Sage Alternative: Oregano Smoke Cleansing Stick
Tumblr media
Hello, lovelies!
I’ve pondered on making a cleansing stick for a long time now, with produce from my garden. One of the most common (and very fragrant) plants in my area is Philippine Oregano (origanum vulgare). Aside from being very fragrant it’s a versatile plant with a lot of medicinal properties.
I’ve also included some flowers from my garden, taking care to pick a variety of blossoms that are 1) very young, 2) in their prime and 3) close to wilting to mirror the maiden-mother-and-crone. In between the oregano and the various flowers I included there won’t be anything this cleansing stick won’t purify!
More details under the cut.
The other flowers I’ve included are Asystasia, Cape forget-me-not (or blue plumbago), Orange Crossandra, and a flower we call white angel (Wrightia antidysenterica) in the Philippines. I can specify their properties if there’s enough interest!
I also took care to gather the oregano leaves that aren’t ‘fresh’ or close to drying up because I think it’d help with the smoking bit and also because the fresher growth are better to harvest to flavor food. :))
I’d rather not contribute to the industry that profits off of sage that’s why I’m really attracted to the idea of making my own cleansing stick with readily available produce. I also have a better relationship with the oregano plant because I grew up with it, and it’s everywhere where I’m from. There’s folkloric* (not to mention effective) use of the oregano so why not harness it’s properties?
*For example, masticated oregano leaves are used as a salve for burns.

31 Days of Craft- Day 1
Hello friends!
Sorry for the lack of recent posts, life got in the way! I’m trying something new now which is this 31 Days of Craft Challenge.
I’d like to be able to share an aspect of my craft to everyone here, and this is one easy way! so for day one the question is “What forces would you say pushed you onto you path, if any?”
I don’t think there were forces so much as I had an inclination for things that lead to witchcraft. I picked up tarot  first when I was around 8 or 9, then it led me to the practice of witchcraft. I picked up cartomancy after my first and only tarot deck then got damaged. I’ve always liked nature and even as a kid I liked the practice of meditation a lot so I took to aspects of witchcraft quite well.
I have to say, thought it has been a while for me. I practiced for a time when I was young, and stopped for many reasons. I’m trying to pick it up again now that I’m older and with more agency to myself. It is a relearning process, and it’s going quite well so far!
