So I’ll tell you guys about my few run-ins with men who have hit on me in the past.

First, we have this guy David from my very first job. He was an older dude, and he friended me on face book. No big. Well he messages me one night and he’s asking me all these questions like how are you and what are you doing before he’s finally like how old are you. I told him I was sixteen and he was literally unfazed and continued to chat me up until I just cut off. Trust me. These get better so just keep going. Best for last and all that.

Next, we have Douglas. He was a boy who I ran into at my second job at McDonald’s. I was off and it was my 18th birthday so I was coming in to get some free ice cream ‘cause bitch I’m not passing that up. Anyway, so he drops some change and I pick it up for him and he’s super taken aback by my act of kindness I’m like bro chill it’s not even that significant. Then SOMEHOW my lanyard for my keys unhooked itself from my pocket and he managed to grab it for me where he proceeded to talk to me about his job and wages and blah blah blah. He’s finally all can I’m not trying to seem like a creep asking for your number but can i get your number. So this dumb bitch panics and gives it to him. So he leaves and starts texting me and we chat for a bit, and it didn’t seem horrible. A couple days later, he sends me a picture of himself. Breakdown time: He was wearing sunglasses inside. It looked like he was in his bathroom and the countertops reflected in the mirror were covered in dirty clothes and EVEN PLATES like what the fuck??? Anyway, so we end up talking some more and he’s increasingly misspelling words and I’m all I gotta end this so he busts out the “what do you like in a guy” and i’m like ohh my guy friends are nice and funny haha and he’s like I’M A NICE GUY :))))))))) and I’m like what have I done so i go well yea... now if we’re talking GIRLS I can just go on and he sends me this exact wording “HAHAHA lol so dose that mean ur bie” and I’m like I’m a lesbian. and he goes I think thats hot :) I’m pissed as hell now and I go off on him and he’s like oh I’m sorry and i’m like maybe I was a bit too harsh and I was like please don’t tell me you’re one of the can i watch creeps and he goes “No hun, if anyone were making love to you I’d rather it be me.” BITCH!!!!! I’m cringing. So I’m all HELL NO and I just leave him on read though i was scared he’d stalk me at work- he didn’t in the end THANK GOD- and I leave him on read and the dumbass still decided to message me months later of no responding lmao.

Finally we have the best for last. This is the guy I refer to as “toe man”: I drive a 2000 saturn who’s ac doesn’t work. It’s terrible. beside the point. SO ANYWAY. I’m working at McDonald’s for a few months now and it’s the middle of august and fucking blazing more than a stoner on 420. On this particular day, we received our truck order so when i got ready to leave there was a semi truck parked right behind me with enough space for me to pivot out at an angle-no big. I’m a fantastic driver. Well the semi dude is all do i need to move my truck and before I can even say no it’s good, this man calls from his stupid pickup truck “OH I won’t let her hit your truck SHE’S FINE” and I’m getting angry now like you fucking prick and I’m like yes thanks for answering my fucking question you are right pat yourself on the back like a big boy. So I get in my car and I’m backing up slow looking out my window. Just as I’m straightening out, I look up in my rear-view mirror AND I SEE THIS GUY LIKE TWO FUCKING INCHES FROM MY BUMPER. He clearly see’s me backing up and like I said i was driving slow anyway so the bastard had plenty of fucking time to move but he’s just chilling there with his hands on his hips. Anyway, I slam on my brakes real fast and my heart is pounding. He stands there a moment longer before moving his way around to my passenger window. he’s all I thought you were drunk driving like that! bitch what?! but I’m all sir are you okay I apologize for that and in this odd voice he’s like yea... I’m fine.. are you? wtf?????????? yes??? I am sitting just here??? So he leans on his arms on my window and his torso enters my car and he’s like “boy you sure are a cute one arent ya?” I get the chills and he finishes with “what color do you paint your toenails?” WHAT THE FUCK???????? At that moment my butt cheeks were clenched so tight and I was so uncomfortable. I’m all uhhhhhhhhhhIdontpaintmytoenails! and he just sizes me up with his beady little eyes before saying “well if you ever need anyone to paint your toenails I’ll do it for free” and I’m like “NO THANK YOU” and he just stares at me before giving me the goddamn thumbs up and sauntering away. I thank god every day I never saw toe man again.

