the best Ink..."
Ink nodded determinedly. "I do." Then Ink turned and made a portal. "Now we just have to tell them all. After that I will make a open portal to the Anti-VOID so that we can hook up the strings to whatever is needed to hunt Error down." Ink shook his head. "I don't want any of you in that place for too long, it can drive someone insane."
While Dream walked through a portal, something whispered inside him, making his frown tightened.
'If the Anti-VOID can drive anyone insane....Does that mean it drove Error insane?' Dream gulped, looking at Ink's back. 'What......Do I know about Error? Why is he so important?'
Dream needed someone to talk to, no matter how badly Ink tells him to stay quiet on the matter. He needed another opinion on everything. Another pair of eyes to see what is going on and see if he is missing something.
So when Ink told everyone, Dream slipped into the muttering crowed and tapped a skeleton on the shoulder, making said Monster turn around with a frown.
"Classic? Can I talk to you?" Dream took in a shaky breath. "It's important. I...I would talk to Swap, but you know his brother wouldn't let him here unless he had to." Classic was the original Sans, the classic as it was. Who better to talk to when you can't go to your friend?
Classic gave his usual lazy smile. "Sure, you can talk to me about anything."
Safe to say after everything is said and done, more and more doubt started slowly taking everyone's mind. Sins started clawing up their backs with no one to take the blame.
Way more then one skeleton wanted to finally beat this bad guy so that everything would stop, that everything would finally be safe and perfect
More then one skeleton wondered if they had been blaming the wrong skeleton all along and if said skeleton was really the bad guy here. How can they be the true bad guy when they know next to nothing about their motives?
Classic was worried that he wouldn't like the answers he would get as Dream told him what had happened in privacy so that Ink wouldn't know.
- Murderer.
That's was all the Human child was. Kill and kill was all they did. The human has killed his brother so many times, had slaughtered his family and kin for whatever reason. They even had the nerve to try and shift the blame to sweet Chara, who loved the Monsters more then anything, more then their own race.
But Sans had the upper hand, he could remember the RESETS and used this knowledge against the human.
In the Judgement Hall, the human has never once gotten past Sans. No matter how many RESETS to the start of it all or just to the start of the battle. While Sans may act aloof and play the part of not knowing what was going on, he fought differently every time.
With his strings and Gaster Blasters, Sans made sure to not do the same attack like last time. He made sure that the human would never see what was coming. He also didn't always aim for the SOUL. Snapping one's neck is just as good as shattering a SOUL when you want someone dead. Sans didn't play fair or by any rules, he fought to survive, to live.
Sans fought with all the JUSTICE and VENGEANCE in his SOUL. It filled him up inside, fueling him no matter times he had been in the fight.
The skeleton lost his grip on time sooner rather then later. Years could have passed for how many times he has been stuck in the Judgement Hall fighting the Human, but Sans wasn't too bothered by time. All he was bothered about was finally killing the human off forever, to keep on wining. As long as he won, it didn't matter to Sans if he stayed fighting forever.
Because it meant that the human is losing, that he is taking away something they truly want so badly that they are killing for it.
Sans had always been a petty Monster.
But then, everything changed.
Sans smiled brightly up at his brother, who was strutting in his new orange waist coat that Sans had made for him, his red scarf flowing behind him as he walked in front of Sans. Papyrus is scolding Sans for not dressing up for the event, for the ball that was being held.
Shrugging, Sans didn't care really. It was the day before the human came into the Kingdom as the Human RESETED to the start once more. Fiddling with his red glasses, Sans playfully pouted and asked if he looked bad in his yellow jacket.
While Papyrus sputtered denials, everything stopped.
It was like everyone was frozen, time stopping still. Everyone but Sans that was.
"O R I G I N A L  A U  N U M B E R  F I V E ."
Sans froze as a Voice suddenly overtook his whole mind. Pain filled his senses, making him drop to his knees as he gripped his head in pain. Everything around him started moving once more, but differently. He could hear his brother calling for him, but Sans was no longer in the streets.
