Hi, I saw on one of your ao3 comments that you think Homers' Achilles is on the spectrum. This is a really interesting idea to me, but I don't know that much about autism - could you elaborate on why you think that? (Also, I think all of your fics are amazing ☺️)

Autism as a word and diagnosis did not exist in ancient Greece, and I have no idea if there would have been a similar concept about it (doubt it) or if more likely people with certain autistic traits would have been considered to have a certain type of personality. So for me to say that Homer deliberately wrote Achilles as "autistic" is a little tongue in cheek.

That said, reading the Iliad I did have a moment of "Ohhhh, dude's autistic I get it." Some people might look at my reasoning and say, "well, that could be a whole other thing with these other reasons," and that's fair. This is just how it came across to me and why.

Sense of justice/fairness. This is one of the more obscure autistic traits (that often gets misunderstood and shit upon by people), but it's how the book begins, so I'll start here. Autistic people are more likely to learn and follow rules to a T. This gets rolled into the trait of "rigid thinking" and has been related to autistic people's preference for solid routines. To think about where you lie with this trait, one example is the "walk" signal at a crosswalk. Some people jaywalk when the road is very clear and no one is around. Some people jaywalk when the road ISN'T clear because they don't give a fuck. And some people will wait for that light to turn white no matter what because that's what you are supposed to do and there are rules (although culture/country of origin will also affect how much relevance traffic lights have in your life).

This is a rule, but it has little do to with justice. So to figure out where you stand in terms of justice sensitivity, another metric is how angry you feel when you watch someone cut in line and not get punished for it. Some of us will sigh and move on with our life because dicks are everywhere, whatever, and some people will have a harder time letting go because this person broke a rule in an obviously unfair way, and they should be punished for that.

This trait does not mean that autistic people have a better sense of what justice is or what rules/laws are "just." That is all very subjective. But this trait does result in a stronger negative reaction to seeing those rules/laws violated.

Such as rage.

Achilles fits the bill here in both in terms of rigid thinking and his sense of justice. His reputation in the Greek tradition is as someone who was very educated. In fact, he is the most educated with regards to law and religion than the rest of the Achaeans thanks to his time with Chiron. More than that, he actually cared about what he was taught and was considered kind of a stick-in-the-mud in terms of believing that the armies should follow the rules and customs of their people at all times and that violating their own laws was bad, even if you really, really wanted to bang a hot chick.

When Agamemnon decides to take Briseis, he is breaking a Rule. The common interpretation of what happens here is that he has violated Achilles' pride and honor in doing so, and Achilles loses his shit. That's valid. To me it read a little differently. I mean, for one, Achilles is 100% correct in the first book. Agamemnon pissed off the gods in a way he shouldn't have bringing plague on everyone, and how does he solve this? By agreeing to do the thing Achilles told him to do to solve it and then immediately violating their customs to steal from Achilles, bringing down a plague of "Achilles is not going to help you anymore."

Achilles cries to his mom that he wants the gods to fuck over the Greeks to prove Achilles right, which is deeply immature, but also really makes sense to me. Like, Agamemnon did this shitty, illegal, rules-breaking thing, and he needs to feel the consequences of that action. Achilles isn't a god who can bring down a plague, but his mommy is, so get fucked, Agamemnon. It's Zeus time.

During the time Achilles is out of the fighting, he is routinely called hard-hearted, stubborn, and other words to indicate he will not be swayed, which again speaks to his rigidity of understanding how things should be done.

The Way Achilles Talks About His Emotions. Achilles very clearly states what he is feeling throughout the book, and he often restates it. We get it, bro. You're mad. And then sad. Really, really sad. While this is almost definitely for the audience to understand his feelings and just how deep they run, Homer also could have just told us outright what he was thinking without having Achilles say it out loud repeatedly. It also felt to me that Achilles talks about his feelings far more often and bluntly than other characters do, but again this could be because the story revolves around his 'rage.'

Regardless, even if it was purely for audience benefit, this is a behavior I have noticed with my adult ND friends, which is basically after a childhood feeling confused by what other people around them are doing or why they are reacting to things in a certain way, they have a strategy of very bluntly expressing themselves and where they are at in this situation. It can be far easier than trying to follow the subtleties of NT culture and just get whatever issue it is out in the open. Saying to someone "I am angry at you" can come off as overly aggressive and blunt depending on context, but it cuts to the heart of the matter. We can compare this with Odysseus, who does not express any very deep emotions at all in the Iliad (other than the fact that Thersites should shut the fuck up, anyway), presumably because that's nobody else's business.

