Supporting your IF Authors: A tutorial (?)

I had made a small tutorial back on @interact-if a few months ago. Here is the very extended version. Also this is a very long post.

Obviously, you are not forced to do every single one of those actions below (it would be hypocritical of me to say so), but it helps show the authors their readerbase care about their works. Most action only takes a few seconds to a couple of minutes.

Let me know if I forgot something or made a mistake!

Note: while this is specific to IF authors, it can also be applied to other creators.

TLDR: Engage with stuff you like. Lurking might be nice and easy for you but can be detrimental to your fav author. Sharing is caring, y'all! Also, please don't keep the base avatar, it makes us think you are a bot. Don't behave like a bot.

Many ways to interact with the authors you follow. Some are very simple but not really effective. Others require a bit more effort but really goes a long way.

Likes

The easiest to do. Just one click on the heart.

Pros: - tells your fav author you like their stuff. - easiest thing to do. Cons: - It's pretty much just a bookmark function on this site. - The "algorithm" doesn't really care for it.

ALSO: don't feel weird about going through the archive and like old posts. You'll prob find some gems there. LIKING OLD CONTENT IS NOT CRINGY!!!

Reblog

Requires maybe 3 more clicks and some typing if you add comments/tags. Still relatively easy. Best way to share what you like to others. The only way a post appears on a dashboard.

Pros: - tells your fav author you like their stuff in a more ✨🌟personalised 🌟✨way. - helps their post travel this hellscape and reach other people who could like this content (see addendum at the end). - the "algorithm" likes it. - you can queue them for a later date/so you don't spam your followers. Cons: None (lol).

Notes: - do not reblog posts with a #don't reblog tag. - consider adding trigger warnings to your reblogs if the original one has some too. - TEMPLATE/ASSETS/RESSOURCE: always reblog those to help your neighbour. Who knows? One of your followers or your follower's followers might be looking for that. Also: good karma. - post doesn't fit your ✨aesthetic ✨? have a side-blog and put it there.

Asks

Needs a bit more effort. You need to think of words to write or picture to send. Also, can feel a bit nerve-wracking interacting with someone you look up to (they're like you, don't worry). But one of the most rewarding note for authors.

Pro: - you have a direct line of communication with the author, making it easy to ask questions, give feedback/comments. - you can positively impact their days with a few words. Yup. Seriously. - most authors really like asks, it's probably the most engaging response you can get from your readers. - you can asks stuff anonymously (unless the author has turned it off), we've all done it. Cons: - you need to think of words to say and muster the courage to press ask. - it might not available because other people abused it/were dicks in the author's dm.

Ask Etiquette/Advice

Be nice and respectful! Just because you have a direct/anonymous like to that author doesn't mean manners can be thrown out the window. They are like everyone: humans with feelings. Internet may make it difficult to see other people as... well people, but they are. Don't be a dick. A Hello or How are you? really goes a long way.

Ask questions about the project/process Interested in a particular part of the project or the authors' process? Ask about it! We love to talk about our projects and characters.

Feedback doesn't have to be complex/long. If you don't know how to put your feelings about their works into words, take a small aspect of the project and explain why it stuck with you. I really liked how you portrayed X's relationship with Y. That scene with Z made me feel V. Or you can be a bit more generic (still add a bit of yourself): Your writing is great! The UI is very pretty. The game is amazing.

Don't demand things. Duh. That's rude.

Don't spam. Even if they don't reply to your question right away. They may have a reason not to do it. Or they want to keep your post for just themselves. May be ok for positive ones (ask first).

Replies

This is fairly new on Tumblr (2021?). They're pretty much comments without rebloging. Great for giving feedback/sending love to a specific post.

Pro: - Yay engagement. - Another way to send your fav author love! Cons: - That's it. It's not visible unless you open the notes of a post. Unsure if it makes any difference in the algorithm. - it is not anonymous.

Other ways

A non-exhaustive list:

Create fan art : Always appreciated, we love to see your interpretation of our work and your OCs. Caveat: only if the author allows it. Ask the author if you are unsure.

Participate in Beta-Testing : Big part of IF it testing before release. Many authors will have a call for beta a few weeks/months. Consider rebloging that too.

Answer Poll/Feedback forms : Aside from Beta-testing, authors may post a poll or ask for feedback for a functionality/path. This is a great way for us to get direct responses. Consider rebloging that too.

