It is a little difficult since twitter is not an art-sharing platform by any means, so here are some ways I built up my following a bit:

• do art shares! they’re a good way to get noticed when you’re first starting out and for people to see your best pieces directly. the earlier you reply, the better—more people are likely to see your work if it’s posted high up in the comments. i stopped doing them after i passed 1k, but only because a good chunk of my followers are high profile and typically aren’t the kind of people to participate in them.
• use 1-2 hashtags at most, and make them count. i know it seems counterproductive, but people are more likely to rt a tweet with less hashtags/words in general.
• when you notice a trending hashtag, try to participate in it as soon as possible. #visiblewomen, #drawingwhileblack, #transcrafted, #artvsartist, and #facingyourart are some examples! if a fandom you like is trending too then it doesn’t hurt to drop some fanart while it does!
• share process stuff! i think people really like it and it helps to keep your engagement up without having to keep everything polished all the time (like on insta). all of your polished work should be showcased somewhere else, like on a portfolio site or insta account, and it’s crucial to have a link to that showcase somewhere easy to find on your account.

that’s about it! you should also make an effort to learn twitter etiquette as well, a quick google search should give you some pointers. if anyone has any more suggestions feel free to add on!