The Embassy. Achilles' point to Odysseus that this entire war was started over a man stealing a woman is so correct and so ignored. He looks at this situation and says: Paris stole Helen, and Agamemnon rallied all the Achaeans to come make war with Troy. Agamemnon steals Briseis, and I'm meant to... keep fighting for him? In what way does this make sense?

Everyone around him sees it from a completely different perspective, basically that Achilles got angry over a girl. To Achilles this is not what it is about at all. And I'm with him on this. If stealing a woman is a sin egregious enough for thousands of Greeks to spend 10 years attempting to sack a city, then it is the same amount of egregious for Agamemnon to take Briseis and he's lucky Achilles didn't kill him immediately and sack Argos. He's getting off easy, which Achilles tells him.

Reading Odysseus lay out his argument followed by Achilles cutting him down with that bit of logic was like, yeah, I'm with Achilles, I don't even think he's being stubborn I just think he's right.

In the embassy chapter, Achilles also has his famous line about despising men who say one thing but mean another. Being very truthful and having difficulty noticing lies is another common trait of autism, and it would make sense for Achilles to find the dishonesty of his colleagues deeply annoying.

Old British scholars called him a sociopath. This might seem like a weird one, but I'm adding it into evidence. When I read the Iliad, I see Achilles as a very emotional person. Given that half the book is about his grief over Patroclus, I find calling him incapable of caring about others incredibly bizarre. But in addition to determining that these scholars who wrote these batshit essays have never once in their life had a friend, much less a friend that they loved, this kind of fits with how a certain type of old-fashioned scholar understands autism. I've actually been at neuroscience talks with crusty old assholes who talk about how autistics and orphans are incapable of empathy, and then use evidence that really just says to me they express empathy in a different way. (Yes, orphans. For real. A real talk I went to in like 2015. Did you know that orphans don't have feelings and don't care about the feelings of others. /s) Add to the old British tradition of their feral private school kids (which I believe they call public school? idk those assholes in blazers, you know the ones) literally caning each other for being smaller, weaker, or just different, and this to me is solid evidence that Achilles is neurodivergent and unwittingly awoke the bloodlust in these old (dead) bastards.

Speech Patterns. Not being able to read Ancient Greek, I can't actually say much about this one, but multiple scholars have commented that the way Achilles speaks in the Iliad is different to all the others. He has a unique way of speaking. Again, this is not necessarily an autistic trait, but it is common for autistic people to have different speech patterns than NT people, so it's more just a "hmmm, maybe" than actual evidence.

I feel like I'm forgetting other little things, but I'd have to fully reread the Iliad with this in mind to jog my memory, and maybe one day I will. TLDR; Achilles has a very rigid way of thinking and an uncommon way of expressing his emotions.

And as always, autism is a spectrum. Anything I've written about here isn't necessarily true of any autistic person out in the world.

The Owl House: Charis!AU

sorry for taking ao long to continue this, have been sort of busy with sone other stuff- but here we are again with another redesign for my TOH AU. I made this a while back and yet i am still so proud of it tbh- making redesigns is challenging but also very fun, nd although for now all the major characters have been covered (Hunter, Philip, Caleb, Eda, Luz-) I may do some other redesign of other characters moving forward. Would you be interested in see someone else?

NOW- as always, my thought process behind this:

- i wanted to keep the overall shape and colors of her original design (as per usual), but adding some twists. In particular i wanted to add references to all the potential palisman people used to speculate she would have before the reveal! Hence, you can find reference to a cat, snake and even bats! (Although that last one is sort of sneaky and is in the lower decor of the pants!)

- is a small thing- but her leg warmers are intentionally not symmetrical just to sprinkle in some chaos- is a small thing, but i thought it would fit well her personality and give her a somewhat more casual vibe

- i had to add a small bag- both because is adorable, but also because I always thought Luz should need a more comfortable and secure place to hold all her glyphs, this without mentioning all the pencils she probably carries all around in between other things as small trinkets and stickers! She is a creative person, who in my opinion provably enjoys collecting small things for memories! A small easily accessible bag seemed a much better idea than stuff paper and pens in her pockets

- he hair was a nightmare to draw as i couldn’t figure put in what direction it should go. But i am so proud with the results! What i wanted to bring your attention to tho, was her sort of headphones. These are very important, as in my AU let’s say that human are not seen favorably, sort to speak, and as such Luz would have to hide her true nature by constantly covering her round ears or finding ways to disguise their natural round shape

Okay. I’ve watched the nimona movie twice now. Thoughts.