No. Sans was once more in the Judgment Hall fighting the Human child.
"S T R O N G , D I F F E R E N T . N U M B E R  F I V E  I S  U N L I K E  A N Y  O T H E R  M O N S T E R  M Y  C H I L D  C R E A T E D . U N L I K E  A N Y  O T H E R  A U ."
Sweating, Sans dove away from the swipe of a knife. Calling his strings, Sans tried to tie up the human as the Voice pounded in his head. Dizziness was slowly taking over him.
"Y O U  D O  N O T  P L A Y  B Y  T H E  R U L E S . T H A T  I S  G O O D  Y E T  B A D . I  C A N  F I X  T H A T .  J U S T I C E  I S  N E E D E D  N OW ."
Everything started to shake, the Human child cried out as everything around them started to crumble. Sans screamed aloud. Not because of everything around him crumbling, but because he could see his brother trying to get to him.
"Y O U  A R E  T O  B E  T H E  Y I N  T O  M Y  C H I L D ' S  Y A N G  F R O M  N O W  O N ."
Reaching out a hand, Sans sobbed as everything around him faded as something dragged him down. His brother's face twisted in pain. Sans tried to say something as white slowly started over taking everything. His little brother slowly smiled sadly, mouthing words that made Sans shake his head, fighting against the force that was dragging him away.
"Y O U  A R E  N O W  T H E  D E S T R O Y E R  T O  T H E  C R E A T O R ."
"Remember this my Brother if nothing else, I'll always love you no matter what my dearest Older Brother Sans. Thank you for everything and goodbye."
"NO! PAPYRUS! NOT MY BABY BROTHER! PLEASE, MERCY! ANYTHING BUT THIS-!"

Who is he?
Blood and dust covered hands was the next sight that greeted him. Strings hanged down right in front of him, almost mocking him with how bright they gle
S-e-A-r-N-r-S-ro knew the answer then.
He's nothing but a murderer.
Taking a step on a box, the strings come around his neck.
"Remember this my Brother if nothing else -"
CRACK -
"ERROR?!"
Error jolted up, wildly flinging himself and glitching horrible as hands gently but firmly held him down.
"Error?! Please listen to me! Your fine now, I got you!"
Error blinked, blurry imagines slowly becoming clear. Shaking, Error looked up to see Death looking down at him worry.
Looking around, Error finally saw where he was at. He and Death were in his bedroom as Null and Void were in one of the other rooms nearby having their second sleepover. Error could remember Death complaining that Error hadn't been sleeping the last week after the first time they had slept by one another, which Error admitted was true as he still doesn't see the point in sleep, so Death had used the kids against him to get Error to sleep at least once a week. Making the kids have their own sleepover once a week so that Death and Error could have their own.
Right now though, it was the middle of the night, the moon shinning out the window as stars twinkled around the orb in the clear sky. Error was laying down, hands tangled in the sheets with Death sitting beside him, leaning over him and holding onto his shoulders with worry and concern painting his face.
"Error?" Error grunted, shooting up and curling up. Knees to his head and hands to where his ears would be if he had any, Error curled himself up as tears started to fall to the sheets below, staining them.
"Please, Error." Death lowly pleaded, shifting so that he was sitting in front of Error, hands softly reaching out to wipe the tears away. "Tell me what's wrong so that I can chase them away." Death lightly shook as he shifted Error into his hold, holding Error close and cuddling him close to him as he could. "Was it a nightmare?"
Crying silently, Error shook as silent sobs racked his body. Leaning into Death, Error put his hands to his face. "i....I caN't RemEmbER...." Error choked out, his SOUL hurting more then ever. "I cAn'T RemEMbeR!" Error cried out in horror.
Death gently hushed the distraught skeleton in his arms, shaking as he rocked the other with words of comfort. Cooing out as he wiped away the tears that seemed to keep falling as the glitch in his arms sobbed out that he couldn't remember.
