Five days, five whole days had gone by since that night when Y/N had tol Lucas to leave the apartment, not one single text or call to check how she was doing, much less him coming home and as much as the hazel eyed woman wanted to pretend like it didn’t hurt her, truth is she had been laying on the couch in her pj’s without moving, just watching Grey’s Anatomy for the fifth time. Y/N was curled up on the couch one evening when she heard the front door but she stayed in the way she was, not enough energy to move to see who it was, coming into her place. “Oh. My. God, babe….nuh, hell no, you need to get your shit together” she heard the voice of her best friend Gabriel coming in from the living room’s threshold as the tall guy made his way to her pulling the blanket off of her and turning the tv off she whined.
“Gabi, nooo. let me, I’m in the best part” Y/N protested pointing at the tv without looking at the arched brow on the black haired guy.
“You know Grey’s by heart, don’t know what this fucker did now, but I’m taking you out, you haven’t answered to my calls or texts in days, come on” as she reluctantly let her friend pick her up from the couch and walk her to the bathroom “also, you smell, and your hair is so greasy I can fry an egg on your head, you’re not this, come on, you take an all in all shower and I’ll make you something to eat, we’re going out tonight bitch” he smiled turning around and going straight to the kitchen after leaving Y/N to stare at her reflection in the bathroom mirror. As she took her image in she rubbed her face and stepped into the shower letting the steaming water to run through her body washing that week off her body, mind and soul, maybe Gabriel was right and going out would be good to her, after all, it was clear that Lucas wasn’t thinking about her, so why should she be sulking over that wanker.
Fourty minutes later she finished blowdrying and styling her hair, her staple beach waves adorning her strawberry blonde hair she took her makeup bag out and looked at her friend who came into the room with a sandwich just as she said “Alexa, play my hot girl revenge era playlist” as …Ready for it? by Taylor Swift started playing through the speaker Gabriel handed her the play. “This is my bad bitch bestie!” he smiled turning around to look at the outfit laid out on the bed “damn, red lace top, leather pants and jacket, you going out to eat! I love” Y/N chuckled as she ate her sandwich while doing her makeup. Once they were ready they ordered an Uber and headed out.
Tumblr media
“Ok, so…you know how I am obsessed with Andy from La sociedad de la nieve? well, I saw he will be at this club tonight, so, that’s where we’re going, I ain’t asking, just letting ya know mkay?” Y/N chuckled softly nodding knowing that if Andy was there, there was a chance that Esteban would be and she bit the inside of her lip because why did the thought of kuku being there made her insides flutter and the heat rise in her whole body, she hadn’t told Gabriel about the whole Esteban thing tho, and she decided to keep it that way.
“I’m gonna get so drunk tonight” Y/N chuckled as they got out of thr uber before making their way inside with the passes Gabriel had secured for them. As soon as the blonde set foot inside she headed to the bar to get herself a drink needing to keep her mind quiet only knowing that way to do it. Y/N rested against the bar looking out into the dancefloor as she downed her mojito searching for her first victim, determined as she was to two things, get herself drunk, and secure a hot man to make her forget about the fact that the man she had loved for 5 years had all but forgotten about her in the last week. She knew she was the one who had told him to leave, but Y/N never thought he wouldn’t come back after that night, they might be in a horrible spot, but Lucas was still her boyfriend, and in some way she still loved him, or maybe it was just the comfort of knowing what it was like.
As soon as Esteban walked into the club with the guys later that night, he could see Y/N, she was up on a table dancing and immediately a mixture of feelings cursed through his blood. A perfect combination of lust, desire, rage at seeing how the other men around her gawked and touched her legs and protectiveness over the fact that she was clearly intoxicated, the cigarette hanging from her lips quite a sexy sight as she moved to the beat of the music. Without even hesitating about it, he made his way across the dancefloor swiftly, he didn’t give a flying fuck anymore about Lucas, if he wasn’t going to take care of her, he would. When he got up to the table where Y/N was he pushed the men aside and looked at her “Y/N can you please get down from that table?” he held his hand out for her. When Y/N heard that voice over the music she knew exactly who it belonged to, only Esteban’s voice could send a jolt of electricity down her spine straight to her center and she turned around to face him shaking her head moving down just so she was at his level.
“Now…why would I handsome? can’t you see how many gentleman are offering to get me drinks?” she smirked whispering in his ear biting her lower lip as she moved in front of her face stopping just mere inches away from his staring down into his eyes and kuku swore she could see right into his soul, those Hazel orbs were so deep and entrancing. Before she could get away he picked Y/N up in his arms, his hands resting in the back of her thighs just below her ass cheeks and put her down from the table walking away. “Esteban put me down” the girl said in a tone she hoped to be firm and demanding but that much against her will came out breathy and whiny. Once they were far enough from that table and closer to the rest of the guys the brown eye guy let her down purposefully running his hands up Y/N’s sides which caused a new wave of electricty and goosebumps to course through the younger one’s body.
“Whatever you say babygirl” Esteban said looking straight into Y/N’s eyes his hands resting on the girl’s exposed waist. Her skin is as soft and warm as he had dreamt it would be. His eyes switching between the blonde girl’s eyes and lips as she spoke, not that he could hear what she was really saying all he was really thinking about was how much he wanted to kiss her right now, press her against his body and finally taste her lips. As Y/N kept complaining about what a killjoy he had been for taking her down from the table she found herself quite intoxicated, not only by the booze running thought her bloodstream but also by the taller guy’s perfume flooding her senses, she couldn’t think straight, his hands were still on her waist, her boobs pressed to his chest and she could see how dark his eyes were while looking at her.
Y/N didn’t know if it was the alcohol or the fact that she couldn’t deny anymore how hot Kuku was but she grabbed his shirt in her fists to pull him down to her crushing her lips to his, her eyes fluttered closed and she felt the sigh escape from the eldest lips and she took the chance to deepen the kiss as they started fighting for dominance in the kiss. Esteban’s hands slowly moved around exploring Y/N’s body at the same time as he pulled her closer to him if that was even a possibility, the soft moans escaping the girl’s lips taking his chance to tug on her lip as he pushed her up against a nearby wall her hands wrapping around his neck holding him closer to her as his lips trailed down her jaw to her neck slowly kissing all over, each touch setting a fire on her skin that lingered after he had moved on to the next. When kuku placed a kiss onto the spot right under Y/N’s ear she moaned into his ear closing her eyes as she could feel the smirk on his face right before he bit down on it gently.
Before Y/N could even stop herself she pressed her center to his, eager to feel as much of him as she could without taking their clothes off, but as soon as kuku felt her doing that his hands went back to her hips and he pulled himself apart a bit biting his lip, their breathing heavy and irregular with desire and need. He looked at the girl and leaned in whispering in her ear “as much as this is turning me on, and no matter how much I wanna take you home and fuck you right now, you’re one, quite drunk, and two, still my friend’s girlfriend as far as I know, and no matter how much of a douchebag he may be, I won’t do that” kuku rested his forehead against hers closing his eyes and while Y/N wanted to hit him for cutting of the moment like that, the fact that he was so respectful made whatever she was feeling inside her at the moment for him, grow stronger and she nodded looking at every single one of his freckles.
Tumblr media
When Esteban pulled up outside of Y/N’s place he turned around to find her looking at him “wanna come in for a cup of coffee?” she smiled softly, her eyes still slanted from the alcohol pumping through her “I swear I won’t try to jump your bones…not that I don’t want to” she whispered the last part hopefully quiet enough to not be heard by the elder guy, but judging by his smirk, she hadn’t been successful “I just wanna thank you for bringing me home, plus I think you could use the caffeine”.
The brunette nodded getting out of the car with her and locking it before walking into her place as he looked around “so…Lucas isn’t here?” As soon as she had stepped foot into her home Y/N remembered the state of the place and hurriedly picked up around so that it wouldn’t look too messy shaking her head “no….truth is….he hasn’t been here for the past 5 days” she bit her lip hard as admitting it outloud made it all the more real. Once she had thrown everything out of sight she went to start the coffee pot and rested against the countertop looking at kuku, was that a slight smile she saw on his face?
“Have you two…broken up then?” He knew he shouldn’t be this happy over this possibility, a break up is always shitty but he couldn’t help but feel at least hopeful over the chance of things working out for him. He sat down on the kitchen island in front of Y/N.
“Well…not in so many words no, I mean, not officially, but we did have an argument, five days ago, I told him I didn’t wanna see his face around here that night and he left, hasn’t come back, texted or called since then.” She whispered the last part wrapping her arms around her own body and looked down to the floor to try and blink away those stupid tears that shouldn’t even be there in the first place. Kuku frowned seeing her upset and reached out pulling her to him gently making room for her to stand between his knees and hugged her tight kissing her head.
“Honestly….if he doesn’t see the kind of woman he has standing next to him he’s even dumber than I thought, it’s his loss, truly, if I were lucky enough to be in his place…” he mumbled cutting himself short when he realized what he was about to say when he saw Y/N look up at him with glossy eyes. He sighed  gently wiping her tears from her cheeks and took a deep breath before picking up where he left off, there was no use on denying what he felt now, even more so after seeing her cry, he only wanted to protect her and take care of her “If I were lucky enough to be in his place. I’d make sure to show you how important you are to me, I would do anything and everything in my power to help you achieve your dreams, you’re a wonderful person, gorgeous inside an out from what I’ve gotten to know you, and you deserve to have as your partner someone who sees how special you are and helps you shine on your own, who builds your light up, not someone who tries to dim you down.” Y/N kept looking at Esteban, not only could she look at him all night because he was the most gorgeous man she had ever seen, but hearing him say that, not only made her insides burn with desire, it made her heart swell with love.
That night, standing on that kitchen floor between Esteban’s knees, she understood two things, not only she didn’t love Lucas anymore and was determined to officially break things off with him as soon as possible, but she was also falling in love with the man in front of her, she was falling fast, she was falling hard, and she was falling deep in love with him and this was either gonna be the love story she was gonna tell her kids, or the break up that was gonna ruin her life. But either way, she was ready to find out.

Nowhere Boys Rewatch
So, Nowhere Boys aired for the first time 9 years ago on abc3.
And I, who has obviously not gotten over this show and probably never will at this point, have decided to rewatch the show in its entirety.
Yes, that does include The Nowhere Gang era, they’re just as much apart of this show as The Bremin Four.
In saying that though,
Bremin Four Run-Through
In order of appearance:
Felix Ferne
Eldest son of Ken and Kathy Ferne
Older brother of Oscar Ferne
Best friend of Ellen O’Donnell
Resident alt kid
What we know about Felix by the end of episode one is that his relationship with his parents isn’t all that great, with them spending all their energy overprotecting Oscar who is a wheelchair user. He is very close with his brother and Ellen, while quite a few of the kids at school treat him like shit. Regular Alt Kid type character stuff, you know the drill.
Jake Riles
Son of Sarah and Gary Riles
Only child
Parents had him as teenagers
Hangs out with Trent and Dylan
Footy Player
Bully
By the end of episode one with Jake is that while he’s mates with Trent and Dylan, he’s also friendly with Sam, but not so much with anyone else. His relationship with his mum is very close and while we don’t meet his dad until episode two, safe to say Jake doesn’t think highly of him. He’s not the nicest kid to be around in a school environment and definitely does not like their Science teacher Mr Bates.
(Not going to lie, I will bitch about Jake (and the rest of these kids, honestly.). It’s not that I don’t like him, I DO. But he can be a prick, especially at the beginning of the show.)
Andy Lau
Son of Nicole and Michael Lau
(Younger?) Brother of Viv Lau
Grandson of Lily Lau
Studious
Andy is the brain of the group from the jump. Grade A nerd with a not-so great social life but not for lack of trying. His family is very close but can be overbearing and protective of him. He’s the only kid who seems excited by the excursion and with his admiration for Bear Grylls brought up several times, it’s not had to make the connection that Andy wants to explore and experience things.
Sam Conte
Son of Dee and Tom Conte
Youngest brother of Pete and Vince Conte
Boyfriend of Mia (She never got a last name)
Popular kid at Bremin High
Skateboarder
Sam rounds off The Bremin Four as the popular kid. He’s very sociable and outgoing but can be oblivious as hell. His relationship with his family seem perfect and the same goes with his girlfriend, Mia, until she has to remind him that it’s their anniversary which he completely spaced on. She gives him a bracelet that she made and he… tells her to come to a skateboarding video that he’s filming the next day. One relationship Sam has that will never end is his one with food.
(Yeah… Sam’s my favourite, not even going to deny it. He has been since episode three aired. But trust me, I will bitch about him. I love him, he is my son… but he can also be a bit thick and a bit of a dick.)
 Episode Run-Through
Episode one takes us through the day of the Year 10 Science excursion to The Bremin Ranges. The students must pair up in groups of 4, with the groups already being selected. Felix tells Ellen on the way to school that he made sure that they were grouped together. Once at the excursion, the groups are announced with Ellen being in a group with Trent, Dylan and Mia while Felix is with Jake, Sam and Andy. Felix grabs the map and the group set off.
With Jake being fed up that Trent is “winning”, Felix suggests a shortcut which ends up leading nowhere. While the boys are fighting, Felix begins to fall down the side of the cliff, the others attempt to grab him but end up falling too.
Now stuck, the boys roam around, calling out for help until it gets dark and they have to set up camp for the night. Andy mentions the panther that apparently roams the forest but Sam says that it’s just a myth. Felix plays them a song he wrote in an attempt to “lighten the mood”. The next day the boys head off again to try and find help but a storm starts and a tornado follows them. They boys end up running into Roland, a man who lives on the edge of the forest who drives them back to town.
The boys check their phones and find that they still have no reception but split up and head home. But something’s up; Jake’s locked out of his house, Andy’s room has been redecorated, Sam’s brothers don’t seem bothered that he was gone, and Oscar can walk.
I remember watching this for the first time at 14 and I was hyped as shit. As you can see, my loved for this show has not died over time and probably never will. As I rewatch this show, it probably won’t be as thorough as this one except for the movie and episode one of series three where we meet The Nowhere Gang.
Let’s just face it, this is me being bored as shit and deciding to ramble myself stupid about a show that ended almost half a decade ago. But eh, I’m going to have fun with it and that’s all that really matters.
Finally,
Favourite Moments Of The Episode
Each of the boys having both a home life introduction and a school life introduction
“Ooh, I’m sooo good looking, everyone loves me. He’s such an airhead.” Felix, bud, you’re not insulting him in the first half.
Felix and Ellen pretending to throw up at the sight of Sam and Mia
Mr Bates calling Jake by his full name, Jacob (As this rewatch goes on, you will see me refer to Jake as Jacob cause he likes to STRESS ME OUT!)
“Come on, let’s hitchhike back to town.” “Uh, I heard that Ellen, and no, obviously.” The fact that this girl is going to end up being a teacher at this school…
“Our footy coach says, ‘When you’re going through hell, keep going!’” “That… was Winston Churchill.” “Well goths say, ‘When you’re going through hell, stop, cause you have arrived.’”
“Good one Dracula, let’s go.”
Sam having orienteering skills which will be brought up again later in the series.
Sam asking questions about Felix’s story about the footy players who got lost but immediately shutting down Andy about the panther lost in the forest.
When it starts to rain, Andy says that he likes the rain, foreshadowing what’s to come.
ROLAND! THE BEST DUDE!
Jake saying that he must’ve run out of credit since he has a brick phone. (I had one at the time of this airing, so I FEEL that.)
“Does our disappearances and miraculous reappearance seem like a bit of a non-event to you?” “Normal for me.” “Weird for me.”
“We can’t just separate; we just had a classic male bonding experience… Brief man hug?” “No way.” “Uh-uh.” “See you at school, then?” “I’ve never seen you or you, I don’t know you or you. Either of you talk to me, and I’ll crush you.” “Welp, I need food. See ya Brainiac Dude. …Goth Dude.” “I thought we bonded.” “On the upside, we didn’t resort to cannibalism. See ya.”
THAT ENDING. EVERYTIME MAN! I love this show, I really do.

Chapter 12, Where are we?
Previous Chapter
Next Chapter Your pov..... You woke up in the middle of a run down shack and scooted towards the nearest wall. "What the fuck" you whispered, as you stood up you grabbed a wooden plank off the floor and quietly made your way around the house. Then you heard a woman scream and you raced outside and saw Sam hugging a young woman. "Sammy" you screamed in relief and he turned in shock and you both threw your arms around each other, you noticing the other woman's anger as he did so. "Y/n what are you doing here?" "I have no idea,  last thing I remember is following you in to the diner then waking up in this shit hole" "You just seem to know everyone " said the man behind Sam. "Well Ava helped me out a while back and y/n is my sister" He explained. You then listened to Sam explain to Ava how she had been missing for five months and she explained  how she landed in this town only two days ago, but once she heard you were dating Sam's brother she seemed a bit nicer towards you. But you still couldn't help but not trust her, but your thoughts were interrupted by a man shouting out "Hello anyone there? " As the four of you went to investigate, you came across a man in a military uniform and a woman. Jake and Lily they said their names were. As you stood back listening to everyone fight about their so call super power and who was better of or worse off then who, You turned to Sam. "I get the competition, but Sammy I have no super powers, why am I here?" Sam looked at you and placed his arms around your shoulders "you know what, like it or not, we’re all here, and so we all have to deal with this.” "But who brought us here?" Andy asked. “Well, It’s less of a who,  It’s more of a what.” Sam answered. “ What does that mean?' Ava asked Sam. Sam tried to workout an easy way to say the following....it's a demon.” Everyone but you looked at him like he was crazy. When they all started arguing with Sam you stood in front of him. Looking at them all,  you spat out,   "You know what, I don’t really care what any of you think, okay? The only person I care about right now is Sam, cause all he is doing is to try and help you.” Jake interrupted you "The only thing I’ve gotta do is stay away from wackjobs, okay? I’ve heard enough" and he stormed off. Sam tried to shout after him,  but you shock your head no  "let him go Sammy" While Sam is trying to convince the others with the help of you, you all hear Jake shout and you all run towards him. When you entered the shack Jake was in  Sam managed to grab an iron poker, and hitting the demon she vanished in to thin air. You looked at Jake with disdain and said "oh incase you were wondering that was a demon ' Sam tried to explain what kind if demon it was but everyone was in too in shock to understand. Sam then whispered in your ear "I've seen that bell before" then explained to everyone exactly where you all were. "Swell. Good to know we’re somewhere so historical." Ava said sarcastically. "Can I smack this bitch" you hissed to Sam.