Published Platform

There are many places where an author can publish their games. Below are the most used/known ones. You will require an account for most of those (it's worth it, I promise).

ITCH.IO

Itch has a lot of games.

A LOT of Games. To help your favourite game gain traction, you need to... engage with it! All ways are super easy and takes very little time too!

Play the Game

Duh. (Also I lied about the time it takes, that will depend on the game) Account not required.

Collection

You can add games/assets/whatever page on a collection (folder) to keep it as a to play later or share as a game you enjoyed. You can make those collections public and share it to the world!

To do that, click on Add to Collection (top left corner on laptop, bottom bar on mobile) and choose the collection you want.

Rate the Game

It's as easy as 1, 2, 3. Nope, not joking. 3 clicks and that's it. Ready?

Click on Rate this... on the top-left corner of the page.

Click on the amount of stars you want to give.

And click Submit.

Aaaaand that's it. Easy-peasy.

For Mobiles: the UI is a bit wonky and doesn't give you the option to rate a game. As such, you have 2 options:

put your phone in landscape mode: the feature will be at the top of the page (see below, I took a random game from the front page).

put the page in desktop mode (Chrome, Firefox) and follow the same description as above.

NOTE: This functions is not available if the game has been submitted to a Jam/Comp and said Jam is in its voting period! It will be available again when the ranking/votes have been released. If possible, consider voting for that game in the Jam/Comp as well.

Review the Game

Want to give your rating a bit more depth? Or you have a comment you want to give the author? Then add a review to your rating before clicking on Submit! Note: The review is only visible to the author.

Leave a Comment

You can leave a comment at the bottom of the game's page. Can be a few words, can be an essay, whatever floats your boat.

Don't know what to say? Take a small aspect of the game and explain why it stuck with you. EX: I really liked how you portrayed X's relationship with Y. That scene with Z made me feel V. The UI/Design is W.

Also, you get notified if the creator answers your comment!

Share the game

There is not specific button on itch to share a game. BUT: you can copy the page's link and paste it wherever you want to share the game! Easy-peasy!

Other ways

Follow the Author: to get updated on the game's process, bugs fixes or updates.

Like/Comment on/Share Devlogs: those logs have a Tab similar to the main page where the most popular ones are more visible. You can like the logs on that log's page or in your feed if you follow that author; share directly on twitter/facebook (or copy paste the link to whatever platform); or comment on the page (if available).

Interact in the Community tab: a.k.a. Itch's forum. Discuss, review or recommend games there!

CoG Forums

Specifically for CScript games posted on Dashingdon or posted through CoG/HostedGames. Used for feedback, coding questions, writing questions... for CScript games.

Authors can create threads where the game can be discussed by other users. The thread locks itself automatically after 60 days since the last comment or if the author requests it.

As far as I know (not my preferred platform tbh), there are no rating systems on CoG. Games with payable content can be rated on other platforms (can be seen at the bottom of the page).

IFDB/IF Community Forum

IFDB - Interactive Fiction DataBase

As the name implies, the website works as a sort of archive/database for IF works. There are over 11k games (ongoing/completed) listed. Reviewing and Commenting is fairly easy. You can also put a game on your wishlist or indicate whether you've played it.

Rating is a one click job: on the amount of stars you want to give. And that's it!

Reviewing looks a bit more complicated at first, but I promise it's not too hard! The review link will send you to another page, where you will be asked to enter your comments about the game, add a title and optionally tag it. When you are done, click on the preview button at the bottom of the page. You get to review how your comment will look before publishing it (see below)

You can also create polls or participate in one, join a club, browse other reviews and game listings, etc...

IF Community Forum

Very similar to the CoG forum, but is open to other programs (Twine, Inform, Renpy...) and all sorts of IF (text base, VN, parser...). You can find help for coding or writing, talk about games you like....

There are special categories to review IF games or recommend some to other users.

As with every Forum communities, please be mindful of the rules of said forum before posting!

Steam

Thank you @pomegranate-cuties for the reminder.

If a game is to be published on Steam, adding it to your wishlist will increase its visibility before and on release.

You have the possibility to:

Other Non-Monetary Support

Share game with friends/other websites

Words-of-mouth is a great way to help a game get more attention. And if one person talks to another person who talks to another person... that's already 3 more players right there :D

Talk about your favourite IF with your friends, or family. Mention it to acquaintances or people who you think might enjoy it.

