"I can take your plate, Mom, if you're done," Vivian offered.
"Thank you, honey."
With her last forkful of cake, Kathleen noticed a suspicious ring on Vivian's finger. Kathy nearly choked when she saw it. "Vivian, what are you wearing?" she asked.
"Hm?"
"That can't possibly be an engagement ring," Kathy scoffed.
"So what if it is?"
Their parents looked up at Vivian expecting more.
"Is that true, honey?" Lila asked.
"It can't be true, Mom. I've never seen her with a man! She's just doing this for attention."
"You're right, I'm not with a man."
"Well then you're not engaged," she replied flatly.
Vivian gave a tight smile through a clenched jaw in response.
"She's lying!" Kathleen cried. "She's--"
"Kathy," Will began. "We don't need to--"
"She's just doing this because I'm actually engaged and she's jealous!" Kathleen was nearly shaking she was so angry.
"For your information, no one has ever been jealous of you, Kathy. Not even for a single second."
Will sighed, a fight was the last thing he wanted tonight.
Kathy dramatically turned away from Vivian.
"Girls," Lila tried.
"Tonight is your father's birthday, and the first time we've been together like this in such a long time. Let's not fight, please?" Lila pleaded.
"Besides," Lila continued, "Isn't it lovely that both of our girls are engaged, Will?"
"Well, I don't know," Will confessed. "I'm inclined to agree with Kathy on this one."
"What?" Lila was confused.
"I mean, if there's no man--"
"I--I can't believe what I'm hearing! So you think women can't marry each other?"
"No, but she's not a--"
"I'm not what, Dad?"
Will and Lila fell blank as a dreaded realization was coming to light.
"No one knows who or what I am except me!" Vivian declared.
"We didn't know," Lila spoke for both of them, keeping her eyes on Will. "But, I suppose, we can learn to accept--"
"Don't bother. This is exactly why I didn't tell any of you. I knew this town was too small for us."
A sinful satisfaction came over Kathleen as her parents and Vivian fought. She was right; in the eyes of her family and many like-minded neighbours, her sister's "engagement" would be less legitimate than Kathy's.

Lila Rose, founder and president of the non-profit Live Action, was a guest on "Dating Talk" and had the opportunity to ask J. Waller some questions about his refusal to be monogamous. He says he just isn't wired that way, and he spent the better part of his 20s trying to change, but it just didn't happen. He will never commit to just one woman.
"But you're a man of self-control. You work out, you do business. You possess your own power and direct it the way you want to direct it," Lila says.
"It's not how I am," he says, not even making eye contact with her.
"You think that might be a limited mindset?" she responds.
He becomes visibly angry at the line of questioning and launches into a tirade of ad hominem insults rather than actually defending his position.
"I think it's none of your business," he snaps. "I don't want you to think I'm triggered by you, I'm not. I saw somebody say that, and I think that's interesting. I think you're annoying, but I'm not triggered. You are, you're annoying, in like this goody-two-shoes type way, and that's fine. I'm going to live my life on my terms, unapologetically, truly, so you can ask me this 85 different ways. At the end of the day, I'm going to walk out of here the same man."
Lila simply smiles and allows him to insult her, knowing that she has taken the high road and has clearly struck a nerve. Throughout the conversation, he is never able to make eye contact with her and is slouched over the microphone. Many people online identify his behavior and body language as a person who is not fully confident in his own beliefs and decisions. Meanwhile, Lila is sitting straight up and doesn't appear to be phased, not even by his insults.

It is not right for democratic societies to vote on the fundamental rights of unpopular minorities. There is no more unpopular minority today than preborn Americans.
Abortion is not about the “will of the people,” it’s about respecting the human right that we are endowed with by our creator. Our rights come from God, not the government. Those rights do not change because of the circumstances of our conception.