The first time I watch the movie, I’m not gonna lie. I was kind of a dick about it in my head just because going into it I did expect like a comic adaptation, but re-watching the movie I actually really liked it. I will always have a lot of love for the comic, and I think that the nuances in the dynamics and relationships are incredibly well written, and just are very realistic in the way that people emotions can’t just be healed overnight and trust is not something that can be re-one as easily as helping someone you hurt after hurting them for so long. But in terms of the movie as a way for, specifically children, younger people who are the target audience to understand things like classism, explicit queer representation, and fear that is not only unfounded, but pushed by means of excuses from idealize figures being spoken for by people who have never met them, and barely believe in themselves, just the ideas the associate with the idealized figure (Jesus/ galorith). I love how the queerness grew, as originally this was a college comic made by ND in the 2000s and now is a explicit love story throughout the entire movie. Originally I disliked the fact that Ambrosius was not the one to make the decision to hurt Ballister. That sounds bad, but in the original the reason that bal is hurt is just Ambrosius’s own hubris and his inability to comprehend the hurt he’s caused after, causing their relation ship to fester for years.

Re-watching it and bringing over the comic some more, I don’t love the lack of time skip, but I think it makes a lot more sense with the plot that they introduced in the movie and I think that expanding on why Ambrosius made the decision he did, even if it changes his responsibility in the situation, was a good decision. I had a lot of thoughts on Ambrosius and his demeanor, and just the way that he was manipulated while also making his own personal bad decisions, so I went into the movie with that on my mind, and that’s just not how you should go into this movie because then you’re going to have the wrong ideas about Ambrosius in this movie, who is a different character from him in the comics. He’s a better person who was being manipulated and honestly fuck anyone who says that worst representation.

Some things I loved even more than the comic is the way more explicit trans metaphor in the story and I loveddd the pacing. I think that while I missed Blitzmeyer, I really liked the squire and I loveeed the insight into nimona and galoreths relationship. I missed the directors reveal of being an elf or something as well as some of the more horror-esk vibes but I think the scifi fantasy was a vibe and the director being human was a good way to to symbolize her as a representation for false narratives as a whole and the impact that can have on people being led by them. The clear anti classism message was amazing and I loved it and I adored Nimona’s entire vibe as well. The soundtrack was great and her being into alt culture just makes a lot of sense in any time period the movie is based in.

Tdlr: don’t go into Nimona (movie) with any ideas from the comics. It’s not the same story and that’s okay. It’s a way to interact with younger audiences and help them understand about differentness and that it’s not a bad thing. The movie was beautiful and I’m very happy for everyone who got to be apart of it.

I’m having such a hard time with this episode - and I saw the larger beats coming a mile away. I knew it would be a solo-visit to the 70′s for Nancy and Tristan and that the Drew Crew would be left in the current timeline. I knew it would be Nancy and Tristan dancing. So none of what happened with them was like “OH NO I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO BE NACE DANCING” - like I was already mentally prepped for that. But what kills me about this is all of the missed opportunities...and I’m trying to be objective here and not just wrapped up in the romance aspects - but the larger storytelling opportunities that were also missed.

1) It’s a 13 episode season, but for all the “this is going to be among the greatest ND episodes of all time” chatter from the writers and Kennedy, this felt distinctly like a filler episode. Something that would have been at home in an 18+ episode season, but here feels like a weird detour. It feels especially wasted since the 2nd most recently deceased corpse died in 1975! This could have been an ideal opportunity to explore more about the corpses and...they blew it. They chose to dabble in something time-travel adjacent tor....a spider?

2) There was absolutely no reason to have Bess do the errr...c-section? Like, Ace’s job is literally cutting people open? Like, as a writer, isn’t the goal to up the emotional stakes as much as possible? Can you imagine how much more tense the scene would have been if he was the one doing it instead of Bess? Again I’m not even talking anything romantic here - just more...he was the right person for the job.

3) Ace watching Nancy slow dance with Tristan was repetitive. Like, it didn’t hit or hurt nearly as hard as when he was in the liminal space and seeing it with Park. I know it was probably an intentional callback, not unlike the Gil kiss>Park kiss mirror, but here it just felt like they could have achieved the same outcome another way? Not that I want to hurt more than I already do, but at some point you have to weigh whether a callback is a better choice than some new kind of painful visual.