But disappointingly he shook his head no. Then it was lily's turn to have a meltdown. Sam tried to beg her to stay, but she turned on him. " You don’t know anything,  I accidentally touched my girlfriend." She exclaimed. " I’m sorry." Sam tried to reassure her. " Whatever. I feel like I’m in a nightmare, and it just keeps getting worse." Lily continued. When Sam tries to comfort her again but you interrupted " Oh boo fucking hoo. I'm feeling so sorry for myself" you mocked  "news flash your not the only one here. And your sob story we all have one. Me and Sam don't even know if the person we love the most is alive. But I’m telling you, the best way out of this is to stick together." "Fine." Lily shouted. Sam orders the group "We’re looking for iron, silver, salt any kind of weapon.” “Salt is a weapon?” Jake questioned “It’s a brave new world." Sam said. As you all entered the house looking for weapons,  lily walked in the opposite direction hearing a girl she walks faster trying to ignore it. Back at the house Ava is rubbing her head.  Sam worryingly asks her is she was okay. You rolled you eyes and walked off. Andy then rushed in with salt looking so pleased "great Andy" Sam smiled. " Hey Sam you said "Lily isn't here “. As you Sam searched the house you both hear a little girl laughing and when running outside you see lily hanging from the water tower.. As you prepared the group for the next demon attack you and Sam where talking about how you needed Dean. Andy over heard saying he could use his ability to help you get in touch with him. When you watched Andy you asked "did it work?" "It should have,  but we won't know for sure " he answered. "Great " you moaned. You sat in the corner of the room watching Sam look to Jake then Ava. Why did he try to be everyone's friend you huffed. You saw Ava gasp and cry,  I'm guessing Sam finally told her about her fiance you thought. You watched him heavily walk towards you and slump down. "You know Sammy" you laid your head on his shoulder" it's not your job to protect everyone. Please just think about you " He sighed as he put his arm around your shoulders. "Let's both get back to Dean" he kissed your hair. As both your eyes heavily closed Sam stood in front of the yellow eyes demon as he stood in front of the demon they began to argue of the battle royale the demon had planned for you all. "And what about y/n she doesn't have powers why bring her here?" Sam demanded. "Well Sam,  who ever wins and becomes the leader of my army will be the one to marry y/n,  she will give birth to the most powerful demons in the world. " He grinned "no one will harm her here,  but she does need to know who she will be mated to and I hope it's you." When Sam woke him and Jake took off in opposite directions to try and help everyone. Andy and you had stayed back at the abandoned building. Salting the windows. When Andy turns, Ava is stood at the window as she looks at him She drags her finger along the salt on the windowsill, breaking the line. "What are you doing" Andy shouts at Ava. She stares at him a moment, then puts her hands to her head in concentration. A demon enters the room through the window where the salt line is broken. "Ava" Andy's voice shakes. After the demon kills Andy.  Ava screams.. You rush down the stairs and in to Sam at the front door. Sam! I just found him like this! Ava screams "What happened? You accused. “I don’t know!" Ava defended. "How’d that thing get in? Where were you? You shouted. “I just went to get some water from the well. I was only gone maybe, like, two minutes!" She replied. "You shouldn’t have gone outside. Ava, we have to stay in here" Sam spoke softly to her. When you pointed at the salt on the window and how it was broken you asked her "who did that Ava. I don’t know, maybe Andy" she defended. You looked at Sam and raised your eyebrows "Andy wouldn’t do that. Ava, that line wasn’t broken when I left. "Sam argued. “What? You don’t think that I did that" she whimpered. "I’ll tell you what I think: five months. You’re the only one with all that time you can’t account for. And that headache you got? Right when the demon got Lily.” you spat at her. What are you trying to say? Ava shouted. What happened to you?" Sam questioned. “Nothing!” She exclaimed. But when Sam stared her down she dropped the act, and laughs a little. “Had you going though, didn’t I Sam? Yeah. I’ve been here a long time. And not alone, either. People just keep showing up. Children, like us. Batches of three or four at a time.” “You killed them? All of them?” Sam was disgusted. “I’m the undefeated heavyweight champ”. Ava smiled. “Oh, my God." Sam took a step back. “Don’t think God has much to do with this, Sam." She laughed at "you see I had no choice. It's me or them. After a while, it was easy. It was even kind of fun. I just stopped fighting it.” "Fighting what?" You hissed. "Who we are, well me and Sam. If Sam would just quit his hand-wringing and open him self up, he has no idea what he can do. The learning curve is so fast, it’s crazy, the switches that just flip in your brain. I can’t believe I started out just having dreams. Do you know what I can do now? She gloated. "Control demons. You scoffed. "Ah, you are quick on the draw. Shame your just an incubation Yeah, I’m sorry, Sam. But, it’s over for you” she smirked. You stood in front of Sam as the cloud of black smoke returns to the window. Just as it is about to enter, you rush towards her knocking her to the ground. As you both fight you managed to get behind her and snap her neck " I've wanted to that since we got here" you scowled. Think we can make it out of here now. Sam said to you and Jake "Not “we”, Sam. Only one of us is getting out of here. I’m sorry. Jake argued. “What?" You and Sam seemed confused. “I had a vision. That Yellow-Eyed Demon or whatever it was, he talked to me. He told me how it was." Jake explained. “No, Jake, listen. You can’t listen to him." Sam begged. “Sam, he’s not letting us go. Only one. Now, if we don’t play along, he’ll kill us both. Now, I like you, both of you man. I do. But do the math here. I'm not allowed to killer her What good’s it do for both of us to die? Now, I can get out of here. I get close to the demon, I can kill the bastard.” he argued. "You come with me, we can kill him together. Sam tried to convince him. How do I know you won’t turn on me? Jake accused. Sam shows Jake his knife and throws it to the ground. “Just come with us, Jake. Don’t do this. Don’t play into what it wants." You begged. Much to your relief Jake throws his weapon on the ground as well. “Okay. Let's go" you sighed. Suddenly, Jake punched you . With his super-strength, you went flying across the field and crashed onto the ground. Then he focused on Sam. Him and Sam fought for their lives and finally Sam got the better of Jake knocking him unconscious. Sam then ran to you and helping you up you both hobbled towards Dean’s voice. When you saw Dean,  your Dean,  you couldn't stop the tears of relief. As you and Sam walked slowly toward him your face turned from relief to confusion as Deans face turned to distraught  then you heard him calling Sam and you felt Sam trailing you to the ground. You looked in in shock as Dean held his brother. Kneeling beside him all you could think was no no this wasn't happening no this wasn't real no no no no no.

EPISODE👏 REVIEW👏 hsmtmts season 2 episode 10: get ready for some enthusiastic writing and a little too much looking into details
first off seb doing the intro made my heart happy i love him
ok i know everyone has been saying it but there is no way in hell they’re winning the menkies. unless the writers just go with the main character favoritism route, there’s just no way. however for the sake of comedy, watching ashlyn give us everything in the transformation scene and ricky being an absolute disaster is SO funny to me. like shout out to joshua because that scene made me laugh so hard. also a trio i need more of is kourt, red and ej. i just feel like they would be dramatic gossipy bitches and i love that for them.
normally i think ms. jenn’s reactions are over the top but after seeing the shit show that just occurred 2 mins before... i think her reaction is very valid because oh god.
continuing with the theme of friendship dynamics we haven’t seen a lot of but we absolutely need more of, ashlyn and ricky!! that scene was so sweet and wholesome. i’m so so so glad the writers didn’t fall into the trap of making characters take sides after a break up. i just feel like it’s been done a million times before. but seeing ashlyn being so genuine when checking up in ricky made me so happy. the caswells remain being the superior characters (including gina obvs)
ms. jenn and mr. mazzarra are cute don’t get me wrong but they should’ve spent more time developing that relationship instead giving ms. jenn like 3 random love interests and that’s all i’ll say on that.
i love imagining what characters are saying when they’re just ad libbing. like what could ej, gina, ricky and red be talking about before carlos shows up to start the scene?? my guess is they’re all gushing about how amazing ash is and no i don’t take criticisms on that.
alright i’ll say it. the seblos drama is weak at best. they didn’t spend enough time developing it and kind of pushed it to the background so when it was one of the main focuses of the episode it was kind of like ok?? HOWEVER i did love the resolution to it and the deeper look into their individual characters. (i’ll talk more about this later)
carlos calling ms. jenn mother and everyone immediately knowing who he was talking about sent me omfg. but also who the fuck let these high schoolers try to figure out this transformation scene by themselves?? they collectively have 2 brain cells and they just bounce around between the 9 of them depending on the scene. but playful sleepover competition!! also gina nudging ej when he goes a little too ej 1.0 was everything.
i hate lily and i love sassy red. that’s all.
(im going to talk about the boys/girls sleepovers like they’re each one continuous scene respectively because it’s way easier than switching back and forth)
fun new friendship dynamics!! the boys!! sebbie and the girls! iconic. i know that the show is meant to be in a mockumentary style so we only see parts of the characters lives but i would give my left arm to see the boys getting closer and becoming friends. this is also the first scene where i really noticed ricky’s shirt. ricky is queer disney are just cowards. i’m not a big ricky/ ej shipper but the pretty boy had me feeling some type of way. carlos being worried about seb and their relationship and then red being like well this is why. bc he’s got a spy on the inside was peak friendship. but seriously disney?? just say gay. it’s not a bad word. now imma freak out about PORTWELL OMFG I WAS ALREADY FREAKING OUT DURING THIS SCENE SO YOU CAN IMAGINE HOW WELL I WAS DOING LATER ON. but ej just being like im not ready to put myself out there because of nini i don’t wanna get rejected... again. my heart went out to him. you can really see how much he’s grown as a person. but sure ej y’all are “buddies” also him saying the one thing i’m proud of from my time with nini was letting her go and ricky’s reaction to that hurt me to my core.
alright let’s talk about the girls and seb. first off i love that they’re actually working and the boys are doing fuck all LOL. seb actually talking about how he feels?? good for him. i hate that he thinks that carlos is only with him because there’s limited options but at least he’s talking about it. a moment of silence for ash’s scissor bucket (i won’t make a gay joke. i won’t make a gay joke. i won’t-) anyways... i really thought that maybe ash would know about portwell but it’s fucking EVERYONE. like y’all are that perceptive about other peoples relationships but not your own?? that’s why all y’all have relationship drama. gina not wanting to put herself out there because she’s afraid of getting hurt?? ouch. gina thinking ej is just being nice?? ouch but also gina, sis?? what. also nini reacting that way to the chocolates is so out of pocket. like 1) y’all aren’t dating anymore so what’s got you so pressed? 2) gina made it clear that they weren’t actually from ricky 3) nini you know they had some sort of chemistry before you and ricky got back together so this really shouldn’t be that surprising.
anyways the scene with ricky and carlos broke me. the decision for ricky to not show nini the song was so mature. despite wanting to get her back, he KNOWS that that would only drag her back and that’s not fair to her and he knows it. but his awareness of seblos’s relationship and wanting to help carlos work things out with seb was so wholesome and so sweet and is kind of a big moment of character development for him this season. like he was generally very selfish this season (again i’m a ricky apologist til the day i die but he was so selfish) and seeing him take the focus away from his problems to help carlos out was so sweet. also i need more ricky/carlos friendship moments.
kourt talking about howie learning her love language?? bitch you mean espionage?? i mean me too but that’s so fucking funny
ALRIGHT THIS IS THE PARAGRAPH WHERE I SCREAM ABOUT PORTWELL!!! i am so so so so happy right now about this. the fact that ej asked about risotto but for real was so satisfying and was blatantly like him saying i know we faked being in a relationship but what about it not being fake and omfg that’s so amazing. also gina being skeptical and asking if ash put him up to it and him saying not that i know of?? THE PARALLELS?? also gina this whole season has been talking about signs and finding reasons to stay, finding signs to know if someone is right for her and you can literally see the moment she realizes she said the same thing about the duke sweatshirt to jack. SHE KNOWS THIS IS HER SIGN and that’s so special to me. also ej’s nervous laugh after she says yes?? omfg. let’s look at ej’s character. historically he’s confident, cocky and generally puts on this facade of having his shit together but gina makes him nervous (in a good way). he doesn’t feel like he has to pretend to be confident around her. he’s showing her that he’s just as nervous as she is about this and that is just *chefs kiss* honestly not to be an andi mack stan but ej’s little nervous chuckle and ok after she says yes sounds like he’s letting out a breath he didn’t realize he was holding which seriously parallels tj after the tyrus confession. i’m just saying. ALSO GINA’S LITTLE EXCITED WALK BACK TO THE GROUP AHHHHHH
the seblos song?? i have no notes. it was incredible. frankie killed that shit. it was such a good song. so sweet. so wholesome. also ricky and carlos’s hug was so fucking meaningful to both of them and you can tell. ricky was absolutely beaming because he helped the two of them and it feels like a little bit of season 1 ricky shining through.
WHO THE FUCK LET A BUNCH OF HIGH SCHOOLERS RIG A KID IN THE AIR COMPLETELY UNSUPERVISED?? of course ricky fucking fell. that group shares 2 brain cells. obviously some dumb shit was going to happen

The world keeps spinning (it really shouldn't)
Vance did it. He defeated Josephine, saved his grandpa and Elliot, and saved the town. Everything's fixed.
No. Everything is awful. He failed, and now his friend- now Tom is gone.
And he'd rather fight Josephine all over again, because it'd be easier than what he has to do now- tell Andy about it.
Fandom: It Lives (Visual Novels)
Relationships: Andy Kang/Tom Sato, Danni Asturias/Imogen Wescott, (dannimogen is background and very brief but i couldn't resist), Andy Kang & Ava Cunningham & Lucas Thomas & Lily Ortiz
Additional Tags: tom dies and everything is awful, Angst, Grief/Mourning, Friendship, for basic context im going with the version of ILITW that i got, which is that everyone survived and noah took jane's place, and then for ILB i did the version where tom dies obviously, (which is not the version i got), (everyone survived), (i feel the need to say this for my own ego), but anyway i was like what if tho. andy would be devastated, and then... this happened?, only difference from canon is that ILITW MC told everyone about noah a lot before, also like. imma be real with yall, im physically uncapable of giving my MCs serious names, so ILB MC was named That Bitch and i didnt want to give him a real name, cuz it felt like betrayal, so im just calling him vance for this one, is it his nickname? is he called vance vance? dont worry about it, Anyway that's it, Pining, you know. before the death part. it's mentioned, also we're ignoring the whole richard tries to murder MC thing, cuz i dont have time for that, so pretend ILB ended on chapter 17, Hopeful Ending, considering the theme i mean
Read it on Ao3
The city of Westchester looks exactly the same, but somehow feels a lot less wholesome, now. Vance walks in it and feels like a corpse among the living, like a ghost screaming to everyone that something's wrong. And being ignored.
It shouldn't look the same, without Tom.
But no one knows, yet.
He swallows, running a hand behind the nape of his neck. That's why he's here, anyway - they should know, they deserve to know, and he doesn't want to have the funeral without Tom's friends there.
Which is why he's going to tell Andy. Himself, in person. Because he might not know him very well, but he wants to do the right thing, and that's the least Andy deserves. He knows there's no one Tom loved like he did Andy, and from what he's seen of them together, the feeling was mutual.
He has to do this. But he feels sick, just thinking about that bond, and how it was ruined.
How could he let this happen to them?
He was so cocky, so stupid, so reckless... He thought everything would turn out okay. Assumed it would, even, because it kept getting him through it, to think that everything would turn out fine.
God. What a joke.
He walks into the little diner Andy had recommended. I'm sure you've heard of that place, Tom loves it, he had texted. We always went there to celebrate our wins back in high school. His stomach had churned, but he didn't say anything, because he wasn't going to tell Andy via text. He has to do this right. It's the least he owes him.
So he pretended that everything was fine, and agreed to meet him there. Woke up, and dragged himself to the place, trying to muster up the courage to face the world that seemed to not even care about his mistakes.
When he gets to the diner's door, he takes a deep breath, trying to ground himself for what he's about to do. Face his own mistakes. Face the pain he caused when he failed them both.
He walks in, and to his relief, and despair, Andy is already there. He smiles brightly when he sees Vance, and Vance wants to disappear.
"Vance! Nice to see you, dude. I heard about what went down in Pine Springs, glad you're okay," he says, not giving time for Vance to answer before continuing, this weird sense of calm and sympathy about him. "So, I assume you still need help with that ghost? From what I've seen in the news, it seemed like you handled it pretty well, but it's not like they are giving us supernatural updates or anything, so I figured there were still some loose ends to tie. Are the other guys coming? Where's Tom?" he looks over behind Vance, and Vance wants to die at the question. God, how is he going to tell him? He didn't really think about that, beyond the part where he has to. "I kind of thought you'd come together again. Bad move to come separated, Tom is always late to everything, I swear if it weren't for me he'd have been kicked out of the team for missing practice too many times. And I'm not the most punctual guy in the world, mind you, but I still had to drag his ass there so he'd be on time- is everything okay?"
Vance is a little shocked by the question. It's not, but what is he supposed to answer? "Andy," he says, a little careful, "things… went a little wrong, back there."
"Oh, shoot," he says, "I'm sorry, man, I kinda assumed, when I heard about how the flooding and the animal attacks were in full swing and then just stopped suddenly, that that was when you got rid of the ghost, you know? And seeing you all in one piece… I thought it was over already. Do you need help? I can round up the guys, and we can go-"
"No, Andy," Vance says, "the ghost is gone."
Andy looks at him, confused. "Then what's the problem?"
"Tom," he says, then winces when he sees all the color drain from Andy's face.
Andy waits for barely a second, then breaks into anxious questioning. "Tom? Why? What do you mean? Is he hurt? How bad is it? Did he have to go to the hospital? Where is he?"
Vance wants to cry. God. God. He can't do this. "Andy..."
Andy just looks at him, eyes wild, terrified, and it hasn't even hit him yet. "Vance. Vance. Please. What happened? Does Tom need me? Because if so, we need to go-"
"Tom's gone," he says, and it leaves him in a rush, a whisper, taking with it the last of his energy. He's empty, and somehow, it's still awful. "He's… he's dead, Andy."
Andy looks at him, eyes wide, unfocused, lost. "This isn't funny," he says. "If Tom put you up to this, knock it off right now. Tell him not to ever joke about-"
"Andy," Vance says, then swallows. "Tom wouldn't joke about that. You know that."
"No, he wouldn't, but..." His eyes begin to water, panic settling in, gaze darting across the room as if searching for him, "But… No. No. No, knock it off."
Vance starts crying before Andy does. "I'm sorry, Andy."
--------
Andy is in shock. He freezes in place, mouth hanging open, everything about him completely still except for his eyes, still so damn wide, still searching the place, searching Vance, begging for something, anything. Vance sits him back down on the table, gently, and Andy lets himself be handled back, eyes still not settling on him.
"I'm sorry," Vance says. "I… I promised you that I would take care of him. I tried, but… I'm so sorry."
"How?" he asks, "how could this happen? This isn't… After Redfield, when everyone survived, I just… I didn't think any of us could lose to another monster, I..." He shakes his head, vigorously, desperately. "This was supposed to be over. We were done, we were free, it was supposed to be over, we were all supposed to be safe, it shouldn't..."
"I'm sorry. It all happened so fast, I… If I had been faster, maybe..."
"Well, it's a bit late for that now," Andy snaps, and Vance bites his lip, not recoiling, because he deserves it. Then Andy stops, as if realizing what he had said, and for a second, his eyes seem clear again. He shakes his head. "No. I'm sorry. I… If there's anything I've learnt from everything that happened, it's that we can't point fingers when things get hard." He finally looks up at Vance, shaking, eerily still, nothing like the guy he was just seconds ago. He's wrecked, Vance thinks, and he wants to tear at himself in guilt. "What happened? Did he- did he drown, or… Did the ghost..."
"We were fighting monsters," Vance explains. "There were just… So many of them, and it all happened so fast, I..." he looks away, not daring to look back at the memory, not daring to remember the awful scene. As if he has to. Everytime he closes his eyes, it's back, punishing him. "We got his body," he explains. "Pine Springs is taking the victims to mass graves, but we wanted to give him a proper burial. I thought… You'd want to come."
Andy seems surprised, like that hadn't crossed his mind. "You haven't buried him yet?"
