Okay SO! When it comes to fictives problematic sources basically don't fucking matter. Like if someone is an avid harry potter fan yea that is shitty. However if someone has a harry potter introject and that is the only information you have you can not assume the same of them as you would a harry potter fan.

They could have been a fan when they were a kid and either introjected them then, or since the memory exists within them, they can't just forget everything about the source. The brain decided to introject them later. Even if they are non traumagenic you don't know how or when they got introjected and if they are still a fan of that source today.

By all means, if a source is triggering to you or makes you uncomfortable, you don't have to interact with them, but you can't make it their problem. Simply block them because unless you can easily see they are still a fan of and support the source, the only way to figure out how they got a fictive is to ask incredibly invasive questions and make people defend themselves by talking about their trauma or their past self which no one is entitled to.

Also, this isn't fictive specific, but liking a source doesn't even always automatically mean they're a horrible person. Jk bitch has irreversibly ruined her books but if the books were really important to someones childhood and they just talk about it amongst friends or keep a couple pieces of merch they bought before they learned she was awful to hold on to the good memories. They aren't a bad person? Burning or throwing their merch away isn't going to take the money back from her. If they don't support her and don't buy the merch, don't watch the movies they aren't really doing anything wrong. If you do throw your stuff out because it makes you uncomfortable, that's valid but if you put on a big show of it it's kind of just performative hating the show more than showing care and support for all the people she is against. Just don't be a clown and put your hogwarts house in your description, or people are gonna assume you support her.

People still read and enjoy the various stories by Lovecraft and he was awful. People still watch marvel movies when so much is wrong with various directors and actors.

For a lot but not all things you have to learn how to consume things critically, or you are going to end up being unable to watch anything because at least one person in it's creation was awful or at least one part was kind of problematic. And if it's all or nothing it's going to be so hard for you to tell apart good and bad people. There are probably moms out there that go to pride give out water bottles, free mom hugs and supports her queer kids to the moon and back but obsesses over hp and knits inspired blankets. She's not a bad person she's probably just confused and old.

I hope even like half of this makes sense and I just used HP since basically everyone knows what it is I thought it was neat for like half a year when I was 15

TLDR: Fictives ≠ supporting the source and they don't owe you how they formed. Problematic sources are 98% of the time not even worth 100% canceling you just need to learn to consume things critically.

Bad enough my parents bought me HP merch for Christmas when I've been telling them about Rowling's descent into terfdom and specificially how she thinks anyone who is a fan of her work agrees with her political views even if they say otherwise, but

I haven't been into Harry Potter since middle school. Like yes it was my hyperfixation for all of elementary school and I was absolutely obsessed to the point where I would read one book while simultaneously listening to the audiobook of a different book, but literally it has not been a thing for me since 8th grade. Why can no one remember that?? It has been 17 years!

is kind of confused at first at your obsessions with things but still was supportive. bought you harry potter merch without even seeing the movies because he knew it’d make you smile

so of course you force him to sit down and watch every single one, back to back, marathon style.

he still is a bit confused at the end but he’s now a lot less confused whenever you go on rants about it.

scoffs at you when you talk about how great the avengers are, finding them rather puny in his eyes. nonetheless, he loves the idea of you talking about him in such grandor so he’ll be like “well yes, technically, i am a “superhero” as you call it.”

mulberry: earbuds or headphones? Both! I like headphones when I’m playing videogames and generally using my PC, but I prefer earphones if I’m listening or watching something on my phone.

”Thinks he’s cooler than he actual is.” Babe and fashion sense... do not go together in the same sentence. You know the guys who wear basketball shorts in the winter? Yeah, that’s Babe. Lots of hoodies, lots of bright colors, a bit of tie-dye, a bit of weird patterns. All of his t-shirts have obscure stains on them. All of his jeans are ripped, and no, they weren’t that way when he bought them. Babe is rough on clothes because life is rough on him, so it’s inevitable things are going to get torn. Overall, he’s a very casual dresser, and feels awkward in formal clothes. Has been known to wear the occasional polo shirt in his day, and no, he’s not taking criticism at this time. (His fashion ranges from this to this.) 12. name a few of their favourite pieces of popular culture.