4) The Ace/Chunky storyline was hit or miss. I prefer when the entire drew crew is working together toward a common goal and when someone is missing (or in this case working on a totally unrelated “case”), the entire vibe of the show feels off. I thought the conversations between Nick and Ace were interesting and I’m still marinating on them. Honestly, they were probably the most interesting part of the episode to me - particularly Nick’s observation that Ace trying to go back to the “friendship” he and Nancy used to have might be a futile effort because what they had might have always have been more than friendship, whether they knew it then or not. Like DAMN NICK, don’t hold back. Everyone else is telling them to move on and Nick’s the only one out here gently letting Ace know that his whole grand “friendship” plan may be impossible.

5) Speaking of Chunky....I’ve seen some people say that Ace let him go out of spite. But my read on it was more that Ace realized there may have been a kernel of truth in what Nick said. Letting go of Chunky was him realizing that there is no going back to the relationship they used to have..so now the journey is figuring out how to be in her life moving forward if its not what they were before they knew they had feelings or what they could have been had the curse not been in place.

6) Finally, I don’t get the vibe anymore that we’ll be seeing Ace’s “ire” over her whatever with Tristan. Ryan’s for sure. But I don’t know...after this ep, I just don’t see “ire” being the thing that comes out of Ace. At the end of the day, he knows Tristan was key to saving Nancy and she would have died otherwise. I’m not saying there won’t be jealousy or anger but I think its something he’ll let fester inside of him rather than calling her out on it (at least for now).

Anyway, I just...I didn’t like that episode. I feel like it had the potential to be so much more and just fell short of what it could have been.

I’m gonna list mainly Chinese media in this list, though, because that’s what I consume more. And ha! How brave, asking an ND person like me for recs. Prepare to be bombarded by my rambling!

Starting off with the media currently featured in my header (excluding Blue Lock coz most of my mutuals already know that)...

1. The Earth is Online (danmei* novel)

* Danmei - Chinese boys love stories

The plot basically: Everyone on Earth is pulled into a death game.

A good intro to the unlimited flow* genre. Each instance is thrilling and complex. The boys love aspect is not much, as it focuses on plot, but it’s definitely not subtle. The characters are also quite diverse. Most UF novels just focus on the Chinese characters and revolve around what happens in China, but this one actually features those from other countries. I also like how the protagonist isn’t treated as the entire world’s savior. Other people around the world are also doing their part.

Where to read: An official English release is coming out in 2024. Translations will be done by luckkoi, the fan translator. As such, they've taken down their translations online. There's an alternate translation by @leonsrightlations , but only a few chapters are out right now. There are several completed translations online, but they're all edited mtl (machine translation). If you don't mind that, you can go google it. I recommend the one by Rainbow Mushroom. Their translations require a password, though, and you can find that on their Discord server.

* unlimited flow - Chinese genre of web novels where the protagonist is pulled into different instances to complete challenges which, if failed, would result in punishment or even death. It’s basically the death game genre, but instead of just one game, there are multiple.

2. Legend of Hei movie + Legend of Luo Xiaohei series sequel (donghua*)

(I downloaded this video from YouTube years ago. I can no longer find it there, so I’m reuploading it here…)

* Donghua – Chinese anime

A story about the young cat demon Xiao Hei and his quest to find a new home after humans destroyed his old one. Cute cat + cool powers + awesome fighting scenes + clean and crisp animation.

You can watch this on Netflix, but it’s not available in all countries. There’s an English and Japanese dub available, but I strongly recommend watching it in the original Chinese. (I can send you the full movie with English subtitles if you want). The series, which takes place after the movie, can be watched on YouTube. S1 of the series is more slice of life, but s2 is action-packed.

3. Low Tide in Twilight (BL manhwa)

That BL trope where the bottom has a mountainload of debt, while the top gives him a way out… except, not really, coz the male lead Taeju is partly the creditor, and he’s forcing Euihyun into a relationship with him in exchange for money.

Typical BL story with an initially toxic couple, but better. Complex characters, and a manhwa that relies more on the art to tell the story instead of the words. Also, Taeju gives off that same annoying but hot vibe as Kaiser. What more do you want?

4. Link Click (donghua)

The title (时光代理人) would be literally translated as “Time Agents.” I have no idea why the official English title is Link Click.

The plot basically: Two guys with time-related powers run a photography shop, where they accept orders from clients to dive back in time through a photo.

Funimation did this donghua so dirty by not promoting it more back when it aired in 2021. The English subs were also terrible.

Did you know that it used to rank #20 in MAL, surpassing MP 100 S2, Jujutsu Kaisen, and many other mainstream anime? Now, it’s ranked #41 on MAL, lower than before, but still pretty high for a donghua on MAL. That’s just how good it is.

Here’s a link to the blu-ray version with fansubs. Just pick the normal English track option and not English (CR).