So yea, not so lucky in the flirting department.

London and Me.

To be honest with you, I am still not over London. Like, I am still so happy every single time I think about it. I waited 10 years to see this band and they did not let me down. It has honestly taken me this long to formulate my thoughts and I’m not sure they even make sense.

Here is just a collection of things that I felt on that day:

Leaving Oxford for London is an experience. It’s raining and my hair is pretty wavy/curly at the best of times. Good Start.

The Bus we were on took us through Mayfair (If anyone plays UK monopoly that is the dark blue really rich area - Yikes)

Finding a Bus from there to the club was an experience - Londoners are rude af. If you pulled the shit they did up here in the Scotland ...my god. First - turns out you cant buy two bus tickets on one card, and if you dont have contactless you are not getting on. Second - “You can get a ticket up there” is not helpful in the slightest when you don’t tell us where “Up there” is. Third - Yes I do have a Scottish Accent thank you for pointing that out I had never noticed it before.

Finally got a ticket and the correct bus let the good times roll.

Okay when we see the Hamilton Signs on the way back that’s where we get off the bus.

Those two girls at the front of the bus are going to the concert too I can feel it.

Finally found the club, and by found I mean walked round the corner.

I did say if you arent here early you are at the back.

Now we wait.

We Found Us - I call Bullshit on that - I cant find any of my friends in this damn club. I have literally been pushed two rows back from where I started (honestly my view is better.) Still cant find my friends though. On the Upside I can see Gustav now! Look at the lil drummer boy go.

Black - Turns out I dont remember the English lyrics for this song. The rest of the crowd are singing though so everything is fine. This might be the one place he wont be harassed for singing it in English.

Easy - Now on the rest of the album the “getting high” references could possibly be interpreted as being high on life, or love - you know if you squint really hard and ignore context. But here literally “we smoked weed in the backseat of your car” there is no other way to interpret that one. So go with it! Im a Uni student, make your own assumptions about what I get up to.

Automatic - my love for this song knows no bounds. The KOS people look so happy - and possibly drunk. The tech peeps have very nicely turned down the sound for when Bill lets the girls sing. If I was up there I would appreciate it very muchly.

I had a Scream upgrade and let me tell you, I could have left after the “Soundcheck” (Read: Private performance of a few songs) and been completely satisfied with the whole night. I would have considered it money well spent.

Now being in London I was not expecting there to be as many people as there were, and people showed up and bought tickets from the box office as we were standing there.

BJoo Time~!

BJoo goes first for a couple of reasons. He sat directly with us from the beginning - Laira was actually sitting next to him for the entire start of the meal, until Hansol literally forced him to switch places. He spoke a lot of English - a LOT of English, which was a pleasant surprise. I know in live streams and stuff previously he's asked fans to speak in Korean, but he's been working really hard, and it's showing. He joked around a bit and used an American accent a few times, and he spent most the meal wriggling around.

We came in a bit late due to taxi/traffic, and we were nervous as Hell when we first got in and everyone was seated, but BJoo tried to be really friendly and initiated conversation with us. We played the 'how old are you game'- each of the members did this. They'd ask how old each of us were and ask for our names. BJoo was really sweet. Laira, being the outgoing, ballsy person she is, didn't answer him directly. Instead she asked him how old she thought we were. He sat for a moment and went "....Younger than me?" Which, really I don't think he was trying to be impolite. He seemed to actually think about it and study each of our faces. Honestly, we're both a bit older than him by a few years, so when we told him he was wrong and he started guessing ages and got to the right one, his eyes lit up and he goes "Oh! Noona!" and it was really, really cute. Rae is younger than everyone, so he (and others later) just called her 'dongsaeng'.