Vance bites his lip. "No. We're doing it tonight. We didn't have the time before, and… Well, I thought you'd want to be there. And I think he'd have wanted his body to be in Westchester, so..." He trails off.
Andy looks at him, hesitant. He bites his lip, looks away, then back at him. "Can I see the body?"
Vance does recoil, this time. He wasn't expecting this question. "I… You won't want to."
"What do you mean, I won't want to? I need to say goodbye to him, I-"
"Andy," he says, as gently as possible, because he deserves Andy's anger, all of it, but he won't let him do that to himself. "You won't want to remember him like that. His body…" He looks at Andy's eyes. He's still furious, livid, shaking, and he's lost, and Vance realizes that he doesn't get it, doesn't understand what Vance is saying, and this might be even worse than having to tell him Tom is dead. "It's torn to pieces, Andy. There's not much for you to see."
Andy freezes, for the second time that day. "Was he- oh, god," he looks at his own shaky hands, somehow even more in shock than before. "Was it… At least, was it quick?"
Vance starts crying again. He opens his mouth to answer. He can't. He chokes on the words, on his guilt, on his uselessness. "I'm so sorry, Andy."
------
Andy throws up. Once, twice. He doesn't insist on looking at the body. Obviously, he can't. Just imagining it- it's too much.
He tries to comfort Vance, because he- he's trying to do better, with his anger, with his impulsiveness, but all he can think about is how much he wants to destroy something, and honestly, the whole conversation is a blur. He punches the wall instead, once he gets home. And throws up. Again and again. Sends his friends a message, letting them know about the funeral. Cries. Punches the wall again. And again, and again, hoping that his hands will start to bleed, that he'll tear himself apart. His mom asks what's got him so angry, and he yells, "Tom is dead!". Her face twists in shock, and he can't look at it. He runs away.
Being back outside is almost worse. Everything- it should be in shambles. The whole town, the whole world should be on fire, fizzling, filled with screams and despair, like Andy is. He's never lived in a world without Tom before, never been away from him his whole life, and it shouldn't look like it's just the same. Everything should be gone, destroyed. And it is, but it doesn't look that way, and Andy wants to tear it all apart until it makes sense, at least.
He hates Westchester now. He hates it. God damn the stupid woods, and the stupid cult, and the fucking Power! God damn Andy for telling Tom about it, for letting him become this sort of- monster hunter, for believing that just because they overcame a ghost once, it would keep happening if they pushed their luck.
This wasn't supposed to happen.
Tom can't be dead. It's impossible.
How can Andy still be standing, if Tom isn't here?
---------
He wanders like that the rest of the day, not noticing the hunger that builds up after going a whole day without eating, not noticing the passersby looking at him worriedly, not noticing the thousands of missed calls from his mom, not noticing anything but this awful despair. He knows the feeling of wanting to claw his chest off intimately well, but it's never been like that before. He wants to carve himself hollow. He wants to scream. He wants to run. And he runs from the all-encompassing nothingness, even though he has nowhere to go.
He goes from angry to empty, and then back to angry, all day long, and the day passes in a blur.
--------
Andy meets up with Vance and two girls from their crew. Their group was pretty small, he realizes. A lot smaller than Andy's was, all those years ago. Three years ago. Forever ago. Another lifetime. Just yesterday.
The cemetery is empty, but there's a grave with a black casket they're standing next to. "I thought all the cemetery crew was helping Pine Springs," he says, like he cares. Honestly, he hadn't thought about the logistics of this at all.
"They are," Vance confirms, serious. "You, uh… You know about Noah, right…?"
Andy nods. "Yeah, we, uh, reintroduced ourselves to him a little after you guys left." It was weird, to say the least. All that anger, all that betrayal, bubbling up again right when they had all started to move on from what had happened, to think that it was over… The urge to scream at him, demand answers… And then seeing all the hurt, and the confusion, and remembering that they had loved Noah, once, most of their lives, and that at the end of the day, the only one who had suffered from his actions was himself.
It wasn't easy to forgive. Not to Andy. Or Stacy. Or Ava. But they had been working on it. Maybe they couldn't forgive, much less forget, but at the same time, they couldn't get rid of that bond, either.
Still… "What does this have to do with… With Tom?" If Noah had anything to do with his death, Andy would kill him all over again. He doesn't care about his freaky powers, he'll die if he has to, but Noah will pay.
"He, uh, helped. Dig the grave and, uh, get a casket. That's how we got everything ready."
Oh. "I… I see," he says. "Is he here?"
"No. I told him you guys were coming, and he said it was better if he left."
"Oh," Andy answers. "I guess that's… Yeah. Still..." he raises his voice a little bit, in the direction of the woods. "Thank you, Noah."
He doesn't see or hear anything, not really, but still, somehow, he can tell that Noah is pleased. He can picture Noah's smile and that fragile little "friendsss..."
He sighs, suddenly exhausted.
Vance seems to notice, god bless his soul. "Are the others coming?", he asks, gently.
"Lily, Lucas, and Ava are," Andy replies. "The rest were out of town, and they… They won't make it."
"I'm sorry."
Andy kicks a pebble. "It's fine," he says. It's the kind of lie that's so absurd that it becomes true. Nothing is fine. It'll never be fine. So it doesn't matter at all, and it ends up being fine.
Vance seems to realize what's going through his head, somehow, because he looks unsure of what to say. Finally, he settles on, "uh, Andy. These are Danni, and Imogen," he says, gesturing to each of them, and Andy musters up enough energy to look at their faces while he does that, at least. Then, his eyes widen for a second, finally taking in what they look like.
"Wait, you're Imogen Wescott?" he says, a little dumbfounded. "When I heard that name, I kinda expected you to be, you know..."
"White and insufferable?" Imogen asks, a little smile directed at him, so gentle he can barely handle it. "Yeah. That's why I'd rather go by Genny, usually."
Danni frowns at her, slightly troubled. "You never told me that."
Imogen's smile turns a little brighter. "Oh, no, not for you, Danni. For you, I'd rather go by 'babe'".
Danni also smiles at her, and they squeeze each other's hands, and the edges of grief seem to turn just a little softer for them both. Andy can tell that things get just a little easier for them, just a little less grim, because they have each other. And he needs to look away, wants to run, because he and Tom… They could've… In a way, they were...
He feels like he's ready to run again. God, he fucked up so bad. What was he supposed to do now, how could he get better when the one thing in the world that always made him feel better was Tom? He lost him, he's gone, it's over, and somehow it hadn't hit quite the way it did at that moment, looking at that connection, that love that showed through grief. He averts his eyes, feeling wild and cornered, and turns back right in time to almost run into Lily - who looks devastated, and reaches out to touch his arm. Which feels crazy, because Andy is raw, and his whole body is bleeding, and rotting away, and who would touch him-
"I'm so sorry, Andy." She says, and Andy finds himself hugging her tight, and he feels like she should wither, die at his touch, suffocate, but she just hugs him back and pats him and Andy cries on her shoulder, and he's never cried in front of her before, much less like this. But he can't stop, he can't do anything, he's so heavy and dizzy and lost-
And Lily is stronger than they give her credit for, because she holds him, this endless weight that is him, even when he shakes and stains her sweater with tears, like it's nothing. She feels so solid, right then, the only solid thing in the world. She's got him, Andy knows, and it's like finally he ran into something he can take shelter in. He takes a deep breath, then another, and holds on for dear life.
"I'm sorry," is the first thing he says, maybe the only thing he knows how to say right now. Maybe this is how Jane felt, in the end - this endless spectre of regret, bigger than everything, than everyone, encompassing her and drowning her until it ate her whole and left her empty, with only the Power and its evil inside her.
He's so tired, but he's not empty, not yet.
He almost wants to be.
"Don't apologize," Lily says, so sad and sympathetic, and it takes Andy a moment to realize what she's even talking about. "I'm really sorry, I..."
It's only then that Andy's eyes focus enough to see Ava and Lucas standing a little after her, their faces twisted with sadness and bodies frozen in place. At times like this, it really is obvious that Lily is the bravest out of all of them, by far. Andy doesn't think he's ever cried in front of any of them, and Lucas and Ava look- completely lost.
Lucas is the first to talk, out of them both. His voice is very soft. "Andy, if there's anything you need..."
Ava interrupts, words leaving her way too fast. "We'll be staying with you tonight." She blinks for a second, frowning at Lucas. "Sorry, I, uh, hadn't realized you were talking." She looks like she just came out of a daze. She probably had been running that in her head for a while. Lucas puts his hand on her shoulder, and Ava runs a head on her neck, embarrassed.
"It's okay," Andy answers, even though her apology wasn't directed at him. "You don't have to, you know, watch over me or..." He trails off.
"We're not leaving you alone," Ava says, resolute. "You know the others couldn't come, but we all agreed that we should be… You know..."
Andy chokes on something he can't quite feel. He looks down at his feet, and he hasn't felt this small in years. "I… Okay."
Ava reaches out to him, hesitant, and gives him a little pat on the shoulder. Lucas starts rubbing his back soothingly, and, very awkwardly, they gravitate into a group hug. Andy can see the nervousness in Ava's eyes, the worry that she's doing this wrong somehow, like a hug is the most complex thing in the world, and he tries to muster up a little smile of encouragement to her, but he's forgotten how to do that. He doesn't know how to do anything, anymore.
Slowly, they separate, and all three of them still keep some sort of touch with Andy - even Ava, with her hand close to his shoulder - like they're trying to anchor him, but he drifts away anyway, lost in whatever it is that's left of himself.
Vance looks down at him for a moment, as if waiting for a signal, but Andy doesn't know for what, so he waits for Vance to figure it out. Finally, he says, "should we start?"
Andy frowns. "Wasn't there some other guy with you? Pork something?"
Vance, Imogen, and Danni all look at each other, uncertain, surprised, for a moment. It's Imogen who speaks up. "He… He left us."
Ava swallows. "Did he also..."
"No," she says, shaking her head, sadly. "He, uh, deserted the group."
"He what?" Someone asks, shocked, almost outraged, and when Andy sees the looks in everyone's faces, he realizes that it was him.
"He couldn't take it," Vance says, face twisted with sadness. "All the fighting, the monsters… He left."
Andy is shaking. Falling apart. About to explode. "When?"
Vance doesn't look at him. "Right before the final battle."
"He abandoned you when you were going up against the evil ghost?"
"He..." Vance begins, then finds that he has nothing else to say. "Yeah."
"How…" Andy begins, lost for words, and then it happens. He explodes. "How dare he!" He screams. "Tom was counting on him, he trusted him, he needed him, and he just left? He should have been there! He should have been there, he should," Andy looks at his own hands, in shock, watching them tremble and go out of focus, like there are tears blocking his vision, and he feels sick, on the verge of death, and he realizes that he's not talking about that guy at all. "He should have been there!" He slips from his own control, falling to his knees, covering his face, feeling shame, shame, shame, hatred, disgust. "He should… I should… Oh God, I just let him go alone..."
"Andy..." Someone says. Maybe Lucas. Maybe Lily. Maybe the Imogen girl. It sounds so sympathetic. He wants to claw at his own skin and hide.
"I should have been there, I shouldn't… I had experience, what was I thinking..."
"Tom didn't want you to go," someone else says, gently. "I was there when you talked, remember? You didn't abandon him. You said you were going to come, and he told you not to."
"Tom.. Tom is not my damn boss," Andy answers, still covering his face, feeling the tears stop spilling and start to drown him from the inside, and god damn T, the least Tom deserves is for him to be able to cry properly- "I-I should have… gone," he chokes, shaking.
The next one who speaks is Ava. "He wouldn't have wanted you to be at risk, Andy."
"I don't care. I don't care. I'm selfish like that, I'd rather it was me. I could have helped him, I could have saved him, even if I had to- to take his place..."
"Andy..." is all Ava says, sounding shaken, devastated.
"Fuck!" He screams, punching the ground beneath him as if trying to punish the earth for taking Tom. "He would have never left me like that, I could always count on Tom, I could always..." he feels his chest constrict, or maybe burst, with all the tears and horror inside of him, like he's cracking from the inside. "Always..." he can't form the words, can't find the air, and he falls in on himself, more, more, more, closing in, suffocating, "always..." he can't breathe. He can't breathe. He tries to draw it in, to keep himself steady, but every time he tries to bring it in, the air escapes from him again, further, abandoning him, and he wheezes, again, again, closing in further, suffocating, oh God, he's going to die…
"It's a panic attack!" Someone screams, then kneels beside him, putting their hands on his shoulders. "Andy. Andy. Focus on me. You need to breathe. Deep lungfuls. Come on. I'll count to four. Keep breathing in. 1… 2..."
"Can't," he wheezes. It's too strong, like there's something… Something constricting his chest, inside and outside, and then he realizes… "Binder." He sits down straighter, no longer closing in on himself, and that awful vulnerability gets even worse, but it's easier to breathe. He follows the person's counts… 1, 2, 3, 4… Then up to five, then to six, then to seven, then eight… Until finally he doesn't need help, and he opens his eyes and contemplates the absolute mess that he is, and Imogen's kind, relieved face just inches from him.
"Good, Andy, you did well… I have these sometimes, too, I know how scary they are, you were so brave..." Imogen keeps on saying, painfully understanding, and he nods, a bit exhausted to explain. He didn't take his binder off all day, didn't remember… And if he wears it for too long, he's more prone to hyperventilating, especially if he's stressed. Tom knew that. Tom would have known what was going on. Tom… Fuck.
"I'm sorry," he says, to everyone, and no one in particular.
"Don't apologize. We're all glad you're okay," Lily says, and he realizes that, somehow, she had also kneeled beside him and brought him into another hug. He hides his face on her shoulder, shaking his head, trying to breathe. Breathing. She pets his head, a little bit, and he can feel some more touch, too - little pats on his shoulder and back, all gentle, not crowding him, like he's some sort of wild animal they're trying to calm down.
God, what a mess.
He holds Lily tighter, wanting to hide from the world. She lets him, because it's the kind of person Lily is. He feels himself drift away, for a while, but Lily's still petting his head and he can't lose himself completely. He shakes his head, wanting to fight it, almost wanting to get away from Lily, but he can't escape the gentleness in her embrace. He still can't cry, but he feels his eyes water and burn anyway, and he shakes his head against Lily's shoulder. He just wants this to be over. Please, he's so exhausted.
His breaths even, despite himself, but Andy keeps shaking, and he keeps shaking his head slightly against Lily. He wants this to end, it has- has to be a nightmare…
"Shh, Andy, don't hold it in, it's okay," Lily says, slowly, sadly, and Andy shakes his head more vigorously. No. He can't be weak right now, it's only going to make it last longer. He needs to end it, can't be done with this until Tom has gotten his goodbyes.
It's the least Andy owes him, now that there's nothing else he can do.
So, he speaks up.
"We should go on," he says, suddenly feeling resolute. It's easier to do this if he has something to focus on. He needs to see this through the end, for Tom. If he thinks only about that...
"Are you sure?" Vance asks, hesitant.
Andy nods, forcing his vision to focus. "He needs to rest."
----------
Everyone's speeches go by in a blur. Vance talks about how good Tom's heart was, how he was willing to drop everything to go help a bunch of strangers, how everyone could always count on him. He cries, and he says he's sorry, and the girls put their arms around him, tell him that he did his best. Imogen brings up how kind he was, and Danni talks about his strength. They really loved him, Andy notices, and feels his heart settle just a little bit. He was loved till the end. Of course he was.
Lucas talks about how supportive Tom was, how he was always uplifting everyone around him and would let Lucas babble on about conservation for hours. Lily brings up how much he believed in her and supported her when she was making her videogames. Ava says that Tom was the only one who ever saw her looking up Westchester's history and cults and just… Sat down with her and helped, understanding that she needed this to feel safe, to feel ready, and sharing that burden of getting ready for a disgrace, just a little bit. Andy never knew that Tom had been joining Ava for research. He could've helped with that, too. He could have done a lot of things, if he had paid more attention.
He's left for last, and a part of him wants to be a coward, to stay silent, but that was never his style.
"When Tom had turned into a zombie," he begins, "Redfi- Jane made him hurt me. And I wasn't worried for myself. I was worried for him. I wanted him back, no matter what it took, no matter what happened to me," he begins, not looking at anyone in particular, because he knows most of them already know this story, but he's not going to- he's not going to deny Tom the chance to know how he felt about him, before he rests. It's the least Andy owes him.
So, he takes a deep breath and goes on, pushing himself into saying something that matters.
"Then our friends showed up, and they said that Tom was still there. That I had to reach out to him. So I tried. I talked to him about our childhood. About how much he had been supporting me… How he was my best friend. He was hesitant, but so… Scared. I didn't know what to do. Tom and I always got each other..." He loses himself a little, shaking his head, purging the thoughts that were keeping him from going on, "And then someone said, 'Andy's hurt. H-he needs help'." He loses focus for a second, and that can't happen. He takes a breath, tries to make himself talk. "And just like that… Tom came back.
"He extended his hand to me, and helped me to my feet, and suddenly there was color in his face again, and for a second he wasn't even confused as to what the hell was going on, he just wanted to make sure I was okay. He came back because I needed him. Because he couldn't bear to hurt me. He was always there for me, and I… I don't think I ever needed him more than right now."
He stops a minute, to look at the faces surrounding him. There's a grief in them that looks almost like… Pity.
And Andy isn't even mad about it. He feels pitiful.
"I'm not the best guy with words," he admits, "so I don't know how to express how much this meant to me, or how much Tom meant to me. No one understood me like him. Tom is… Was… No, is a part of me. Maybe the best part of me, because I loved him more than anything else about myself. I'll miss him for the rest of my life." He looks down at Tom's grave, carved out of anything else to say. "I love you, buddy."
It's not the greatest speech that's ever been given, but it's what he can say, and at least he's done it. He'll be able to do better, later. He'll come back to talk to him again. As many times as he can, for as long as he can. He swears on that.
Andy steps back from the grave, and doesn't look as they slowly fill it, covering the closed casket with dirt. He finally allows himself to let the exhaustion catch up with him, and is overcome by that blissful, blissful emptiness.
---------
He's fully expecting himself to drop asleep as soon as they get to Ava's place. They decided to stay there for the night, because Andy still doesn't want to face his mom, to see that same grief in her, for her to want to talk to him, to tell him that everything would be fine. He can't do that, not today. At least Lucas had enough foresight to warn her of where they are, so she should leave him alone for now. Lucas is very reliable in a crisis, Andy thinks, making a note to himself to thank him properly later.
But he can't sleep. He's too exhausted to even rest. And for some reason, even though he doesn't want to talk, that's exactly what he found himself doing for the past few hours. Vomiting up all sorts of memories and thoughts, ranging from funny moments he had with Tom to all of his regrets, and Andy's always been kind of a stress-talker, but it's never been like this. He feels like he's been skinned alive; there's nothing to hold himself together, to hold anything at all in.
He cries all the tears he didn't think he had left in him anymore, and he curses himself, and the guy who left them in the end, and Noah, and the Power, and the cult, and himself again. He scratches his own skin until Lucas gently takes his hands in his, stopping him from doing more of it. And he talks, through all of that. Talks and talks and talks.
The words make him drift through memories, through states of mind, and he knows he's so damn volatile today, it's like he can't anchor himself to a feeling, but his friends put up with him anyway.
Finally, he starts to settle into this sort of… Slowness, like his mind is clear, or maybe blank, even as he keeps on thinking. And he keeps talking through it, letting all the minor regrets have their turn after he's too damn done to keep dealing with the worst parts.