Edit: OKAAAY, it turns out that link has the episode order all mesed up. Just ask me if you need an HD copy with good fansubs.

5. White Cat Legend 2020 (donghua)

Title (大理寺日志) would be literally translated as The Journal of Dali Court.

Another cat boy donghua! Can you tell I just love cats?

The plot: Chen Shi travels from the countryside to the big city to search for his missing brother and inadvertently ends up working at Dali court under the cat guy Li Bing.

Slice of Life + Comedy + Drama + Supernatural + Mystery + Action

Baiting you with a hot guy gif~

It's a historical show btw, so expect some references to real-life events.

The animation is also really smooth in this one! You can watch it on YouTube. Here's a link to episode 1.

Season 2 is also out! I'm yet to watch it, though. I should really do some time...

⋅ geordi has the softest hands known to man, but they get sweaty easily, which is something he hates, i just KNOW this mf hates sweat. the feeling of it, skin on skin. which is one of the reasons he doesn’t like running

⋅ cutie and geordi have nights where they will binge one of their childhood shows, snuggled up in a weighted blanket (they both fall asleep within 15-20 mins 🫶🏾)

⋅ geordi’s personality gives off “mama’s boy” vibes but is actually closer with his dad, mostly because he n his mom held different viewpoints

⋅ geordi also has scars from his childhood from random times he was clumsy asf 💀he isn’t ever really insecure about it, but he’s never felt better about them until cutie started kissing each one and giving him compliments

⋅ cutie specifically gets lipstick only to cover geordi’s face in lipstick stains (like that one tiktok trend), but instead of posting it, they make it their home screen. geordi’s cute ass smile, lips n the rest of his face covered in red stains in the shape of cutie’s lips. UGHH i hate them

⋅ he also loves the kitchen sets and stays there for an abundance of time analyzing each parts (so real)

⋅ their first kiss as a couple was so awkward 😭geordi was trying to plan out how it would happen but after cutie kissed him on the lips without warning, he forgot how to function n just stood there. cutie literally heard his mind go blank, and it was like that for a couple of seconds. it was cute but actually so awkward for both of them (and geordi hates when cutie brings it up)

⋅ geordi had (and still has) lego sets as a kid and never let them go, nd he accidentally bring it up in a convo between them and now cutie helps build them with him

⋅ geordi’s body is naturally very warm, so when they cuddle in the spring/summer, they have to have thinner bed sheets n blankets so they both don’t wake up in sweat 💀

⋅ cutie does not want geordi meeting their family/parent(s), and not because they’re ashamed of geordi, because they never could be (who tf would??). but because they don’t have a good relationship with them

⋅ i feel like geordi moved a lot when he was younger, so he had trouble making friends n mostly stayed to himself, until he finally got to settle down in college nd met guy, which is still his bestfriend to this day

⋅ cutie had issues fitting in with others when they were younger, nd its a popular headcanon that they got their powers late (i think 😭), so when they started reading people's minds, they began to change in order to maintain friends

⋅ i genuinely can’t pick between if cutie and geordi would’ve meet in college/high school, but if they did, i feel like cutie probably changed their appearance A LOTT like they weren’t recognizable at first when geordi saw them at the park

SC vs ND: SC obviously (and I need them to destroy those zionists) and I think Oregon St. could make something happen but I think after the Naismith "snub" (quotes cause I'm 50-50 on this) Hannah is gonna be on one and Oregon St. doesn't have anyone who can stop her.

Texas vs Stanford: Texas because Gonzaga does nothing for me and Stanford v NC-State is gonna be really interesting, but ultimately I don't see how NC-State stops Cam and Kiki.

Iowa vs UCLA: Listen I think Colorado can beat Iowa. I just don't think they can beat the refs+Iowa+the narrative the networks want. The same honestly could be said for LSU-UCLA because the LSU-Iowa rematch is what the NCAA wanted but I think UCLA can overcome that (as opposed to Colorado) because they're a better team and because LSU has been unimpressive to me

UConn vs USC: Baylor does not impress me at all and well the UConn-Duke matchup *pray pray pray* I'mma shut up about it because I'm not in the mood to jinx things

Final 4:

SC vs Stanford: I think the ND vs SC game will be a lot better than the one in Paris but SC is just too much at the end of the day. And again with Stanford-Texas, I could see it go either way but I just don't see Texas stopping Cam-Kiki both

UCLA vs UConn: UCLA is a better team but again there's a narrative and refs and even despite that as we saw last year, it could still be Iowa, but I still think it's gonna be UCLA. USC vs UConn, Juju vs Paige might cancel out but I'd like to think the rest of the UConn team (if they show up) is better than the USC also just who's gonna guard Aaliyah?