Oh gosh, I could see him being a huuuge Harry Potter nerd back in the day. Preteen Babe probably hounded his family into taking him to Universal Studios, which of course meant Bill’s family had to come too, which of course meant Bill (who couldn’t care less about Harry Potter and had no idea what the hell a Hufflepuff was) had to wrangle his way too enthusiastic best friend whenever Babe tried to run off. He probably had Harry Potter merch all over his room, and dragged his buddies to see the movies when they came out. It’s not something he’s that crazy about now, but he loved it back then.

He can definitely quote movies off the top of his head --- he loves action movies, goofy comedies, even the occasional rom-com. Horror freaks him out too much, and suspense loses his interest too quickly. His friends probably dragged him out to see the IT movies, convincing him they’d be funny; Babe laughed his ass off at certain parts, but did not have a good time.

That said, he knows most of the shows on Food Network, and gets way to into some of them. Nailed It! on Netflix is one of his faves. He was borderline conspiracy-theory obsessed with Tiger King for, like, two weeks, and that was... a weird time.

BTS Scenario 5 - Requested - S/O being a fan girl.

Jin - BT21 fan

It all started when he bought you an RJ plushie. You found it the most adorable thing and the fact he was a part of creating him made it even more special to you. It soon became an obsession where you felt like you had to have all the new stuff that was released. To say Jin supported you in this was an understatement he encouraged it fully. Finding nothing cuter than seeing you snuggled in bed wearing your RJ pj’s and surrounded by plushies when he wasn’t home. He liked knowing you had some form of comfort when he wasn’t there. He often carried a plushie around with him on tour that had your perfume on it. He didn’t even mind when you started buying the other members either. Whenever he was away he’d always return home with something new to add to your collection.

Yoongi - Fan of another artist

He always found amusement when he’d hear you singing away when you had your headphones in not knowing he was home. Seeing you dance around to their songs when you were tidying he couldn’t help but love you more. You really let your hair down whenever you heard music you loved. He never minded listening along sometimes it was a comfort hearing music that wasn’t his own. At the start you always tried to hide the fact you fangirled so hard for them but Yoongi assured you that he found it endearing seeing how happy you were whenever you were listening to their music or watching videos of them perform. He remembered you always mentioned how much you’d love to see them live and he worked so hard making sure he could get you tickets. He wouldn’t be able to go with you due to work commitments but he was making sure that no matter what you were getting to see them live.

Hoseok - Disney

Ever since you were little you loved everything disney. From mickey mouse to the princess movies everything disney you loved. Your family had so many photos of you dressed as all the different characters you had insisted on dressing up as when you were younger. Of course your family had shown them all to Hoseok and he found them so cute he asked to keep one that he now keeps in his wallet. He loved cuddling up with you and having disney movie nights, sometimes opting to watch you rather than the movie. He loved watching you sing along word for word. Smiling, laughing and sometimes crying along to the films. You now had a collection of disney mugs, plushies and figures. Every time he’d return home from being away he’d bring you something back it had become a thing for him to do. He’d never leave a country without making sure he had bought you something. He had promised you that one day he’d take you to disneyland.

Namjoon - Harry Potter

The books, the films, the spin offs, the fan fiction. If it was Harry Potter or Harry Potter related you loved it. You loved the books so much when you first read them and loved the movies just as much. You had made Namjoon watch them so many times with you. “Always” Now stood for so much more than just a simple Harry Potter quote. Namjoon had became used to saying it to you every time he’d tell you he loved you. “I will love you always.” He done it knowing full well you would relate it to Harry Potter. He loved seeing how excited you would get whenever someone mentioned it. You would both spend so many hours having full on debates over which Hogwarts house each of your friends would be in. Sometimes you’d go to the park and people watch sorting them into the houses. When you first started dating you tried to hide your obsession but it didn’t take him long to notice after you had read the same book over and over again and the fact that you’d always have some form of harry potter related clothing on.