If you'd rather avoid sharing your love to people you know IRL, you can always post about it on other platforms than the ones above. Talk about the game on websites like Reddit (there are IF communities there, albeit not very large), Twitter (if it survives, lol), Discord Servers, Forums, etc...

Obviously, don't spam people. That might reflect badly on the author.

Do Streaming Parties!

This comes with the caveat of: with the permission of the author.

Doing Let's Plays of games or discussing IF works on streams might be another good way to introduce more people to games you enjoy. This can give a different life to the work, especially if you actually read the text aloud and do voices. This way it can let the work even speak for itself.

Platforms like YouTube or Twitch are relatively helpful to set streaming up. Though you may require some specific hardware to run it.

If you plan on streaming a game, do ask the author beforehand.

Monetary support

If you can afford it or if your budget allows it, you can consider supporting your favourite author(s) with real money! You may get extra content or special features (ex: alpha release) for doing so.

Below are a few ways I've seen being used, but the best way is to follow the author's links/preferrence.

Tumblr: Tips/Subscriptions

This is a new functionality (2022), where you can now subscribe or tip a creator for their posts.

Note: Tumblr takes 5% commission on subscription but 0% on tips.

Patreon/Tipee

I think everyone knows about Pateron by now. Tipee if the European version of Patreon. They work the same way.

Note: Patreon charged your account when you sign up and on the 1st of every month + takes 9-12% commission on monthly income. Tipee is 8%.

Kofi

Another tipping platform (with less fees for the creator). Also used often for commissions.

Note: Kofi takes 0% to 5% commission + 3-4% from the payment processor.

Paypal/CashApp/Venmo/etc...

Another way to tip your author or pay for commission. Commission depends per platform.

Pay as you want/Donation Button Itch

Some authors have left the option to pay as much as you want or have a donation button on their game's page. You can donate/pay for the game this was as well!

Note: Itch takes a 10% commission on each sale EXCEPT on Creator's day (2/3 times a year).

ADDENDUM

what i do is i say "ok heres what i want in this chapter. this is the Big Idea." maybe there's two Big Ideas. maybe there's more. but if i know where i'm going, and i know how the fic ends, then it's easier to figure out how i want to get there. you don't even need a clear-cut ending!! you don't need specifics, you can just say "this is generally how i want these guys to be" but you can't start mapping without a destination, in both a chapter and the fic as a whole. that's pretty much what i've learned

if you want character advice, what i do is break them down into their parts and show myself "this is what happened to them, this is how they reacted, which means that they have this kind of mentality and these attributes" idk also just look at how other people portray them lol. if you don't like that, go hog wild, i guess!

if you're writing a character in pain, i reblogged a post a bit ago about it that i actually found really helpful (it honestly might still be in the queue hold on a sec, yes it was in the queue here ya go) i also have the messiest fucking tagging system, but i might have some stuff in #writing things

and just in general, have fun with it!! don't think that you need to check any specific boxes. say "fuck it" out loud, with a giant smile on your face, and let yourself write. imagine what you want to explain, and then put that feeling, or that place or person or thought into words (just make sure you take care of yourself, especially when writing angst lmao). Seriously!! there is no obligations, it's just you and what you want to create

and don't beat yourself up. chances are, it will be better than you give yourself credit for.

I try and write, but i was wondering how to start bringing up my account as to how to get my writing up and about, as well as like what formatting i should try out first in the begining (like blurbs, 1 para descriptives, one shots) (i dont do x yn it unnerves me)

... Honestly im a bit confused and lost and ur a huge deal to me so some advice to the fan if you will :>

hey hey! keep in mind that i'm just one person out there who writes, so take everything i say with a grain of salt, but i will do my best to give advice :]

i think the absolute main thing when it comes to writing is that you HAVE to write things that you yourself enjoy writing. a while ago, there was a fic i started for a fandom, and it got the attention of a pretty popular person in the fandom space, who was super super excited for me to continue it. it ended up never getting a second chapter, because while that external support was nice, i was never truly in love with the concept of the fic and honestly found myself more and more stressed at the prospect of working on something i didn't care about.

getting support for the things you create is amazing-- everyone loves validation and getting to have a community of readers is so so nice-- but you have to love what you're creating, not just go after what you think people might want. and it took me personally a while to learn that but once i did, i started enjoying the things i wrote way way more, and i think people who read the works i made could tell that.