National Championship

SC vs UConn: I do actually have Stanford in my bracket but as you said they're kinda not giving me the greatest vibes and well SC is SC. On the other side though, fuck it, in Paige Bueckers we believe. But also, I think this is a much better team than the one that faced UCLA in November. We were figuring things out and the team's morale was really low, I think we'll be much better. Also never underestimate Cori Close's ability to be outcoached especially if it's Geno of all people. Champion: I'm not gonna say it but y'all know what I'm thinking. Does it make sense to pick SC? Yes. If you're a betting person, do that. But me I'm here for vibe so once again, fuck it, in Paige Bueckers we believe!

I'm getting some real specific vibes from the anon who feels talked over in Discord conversations, because that was me a couple decades back. So here's some practical advice.

My guess is that to them, you're "doing it wrong" and your participation in the conversation feels like a brick dropped in the river, whereas theirs feels more like the flow of the river itself. To break past this you're going to have to study and learn.

Sit quietly and listen to the conversations without participating (this is easier in text than voice), listen to how the conversation ebbs and flows, how the speech hands off from person to person, how a joke that people laugh at is told, how a new topic that gets picked up is initially broached. You're looking for style and method, not content; it's not just the joke itself that makes them laugh, it's how the joke teller places their joke into the rest of the speech.

All of this is going to vary drastically between different groups. People of different ages and different cultural backgrounds are all going to do this differently, and there will be a lot of variation between different fandoms and friend groups, as well. Some will come naturally to you and some won't. I'd strongly suggest finding other groups and seeing if you're a better fit. Also try different sizes of groups and see if that helps things feel more natural for you, and if online voice chat isn't cutting it, online text chat or face to face conversations might be ideal (I feel awkward and horrible and kind of overwhelmed whenever I'm in voice with more than one person, but text chat flows very naturally for me and feels more like a native language).

Also try different contexts of conversations; I find it a lot easier to understand the flow of conversation and and get along with people if we're all engaged in the same activity together. eg, I'm a lot more comfortable in a video game chat where everyone running the same dungeon together than I am in a general hangout or fandom chat where everyone is off doing their own thing while talking with each other. The same or the opposite might be the case for you.

My guess is that you're ND (I'm autistic, that's where I'm coming from here) and something about the way you communicate just isn't meshing with the people you're trying to talk with. You might find that groups of people with the same labels as yourself are easier to converse with (for example, I find other autistic people so easy to understand I don't even need to try, but neurotypical people took years of practice to understand).

It's unfortunate, but it's not personal (unless you or they start being dicks about it and making demands), and it's absolutely something you can learn. And it really is about finding the kind of groups that work for you than about trying to insert yourself into a random group and force it to work out.

Experiment, look around, find the places that want you and try not to be upset or blame others or yourself when a place that looks fun turns out to just be grueling work.

as a writer, i cannot being to explain why your writings are out of this world, insane, crazy, wonderful. whatever emotion you try to go for, you achieve it in a way that it just clings to the reader's mind and carves a place in our bones. your dialogues, your world-building, the details, the characterisation, the sadness, the joy, the despair, the love, the yearning, the rage, the passion…. i've cried reading your writings, because they hit so hard in my heart that i just cannot stay quiet about it. and i have devoured your smut, and i have laughed with the lucemond kids' shenanigans. you have a way with words, you are so unique. i consume every single piece you publish, and i would consume any book of your own if you published, too. you were one of the first writers i read and followed when i came to this fandom and i just hope i can keep supporting you in anything you do.

as an artist, your talent knows no limits. that magic you have putting emotions into words, well, you also have it when you draw the faces of your characters. it's like looking at them in the eye, their smiles and the twitches and tilts you capture so well, and it feels like i'm looking at a real person with real emotions. i'm in love with your style, from the sketch to the colouring to the way i can see any of your art out of context and know it's yours. you have magic in your fingers, and daily dust in your soul and in your mind, and that's why every single piece you draw and you write is a treasure to be kept and protected, love and cherished.

personally, i know we haven't talked much, but you have been so kind to me. and i just love your sense of humor, your commitment, the way you treat with such respect and love your readers. how you give your heart to answer to our asks and questions just as you give it to create content.