For some reason, not remembering hurt Error more then it should.
It felt like there was a void in his SOUL.
-End Chapter-
Well, here it is! I hope the wait was worth it and I am sorry about the wait. Here we get Error's backstory, his first suicide attempt and what is going on in the OM.
Error's backstory was a idea given to me in the comments mostly. The idea was that Error and his brothers were storytellers, with Error using his strings and Papyrus playing the harp to make stories. Together Sans and Papyrus are called the storytellers and they gave me the name 'StringTale' for the AU.
But I also had to make up a lot about the AU to make it fit in the story. So everything but the name, that Error does puppet shows, Papyrus plays the Harp, everyone plays a string instrument, and that it is set in a more older/fantasy setting is my idea. I had to make up a lot more details and other things to make it a full AU, like about Gaster and everything else, for Error to be chosen and the reason why. More details on this AU might come about later in the story as I think on this new AU that I made with the help of others. For example, String!Toriel was the one to teach String!Sans(Error) how to sew and knit.
I also looked up StringTale online to see if there was one already like this up that I may be able to use, as I didn't want to steal anyone's idea as my own. I found one called StringTale, but it was about Chara and Frisk using strings to control the Monsters. Nothing with what I did in here but I still kept the name as it fits in with Error.
Fate chose StringTale!Sans to be the Destroyer because of how different he was. He had never lost to the human and played the game in order for his AU to survive. His SOUL was also a deciding factor, as JUSTICE could work well in making sure that balance is even. Fate just never thought that more traits could come to Error's SOUL as time went on. He was also chosen because his AU was one of the last standing Original AU's from when Inky just started out.
StringTale in this story was the fifth AU Inky ever made, one that he eventually forgot about. That is why the AU is so different from the rest. Why the Monsters actually got above ground without the human only to be trapped again. Inky had a lot of creativity before he went into a pattern, before he really knew what he was doing he was doing it all blind pretty much and a lot of first created AU's back then were unstable because of this. StringTale was one of the originals, the only one in fact, to survive and actually be stable enough to stay alive before Fate destroyed it as they pulled Error into the Anti-VOID.
String!Sans impressed Fate, and that was his downfall even if he didn't know it. By not going by any rules like UT!Sans does - by going in the same pattern in the Genocide fight - he caught Fate's attention that only grew as time went on. So Fate chose him to be the destroyer once they saw Ink going out of control, as they had been looking through all the AU's until they founbd the perfect Destroyer. They eventually caught sight of String!Sans. This is bad as you can tell. Because once you have Fate's attention, your life is no longer your own.
Your just a pawn in Fate's chessboard.

*Well, it’s a long tale, but I’ll start at, well, the start.
*The story starts out the same. Chara has a plan, they die, give their soul to Asriel, go to the surface, Asriel can’t bring himself to fight back, they both go back to the underground, and Asriel dies. But that’s where my AU changes. I woke up, in that flowerbed. But I wasn’t soulless, that was the glitch of my universe. Me. It made no sense, sure, but I still had my monster soul, fully intact. Yet, I still couldn’t feel anything. Two options, really, my mind had blocked my feelings off, or maybe my soul was just a ghost, and not functioning as a soul. It didn’t matter. At first, I tried to feel again. I tried to see if my parents could help me. Well, you know how that goes. So then… Then I started doing the Flowey stuff. All the resets. All the things I regret. I… I did try doing some things other Floweys probably didn’t though. I tried absorbing a monster soul. Toriel’s in fact. But it didn’t work. My monster soul, even though I couldn’t feel, and had basically lost all of what made me “Asriel”, I couldn’t absorb other monster souls, despite being a flower.  I remember being so frustrated by that fact, that I went on a killing spree. I was running out of things to do, and I figured, as a flower, I could take monster souls, even if they weren’t as powerful as human souls, but my own lingering soul stopped me.