in terms of the /kind/ of writing you put out there, i haven't noticed one type of piece getting more attention than another. i recommend that if you post a piece, you give some kind of header with the title of it, if it involves characters list the main characters involved (if it involves OCs you could describe them briefly but i am not experienced in posting original works on tumblr so i can't really speak to that), list off any major content warnings (i.e. death, core, etc.), and give an approximate word count. that way, especially with one shots, people know the length of what they're about to read and can set aside time accordingly for it.

when you do that, also, you can then tag for those things! I'm not the best at tagging my writing in all honesty, so I'm not sure of all the tips and tricks there, but I think you can get a lot out of tagging the main characters involved (if a character only shows up as a brief reference in 1 line, i don't recommend tagging them). past that, you can always look in the tumblr writing tag and see how other people tag their things; that might give you a better idea than i can.

also, if you do start to get people reading and enjoying your writing, you can make a tag list! i'm ... also notoriously bad at using mine, but basically if you get a few works up you can ask if people want to be tagged any time you post a new piece of writing. that's a good way to have people consistently look at things!

last tip i'll give is that you should absolutely reblog the FUCK out of your own writing, because that seriously does help. a lot of people also tag on "reblogs are appreciated" or "reblogs > likes" to encourage other people to share their writing. don't go up to someone directly and ask them to reblog something/why they haven't, since that is a pretty uncomfortable experience, but on the actual post itself i think it's fine to say that you would appreciate people who like the post to also reblog it! just a gentle nudge y'know.

also this is super minor but one of the good things about reblogging your own writing is that you can queue things (albeit i have never used tumblr's queue system so again, grain of salt), and hit different timezones! 4-6 PM EST is the time range i usually shot for with posting anything i wanted people to see, but i have no idea if that's actually the best time, so you can use self reblogs to experiment

When it comes to writing, I try not to write one-liners unless nothing else can come to mind, or if I am in the mood to. Best Friends Brother

As your eyes glance around the beautiful garden filled with white chairs either side of the aisle with flower arrangements all the way to the alter. You can’t help but feel utterly enchanted by the scene, it’s stunning. Star Wars Fic Recs Part the Fourth

Been a few weeks since I've done one of these and I've read/reread some great fics recently so let me share them with you now!

And I Fear Nothing by @maiseey (Obi-Wan/Cody, WIP, 11/? chapters, 43.4k words) Picture this: I am sitting in the parking lot of my local grocery store, having just bought a load of perishables. I get the email that And I Fear Nothing has just been updated. What do I do: run home to preserve the food I just paid for, or sit in my car and read the new chapter right away? The answer is obvious, of course! That is exactly the situation I found myself in last week when chapter 11 dropped and I did in fact choose to read it in spite of my groceries, that's how much I love this fic. In this fic, Obi-Wan and Cody are raising Luke and Leia together on Tatooine, and they've got so much trauma, and new + old wounds, and love for each other and the children they're raising that it both warms your heart and tears it apart. But that's not all, this fic expands beyond just the small home in the middle of the Jundland Wastes and explores Ahsoka and Rex and their journey to de-chip as many clones as possible. I love this fic because it doesn't shy away from hard conversations, but it does it in a way that makes you want to cry and give everyone involved a hug. Plus, there are some fantastic minor clone characters that you will 100% want to die for by the time you finish reading. Cannot recommend this fic enough.

Obligate by @communistkenobi (gen, one-shot, 23.9k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin & Ahsoka) Just when you thought the Deception arc didn't have enough pain, this AU sees Anakin fake his death instead of Obi-Wan! My heart is physically ripped out of my chest just thinking about this fic, so imagine what it'd do to you actually reading it. Anything @communistkenobi writes is so well-done and I've gone through his works list on AO3 multiple times, but somehow I missed this when it was first posted and it was like a wonderfully delightful surprise when I ran into it the other day. So, so good. Highly recommend!

Moirai by damonkey (gen, WIP, 4/? chapters, 9.2k words, Obi-Wan & Qui-Gon) All I can really say about this fic without giving anything away is that it's a Phantom Menace AU and it's so intriguing. The author is very deliberate in having a vague summary and only tagging as the story progresses, so I truly have no idea what's ahead of me but it's so -- as I said -- intriguing that I'm happy to strap into the ride. Ahhhh I'm skimming through the fic and there are so many things I want to mention but I don't want to give anything away!