"I never told him I was in love with him," Andy says, staring at the three empty mattresses in front of him, because it's easier than looking at any of his friends, who are currently sitting right beside him, as he babbles on. "I was going to, you know? After R- Jane. I had almost died, so I figured, you know- yolo, and all that. And then I told myself, 'I'll wait until I'm out of the hospital.' And then I started to think… What if he didn't feel the same way? What if things got weird? What if I end up losing him? And I never told him," he looks at his own feet, "and now I lost him anyway."
They all just look at him. They used up all the "I'm sorry, Andy"s left in them a long time ago, he thinks. There's only so many platitudes you can muster up when you know they're worthless, when you're just repeating yourself.
God bless them for trying, though. They're sticking with him through their own- everyone's inadequacy to deal with what's going on. Andy can't thank them enough for that.
"He knew you loved him," Ava says, serious, and Andy frowns at her, doubtful. "He might not have known you were in love with him, but… He knew how much he meant to you. I'm sure of it."
Andy laughs, humorless, "did you finally get those mind reading powers you wanted?" he says. It falls flat, but they pretend it doesn't, for his sake.
Ava rolls her eyes. "Don't be an ass, Kang," she says. "No. I just… I can tell. Anyone can."
Andy bites his lip, looking away.
She presses on, as gently as she can. "Besides, you also know, don't you? Regardless of anything else… Tom loved you, just as much as you loved him."
"I still love him," Andy says, before he can think about it, and a weird kind of shame creeps up on him - for saying it, for not saying it sooner, for realizing that this… It'll probably never go away, even now that it's completely pointless, that it's just proof of his cowardice.
"That's… Normal," Lily says, fiddling a little with her sweater. "You don't forget someone just like that, just because something happened. I mean, look at me and Britney. It took me years to get over her, and even then, I had to have supernatural forces show me exactly who she was, first."
"She didn't deserve you," Ava says.
"Maybe not. It doesn't matter now," Lily says. "The point is… It's okay to still love him."
Andy hugs his knees. "I don't think anything is okay, right now."
"That's okay, too."
They stay in silence for a moment, and then Lucas speaks up. "I know 'it gets better' stories don't really help at times like these," he says, "so I won't tell you that, but… I know what it's like, to feel like nothing will ever be okay, ever be enough. So… At least you're not alone, in that feeling."
Andy's mouth does something. It's not a smile, but it's what it can do right now. "Yeah. At least it's not like last time," he says. "With Jane. We all fell apart, and… It felt really lonely, even though..." He chokes up. "I had Tom."
Lucas rubs at Andy's shoulder sadly, and Andy shakes his head.
"It's just that he didn't get it, you know? And I couldn't tell him, about what happened," he says, instead of thinking about how much worse this is, no matter how many friends he has by his side right now. "So I… Missed you guys." He finishes, ashamed.
"We get it," Ava says, solemn. "And we're sticking with you, this time around."
"Yeah," Lucas agrees.
"Yeah," Lily adds.
"Okay," Andy answers. "I… Thanks."
They hug him tighter. It's all they have to say.

(The things I did) Just so I could call you mine
Chapter 3/4

Notes: A huge thank you to @writing-as-tracey for giving me key words to use for Heather & Rays project and for all their encouragement for this story!! Keeps my motivation going. If you haven’t yet you should definitely check out their ff!
Tumblr media
“The Senior baseball tournament.”
“Oh.” Heather laughs holding up her hands, “There’s no way you want me on the team.”
“Not a choice, Hill. Everyone has to play.”
Heather shakes her head, “Trust me, Ray, you do not want me.”
His eyes flash and she swallows because damn why does she keep slipping up like that. Making off the wall comments that have double meanings.
“I mean on the team. You don’t want me on the team. I’m horrible at organized sports.”
He leans towards her, “You can’t be that bad. Come on, it’ll be fun. Just. Go out to Andy’s and practice in the batting cages.”
Andy’s is the local putt putt place that is mostly a piece of shit but pretty much the only fun outing that’s close by. Her, Bishop, and Natalie spent most of their middle school years there. Playing putt-putt but for the one time. One time Natalie was crushing on a baseball player and forced the three of them to go to the batting cages. It was an absolute disaster.
“Lets just.” Heather sighs, “get back to work. I only have another hour before I have to pick up my sister.”
Ray drops his chair back to four legs and picks up the book she slides across the table to him. “Just think about it.”
She studies him as his eyes flicker through the book. They’ve had multiple meetings together at the library and sometimes at school. He’s given her rides home, teases with her sister and just recently started calling out to her in the hallways. The first few times she jumped, because in the past it meant he was about to mock her or Bishop.
He’s different and as the due date for their project approaches she finds herself almost sad. Because after they’re done she won’t have a reason to hang out with him. And she finds she actually likes hanging out with Ray Hall.
“Are you serious?” Heather stares at her friend, her best friend, in complete shock. The news she just dropped on them as they sat on the side of main street was shocking. To have known someone for so long and not see such a bombshell coming…. Heather was lost for words.
Bishop just shakes his head, “You know what, I'm not even that surprised.”
Heather looks at him then back at Nat, “Well I am. You’ve always said it’s a stupid game for idiots to play.”
“Nooo.” Nat says with a tilt of her head, “You've always said that. I just agreed.”
Bishop points his drink at Heather, “She’s got you there.”
“I mean…” Heather shakes her head and picks up her drink. Hearing that Natalie plans on playing the Senior game after two Seniors died last year playing it, is just terrifying. She never thought she would have to watch someone she cared about go through it. Although, the closer she grew to Ray, she knew in the back of her mind she would have to watch him. There was no way he wouldn’t play, especially since his brother won just a few years ago.
Nat nudges her with her arm, “You’re not mad, are you?”
“No. Not mad.” Heather meets her friend's dark brown eyes and cringes, “Just …worried.”
Nat laughs, “It’ll be fine.”
“Yeah. I’m sure that’s exactly what Jimmy and Abby thought too.” Bishop says with a bit of a bite to his voice. Both girls look at him with wide eyes and he makes a face, “Too dark?”
“Yeah.”
“Just a bit dude.”
They all laugh and if it’s a little strained, well, no one points it out.
Heather rushes into their established room in the library with an apology on her lips. “Sorry, my boss made me stay later because he wanted to get high with his girlfriend.” She slams herself in a chair and begins to unload her bag.
“Sounds like a douche.”
Heather grunts, “He one hundred percent is a douche.” She slams one book then another down on the table before pulling out her notebook and flipping it open, “But he pays me. Most of the time. So I have to put up with him.”
Ray closes the book he was reading and leans forward, “What do you mean he only pays you most of the time?”
Heather shrugs, “Doesn’t matter. So did you figure out which chapters we should focus on because I was thinking …” Heather stops her ramble as Ray's hands fall on top of her notebook, covering it completely.
“Heather, it’s illegal for them not to pay you.”
Heather sighs, “Well considering there’s absolutely nothing I can do about it.”
“You could quit.”
She laughs harshly at that, “You sound just like Nat and Bishop.” He makes a face at the comparison, “I can’t quit. I need the money. The portion my mom doesn’t take for living in her house, I’m saving for college.” She looks up at him with a desperation for him to understand because her friends never could. They both come from families that love and support them. Families that can afford to send them to college. Families that lift them up instead of dragging them down so deep, it feels like she will never be able to dig herself out no matter how hard she tries
But if anyone could get it, it would be him, “I have to get out of this town.” She says in a quiet voice and there it is. His eyes say it all, complete understanding.
She feels relieved at having someone understand her so completely. She feels like she can actually breath.
He nods after a moment and pulls his arms back, “I was thinking chapters ten and eleven and then the last few chapters.”
Heather nods as she flips through her notebook to those chapters.
“Hey.” Ray steps up to her locker and she glances quickly at him before focusing back on the contents of her locker. She can still see him out of her peripheral as he leans up against her locker door, grinning, “We’re taking the boat out tomorrow afternoon, want to come?”
Heather nudges him with her arm and grabs her locker door to shut it, “Did you finish your character analysis and also who’s we, because I have no interest hanging out with a drug dealer and a pediphile.” She starts to walk to class and he follows. Moving around her to walk backwards so he can face her. And it works for him because no one wants to be the one he trips over so everyone makes a path for them.
Ray chuckles, “I did finish it.” He waves the paper at her and she takes it, her eyes skimming over his handwriting, “And Adam’s not a pediphile.”
“Did he not date that freshman for a few months?” She asks as she tucks the paper in her notebook.
“Well sure but he was still seventeen at the time.”
Heather shakes her head at him silently. He laughs, his dimple flashing and her eyes once again lingering there. He notices. Of course he does, his eyes say it all.
“It’s not just them. Sarah will be there and probably Ruby Anne.” Ray stops causing her to stop or run into his chest. And she kind of wants that. At school he manages to keep his shirts buttoned but any other time she sees him or spends time with him, he usually has his bare chest on full display. And she’s been getting the urge to touch it more and more.
“Come on. It’ll be fun.” He urges.
“Okay.” She finally agrees. Ray shouts loudly and steps around her to head off to his class. He continues celebrating loudly as he leaves her and she shakes her head in embarrassment. Glancing around she finds no one is paying them much attention besides a curious look or two. Thankfully neither of her friends have class down this hallway.
She actually has that Saturday off but she tells her mom she’s working. She can’t use that excuse on her friends because they’ll expect her to meet them on her break so she tells them she has to watch Lily and work on homework. They don’t question her because it happens often enough. She feels bad for lying to them. They both mean well but they’ve been making little comments here and there about how much time she’s been spending with Ray.
She approaches the dock with trepidation. She can see Adam and Sarah already on the boat. Ray is messing with a fishing pole off to the side. He looks good in low riding swimming trunks and a sleeveless button up. Of course it’s unbuttoned. Adam gives a soft whistle and nods to her when Ray glances at him. Ray turns to her, the smile on his face wide and genuine. He pushes his sunglasses on top of his head and her heart pounds at the look on his face.
“You came.” And he sounds genuinely surprised.
“I said I would.” She smiles back at him and they stand there for a long moment.
Tyler pushes past them, “Let's go bitches.”
Ruby Anne follows behind him and smiles apologetically at Heather. Her eyes find Rays again and he nods his head to the boat.
They’re last on the boat after Ray unties it from the dock and other than the captain's chair there’s nowhere for Heather to sit. Ray fixes that by pulling her onto his leg once he sits to drive the boat. She looks over his shoulder at him.
“Is this really necessary?”
He winks at her, keeping his eyes on the water but for that small glance, “Unless you prefer the floor?”
Heather glances over her shoulder. Sarah smiles at her as she lounges back in her seat, a can of beer already open in her hand. Tyler and Adam are passing a joint back and forth. Ruby Anne is sunbathing in her seat.
They're going pretty fast and as Ray turns the boat around a corner she falls more into his lap. She tries to move back to just perching on his knee but he maneuvers his arms around her waist to steer. After a moment of hesitation, Heather relaxes against his bare chest, her head resting just below his chin. He nudges her slightly with his nose and she glances up at him.
“Are you smelling me?”
He laughs out loud and she smiles at how much it thrills her to make him laugh. He presses his nose against her hair again and takes an exaggerated deep breath.
“Smells like peppermint.”
She doesn’t respond. Just enjoys being in his arms, letting herself relax for once where it concerns Ray. No one here is going to tell her it’s wrong or how horrible he is. Or how stupid she’s being. She can just enjoy the moment.
And she does. It takes them another twenty minutes before they get to where they’re going. Ray tells her it’s his favorite fishing spot. The others jump out and make their way to a floating dock where they continue their activities of sunbathing, smoking and drinking. Ray waves them off when they ask if they’re coming.
They spend the entire day out there on the water, not returning until twilight. Heather knows she’ll be red from playing in the water with Ray, to sunbathing on the dock with Sarah and Ruby Anne. She even had a semi deep conversation with Tyler about how honeybees play an important part in their ecosystem and how without them we wouldn’t have coffee or avocados or even medications. Heather's mind is blown with how much knowledge Tyler seems to have on this one subject but Ruby Anne informs her that when he’s high, Tyler likes to watch nature documentaries. They all laugh so hard at him, he storms off a huff.
Ray walks her to her car. The others already went on their way as she helped him unload the boat.
“Thanks for…” she turns and is left speechless as he his eyes meet hers. It’s dark out, hard to see much but his eyes are filled with want. For her. He takes one step, then another, crowding her smaller body back against the truck. And she thinks this is it. This is when he’s going to kiss her. And she was going to let him.
She whispers his name as her legs fall open, giving him room to press against her. She feels the hardness of him all over. He brings his hands up but instead of touching her like she expects. Like she wants, he brackets her head between them as he presses them against his truck. His head tilts down and she lets out a long breath as he drags his nose up her neck and to her ear. His breath is hot as he whispers in her ear, “You’re so far from cute, Heather Nill. I could absolutely devour you with how fuckin sexy you’ve looked all day. I’ve been hard since the moment you appeared on my dock.” And he proves this by grinding himself in the warm space between her legs. Heather's head falls back against the truck with a groan. She curls her hands with want. She wants to fill them with him. To touch him all over, starting with a handful of his hair and ending with a handful of his ….
Ray's nose is back to dragging over her neck and he nips at her pulse causing her to jump. She reaches for him, her hands spreading over his bare back as she pulls him in. He lifts his head, his lips a breath from hers.
Her phone goes off and it’s obnoxious enough that it pulls them both out of their lust haze. Ray pulls his body away from her as she reaches in her pocket to pull it out. It’s her neighbor and she knows she has to answer. It’s never good when she calls.
Glancing at Ray she flashes her phone at him, “I have to…” he just nods and she steps away from him as she presses the accept button.
As she suspected, Bo and her mom are at it again and Lily needs her. She quickly explains to Ray who accepts it with more understanding than she expects. Her friends aren’t usually so understanding but then again they have perfect families that never have drama. Ray on the other hand…
Ray sends her off with a tuck of hair behind her ear and a soft smile she’s never seen him give another. Her thoughts are on getting to her sister but her body is still aflame with desire as she speeds to the trailer park. And after she gets Lily settled in bed, the house now quiet with Bo gone and her mom passed out, Heather lies in her bed thinking of that moment out by his truck and how she knows without a doubt she would have let Ray take her to his bed if they hadn’t been interrupted. And she wonders if that’s a good thing or not.
Heather is waiting for Bishop to finish switching books in his backpack at his locker when Natalie runs up to them and grabs Heather's arm, squeezing tightly.
“Ow Nat.” Heather attempts to pull her arm from her friend's grip but the taller girl refuses to let go.
“You went on a date with Ray Hall?” Natalie practically shouts.
Heather shushes her as she glances around. Bishop looks up from his backpack, frozen. They stare at one another for a long moment before he says one word through gritted teeth, “Well?”
“I…”
Bishop slams the door to his locker so loudly, if people weren’t looking at them before, they sure were now. Natalie seems to notice this as well and pulls them into a dark empty classroom, closing the door behind them.
“Ruby Anne is going around saying you and Ray hooked up this weekend.”
“We didn’t hook up.”
“That you spent the day with them out on his boat. But that couldn’t be true, right? Because you told us,” Natalie points between her and Bishop, “That you couldn’t hang out because you were watching your sister all day.”
Heather presses the heels of her hands to her eyes and then runs them through her hair, “Okay. I lied.”
“You lied?” Bishop says.
Heather avoids meeting his eyes, instead choosing to look over his shoulder into the dark corner of the classroom, “Look, I just didn’t want you guys to give me shit about hanging out with Ray.”
“We don’t give you shit.” Natalie tries to protest.
“You actually do. Even when it’s just to work on the project, you give me shit. I’m so..” Heather takes a deep breath and lets it out, “I’m so sick of feeling guilty for wanting to spend time with someone.”
“Not just someone.” Bishop says through clenched teeth, “But Ray Hall.”
Heather tilts her head back as she breathes in deeply through her nose. Here it is.
“Ray Fucking Hall.”
“Okay, Bishop. I get it. You hate him.” She runs her hands through her hair again but says the next words without hesitation, “But I don’t.”
Bishop blanches at her words and she looks at Natalie who wrinkles her nose at her.
“Heather, you know what he is. You know.” Bishop says with so much heat. Heather just stares down at her feet as Bishop continues his rant. She knows he’s been building this up ever since she was partnered with Ray. She thinks maybe if she lets him have his say then he’ll just back off. Because between him and Ray and everyone else she feels so confused. “All he is and all he’ll ever be is a Meth Row idiot, heading down the same path as his father and brother. You have to see that. You have to know that after all these years.”
“Okay Bishop, that’s enough.” Natalie finally steps in. His eyes flash to her then back to Heather. Without another word he turns on his heel and storms away.
“He’s an idiot.” Natalie says.
“He is.” She agrees.
Natalie wraps her arm around Heather and guides her back out of the classroom, “But you know it’s because he’s in love with you.”
Heather tilts her head back with a groan, “He is not in love with me, Nat.”
Natalie just gives her a look. The look, “If you say so girl.”
After the confrontation, Heather keeps to herself. She doesn’t see either of her friends the rest of the day. She attempts to smile at Ray in class but he just turns in his seat to talk to Adam. She’s too distracted to think anything of it and slides into her seat silently. It’s the week before Spring Break which means their presentations are all week. Their day to present is on Thursday and so Heather sits through the week watching the other presentations. Bishop isn’t talking to her at all and Nat is being distant. She spends her days after school working and keeping Lily away from their trailer as much as possible. The fallouts between her mom and Bo usually last longer than a day or two and it’s always safer to keep their distance.
But then Thursday comes and Ray is nowhere to be seen. She sits in class as the bell rings and picks at her nails. Mrs. Plaza calls her up to the front, “It looks like your partner isn’t going to show. Are you comfortable doing the presentation on your own?”
“I am. But he’ll show.”
Mrs. Plaza looks at her with sympathy, “I’ll put you and Ray last on the list.” She reaches out a hand and places it on Heathers, a comforting touch, “But, Honey, I wouldn’t count on him showing up.”
Heather smiles, “He’ll be here.” And though she sounds confident, with each minute that ticks by, her confidence falters.
Finally, there’s no time left and it’s their turn to present.
He doesn’t show.

Part 1, Part 2
“That’s good,” Lily says. “I’m glad you have a plan. That’s great. But, uh. Can we get out of here?”
Sam blinks once, then nods. “Yeah. Yeah, let’s do it. I know you guys wanna go home, but I’m gonna recommend we go to Kansas. There’s a psychic we know there, and she might have some answers for us. And then maybe we can plan what comes next.”
“Whoa there,” Bobby says. “Let’s get you all back and checked out before anyone goes anywhere. And then maybe you can tell us what in the good goddam hell happened here.”
“Right,” Sam says, thoughts whirling. “No, you’re right. Okay,” He looks towards a quietly-sobbing Ava, still in Andy’s arms. “Can we…can we go back to your place, regroup, and then plan out what to do going forward? I’ll explain everything when we’re there.”
“I offered, didn’t I?” Bobby says. “We should probably take a couple trips, though. Might be too many of you to all fit in the car together.”
Dean, silent until now, jumps in. “Yeah. There’s no way you’ll all fit in the car. No way.”
“Oh my God, Dean,” Sam says, and Dean gives him a look. He whirls around and begins to trudge through the town, presumably leading the way back to the car. Sam looks back out to the group, does a final head count, then gives a small nod, which gets them moving to follow Dean out of Cold Oak and into their new reality.