This is also where we found out that BJoo didn't like Hummus, which was in that video that I took and sent. They had little snack plates that they dropped off with cheese and crackers and stuff. Some of the cheese cubes had little toothpicks with ToppDogg's logo on them, and BJoo thought that was awesome. He pulled his phone out to show us the food he had made the other night. From where I was sitting it looked like curry, but I was across the table, so Laira asked what it was. BJoo, extremely excited goes "Scramble!!"

Laira squinted, "Scramble...?"

Yano leaned over and goes "Scrambled eggs."

BJoo lit up. He was extremely proud of his scrambled eggs. Informative Yano was informative.

He said his eggs were a lot better than the hummus and ended up showing us all his broken screen while showing us what he had made. When we asked him how he broke it, he said he forgot it was in the bathroom with him and he was in a hurry, and it fell. He seemed kinda embarrassed (or maybe self conscious because his English was a little broken), so I reassured him that I'd done that too and I'd dropped mine in the sink before even, and after that he seemed to feel a bit better and started to relax. Laira went "I'm sorry you broke your phone!" and he seemed genuinely confused. "Sorry? Why...why sorry? You didn't do anything." And then we explained to him that people just use it to express sympathy or empathy in the states, and he goes "oh... you didn't do anything though." His confusion was really endearing.

He asked us where we were from, and when we said Salt Lake City he looked a bit confused, which we expected because Utah isn't exactly the first place you think of when you think United States, but then the Manager got really excited and explained to him thats where the Olympics were a few years ago, and then BJoo got really excited about that. I explained to him that it was close to Las Vegas, and he laughed and said he wanted to go to Vegas, so I invited him with us. Then he goes "Pshh I have no money!" Laira leaned in a bit closer and went "We'd pay for you", to which I backed her up and told him he should do it. He laughed and said it sounded fun, and we talked a little bit about the times we've went and stuff.

From there, he asked how we liked Korea, and if we'd had Soju yet. I told him we had, and he asked if we liked Soju or wine more and we talked about that. The manager joked about him liking Whiskey and BJoo made a face.

"What, you don't like Jack Daniels?"

BJoo stared at me for a minute and blinked, "Jack...?"

The manager at that point laughed and shook his head and told us that BJoo really didn't like liquor and didn't know the brand 'Jack Daniels'.

"Oh! You don't drink?? What about coffee?"

He shook his head again and kinda laughed, "Nooo... I like sweet!! Tea! Iced tea!"

So then we started talking about Peach Tea, and how he really liked sweet things, and the manager made fun of him for that too. I then asked him if he liked Mochas and sweet coffee and he goes 'oh yea, I like those!'

While talking we were waiting for more food, and things got kinda quiet again, and he asked us if we knew any Korean. We said a little, and he asked 'but are you good?' We said no, and he leaned forward.

"Okay! Since we wait for food, it's time to learn 'I am hungry', okay?"

We all nod and go "okay!"

He grinned and goes "Sangwon i pabo"

So, of course, all four of us stupid American's repeat back "Sangwon i pabo", with varying levels of accuracy.

"No, no, no, no--" he shakes his head, "You have to mean it - be /loud/. You're /really/ hungry!" He leaned back, started to rub his stomach, and he repeats it again, so we all repeat it again - and at this point in time, I notice Laira goes 'wait', and our new friend Cheri who was sitting next to me stops too. So now it's mostly my stupid ass repeating back and forth this little phrase with BJoo. This is probably a good point in time to mention Yano's sitting right next to BJoo, and up until now he's been spending most of his time talking to the Australian ToppKlass.

Cue him whipping his head around and looking at us.

"You know what 'Sangwon' is, right??"

Laira leaned forward just a bit, "It's...your name."

Meanwhile, I'm confused, because it took me up until now to start saying 'pabo' instead of 'pablo', and BJoo was laughing. Cheri then looked at me and goes "You've been calling Yano an idiot this whole time."