*And then Frisk fell down. Not the Frisk that is my partner, but the Frisk from my AU. They were a small child, quite young, but as soon as I saw them, I wanted their soul. Finally, a human soul! I tried again and again to get the ones Asgore had, but either Asgore or Sans would stop me. Anyway, Frisk. When Toriel saved them from me, I followed and watched them. I was fascinated, a new toy! One that wouldn’t get old, like the rest of the underground. They travelled the underground, and they never killed, and I didn’t understand why. Monsters wanted their soul, why didn’t they want to be stronger? But they never faulted, sparing, and even making friends, with everyone. Even though I didn’t know it at the time, this was the first change within me. I couldn’t feel just yet, but this was the start. And finally, after hanging out with Papyrus, and even Undyne, Frisk reached the King. It was the first time I saw them fight. They didn’t, at first. They even let Asgore kill them a few times, looking for a better way. They tried talking to him, and they healed using the pie slice Toriel had given them. And I had already started projecting onto them at this point, as I wished Chara was like this, sweet and kind, and therefore I had started to see this human as Chara. The pie strengthened this, after all, how else would they have known to eat it? I guess I didn’t consider the fact they might have figured it out, but still. And then, as Asgore was finally weakened, they… They spared him. They couldn’t do it, they couldn’t kill him, even after dying to him repeatedly. And that’s when I stepped in.  I used my own attack on him, dusting the king. Finally, after all this time, I had gotten rid of him, the souls were mine! And I absorbed them, and dragged Frisk into a fight. And they lost, over and over, and they kept coming back. The souls wanted to help them, I could feel it, and I forced the souls to fight Frisk, and another soul would heal them, and I couldn’t stop them. They were overwhelming me, and I could do nothing. And then they rebelled. They left me, finally gathering the strength to break free. Frisk and I were alone. And I begged them to kill me, because I couldn’t get over myself and admit defeat. I didn’t really want to die. And they spared me. They refused to kill me. And I didn’t understand. And I ran away, ducking under the ground and leaving. I didn’t make it far. You see, I had made a mistake. During the fight, I had enough power to take Frisk and myself out the world, maybe even into the void. But that didn’t matter, when I lost the power, we were brought right back. But we ended up in the barrier. Now, I don’t think this was because of the fact I had a monster soul and 6 human souls at the time, as I brought Frisk with me, and the AUI had it on record of other Floweys doing the same thing. But now, I only had a monster soul, and I was stuck.  Frisk was stuck. So I turned around and started looking for them. But we were both lost in a mess designed to be impassable. And I looked for what felt like forever. I don’t know how time passes inside the barrier, but I can tell you, Frisk and I were trapped for months.  Yet neither of us seemed to tire or grow hungry. It was strange. Anyway, I had nearly given up looking for them. Hope seemed lost, but that’s when I heard it. A phone rang. I followed the noise. I heard Sans’ voice. And there I found them. They were holding the phone, crying. But they couldn’t seem to say anything. And Sans hung up. And they started crying louder. And then I approached them. I told them that if they reloaded their save, and befriended Alphys, they could get a better ending. And so they did it. I’m unsure why they didn’t reload sooner. Maybe they didn’t know they could? Who knows, I never ended up asking.
*And then we were both back, And Frisk was before the Asgore fight. And they did as told. They helped Alphys and Undyne, and went through the true lab, and at this point, I felt sure. Even though, honestly, they looked nothing like Chara, I felt so sure that they were. And as everyone they had befriended gathered around them, and I came in, after already absorbing the human souls, I had become too carried away. I knew that all the souls in the underground would make up the power equivalent of a human soul, and I would have 7 human souls, enough to achieve my true form. But, as expected, it didn’t work. The entire underground just ended up unconscious. I was lucky, unknown to me at the time, that action could have ended up with the universe destroying itself. Luckily, everyone who’s soul I had tried to take just passed out. And that left just Frisk and myself. Last time, the souls had rebelled. Now, they tried something new. And as I stared at Frisk, I couldn’t hide anymore. I knew they weren’t Chara, and I knew I had been lying to myself.