A few minutes of walking later, Jake lets out a hearty. “Son of a bitch!”
“What?” Sam asks, turning back around, and the whole group freezes in simultaneous terror. He sees Dean’s hand go right to his gun.
“How am I gonna explain this to the fucking US military?” Jake says, and after a beat of silence Sam can’t help let out a laugh.
- Somehow, they’re able to finagle everybody back to Bobby’s with no major incident. Dean insists on driving the car and insists that Sam stay with him on every trip (because you’re the one they trust, Dean says, and they both pretend to believe that’s the reason for it), so they take Bobby and Lily back first, then come back for Jake, Andy, and Ava.
By the time they get everybody back, the sun’s right in the middle of the sky, and everyone’s lit up in high definition. Sam can see the exhaustion that overtakes their faces and sinks into their eyes, and Dean and Bobby in particular look ready to collapse as they barely slept at all the previous night. After their basic rundown of the day’s events, Bobby goes to take a nap and leaves the rest of them to it. Dean refuses to do the same.
“Okay,” Sam says, arms crossed, leaning against a bookshelf. The group are scattered around the library, sitting on chairs, armrests, tables. Lily is huddled in a corner, far away. “So. I think it’s clear at this point that one, we’re the only ones left now and two, whatever it is that was going on, I don’t think it’s over.”
“But Azazel’s dead,” Jake says. Ava, slumped over on a sofa, reacts with a choked sound.
“He is,” Sam says, casting a glance at her. “But the things he was saying…I don’t know. It didn’t feel over. The thing with the blood? The powers?? We still don’t understand what he wanted from us and I doubt he was the only one involved.”
The silence is palpable. Dean shifts to his right. “Can you, uh, explain the blood thing?”
Sam’s eyes fix to the floor. He doesn’t want to see this. “Azazel said something like...he fed us his blood as kids. I think...I think that’s got something to do with our powers. And...and he said...”
Andy pipes up. “He said some of our parents had something to do with it.”
“No,” Dean says, instantly. It’s enough for Sam’s head to snap right back up. “That’s impossible. Demons lie. We know this.”
“He wasn’t lying.”
All eyes turn to Ava. She’s still leaning on the sofa, eyes blank, voice monotone. “The blood...it does something. They’ve been feeding me for months. It makes you strong. Really strong.”
Dean shakes his head. “No. It can’t...okay, so what if that part’s true? The other part can’t be. He was trying to confuse you guys, to make you turn against each other. You can’t let it get to you.”
It’s not us it’s getting to. Sam levers himself up for the bookshelf, gaining everyone’s attention. “I don’t think we can do anything more about this right now,” He says. “But we can go to Kansas tomorrow. I think we might be able to figure things out with our friend Missouri there. For now,” he gestures towards the group. “Let’s rest up so we can be ready for what’s coming.”
-
They leave at dawn. Bobby lends them a second car, which Lily volunteers to drive. They walk out together, breath fogging up in the frosty morning. Dean picks up the pace, walks ahead to get the Impala started and the heat up, when Sam feels a tug on his arm and looks back to see Jake.
“I’m staying here,” He says.
Sam blinks. “What?”
“I’m staying here,” Jake repeats, more firmly. “I’ve already talked it through with Bobby. I just...my situation isn’t like the rest of you. I’m supposed to be in Afghanistan, and I can’t get back without being noticed. I can’t go see my family, or the government will come to collect real quick. I gotta lay low, let them think I’m MIA, figure out how to get around it. But...I can’t go with you. I’m sorry.”
Sam looks at Bobby, beyond Jake’s shoulder. He nods, and Sam looks back at Jake, making sure to keep eye contact. “I get it,” He says. “It’s...not easy. And you’re free to do what you want. I’ll keep you posted on what we find.”
Jake lets go of Sam’s arm, smiles. “Thank you.”
Sam nods, says another goodbye, then walks over to where Dean is waiting in the Impala
-
“It’s bullshit, you know that right?” Dean asks.
Sam knew this was coming, has been ever since they reunited in Cold Oak and Dean’s been twitching with a nervous energy. Since Jake opted to stay behind, they’re alone in the car, and they haven’t been alone since coming back to Bobby’s the day before.
“What is?” Sam asks, trying to get Dean to let it out. He clearly hadn’t been comfortable with so many extra people, so many practical strangers (to Dean, at least).
“All of—” Dean waves an arm. “All of the blood thing. The mom knowing thing. All of that. Azazel was just trying to mess with you. Trying to get you to kill each other. But that’s over now, okay? It’s over. There’s a new thing now, sure, but this part is done. You don’t need to think about this anymore.”
Sam nods. Waits.
Dean fidgets nervously, eyes darting around the road. Then he continues. “I don’t know what’s going on here, but nothing has changed, okay? Nothing. Sure, you’ve got some powers and you might have some demonic sons of bitches after you. So what else is new? We just keep going, we keep hunting, like we always do. This is just another challenge, okay?”
“Okay,” Sam says. Dean takes a deep breath, lets it out in a long, drawn-out sigh.
“I’m—”Dean says, quiet, choked off. “I’m just glad you made it outta there. That’s what was worrying us, right? The disappearing act? But that’s done now. I mean, not to say you probably wouldn’t have won, but...never mind. That’s over with. Just...let’s try not to pull anything like that anymore, okay? Because, you know, if anything...if anything ever happens to you, I...”
“Dean,” Sam says, because letting it out is one thing, but Dean’s breathing is speeding up and Sam can see all the worry and fear and tension of the past couple years is catching up to him all at once. “I know, Dean. It’s okay. I made it out. I mean, how couldn’t I? I had a pretty good teacher.”
Dean snorts, and they both ignore the hitch to his voice. “You’re damn right,” He says, and it only wavers slightly. “And don’t you forget it, you hear me?”
-
Missouri throws open the door the instant Dean raises a hand to knock.
“It’s about time,” She says, peering beyond him to see Lily, Andy, and Ava, who still hovers in the background. “Come in, all of you!”
Dean turns to Sam, raises his eyebrows, then follow Missouri through the door. Sam beckons the rest of them in, then follows. He walks into a living room set up for visitors, with a pot of coffee and cups waiting on the table. The smoke curling out from the rim suggests it’s been freshly made.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” Missouri says, directing them to sit on her array of sofas. “Traffic hold you up? It’s okay dear,” she says, an aside to Lily. “You don’t have to feel uncomfortable. Sit wherever you like, I won’t take it personally. But you should know that you deserve the love of humanity just as much as anybody else does.”
Sam had already warned them of her mind-reading, so she’s unfazed. Lily nods and retreats to a chair a little farther away from the rest of the group, which arranges itself in a tighter circle around the coffee table. They all look ready, if tense, except for Ava, whose eyes are still somewhat perpetually blank. Missouri throws her a concerned look, but doesn’t comment.
“So,” She says, joining them on a spot next to Dean. “You’re here for answers. Between you and my other contacts, I think I have an idea of what might be going on here. So, sit. Get some coffee. Let me explain it, okay?”
She waits for the chorus of nods, and then she begins:
“As far as I can tell,” She says, leaning back on the sofa. “There’s been some kind of...demonic movement. Almost exactly twenty three years back, there was a rise in demon deals amongst families with a history of psychic abilities. And, if your information is correct, Azazel used those deals to pay you kids a visit, and tie your abilities to him by feeding you his blood. This competition you were forced into seems to me a way to use one of you for something.”
Sam’s mouth is dry, but he manages to croak out “Do you know what for?”
“I’m not sure,” Missouri says. “But I have a few guesses. Either for ritual reasons—increasing their strength, or increasing their numbers—or, and I believe this is more likely, to add to the ranks of Hell. Demons are just corrupted humans, after all. I believe they want somebody with more human connections in their ranks, to grow stronger. Just because Azazel is dead doesn’t mean this is over, so stay weary, children. Strength in numbers. Watch out for each other and be each other’s support. Azazel’s role has ended, but this might mean others are stepping in to take over.”
“What others?” Lily breathes from her corner.
“I’m not sure,” Missouri says. “And at the moment, things are more or less the same. But that could change at any moment. You all know who you are, and they will try to tempt you any way they can. The most important thing to do is to resist it.”
Dean’s been growing steadily more tense throughout the conversation, and he can’t seem to keep it in any longer. “So, what does that mean? We, they,” he gestures around the room. “Gotta just wait and see what happens next? How they try to pick whoever it is they want to be Hell’s child star or whatever? That’s not much beyond what we were doing anyway.”
“Maybe so,” Missouri says, and she looks at Dean with a sadness in her eyes. “But you’re aware now that something is coming. And the nature of that something, more or less. So, protect against demons, stay with your own, and grow into your powers your own way. From what I saw, they were the key in stopping Azazel long enough to defeat him. Working together, I think you could be ready for something even stronger in the future.”
“That’s not true.”
All eyes in the room snap to Ava, who shakes her head. “There’s only one way to get stronger. Only one. And it’s the blood. Without the blood, we can’t win.”
Missouri’s eyes widen and she leaps up, but it’s too late. Ava suddenly stiffens, eyes wide, and collapses off the couch and onto the floor.
And then she begins to seize
-
It’s the blood, Missouri tells them. It’s addictive, it’s powerful, and it can destroy your body and soul. Sam can’t imagine the months Ava was trapped in the dark, left only with the blood to make her feel strong. He can’t imagine it.
The visit is cut short, and Missouri insists that Ava stay with her while they try to curb the symptoms of her addiction together. She tells them she’ll keep in touch, and makes them promise to do the same. They depart Missouri’s somberly, and Sam instructs Andy and Lily to just head on home. “Try to stay together, if you can,” He tells them. “We shouldn’t be alone right now. Keep in touch every day, okay? Stay warded against demons. We’ll keep searching and update you on what we find.”
Andy turns to Lily. “Stay at mine?”
She nods, and Sam gives Andy a grateful smile. Lily’s family situation is best left unmentioned. “Okay,” Sam says, and his heart feels heavy. He realizes with a pang he doesn’t want to leave them, any of them. “We should hit the road. Stay safe guys, please. We’ll come up with a plan and regroup soon, okay?”
He nods at them with a final smile and makes himself walk away, back to Dean, waiting in the car. As he slides into the passenger seat, Dean turns the keys with a grin.
“Back on the road again?” He asks, giddiness evident in his voice. Sam gives him a tight-lipped smile and nods.
-
Two weeks later, Sam bolts up in bed, heart racing, breathing hard. Dean, flipping through a newspaper in the next bed over, startles so hard he rolls over and onto the floor.
“What the fuck?!” Dean says, popping back up and rummaging under his pillow for his gun. “What is it? Sam?”
Sam’s heart hammers, his breath coming out in small gasps. “Something’s happened,” He says, and his phone begins to buzz. “Something bad.”
“What?” Dean asks.
“I don’t know,” Sam says, scrambling for his phone. He looks at the caller ID: Andy.
-
They find out what soon enough.
Sam is carrying his to-go bag, deep in thought as he walks down an empty street somewhere in Wisconsin. They’d all had the feeling the same night, four days ago, and that just can’t be a coincidence. It can’t be.
A chill running down his spine forces the thought out of his head and he startles upwards just in time to see a figure (demon) swing a blade his direction. He stumbles backwards, reaches towards his gun (useless), and his ready to pull it out when a second chill joins the first and a knife emerges from the demon’s chest from the back. It shrieks, eyes burning, and collapses, revealing a blonde woman who sheaths her knife back. “You’re welcome,” She says, and Sam points his gun at her instead.
“Whoa!” She says, raising her hands. “Calm down. That’s no way to treat somebody who just saved your life.”
“You’re a demon,” Sam responds, not wavering.
“Um, did you miss the part where I saved your life?” She responds. “I could’ve let him kill you, you know. Sure, I’m a demon, but I’m not really into the demon party line, if you will. I’m here to warn you, okay? You just have to listen.”
Sam inclines his head, heart racing. “Talk.”
“First of all, hi,” She waves. “Ruby. I already know who you are, incidentally. They wanted to use one of you to open the gates to Hell, and don’t you know, they managed to do it anyway. But that’s not the main goal. There’s something else at play, something way bigger.”
“And what’s that?”
“It’s the Apocalypse,” She says, and Sam just about stops breathing. “That’s what they want. There’s these...seals that have to be broken. Sixty six of them. The first one’s gone. If the rest are broken, Lucifer’s released and the Apocalypse begins.”
Sam swallows hard. “Why should I believe you?”
“Believe it or not,” she says. “The apocalypse is bad for business. Where does the end of the world leave demonkind? Nowhere. And I like my life the way it is, especially since I’m out of Hell now. So. Think on that for a little. I’ll see you again later, and you can give me an answer then.”
Sam doesn’t move, barely blinks until Ruby backs away until she’s out of sight, and he slowly puts down his gun and shakes off his stiffness. Heart hammering, he turns and runs all the way back to the motel, fingers trembling as he pushes the key in the lock and opens the door.
Dean’s sitting on his bed, staring off into space, and as he turns to look at Sam he can see that his face is ghostly pale.
“Dean,” Sam gasps. “I was just...I met a demon. I think you should hear what she told me.”
“Um,” Dean says. “Okay. Because, uh, I think I’ve just been...visited. By...by an angel.”
Sam stares at him, open-mouthed.
-
As it turns out, both Ruby and Castiel (Castiel!!! An angel!!! They’re real!!!) has visited to deliver the same information to them: an apocalypse is coming, the seals are breaking, and it’s on them to stop it all from happening.
It’s all too much, but there’s one salient fact that seems to be sticking out in Sam’s brain.
“An angel,” He breathes, and Dean shoots him a look.
“So you’ve said,” he says, terse. “Multiple times. Look, Sam. I don’t wanna kill your buzz, but: shouldn’t apocalypse be the thing on your mind right now?”
“I know,” Sam says. “But...Dean! If angels are real, then God’s gotta be real too. And they’re helping us! They’re on our side! We’re gonna win, dude. We have to!”
Dean frowns. “I don’t know, dude,” He says, cautious. “Castiel implies that they’re really struggling right now. If God was around, I don’t think they would be. He sounded really serious. I think..this is bad. This is really bad.”
Sam nods, but the words are kinda getting lost somewhere in between his ears and his brain. “Doesn’t this give you hope, though?” He says. “I mean, angels, dude! Like...there’s good out there, you know?”
Dean’s face softens fractionally. “I don’t know,” He says. “Dude was kind of a dick.”
“Do you think I’ll get to meet him?” Sam asks, and Dean just sighs.
-
“Angels, huh?” Andy says.
Sam clothes the phone tighter to his ear. “Can you believe it?” He says.
“That’s wild,” Andy says, and Sam is surprised into a laugh. “But I guess it makes sense. I mean, if demons are real then angels have to be too, right?”
“Yeah,” Sam says, smiling. “You’re right.”
“Shame about the apocalypse thing though,” and Andy’s voice takes a more somber tone. “Guess this is what Missouri was talking about, huh?”
Sam tried to inject confidence into his voice. “I know,” He says. “But don’t worry. Dean and I are on it. We’re gonna figure this out and I’ll keep you updated on how it’s going.”
“I know,” Andy says. There’s a brief silence, then “I’m going to Missouri’s to see Ava this weekend. She’s says she’s doing better now, so maybe she’ll actually agree to see me this time.”
Sam swallows the guilt he feels welling up in his mouth. “Thanks for doing that,” He says. “I try to call but...you know. She almost never wants to talk. Maybe if I actually made an effort to go see her...”
“Hey,” Andy says, cutting him off. “Don’t worry about it. We all know you’re out there fighting the good fight, taking care of the big picture for us. I’ve got this part. It’s the least I can do. Since, you know, I’m your number two or whatever.”
Sam’s surprised into a laugh. “Thank you.” He says, blinking away the wetness in his eyes.
“Any time, chief,” Andy responds.
-
Sam feels the chill just as he hears “So, you got an answer yet?”
He whirls around in the dark, automatically lifting his gun right up to Ruby’s face.
“Again?” she asks, lifting her hands up. “You sure know how to make a girl feel welcome, Sam.”
Dean runs up from behind him, gun pulled up too. “Who is this?” He asks Sam.
“Ruby,” Sam says, then slowly starts to lower his weapon to Dean’s hiss of disbelief. “What do you want?”
“To hear your answer,” She says, eyeing Dean’s raised weapon. “Do you want my help in stopping this or not?”
“We got that covered, thanks,” Dean says, unmoving. Sam glances at Ruby, then looks back at his brother.
“Dean,” He begins, and Dean shakes his head.
“No,” He says. “Are you crazy? This is a demon! And weren’t you just saying that having the angels helping us out was a clear win anyway?”
Ruby’s face drains of color. “Angels?” She asks.
Sam ignores her. “She saved my life,” He says. “She didn’t have to. And she hasn’t tried to hurt us. Shouldn’t we at least listen to what she has to say?”
Dean shrugs. He doesn’t lower the gun. “Go ahead,” He tells her. “Talk.”
“Well,” she says, clearly shaken by the mention of angels. “I just wanted to offer my help, whenever you need it. There’s a demon out there named Lilith, and she’s the one taking charge of breaking the seals. You get her, you stop the apocalypse.”
Deans nods. “Thank you for the information,” he says, barely disguising his sarcasm.
“I’ll prove it,” Ruby says. “I’ll prove that I’m serious about helping you. I’ll let you have it, whenever you need it,” She says, looking at Sam.
“Have what?” Sam asks.
“My blood,” Ruby responds. Sam glances at Dean and watches his face turn white, then red.
“Leave,” He tells her, furious, and she backs away, stil looking at Sam.
“I’ll call you,” she says, before slinking away back into the night.
-
It takes a bit longer for Sam to finally meet Castiel.
He walks into the motel room one day, books under his arm and stress lining his face when he sees that Dean’s not alone. There’s a man in there, a man with dark hair and a light tan coat. Dean’s slightly annoyed expression and the man’s description means Sam knows instantly who he is.
“Hi,” Sam breathes as they both turn to look at him. He moves into the room, slowly depositing the books on the motel table.
Dean clears his throat. “Sam, this is Cas. The angel.”
“Hi,” Sam says again, moving closer, heart hammering. “Dean’s told me about you. It’s....it’s such a honor to meet you, really. I...thank you.” And Sam doesn’t know what he’s thanking him for so he reaches out a hand instead, hoping it’ll distract from his babbling.
Castiel looks at him, and then down at his hand, and after a beat reaches out and grabs it.
“I’ve heard of you as well,” He says. “You have done quite well at resisting the abomination in your nature. Well done.”
Sam feels his smile vanish. Castiel’s hand curls around his own, holding gently, before releasing him.
“Don’t be an asshole,” Dean says, and Sam feels his eyes widen in fear and shock even through the blood thundering in his ears. “Sam’s a good person and you damn know it. So, do you have anything to help us out here?”
“More seals have been broken,” Castiel says, turning his attention to Dean. “The rate to which they’re happening is truly alarming. We’re trying to locate Lilith, but she’s been in hiding up until now. However, I’m here for a very different reason. A warning.”
Dean shakes his head. “Oh god. Okay. What is it now?”
Castiel directs his gaze back to Sam, and he feels himself tense. “We know you have been in contact with the demon Ruby,” He says. “We know that she’s been offering you blood, and that you have informed the other demon-tainted of this. You must stop immediately.”