Almost Home by @frunbuns (gen, one-shot, 5.2k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) You know, every time I recc a Modern AU I'm like "I don't usually like Modern AUs but..." and then proceed to gush over the fic. I went and checked and I've recced a Modern AU on almost every fic rec list I've made! Maybe I do like Modern AUs?? Or maybe the fics are just that good -- and this fic is definitely that good. In this fic, the first of a planned series of fics set in a modern Star Wars universe, Obi-Wan is reeling from the loss of his adoptive father Qui-Gon and has to care for a young Anakin. Ooooooof. Definitely hits you right in the feels, this one. Love the non-chronological storytelling too!

Naked and Not Paid by biscuitlevitation (Obi-Wan/212th Attack Battalion, WIP, 6/? chapters, 14.9k words) This fic is essentially ~15k words of the clones thirsting over Obi-Wan and it is the funniest thing I have read all year. I'm not kidding, I just read the last chapter which features space-church-lady!Anakin and I laughed so hard I cried. I'm cracking up just thinking about it. I promise you will have a good time reading this fic. And if the tag "Obi-Wan Kenobi/212th Attack Battalion" puts you off, let me just say there's no sex in this at all, it's just thirst. And it's hilarious.

Full Disclosure by @trixree (Obi-Wan/Cody, WIP, 2/3 chapters, 7.4k words) ROTS AU in which the Force bonds Obi-Wan has formed with a few members of the 212th save them from the chip and Order 66, but it doesn't stop the devastation from happening on a mass scale and they all have to try and deal with Mustafar and Luke and Leia. This fic manages to be both extremely soft and extremely gut-wrenching at the same time, and I wish I could leave more kudos. Full disclosure (get it, little pun there for ya), I will be dying until the final chapter comes out. Time to go listen to Olivia Rodrigo and reread this fic and just live in my feels.

Thirteen Days by @ewanmcgregorismyhomeboy12 (gen, one-shot, 4.1k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) Post-Zygerria arc, Anakin dresses an unconscious Obi-Wan's injuries and struggles. Ahhhh this fic is one of my favorite Zygerria arc fics, and given that that's my favorite arc, that's saying a lot! Obi-Wan doesn't say a word in this fic, but his presence is very much there, if you know what I mean. And the descriptions of injuries here are pretty graphic at times, but it's so good that you'll want to keep reading even if you have to do it through the fingers covering your eyes.

brother, let me be your shelter by @kenobilovebot (gen, one-shot, 1.6k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) This fic packs so much tenderness in a short amount of words. It covers an AU in which Obi-Wan's issues from Zigoola never really resolve, and Anakin finds out when -- well, you'll just have to read for yourself. I love Zigoola because it is such an excellent whumpfest for poor Obi-Wan and this fic is great for that, but also highlights Anakin and Obi-Wan's relationship.

A Padawan At War (Again) series by @itstimeforstarwars (gen, 3 parts, 100k words, Obi-Wan & Anakin) In this series, Obi-Wan and Anakin are transported from The Phantom Menace into the Clone Wars and have to deal with all that comes with it: fighting wars, discovering a Padawan you never knew you had, dueling your grandmaster who apparently is a Sith Lord now(?!) and all the rest. This series is a great ride, and I look forward to every update. Note: the first fic in this series is a one-shot that was expanded upon, and it drops you in media res. The second fic is a prequel that shows how they got to that point, and the third fic is the sequel that shows what comes after.

The Desert Storm series by @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning (complete, 24 parts, 1.144 million words) There has never been a better time to start reading this series. If you read Star Wars fics on AO3, then you've definitely seen the Desert Storm series before, but maybe you were daunted by the high word count, or felt like it would be too much effort to go all the way to the beginning of a series but couldn't just jump in halfway. Let me tell you, it's 100% worth it, and now is the perfect time to read this series if you haven't already. This series is complete, but it turns out it's all just Act 1 of the larger story, which will continue in the Rise and Fall series. @blue-sunshine-mauve-morning is taking a break right now before starting the next series, so you have ample time to get caught up, and YOU REALLY SHOULD. Let me tell you, this series had me on the edge of my seat more than any other piece of media I can remember. With the most recent chapters, where everything that has been building for a million words came to a head, I would get so worked up after each chapter that beforehand I would have to queue up calming things to watch afterwards, and it still wouldn't be enough and I'd be too full of feelings to get anything done the rest of the day. Seriously, this series is amazing. And if you HAVE read it before but haven't reread, now is the perfect time for that as well. I've reread this series multiple times and it's so rewarding because the author sprinkled in so many hints as to what will come that you only understand the second (or third) time around. I know I've written a lot for this rec but this is a long series and it deserves it. Go read! Now!