*And I knew I could feel everything.
*I began to cry. It was all too much. The scared little flower, crying. And Frisk reached down, and hugged me. And I asked them, I asked for their soul. Just to borrow it, I wouldn’t kill them. I knew I had done so much wrong, and I wanted to right it. I wanted to break the barrier. I took their soul, and they passed out. I used the power of the seven souls to finally free monsters Then I freed the souls, giving Frisk theirs back. And as Frisk woke up, I stood in my true form, Asriel. The others were still out, and I told Frisk the truth. Who I was, what I had done, and who I had mistaken them for. And they forgave me, hugging me. I told them, without the souls, I’d turn back into a flower. The others were stirring. I told Frisk to tell the others the barrier was broken, and then come find me. And I left. Back to the ruins. Back to their grave. I was scared. What if Frisk didn’t come back? What would I do? But after a while, they came. They told me that the others would leave soon, and now everyone knew their name. I told them I couldn’t come with. I’d turn back into a flower, and I had one last request of them. I summoned my soul, and gave it to Frisk. I told them to take it with them, and when off the mountain, maybe near those flowers, destroy it. I had done so much bad, and now I broke the barrier, the best action for me would be to finally be at peace. I wanted to be free. And they were sad, that was clear. But they agreed, and left me there.
*I had hoped my monster form would hold until Frisk did what I had asked. I wanted to die in my true form, but I found myself a flower once again. And I still waited. Only a short while after, I felt it. “Ah, that must have been Frisk crushing my soul.” I felt so calm, so ready. I expected to feel myself fade away, and be at peace, finally. But nothing happened. A cold emptiness flooded in. I was finally soulless, but not dead. I wanted to scream, to cry. I wanted to die, not still be here! This wasn’t fair. But I was in shock, and all I did was stare. Stare up into the light that was flooding down. And then, I wasn’t alone anymore. Someone else was there. I turned, but it wasn’t someone I knew. It was a skeleton. There were too odd things I noticed about him immediately. First, there were cracks in his face, second, he was wearing a lab coat that said “AUI” on it. He introduced himself as “Gaster”, a boss of the AUI. He explained what the AUI was, and I didn’t understand why he was telling me this. He laughed, and explained he wanted me to come join. I was in a glitched AU, and I had handled it well, finding a way to break the barrier despite it all. I broke it to him that I had done terrible things, and he laughed, and said that he knew, and that he had too. And he offered to take me away, to join the AUI. And well…
Tumblr media
*But after I first joined the AUI, I felt really bad. After all, Frisk hadn’t wanted to do what I had forced them to do. I had done what Chara had done before. And that made me think. What if, like Chara and myself, Frisk hadn’t actually done what I had asked. What would they do? If they tried to find me, I was long gone. I wonder about them, sometimes…

underrole chapter 3
- I WILL MAKE YOU PAY!! - Flowey shouted, out of his mind. He shut his eyes closed, the time to reset… but the reset didn’t happen. Flowey opened his eyes, in shock, just to see Wave still petting him.
- Are you STUPID? I tried to kill you and you touch my head like an idiot! Are you brainless???? Or you just wanna die? Because I can kill you all the times you want !!!! -
Wave was extremely relaxed and answered serenely. - Are you sure this is what you want? -
Flowey flinched, bothered. - YOU’RE ALIVE JUST BECAUSE MY ATTACKS DIDN’T WORK!!!!!… I can kill you anytime !!!!!!!! -
Slowly, a metal noise started to resound, getting closer hastily.
- You’re adorable. - stated Wave, without a care in the world.