Jimin - You were his fan girl

Nothing would bring redness to his cheeks more than seeing you standing in the crowd cheering him on. You were there no matter what standing amongst the fans singing along to every song waving your army bomb in the air. You always tried to embarrass him by wearing the cringest fake merch you could find online. You turned up in a neon pink hoodie with his face on it once just because you could. You’d stream as much as you could, vote as much you could and constantly support him no matter what. He was your number 1. He once got you back by wearing a t-shirt with your face on it but it backfired when you didn’t get embarrassed only finding it adorable. He loved nothing more than seeing you sing along word for word whenever he was performing. You knew each dance step by step too not that you would ever try since you couldn’t dance as well as him.

Taehyung - Make up

Like Tae you were into art but the type of art you were into was very different. You saw make up as art. You would spend hours watching tutorials and make-up artists online learning new ways to do your own make up. You’d love creating new looks and concepts with make-up. You loved horror make up, beauty, drag queen make up. You name it you had tried it and loved getting lost in it. You were everything to Tae and even though he loved seeing you fresh faced and bare you were beautiful to him no matter what and he’d sit happily listening to you talk away for hours explaining new products to him and showing him so many photos of work you had done. He loved having a partner who was so obsessed with make up when it came to Halloween. You always had the best realistic costumes because of your talent. He had so many photos of you on his phone always showing the stylists how amazing you were.

Jungkook - Youtubers

Jungkook was more curious than anything when he first discovered you were into youtubers. You weren’t sure if he annoyed or not by you being a fan at the start. He was often quiet around you whenever you spoke about them or were watching them but it turns out he was quiet because he was truly listening to what you had to say or was trying his best to understand what they were saying when you were watching them as they were speaking in a different language from his own. In the end you both would spend hours watching videos together. You’d show him videos you’d like and he would get you into videos he would like. The mix of cultures fitting together perfectly. He loved filming so he got inspiration from some of the youtubers you had introduced him too. Sometimes when he was on tour he’d come back and ask if you had saw the latest videos that had been posted. You loved the fact that your obsession had become his and it was now a mutual love and not just a love on your side.

It kind of makes me sad that the only Twilight merch I own is the books, the Alice and Jasper bookmarks that I can’t find, and the Jane Volturi necklace I bought last month.

I never owned any shirts, not that they’d fit me now. I didn’t have the dolls. Any jewelry. I think I might have had a “Team Edward” rubber bracelet from Hot Topic, but, I don’t even know. I might have just considered getting it? (I do remember being in Hot Topic with my (now ex) best friend and her joking that she should get it and modify it to be about Full Metal Alchemist, so, like, obviously by the time I considered getting that bracelet..Twilight was in the height of being “ridiculed”). But, like, by the time I was able to buy my own stuff..Twilight merch was gone. And, when Twilight was big, and I was obsessed with it..I didn’t get merch?? Like, I rarely got merch stuff in middle/high school. Most of my Harry Potter merch I’ve collected since I graduated high school, and I had some money in college. (and now I have the Wizarding World loot crate that my mom got me a subscription to as a college graduation gift) But, basically, by the time I had the means to start buying merch..it was way too “uncool” to like Twilight, and so I was scared of even mentioning I liked it, let alone walking around with merch..and..all the merch, like, disappeared??

He knew what a big fan of Harry Potter you were, so when you went to London to spend your holiday there, he took you to the 'Making Of Harry Potter' Warner Brothers Studio Tour. You had a blast going through it, and Sangdo enjoyed it too: He took so many pictures of the things they had on display, or of you in front of certain things, or of the both of you. What seemed the most beautiful and amazing to not only him but you as well though was the big model of the Hogwarts Castle in the last room of the tour. It was gigantic, there were stairs leading all around it as you walked from top to bottom. Sangdo thought it looked best from below, and went to capture the castle from this angle – dropping his camera in the process. You were shocked, hoping he didn't break his camera. When Sangdo stayed on his knee for a moment, just staring at the camera, you were even more worried. You asked him about the camera, but all he did was to look at you, a blush on his cheeks, and smiling shyly. He took your hand in his, fishing something out of his pocket with his other hand, when he asked you the question. "Y/N Y/L/N.. Will you marry me?"