Morticia Addams headcanons

Because there was nothing in the tag other than x reader, nsfw or crossover, and I like giving characters complicated backstories. Also it’s spooky month so I have to make content <3

This will be mostly pertaining to the ‘60s show, with some other stuff from… pretty much everything! I have a soft spot for the musical in particular so if you don’t recognize any character names they’re probably from that

So first off, Morticia and Ophelia used to be very, very close when they were little

Like shared-everything-and-wanted-to-be-just-like-each-other close

Ophelia is three years older, but Morticia was a lot more “mature” so she kind of ended up slotting into the role of the older daughter.

(Btw when I say “mature” I mean “they’re both nd but Tish is a lot better at masking so people kind of thought of Ophelia as childish”)

(And when I say “the role of the older daughter” you know exactly what I mean)

Up until she was a teenager, Morticia was just like her older sister: loving, dutiful and sweet. The only differences seemed to be their hair color and Morticia’s relative shyness.

But the sisters didn’t stay close forever

Mainly because their family was very old-fashioned and very magic.

(Time for worldbuilding)

Everyone in their mother’s family has some kind of powers over nature (see: Fester’s lightning powers)

Granny Frump had powers over plants, so both the sisters were expected to end up with plant magic as well.

Ophelia’s powers started developing at a very young age, and once they did, (pun fully intended), she blossomed. Flowers, herbs and fruit trees alike flourished after minimal coaxing from her, and the stubbornest of sidewalk weeds seemed to adore her. Daisies even began to grow out of Ophelia’s hair!

Morticia, on the other hand, was… not that

The only plants she could seem to work magic on were poisonous, carnivorous, allelopathic or otherwise hazardous to health

The only exceptions were roses (probably because of their thorns)

And this is where Morticia ran into some problems with the women in her family.

The most immediate issue came in the form of her mother, who seemed deeply ashamed of her younger daughter’s “morbid” magic

Granny Frump doubted that Morticia would ever make a good match (need I remind you this was the early fifties) and pretty much decided she was “cursed” and would never be much more than a burden

She thought she might find comfort in her sister, but Ophelia only thought of her as a tragedy

Unsurprisingly, this was around the time Morticia started to distance herself from the rest of her family

Namely by leaning into the whole “cursed” thing and cultivating her own little garden of poisonous plants, as well as a more dark and depressing vibe overall

She ended up realizing there was no reason to be what everyone else wanted her to be- a flower doesn’t just die because it’s not the same color as the rest of the garden, does it?

This, incidentally, is how Morticia ended up being the happiest she’d ever been.

Enter Gomez, who saw this beautiful girl being so unapologetically herself that he just. Couldn’t handle it

And the rest is history :)

Okay now that’s out of the way it’s time for some general (read: miscellaneous and often quite stupid) headcanons

She and Ophelia do become close again as they become adults! It just takes a little while, but there’s not too much that can keep the two of them apart

She still gives Gomez the creeps though

Morticia’s hair isn’t naturally that straight and shiny- she actually puts oil in it to smooth it out! When she wakes up in the morning it’s very frizzy. (Headcanon courtesy of my mom)

Headcanon also courtesy of the person who said Morticia dyes her hair: I respect your headcanon but you are Extremely wrong about this

Tish takes a lot of pride in her appearance, specifically in the way she dresses and in her general bearing. It’s really less about how she looks and more about the way she presents herself

Whenever she stresses about her appearance, Gomez tells her the exact same thing: “I would love you even if you looked like a rotting corpse.”

She’ll just roll her eyes and say something along the lines of “just wait, darling, it won’t be long now.”

Gomez is the only person that Morticia lets into her conservatory without knocking

The kids get passes when they’re really little. Grandmama does not and needs to stop sneaking around trying to steal her hemlock

Pugsley also eventually gets a free pass because she knows he’s responsible. Wednesday does not

Mainly because she broke Aunt Phobia’s nicest vase

Most of the Addams relatives with weirder names come from Gomez’s side of the family, but Morticia has plenty of cousins on her side and they’re all perfectly strange, thank you very much!

But her stories are always a little bit depressing, even if she doesn’t mean for them to be

You know how someone will tell a story about something awful that happened to them in their childhood like it’s hilarious because nobody ever told them that wasn’t normal? That’s Morticia

Gomez, who grew up with a very loving family, is always horrified by these

“Your mother did WHAT” “…Did your mother not do that” “NO”

They don’t talk to Granny Frump a lot

Not because Morticia doesn’t want to reconnect (she’d actually be quite happy to do so if her mother was willing) but because Gomez is always on the offense when she visits

“Darling, you really don’t need to do that” “Do what” “Gomez put the sabre down”

Gomez tries to teach Morticia about a lot of his passions/just stuff he knows, with varying levels of success

She does quite well learning how to fence, and makes for a very fun sparring partner!