Sam’s breath catches. He sees Dean’s stare: disbelieving, accusing. “I never take the blood,” He says weakly. “I’m just getting information from her, that’s all. She’s been right about all the hunts she’s sent our way so far. And the others...I’m just keeping them updated. That’s all.”
“What?” Dean says, but Castiel interrupts him.
“Maybe so,” He says. “But this path you walk is a dangerous one. If you align yourself with demons, you may escalate into taking in their blood. The blood will change you, make you less connected to humanity. And if you do so, we will have to stop you. Do you understand?”
“Yes,” Sam breathes out, barely able to get the words out. Cas nods, and then vanishes without another word.
Dean rounds on him instantly. “What the hell?” He says. “You didn’t tell me she was still offering you blood! And you’re telling the others this, and not me? I told you, I told you that she’s not trustworthy. From now on, we’re not getting information from Ruby, and that’s final.”
“But...we’re saving lives,” Sam protests weakly.
“Dude! You heard what the angel told you!” Dean says, running a hand through his hair. “It’s dangerous! And she’s a demon! We’ll find our own resources, non-demonic ones. Block her number.”
Sam breathes out, feels tears prick at his eyes. “I’ve always...I’ve always prayed,” he says, and tries to shut the lid on the jealousy that bubbles in his stomach.
-
“What’s on your mind?” Lily asks.
Sam closes his eyes, leans his head back against the passenger seat. Dean’s gone to pick up an artifact and Sam knows he’ll be flirting with the cute antique shop assistant for a while. “We were warned off listening to Ruby,” He says. “By the angel. Said if we try the blood thing, it’ll decrease our humanity.”
“Yikes,” Lily says, and Sam can hear her suspicion over the phone. “So, that’s it, then? We have to look for a new contact?”
“Yeah,” Sam says, then cuts himself off. Lily catches him, though.
“You’re not doing it, are you?” She asks. Sam stays silent.
“Are you,” She continues, weary. “Are you considering...the blood thing?”
Sam opens his mouth, closes it again.
Lily gets it right away. “Sam,” She says, hesitant. “Look. I just wanna say, it’s your decision to make. The blood thing...it’s our sacrifice to make, if that’s what we wanna do. If you feel it’s necessary for the sake of stopping the apocalypse, then that’s up to you. But...we’re with you. All of us. Whatever choice you make, we’ll back it up.”
Sam’s eyes burn. “Thank you,” He says. Dean emerges from the store, lifting the artifact Sam’s way and pumping out his fist in victory.
“Wait ‘til you hear what Jake and Bobby are working on,” she says, and Sam sits back and lets her talk.
-
“Are you serious?” Dean asks.
Sam’s fingers tap on the floor of the abandoned warehouse, where he sits cross-legged. He risks a glance at Ruby, who stares at him in amusement. “Yeah,” He says. “Look. Don’t you think this is important? That we have to figure out how to do this?”
“Sam, this is crazy,” Dean says, gesturing at the figure tied up in the chair, in the middle of the devil’s trap. “It’s insane, what you’re doing. Okay, so you’re not drinking the blood. But you’re trusting her,” and here he points at Ruby. “When you were explicitly told not to. And, what, you’re okay with kidnapping random demons to practice on? Think about this, man!”
Sam nods. “I know,” He says. “Trust me. I know. But, look. This way, we can save this person,” He points to the struggling figure. “And get rid of the demon in them without having to resort to demon blood. And this way we can train up so that we can take on Lilith and exorcise her that way. It’s weird, I know. But I think it’s a win/win, and we don’t need to resort to anything desperate to stop the apocalypse or to save people.”
“And what about her?” Dean points at Ruby, who just raises her eyebrows at him. “Even if you’re not technically breaking any angel rules, you’re still allying with her. And you know what Cas said about that.”
“All she did was find us a possessed person,” Sam says. “We’re not working together.”
Dean closes his eyes, shakes his head. “And the others?” He asks. “You’re really making them drive all the way here to do this?”
“They wanted to,” Sam says. “It was their decision. Well, except for Ava, she’s not coming. But I don’t blame her and honestly, I think it’s for the best. It’s our best chance, man. We have nothing else. Except, well...the demon blood. And that’s going to be a definite no from you.”
Dean shakes his head again. “I don’t...” he says. “I don’t like this. I don’t think I can be a part of this.”
Sam nods, keeping his gaze on the devil’s trap that holds the demon. “I understand,” He says quietly, and they wait until they hear the sound of the approaching car.
-
And then, Samhain happens.
They’re alone, and he’s apparently one of the seals. But he’s about to kill Dean and Sam can’t let that happen, he can’t, so he reaches inward and pushes and pushes and pushes until his head is screaming and so is Samhain and he’s never pushed this hard before. Sam blacks out before he knows what happens and wakes up in a hospital bed to see Dean sitting next to him.
“Your brain nearly fried,” Dean croaks. “It was bad. Touch and go, for a while. You took on too much.”
Sam screws up his eyes. His head is killing him. “I did it?” He whispers.
“Yeah,” Dean says, letting out a chortle. “You smoked him, all by yourself. But it almost killed you. And...” He pauses. “And you’re not gonna stop, are you? Not if you can save the hosts. Even if it ends up killing you.”
Sam struggles to keep his eyes open. “Dean...”
“Maybe...” Dean chokes out the words now. “If the blood makes you...if it keeps you alive. Maybe you can...I’ll keep you in check. I’ll keep you human. I’ll save you, after. But...but if it’ll help you survive, then...”
Sam gathers all the energy he has and reaches out, grabbing Dean’s hand in a weak grasp. “No,” he rasps, and that’s when he knows it’s never gonna happen. “I won’t. Never.”
Dean sucks in a breath and his hand tightens on Sam’s. “Okay, Sam,” He breathes. “Okay.”
-
The day comes sooner than any of them had anticipated.
It’s been one long, grueling, year and a half of trying and failing to stop the breaking seals, of practicing with the others. They’d managed to save multiple demon hosts thus far, and Sam is hopeful that it’ll be enough to take down Lilith without any collateral damage. And, if they can’t, it’ll be enough to hold her in place long enough for Dean to shoot her with the Colt.
Dean has agreed, reluctantly, with his plan. He’s been...different since Samhain, but Sam can tell that he’s not happy with their continued use of Ruby, and Castiel certainly isn’t either. But they’ve come to an understanding, and without the element of the blood, Dean seems to be accepting that that’s the compromise that has to made.
But it’s still shocking when, completely out of the blue, a sharp knocking emerges from their motel room door. Sam, feeling the ever present chill in his spine, knows who it is before he checks the door. He nods at Dean, who’s pulled his gun out, and opens to door to let a frazzled Ruby rush inside.
“It’s over!” She spits out. “It’s the final seal! Lilith’s about to break it, and if we don’t go now then we won’t be able to get there in time.”
Sam’s frozen in place, unmoving. Dean does a double take “What?”
“Lilith!” She snaps. “In Maryland. We have to go now. Or we won’t get there on time!”
There’s another pause, and then they both simultaneously fly into action, grabbing their bags and weapons and packing with a practiced rushed efficiency. “I’m gonna call the others,” Sam says, stuffing in toiletries and the medical supplies into his duffel. “We’re all about the same distance away, we could all get there at the same time if...”
“There’s no time,” Ruby says. “You might have to do this alone, Sam. I’d be willing to lend my blood if you need a—”
“No,” Sam says shortly. “They’ll get there on time, they will.”
He dials as they rush out to the car, hoping that he’ll get through to them on time.
-
They drive through the night, taking turns at the wheel, Ruby silent and somber in the back. Dean clearly isn’t happy about it, but he lets it slide for now.
Sam’s keeping in contact with the rest, and they should hopefully arrive within an hour of them, so Sam’s counting that as close enough. Ruby’s lips had pursed at that, but she hadn’t commented further.
They park outside a church and stumble out the car, shaking off pins and needles and making a beeline for the weapons in the trunk. Dean takes the Colt, sticks it in his jeans and pats it to make sure it’s there.
Sam pulls out his phone, texts Jake we’re here, and flips it shut. He sits back on the car and looks at Dean, inclines his head, and Dean leans back and joins him.
“We don’t have time—” Ruby starts, but Dean shoots her a glare.
“We have a plan,” He says. “And we’re gonna follow it. If I hear you mention blood again, you’re getting a bullet from the Colt.”
Ruby’s mouth clicks shut, but she her state remains mutinous.
Sam’s phone buzzes. Twenty minutes.
“Wow,” He says, showing Dean. “They must’ve really hauled ass.”
“Well,” Dean says. “You asked them to,” and the tone of it is off, and Sam wants to ask about it but it’s just not the time right now, so he just nods and leans back on the car again.
There’s a beat more of silence, then Dean shifts. “Are you sure about this?” He asks Sam with utter seriousness. “About trusting her? About trusting them? Because I have to tell you, Sam. There’s something off about this.”
Sam nods. “I know,” he says. “But what else can we do? It’s a risk we have to take.” He glances sideways at Ruby, not wanting her near this conversation. “Can you go ahead to the road so you can wave the others in when they arrive?”
Ruby wavers, stares at the two, then turns and walks off into the night.
Sam looks back at his brother. “I know this is asking a lot,” He says. “I know we’re taking a big risk. Hell, with our souls if not with the apocalypse itself. But, Dean. This is it, man. This is us taking back control of the powers that everyone is so convinced are making us bad. This is the only way we win.”
“We?” Dean asks.
“Yes,” Sam says. “And these guys, you know, they’ve become like family, and—”
“They’re not family!” Dean snaps, and it’s more explosive than Sam ever expected. “They’re allies! They’re people who’re connected to us by circumstance! You and me, we’re blood! It’s us against the world! So when I tell you something’s off, you listen! And I’m telling you, something’s off!”
Sam bows his head, stays silent. He does this every time, he gets so invested in the goal that he forgets what’s going wrong along the way until it’s too late. But here they are now, and Dean’s furious and unheard and Sam makes an executive decision.
“It is,” He says, feeling Dean’s gaze on him. “Us against the world. It is. But these guys, Dean...they’re friends. They dropped everything in their lives to help us. And we’re all a team now. But you’re part of the team too, and if you’re not convinced...I’ll try to convince you.”
He looks back up at Dean, sees him shake his head. “Sam—”
“Listen,” Sam says. “Call Castiel over right now. If anything else, you’ll be getting confirmation on if this is actually happening, and you’ll be warning him if he doesn’t know. And you can ask him if this is the right thing to do. If he says no, and you trust his word, we turn back and follow his lead. Okay?”
Dean stares at him, nods, then closes his eyes. “Castiel,” He says. “We need your help.”
-
A flutter of wings sound, and Castiel appears at the church door.
“We don’t have much time,” Dean says, looking at him head-on. “But we need to know if Lilith is in there, and I need some honesty from you: do we go in and take her down? Sam and the others, no demon blood, just them? Say the word now and we call it off. So: what do we do, Cas?”
Castiel looks over his shoulder to the church, and back to them. He nods. “Lilith is inside,” He says. Sam hears a car approaching from the abandoned road, hears Ruby shout, can’t make out the words.
“And?” Dean says. “What do we do?”
Castiel stands there, glancing between them. His mouth opens, then shuts, and Sam sees the sides of his mouth pinch. If he didn’t know any better, he would say that the angel looks...conflicted.
The sound of approaching footsteps seems to snap him out of his reverie. He looks dead on at Dean, then Sam, and clears his throat.
“Go after her,” He says, then vanishes just as the incoming group round the corner and into sight.
-
Sam looks at his brother, nods, then turns to meet the group, freezing in place as he notices who’s among them. “Ava?”
She smiles at him, and he’s taken aback. “I wanted to help with this,” She says, and she sounds so much stronger. “I want to do it.”
Sam smiles back. “Thank you.”
They all huddle together, Sam giving them all one last look. “Just like we practiced,” He says. “And Dean’s here in case we can’t finish the job. You can do this. I believe in you. Are you ready?”
He waits until they all nod, then throws his shoulders back. He glances at Ruby to his left, Dean to his right, and then steps forward to open the doors.
-
It’s much easier than they expected.
They all burst into the church. Dean and Ruby begin to take on the demon minions, while the rest of them zero in on Lilith. She’s sitting right in the center of the church, wearing a long white dress and a serene smile.
“Now!” Sam yells, and they all throw their minds, brushing consciousnesses, and grab hold of Lilith quicker than they’ve ever done with anything before.
She twitches, eye going wide.
“We got her!” Sam yells, over the pounding in his head. “Now...go!”
He can feel her power, and it unlike anything he’s ever felt before. He can sense the others are struggling but so is she, and he pushes in response, dangerously close to the point where Dean had looked at him and croaked out that his brain was fried.
But then he senses Dean approaching him (he’s okay) and pushes harder, feeling blood begin to roll down his lip, ready to give the signal to Dean to step in, to end it, and then...
And then Lilith throws her head back, light streaming from her eyes, and collapses onto the floor, going still.
Jake laughs, stumbling back. “Is that it?” He asks, disbelieving. “Did we win?”
“Oh yes,” Ruby says, voice taking on an unidentifiable quality. “Yes. We won.”
Sam’s about to turn to her, when the church floor catches his eye. Light emerges, creating symbols that are unfamiliar to him, and the ground begins to shake. The laughter and smiles are wiped from their faces and as one, they all turn to him.
“Sam?” Andy says. “What’s happening?”
Sam’s lets out a hitched breath, but it’s Ruby who answers. “The end,” She says, stepping to be level with him. “It’s over. Lucifer is coming, and we’ll all be justly rewarded for it, I promise.”
Sam gasps. It feels like the air’s gone from his lungs.
Ruby moves so she’s in front of him. “You did it,” She says, reaching out to touch his face. “I knew you would. I always believed in you. I promise Sam, It’ll be-”
Her head shoots violently sideways as a gunshot interrupts her and she drops. Sam startles, looking to the side to see Dean lowering the Colt, face paler than he’s ever seen it.
“Sam,” Dean says, but he seems to be robbed of words, so he just reaches and clings to Sam’s shirt sleeve for dear life, and they all watch together as the light glows brighter and brighter. Ao3 Link

Opening Sequence
Episode 2: The One with the Anniversary
Words: 1951
Summary: the family celebrates Sirius and Remus’ anniversary.
Narcissa, Bellatrix and Lucius stood on Grimmauld Place, waiting for the building to stretch and reveal number 12. Sirius and Remus had moved in after Walburga Black’s death and redecorated the house, weeding it of horrible memories.
“Do we really have to do this?” groaned Lucius, “it’s still a good time to bail.”
“Coward,” muttered Bellatrix, who eyed the street uninterested.
“It’s their anniversary. And they were kind enough to invite us, so can you please drop it and enjoy the evening?”
A few minutes later, Regulus Black stood on the other side of the door and welcomed them inside.
“You’re early,” Bellatrix pointed out.
Regulus scoffed. “I live here.”
(REGULUS BLACK) TALKING HEAD
(Regulus sits, legs crossed, on a wooden chair with a red cushion. The walls are covered with some very intricate tapestry, as well as painting, moving and still. The room is heavily decorated with items. The thick rug, in a pattern of red and gold, matches the chairs and the curtains. Behind him, there’s a piano and a bookcase. Musical scores sit everywhere, as well as open books and notebooks and a couple of empty teacups. Regulus is wearing a three piece suit and looks pretty much at ease.)
“I moved in one day,” he says gingerly, “at first it was just for a week, but then I never left. Why would I? I was our parents’ favourite son. It’s Sirius who should be paying rent.”
[Back to scene]
“Salazar, this is tacky. Are you poor? Auntie Walburga must be rolling in her grave,” said Bellatrix as they made their way to the living room.
“Bella! Those are the kind of things you think and not say. Sometimes it’s impossible to live with you,” chastised Narcissa.
“Well, imagine how it is to live with Elio and Oliver,” said Regulus offhandedly.
“Who are Elio and Oliver?” Asked Lucius.
Regulus stopped on his tracks, utterly mortified as he realized what he had just said.
“Reggie, is that a muggle reference?” Narcissa asked, eyeing him humorously. He looked away.
“Poor baby, what have they done to you,” commented Bella as she shook her head in disapproval.
The whole family was waiting for them. Andromeda stood up to greet her sisters, as their relationship had gotten a little better with months of almost weekly meetings.
“Happy anniversary,” Lucius said to Remus as he took a seat by Ted’s side. As Andromeda, Bellatrix and Narcissa rekindled their relationship, Lucius found himself constantly talking to Ted, Sirius and Remus. Out of the three, he liked Ted better because he was the most discreet. He could also really identify with Remus, as they quickly came to the conclusion that being married to Sirius was very much like being married to Narcissa.
“Yes, anniversary,” murmured Remus, eyeing his husband with an amused expression.
“I’m here, bitches” said James Potter as he burst into the room.
Sirius squealed and soon he was clinging to his best friend like a koala. The family eyed the exchange wearily, already used to Sirius’ fits of dramatics. What they didn’t expect, though, was Narcissa’s outburst as Lily Potter crossed the threshold. The blonde gasped and stood up from her place, her whole face distorted by surprise and histronism. Soon, both women almost tackled each other.
When Narrcissa and Lily started getting handsy, the room went wild.
“What is this?” Asked Lucius, his face drained of colour.
“Seriously, what’s going on?” said Nymphadora from the other side of the room.
“They’re...they’re kissing very close to the lips?” said Lucius unsurely.
“Are you blind? Your wife is snogging mine!” answered James, Sirius still hanging from his neck.
(NARCISSA MALFOY) TALKING HEAD
“Lily Jean and I had a histoire d’amour back in our Hogwarts days,” she says with a nostalgic smile, “we were young and crazy. We sneaked into each other’s dorms, made out in every hallway. We even had a bucket list of forbidden places to have sex in. Merlin, I miss those days. When did I get so...domestic?”
[Back to scene]
A few minutes later, Narcissa and Lily share one very small armchair.
“You know those are made for one?” Regulus said.
“Reggie,” said Lily, trying to sound motherly.
“You can’t ‘Reggie’ me after you snogged my cousin, Lillian.”
Lily laughed it off and snuggled into her ex-girlfriend. For a while, everyone tried to keep the conversation going. Ted made sure Lucius had his fix of firewhiskey so he wouldn’t have a fit. Sirius and Remus humoured James. Andromeda tried her best to keep Bellatrix at bay.
After the first half an hour of relative peace, everyone noticed how Narcissa kissed Lily’s neck and caused her to giggle. People - namely their husbands - turned uncomfortable. Sirius then set his foot down.
“You two ruined my soirée!”
“Sweetheart,” said Remus as he came closer to his husband, “right now it seems like Bellatrix might not be the only divorcée in the family. The celebration is the least of our worries.”
(BELLATRIX LESTRANGE) TALKING HEAD
(Bellatrix smokes a cigar)
“Divorcée life is treating me wonderfully. I’d prescribe this to Cissy any day.”
[Back to scene]
Sirius looked at his husband like an annoyed child. He even pouted a little before complaining again: “It’s not fair. Today marks 17 years since I realized I had the hots for you!”
“Wait, aren’t we celebrating your fifth anniversary?” asked Regulus.
“Do you really believe we’d serve this lowly chardonnay if we were celebrating five years of marriage?” asked Sirius in disbelief.
“What’s wrong with the chardonnay?” murmured Nymphadora to herself after downing her fourth glass, much to her mother’s chagrin.