- I’m adorable? I AM ADORABLE?!?!?!?!? I WILL KILL YOU, AND YOU WILL SUFFER!!! LIKE YOU NEVER SUFFERED IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE!!! I don’t know what you are, but I’ll find you and...! -
A spear sizzled in the air, ripping one of Flowey petals and getting stuck in the ground right in front of Wave.
- THE FISH! -
Flowey gasped, before fleeing.
- A flower…? - Undyne halted next to Wave, getting back her spear. - Are you ok? -
- I’m fine! - Wave replied – I made a friend! -
- ...A friend? - Undyne stared down at him – He did just attack you. -
- He is just shy. - Wave stared right back.
- He was trying to kill you, do you understand /that/? -
- Understand what? -
Undyne took a deep breath. Then stomped on Wave’s head, making it impact on the floor.
- How many times… do I have to tell you… not to leave the lab? - she hissed, short tempered – The day just started, and why are you here? -
- I was bored. - Wave replied, under Undyne’s sole, with nonchalance.
The royal guard summoned a spear, pointing it against the kid aggressively. - ENOUGH GAMES! We’re going back to the lab. -
- TO THE LAB!! - Wave yelled, flipping Undyne by pushing her leg away, and running.
Undyne fell to the ground, growling at the figure that was getting away, and breaking her spear in half, shaking with anger.
- Remember, don’t kill him. You can’t kill him. You want to kill him, but you can’t. -
(…)
Back at the lab, Wave ran right into Sans, making both of them stumble to the ground. The kid got right up, helping the skeleton, who stared back at him disappointedly.
- No waffles for you! I told you not to go out... brother… -
Wave immediately hugged Sans, touched by that little nick he used.
- You called me brother!! -
Alphys rushed to the duo, alarmed – Don’t hug him too tightly, or you’ll break him! -
Both stared back at her, and Wave put Sans back to the ground – Woops. -
The skeleton brought a hand to the back of his head, winking – Well, that made me jump outSKIN. -
Wave looked ad him with sparkling, admiring eyes.
- Wow!… -
And right then, Undyne came roaring inside the lab.
- ALP...H….is… -
An embarrassing silent gloomed over them, everyone staring at Undyne, and Wave smiling in a silly way.
- Hello, you!!! -
- Wow… you’re already here.. ok.. - Undyne recomposed herself, with a light cough to lighten the mood. - Well… we have to talk… uhm… -
- Wave. - Alphys suggested.
- Wave, go and play with something. - Undyne pushed him away, with a light gesture of the hand. - I’m going to play with the doggie!! -  he perked up.-  N-NO… Not now!!!! - Stammered Alphys, a shiver rushing up her spine. - Sit. - And Wave sat on the floor.  - Dog? - Undyne furrowed a brow, looking questioningly at Alphys.- Nope! No dog here!! - Another long silence followed…- So.. everything is solved here.. - started the fish woman .- Yup.. ahah.. -
Sans stared at them, hands in his hoodie pockets. - ...so… -- I.. I… I’LL BE PATROLLING!! -
and away ran again Undyne, as fast as she came.-
UNDYNE!!!! - Alphys tried to call her back, in vain. -   Wow. - Sans commented, talking a step aside – She really knows how to run against the  CURRENT - - Sans!! This is not the time! - - Aw, c’mon, she is just TRACING the FLOW -As he was finishing the pun, he was already at the door. Alphys sighed heavily, turning tiredly toward Wave, that was still sitting in the same place on the floor. She was used to get Sans out by now, and to be left with the kid. But it’s not like it was going to live with her … right? …  Right?- … .let’s go… to the dog!! - She said, trying to at least sound enthusiastic.-  YAAAAAAAAAAAAAYY!! - Wave yelled, dashing to the elevator.-  Wait for me.. - the scientist whined, joining him right after getting some papers from the printer. As the elevator music tuned in, Alphys shuffled through the sheets, and Wave peeked over her shoulder .