She didn’t pick up Spanish as easily, even though she tried

All she really knows is their pet names for each other

He thinks she’s fantastic

In turn, Morticia tried to teach Gomez how to knit. To put it mildly, that ended up being a disaster and a half.

She had a lot more success teaching him about the plants in her conservatory

In part because she has a lot of little songs and mnemonics to keep track of them

She had to make up most of them because they don’t really make those songs about poisonous/carnivorous plants

This is semi-canon but Morticia has a really nice singing voice!

She’s always humming something, to the point where she doesn’t really know she’s doing it most of the time (read: stim)

hello, hello, it's secret sleuth time! i hope that you've been able to rest a bit more this week! it's been a pretty good week for me, not super busy but enough going on so that i don't get bored which is nice.

re: 2x05 -- i totally understand why the crew reacted they way that they did, they were scared and when we're scared we don't think logically. i don't blame them for reacting the way that they did. i do, however, hold them accountable to how they behaved after and the non apologies that they gave nancy. that really will never sit right with me, but hey, that's what fix-it fics are for, right?

you're so so right about long story short, that song really has always made me think of nace. i mean, everything makes me think of nace, but...you know, that one is very nace coded! lol

i'm sorry that the holidays aren't the most fun time for you. i hope that you're able to find things that bring you joy during this time, no matter what it is! i have cookies that i bake every christmas season, so i'm definitely looking forward to baking those, it always feels so cozy when i do! really, during the holidays, i just like finding time to relax and watch holiday movies, and spend time with family. and curling up with a good book whenever possible!

hello! i really hope you feel better soon! sending all good vibes your way✨ confession: i’ve actually only played cdlc so far (i know! i know, shame on me) but in my defence i got so fixated on a specific RO (im curious if u could guess who before i say!) that i haven’t even been able to bring myself to deviate much from my very specific route to woo them every time i restart the game😅

anyways, my cdlc mc: sasha vitari, a relatively reserved personality who presents as exceedingly prim and proper. prefect, fairly studious, enjoys horse riding as her token physical activity!

was very well educated in upper class etiquette/behaviour from a young age due to her parents ambitions for the family to social climb n tends to follow the role expected of her to a T, but isnt actually snobbish abt it? struggled a lot internally with relating to her peers as a kid n ended up adopting the strict social scripts as a sort of aid/mask for how to behave, but doesn’t really expect the same of others. under the mask is pretty plain spoken, doesn’t emote as much, but is deeply earnest (yes shes nd haha)

rather agreeable (maybe even a bit of a pushover) n intrigued by people who don’t feel the need to follow social norms - quietly delighted by it and willing to go with their flow.

her main RO is max! (w the occasional polyam triad w delacroix n quiet karson flirting on the side) i like to think max got a bit of thrill out of the idea of sasha having such a ‘demure’ front but being drawn to them so easily + also appreciating how nonjudgemental she is :’-)

also, a random fun fact since you mentioned smut, i adored the kind of relationship sasha could have with max so much that i was actually inspired to write my first ever smut fic about them! (apologies for the ramble, i just got really excited to talk abt cdlc!)

honestly i just dont give a shit abt him. like in a vacuum i like his character, yk he was kinda a pretty big asshole to my boy lucas and he sells drugs (idrc abt that one tho) but at the same time idk i do enjoy the idea of eddie being queer nd clocking will and/or mike nd trying to make them feel comfortable talking to him (even if that could be done just as well if not better with robin who is yk canonically queer and a way better character but idk) but all that is ignoring how fucking annoying his fans are like jesus christ why is he this fucking popular like half the fics in this godforsaken fandom r st€ddie (and look i am a shameless will-ship-smthn-based-off-of-one-small-momenter of the highest degree but i genuinely do not understand the hype for them like they literally looked at eachother twice and had eddie tell steve to get back with his ex how in the fuck is that romantic???) and yeah just he is insanely overrated in the worst possible way and the fact that this isnt even the worst case of this in this fandom just proves how much b*lly and his fans suck and yeah i did not expect to go on a huge rant abt this srry TwT

kinda agree kinda disagree. i do think it wouldve been possible for mlvn to work but i wouldnt say hopper taking el in is the problem i think ud kinda just have to rewrite alotta their interactions with some small things in the beginning but with a completely different dynamic in the later seasons (sidenote: honest to god if theyd just written hopper a bit better i would fucking love him as el’s dad like i love the found family trope and i do think they go well together but with the way he acts in s3 + the way their fight that culminates in el’s meltdown and him breaking the tv in s2 just yeah they rlly could’ve been done better)
