Every time I open the door to trick or treaters I think of James Potter doing the same but 42 years ago.

I think of James opening the door with a wide smile and deer antlers to what Lily and him thought were the last of the neighborhood kids but instead he is met with Peter Pettigrew.

Peter Pettigrew who is a long life time friend. Peter Pettigrew who has the Dark Lord standing behind him. Peter Pettigrew who is a traitor. And at first James is excited to see Peter; he thought that Peter had decided to join them and ditch whatever plans he had prior.

But instead, with fear in James’ eyes, he tells Lily to take Harry and run. And so she does. And James Potter dies infront of Peter Pettigrew thinking he protected and saved his wife and child. But he didn’t. Because only minutes later, was Lily Evans Potter telling her son, Harry, that she and James love him dearly as she hold him tightly. Only minutes later, was Lily Evans’ dead on the floor.

And only hours later, was Sirius Black walking into the once sweet looking cottage in Godrics Hallow to see his brother and sister-in law dead. Only hours later, was Sirius Black framed for the murder of the Potters and sent to Azkaban. And only hours later, was Remus Lupin getting a very sad phone call from Mary McDonald.