- What are those? - - Your test results. Let’s see… - She furrowed her brows - ...Your soul is weird… I was not able to find anything existing to associate with it. You have something just similar to Determination, but maybe it’s a residue, I don’t know… your soul should be composed of two components, but it’s not like this, it’s like gelatine in some moments, and fire in other, with a great energy, but it’s not magic. - She scratched her head – A weird energy, maybe this explains your regeneration, and this weird thing that you do, remember without remembering, sigh. - - I AM SPECIAL! - Wave esulted, assuming a proud pose.-  ...Yes you are. -The elevator stopped itself, as Wave rushed outside to see Endogeny, as Alphys kept reading in a muffled voice.  - Nothing.. nothing at all.. -She was traced off her thoughts as she heard… barks? Angry growls? - Wha…. Endogeny? Wave??? -The lizard ran into the lab, to see Wave being absorbed by a black substance.  Wave was just standing there, not a trace of fear nor panick.- WHAT is THAT??? -Without second thought, she ran to help the kid, bus as soon as she approached it, the blackness attacked her.-  NOO!! -(...)When Alphys opened her eyes again, she was in a random and common room.-  What happened?? And where am I??? -She took quick breaths, as she tried not to panic, and took a glance around: walls of a brownish tinge, a desk with a pc, a bed with a blanket and three pillows, a wardrobe with a backpack next to it and Flowey in a vase on the bedstand.-  Flowey… w-what?? -Flowey jolted it’s head up, as if answering Alphys, but instead…-
Frisk!! STILL! -The kid dashed in the room.-
Don’t start again Flowey!! I have to go to school! -
- I knooooww, - the flower whined, - but it’s been a YEAR, when are you going to reset??
-Alphys stood there, awkwardly, wondering what a reset was, and if they could see her. Frisk reached for Flowey, taking his pot –
I told you Flowey. I never used the reset, and I won’t use it. -
OK, OK, OK!! JUST DON’T LET ME FALL!!! -
- Yeah, yeah.. - said Frisk, grabbing his bag and leaving the room with it, and Flowey – I’m leaving you to Toriel. -Alphys peeked the shut door, concerned.- ...why is Flowey so friendly… where is this… what is… going on.. I need to follow them. -She went to the door of the room, opening it.. but what she found, was a school full of monsters, and as she got her surroundings, something told her she was on the surface. And the more she looked, the more she saw humans interacting with monsters, cohesisting with them, with only some exception. Everything around her changed once more, fading.-
What now… - Alphys turned around, a sharp pain in her head, focusing with what was happening in front of her. Monsters were around her, facing a stage. Humans, and monsters alike. Toriel walked forward holding Frisk’s hand, who was still holding Flowey. There was something under a blanket, that was briskly uncovered and turned on. It was a machine, in which electricity started to flow. From the design, Alphys recognized the machine to the void they were building. - What is that doing here…  and where’s the human?? I’ve been following him in these… loopholes.. but I still don’t know why.
-As soon as she spotted the human, the machine started malfunctioning, and the portal generated by it started to be unstable, cackling and roaring.-
O-oh no!! If the same thing happens like with my machine, in those proportions…!!!
-A deafening explosion, and the portal started to suck violently inside it’s womb everything. - NOO!!! -Alphys, still thinking she was physically there, stumbled trying to grab something, but her hand went right through it.  - R-Right, I’m not... here… -Noticing that the other Alphys was about to be sucked inside /how on earth were there two of her?? That wasn’t reality, she got that/, her instinct was to save herself. The perspective changed, and she was suddenly holding a pole, reaching out for herself. But her arm, wasn’t her arm, it was the human’s!!
How..?? Well, if she couldn’t even save herself, she was truly useless!!
No time to think, she grabbed Alphys, pulling with all her might against the opposite strength till she was able to throw her off the stage.
- And now.. -In all the commotion, she didn’t see a piece of rubble crashing down in her direction, knocking her out.