I was mortified and wanted to scream because I LOVE YANO. So immediately I started trying to apologize, especially since I know he gets his feelings hurt fairly easily, and he just shook his head and said it was fine. But I swear I died a little inside on that day. [[Mmmm whatcha say playing in the distance]]

Around this time BJoo picked up one of the longer toothpicks he had collected on his plate and turned to Laira. "Do you like Pencing?"

We were a bit confused. Until he made a stabbing motion with his toothpick and said it again, and we realized he meant fencing, and she told him she never had before. So he motioned to the toothpicks, and I really wished I got this on video, but he started to fence with her from the toothpicks and they each stabbed each other a couple of times. It was great to watch. By now, more food showed up, and I started talking to BJoo about his hair since its the chestnut brown color right now. We asked if he liked it when it was blonde and he said he did, and then he and I talked about blonde hair care products because I love stuff like that (for those of you curious, he had a purple shampoo that his stylist gave him). He said now that he's a little older he likes the more 'natural' colors, and he prefers it when its shorter than when it's long - he said he wants to be seen as more mature.

Around this time, he also turned to Laira (since he was right next to her and I was right across, he did a lot of talking to us), and goes "So, do you have husband?"

And, once again, bold and ballsy Laira goes, “No, would you like to be my husband?"

And he stared for just a beat before turning back to the cheese plate and going 'DELICIOUS' really loudly and shoving a bit of cheese into his mouth. Then everyone laughed and he got embarrassed, but laughed with - he was really funny about it, it was great. We asked him if he was ok or if we upset him with the joke and he said 'no its funny!', and laughed. I told him that was payback for making foreigners call Yano stupid.

That was around the time he switched seats (and by 'switched seats' I mean Hansol was screaming "BYUNGJOO" from the other table because he needed to move apparently), so he waved goodbye to us for now and wandered off.

Later on, we got to meet up and talk to him again, and I had earlier mentioned that we brought them gifts. We sought out BJoo to give him his mountain of presents. We had made each member a Valentine card (I didn't get any pictures before we gave them out, but I do have one of PGoon holding his), and a Valentine's bag of candy that we get from local candy shops near my house. BJoo also got a muscle tank top with a cat on it that says 'Yeah bro I lift' - so yes, those pictures floating around of him in that shirt, I saw it, and Laira bought it for him. He put it on immediately and wore it for the rest of the event. She also got him a Spirited Away lanyard and Haku neck pillow since he likes Miyazaki things, and some One Punch man stickers since he likes OPM. We sat and talked about OPM with him for a sec (he was stoked over the Saitama sticker). We also got him a few more shirts with cats on them, one said 'Hug Life' since it reminded us of one of the 'Thug Life' shirts that he has.

When they were doing the certificate ceremony and 'thanks for coming' speech, BJoo spent most of his time playing with the candles. He and Hojoon kept blowing them out and relighting them, until PGoon threatened them with our present. (and even then, BJoo only stopped for a few minutes before he was back at it again).

He was extremely fun to take pictures with and talk to, and I adore BJoo. He's the sunshine child of the group imo

Somewhere outside Namibia

The past few days seemed to have passed so quickly, yet at the same time going through it, it felt like it would take forever to go by. We arrived at our first port, Walvis Bay – Namibia, on the 26th of May morning, only to be told to go to anchorage because reasons. So we basically anchored off at Anchorage number 3 or whatever it was called, because there wasnt anyone there save for this one other multi purpose who seemed to have only 4 containers loaded. 1 on each corner of the upper deck/ hatch covers (2 forward, port and starboard and 2 in front of accomodation, also port and starboard). Anyway, we spent the rest of the day resting up after dropping anchor (9 on deck) because once we berthed it was all hands on deck. For the AB and OS at least anyway. I was relegated to gangway watch from 1730 to 2330, and conversely 0530 to 1130. But prior to my first gangway watch, i was stuck in the ship office with chief answering to the beck and call of the various parties boarding the ship. Immigrations, customs, port inspectors, police, health inspectors etc etc. Sometimes it feels like we are at their mercy. They can just call for you like calling some waiter or waitress at a restuarant.