The Laughing Stag Masterpost

Hello writers, readers, and everything in-between. Welcome to the Laughing Stag! I have created this virtual tavern for writers to share their work (WIP, published work, fanfic, anything!), get feedback, and to connect with others in the writeblr community. Below, I will talk a little bit about myself, what I envision for this blog, and how it might work. I haven't done anything like this before so if you have any feedback do kindly let me know. The information and guidelines below are subject to change as necessary for the sustained enjoyment of everyone in this writeblr community.

The Purpose of this Space

I see this as a space for not only writers to share pieces they are proud of but to also allow readers to connect with writers they might be interested in. On top of that I would love for this to be a hub for writing advice as well as friendly discussions between lovers of the wordly arts.

The Inspiration for this Blog

I came up with the idea of the Laughing Stag through several posts where I saw my fellow writeblrs quietly mention they wished they had more notes on their writing posts. I was having the exact same feelings. What I also saw were a lot of people asking writeblrs to interact with a post so they could follow more active blogs. Well why not have a one stop shop for all of that! And thus, the Laughing Stag was born. The name for this blog comes from the longest running D&D campaign I play in. It is the home base for many of our characters as well as a place for us to meet others. I thought it fit perfectly.

How to Share Your Content

There are three ways to make sure your content gets to be featured at the Stag.

Open invitation: add @thelaughingstag to your taglist! Seriously! Do it! I will add tagged posts to the queue.

Submit an excerpt to my submission box. See the submission rules below.

Use the custom tag #tagthestag on posts you’d like to see featured here. I will check the tag periodically and add those posts to the queue.

Finally, I will make an effort to find active writeblrs, go through their wips, and reblog them myself but please do not rely on this. I have school and other obligations, I can’t keep the Stag going solely through digging all by myself. Please help me out by shamelessly sharing your work. It’s fantastic and deserves to be shared! Or boost a friend’s work, tag the stag, get my attention and I will add it to the queue. This blog is a community, let’s all work together for some good ole writeblr support!

General praise is always lovely and if you want to give a bit more (not feedback/criticism) I encourage comments with something you noticed about the piece or what, specifically, you liked about it. I figured since I'll be your barkeep, perhaps you should know a little about me. My main blog is HellishHin and you're welcome to call me Hin or whatever nickname you think fits (as long as it's kind). I'm 26, use she/her pronouns, and live in the United States. Currently, I work in a medical laboratory profession in the Pacific time zone after receiving my masters degree. I have picked up writing again and want to be a part of the community. I have dogs that I play agility with and I play D&D once a week. I love ren faires and have learned how to sword fight in historical Italian style. After being out of school I’m picking my hobbies back up again!

Hi! Um, I'm trying to start up a art/writing blog and I was wondering if you have any advice in getting involved with different communities, particularly with wh.ump!

I ask because your one of my favorite creators and you seem to be pretty involved with wh.ump (tho I suppose that's a little obvious😅)

(also I just have to say I really love mason and the boys, I spent an afternoon pretty much reading everything with them. Thank you so much for writing all these amazing stories! ❤️❤️❤️)

First of all - hello!! And thank you thank you thank you for the sweet words!!

Here’s some things that come to mind when you’re starting out (to be fair I’m only really in this community so like, limited advice)

Blog management stuff:

Make a blog gmail from your username. I’m serious it’s SO FUCKING HELPFUL. You get access to google docs and keep (where I store random thoughts and tag lists). You can use your gmail for your tumblr account if you want a level of security, you get an email account for other sites relating to your blog. I seriously can’t recommend it enough. (Helps keep things organized and WAY lowers your chances of accidental doxxing yourself through google docs)

There’s a good chance your “Introduction Post” will get easily 10x as many notes as your first real drabble/drawing/prompt. People are really friendly and want to share it around, but that doesn’t directly translate to followers. So, tease your stories!! After info about yourself and what you like, tell us a little about your OCs and plot/setting (if you have one). Give a character sheet for your drawing! Let us know what the look forward to!