(SIRIUS BLACK - LUPIN & REMUS BLACK - LUPIN)
(Sirius and Remus seat in two champagne coloured poufs. Behind them, there’s a royal bed with many pillows and a spread in the same colour scheme. The room is big and airy, with big windows on one side, overlooking the street. The couple have their hands intertwined.)
“We’ve been married for five years, but we’ve been together for sixteen,” said Remus, smiling dreamily at his husband.
Sirius lets go of Remus’ hand and hugs him. “I’m lucky I fell in love with my best friend.”
“I’m not your best friend,” said Remus matter-of-factly.
“What? Of course you are! Who else would my b-”
“James.”
“He won’t see this,” said Sirius nonchalantly.
Remus gave him a knowing look. Sirius proceeded to sit up straight and look straight at the camera. “I love you Prongs.”
Remus rolls his eyes.
[Back to scene]
“So, you are telling me we came here, brought gifts and are trying our very best not to kill each other,” said Lucius as he eyed his wife and Lily, who were blissfully oblivious of the scene, “to celebrate you realizing you wanted to get in Lupin’s pants?”
“It was one autumn day when I saw Moony’s face and said to myself, this is the man I want in my bed right now,” said Sirius dreamily, making his husband blush.
“Who does that?” asked Regulus, rolling his eyes at his brother.
“Someone who enjoys life?” answered Sirius.
“I can’t believe you all went to the wedding - “
“I wasn’t invited,” Bellatrix interrupted
“I can’t believe most of you went to the wedding and don’t even remember the date,” huffed Sirius.
“Bitch, please last year I forgot my son’s birthday. Right, Lily?” asked James, only to be greeted by silence.
As everyone looked around the room, they realized Narcissa and Lily had ditched the party. Lucius looked like he was about to combust and James was on the verge of tears. Andromeda called her cousins and cousin-in-law to an emergency meeting on the hallway.
“Listen here,” she said, trying not to give too much attention to the giggles and moans coming from a broom closet, “if Cissy divorces Lucius, both she and Bella will need a place to live. So either we fix this mess or we share custody of my sisters. Got it?”
Sirius shuddered.  “Cissa’s ego takes too much space.”
“Exactly,” said Andromeda.
“Alright everybody,” decided Regulus “we’re going to therapy.”
“What did you do to him?” Bellatrix demanded Sirius and Remus.
Regulus scoffed. “I’m perfect. I don’t need therapy.”
“Doubt that,” murmured James. Ted snorted in response.
“It’s for your sister,” said Regulus, trying not to feel offended by James. His statement coincided with Narcissa and Lily coming to the room, disheveled, unkempt and hand in hand.
“I didn’t know Andy and Ted needed therapy,” Narcissa said.
“We have the most perfect marriage, right Ted?” Said Andromeda. Ted nodded stiffly.
“If you need any help, breath once and we’ll take you out of it,” whispered Lucius to his brother-in-law.
(ANDROMEDA TONKS) TALKING HEAD
“Ted’s mother inspired me to enroll in a muggle university. It was hard, being pregnant with Nymphadora and all, but I got a degree in psychology and then a masters  in family therapy. I’m loaded now, all thanks to the wizarding community’s crumbling interpersonal relationships.”
She shifts uncomfortably. “It would be unethical to try psychotherapy on my own family. So we resort on...roasting each other and calling it a day.”
[Back to scene]
Andromeda sat on a chair in the middle of the room. Lucius and James sat side by side on a sofa as Narcissa and Lily shared the same armchair as before. The rest of the family stood behind Andromeda, watching the back and forth between the spouses. Andromeda tried her best, asking questions for them to open up, but they proved to be the hardest people ever.
“Andromeda, I’ve got a minor in psychology, none of your tricks will work on me,” said Lily.
“Fix this, Malfoy,” said James to Lucius.
“So, James,” asked Andy, “how does it make you feel, to see your wife in another woman’s arms?”
“Are you really a shrink? Because I could do better,” said Bellatrix.
James gave his wife a look. She was snuggling Narcissa. “C-confused?” he said almost in disbelief, “distraught? And frankly a bit turned on.”
“I really don’t understand straight people,” Remus sighed.
“Me neither,” said Nymphadora. Her eyes widened when she realized the room had gone eerily quiet and everyone was eyeing her.
(NYMPHADORA TONKS) TALKING HEAD
(Nymphadora sits on her bed, cross-legged. Her room is painted black, the walls covered with frayed band posters and political messages. She has some drawings around, a stringless guitar long forgotten in a corner and a desk full of papers and some pictures.)
“Did I just come out to my family with two careless words? Perhaps. Did I pretend it was a joke? Definitely”.
[Back to scene]
“Listen,” said Narcissa, “we are not wrecking anyone’s marriage. We are happy with our spouses and overjoyed with our children who won’t stop babbling about each other. We decided to be best friends.”
“Best friends?” asked James unsurely.
“Best friends,” agreed Lily as she kissed Narcissa’s cheek.
Lucius and James exchanged worried glances.
“Pads, Moony, we’re sorry we ruined your night,” said Lily, “we were just excited to see each other after so many years.”
“Bitch, I didn’t ruin anyone’s night. If anything I gave them a show...and a sense of purpose,” she said, eyeing Andromeda, “and just for the record, if I was to divorce Lucius, I’d keep the house, Draco and the peacocks.”
Lucius gulped.
(NARCISSA MALFOY) TALKING HEAD
“It’s good to rekindle old friendships. You discover pieces of yourself you left with them and realize how much you’ve grown…” she smirks mischievously, “bonus points if you find out you never really broke up with your Hogwarts sweetheart and so you’re technically still a couple.”
“I invented side pieces,” she adds, seemingly very pleased with herself.
Roll credits.

3-10?
3. Thoughts on Dan Pierce and your MC’s relationship with him:
Dan should have appeared more in the story and it sucks that a lot of his character development/depth is hidden behind a paywall. Besides that, he is still a good character and is really nice. Love the scene he had in ILB with the ILB MC.
After what happened to Jane, they didn’t really talk to eacother at all. Like except for a few greetings and nods when passing eachother in the hallways. Feel like he and Claudia become good friends after ILITW. He is one of the people Claudia feels the most comfortable talking about what is bothering her and such. They are just good friends, no romantic undertones at all.
4. Thoughts on Noah Marshall and your MC’s relationship with him
Noah deserved better, man. He is one of the best-written character's choices has ever written IMO. His betrayal hurts a lot, but like as an older sister myself, I get it.....
After what happened to Jane he and Claudia just had a mutual avoidance of each other. Like just did not try to talk to each other at all in 10 years. When they start reconnecting they start becoming close again and maybe they can be friends again maybe?......but then Noah fucks up everything so yeah.
She also lowkey have a crush on him, but don’t tell anyone
5. Thoughts on Andy Kang and your MC’s relationship with him:
Andy...I LOVE YOU. He is a fantastic character and just lkjasjlajd love him. Love that he doesn’t take BS from anyone and is ready to fight. But he is also so sweet to his friends and his loyalty to his friends is my favorite aspect of his character
Obviously him and Claudia are friends. Claudia feels bad that she didn’t visit Andy more when he was in the hospital after ILITW, because she was dealing with her own bagage. He fully understands that and does not hold that against her. She tries to make up for it to go to as many of his game’s as she possible can.
6. Thoughts on Ava Cunningham and your MC’s relationship with her
She was the first character I fell in love with. I was like “Oh a character with almost the same name as me (My name is Eva FYI) and she is a goth queen....sign me the fuck up!!!”. Love her sense of humor and her dialogue are goals. Also, her smile is one of the best smiles in choices, change my mind.
She and Claudia have a similar sense of aesthetic and interests so obviously, they get along. Feel like they do makeup and hair dye together and talk about their interest. A related story I was talking to a female friend and a guy friend came up to us because he had to tell us something. After he was done with whatever he was saying, I was like “Okay but back to what we were (me and the female friend) talking about”. The guy friend left and was like “Yeah continue talking about whatever lady stuff you were talking about”..... we were talking about murder/serial killers, feel like that is Claudia and Ava in a nutshell.
7. Thoughts on Lucas Thomas and your MC’s relationship with him:
Lucas's struggle with perfection and expectations was really compelling. Also, the character that stressed me out the most during ILITW, like I thought he was gonna die the most. Have never been able to pass the first nerve check with him in ILITW, is that even possible??? Also let me fight his parents PB.
Out of the group feel like him and Claudia is the least close. not because they like hate eachother, but they just have personalites that clash and not that many interests in common. But she is supportive to him and feel like when he finally confronted his parents after ILITW and told them about the drug thing she was there with him as support.
8. Thoughts on Stacy Green and your MC’s relationship with her:
Stacy is one bad bitch and we respect her in this house. She was definitely a character who grew on me after a while like I didn’t hate her at the start, just realized after everything that I did not respect her enough while playing the first time. Also when she dies she is the only character that doesn’t beg for mercy and she goes out like a motherfucker yelling at Jane and Noah saying basically “Fuck you” to both of them and we stan.
Feel like Claudia goes to a similar arc as me, that she didn’t appreciate her as much as she should have at the start. Also, they are an unlikely duo who just kicks ass together.
9. Thoughts on Lily Ortiz and your MC’s relationship with her:
Lily is a sweetheart and the most underrated character in ILITW. I like that she was kinda girly but also loved gaming at the same time. Why don’t more people talk about the fact that she is a gamer?? Hello?? Love her arc of standing up to herself and her standing up to Jane at the end of ILITW was one of the most badass moments in ILITW
I feel like Lily is the only character of the group that Claudia actually kept in contact with. Not necessarily best friend status, but will catch up when given the chance. Also, Claudia would always stand up to Lily when she saw people bothering her
10. Thoughts on Connor Green and your MC’s relationship with him:
I don’t have that many strong opinions about Connor like I don’t hate him, but I don’t love him either. I mostly just forget about him if I am being honest, maybe it’s because I have never spend diamonds on him so I don’t know him that well But he is kinda over-hated by the fandom I can admit.
Feel like Claudia was low key annoyed that he tried to get involved in all the supernatural stuff. “Dude you are cool and all that stuff, but this does not concern you at all”. But they were gonna make this super cool monster-fighting club together....hope we see where that goes in the future :)
This took over an hour to write oh boi need to lay down for a while. but thanks for sending the ask ^^

the posh type [drake walker x mc]
Tumblr media
Just a one shot, part fluff, part sex. I’m not the best at writing sex scenes but I hope you still enjoy! No reason for writing this except I was inspired by the above gif. I like it.
@jovialyouthmusic @pug-bitch @moonlightgem7 @sirbeepsalot @fromthedeskofpaisleybleakmore @notoriouscs @iplaydrake @carabeth @drakewalkerisreal
***************************************************************************************
It was their first wedding anniversary. Drake had booked the restaurant four months in advance and he had planned the evening down to every last detail. He had made sure Hana was around to babysit baby Lily and he had even bought a new suit for the occasion.
Drake could hear Camille singing as she applied her makeup and he smiled to himself. He couldn’t believe he actually had a first anniversary. He never saw himself reaching that sort of milestone in his life; he had always pushed people away, kept up the walls, refused to let anyone in.  How things had changed.
Camille sprayed her Chanel perfume onto the insides of her wrists and examined her reflection in the mirror. She wanted to look good for Drake.
She found him on their balcony waiting for her. He turned when he heard her heels against the ground and his eyes travelled down her body and then back to her face, a dopey grin on his face. ‘You look incredible,’ he told her. She did; she was wearing a black bodycon dress which highlighted her body and black stilettos. Her eye makeup was smokey and her hair was tousled in waves. ‘You’re wearing a new suit,’ she said, raising an eyebrow. Drake blushed. ‘For you.’
Camille stepped forward and kissed him softly. ‘You look as handsome as always.’
Drake took her hand and the couple left the balcony to say goodbye to Hana. ‘If Lily wakes up, play her Moon River by Andy Williams, that’s her jam,’ Camille said. ‘It always gets her back to sleep.’
‘Noted. Have an amazing time guys!’  Hana squealed, clapping her hands. Drake chuckled and guided Camille out to the waiting taxi outside.
*******************************************************************************************
They hadn’t had a proper date night since Lily was born. Drake pulled out Camille’s chair for her, ever the gentleman, and settled down opposite her. The restaurant was busy but it had a romantic atmosphere. A pianist was playing the corner and French doors opened out onto a terrace which was lit up by candles. Drake asked for the best Sauvignon Blanc and he poured Camille a large glass. They clinked their glasses together.
‘To many more anniversaries like this one,’ Camille toasted. Drake gave her a wink. ‘Nah, this will be the only one you get. Next year, it’s just a card.’
Camille let out a laugh and shook her head. ‘I love you, Walker.’
The two of them shared a smile and studied the menu. Drake held her hand across the table as he made his choices. When his eyes met hers, Camille blushed and Drake chuckled. This was exactly how he wanted the night to be; just them, laughing and acting like they were on a first date again.
*******************************************************************************************
‘Are you kidding? Of course Maxwell would be the first to die in a horror film!’ Drake said. ‘The guy’s too trusting, he would probably welcome the killer into the house!’
‘True, but Bertrand would hide in the closet, probably to protect his sweater vests and kimonos. Everyone knows not to hide in the closet,’ Camille argued.
‘Maxwell would be the one who actually runs up the stairs,’ Drake continued his argument. ‘That’s the first sign that you’re gonna die.’
‘Well, Bertrand would think he’s safe and then come out. He would go into the bathroom to calm down, open up the mirror cabinet for some calming pills, shut it and BAM! The killer’s behind him!’
‘Alright.. who would be the killer then?’ Drake asked, a glint in his eye. Camille frowned, thinking. ‘....Definitely Liam.’
Drake burst out laughing. ‘What?! Liam’s the nicest guy in the world!’
‘Exactly!’ Camille cried, pointing at Drake. ‘Nobody suspects the nice guy! Come on, he would need to let loose from being all kingly, a little bit of murdering might be his sort of self care..’
Drake snorted and took a sip of wine. ‘A little bit of murdering.. Camille, it would obviously be Olivia.’
‘You would think that! She would be the main suspect until she’s found dead in the second half!’
Drake sat back in his chair, studying his wife. ‘You have really thought about this...’
Camille shrugged. ‘When I’m feeding Lily at 3am, my mind wanders.’
‘Good God, I’ve married a weirdo.’
Camille stuck her tongue out at him and drank some more wine. ‘This is really fun, Drake. I love this.. just being us. Drake and Camille.’
Drake smiled bashfully. ‘Aw shucks..’
Camille grinned and placed her napkin down on the table. ‘I’m going to the bathroom,’ she told him. ‘Feel free to come join me.’
‘What?’
She leaned down to whisper in his ear. ‘You heard me.’
Drake looked around the restaurant. This was a posh place. It wasn’t the kind of restaurant where you go and bang your date mid-dinner. Fucks sake, there was a piano in the corner. Then again, posh restaurants weren’t actually Drake and Camille’s thing. Sure, he had booked this place for their anniversary but that was because he wanted to really push the boat out. He had also heard their steaks were the best in Cordonia, which had swayed him.
He watched as Camille gave him a wink and walked towards the bathroom, her hips swinging seductively. Drake’s eyes fixed on her ass as she walked away and he felt his trousers tighten.
Fuck it, we’re not the posh type.
He pushed his chair out and followed her.
*******************************************************************************************
It was only the one ladies’ bathroom, it had a lock, nobody was going to walk in. Drake had checked.  He had her perched on top of the sink in an instant.
His hands ran up her thighs, pushing up her black dress as he kissed her fiercely. Camille groaned as she wrapped her arms around his neck. Her heels had slipped off when Drake picked her up but she didn’t care; she just wanted her husband right. now.
Drake’s teeth tugged on her bottom lip and she rolled her head back against the wall as she focused on his touch. His fingers had pulled aside her thong and he had began to work her, gently at first, but picking up pace the more she moaned. Her hands reached for his belt and she unbuckled it swiftly, impatient. Drake felt himself grow even harder, knowing that she wanted him.
‘Fuck me, Drake,’ she murmured against his mouth. Her tongue flicked against his and Drake could taste her watermelon lip balm.
‘I’m planning to,’ he whispered and he felt her hand wrap along his length, guiding it to her centre. ‘I want it now,’ she said.
Drake teased her entrance, watching as she bit her lip, her brown eyes growing darker. She was already so wet for him. Drake loved it. He teased her with the tip of his length some more, smirking as her breath hitched. ‘Damn it, Walker, you sure know how to get a girl all hot and bothered,’ she ground out.
Drake’s eyes penetrated hers. ‘Somebody’s impatient, huh?’
‘Just fancy being fucked on a sink, that’s all.’
Drake laughed and kissed her deeply; as he did so, he finally entered her. Camille let out a gasp and she wrapped her legs around him, pulling his body further into hers. ‘You are so fucking big, Drake,’ she breathed and Drake smirked. He placed his hands under her and lifted her slightly, tilting her up into an angle, so he could see himself driving into her. His eyes flicked up to hers and he caught the mischievous look on her face. She was loving this.
They didn’t often do sex in public places; it wasn’t their style. Drake liked to be romantic with it while Camille liked having all the time in the world in their own space as they fucked.
This was different and Drake was really, really into it.
She kissed his neck as he bucked his hips against hers, her fingernails gripping onto his shoulders as she cried out. He could smell her perfume and he kissed the insides of her wrists, inhaling the scent. Camille smiled at the intimate gesture; Drake always did things like that when they were together. He always found a way to make it special, meaningful, like he worshipped her. For Camille, Drake had ruined all men for her because no other man could match him. Even better, he was hers.
Drake could feel himself getting close as he fucked her harder. The way she was crying out his name was only adding to it. He had found her sweet spot and focused in on it, causing her body to jerk and shake. ‘Drake, I’m gonna-’ she warned him and Drake let out a haggered breath as he increased his pace. Camille screamed his name and her body shook against him, her legs tightening around his waist. Drake felt the wave too and he rode it, ready to fall into the abyss. Camille dropped her head down onto his shoulder as she let go, panting heavily. Her breath tickled against his neck.
‘Wow. Wow..’ she murmured to herself. Drake gently pulled out and watched her as she gazed up at him. ‘Happy anniversary honey,’ he said, the corner of his mouth tugging up into a lazy grin. Camille leaned her head against the wall, catching her breath.
*******************************************************************************************
Drake watched as Camille went back to their table first. She ran her fingers through her hair as she walked; her hair had been tousled before. Now, it looked like she had been dragged through a hedge backwards.
Drake followed a few moments later, trying to appear nonchalant. He smiled at an old man with a white handlebar moustache who was wearing a top hat.
I should get a top hat.
He could hear whispers. ‘Is that the Duke of Valtoria?’
Drake kept his head down as he reached the table. Camille looked up at him with her kohl rimmed eyes, resting her chin on the palm of her hand. ‘Nice bathroom break?’
‘Lovely toilets. Very personal experience.’
‘Good for you. Now, shall we order dessert to go and eat it in bed?’
Drake chuckled. ‘Best anniversary ever.’

High Alert
Pairing: Narcissa Black x Lily Evans Words: 2,489 You can also read this on AO3. This is a Muggle AU for @lillyevans who requested this pairing and for the @slytherdornet and @hprarepairnet Spring Challenge! I based it off of this prompt, and warning: there is some implied smut in this. If you’re into that sort of thing.