For your birthday this year, Yooncheol went all out. He knew how much you love Harry Potter and that you've always loved it. So he got many, m a n y decorations. He used empty toilet roll things and covered them up in tissue, making candles out of them, which he then hung onto the ceiling in your kitchen. On the inside of the toilet lid, he put a picture of the moaning Myrtle. He printed out lots and lots of pictures, some random ones like a picture of the Hogwarts Express, some ghosts of Hogwarts, and some pictures you'd find in the lovely castle of the school. There were so many things, it took him hours to plan, to make/build, and to put everything in it's place, he almost forgot to make you a cake (which was in the shape of a snitch). When you finally got home to all of this, you were so shocked, so overwhelmed. You were speechless, and Yooncheol didn't know if it was good or bad. He stood there kind of awkwardly, until you jumped onto him, hugging him tightly to thank him for what he had done. "Do you like it, baby? Happy birthday..."

When you first suggested having a movie night or a full on movie marathon, Byungjoo didn't think of something like Harry Potter. He knew you loved the series, and how often you had re-read the books, but he didn't think you'd actually do a Harry Potter marathon. He had imagined a shorter series, something that didn't have 8 films, and wouldn't take up so, S O many hours. When it finally came to it, and you told him about your actual magical plans, he was still really hyped for it. Watching movies was fun after all, so, what should go wrong? Well, he found out how it could go wrong shortly after.

Not only did you whisper every single word the characters said when they said it, which was kind of creepy to him, but you also hummed the music, the melodies and everything, when they were heard. He was freaked out enough by that, but managed to fall asleep nonetheless. When he later woke up, you were on the 6th movie, still wide awake, eyes glued to the screen, and a piece of popcorn on the corner of your mouth. How were you even doing this? ”Wow..” Byungjoo decided to change the course of the evening. He leaned forward, capturing the piece of popcorn between his lips, pulling it into his mouth with his tongue, before kissing you.

He was playing one of these quiz-duel-games on his phone, but since he's definitely not the smartest, he needed your help. The fact that he didn't know the answer to the current question made you ask yourself why you did not break up with him yet: "What's the address of the Durselys in Harry Potter? A) Privet Drive 4, B) Linguster Way 7, C) 221B Baker Str, D) Privet Drive. 10." "Are you serious?" you'd practically yell at him, "It's literally in the first line of the book! 'Mr. And Mrs. Dursley, of number four, Privet Drive, were proud to say that they were perfectly normal, thank you very much' it's basically history! Basic knowledge!" you went on a full on rant, Jiho zoning out about half way through, only coming back to you mentally to hear "[...] and if Ron had never tried to make Malfoy spit out slugs, then obviously he wouldn't be with Hermione now, and also..." Honestly, by now Jiho just wished he had never asked you. The time for his game had run out already. 20 years had passed since you started ranting at him.

"I.. I only wanted to know the answer to the question?"

Sanggyun

You had a discussion (more like heated argument) about which movie is the surperior, Harry Potter or [insert any literally any other movie title, hp always wins]. Sanggyun was behaving almost ignorant, not understanding your point of view, and not wanting to understand that Harry Potter was, is, and will always be one of the best book and movie series. "I just don't get," he started, sighing, "what you like so much about it? It's seven books. My series only has like 3 and it's enough to tell the whole story." - "oh, oh you want to know what I like so much about it?!" Sanggyun nodded frantically. "Well aren't I glad you asked! Give me a second!"

You came back an hour later with your laptop, on it a Power-Point presentation with 64 slides, detailed graphs, examples, animations, fancy effects and everything. You proceeded to show Sanggyun everything you had written down, everything you found out, to show him just how great Harry Potter is. Sanggyun found it both hilarious and cute that you went through so much, went to such lengths, just for a few fictional characters. He couldn't even be mad at you. He had to let you win.

"I love you, babe. You're even more extra than me."