When she regained consciousness, she was in her own body, and through a foggy sight, where did her glasses even go?, she saw Frisk attempting to rescue Papyrus, but the pain in her head came back so strong and sudden, that Alphys yelled.  (…) When Alphys opened her eyes once more, she was in the lab. -  W-Well… that was… that w-was quite the dream… -She muttered, before stumbling and fainting on the floor immediately after. (…) Meanwhile, Sans woke up in his house, and got ready to go to work. - Another day without Papyrus…  -He muttered, noticing the scarf of his brother, the only thing left of him, and decided to put it on.  Grabbed a bottle of ketchup, he left. His station was overflowing with empty ketchup bottles.-  I should clean this mess… maybe the old lady could help me, at least with my mood. - (…) The skeleton leaned against the door with his back, the crunching sound of snow under his slippers, and he knocked.
- Al. -- Al who? - replied the voice on the other side.- Alone with you. -Sans tried to sound happy, but even he realized the sadness of the joke itself.
Silence resounded, and the voice spoke again, soft but filled with doubt.-
Sans…? Are you ok? This isn’t one of your best puns..
-- Oh.. well.. I’m fine… I’m just tired… after something that happened.. - he said shortly, digging deep his hands in his pockets.-
Have you tried talking about it with your brother?
-Sans’ head lowered, a dry sigh coming out of him. He just felt… empty. Lost. Broken. He just wished… it was all a dream.. maybe it was, and he couldn’t
wake up. - Sans..? Sans??? - The lady called, not hearing any answer. - Sans! --
Huh? - He lifted his chin, staring sideways – Oh, sorry lady.. My head drifted away. -
- Did something happen with your brother? Did you two fight? - asked softly the voice, concerned.Sans took a sip of ketchup, and answered tiredly. -
 I… don’t know.. he isn’t… - - He isn’t…?
C’mon, Sans, you can tell me… -Sans felt the anguish fill his soul once more, just wanting to burst..
- He isn’t here anymore… he is gone! Just dead. Or almost. -- G-GONE!! -
the lady pressed her face against the door, in disbelief. - What happeend?? -
Sans drank more ketchup, gasping afterwards.- I made a mess… it was all just a big mistake.. He followed me to the lab… everything went wrong. The machine, the human… everything. -
- W-what… the machine… the human…? I’m not following what you’re saying… but your brother… what happened to your brother? -
- He fell in the malfunctioning machine, and… he isn’t there anymore… and what’s there… it’s not him.. -
- What’s… left…? Please Sans, explain… you’re not making any sense.. -
The skeleton slipped down, sitting.  -I know I’m not.. but it does make sense that it is my fault. If I had warned him of what I was doing… if the door was locked… I failed to protect him. - he said grimly.-
Sans… don’t talk like this… I know the feeling of losing someone dear to you, oh, so well… but you said there’s still something left of him? What’s that all about? Can we do something? Is his soul still there?
-Sans sighted, looking upwards.– We can say that the human… took his soul. And now he is acting funny, like he is him, without being him… I don’t know what to do or what to think. -
- A human… it’s been so long since one passed by here.. are you sure about this? -
- Yes. It was a human. I tried to prevent this, I did my dardnest best.. but I was powerless. I saw it happened. Then, this human with white hair appeared, acting like him with me and everyone else, calling me brother… it’s too much for me. -A brief silence followed. T
he lady stood silent for quite a while, before resuming, cautious. - Sans… you told me about this white haired person… have you tried to… talk to him? Understand what are you for him? -
The skeleton just stared in front of him.- He saved me from a spear, is energetic like my brother, follows me around like my brother, acts like him, and is nice too. But I can’t consider him as my brother, cause he isn’t. -
The lady sighed, quietly suggesting. - Sans… I understand what you’re telling me. But give him a chance, before closing your heart. If he is convinced of being your brother, see how that goes for a while. -
- Heh… - chuckled Sans, with a weak smile – Maybe you’re right, with all this snow, by heart froze. -