Follow trends (if you want to). I say this because I’m one of those people who has and “””manages””” like 50 OCs, as you’ve probably seen lol, but once you’re around long enough you’ll see micro trends pop up under the normal tropes. (It’s a little slow right now but there was recently a BIG vampire AU trend, before that there was some Group of Whumpees and WAYY before that was Tiny whump). When people see something and get hype over it, they want more! Then you can pop over and supply the need! I personally love having a bunch of whumpees cause then you can shift between them as my own attention/interests change.

Queue content to post ~ 5-6 pm EST time. Whump is pretty international but I find that’s a pretty good time. (When I first started I would queue posts to post at like 3 pm because no one else was posting and I thought it would like, “fill the gap”, but it didn’t get a lot of attention. Pushed it back a couple hours and there really is a difference!)

If your drabble is a bit on the long side please put a cut. Just helps with dashboard management.

Community interaction stuff:

Make yourself a named anon if you’re feeling shy! They are BELOVED and SPECIAL. literally last night I was thinking about some of mine I haven’t seen in a while. It’s such a good way to interact with people or content you’re not quite ready to jump head first into. But If you do want to reveal yourself, you’ve already made connections!!

Reblog and comment on other’s fic. ‘Nough said.

Actually use prompts. Like if there’s one that you want to continue (even just for like ONE piece) do it! And tag the person who made the prompt! Correct me if I’m wrong but unless you see explicitly *not a prompt* then the original person will probably be thrilled to read it!! Like you fulfilled their mind story how amazing!!!

Whump community is nice and friendly, but we’re humans. Humans who write about bad things that happen and some of us have had bad things happen to us, and sometimes that gets messy. Overall very nice and welcoming but not perfect. 💛

Now, previously I would say tag tag tag but uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ………. ???????????? Who the fuck knows what’s going with that. However, still put your TW’s at the top of your post clearly. People need those to stay safe.

What I require in the request:

The ship/characters you want

And that’s it! Plot can be optional, but I can always think of one myself. Also, please clarify if you do not want something in your request(ie. angst, unsympathetic!tony, or something like that these are just what came to mind)

Please keep in mind, if you don’t give any specifics I will automatically fill in what I assume will work best. If you ask for a jet x reader and don’t give me any specifics, I’ll automatically fill in what will go well with what I had in mind. Do not get mad at me if you don’t specify what you want and something isn’t perfect.

Here is what I will not do:

Smut most likely. If you want a smut request, feel free to ask, but just know I have the right to turn down a request. I am usually not in the mood to write it, but ask if you want! For an ace person, I’ve been told my smut writing is pretty good

Anything that includes !nc3st, p3d0ph!l!a, and generally disgusting stuff. If you support those types of relationships because “they’re fictional” just never interact with me <3/srs

Overly graphic scenes. I will write intense scenes, but I will only write what I am comfortable with. I will never go into depth about intense graphic scenes unless I am feeling in the right mindset to write it.

I am the writer, I have every right to turn down a request for any reason.

Here’s what I will write!:

AUs! Literally any AU(that doesn’t go against anything in the last section). I will also write your headcanons and incorporate them into the request!

(Almost) any ship! Tony x Riff, Anita x Bernardo, and Tony x Maria are the ones I feel most comfortable with doing. I also don’t mind doing Riff x Graziella as well :]

X reader! I seriously don’t mind doing this at all. My first piece of writing was an x reader so I don’t mind putting my hat in the ring again!

(Again almost) Any Angst! I love writing angst holy shit, so I’d you have an angst prompt I am more than willing to write it if I’m in the right mindset! I will also write literally anything with fluff, so don’t be afraid to ask!

Any perspective! First person, third person, past tense, present tense, you name it! I love trying new writing styles out, so feel free to get creative

Song fics! Got a song stuck in your head you’d like to see me write about? Have a song that is just PERFECT for your favourite ship? Know a song that you want me to incorporate into a scene? Perfect! Just tell me what song it is and I’ll gladly write a song fic!

I always try to reach 1000 words with every single one of my requests/one shots, so please understand if it takes a bit of time to actually get it done :] also please refrain from asking for too many things as I need enough time to get through everyone who wants one. Thank you in advance!