“You, come here. I want a copy of your ship particulars, NIL list, stores decleration, crew list, vaccination list.” and barely a few minutes later after having to sort through what seemed like a million pieces of paper locating all these documents he calls again and asks where are the papers. All this while i have to serve him with a smile water and soft drinks. I guess thats the price we must pay for doing what we do.

Also, i had my first taste of the 'compliments' system. The immigration officers (if i remember correctly) asked chief about certain 'presents'. With a sheepish look he replied to hold on for a moment while he checked if there was anything. Eventually we handed over a carton of cigarettes to them. That was the only instance i saw at this port because i had to go start my duty at the gangway.

The stevedores are another group of people entirely. This port didnt seem too bad, but there was this one guy that kept trying to get things from me/us. Water, some form of drinks, cigarettes. Hell he even wanted my boiler suit and jacket. Also quite surprising some other guy asked me for our ship's pass holder, which is to say the plastic holder and lanyard. He said it was good to hold his port pass. Well, i had more in the ship office, but they were spares for us and in the pass box i didnt have any so i just said thats all we have and sorry.

What i dont understand throughout this first stay, and for sure all the future stays in ports is, that why do people want to take things from the ships when they, rightfully (or not) should be giving us things because we are out at sea with no chance of resupply till we get to a port. I was told stories that inspectors would come on board and take cartons of juices, yes cartons, because they never had it before or they like the taste or whatever clown reasons they have. I mean, is it really fair to people on the ship? You take our provisions and other things and what are we left with when we leave port? Especially when we are not resupplying at that port. We go out to sea with reduced food and drink for ourselves? If we had to go back to Singapore from Walvis Bay, lets say (because thats the journey i know, since i just did it) its 22 days or so out in the open sea. And we run out of food? Drinks? Then again thats just my thinking. Who am i anyway? Im just a cadet on a ship for the first time.

Anyway enough of that. The 3 days we spent at port was both long and short, as i have mentioned. It feels short now that we've set sail again (and that i finally feel a bit more rested to sit down and spend time writing these things out), but standing at the gangway doing duty for 6 hours straight felt like an eternity. And thats all there was for my port stay. 6 hours on duty, 6 hours rest. Which usually meant sleeping, no matter what was the time. I didnt get to go out on shore because no one from my 'shift' wanted to go. So i can safely say that the furthest ive been in Namibia was the 4th step on my gangway from my ship.

Also, whoever said that Africa is hot, should actually go to africa. At least the southern part. It was so cold my goodness. It was below 15 degrees everyday we were there, and dropped to anything from 12 to 14 degrees at night. Which isnt so bad actually, except for the fact that the wind will absolutely kill you if you dont dress warmly. Which for us meant long johns, boiler suit and thick jackets. The first night, where i did not have my jacket was the absolute worst night of them all. The wind was relentless in its battering and i had to resort to hiding in the space between the watertight door and inner door to the ships accomodation area. It wasnt that bad in the day, with the sun warming up the air a bit. But i still wore the jacket anyway, simply for the fact that i can hide from the winds this way. Also, it was really foggy/misty, like everyday. Usually clears around noon-ish or so, then picks up again at night. I would delve into meteorology but ill spare everyone and myself included for trying to think about the causes.