It was Lily's Spring Break, which meant she was going to go on a her annual road-trip with her best friend Andi. This time, they were going to visit potential graduate school's for Lily to finish up her medical degree. Lily was extremely excited, but she needed the support of her best friend; this soon-to-be new school journey was nerve-wracking for her. So as she pulled up to Andi's house, she was confused and pissed to see Narcissa Black standing at the end of Andi's driveway with her rolling suitcase.
Lily rolled down the window as she pulled up and stopped her SUV, "Is there a reason you're here? Where's Andi?"
"Andromeda asked me to give you this," Narcissa explained as she opened the door of her SUV and slipped into the passenger seat, "And could you please turn on the AC? It is boiling in here."
Annoyed, Lily unfolded the wrinkled up piece of paper. She recognized Andi's handwriting instantly.
Lils,
I'm so sorry I'm not able to come with you on our annual road trip this year. I would have called, but I dropped my phone in the toilet as I was arguing with Cissa this morning and she refused to let me use her phone. Ted has appendicitis and really needs me to be with him in the hospital. Don't worry, all is going to be okay. I know Cissa can be a bitch, but she is a good travel companion. I promise. Maybe you'll even become good friends. I'll see you when you get back. I'll make it up to you.
Love,
Andi
Groaning, Lily crumpled up her friend's letter and threw it into her cupholder.
"I don't need you to come with me," Lily told Narcissa, "I can go by myself. I'm just looking at universities anyway, and no offense, but you're the last person I want to come with me as I decide on my future path."
Narcissa snorted as she turned on the AC herself, "I never thought you'd be such an asshole. Aren't you supposed to be a Saint or something?"
Lily smiled sarcastically and replied, "Well, you know what they say: it takes a bitch to know a bitch."
Narcissa rolled her eyes and propped her feet on Lily's dash.
"Could you at least put your feet down?"
Narcissa ignored her, and that's when Lily realized she had no choice. Narcissa was coming with her whether she liked it or not. So she started her SUV and they were on their way.
It took an hour on the freeway before either of them said a word. Lily could no longer handle the silence, and besides, she hated seeing Narcissa touch-up her makeup from the corner of her eye.
"Is it really necessary to look runway perfect?" Lily asked her, "We are going to be in the car for like three days straight. Who is going to see you?"
"You're so naive," Narcissa drawled, "We'll have stops."
"At gas stations," Lily muttered.
Narcissa ignored her as she applied the last of her lipstick and shut her compact mirror.
"When you're as gorgeous as me," Narcissa told her, "You have to keep it up for reputation sake. You never know who you'll run into on the road."
"I thought it was supposed to be effortless to be as gorgeous as you?"
Narcissa rolled her eyes again. Lily knew it was her favorite facial expression. She had seen her roll her eyes at her for years.
"You don't know anything, Evans."
"Oh?" Lily prodded, "Enlighten me, Narcissa. I'd love to hear what you have to say."
But instead of snarking back at Lily, Narcissa leaned forward to turn up the stereo. Lily took that as the cue she was done talking for at least another hour.
When they made it to the first motel, Lily insisted she would pay for Narcissa to have her own room, but Narcissa insisted they share a room so she knew she wouldn't be murdered in the night. This was the moment she was reminded that Narcissa was nothing like her sister. If where they were staying was not a five star hotel, she would not be pleased, and that meant she would make Lily's whole evening a living hell until she got her way. Luckily enough for Lily, she wasn't the type to give in, and Narcissa would have to suck it up. And besides, Lily liked watching Narcissa suffer from her own ego.
Narcissa slammed the door of their room and groaned as she fell back on the bed closest to the bathroom.
"I cannot believe you legitimately chose a Motel 6. I thought you were joking."
"If we are going to be on the road for a week and have to pay for gas, we are staying at the cheapest hotels possible. Unless you'd rather sleep in my SUV?"
Narcissa huffed, "I suppose this will do then."
Surprised, Lily perked up her brow, "You're giving in this easily? I'm surprised. You have always been the one to put up a fight to make sure you reach your perfect standards."
Narcissa glared at her, "What makes me think you even know me that well? Yeah, you're best friends with my sister. So what?"
"Narcissa, I have known you for years."
"You've known my sister persona, not the real me."
"Well, your sister persona tells me who you really are deep down."
Lily didn't realize she had sat next to Narcissa on her chosen bed until Narcissa sat up so their faces were close together. Lily tried to swallow but failed. For the first time in her life, she actually felt speechless. Narcissa was beautiful, but she always avoided thinking about it. She was Andi's little sister and practically Madame Satan. There was no way she was going to-
It was as though Narcissa could read her mind, because a wicked grin spread across her face as she glanced down at Lily's lips.
"You don't know me deep down, Evans, but you really want to," she whispered.
Lily blinked a few times and watched as Narcissa stood up and took off her shirt. This left Lily staring at her lacy pink bra while trying to look away.
"I'm going to shower," Narcissa told her, "If you want to get to know me, you could always join me."
Lily gasped, and before she could reply, Narcissa smirked at her as she shut the bathroom door.
Lily pretended to be asleep in her own bed when Narcissa came out of the shower, but her senses were on high alert. The worst part about it was, she realized she had wanted to know who Narcissa was deep down for a long time. She just didn't want to admit it to herself.
She didn't talk to Narcissa the next morning as she got up and made her coffee. Narcissa didn't push her either. She just packed up her things and started loading up the car. Lily was surprised she was even helping, but maybe she felt bad about last night. She probably figured it made her uncomfortable, or Narcissa was just a bitch and playing with Lily's very obvious bisexuality. Either way, Narcissa was a bitch, even if she was trying to help. Nothing would change Lily's mind.
After Lily returned their room keys to the front office, she slipped into the driver's seat with Narcissa already waiting for her. She was playing on her phone and blowing a bubble with bubble gum. Lily watched her lips as they puckered to blow the next bubble. Narcissa must of felt her staring, because she turned her head towards her and stopped attempting to blow a bubble. Instead, she slid the gum back in her mouth and smiled.
"Like what you see?" Narcissa teased, "I could always share."
Narcissa leaned across the middle console towards Lily, and Lily instinctively leaned back from her.
"Is my bisexuality a joke to you?" Lily asked her angrily, "I get that I am out to the world now, but you don't need to use that information to mock me and be a bitch."
Lily was surprised to see Narcissa's face turn sincere as she leaned back into her own seat, "Lily, I know I'm a bitch when I want to be, but I would never-"
She avoided Lily's eyes and didn't continue her speech. It was then Lily realized Narcissa had teased her for years for a reason, she was attracted to her, and most likely jealous that she gave her sister all her attention.
"You don't need to say any more," Lily told her quietly, "If-if you think there is something going on with me and Andi, it has never been like that. She is straight and she likes-"
"I know she loves Ted," Narcissa spoke up, "I didn't think that."
Lily nodded to no one in particular as she started her SUV. Narcissa didn't say any more, and Lily backed out of the Motel 6 parking lot wondering where this trip would really lead them.
They reached the first university Lily was interested in the next day. They had hardly spoken. Narcissa was glued to her phone and Lily was too awkward to say anything more.
When they got out of her car to walk around campus, Narcissa flipped her hair over her shoulder and spoke for the first time in hours, "Do you think there are going to be any cute girls here? I could use a hook-up."
As if it was instinctual, Lily rolled her eyes. It was the first time that her recent suspicions about Narcissa's sexuality had been affirmed, but she couldn't help herself.
"I'm sure there are going to be very cute girls here," Lily told her, "But we aren't here for a booty call."
Narcissa bumped Lily's shoulder as they walked side by side playfully, "Oh Evans, you're just jealous I might want to get in someone's pants other than yours."
Lily stopped in her tracks as Narcissa continued walking. She smiled at a girl ahead of them, and Lily could actually feel the jealousy hit her. Narcissa was now playing a game, and Lily was determined to win.
The campus tour went painstakingly slow, especially when Lily could only focus on Narcissa flirting with the girl she was smiling at earlier. To add to Lily's earlier jealous streak, the girl had to be a part of their tour group and was also trying to get into the medical program. The universe had a horrible sense of humor.
Her name was Marlene, and she was as blonde as Narcissa and just as gorgeous. Lily watched as Narcissa flipped her hair and basically eye-fucked the girl. For once, her eyes were truly green with envy. She knew Narcissa was aware as well, because she would glance over at Lily frequently and give her a smirk.
"Miss Evans?" The tour guide's voice spoke up, "Are you still with us?"
It was then she realized they had made it to the end of the tour. Lily knew she retained none of the information that was said throughout it, and the tour guide probably noticed as she stood by a picnic table as everyone else went to get end of tour refreshments. She tried to get herself together and smiled at the tour guide.
"Yes, I'm fine," she lied, "I was just.. thinking."
The tour guide nodded and looked at her like she was crazy as he walked away. She could scratch this university off of her list of possibilities.
Now that she was aware of her surroundings, Lily was again drawn to find Narcissa. She was laughing with Marlene and leaning forward to touch her thigh. They were drinking sodas at the picnic table farthest away from the group. Lily couldn't take it anymore as she walked up and approached them. Impulsively, she grabbed Narcissa's hand and pulled her up from her seat. She could see from the corner of her eye that Marlene was looking up at them with a confused expression, but Narcissa didn't seem surprised at all. This just infuriated Lily more, so she did the only thing she could think to do. She kissed her.
Soon enough, Narcissa reciprocated the kiss and her hand went up her back until it was cupping the back of her neck. Lily moaned softly, and as Narcissa pulled away, she was breathless. Marlene was still sitting at the picnic table awkwardly, so Narcissa told her, "You can go now. I'm done with you."
Pissed, Marlene gasped and was clearly exasperated. She ran away from them and away from the tour group, and it was then Lily thought she had the right idea.
"Let's get out of here," Lily whispered into Narcissa's ear.
Narcissa looked down at her and grinned, "Your wish is my command."
They fumbled with their new room keys as they tried to open the door, but once it was finally open, Lily pulled Narcissa inside and slammed the door shut with her foot. She lifted her shirt over her head to reveal her black bra and Narcissa looked at her breathlessly before she kissed her again.
Lily pushed Narcissa down on the bed and straddled her hips; Narcissa moaned as she kissed her neck.
Breathlessly, Narcissa told her, "I have been waiting for this for years."
Lily smiled against her neck and lifted her head up to look into Narcissa's blue eyes, "Me too," Lily told her, "I just didn't know it. I guess I wasn't digging deep enough. Until now."
With a flirtatious grin, Lily kissed her way down Narcissa's body until she reached the top seam of her panties. She could feel Narcissa shaking beneath her with anticipation.
"Don't stop," Narcissa encouraged her, "Dig deeper."
And that's what Lily did.
The rest of their road trip contained of many stops at Motel 6's and empty college lecture halls. Lily now knew Narcissa better than she ever expected to, and as they drove back home with their hands intertwined, Lily felt she had to ask Narcissa a question.
"Is this why you wouldn't let Andi use your phone to call me after her's fell in the toilet? Was this your plan all along?"
Narcissa smirked, "What if I told you Andromeda was in on the plan?"
Lily was about to respond as they pulled into Narcissa's driveway, but that's when she saw Andromeda waiting for them while fashioning a devilish grin.
She should of known. After-all, Andromeda was Narcissa's sister.
"You are clever," Lily told Narcissa, "I'll give you that. Would it be bad if I said your plan now is a huge turn-on?"
"It actually wasn't a plan. It was a bet, and I won."
And with Andromeda watching so she knew that she lost their bet, Narcissa kissed Lily. It takes a bitch to know a bitch. Lily just liked how Narcissa played this game.

Dancing’s Not A Crime (Unless You Do It Without Me) pt. 9
Tumblr media
Pairings: Bakugou x fem!reader, Todoroki x fem!reader
You flirt and tease with a certain hotheaded classmate of yours without realizing how far it has escalated and someone gets a little jealous.
Warnings: ANGST ANGST ANGST, fluff
A/n: this is the one where Aizawa is a good dad. Sorry I haven’t updated in awhile. I got stuck in a moody spiral and writing the angst was tough. Some could say I could’ve attempted to write the next chapter before I finally finished this one. But I am not a wise Meeps. Thanks for being patient. I am a ghoul.
Part 8.
You held two dolls in your hand. The one who looked more similar to you was the hero of the story in your head. She was the prettiest, the best at everything, and she was going to fight all your other dolls who thought they could shut her down and steal her light.
You crashed the two dolls together, causing the other doll, the villain of your story, to fly through the air and crash into your closet, the jail where you kept your other villain dolls. You smiled. Another triumphant battle. You wanted to share your new story. “Mater*,” you called. No answer. It didn’t always work. You were just getting used to saying the other words for the names of things you had known already. You tried again. Nothing. You huffed. You crept down the hall towards the kitchen where you heard the clanking of a pan and soft humming. She was cooking.
She wore a long lily white dress that twirled around her feet as she spun around to season the food she had on the island. She looked at you and gave you a sweet smile. “I thought I heard a buzzing in my ear.”
“I made a new story,” you said tugging on the fabric of her dress.
“Did you? Oh, I would love to hear it but I’m prepping for dinner right now. Why don’t you set the table, for me?” You let out a whine. “Do you want me to sing for you, pumpkin?” Your little heart was conflicted. Your mother’s voice was the best voice. Her singing was enchanting. But you didn’t like the feeling you got when she did. You didn’t like not being able to control your actions.
Before you could respond, your mother’s ruby red lips parted and a soft melody followed out. You were compelled to take the plates and silverware into your hands and bring them to your dining room table, though you did it slowly and with a scowl, alerting your mother of your reluctance.
The lock to the front door turned and a tall cloaked man towered in, sighing to himself. White teeth shown through a shadowed face when he saw you. You mother stopped her singing and you ran to her hiding behind her dress before the man came in to the kitchen.
“And here I was thinking you’d never return,” your mother joked before pulling the man into a kiss.
“Death himself couldn’t keep me away from you, my love.” The man laughed into your mother’s hair. He leaned down to you and spoke softly. “How have you been, monkey?”
Your grip on the fabric tightened as you hid your head into your mother’s gown. You heard your mother sigh before singing softly to you and you let go of her dress and bowed your head before the man. “She’s been getting stronger, I almost couldn’t stop myself from going to her when she called me,” said your mother, almost warningly.
“That’s great news!” The man beamed, taking his good off. There he is, you thought as you smiled up at the man you now recognized. He was your friend, your adventure buddy, your father.
“Daddy!” You cried running to him. He swept you off your feet and into his arms.
“There’s my little girl!” He smiled, touching his finger to your nose. “Have you been working on your quirk?”
“Nope!” You laughed at him as he rustled your head. “I’ve been fighting bad guys with my dolls!”
“I’m so proud of my brave little string bean! What do you do with those rotten bad guys?”
You furrowed your brow in a mock angry expression. “I damn them to hell!” You yelled with a fist in the air. You mother sighed, continuing her cooking.
“Monkey, those are some serious words right there. Are you sure you don’t want to reconsider them? You have to be careful with that magic mouth of yours.”
“I throw them in jail!” Both of your triumphant fists were thrown in the air and your father took the opportunity to tickle you. You giggled uncontrollably and he put you down back to the floor.
Your mother hummed as she chopped raw vegetables. “You should know,” she began cutting deeply into some carrots, “we have a dog now.”
“A dog...” your father was combing your mother’s long h/c locks. “I don’t remember making that decision as a family.”
“It wasn’t my decision.” As if on cue, a fuzzy little thing shot through your father’s legs and bit into your mother’s dress.
“Oh my god is that-“
“Speckle!” You screamed gleefully at your stuffed animal that was hanging on to your mother with all his might. “Come here!” The dog pranced into your arms and gave your cheek a fluffy kiss.
“He eats gum drops and jelly beans. And he poops out... gum drops and jellybeans. And continues to eat those,” your mother was not amused by the whimsical things she was telling your father.
He crouched down to your level giving your creation a pat on the hand. Speckle returned the affection my nipping your father’s hands. “We’ve made something truly spectacular, haven’t we, Kira?”
~
You shot up in bed, cold and sweaty. You grumbled when you saw the time. 3:18 AM. You feet met the cold of the hardwood floor in your bedroom. How could you go back to sleep after that?
You made your way down the hall towards the kitchen, wanting to fetch a glass of water, but you paused when you saw Aizawa with his hair pulled back, sitting in the couch grading, very awake, grading papers. “Couldn’t sleep?” He asked his eyes never tearing away from the essay he had.
You sat down next to him and hugged a couch pillow to your chest. “I could,” you whispered peering over his shoulder, trying to see the red marks he left on the page.
“I don’t think so,” he pushed another couch pillow into your face. You weren’t allowed to see him be a teacher at home.
You pulled the pillow out of your face. “I had a... dream,” you sighed, bringing a warm hand to your face, “about... them.”
Aizawa put his pen down. Still he didn’t look at you. “Bad or good?”
You still heard the sound of her singing. “Does it matter?” Your voice cracked. You couldn’t help it. Any dream with them in it was a bad one.
“Hey,” he said, placing the graded papers onto the side table. “Hey,” he said again putting a hand on your shaking arms. You shook your head, tears were now streaming from your face.
“It’s like I could smell- I knew they were bad but they still- he still-“ you were blubbering.
Aizawa was now holding you, cradling you as you sobbed into his neck. He pet your hair shushing you.
“He loved me, Aizawa. Why wasn’t that enough? Why wasn’t I enough?”
Aizawa kissed at your hair. “You are enough. You will always be enough. They were sick, Y/n. You know that. Everyone has their... motives for being who they are bu they were militant in their ways. Nothing could have stopped them. That’s not on you.” He has you hugged tightly to him.
You wiped your tears and snot on him. An occurrence he was used to. You looked up into his kind, sleepy eyes. “What if I end up exactly like them?”
“Then I’ll have to take you in,” he said as a crazy smile spread across his cheeks. You hit him. He chuckled. “you’re not going to be like them if you don’t wish to be like them. Hell, I’m nothing like your grandparents.” You smiled at his mention of ‘grandparents.’ You didn’t often question whether Aizawa was really your family but you were in a fragile state. “And you wouldn’t be enrolled in a hero academy if you didn’t want to be hero.”
That was true. Aizawa made sure that you were sure about wanting to pursue this path. Still you were nervous. “What if I can’t help it? What if I use my quirk, the dark side of it, too much one day and I snap?”
“You have to practice self control. But you can’t keep that part of you under wraps. You have to learn to control it before it controls you. But I’m never going to let anything bad like that happen to you, understand?” You gulped. “Let me bring you a glass of water and- don’t look at those papers.”
“Can I at least check to see if you’re being nice to me?” You called as he shuffled around in the kitchen.
“No.”
You shifted your weight. You figured this was a good a time as ever to let them know about your sorry news.
When he placed a cold glass of ice water in your hand you took a deep breath and told him “I have a date. This Friday. With Bakugou.”
His silence killed you. He pulled out his phone and sent a text. To who? You didn’t know. His sipped his own water. You knew he heard you. He liked to make you sweat when it came to things like this. Finally he asked, “is he coming here?”
Gah. “Well, we’re going to his place,” Aizawa frowned, “but I told him that he needs to pick me up and- ... meet my dad.”
He sipped his water some more. “Good,” he said and scrolled through a shopping website. “And you and Todoroki...?”
Gah! You groaned. “Can we not open this can of worms?”
“That’s fine by me. Mic owes me about a thousand yen.” You groaned again. Leaning over his shoulder you saw that we was shopping for a fly swatter.