Sangwon

You dragged him to a convention near your home. You were so excited for it, as was Sangwon, it was the first convention you'd go to, and it was all based around Harry Potter! You cosplayed as [your favourite character] and made Sangwon cosplay as Newt Scamander.

At first, you both had so much fun looking at all the other people cosplaying, looking at all the booths with merch and other kinds of things.. then after a few hours, Sangwon asked to go home the first time. His feet hurt. But this was a one time thing, and you couldn't come back to this again. Sangwon understood how much you loved Harry Potter, so he agreed to stay a bit longer.

Then, you came to another big thing with merch on it, and it had the coolest, cutest, and just best merch out of any of the booths you had seen! It had t-shirts with some really rare quotes (ones out of the books, even!), had figurines and plushies, different kinds of sweets... there were so many things, and you felt pumped, like you were in heaven. You were smiling so wide, felt giddy, as you pointed out one thing after the other to Sangwon.

"And that, that quote on that one, is from the second book, and it's something Ginny said to Harry, and it's sooo legendary, and oh!! Do you see that cat over there? Oh my god that is Crookshanks!! That is soo adorable! Oh my god we have to get that! Please please please??"

Sangwon felt so exhausted, his feet hurt so much, and he just wanted a bed, a nice drink and some sleep. But in his tired state, he found you even cuter than usual. He smiled softly, nodded, already pulling out his wallet. He loved that you were so passionate about it, and your smile was so cute to him that he couldn't even be annoyed at you.

How I got into the Dragon Age Fandom

Hi there!

I don’t really post much about myself, so I thought I would start by writing posts about how I got into different fandoms, and why I like/love them. I’m starting off with Dragon Age.

HOW I GOT STARTED

I believe it was Christmas 2009 when my Dad bought me the game. He said he saw it in the store and “it looked like something I would play.” I looked at it the cover, and was like “nope, I don’t think so” (don’t judge me, I was 16 and all I wanted was MCR merch, an itunes giftcard, and new headphones so I could continue to tune out everyone). But I gave it a shot, because usually my dad was right about those things.

I’ve played videogames since I was three (pc,sega gensis, super nintendo, etc), but I’ve never played rpgs before. So playing a game with magic and dragons and stuff was new, but I’ve always been into fantasy.

So I started playing and was hooked instantly. My first play through (and all play throughs since) I’ve always played as female human mage Amell. Later, I started games as other classes (female city elf Rogue), and while they are just as good, it never stuck with me. Although I love the Tabris story (Like dogs, Shianni!) I always play as Amell.

I think I spent my entire christmas holiday playing that game. I didn’t realise I could romance characters or give gifts, until it happened by accident on my second play through with Alistair. I was pleasantly surprised. I was crushed when I chose to make him king and Amell couldn’t be with him anymore (my headcannon still is that Anora would have had him killed. I don’t think she would believe she could afford for Maric’s heir to be breathing and retain power).

I didn’t go through the ritual my first time ( another headcannon is that alistair and morrigan complete the ritual anyway, because Alistair doesnt want his love to die, and Morrigan doesn’t want to lose her only friend.) Every playthrough since, I condone the ritual and my warden lives.

Why I Love Dragon Age

Like all fantasy - you can be whoever you like, experience new things, and learn about yourself all at once

The other party members. I wish they were as real as they feel when I’m playing the game. They’re the best fictional friends I’ve ever had

Decision making. I love how the the decisions you make have consequences in the game. I love how your party member react to them. and

The relationships you form in the game are just as important as the story.

I also like the battle tactics. I like strategically planning on the battlefield.

The fandom - everyone’so creative. whether it’s fan art, or fanfiction it’s all really rich and immersive. I’ve probably spent just as many hours going through fan created content as playing the game

So many other things I probably can’t put into words.

It’s been 10 years since Origins first released, and out of the three DA games it’s still my favorite. It never gets old (well the fade quest in the corrupted circle of magi is still annoying, but I love it). It still feels fresh, I feel the same excitement even though I know which enemy’s around the corner or which scene is coming up next.

Anyway, sorry the posts so long, and thanks for reading. Next fandom start post I will do will probably be Harry Potter, my original obsession.