For the port itself, it was quite a small port i think. I mean, you cant compare it to Singapore/Shanghai/any top 5 ports you want to put here, but still it feels smaller than what i would have expected it to be. There were maybe like 20 berths in total? And even the cranes are general purpose, none of them were specially fitted for containers. So that meant that if you were unloading containers first, they would attach this special fixture onto the chain block of the crane and when in position, the stevedores would make sure that the container was firmly attached before lifting it off the ship and onto the jetty. Even then, it didnt look anything like what was happening in Singapore (ive been into pasir panjang thrice now. Basically there would be the trailer waiting to pick up the container straight off the crane and drive off, with the next one waiting behind). Instead the container was lifted off the ship and onto the jetty straight away, and just before placing it on the jetty, the stevedores would again remove the twist locks from the bottom section of the containers (twist locks are for holding the container in place while at sea. Its basically a locking mechanism that makes sure that the container stays in place). Then after they check the container number and stuff, they would get another vehicle, like a special forklift cum crane thing that would pick it up and place it onto a trailer that basically just arrived from wherever. In singapore, this process would be maybe 5 minutes start to finish. Here its essentially double the time at least. Then once all the containers that are supposed to be unloaded are unloaded, the crane brings the chain block down to the jetty level, and the stevedores remove the attachment and replaces it with a suitable replacement as to what cargo would be picked up next, i.e. Slings, chain slings, hooks etc etc for picking up the bulk/general cargo. We unloaded quite a bit of cargo here. We unloaded all of the containers on number 4 hatch, and i think some from number 2 hatch as well, and basically emptied out hold 4. We also did some sketchy balls to the walls discharging from hatch 2. Because there was cargo on the deck/hatch cover, on the tween deck and also in the lower hold of number 2. Luckily they were all on the forward part. So we opened up hatch 2 forward part after discharging the cargo on the deck, then discharged the cargo on the tween deck forward in number 2, then removed the pontoon, and then discharged the cargo from the lower hold forward section also. It was pretty risky as there were trucks and some transformers in the hold, to be precise it was 16 trucks. Dont ask me about number of transformers, i dont know. Anyway from the cargo we are carrying, it seems a lot of it is being used to build a power plant and also for construction (trucks w/ trailers). I am quite happy to be a part of this industry for this reason.

We may not be directly involved, but we somewhat enable countries to grow because they are able to get the goods that they need to progress. It may seem somewhat abstract, like what has a shipping company, whose interest is making the most money out of every space they can find on the ship, got to do with the growth of a country?

Chief said this to me before, and i had somewhat similar thoughts about it before (its probably not exactly what he said, since this was like one or two weeks ago and it was about cargo damage or something);

If the cargo doesnt get to its destination on time or in working order, we are affecting someone's livelihood directly or indirectly. We are part of a long chain of a process, and no matter how small it may seem that it is, what happens to the cargo when we are transporting it affects what will happen when we deliver it to the cargo owner.

If the cargo owner is shipping a single transformer that is critical for the project, and it gets damaged because of loading/unloading/sea spray/water leaking into cargo hold or literally anything else that can damage it, it would directly affect its ability to carry out the job. If this transformer was all thats left to power up a whole town or something (dont hang me on this i actually am not sure what a transformer's purpose is), and because it was damaged, it means that the town would not get the power that it needs.

So yeah. Thats one of the reasons why I wanted to do this as well. As small and abstract a part as it may seem, I can take solace to the fact that I am part of a global industry that connects and enables people from different countries to work together.

At least on this multipurpose vessel. Im not too sure about containers yet.

Anyway when we were in port, 2nd officer went out on shore leave and i think at the request of the captain, purchased sim cards enough for 16 people or something like that. The cards gave us 1gb of data and like 500mb or something for dedicated whatsapp messages. And smses, but who uses sms nowadays right /shrug.

So we were able to actually contact people at home and stuff. Which was nice. It helped a lot during the ungodly long hours of duty. I spent most of my data i think downloading my spotify playlists and using instagram, telegram, facebook and stuff. I still had like 300mb of whatsapp data but i dont really use whatsapp that much. I spent a lot of the data sending some pictures and videos that i had that werent already transferred to my laptop.

And that's that. My 3 days in my first ever port in this new journey. Hopefully the time would pass a bit faster now that we are getting into the swing of things.

Now that im back in the open sea with no data, i cant translate properly into german since my german is absolutely shit for all, but i was thinking of salty sea dog, which i guess would translate to something like saltzliches see hund. Oh well. Or i could just go with Deutsche See Hund. Im still deciding.
